- 0:09Speaker 1: Hello, everyone, welcome to Inside the Birds. It's Adam Kaplan
- 0:13Speaker 1: and we got some breaking news and we're gonna, We're gonna,
- 0:16Speaker 1: We're gonna take this from every side, from the packer's side.
- 0:18Speaker 1: We've talked to some coaches around the league, some personnel
- 0:22Speaker 1: people have studied Dantavian Wicks's tape, So we've got a
- 0:24Speaker 1: lot for you. We'll explain the Packers side as we
- 0:27Speaker 1: understand it, as we're told, and the Ego side, of course.
- 0:29Speaker 1: So let's get started. So Friday afternoon, the Eagles agreed
- 0:33Speaker 1: to a trade to get don Tavian Wicks from the
- 0:35Speaker 1: Packers for true draft picks. It's a lot to give up.
- 0:40Speaker 1: By the way they got. The Eagles are giving up
- 0:41Speaker 1: a twenty twenty six fifth round pick. Now what I
- 0:44Speaker 1: don't know is is it the first one of two
- 0:48Speaker 1: they have. The Eagles have the one from the Falcons,
- 0:51Speaker 1: which is a Draft D trade, which is one fifty
- 0:53Speaker 1: three overall, and they have the compic which is one
- 0:55Speaker 1: seventy eight overall. But anyway, it's gonna be a fifth
- 0:57Speaker 1: round pick this year and a twenty twenty seven to
- 1:01Speaker 1: six round pick for Wis and Wis. According to ESPN
- 1:04Speaker 1: has agreed to a twelve point five million dollar extension
- 1:08Speaker 1: with the Eagles. Now, obviously, if you're going to pay
- 1:11Speaker 1: a guy twelve point five million dollars for a season, now,
- 1:14Speaker 1: we don't know. We don't know the structure. We don't
- 1:16Speaker 1: know how much is guaranteed. We know the total number
- 1:19Speaker 1: for twenty twenty seven, which will be the finity of
- 1:21Speaker 1: his deal, is going to be. It's a lot twelve
- 1:25Speaker 1: point five million. Even if it's only five million guaranteed,
- 1:28Speaker 1: a four million guaranteed, the total number is twelve point
- 1:30Speaker 1: five million, which means he's going to have a meaningful role.
- 1:33Speaker 1: This does not spell to me. Backup, Okay, his salary
- 1:37Speaker 1: for this season, folks, he had what's called a best
- 1:40Speaker 1: base escalator mandated by the CBA based on playing time
- 1:44Speaker 1: he hit it. It's actually very easy to achieve. He'll
- 1:48Speaker 1: make three point six to seven four million dollars this season,
- 1:50Speaker 1: not guaranteed. There's going to be some guaranteed money in here,
- 1:54Speaker 1: there's no question about. We just don't know how much.
- 1:56Speaker 1: What's ironic is the next show we're going to tape
- 1:59Speaker 1: is going to be on Eagles free agent contracts. We've
- 2:03Speaker 1: got all of them except for I think two. But
- 2:04Speaker 1: we have some details that are not out there which
- 2:06Speaker 1: we wanted to give, but this supersedes it. So let's
- 2:10Speaker 1: talk about Wicks here. Wicks is a fascinating player. I
- 2:14Speaker 1: know some people have had high hopes. He's a talented player.
- 2:19Speaker 1: I think what heard him folks he went to University
- 2:21Speaker 1: of Virginia is he had an awful combine run forty time.
- 2:25Speaker 1: If the official time was four six two in twenty
- 2:28Speaker 1: twenty three, that is a tight end time. That's not
- 2:32Speaker 1: good enough. That's going to knock you down. The word
- 2:33Speaker 1: I heard was pre combine, although a part of his workout.
- 2:38Speaker 1: Interestingly enough, his vert was thirty nine, which is not bad.
- 2:41Speaker 1: His broad jump was ten ten, not bad, but a
- 2:45Speaker 1: four to six two is going to knock you down.
- 2:47Speaker 1: Good size just onder six foot two six one three
- 2:50Speaker 1: a's arm length good for receivers thirty two and three.
- 2:54Speaker 1: A's Greg co Sellar, friend from the NFL films who
- 2:57Speaker 1: you know worked for us here inside the Birds. It
- 3:01Speaker 1: has for many years. He's always like Wicks. But my
- 3:04Speaker 1: understanding from Wicks over the years with the packerses, they
- 3:07Speaker 1: thought he'd do better than he had Now saying that
- 3:11Speaker 1: why were they happy to move him? They got again
- 3:14Speaker 1: good value for a guy was going to be clearly about.
- 3:17Speaker 1: He had no chance to start for them. He was
- 3:19Speaker 1: mostly a backup for them spots starter started in three
- 3:22Speaker 1: receiver sets, whin eleven personnel, but he was never a
- 3:26Speaker 1: seventy five percent playe talk about which would tell he's
- 3:28Speaker 1: a true start. He's not. He was never even over
- 3:30Speaker 1: sixty percent for a season. It's had some minor injuries,
- 3:33Speaker 1: but injuries are not the problem here. He just was
- 3:35Speaker 1: not quite as good. He would look good for a
- 3:38Speaker 1: spell then drop off a Christian Park at Christian Park,
- 3:42Speaker 1: Christian Watson got hurt with the ACL. He can never
- 3:45Speaker 1: quite replace him. They drafted Matthew Golden, Jayden Reid had
- 3:49Speaker 1: his injury last year. Who's there three, So it's gonna
- 3:52Speaker 1: be Watson. It's gonna be Golden and Red when they
- 3:54Speaker 1: go to eleven personnel. They also have saveon Williams. And
- 3:57Speaker 1: this is another thing, This is another reason why they
- 3:59Speaker 1: traded him. Savion Williams was a third round pick last
- 4:04Speaker 1: year and he's got to play. I mean they look
- 4:06Speaker 1: when you draft a player in the top three rounds,
- 4:08Speaker 1: that's the bottom end of a starter round Wayams, by
- 4:11Speaker 1: the way, has got great size. He's just under six
- 4:13Speaker 1: foot four to twenty plus. So Wis obviously was not
- 4:16Speaker 1: gonna be resigned, and they got something for him quite friendly,
- 4:20Speaker 1: which is really good value. So that's the Packers standpoint.
- 4:23Speaker 1: Let's get to the Eagles here, which is why a
- 4:25Speaker 1: lot of people are watching this. One's fascinating because I
- 4:28Speaker 1: know a lot of people are gonna are gonna jump
- 4:30Speaker 1: to conclusions which are actually very fair, and I'll get
- 4:32Speaker 1: into that. So on Wix here, and he was obviously
- 4:37Speaker 1: with Sean Manning, who's the new Eagles offensive coordinator. He'll
- 4:41Speaker 1: know the terminology they're switching to the the the verbage
- 4:45Speaker 1: system pure West Coast, so Wicks will know that system.
- 4:49Speaker 1: That's really important. But the big thing here is they've got,
- 4:54Speaker 1: as it stands now before they decide what they're gonna
- 4:56Speaker 1: do with aj Brown and people. If people want to
- 4:58Speaker 1: speculate he's going to be traded, I wouldn't disagree, but
- 5:01Speaker 1: let you know, I'm gonna explain some stuff to you,
- 5:02Speaker 1: and stuff we reported three years ago after remind people
- 5:06Speaker 1: because they're forgetting that the patriots of boys like them.
- 5:08Speaker 1: It has little. It has something to do with Mike Rabel,
- 5:11Speaker 1: but it's Elliot Wolf two. We'll get into that. But
- 5:14Speaker 1: right now, as it stands AJ Brown, Hollywood Brown, AJ
- 5:19Speaker 1: Brown is twenty nine million dollars total total cash that's due,
- 5:22Speaker 1: by the way, all guaranteed Hollywood Brown. Okay, who's going
- 5:27Speaker 1: to play. He's going to be their speed receiver, pure
- 5:31Speaker 1: speed receiver. Hollywood Brown. By the way, not only he's
- 5:34Speaker 1: going to make five million. Let me see what my
- 5:36Speaker 1: file here says. I think it's fully guaranteed, but I'll
- 5:39Speaker 1: tell you in one second. Yeah, Hollywood Brown's money is
- 5:43Speaker 1: fully guaranteed, all of it. So he's got to play. Okay,
- 5:46Speaker 1: So right now you've got Brown Smith cocause Brown's currently
- 5:50Speaker 1: on the team. Brown and Smith are starters. Right when
- 5:53Speaker 1: they go to eleven personnel, the first guy in has
- 5:55Speaker 1: got to be Wicks. If they're moving AJ Brown my senses,
- 6:00Speaker 1: and it doesn't mean they can't draft somebody. If they
- 6:02Speaker 1: move to a J. Brown and you have a Lojen
- 6:04Speaker 1: Moore who's really a slot receiver or Z which is
- 6:06Speaker 1: a moon position Moore's and more right now is gonna
- 6:10Speaker 1: have to earn his way under the roster. He hasn't
- 6:11Speaker 1: played good fulm in a while. But it's Smith. If
- 6:14Speaker 1: they move Brown and Wis to me with you know,
- 6:17Speaker 1: the twelve and a half million means something to me.
- 6:18Speaker 1: I wish we knew the contract breakdown, but it would
- 6:21Speaker 1: be Smith and Wix because Wix protects DeVante from a
- 6:24Speaker 1: size standpoint, that makes sense. You got Darius Cooper who's
- 6:28Speaker 1: could play Z but he could also play inside. You
- 6:31Speaker 1: got Danny Gray who's on the outside looking who could run,
- 6:34Speaker 1: but he's had major injury problems. Kus Watkins is still there,
- 6:37Speaker 1: but as it stands now, it's Brown. Your top four
- 6:40Speaker 1: receivers for the Eagles are very simple, Brown and Smith
- 6:46Speaker 1: Hollywood Brown or more keys if we call him by
- 6:48Speaker 1: his real first name and it's really a J. Brown.
- 6:56Speaker 1: Hollywood Brown, Wix and DeVante Smith. Those are your four.
- 6:59Speaker 1: That's a hell of a man. Can you imagine that
- 7:01Speaker 1: if they if they didn't trade Brown, it's AJ. So
- 7:05Speaker 1: it's funny. I was talking to a coach from another
- 7:07Speaker 1: team about right after the trade broke and said, hey,
- 7:10Speaker 1: he didn't study Wis, but I said, what is your opinion?
- 7:12Speaker 1: And the first thing he said is did they sign
- 7:14Speaker 1: Holliday Brown for some money, and I said, yeah, I
- 7:16Speaker 1: think it's said. I got to look it up. I
- 7:18Speaker 1: have it at my computer and it is five million,
- 7:21Speaker 1: fully guaranteed. And the guy goes, look and he goes,
- 7:24Speaker 1: they didn't sign Holly Brown not to play. He goes.
- 7:26Speaker 1: My first thought would be, they're probably gonna move aj Brown.
- 7:29Speaker 1: How he's probably not doing this, and uh, this coach
- 7:33Speaker 1: it was on Twitter and he saw it. He goes.
- 7:35Speaker 1: He goes. He goes, I don't know much about contracts,
- 7:37Speaker 1: but towe a half million seems a lot of money
- 7:38Speaker 1: for a backup. I said, I hear you, buddy, he goes.
- 7:41Speaker 1: If it were me, I would think I would think
- 7:44Speaker 1: that Wicks will be starting. I'm like, well, they would
- 7:47Speaker 1: have to move Brown first, but yes, that would make sense.
- 7:49Speaker 1: And obviously again the Seawan Mannion connection. So so right now,
- 7:53Speaker 1: if they move Brown, it's DeVante, Smith and Wix. That
- 7:56Speaker 1: would be my sense, folks, since they gave up two
- 7:59Speaker 1: draft picks. By the way, they got two draft picks
- 8:01Speaker 1: and Hollywood Brown would be three. Particularly when they go
- 8:04Speaker 1: to LEFN personnel wisul DeVante could play inside the cool
- 8:08Speaker 1: thing about this, Wix could play the exposition. Okay, could
- 8:12Speaker 1: he could play A J. Brown's position? Smith is a
- 8:15Speaker 1: Z who could also play inside Hollywood Brown. Could he
- 8:19Speaker 1: could be moved around? You could play him in a
- 8:20Speaker 1: lot of positions. And this guy, this coach I talked to, said, yes,
- 8:24Speaker 1: I'm a big Hollywood Brown fan. He knows he's not
- 8:25Speaker 1: been as good as he should be. He said that
- 8:28Speaker 1: he is. He had to study this. This coach said
- 8:30Speaker 1: he he studied Hollywood Brown for free agency. He said
- 8:33Speaker 1: he could still run. He said, the problem with Holly
- 8:36Speaker 1: what Brown is he's just not big enough physically, which
- 8:39Speaker 1: is something if you've study him before, you probably knew that.
- 8:42Speaker 1: But he said he has not lost any speed up.
- 8:44Speaker 1: Like I was glad to hear that. That's good to
- 8:45Speaker 1: know because this guy would know he's watching coaching tape,
- 8:48Speaker 1: so they would have a crowded room. I A J.
- 8:50Speaker 1: Brown's It is not traded. But what I was referring
- 8:53Speaker 1: to earlier is the Patriots called the Eagles three years ago.
- 8:58Speaker 1: Way we put this on our show. We know others
- 9:00Speaker 1: know about this, other reporters know about it, but we
- 9:03Speaker 1: got it pretty strongly. It was l eight Wolf calling
- 9:06Speaker 1: or checking into it. And he was not available. Of
- 9:10Speaker 1: course AJ would get his next extension. So that's where
- 9:14Speaker 1: it's at. Very crowded receiver room for the Eagles here.
- 9:17Speaker 1: Johnny Wilson, by the way, is coming back. He's just
- 9:18Speaker 1: a blocking receiver. It would be fascinating by I wouldn't
- 9:23Speaker 1: call it a minor miracle, but if they didn't trade Brown, AJ,
- 9:25Speaker 1: that is, they would have a hell of a receiver room,
- 9:28Speaker 1: maybe won the best of the National Football League. To crowded.
- 9:31Speaker 1: You can't pay everybody, folks. AJ Brown twenty nine million
- 9:34Speaker 1: this season. How they were Brown five million. DeVante Smith
- 9:38Speaker 1: by the way, Since since we're at it, let's see
- 9:40Speaker 1: what DeVante's owed the season in total cash fourteen million.
- 9:43Speaker 1: It's too much money. We told folks at the started
- 9:46Speaker 1: free agency their cash ben would be up. We were right.
- 9:49Speaker 1: Last year we told you would be down. We were right.
- 9:52Speaker 1: We're not expecting to spend this kind of money. This
- 9:56Speaker 1: is a little bit more than we expected. Damian Pierce
- 9:57Speaker 1: got some guaranteed money that's going to be in our
- 9:59Speaker 1: next contract. In fact, that his contract's interesting. We'll get
- 10:03Speaker 1: to that the next time. But that's it. We pretty
- 10:06Speaker 1: much covered it. Sean Mannion is reunited with a guy
- 10:08Speaker 1: that he knows. Sean's going to call the plays this year.
- 10:12Speaker 1: He wants someone who knows the offense. He's got Ryan Mahaffey,
- 10:15Speaker 1: who's the Tenants coach and the run game coordinator. This
- 10:18Speaker 1: is going to be fascinating, folks. This is going to
- 10:20Speaker 1: be a true West Coast Auce defense, not quite like
- 10:22Speaker 1: Gayer Reid's by the way, it's going to be different.
- 10:25Speaker 1: It's going to be different. How different we're going to
- 10:27Speaker 1: see an OTAs. So that's that's just a quick review
- 10:30Speaker 1: of More of this on our Monday show with Jeff
- 10:33Speaker 1: Mosher and I. Well, we'll have more information from from
- 10:35Speaker 1: more scouting people. But one more thing on Wicks. I've
- 10:39Speaker 1: talked to three people today about Wicks. They all like him.
- 10:44Speaker 1: The one, the one receivers coach did didn't study him because, uh,
- 10:48Speaker 1: he said he hasn't studied him as a professional. He
- 10:50Speaker 1: studied him for that draft. He said he's a big
- 10:53Speaker 1: bodied receiver, possession receiver, run after the catch guy, go
- 10:57Speaker 1: bingo West Coast offense, but he had not seen him
- 10:59Speaker 1: as a professional because he's not a receiver. He's not
- 11:01Speaker 1: a free agent, so he wasn't looking at him now,
- 11:03Speaker 1: But everyone I've talked to likes him. Nobody really loves him.
- 11:08Speaker 1: Greg Greg co Cell liked him for that draft because
- 11:10Speaker 1: I remember we were doing shows with Greg then and
- 11:12Speaker 1: twenty three. He liked him, but he just never played
- 11:15Speaker 1: consistent of football.
- 11:16Speaker 2: Hey, if you're like me, you're desensitized to the dozens
- 11:19Speaker 2: of notifications on your phone every day. But if that
- 11:22Speaker 2: latest ping is from your security camera, ignoring it could
- 11:26Speaker 2: spell disaster. Picture this, someone's breaking into your home, but
- 11:29Speaker 2: you're giving a huge presentation at work, or you're at

- 13:32Speaker 2: and an experience made for Philly fans twenty one and.
- 13:35Speaker 1: Up to secure a starting role. But I'm very fascinating
- 13:39Speaker 1: to see what happens if AJ Brown is traded. We
- 13:42Speaker 1: don't two percentage. As you know in the show, we've
- 13:44Speaker 1: never done them. You never will. But every if you
- 13:47Speaker 1: read the tea leaves and are reporting it inside the
- 13:49Speaker 1: Birds has been very simple. If he's going to the Patriots,
- 13:53Speaker 1: if degals get they want what they want from the Patriots,
- 13:56Speaker 1: he's gone. But they have not. The Rams, their GM
- 14:01Speaker 1: went on the record at at the combine or owners
- 14:07Speaker 1: it would have been. It would have been the owners meetings,
- 14:09Speaker 1: and it was very upfront about it, so about yes,
- 14:15Speaker 1: they talked to the Eagles about AJ Brown, but they
- 14:17Speaker 1: couldn't complete the deal. So with the Rams get reinvolved,
- 14:20Speaker 1: I don't know about that. They seem to have moved on,
- 14:23Speaker 1: so we'll see what happens. But this is a fascinating
- 14:26Speaker 1: trait is wix can play, and I'm so interested to
- 14:31Speaker 1: see the breakdown of the real money the twelve point
- 14:35Speaker 1: five million for twenty twenty seven because he signed one
- 14:37Speaker 1: year extension. I'm very fascinating to see what that really
- 14:40Speaker 1: looks like. So until then, folks, that's all I got.
