- 00:00:05:20 - 00:00:08:00 MAK Hey, everybody, welcome back to 2MC 00:00:08:02 - 00:00:09:06 Courtney Yeah. That's MAK 00:00:09:13 - 00:00:10:17 MAK I am. 00:00:10:20 - 00:00:15:04 Courtney And, it's our weekly podcast, all things Martin County government. 00:00:15:06 - 00:00:19:14 MAK Yes, we've had a bit of a week, but you know what? There's some good stuff. 00:00:19:16 - 00:00:20:19 Courtney It's been a rainy week. 00:00:20:25 - 00:00:28:19 MAK You know what? That we don't. We're getting out of our drought. We are. That was hard for me to get out. 00:00:28:19 - 00:00:32:12 Courtney My main rain. Don't go away. We need you to stay another day. 00:00:32:14 - 00:00:47:11 MAK Yeah. So I know, you know, people might be like, this is frustrating. Like when we get from our car to the building. But it has. Right is good. Yeah. That's what we're going to start with. Rain is good that we should start with that. 00:00:47:14 - 00:00:50:22 Courtney And we are not your local weather people. 00:00:50:22 - 00:00:55:11 MAK So we are not weather people as you say. 00:00:55:14 - 00:00:56:06 Courtney Meteorologist. 00:00:56:13 - 00:00:57:21 MAK Yeah. 00:00:57:24 - 00:01:00:18 Courtney I near the word. I just couldn't think of it at that moment. 00:01:00:18 - 00:01:02:11 MAK I feel like we should jump right into our stuff. 00:01:02:12 - 00:01:09:12 Courtney Let's do it. So we did have a board meeting this week. And they did a lot of things. 00:01:09:15 - 00:01:13:26 MAK As they typically do. Yes. Right. 00:01:13:28 - 00:01:16:24 Courtney And they had NAC appointments 00:01:16:27 - 00:01:20:09 MAK I like this the NAC oh oh. 00:01:20:12 - 00:01:22:04 Courtney They might be wondering what is NAC 00:01:22:05 - 00:01:34:03 MAK Well I was just going to say that you go right ahead. Oh did you tell me. Oh, no. No. Okay, fine. Neighborhood advisory committees. And for at this meeting, they did appointments for the Golden Gate in the old Palm City neighborhoods. 00:01:34:04 - 00:01:39:14 Courtney Yes. So these committees assist in the preparation of the required community redevelopment plan. 00:01:39:16 - 00:01:40:09 MAK Yeah. 00:01:40:11 - 00:01:45:07 Courtney And therefore each designated CRA area. 00:01:45:10 - 00:01:46:14 MAK You read that very well. 00:01:46:16 - 00:01:47:21 Courtney Thank you. 00:01:47:24 - 00:02:03:10 MAK So if you live in a neighborhood in an area cra. All right, then you can participate in these meetings. You don't even have to be a member. You can just participate. But it helps drive what's going on in that, little community. And I think that's so cool. 00:02:03:16 - 00:02:07:07 Courtney Yeah. It's a minimum of five people and a maximum of nine. 00:02:07:10 - 00:02:08:16 MAK Wow. Nine I. 00:02:08:16 - 00:02:09:11 Courtney Know. 00:02:09:14 - 00:02:10:17 MAK That's a big committee. 00:02:10:23 - 00:02:11:08 Courtney I know. 00:02:11:08 - 00:02:13:29 MAK Okay. So thanks for bringing that to us. 00:02:14:04 - 00:02:21:14 Courtney We sometimes we are looking for people for those committees, different things. So Donna Gordon is your person. We'll drop that down. 00:02:21:16 - 00:02:24:27 MAK She's everybody's person. We love Donna. Right. 00:02:24:29 - 00:02:28:06 Courtney And so she's who you need to go to you if you want to join any of those. 00:02:28:06 - 00:02:37:02 MAK Yeah. We'll drop the information in the show notes. There's a page for, actually all of our boards and committees, and you can check out any of the vacancies that are available and apply. 00:02:37:04 - 00:02:40:14 Courtney That's very true. Right. That was a good factual information. 00:02:40:14 - 00:02:41:24 MAK You just can you see how I did that? 00:02:41:25 - 00:02:42:20 Courtney Yes. 00:02:42:23 - 00:02:44:25 MAK We did some other stuff at the board meeting. 00:02:44:27 - 00:02:45:19 Courtney Yes we. 00:02:45:19 - 00:02:49:18 MAK Did. We talked about the lithium. What we didn't. 00:02:49:20 - 00:02:50:05 Courtney Know we did. 00:02:50:05 - 00:02:54:00 MAK Not. Fire-Rescue did a presentation on the lithium ion batteries. 00:02:54:00 - 00:02:56:03 Courtney Yeah. Their fire prevention team. 00:02:56:08 - 00:03:06:09 MAK Yes, their fire prevention team. And we have talked about this before. I don't know if you guys remember or if you listened in or watched it, but we had, Chris on. 00:03:06:11 - 00:03:07:00 Courtney Chris Hansen. 00:03:07:00 - 00:03:11:04 MAK Chris Hansen, and we learned a lot during that. 00:03:11:08 - 00:03:13:07 Courtney Yeah. Do you remember at all? 00:03:13:10 - 00:03:25:10 MAK Yes, because I he talked about a charger or chargers for your phone. And I was shocked because I had charger in the bed. 00:03:25:12 - 00:03:25:29 Courtney Oh gosh. 00:03:26:00 - 00:03:27:07 MAK And he said that's not good. 00:03:27:09 - 00:03:34:15 Courtney Now that's not good because in 2025, there were 212 battery fires in Florida. 00:03:34:17 - 00:03:40:24 MAK And we had some right here. We were just at the transfer station the other day and they were talking about battery fires. 00:03:40:25 - 00:03:48:27 Courtney Yeah. They are most commonly caused by scooter hoverboards. 00:03:49:00 - 00:03:50:15 MAK I do not have one of those. 00:03:50:15 - 00:04:09:09 Courtney Golf carts, electric vehicles or battery backup devices. So some common things that have lithium batteries is drones, tools, laptops, portable ACS, holiday decorations, all things to look out for. And don't throw those away. 00:04:09:12 - 00:04:15:12 MAK But you can take them to our household hazardous waste station. Yes, at the transfer station or the house mobile? 00:04:15:18 - 00:04:16:07 Courtney Correct? 00:04:16:07 - 00:04:19:27 MAK Right. And dispose of them properly. Be safe out there, Martin County. 00:04:20:05 - 00:04:25:06 Courtney Be safe. Yes. Go ahead. 00:04:25:08 - 00:04:27:28 MAK Okay. This is super exciting. 00:04:28:00 - 00:04:29:12 Courtney It's exciting because it's in the home. 00:04:29:16 - 00:04:59:28 MAK I know again, we, the board accepted acquisition of parcels in Hobe Sound, totaling a little over three acres. Yes. And then the donation of one and a quarter acres along southeast Dixie highway. Again in Hobe Sound. Yes. Amazing things. Amazing conservation. Land is growing. And that's all thanks to the half cent sales tax that you guys voted for. 00:04:59:29 - 00:05:03:28 MAK Yeah. So thank you. 00:05:04:00 - 00:05:08:01 Courtney And you know what? I found something very interesting. We had. 00:05:08:01 - 00:05:08:15 MAK Please tell. 00:05:08:15 - 00:05:13:11 Courtney Me cares this week. And Stephanie Murley our budget director. 00:05:13:12 - 00:05:15:17 MAK Oh my gosh. We had such great presentations this week. 00:05:15:18 - 00:05:36:27 Courtney She came to us and while she was doing her presentation and in the financial transparency page, you can go in and see where your half cent sales tax dollars, like how much each piece of land has been, what pieces of land we've bought. So that's something that's super interesting. And it is that while we were talking about it, thank you. 00:05:36:27 - 00:05:57:01 MAK And you know, the other cool thing about not just about the transparency portal, but the land acquisition, how much it costs, what we paid, but also the leverage of those dollars with state and federal dollars. It really stretches, yeah, what we're able to buy or it stretches the dollars so we can buy more. Yeah. 00:05:57:05 - 00:06:01:05 Courtney And while we're talking about that, I think we would be remiss. 00:06:01:13 - 00:06:03:05 MAK That's what I would just say. Remiss. 00:06:03:08 - 00:06:03:29 Courtney Remiss not. 00:06:03:29 - 00:06:09:14 MAK Remiss. I would be remiss. No, that's not a thing. 00:06:09:16 - 00:06:25:20 Courtney Martin County forever conservation celebration. Yep. It is happening. Friday, April 17th at 9 a.m.. It is going to be a celebration. Celebration of the conservation that is happening because of the half cent sales tax. 00:06:25:23 - 00:06:34:19 MAK You could say that. Yeah, I don't know. It's a cool thing. We're we're super excited about it. You guys should be excited about it. And we're we just we want to share it with everybody. 00:06:34:22 - 00:06:45:14 Courtney And you might be wondering where that is because I didn't tell you. It's a Timer Powers Park and we are asking for people to RSVP by April 13th, and we'll drop that down in the show notes. 00:06:45:15 - 00:06:47:00 MAK Yep. Did you RSVP? 00:06:47:03 - 00:06:49:06 Courtney I am, I will be there. 00:06:49:07 - 00:06:51:25 MAK Oh, because you're working? Yes. Got it. 00:06:51:28 - 00:06:53:02 Courtney I don't think that I but. 00:06:53:02 - 00:06:55:06 MAK We hope you guys RSVP. 00:06:55:08 - 00:07:16:05 Courtney And, Yeah, just so you guys know, we have gotten over to more than 2000 acres. Yes. So far, so it's really cool. It is cool. We are tire up. I for tie around for mosquito control. Yes. You know we do that every year. 00:07:16:06 - 00:07:25:16 MAK Right. And it was kind of interesting because we were in this drought right when we were first talking about it. And we're like, you know, rain water collects in tires, but there was no rain to be had. 00:07:25:16 - 00:07:28:04 Courtney Yeah, definitely has been collecting and tires. 00:07:28:05 - 00:07:38:11 MAK Yes. So do not let those mosquitoes breed do their thing. I was going to say in your tires. Take them to the tire roundup. 00:07:38:15 - 00:07:40:09 Courtney Yes. And, where. 00:07:40:09 - 00:07:43:10 MAK Is it this week? 00:07:43:12 - 00:08:03:16 Courtney This is at Lamar Howard Park this week on Saturday, 8 to 1. And, there is a limit of ten passenger tires per household. But I was going to say because of all the rain. Another important thing to remember is the tip and toss. 00:08:03:18 - 00:08:06:14 MAK Oh that is true from our mosquito control guys right. Yeah. 00:08:06:15 - 00:08:11:03 Courtney So if you have water that's been sitting make sure you toss that water. 00:08:11:03 - 00:08:17:15 MAK Water everywhere. Oh gosh. Not a drop to spare. 00:08:17:15 - 00:08:18:27 Courtney Not a drop to spare. 00:08:18:27 - 00:08:20:15 MAK Right. 00:08:20:17 - 00:08:21:15 Courtney Yeah. So yeah. 00:08:21:18 - 00:08:22:08 MAK Tip and toss. 00:08:22:09 - 00:08:25:02 Courtney Toss it. So that way there's less water. 00:08:25:02 - 00:08:31:03 MAK Right in your planters and pool toys or whatever you might have on your. Yes to tomatoes. 00:08:31:03 - 00:08:32:09 Courtney Fountains that are. 00:08:32:09 - 00:08:33:08 MAK Containers. 00:08:33:10 - 00:08:41:14 Courtney Still, like still standing water. Yes. Fountain that does it has a aerator. Yeah. Thank you. 00:08:41:15 - 00:08:42:00 MAK Fountain. 00:08:42:07 - 00:08:46:27 Courtney Yeah, exactly. Then toss toss that water. 00:08:46:29 - 00:08:48:16 MAK 00:08:48:19 - 00:08:50:09 Courtney Okay. 00:08:50:12 - 00:08:51:24 MAK I like this. 00:08:51:27 - 00:08:57:02 Courtney Okay. Which one. Not your average tonight but. 00:08:57:02 - 00:09:06:09 MAK Cannot could not. It could be a cannot but it's it's like kindness but it's the opposite right. Okay. 00:09:06:11 - 00:09:07:11 Courtney Yes. So. 00:09:07:11 - 00:09:09:10 MAK And why is it spelled that way. Cannot. 00:09:09:17 - 00:09:18:04 Courtney Because they are making a cozy blanket. That's why. 00:09:18:05 - 00:09:18:17 MAK Cool. 00:09:18:22 - 00:09:21:13 Courtney Yeah. Which I can use right now. 00:09:21:13 - 00:09:27:19 MAK Because a little fleece blanket, it's the kind where you tie it. Right? Tie. Take those strips and knotted. Yeah, you cut. 00:09:27:19 - 00:09:30:28 Courtney It, you know it. You make a blanket. Cool. 00:09:31:00 - 00:09:31:26 MAK And that's for our teens. 00:09:31:29 - 00:09:40:23 Courtney Yes.
