- 1:56Speaker 1: that one. In this episode of Disguise Coverage, we will
- 2:00Speaker 1: be separating the real concerns from the fake for the
- 2:04Speaker 1: twenty twenty five Buffalo Bills. The Bills coming off their
- 2:08Speaker 1: first loss of the twenty twenty five regular season against
- 2:11Speaker 1: the New England Patriots at home with the rivalry jerseys
- 2:14Speaker 1: and the white out. That was cool and that joy
- 2:17Speaker 1: was well not too short lived. But yeah, the Bill's
- 2:20Speaker 1: lost and coming from that loss, they're from my vantage point.
- 2:28Speaker 1: This is funny from RJ, who says I'm a sad
- 2:30Speaker 1: panda after that loss. A nice South Park reference. Oh also,
- 2:32Speaker 1: I wanted to grab this awesome reference with Kay Morey
- 2:35Speaker 1: who said I tuned in and Sean Hockey threw another
- 2:37Speaker 1: flag on the Bills A plus AA plus. I'm gonna
- 2:40Speaker 1: be going through a lot of comments here. In this one,
- 2:44Speaker 1: RJ found up and saying that this was a soul
- 2:46Speaker 1: crushing loss. Yeah, there's you know, just I think a
- 2:49Speaker 1: disappointing loss, especially knowing the caliber of team that fans
- 2:54Speaker 1: hope the bills to be and what we think they
- 2:56Speaker 1: can be, and to have this kind of loss the
- 2:58Speaker 1: way they look to have it be against the patriot
- 3:00Speaker 1: it's the form and fashion that it came in disappointing.
- 3:02Speaker 1: All around one thousand percent. There are and have been
- 3:07Speaker 1: a multitude of questions that have kind of come up
- 3:10Speaker 1: around Great comment, James, Great comment James Jameson's nine thirty
- 3:16Speaker 1: nine or forty seconds. You may hear a Honda roaster
- 3:18Speaker 1: thrown like up as passes your window. I had nothing
- 3:20Speaker 1: to do with it. And then a bike eboji for
- 3:22Speaker 1: those who don't know. I keep having this luck of
- 3:23Speaker 1: motorcycles riding by anytime I do any show, whether it's
- 3:26Speaker 1: here or the film room, and it's just constant. I
- 3:28Speaker 1: actually heard one faintly in the distance right now, So
- 3:31Speaker 1: well done James on that one. Yeah, there's been a
- 3:34Speaker 1: multitude of questions that have come up around the bills,
- 3:38Speaker 1: or surrounding the bills since they're lost to New England,
- 3:41Speaker 1: and I thought it would be fun to kind of
- 3:43Speaker 1: address several of those tonight, especially because I feel like
- 3:47Speaker 1: several of them have been prevalent last year with this team.
- 3:52Speaker 1: This year with this team. But as the old saying goes,
- 3:56Speaker 1: winning cures everything. And I think several of the issues
- 3:59Speaker 1: that Bills had in this game are you know, and
- 4:02Speaker 1: I say issues in quotes, right, For as much as
- 4:05Speaker 1: this loss sucked, right and how everyone kind of feels.
- 4:11Speaker 1: They turned the ball over three times, including interception in
- 4:13Speaker 1: the red zone from Josh Allen. They committed a multitude
- 4:15Speaker 1: of penalties. They had several questionable decisions from Josh Allen.
- 4:19Speaker 1: Like there was a lot of ugliness, There was more mistackles,
- 4:22Speaker 1: just a lot of things you don't want to see.
- 4:23Speaker 1: They struggled to run the ball in the multitude of ways,
- 4:25Speaker 1: and they still barely lost. Like they lost by three.
- 4:27Speaker 1: I know there's no silver linings. This isn't to say
- 4:29Speaker 1: that it's a moral victory or anything like that. But
- 4:32Speaker 1: I say all that to say, you know, the issues
- 4:35Speaker 1: that they have are issues, and I think they're fair.
- 4:38Speaker 1: This is still a very good football team. No team
- 4:40Speaker 1: is perfect, no team is without issues. But several of
- 4:44Speaker 1: the issues and things we're gonna be talking about tonight
- 4:45Speaker 1: are things that I think we're prevalent when they were
- 4:49Speaker 1: four and oh, are things that I think were prevalent
- 4:53Speaker 1: to a degree last year as well, including one or
- 4:55Speaker 1: two big ones, and I think they are largely glossed
- 4:59Speaker 1: o by the fact that the Bills were winning even
- 5:02Speaker 1: one of them. And you know, I'm gonna keep it
- 5:05Speaker 1: brief now before we really dive into it. You know,
- 5:07Speaker 1: I mentioned the deep ball piece during the Miami game,
- 5:11Speaker 1: and I got so many people that were coming at
- 5:13Speaker 1: me because they were like, they're fine, they're three and zero.
- 5:16Speaker 1: They don't need that. Everything is sunshine and rainbows. It's great.
- 5:19Speaker 1: Joe Brady, you know, mentioned some stuff the next day
- 5:22Speaker 1: about Alan, you know, taking what the defense gives them.
- 5:24Speaker 1: Alan mentioned that people were quote tweeting it left and
- 5:27Speaker 1: right and making jokes about, you know, they don't need
- 5:30Speaker 1: the deep ball, and you know, oh, but like how
- 5:32Speaker 1: can they win if they don't throw deep ha ha,
- 5:34Speaker 1: And then they lose a game and everybody swings the
- 5:37Speaker 1: pendulum the other way and they're like, well, because they
- 5:38Speaker 1: can't throw deep, this offense sucks fire. Joe Brady, the
- 5:42Speaker 1: pendulum swing of emotions is wild, and so I think
- 5:46Speaker 1: that kind of putting things into perspective tonight in this episode, Oh,
- 5:49Speaker 1: I gotta stop. So we got super chat Brad, thank
- 5:52Speaker 1: you so much for being here. There's a motorcycle. I
- 5:53Speaker 1: don't know if anybody heard it. There it is. We're
- 5:55Speaker 1: already at five minutes in and we got one. Thank
- 5:57Speaker 1: you very much for being here, Brad. Thank you for
- 5:59Speaker 1: the super chat. Brad says, I'm putting this game in
- 6:02Speaker 1: the WTF loss bucket. They always have one to two
- 6:05Speaker 1: a year around weeks four to six, then find their
- 6:09Speaker 1: way back. It is annoying that these losses seem to
- 6:11Speaker 1: always affect the standings, though, I think that's very fair.
- 6:13Speaker 1: You know, it's a conference loss, it's against the Patriots.
- 6:17Speaker 1: Patriots fans were really loud coming into this week. Motorcycle
- 6:23Speaker 1: never fails. Patriots fans were really loud coming into this
- 6:26Speaker 1: past week. I think the Patriots themselves were feeling a
- 6:28Speaker 1: bit confident, and so that adds up to this or
- 6:33Speaker 1: I think adds some more like fuel to the fire
- 6:34Speaker 1: from an emotion standpoint. You lose this game, you lose
- 6:37Speaker 1: it in ugly fashion. It's a Sunday night primetime game.
- 6:40Speaker 1: It's the white out, it's all this you know, cool atmosphere.
- 6:43Speaker 1: It's the last game against the Patriots. Had high mark
- 6:45Speaker 1: or the row for rich Stadium, whatever you want to
- 6:47Speaker 1: call it, and the Bills just lose and it's an
- 6:49Speaker 1: ugly loss, really sloppy. And yeah, then on top of that,
- 6:53Speaker 1: it's against a division opponent, it's against the conference opponent,
- 6:57Speaker 1: all that kind of stuff. So yeah, it I feel
- 7:01Speaker 1: you on that. But you know, to your point, they
- 7:02Speaker 1: always seem to have a loss every year where it's like,
- 7:05Speaker 1: how did you lose that game or how did you
- 7:06Speaker 1: lose to this team? And who knows, maybe from here
- 7:09Speaker 1: on out the Patriots will be a juggernaut and it's like, oh,
- 7:11Speaker 1: it makes sense that you lost, you know, close game
- 7:13Speaker 1: to a really good team, or maybe the Patriots fall
- 7:15Speaker 1: apart and it's like it looks even worse. It's like
- 7:16Speaker 1: I can't believe you lost that game to that team.
- 7:19Speaker 1: But yeah, I think this loss has put potential things
- 7:26Speaker 1: a little you know, put fallen apart already has put
- 7:29Speaker 1: several things potentially more into focus for folks. And I
- 7:33Speaker 1: would say, as we get into everything tonight, one, I
- 7:36Speaker 1: don't have any film planning for this episode, largely because
- 7:39Speaker 1: the NFL is cracking down like crazy and it's a
- 7:42Speaker 1: lot to jump through. All the hurdles of copyright, and
- 7:44Speaker 1: getting dinged in all this kind of stuff. But also
- 7:46Speaker 1: I just didn't have time to put film together. I've
- 7:48Speaker 1: had a crazy, hillaciously busy last five or six days
- 7:52Speaker 1: and standing into the rest of this week. So apologies
- 7:55Speaker 1: for that. No film in this one, more high level discussion.
- 7:57Speaker 1: And I also thought too, coming off this loss and
- 8:00Speaker 1: the emotions around it again going back to where was
- 8:04Speaker 1: it ourjsay and this was a soul crushing loss, I
- 8:07Speaker 1: thought it'd be more fun to have this episode be
- 8:09Speaker 1: born interactive, more back and forth to each other, back
- 8:12Speaker 1: and forth with myself and you know how we normally
- 8:16Speaker 1: do here on the show. I know we still do
- 8:17Speaker 1: that from a film perspective, but I know I can't
- 8:19Speaker 1: get to as many comments and make it as engaging
- 8:21Speaker 1: when I'm going through the film and illustrating everything. So
- 8:23Speaker 1: I thought we'd make this very interactive, but I want
- 8:26Speaker 1: before we dive in everything, I do want to preface
- 8:28Speaker 1: all of this. And this isn't me being preachy or
- 8:30Speaker 1: like giving advice or policing anyone, but it's just it
- 8:34Speaker 1: is very funny to see like one thing can happen
- 8:40Speaker 1: during a win and no one cares about it, and
- 8:42Speaker 1: then the same thing happens during a loss, and it's
- 8:46Speaker 1: under a microscope and the sky is falling and everything
- 8:48Speaker 1: is terrible, and just even seeing how seeing the nature
- 8:53Speaker 1: of Joe Brady be a fan favorite one week and
- 8:55Speaker 1: everybody's laughing and joking about everybody eats and the deep
- 8:59Speaker 1: ball and all that kind of stuff and ha ha ha,
- 9:02Speaker 1: and then people are calling for his head this week,
- 9:04Speaker 1: especially after the flea flicker. The flea flicker, the lack
- 9:07Speaker 1: of you know, play action at times, and the lack
- 9:09Speaker 1: of a deep ball and the roster building. Brandon Bean's
- 9:12Speaker 1: gotta go. But the week prior it was man another
- 9:15Speaker 1: gem was found in Dorian Strong. Now it's the opposite
- 9:18Speaker 1: this week, and Brandon Bean has to get fired. The
- 9:20Speaker 1: pendulum swinging of emotions. It's not healthy from a mental
- 9:25Speaker 1: standpoint or from an emotional standpoint, but you know, teach
- 9:29Speaker 1: their own and God bless uh you know those are
- 9:32Speaker 1: you whatever side you choose, But go to dive into
- 9:34Speaker 1: the comments and then we're gonna get into the points here.
- 9:37Speaker 1: Bo I appreciate you as always cecil rocking you know,
- 9:40Speaker 1: in the future essentially, but saying yeah, it's painful loss,
- 9:44Speaker 1: and it's also two am here. I appreciate you rocking out.
- 9:48Speaker 1: DJ says it's not gonna be that bad. Guys have
- 9:50Speaker 1: hope the chat. That's fair this time, Bob said. Earlier
- 9:55Speaker 1: he says this is gonna be painful, and you need to
- 9:56Speaker 1: figure out if him having tear coffee and Seasonless said
- 9:59Speaker 1: coffee and then he said, actually vodka. That's fair. That's
- 10:02Speaker 1: fair by Bob saying, yeah, I can handle a bad game.
- 10:05Speaker 1: It's just that it was against New England. I also
- 10:07Speaker 1: think that tends to for me. It's kind of a
- 10:10Speaker 1: bit of both. Right, it's against New England, which sucks,
- 10:12Speaker 1: but division games tend to be difficult. Even if your
- 10:15Speaker 1: division sucks, there's always some team or some combination of
- 10:18Speaker 1: teams give them the familiarity. And we talked about it
- 10:21Speaker 1: a bit last week going into this game. Not only
- 10:24Speaker 1: do you have familiarity because it's Patriots for his Bills,
- 10:27Speaker 1: but Vrabel and all his experience and familiarity from his
- 10:29Speaker 1: time in Tennessee against the Bills as the head coach.
- 10:32Speaker 1: Josh McDaniels and the multitude of experience he has against
- 10:35Speaker 1: the Bills even though again different teams, different regimes, all
- 10:37Speaker 1: that kind of stuff. There's just a lot of familiarity
- 10:41Speaker 1: between Bills and Patriots and division games in general. So yeah,
- 10:43Speaker 1: it's also it's kind of relieving because it's like, eh,
- 10:46Speaker 1: you know, it's against the division team. Those games are harder,
- 10:48Speaker 1: but it's also more annoying because the division game and
- 10:50Speaker 1: it's the Patriots. Oh fair comedy from joeys saying two
- 10:55Speaker 1: straight losses of the Patriots, I definitely am in the
- 10:57Speaker 1: mood for some therapy. I forgot that they lost the
- 10:59Speaker 1: second game last year, the Joe the Joe Milton game
- 11:01Speaker 1: that got him, you know, baller status, and shipped out
- 11:04Speaker 1: to Dallas cecil saying it was a rough game, all
- 11:07Speaker 1: the mistakes in the back seven pass coverage. Anyone but Diggs.
- 11:10Speaker 1: I I'm not gonna talk about this too much, but
- 11:14Speaker 1: I do. There's been so many people kind of dancing
- 11:18Speaker 1: on the grave of Sefon Diggs and talking about how
- 11:20Speaker 1: he's washed and putting out the pictures of him, you know,
- 11:23Speaker 1: dropping that pass like the deep pass against the Chiefs
- 11:26Speaker 1: in the division around two years ago, and how bad
- 11:29Speaker 1: he's been. And I really thought that was unfairly characterizing
- 11:34Speaker 1: what he was as a player his last year with
- 11:36Speaker 1: the Bills and what he still was capable of a
- 11:39Speaker 1: play as a player. And it's just horribly and painfully
- 11:43Speaker 1: kind of poetic or and or ironic that he came
- 11:46Speaker 1: in and just balled out against the most And you
- 11:48Speaker 1: know what, he looked good for Houston last year before
- 11:52Speaker 1: he actually not before he got hurt. Yeah, no, yeah,
- 11:54Speaker 1: I mean looking for Houston before he got hurt with
- 11:57Speaker 1: the Texans. But then he was good in that game
- 11:58Speaker 1: against the Bills, and I know, people like, oh is it.
- 12:01Speaker 1: You know, he's got it out for the Bills and
- 12:03Speaker 1: he's really ratching in things up. I just think Steffan
- 12:04Speaker 1: Diggs is still a good player, and that's with him
- 12:06Speaker 1: coming off the torn a cl from last year and
- 12:08Speaker 1: still essentially kind of working his way back. But yeah,
- 12:10Speaker 1: I think that made it even more painful. Right, like
- 12:12Speaker 1: Diggs just right from the jump, balling out looking like
- 12:15Speaker 1: he had juice, a little spring in his step, pep
- 12:18Speaker 1: and his step. It's unfortunate. It's unfortunate. Bom bom bom. Joey,
- 12:24Speaker 1: you said, why didn't we double him? More than half
- 12:27Speaker 1: of May's passyards were to Diggs. I think it was
- 12:30Speaker 1: a lot of it really was. The way they were
- 12:31Speaker 1: using him. You know, you had play action tying it
- 12:34Speaker 1: into him, like selling like he's gonna run a drag
- 12:36Speaker 1: and then he pops back out and runs a whip route.
- 12:38Speaker 1: You had the really nice off script play to him,
- 12:41Speaker 1: uh where May is stiff arming Dae Kwon Jones and
- 12:45Speaker 1: May just gets it off the digs and shack Thompson
- 12:47Speaker 1: takes too shallow of it or too upfield of an angle,
- 12:49Speaker 1: Digs breaks free. You have the playoff script behind Trey
- 12:54Speaker 1: White for Diggs. You have the quick little underneath completion
- 12:58Speaker 1: to Digs on a blitz and cold Bishop misses the tackle,
- 13:01Speaker 1: and there's a lot of run after catch for him.
- 13:04Speaker 1: Aside from that, I thought a lot of you know,
- 13:06Speaker 1: the coverages worked well against him. You know, Benford had
- 13:08Speaker 1: some good reps against him in man end zone, Trey
- 13:11Speaker 1: White hads some good reps against him in man in zone.
- 13:13Speaker 1: But Diggs is still a good player. He's able to
- 13:16Speaker 1: find soft spots, he understands angles, he understands leverage, and again,
- 13:19Speaker 1: he's still got more juice than I think a lot
- 13:21Speaker 1: of Bills fans wanted to acknowledge when he essentially kind
- 13:24Speaker 1: of sent himself packing to a degree. A couple of
- 13:28Speaker 1: seasons ago, James said, even when you switch up days
- 13:33Speaker 1: in regular airtime schedules, they know these bikers, they know it.
- 13:36Speaker 1: I really do think there's just a bunch of bikers
- 13:38Speaker 1: outside just like staring at the room, like waiting for
- 13:41Speaker 1: the light to come on in my office so they
- 13:42Speaker 1: can be like, here we go, boys, and just like
- 13:44Speaker 1: rev them up and there we go. Archer saying the
- 13:49Speaker 1: team played bad, but also Sean Hockeyley hates the Bills
- 13:51Speaker 1: and hates his in all caps. It's eye popping with
- 13:53Speaker 1: the win loss record of one to five and the
- 13:56Speaker 1: penalty differentials plus twenty nine for those games. Yeah. I
- 13:58Speaker 1: also saw that Hockey was the in that game against
- 14:00Speaker 1: Philly a couple of years ago when Alan got horse
- 14:03Speaker 1: collared and they didn't call that, but they also called
- 14:06Speaker 1: Alan for intentional grounding on that same plays. I always
- 14:09Speaker 1: think like that stuff's kind of coincidental, but maybe also
- 14:11Speaker 1: not when it comes to Hockey League. Really good comment
- 14:15Speaker 1: here from Kamore, and I think this is a good
- 14:16Speaker 1: theme and something to keep it in your heads for
- 14:19Speaker 1: the entirety of this episode. I'm really going forward. It
- 14:20Speaker 1: might be cope, but thirty one other teams are still
- 14:22Speaker 1: finding their identity, and tons of other teams are finding
- 14:25Speaker 1: ways to win or lose or win slash lose with
- 14:27Speaker 1: their awards. No team good or bad, you know, maybe
- 14:31Speaker 1: excluding some teams like the Giants and even Titans or
- 14:34Speaker 1: who knows, But no team good or bad knows who
- 14:37Speaker 1: they are right now. As we just started start October,
- 14:40Speaker 1: we just got through week five. There's a ton of
- 14:42Speaker 1: football left. You really don't want to start, You really
- 14:44Speaker 1: don't not even want to, but you really don't start
- 14:46Speaker 1: hitting your stride until mid November, end in November, really
- 14:50Speaker 1: into December. Like five weeks are hugely important, even though
- 14:52Speaker 1: the Bills comes early this week after they play Atlanta
- 14:54Speaker 1: next week, which just sucks. I hate it early by
- 14:56Speaker 1: but self scouting course correction even more so with Bills,
- 15:00Speaker 1: like the multitude of injuries they've had on defense, Ogunjobi
- 15:03Speaker 1: and Hoit being out with suspension, I am still very
- 15:06Speaker 1: interested to see what the finished product quote unquote looks
- 15:09Speaker 1: like for the Bills this year. I think that also
- 15:11Speaker 1: ties into a lot of my frustrations, because I do
- 15:14Speaker 1: have issues and frustrations with this team, tying into several
- 15:18Speaker 1: pieces that I talked about all off season. But the
- 15:23Speaker 1: objective side of me and the devil's advocate side of
- 15:26Speaker 1: me knows that you know, they're sample size issues, but
- 15:28Speaker 1: also injuries and not being whole has potentially played a part,
- 15:32Speaker 1: especially on the defensive side of the ball. So it's
- 15:35Speaker 1: also frustrating to kind of analyze them at this point,
- 15:38Speaker 1: which makes me more frustrated than I'm frustrated because I
- 15:40Speaker 1: really can't get a full sense or full picture right now.
- 15:42Speaker 1: But yeah, everybody's got words. No team is perfect. Everybody
- 15:45Speaker 1: has an issue or a multitude of issues. Some are
- 15:48Speaker 1: fatal flaws, some are things you can mitigate. No team
- 15:51Speaker 1: is perfect this year, any year, all sports, any sport.
- 15:54Speaker 1: It's that's very very fair, very fair common here. Saying
- 16:00Speaker 1: take what they give you, quote unquote is just another
- 16:02Speaker 1: way of saying, do what they want you to do,
- 16:04Speaker 1: which is just dumb. I don't think that's necessarily that.
- 16:06Speaker 1: I mean, Tom Brady made a career off of taking
- 16:09Speaker 1: what they what defenses give you, and I think it's
- 16:13Speaker 1: more take what they give you in terms of if
- 16:15Speaker 1: they're giving you easy yards and completions, take those easy
- 16:18Speaker 1: yards and completions. It could be a checkdown. It could
- 16:21Speaker 1: be something in the seam, it could be something outside
- 16:25Speaker 1: the numbers, It could be a variety of things. I
- 16:27Speaker 1: think take what they give you is more of they're
- 16:30Speaker 1: playing to protect certain areas, but they're vulnerable in others.
- 16:34Speaker 1: So you keep attacking them in those areas that they're vulnerable.
- 16:37Speaker 1: But you know, teach their own with their points. Good
- 16:40Speaker 1: comment here from Cecil, and this is something we're talking
- 16:42Speaker 1: about this episode. He's just saying, the Pats have great corners.
- 16:45Speaker 1: The best thing to do is throw over the middle
- 16:46Speaker 1: to their tight ends or running backs. Yeah, we're going
- 16:48Speaker 1: to talk about kind of who the Pats are, what
- 16:50Speaker 1: the Pats are, and how that's a microcosm of things
- 16:52Speaker 1: that can give the Bills offense problems. M claud says,
- 16:59Speaker 1: three turnovers, twelve penalties, and if there's two minutes left,
- 17:01Speaker 1: I bet they win the game. The problem isn't that
- 17:03Speaker 1: they lost the game. The problem is they've been losing
- 17:05Speaker 1: this game for three straight years. Fair Aiden with a
- 17:09Speaker 1: comment of our question, are the problems in the secondary
- 17:11Speaker 1: fixable for this season? That's one of the points we're
- 17:13Speaker 1: going to get into tonight. Oh Peter says Brady needs
- 17:16Speaker 1: to get his Hubris dialed back and dial up the creativity.
- 17:19Speaker 1: You know what's funny is I wonder how many other
- 17:21Speaker 1: people echo that because he got ripped on social media
- 17:24Speaker 1: for calling that flea flicker, which I thought was creative,
- 17:27Speaker 1: especially because it was built off of that blast count
- 17:29Speaker 1: or yf that I really like that they've been running
- 17:33Speaker 1: and they went with it early. They've run the ball
- 17:35Speaker 1: straight up with it twenty one personnel offset or strong
- 17:38Speaker 1: eye formation, send pause in that blast motion, bring gillium.
- 17:44Speaker 1: Oh that's been really nice. And they showed that and
- 17:48Speaker 1: ran a flea flicker out of it, which I thought was,
- 17:50Speaker 1: you know, a nice little layering piece to that run.
- 17:55Speaker 1: But yeah, a lot of people rip Brady for that,
- 17:56Speaker 1: compared it to the flea flicker against Baltimore last year
- 17:59Speaker 1: and how bad that went. Then the Bills ran that
- 18:01Speaker 1: blast counter why have traditionally a couple times later in
- 18:03Speaker 1: the game of the patch just snuffed it out, But
- 18:04Speaker 1: they snuffed the runout a ton in this game, which
- 18:06Speaker 1: we're going to talk about. DJ says, I don't buy
- 18:10Speaker 1: the Patriots as contenders. Let them win at least three
- 18:14Speaker 1: or four straight. That's fair, Okay, okay, okay. Connor saying
- 18:18Speaker 1: it's only one game, but some of the things in
- 18:19Speaker 1: this game looked really, really bad. That's fair. Oh, Joe
- 18:29Speaker 1: says it's eerily similar to the Ken Dorsey discourse from
- 18:31Speaker 1: two seasons ago, not comparing the two at all, but
- 18:33Speaker 1: feels like there are constants for oc quote unquote evaluation
- 18:37Speaker 1: that people run to in a bad game. Yeah. I
- 18:40Speaker 1: think that's super fair Joe. For the record, and I
- 18:42Speaker 1: think most of you who watch the show regularly know,
- 18:44Speaker 1: I think a lot of blame got laid at Ken
- 18:46Speaker 1: Dorsey's feet that was not necessarily his fault. I think
- 18:49Speaker 1: Ken Dorsey was better than he got credit for. I
- 18:53Speaker 1: also don't think Joe Brady is as immaculate and it
- 18:56Speaker 1: is as amazing as a lot of people make him
- 18:59Speaker 1: out to be, though I do think he's good and
- 19:01Speaker 1: I do like his fit here. I do think there
- 19:02Speaker 1: are certain qualms that I have with Brady, but it's
- 19:07Speaker 1: always that nothing is ever holistically bad or good. But yeah,
- 19:11Speaker 1: it's funny how people run to the kind of the
- 19:12Speaker 1: same mediums or the same it's the same type of
- 19:16Speaker 1: lightning rods to kind of channel their frustration and anger
- 19:19Speaker 1: when things happen. Well said James, your commitment in the
- 19:27Speaker 1: chat to the motorcycle bit. I like it. I like
- 19:29Speaker 1: it a lot. I like it a lot. Comment here
- 19:34Speaker 1: and talk me off the ledge. What do the analytics
- 19:36Speaker 1: say about our receiver separation. I'm gonna lead off with
- 19:38Speaker 1: this in a minute, So stay tuned. We're gonna go
- 19:41Speaker 1: We're gonna go through that. We're gonna start it off
- 19:44Speaker 1: ba ba ba. By commenting from Andrew, Andrew, you said
- 19:51Speaker 1: most of the bill's content creators were all saying he
- 19:53Speaker 1: was washed in the back half of twenty twenty three.
- 19:55Speaker 1: Or who are we talking? Are we talking about? I'm
- 19:57Speaker 1: trying to figure out this is at nine to twelve
- 19:59Speaker 1: eight minutes talking about Diggs. I'm guessing you're talking about Diggs.
- 20:03Speaker 1: I personally was not. I was not saying he was washed.
- 20:06Speaker 1: But to each their own, Oh, I disagree with this,
- 20:11Speaker 1: Connor saint Man, Diggs was always a first half of
- 20:13Speaker 1: the season type of player. No, I disagree, and I
- 20:16Speaker 1: don't want to make this a Digs episode. But that
- 20:19Speaker 1: back half of twenty twenty three, he's still showing a
- 20:22Speaker 1: lot of juice. I mean, he showed up big in
- 20:23Speaker 1: that game in Miami for them to win the division
- 20:26Speaker 1: and beat Miami in Miami the last game of the
- 20:28Speaker 1: regular season. He still had a bunch of juice that year.
- 20:32Speaker 1: I know everybody kind of rote him off and the
- 20:33Speaker 1: whole everybody eats thing and it tied in. I disagree
- 20:37Speaker 1: with this, but again to each their own. What else?
- 20:45Speaker 1: What else? What else? Well, there's a lot of come
- 20:47Speaker 1: I should have known. There's a lot of comments. I
- 20:48Speaker 1: feel like I made the mistake of going so a
- 20:50Speaker 1: comment heavy. All right, I see a lot of them. Okay,
- 20:52Speaker 1: let's start with the first points here for kind of
- 20:58Speaker 1: separating the real from the fake for the twenty twenty
- 21:03Speaker 1: five Buffalo Bills. And I just realized a little peak
- 21:05Speaker 1: behind the curtain. I didn't create like a banner for
- 21:09Speaker 1: the bottom there. So there, let's stow that up there
- 21:12Speaker 1: so it matches. The first thing we're gonna start off
- 21:14Speaker 1: with related a little bit to some receiver separation metrics.
- 21:20Speaker 1: I want to talk about the Bills deep ball. I'm
- 21:22Speaker 1: gonna start out with metrics. We're gonna have a conversation
- 21:25Speaker 1: about it. Questions, thoughts, commons, concern has always put him
- 21:27Speaker 1: into the chape. We're gonna start out with the Bills
- 21:29Speaker 1: deep ball. I tweeted these out on What's Day Tuesday.
- 21:32Speaker 1: I tweeted these out yesterday. Josh Allen in twenty twenty
- 21:36Speaker 1: five on deep throws And for those who don't know
- 21:39Speaker 1: deep throws deep ball, those are quantified as throws of
- 21:42Speaker 1: twenty or more air yards. So Josh Allen in twenty
- 21:45Speaker 1: twenty five on deep throws. This is out of thirty
- 21:48Speaker 1: three quarterbacks. He's twelfth in attempts, but the attempts are
- 21:54Speaker 1: kind of more volume based. Obviously, He's twelfth in attempts,
- 21:56Speaker 1: but twenty fourth in EPA for drop back, twenty second
- 22:00Speaker 1: in EPA second in time to throw at four point
- 22:03Speaker 1: one to eight seconds. That means he's holding the ball
- 22:05Speaker 1: a while twenty eighth in average target separation at one
- 22:09Speaker 1: point four yards twenty seventh and rating at forty nine
- 22:12Speaker 1: point nine, twenty fourth in yards per attempt not like
- 22:16Speaker 1: averaged up the target yards per attempt, that means like
- 22:18Speaker 1: completions and completions like average yards per attempt whatever. The
- 22:21Speaker 1: result is twenty fourth at ten point one and he's
- 22:25Speaker 1: ninth in completion rate over expected at plus five point
- 22:29Speaker 1: two percent. Now let's go to twenty twenty four again,
- 22:34Speaker 1: Josh Allen deep throws twenty or more air yards last
- 22:37Speaker 1: season out of thirty five qualifying quarterbacks, So this time
- 22:40Speaker 1: thirty five twenty twenty five right now was thirty three
- 22:43Speaker 1: twenty twenty four, there was thirty five qualifying qbs. He
- 22:47Speaker 1: was second in attempts and third in deep throw rate
- 22:51Speaker 1: at thirteen point seven percent twenty first in EPA per dropback,
- 22:56Speaker 1: sixteenth in EPA, first in time to throw at four
- 23:00Speaker 1: point two one seconds, twenty eighth in average target separation
- 23:05Speaker 1: at one point six twenty ninth and rating at sixty
- 23:08Speaker 1: nine point six twenty eighth in yards per attempt at
- 23:10Speaker 1: ten point five and a significantly worse completion rate over
- 23:14Speaker 1: expected at negative one point four percent, So so big
- 23:18Speaker 1: numbers to take away there, right, and especially from similarity perspective.
- 23:21Speaker 1: He's second in time to throw on deep passes this
- 23:23Speaker 1: year at four point one eight seconds. He was first
- 23:26Speaker 1: in the league last year at four point two to one,
- 23:29Speaker 1: so extremely high. Top two this year, first last year,
- 23:33Speaker 1: four point one eighth this year four point two to
- 23:35Speaker 1: one last year, so roughly the same kind of thing
- 23:38Speaker 1: towards the bottom of the league and average target separation
- 23:40Speaker 1: on deep throws last year and this year twenty eighth,
- 23:42Speaker 1: this year twenty eighth, last year one point six, last
- 23:46Speaker 1: year one point four. Average target separation in terms of
- 23:50Speaker 1: yards this year. Completion rate over expected big difference there
- 23:54Speaker 1: again ninth this year at plus five point two percent,
- 23:56Speaker 1: twenty third last year negative one point four. So completion
- 23:59Speaker 1: percentage over expected or completion rate over perspective or over
- 24:02Speaker 1: expecting case you don't know essentially is you know they're
- 24:05Speaker 1: calculating of those throws that are made, how often are
- 24:08Speaker 1: they being completed. That's the baseline. How often you're completing
- 24:12Speaker 1: those throws in those similar situations, plus or minus whatever
- 24:16Speaker 1: it is, right, So for someone who doesn't have a
- 24:18Speaker 1: lot of average target separation and a higher completion rate
- 24:21Speaker 1: over expected, that means someone's really on point with their throws.
- 24:25Speaker 1: Someone who has a lower completion rate over expected or
- 24:29Speaker 1: completion percentage over expected, someone who's got guys open, they're
- 24:32Speaker 1: not making the throws. Now what I want to say,
- 24:34Speaker 1: So there's those numbers. I want to say several things
- 24:38Speaker 1: on the deep ball because, like I mentioned, I tweeted
- 24:42Speaker 1: something about this during the Miami game and after the
- 24:44Speaker 1: Miami game, and I talked about it all offseason, the
- 24:46Speaker 1: need for verticality in this offense and why it was
- 24:49Speaker 1: needed for the past game, but more importantly, why it
- 24:50Speaker 1: was needed to supplement the run game or help the
- 24:52Speaker 1: run game and prevent defenses from kind of doing what
- 24:56Speaker 1: I think they're going to end up doing based on
- 24:58Speaker 1: how the season goes. But I want to say this,
- 25:00Speaker 1: So the struggles and the numbers you see there, right,
- 25:03Speaker 1: So not good numbers for EPA per dropback, not good
- 25:07Speaker 1: in terms of total EPA, not good in rating, you know,
- 25:10Speaker 1: not great in yards per attempt, all that kind of stuff, right,
- 25:14Speaker 1: The struggles were a combination of things. One, going back
- 25:17Speaker 1: even to twenty twenty three. The reason I didn't include
- 25:19Speaker 1: the twenty twenty three numbers is because Dorsey got fired
- 25:22Speaker 1: Joe Brady took over. Even though Brady was running the show,
- 25:25Speaker 1: it was still Ken Dorsey's offense. So I wanted to
- 25:28Speaker 1: include the two years that were holistically Joe Brady. That's
- 25:31Speaker 1: why we did twenty twenty four and twenty twenty five.
- 25:33Speaker 1: But going back to even twenty twenty three, if you
- 25:36Speaker 1: want to take the last three years or two in
- 25:37Speaker 1: a quarter, with where we are in twenty twenty five,
- 25:40Speaker 1: Josh Allen hasn't been very sharp with the deep ball.
- 25:43Speaker 1: That was part of my ironically or not part of
- 25:46Speaker 1: my argument with Stefon Diggs or defending Stefon Diggs in
- 25:51Speaker 1: twenty twenty three, because everybody was dragging in for that
- 25:54Speaker 1: drop against the Chiefs, but nobody seemed to drag Allen
- 25:58Speaker 1: at all for all the overthrows and underthrows to Digs
- 26:02Speaker 1: throughout that season. There were a multitude of games against
- 26:04Speaker 1: the Jags against the Patriots where Diggs was beating guys
- 26:08Speaker 1: over the top end was open and Alan was either
- 26:10Speaker 1: overthrowing him. I'm talking like three four yards type of
- 26:13Speaker 1: separation where Alan was overthrowing him for incompletions or Alan
- 26:17Speaker 1: was underthrowing it and Diggs was having to come back
- 26:19Speaker 1: to the ball. He really fixed his deep ball issue,
- 26:22Speaker 1: so it really fell off the last like several years,
- 26:25Speaker 1: and then we obviously have the numbers from twenty twenty
- 26:26Speaker 1: four and twenty twenty five. Now he's also been banged
- 26:29Speaker 1: up a bit these past several years, especially in the arm,
- 26:32Speaker 1: So I don't know if that type of angle, that
- 26:34Speaker 1: type of trajectory, the torque that he has to put
- 26:37Speaker 1: on the deep ball, maybe he was having physical discomfort.
- 26:39Speaker 1: There's a multitude of variables that could be the reason.
- 26:41Speaker 1: But again we're trying to figure out we're talking here about, like, oh,
- 26:44Speaker 1: you know, struggles with the deep ball. One piece of it. Again,
- 26:47Speaker 1: it's not one holistic thing. It's not all on Alan,
- 26:50Speaker 1: it's not all on Brady, it's not all on the receivers.
- 26:52Speaker 1: It's a multitude of various pieces, right, But it starts
- 26:55Speaker 1: off with Alan just being a bit off going deep
- 27:00Speaker 1: last year and this year, but again focusing on this
- 27:02Speaker 1: year too. Josh Allen doesn't have burners at wide receiver,
- 27:06Speaker 1: which I'm sure everyone knows and everyone's talking about at
- 27:08Speaker 1: this point now, right, you don't have these traditional field
- 27:11Speaker 1: stretchers at the wide receiver position, especially at the top
- 27:15Speaker 1: of the depth chart. If your argument is yeah, well,
- 27:17Speaker 1: like Elijah Moore can fly or Curtis Samuel can fly,
- 27:21Speaker 1: I recognize what both of their time speeds are. I've
- 27:24Speaker 1: said this really for the past couple of years. I
- 27:26Speaker 1: don't think Curtis Samuel plays as fast as as forty
- 27:29Speaker 1: times indicates. I think he has some juice. I don't
- 27:31Speaker 1: think he's this straight up field stretcher, though he can
- 27:34Speaker 1: get vertical. Elijah Moore, I think is in a similar boat.
- 27:36Speaker 1: I think he's more stop start quickness and bursty than
- 27:39Speaker 1: he is a field stretcher. But even with those two guys, right,
- 27:43Speaker 1: Curtis Samuel and Elijah Moore are not your top of
- 27:47Speaker 1: the depth chart wide receivers. Your top of the depth
- 27:50Speaker 1: chart wide receivers are Josh Palmer, Kean Coleman, Khalis Shakir.
- 27:55Speaker 1: Shakira is awesome. Not a field stretcher. And again I
- 27:58Speaker 1: say all this to say like is like horrible negatives, like, well,
- 28:02Speaker 1: this guy is in fest this guy isn't a burner.
- 28:03Speaker 1: This guy is in a field stretcher. That's not necessarily awful.
- 28:07Speaker 1: It is what it is. It's what their skill sets are.
- 28:08Speaker 1: Shakir is not a downfield like burner. He's not a
- 28:11Speaker 1: field stretcher. He's a separator from a route running perspective,
- 28:15Speaker 1: and he's like a running back. Once he gets the
- 28:16Speaker 1: ball in his hands, he is secure, hands, tough yards,
- 28:20Speaker 1: run after catch, physical, elusive contact. Balance. Dude is awesome, right,
- 28:27Speaker 1: Kean Coleman enough said, not a field stretcher, not a burner.
- 28:31Speaker 1: If he's making plays vertical, it's because the ball's getting
- 28:34Speaker 1: thrown up for a jump ball snare, or it's a
- 28:36Speaker 1: back shoulder throw, and he is playing like a power
- 28:39Speaker 1: forward downfield. He's scraping rebounds off the glass, or he's
- 28:42Speaker 1: using his size and frame and athleticism to win. It's
- 28:46Speaker 1: not him outrunning dudes, it's him twenty twenty five yards downfield,
- 28:51Speaker 1: kind of in lockstep with someone and Alan putting in
- 28:53Speaker 1: the spot where Kean can go up and make a play.
- 28:56Speaker 1: And then there's Josh Palmer, who I like coming into
- 28:59Speaker 1: this season. I still do like him. I think he's
- 29:01Speaker 1: a nice complimentary piece in making the receiver room hole.
- 29:05Speaker 1: I do think the contract was a bit rich, but
- 29:08Speaker 1: also that's kind of what the market value was too too.
- 29:10Speaker 1: At Well got a one year, ten million dollars deal
- 29:12Speaker 1: with the Rams. The wide receiver market is just kind
- 29:14Speaker 1: of booming a bit with what you're paying for, So unfortunately,
- 29:17Speaker 1: I think the Bills had to dip a little bit
- 29:19Speaker 1: more into the fund in order to bring Josh Palmer in.
- 29:22Speaker 1: But what I said all off season, I said it
- 29:25Speaker 1: on social I said it here. Josh Palmer can win vertical,
- 29:29Speaker 1: but when he does, it's usually due to the scheme
- 29:32Speaker 1: or the concept or his deception in his routes and
- 29:35Speaker 1: in his stems. He is very good at deceiving defenders,
- 29:39Speaker 1: especially a man coverage, with his stem work, making you
- 29:43Speaker 1: think he's going out when he's going in, making you
- 29:45Speaker 1: think he's gonna throttle down when he keeps going, making you,
- 29:47Speaker 1: you know, stacking you, and making you think he's going
- 29:49Speaker 1: outside then inside, or inside then outside. He has a
- 29:51Speaker 1: really good feel for leverage. He's a good route runner,
- 29:55Speaker 1: but he's a separator and I've labeled him all off
- 29:58Speaker 1: season he's a separator underneath in the intermediate. I know
- 30:01Speaker 1: a lot of people were thrown out the metrics for
- 30:03Speaker 1: him in this offseason. There was certain things that were
- 30:05Speaker 1: saying that like he was like the fourth best deep
- 30:08Speaker 1: threat last year or over his career with the Chargers.
- 30:10Speaker 1: A whole bunch of data that was like, man, he's
- 30:12Speaker 1: a burner. He's a great deep threat, and I think
- 30:15Speaker 1: the data was being conflated with him being a field
- 30:19Speaker 1: stretcher in the traditional sense. And if you go back
- 30:22Speaker 1: and watch the tape, you know, especially from twenty twenty four,
- 30:26Speaker 1: his deep targets are him if he's winning or he's
- 30:29Speaker 1: getting opened downfield, it's either with you know, deception, it's
- 30:32Speaker 1: like a double move or him kind of you know
- 30:34Speaker 1: a stutter go and getting past somebody, or it's off
- 30:39Speaker 1: of you know, a blown coverage. You know there's one.
- 30:41Speaker 1: The one that comes to mind immediately form is the
- 30:42Speaker 1: one against Cleveland. Denzel Ward is on him and for
- 30:47Speaker 1: whatever reason, Denzel Ward like just lets him go. His
- 30:50Speaker 1: eyes are in the backfield. He starts to kind of
- 30:52Speaker 1: throttle down a bit, and Palmer just burns past him
- 30:55Speaker 1: and is wide open in the front of the end
- 30:57Speaker 1: zone for like a thirty or forty yard touchdown pass
- 30:59Speaker 1: from just and Herbert because it's just a blown assignment. Again,
- 31:02Speaker 1: Palmer puts himself in those scenarios. This isn't to take
- 31:05Speaker 1: anything away from him, but I say all that to
- 31:07Speaker 1: say as another part of you know, struggles deep. The
- 31:11Speaker 1: Bills don't have a true field stretcher or deep threat
- 31:14Speaker 1: in the traditional sense. And again, even if you want
- 31:16Speaker 1: to say that Samuel is that guy and or Elijah
- 31:19Speaker 1: Moore is that guy, those aren't the top of the
- 31:21Speaker 1: depth chart wide receivers. Those are the guys who are
- 31:24Speaker 1: more specialized potentially, And if you have guys that are
- 31:28Speaker 1: specialized with that skill set. When you put them in
- 31:30Speaker 1: the game, it's a potential tendency giveaway, it's a potential tell.
- 31:34Speaker 1: So if you have verticality or field stretching ability, and
- 31:36Speaker 1: the guys at the top of your depth chart, those
- 31:38Speaker 1: guys that are seeing more snaps and regular snaps, who
- 31:42Speaker 1: knows what they're going to do on this play? Are
- 31:43Speaker 1: they going to block? Are they going to run a screen?
- 31:46Speaker 1: Are they gonna run a drag? Are they gonna run
- 31:47Speaker 1: a cross? Or is it going to be a nine?
- 31:49Speaker 1: Is it going to be a post? Is it going
- 31:50Speaker 1: to be a hitch? Is it going to be an out?
- 31:51Speaker 1: There's more things you have to account Whereas if you
- 31:55Speaker 1: put Curtis Samuel in there and it's a tight, condensed formation,
- 31:59Speaker 1: your alarm bells going off of the defense and being like,
- 32:01Speaker 1: all right, man, here comes a shot, like keep an
- 32:03Speaker 1: eye out for the shot, like community like communicate, watch out,
- 32:06Speaker 1: let's see. Is he gonna push verticals? Is he gonna
- 32:07Speaker 1: run the post? He's gonna try and run away from us?
- 32:09Speaker 1: In some regard right now, you can still do things
- 32:12Speaker 1: off of that as an offensive coordinator and play designer.
- 32:14Speaker 1: Right it's all the chess match that is football, Like
- 32:18Speaker 1: we know that they know that, we know what they know.
- 32:21Speaker 1: So then it's kind of like, Okay, you think we're
- 32:23Speaker 1: gonna send Samuel deep. Okay, we're gonna send him on
- 32:25Speaker 1: something that looks like he's going deep. We're gonna send
- 32:27Speaker 1: him on a vertical stem, but he's gonna hitch up
- 32:29Speaker 1: at nine, or we're gonna send him across the field
- 32:31Speaker 1: like he's running to drag and he's gonna put his
- 32:33Speaker 1: foot in the ground and want to run a whip
- 32:34Speaker 1: rout and pop back outside like he did on that
- 32:36Speaker 1: first third down conversion against the Saints last week. So
- 32:38Speaker 1: there are ways around it. There is some mitigation, but holistically,
- 32:42Speaker 1: when you look at this wide receiver room, it's not
- 32:44Speaker 1: a group of burners or field stretchers and the guys
- 32:47Speaker 1: that do have that skill set or that trait that element.
- 32:51Speaker 1: It's more the bottom of the depth chart guys. So again,
- 32:54Speaker 1: combination of struggles with the deep ball. It's alan being
- 32:56Speaker 1: a bit off the past several years. It's not having
- 32:59Speaker 1: traditional burners or field stretchers or deep threats at wide receiver.
- 33:02Speaker 1: That's two points. The third point I think Josh Allen
- 33:07Speaker 1: has made a conscious decision to be more efficient and
- 33:10Speaker 1: take care of the ball. Whether it's direction from Joe Brady,
- 33:14Speaker 1: whether it's direction from Allen himself, whether it's because he
- 33:18Speaker 1: did that podcast or whatever with Tom Brady a little
- 33:21Speaker 1: bit in the and Brady talking to him about taking
- 33:25Speaker 1: the profit and I was always checking it down and
- 33:27Speaker 1: I was doing this and taking what the defense gave me.
- 33:30Speaker 1: Or if it's Alan, you know, he mentioned it in
- 33:33Speaker 1: the little clip with the mccordy during the Sunday night
- 33:36Speaker 1: game where he talked about all the interceptions he threw
- 33:38Speaker 1: against New England in twenty eighteen or whatever. He was like, oh,
- 33:40Speaker 1: maybe it's me, and he decided to rain himself in
- 33:42Speaker 1: a little bit. I think he's made more of a
- 33:44Speaker 1: conscious decision to be more efficient with the ball, take
- 33:48Speaker 1: care of the ball, take what the defense gives him,
- 33:51Speaker 1: keep this offense on track, Lean into the run game,
- 33:54Speaker 1: lean into his athleticism, take the explosives if they come
- 33:57Speaker 1: with play action or you know, RPO runs with pass
- 34:01Speaker 1: tags and again, all of this idea of taking the
- 34:03Speaker 1: profit and having these easy buttons. I think he's made
- 34:06Speaker 1: more of a conscious decision to be more efficient and
- 34:08Speaker 1: take care of the ball. Deep ball throws are inherently
- 34:11Speaker 1: low percentage, and they're much lower than throwing the ball
- 34:14Speaker 1: to Shakir on first down for a five yard hitch.
- 34:16Speaker 1: There's been some opens opens, There's been some routes that
- 34:20Speaker 1: have been opened deep and Allen doesn't even get to
- 34:23Speaker 1: them because he sees someone come open at six and
- 34:26Speaker 1: he's like, oh cool, I'm taking the six. Now. Could
- 34:28Speaker 1: he have held the ball another half second to a
- 34:31Speaker 1: second and take taking the shot for twenty five or
- 34:33Speaker 1: maybe thirty? Sure, but depending on the down and distance situation,
- 34:36Speaker 1: he's going to take six yards on first and ten,
- 34:38Speaker 1: and then you're in second and four, and you've got
- 34:40Speaker 1: this great run game. You could probably run for five
- 34:42Speaker 1: or six yards on second down, or at worst run
- 34:44Speaker 1: for three, and then it's third and one and then
- 34:46Speaker 1: you can push the pile on third down and get
- 34:47Speaker 1: the first down. He's become very good at keeping this
- 34:51Speaker 1: offense on track and on schedule, and I think not
- 34:57Speaker 1: in a negative way. I think that comes when if
- 35:00Speaker 1: you can't be the deep shot, want blood type of
- 35:03Speaker 1: guy and necessarily be the efficient, keep everybody on task
- 35:06Speaker 1: and on track type of guy, it's hard to balance
- 35:09Speaker 1: that Yin and that Yang. So I think some of
- 35:12Speaker 1: it is Alan being off deep. I think some of
- 35:14Speaker 1: it is not having traditional burners or field stretchers a
- 35:16Speaker 1: wide receiver. I think some of it is Alan making
- 35:18Speaker 1: conscious decisions to be more efficient and take care of
- 35:21Speaker 1: the ball. I wanted to go back to where is this,
- 35:24Speaker 1: Captain with the question you're saying, I'm sorry, I'm confused.
- 35:26Speaker 1: Are we putting the deep ball or lack thereof? And
- 35:28Speaker 1: the real concerns or fake concerns bucket, I think this
- 35:30Speaker 1: is absolutely a real concern. Sorry, I should have loved
- 35:33Speaker 1: with that. Good call. Thank you for that question. I
- 35:35Speaker 1: think this is absolutely a real concern. Now, one thing
- 35:39Speaker 1: I want to talk about because two of the points
- 35:40Speaker 1: that I mentioned, two of the data points that I
- 35:42Speaker 1: mentioned with the deep ball metrics that I read off
- 35:45Speaker 1: were around target separation. I want to briefly talk about
- 35:49Speaker 1: separation data. So, again, even just in saying that target separation,
- 35:54Speaker 1: this is only counting separation for players that are targeted.
- 35:58Speaker 1: It's not measuring a guy that runs a great route
- 36:00Speaker 1: and separates but doesn't get the ball because the QB
- 36:03Speaker 1: went elsewhere or because the QB got pressured and had
- 36:06Speaker 1: to evade, or it doesn't measure if the ball is
- 36:09Speaker 1: coming out on time, a receiver could run their route
- 36:12Speaker 1: and win and separate, but the quarterback is late, so
- 36:15Speaker 1: then at the time of the target, the defender has
- 36:17Speaker 1: gotten closer and maybe there's a half yard difference or
- 36:20Speaker 1: a full yard difference depending on the corner that they're playing.
- 36:23Speaker 1: So it doesn't take that into account. It doesn't take
- 36:24Speaker 1: into account what the coverage is. So it can be
- 36:26Speaker 1: a reference, but I don't think it should be an
- 36:30Speaker 1: end all be all. I think we've gotten so obsessed
- 36:36Speaker 1: with target separation and did separation and data and data
- 36:39Speaker 1: and trying to trying to well, trying to quantify it.
- 36:43Speaker 1: I think the tape is the best way to quantify it.
- 36:46Speaker 1: I think when you look at the tape, you have
- 36:48Speaker 1: guys that can separate. I do think tying back into
- 36:51Speaker 1: this New England game, if you are facing teams that
- 36:54Speaker 1: have good and or athletic corners on the outside, this
- 36:57Speaker 1: is the same thing I said last year. There they
- 37:00Speaker 1: can give the Bills problems because they can go Cover one,
- 37:02Speaker 1: which is man coverage, single high, or they can go
- 37:04Speaker 1: Cover three, which is zone single high, but can essentially
- 37:07Speaker 1: still play out like one on one on the outside,
- 37:09Speaker 1: because your dudes are on islands. Teams with good or
- 37:11Speaker 1: athletic corners are gonna play single high. They're gonna try
- 37:14Speaker 1: and muddy the run, and they're gonna trust their corners
- 37:16Speaker 1: to win on the outside versus the Bills wide receivers
- 37:18Speaker 1: and Christian Gonzalez is awesome. Carlton Davis is a strong
- 37:24Speaker 1: number two corner. They had dudes who played well on
- 37:28Speaker 1: the outside. Now the Bill still had some guys that
- 37:30Speaker 1: created some separation on some play. You know, a penalty
- 37:33Speaker 1: that took a play away. Tyrrel Shavers, broke down Christian
- 37:38Speaker 1: Gonzalez really nice on an inbreaker on like a ten
- 37:40Speaker 1: yard in broke him down, faked, crossed over, separated, really nice.
- 37:44Speaker 1: Josh Palmer separated versus Carlton Davis. Early in the game,
- 37:47Speaker 1: ball went elsewhere, Alan got pressured, stepped up, ended up,
- 37:50Speaker 1: hitting kinkate. There's a multitude of things that go into
- 37:56Speaker 1: separation metrics and separation data. I do think Palm is
- 38:00Speaker 1: a good separator underneath in the in the intermediate. I
- 38:02Speaker 1: don't think he's this burner or this vertical threat. I
- 38:05Speaker 1: think the best way for the Bills to create chunk
- 38:07Speaker 1: plays in the past game and win deep is to
- 38:10Speaker 1: get Dalton Kincaid matched up against linebackers and safeties. I
- 38:13Speaker 1: think that's the best way because they just don't have
- 38:15Speaker 1: the field stretching element at wide receiver. That's kind of
- 38:19Speaker 1: my thought now. I say all that to say why
- 38:23Speaker 1: I think it's a concern or a real concern at
- 38:27Speaker 1: some point, not every week, because again the Bills. The
- 38:31Speaker 1: Bills are a good football team. They're going to be
- 38:34Speaker 1: a contender for the AFC. They're good, They're a good club,
- 38:37Speaker 1: They're a good squad. Right, at some point when you
- 38:41Speaker 1: play the better teams or teams that can give you
- 38:43Speaker 1: problems in some way, like the Patriots did with how
- 38:45Speaker 1: they're built right, good run defense, physical upfront, some studs
- 38:50Speaker 1: on their defensive line, plus good athletic corners that are
- 38:53Speaker 1: cool running one on one or living on islands. Right,
- 38:57Speaker 1: at some point, things are going to continue to get
- 39:01Speaker 1: tighter and get constricted if you don't win deep. I
- 39:05Speaker 1: don't think they have to be you know, an Al
- 39:07Speaker 1: Davis dream offense or the air Coriel Chargers from back
- 39:10Speaker 1: in the day where they're chucking it downfield. I don't
- 39:13Speaker 1: think Josh Allen's averaged at the target on deep balls
- 39:16Speaker 1: needs to be like thirty five yards. I don't think
- 39:18Speaker 1: they need to necessarily increase the rate, but they do
- 39:21Speaker 1: have to start winning deep at some point. I think
- 39:22Speaker 1: it's awesome that they've started to win in the intermediate
- 39:27Speaker 1: with some passes. Again, I said something very similar to
- 39:29Speaker 1: this during the Miami game. At some point you got
- 39:31Speaker 1: to hit those deep shots. It is nice to see
- 39:33Speaker 1: the intermediate shots and successes coming, especially to Kincaid, especially
- 39:37Speaker 1: off play action and how that ties into the run game.
- 39:40Speaker 1: But they got to get some semblance of verticality in
- 39:43Speaker 1: this offense or defense. Is essentially they're going to continue
- 39:46Speaker 1: to creep up, creep up, and squeeze this offense and
- 39:50Speaker 1: make things tighter for this offense. And you want that
- 39:53Speaker 1: as an offense. That's part of what having an awesome
- 39:55Speaker 1: run game will do. You want to win fight the
- 39:58Speaker 1: defense forward. You want them to been single high and
- 40:00Speaker 1: be like you gotta walk a safety down, or you
- 40:03Speaker 1: gotta run, blitz and attack us, because then you can
- 40:06Speaker 1: kill him deep. You want to invite them forward to
- 40:09Speaker 1: stop the run and then kill them deep. But if
- 40:12Speaker 1: you don't, everything will get constricted because they're going to
- 40:15Speaker 1: start to have bodies for the run, and everything is
- 40:17Speaker 1: gonna get tight. And if the Bills can't run the ball,
- 40:19Speaker 1: or they struggle to run the ball, that's when things
- 40:22Speaker 1: get a little hairy. Because despite the fact that I
- 40:24Speaker 1: like the composition of this wide receiver room, I like
- 40:27Speaker 1: it for an offense that is built on formation, particularly
- 40:31Speaker 1: particularly condensed formations, and that wins with alignment. I don't
- 40:35Speaker 1: think this Bill's wide receiver room and pass catching group
- 40:38Speaker 1: is built to chuck it thirty to forty times a
- 40:40Speaker 1: game then spread it out. I don't think that's who
- 40:42Speaker 1: they are. They're built around the run. They are built
- 40:44Speaker 1: on making life easy for Josh Allen and allowing him
- 40:47Speaker 1: to you know, Okay, it's been a pretty easy game.
- 40:50Speaker 1: Oh I gotta you know, I gotta go be a
- 40:51Speaker 1: mutant for a play. Okay, cool, I can do that.
- 40:53Speaker 1: Oh I gotta do it with my legs or my
- 40:55Speaker 1: arm or both. Okay, cool, I can do that because
- 40:57Speaker 1: the whole game has been put on my shoulders. That's
- 40:59Speaker 1: not what They're not built again, to chucking around. This
- 41:02Speaker 1: isn't the day ball offense from twenty twenty, where they're
- 41:05Speaker 1: flinging it forty times a game, and Allen's throwing for
- 41:07Speaker 1: three hundred and fifty to four hundred yards, and you
- 41:10Speaker 1: know there's Gigs and Beasley and Brown and there's multitude
- 41:14Speaker 1: of weapons. That's not what this offense is. So I
- 41:17Speaker 1: think the deep ball is a concern purely from the
- 41:19Speaker 1: perspective of until they show that they can win with it,
- 41:23Speaker 1: especially deepen on the outside or just threaten people deep
- 41:26Speaker 1: in general, and start to hit those shots. Eventually, at
- 41:31Speaker 1: some point, teams are going to creep up and creep
- 41:33Speaker 1: up and creep up. And it might not matter against
- 41:36Speaker 1: some of the worst or the lackluster teams they play
- 41:40Speaker 1: on the schedule, but it's probably gonna matter in the playoffs,
- 41:43Speaker 1: and it might matter in the wildcard round if they're
- 41:45Speaker 1: in the wildcard. It might matter in the division round.
- 41:47Speaker 1: It might matter in the AFC Championship. I've been saying
- 41:49Speaker 1: all this purely from the perspective of the goal for
- 41:51Speaker 1: this team is to win a Super Bowl. Right, If
- 41:56Speaker 1: you don't have that aspect to your game, the better
- 41:59Speaker 1: team that you're going to play in theory, in the
- 42:02Speaker 1: playoffs and or in the Super Bowl are going to
- 42:05Speaker 1: be able to constrict the run, and then what do
- 42:08Speaker 1: you do. Then? Are you like, Okay, now we gotta
- 42:11Speaker 1: win deep But if you haven't all year, you got
- 42:13Speaker 1: to be able to keep the wolves at bay a
- 42:15Speaker 1: little bit. I think they can. I think it's just
- 42:19Speaker 1: got to change some things up a little bit. I
- 42:20Speaker 1: think it starts with Allen just getting a little bit
- 42:22Speaker 1: better with his deep ball accuracy and making more of
- 42:24Speaker 1: a conscious decision to attack with some verticality. But on
- 42:28Speaker 1: the other side of the coin, it's tough when you
- 42:30Speaker 1: don't have guys that are separating a ton deep from
- 42:32Speaker 1: a target perspective. But the intermediate shots kincaid or a
- 42:37Speaker 1: real boon, I think that does a good job in
- 42:39Speaker 1: mitigating some of the quote unquote true deep ball twenty
- 42:43Speaker 1: plus air yard throws. I don't think that means this
- 42:46Speaker 1: is the death sentence for the offense. I don't think
- 42:48Speaker 1: this means the offense is screwed. I just think they
- 42:51Speaker 1: need that element that's part of their offense, because then
- 42:56Speaker 1: you get to almost about as complete as you can be.
- 42:59Speaker 1: Right if you have a quarterback that's efficient and willing
- 43:02Speaker 1: to take what the defense gives you, but it's also
- 43:04Speaker 1: able to work the intermediate and is also able to
- 43:07Speaker 1: hit some deep shots. And then on top of that,
- 43:09Speaker 1: you have a really strong run game and a really
- 43:10Speaker 1: good running back. What do you do? What do you defend?
- 43:15Speaker 1: If you are the defense, And again, as with a
- 43:18Speaker 1: team that runs the ball as their foundation, if you
- 43:23Speaker 1: are inviting bodies forward in theory, that makes it harder
- 43:26Speaker 1: to run because there's more defenders for gaps that are created.
- 43:29Speaker 1: So that's when you kill them deep, that's when you
- 43:31Speaker 1: kill him with those shots. Also tied into this, I
- 43:33Speaker 1: expect Dalton Kincaid. More teams are going to play more
- 43:35Speaker 1: single high against the Bills. I expect Dalton Kinkaid to
- 43:38Speaker 1: eat if they get that, especially if they get cover
- 43:40Speaker 1: one like he should be able to win on crossers drags,
- 43:44Speaker 1: be able to sell some of that and make it
- 43:45Speaker 1: seem like it's going to be a boot, but it's
- 43:47Speaker 1: actually a half boot. He plants his foot in the
- 43:48Speaker 1: ground and pops back the other way like Dalton ky
- 43:50Speaker 1: k should eat and almost kind of be the tip
- 43:52Speaker 1: of the spear in this passing offense in going forward.
- 43:56Speaker 1: If they're going to continue to see these single high looks,
- 43:58Speaker 1: which they absolutely are going to. Yeah, but I think
- 44:03Speaker 1: the deep ball is a concern just because I think
- 44:05Speaker 1: it's a domino effect of if they can't threaten teams vertically,
- 44:09Speaker 1: if they can't threaten teams with that, everybody just starts
- 44:12Speaker 1: to creep up. Things get a little tighter. Things get
- 44:14Speaker 1: a little tighter. Things get a little tighter, and then
- 44:16Speaker 1: the run gets tight. The underneath and the intermediate gets tight.
- 44:19Speaker 1: You got to find a way to stretch that second
- 44:21Speaker 1: to third level, or even get behind that third level
- 44:23Speaker 1: to stretch right. Push defenders, push defenders, even if it's
- 44:27Speaker 1: only one or two a game where you're hitting, or
- 44:30Speaker 1: the threat of it, or you hit one every couple,
- 44:32Speaker 1: just the semblance or the idea that it exists starts
- 44:35Speaker 1: to alleviate a lot of things. Then you can continue
- 44:37Speaker 1: to lean on that run game and put defenses into
- 44:39Speaker 1: hell because they don't have an answer for anything you
- 44:43Speaker 1: can do. Let's see some comments on this. I see
- 44:49Speaker 1: you guys going back forth. Charles say, is the problem
- 44:52Speaker 1: is Brady didn't utilize more play action and pass out
- 44:54Speaker 1: of heavy Look, yeah, I really thought in this game
- 44:55Speaker 1: against the Pats, I wanted to see the Bills tight
- 44:59Speaker 1: ends matched up against even Spelane but like you know,
- 45:02Speaker 1: Giddons and Tavai, like I wanted to see that. I
- 45:05Speaker 1: wanted them to be forced to put Maphoo in at
- 45:07Speaker 1: linebacker because the tight ends are eating and then you
- 45:10Speaker 1: can run at mop Poo a little bit. Yeah, they
- 45:13Speaker 1: or even wanted to do to the opposite, like go spread,
- 45:16Speaker 1: but go spread to run the ball. I think a
- 45:18Speaker 1: lot of it too. You gotta tip your cap to
- 45:19Speaker 1: the Pats. Barmore had a good game. I'm gonna talk
- 45:23Speaker 1: about that a bit. Barber at a good game. Mitt
- 45:24Speaker 1: Williams had a good game. They did some cool things
- 45:26Speaker 1: with him, lining him up an edge and letting him
- 45:28Speaker 1: beat up tight ends. Harold Landry had a couple of
- 45:29Speaker 1: really good plays. He's looked for juvenated since being back
- 45:33Speaker 1: reunited with Rabel this year after kind of being written
- 45:35Speaker 1: off the past couple of years. To Tennessee, uh Tongo
- 45:38Speaker 1: looked good in the middle of the field or in
- 45:41Speaker 1: the middle of the defense. I should say, like they,
- 45:44Speaker 1: you know, Farmer made some plays. They blitzed and got
- 45:46Speaker 1: some pressure. We're gonna talk about that in a bit.
- 45:49Speaker 1: But yeah, I thought there were some things I thought
- 45:50Speaker 1: that were lacking with Brady in this game unfortunately, Oh
- 45:55Speaker 1: Sully M josephs. I think Josh getting more consistent and
- 46:00Speaker 1: hitting the deep ball, whatever the remedy is, will also
- 46:03Speaker 1: help him hit that quote unquote final phase of his
- 46:05Speaker 1: development that can sustain into into his older ears. Yeah,
- 46:09Speaker 1: it's that's actually a good point too, because at some point,
- 46:11Speaker 1: you know, the mutant alien unicorn leg aspect will kind
- 46:14Speaker 1: of dissipate a little bit. I shouldn't have even I
- 46:17Speaker 1: don't know why I talked to Joe followed up with
- 46:19Speaker 1: a good comments said, meaning when his athleticism starts to
- 46:21Speaker 1: slow and he needs to start winning more with his
- 46:23Speaker 1: mind and arm from the pocket. I think that spot on.
- 46:26Speaker 1: You know, baseball analogy. I use this all the time.
- 46:28Speaker 1: At some point, you know, you can't always throw ninety
- 46:31Speaker 1: nine or one hundred or ninety eight. The gas starts
- 46:34Speaker 1: to go a little bit, and it's like, okay, you're
- 46:35Speaker 1: still throwing ninety four or ninety five, but it's like, okay,
- 46:38Speaker 1: can you locate the fastball? Okay? Do you have a
- 46:40Speaker 1: change up, you have a curve, you have a slider,
- 46:42Speaker 1: do you have a full arsenal the repertoire is or
- 46:44Speaker 1: have you always been? Yeah? I just really throw the
- 46:47Speaker 1: fastball sixty percent of the time, and that I work
- 46:49Speaker 1: a change up in like twenty percent and maybe a
- 46:51Speaker 1: curve like a little less than that. Like, No, you
- 46:54Speaker 1: need to be able, You need to be a picture
- 46:56Speaker 1: once you start to get into your thirties and as
- 46:59Speaker 1: you start to get a little bit older. It can't
- 47:00Speaker 1: just be flamethrower all the time. And so we'll see
- 47:04Speaker 1: what Alan does as he goes forward. But again, even
- 47:05Speaker 1: just for this year, you want to be the idea too.
- 47:08Speaker 1: You want to be as complete as possible. And no
- 47:10Speaker 1: team is right. No team has this awesome quick game
- 47:14Speaker 1: and this awesome take. What the defense gives you a
- 47:17Speaker 1: fishing type of mold, but they can also attack you
- 47:19Speaker 1: vertically all the time. But they can also run the ball,
- 47:21Speaker 1: and then it's also diverse in their run concepts and
- 47:23Speaker 1: also has a good pass protection. Nobody is completely holistic
- 47:26Speaker 1: on any one side of the ball. But if you
- 47:30Speaker 1: can be strong in some areas and just be good
- 47:33Speaker 1: enough in others, or have enough of a semblance of
- 47:35Speaker 1: a threat in others, that's where things really come together, right,
- 47:40Speaker 1: And that's all I'm looking for. With the Bill's deep ball,
- 47:42Speaker 1: they don't need to be a team that takes five
- 47:44Speaker 1: to seven deep shots a game and they have to
- 47:46Speaker 1: hit you know, three or four of them and just
- 47:49Speaker 1: push the ball downfield and push the ball downfield. It's
- 47:52Speaker 1: just got to be enough to be a threat in
- 47:53Speaker 1: the back of the defense's mind to be like, can
- 47:56Speaker 1: we afford to play single high sixty percent of the
- 47:59Speaker 1: time this because they might throw it over our head,
- 48:03Speaker 1: or they might beat us with this concept, or they
- 48:05Speaker 1: might you know, work in this play that we've seen
- 48:09Speaker 1: or build off of it in some way. Like it's
- 48:10Speaker 1: just how it all ties together. It's just enough to
- 48:12Speaker 1: keep defenses honest and not let everything gets super tight
- 48:16Speaker 1: and super constricted. Because again, the Bills are gonna see
- 48:18Speaker 1: a ton of single high anyway, because of how good
- 48:20Speaker 1: their run game is. Teams are going to load the
- 48:21Speaker 1: box bring a safety down, whether pre snap or post snap,
- 48:24Speaker 1: You're gonna see a ton of that like they did
- 48:26Speaker 1: last year. A good question, Kay Morty saying the lack
- 48:30Speaker 1: of running back passing game is a bit puzzling is
- 48:32Speaker 1: a bit of a puzzling thing. Where did the cook
- 48:33Speaker 1: wheel routes from twenty twenty three go. They've been running
- 48:36Speaker 1: so that Cook wheel route is the rail route on
- 48:39Speaker 1: mesh rail, so they run mesh and then Cook is
- 48:42Speaker 1: the wheel or the rail route. That's the first option
- 48:47Speaker 1: for Allen. The teams have been covering that up with regularity.
- 48:50Speaker 1: It was a staple for Joe Brady and this team.
- 48:54Speaker 1: Defenses have been keying in on it and have been
- 48:57Speaker 1: covering up. Whether it's on Cook, whether it's on Ty Johnson.
- 49:00Speaker 1: They're running that rail route, they're running that wheel and
- 49:04Speaker 1: it's it's just covered. Guys are over the top, whether
- 49:06Speaker 1: it's Man or its zone. Teams know that it's coming
- 49:09Speaker 1: and they're keying in on it, so they're running it.
- 49:11Speaker 1: It's just not there and Allen has to go elsewhere
- 49:13Speaker 1: or do something else. Pennen says, Kinkate has been murdering
- 49:19Speaker 1: the middle of the field and I expect him to
- 49:20Speaker 1: continue to do so with all these single high looks.
- 49:22Speaker 1: He just has to stay healthy. Fingers crossed, fingers cross,
- 49:25Speaker 1: fingers cross. Charles's defense is keep the shell over the top,
- 49:31Speaker 1: makes it tough to throw the de throw deep with
- 49:32Speaker 1: any consistency. Fair, but they're also seeing a ton of
- 49:35Speaker 1: single high like they're seeing a bunch of cover one
- 49:39Speaker 1: even just in uh, where is it in this game
- 49:43Speaker 1: against the Patriots in particular, right the overall in this game,
- 49:47Speaker 1: the Patriots were in Cover one thirty two point four
- 49:49Speaker 1: percent of the time and Cover three twenty seven point
- 49:52Speaker 1: nine percent of the time, So sixty three percent of
- 49:54Speaker 1: the time against the Patriots they saw single high and
- 49:58Speaker 1: you're gonna get a lot of that again. They were
- 49:59Speaker 1: one of the offenses are the most single high last year.
- 50:02Speaker 1: And part of that is it's twofold, right, you want
- 50:05Speaker 1: an extra body in the box to play the run
- 50:07Speaker 1: or available to fit the run right, whether he's spinning
- 50:09Speaker 1: down post snap, and he's more of a run defender
- 50:11Speaker 1: than he is a pass defender. He's part of that
- 50:13Speaker 1: spacing and part of that fit. So that's part of it.
- 50:16Speaker 1: And then the other part of it is you're like,
- 50:18Speaker 1: you know what, we got to stop the run. Plus
- 50:20Speaker 1: maybe we don't really fear the guys on the outside
- 50:23Speaker 1: that much or we'd rather take our chances one on
- 50:26Speaker 1: one on the outside rather than having to play the
- 50:29Speaker 1: run with the neutral or light box, like those are
- 50:31Speaker 1: the options, and defenses are picking the run more so
- 50:34Speaker 1: than they are the pass, and I just want them
- 50:37Speaker 1: to have to worry about the pass a little bit more,
- 50:39Speaker 1: or I want them to be like, you know, instead
- 50:41Speaker 1: of only being twenty percent scared of getting beat on
- 50:43Speaker 1: the outside, they're thirty percent scared or forty percent scared.
- 50:46Speaker 1: Just a little bit to put some more doubt and
- 50:49Speaker 1: put some more fear into the back of their minds
- 50:51Speaker 1: and increase your odds of limiting tendency, limiting your tendencies
- 50:56Speaker 1: and giveaways, and be able to access more of the
- 50:58Speaker 1: menu without flipping the page. I see a lot of
- 51:06Speaker 1: comments on Johnson gern and Johnson Junior. Yeah, I don't
- 51:09Speaker 1: know else what else oh Man's a could comment from
- 51:16Speaker 1: DJ you said, man, I hated them jerseys that could
- 51:18Speaker 1: barely see the numbers of the players watching it on tape.
- 51:20Speaker 1: It's frustrating as hell to see the numbers. I know,
- 51:23Speaker 1: like what the players look like from a body type
- 51:25Speaker 1: perspective and how they look esthetically. It was super hard.
- 51:28Speaker 1: It was super hard, And I see several comments coming
- 51:31Speaker 1: through to oh It's funny. Captain asked how much were
- 51:34Speaker 1: the paths in single high on Sunday. Yeah, I ironically
- 51:36Speaker 1: answered that, Yeah, sixty eight point three percent of the
- 51:39Speaker 1: time single high overall. Yeah, I do think there is
- 51:44Speaker 1: some not predictability, but some lack of variability within the
- 51:53Speaker 1: Bills offense at times. And Brady's done a good job
- 51:57Speaker 1: traditionally layering on top of his predictive ability and if
- 52:00Speaker 1: it's not broke, don't fix it, and then layering on
- 52:02Speaker 1: top of that. He just needs to continue to do so.
- 52:05Speaker 1: And we'll see, we'll hope. Next piece that I want
- 52:09Speaker 1: to mention, huh, we are going to talk about the
- 52:14Speaker 1: defense as a whole. Part of this I think isn't
- 52:17Speaker 1: a real concern. Part of it I think is a
- 52:19Speaker 1: real concern. The run defense, I think is a real concern.
- 52:22Speaker 1: I know it's not the huge takeaway from this game
- 52:25Speaker 1: against the Patriots, and I will say that I thought
- 52:26Speaker 1: a lot of their run fits were better from an
- 52:28Speaker 1: integrity standpoint, I think we got a defense that had
- 52:35Speaker 1: bodies for every gap and played them accordingly. You didn't
- 52:38Speaker 1: have multiple guys in the same gap, you have guys
- 52:40Speaker 1: playing double teams. Well, you had some issues just supposedly
- 52:43Speaker 1: on the interior, like no disrespect to Zion logo for
- 52:46Speaker 1: Darien Mathis, but they saw a significant chunk of snaps
- 52:50Speaker 1: in this game that shouldn't be the regular occurrence like
- 52:54Speaker 1: you're expecting Ed Oliver and Larryogunjoby and TJ. Sanders and
- 52:57Speaker 1: guys like that inside. And the Pats also aren't a
- 53:00Speaker 1: really good running offense. Their passing metrics were good coming
- 53:03Speaker 1: into this game. They're probably even better coming out of it,
- 53:05Speaker 1: especially for Drake May like he was. You know, their
- 53:07Speaker 1: passing offense was top four, top ten, and top five
- 53:10Speaker 1: in a lot of areas coming into this game, which
- 53:12Speaker 1: was a huge shout out to them, and he would
- 53:13Speaker 1: boomed to what they were able to do. But yeah,
- 53:16Speaker 1: the Pats are pets, aren't a good rushing offense. But
- 53:18Speaker 1: I still thought the Bills had to execute in several
- 53:20Speaker 1: areas and they did. I still think they're running. The
- 53:22Speaker 1: rush defense is a concern. I don't think it's getting
- 53:24Speaker 1: talked about enough. It's getting talked about more than it
- 53:27Speaker 1: was last year. But against better teams or teams with
- 53:33Speaker 1: competent run games, it's still gonna be an issue. They're
- 53:38Speaker 1: still getting displaced, they're still getting pushed off the ball,
- 53:41Speaker 1: even for the good guys that are inside, like it's
- 53:44Speaker 1: happened at times. I know everybody loves Dion Walker, but
- 53:46Speaker 1: he's getting blown off the ball at times, although he's
- 53:49Speaker 1: ahead of schedule in terms of what I thought he
- 53:51Speaker 1: was going to be at this point, so I still
- 53:52Speaker 1: graded out overall as a positive. But run defense I
- 53:56Speaker 1: still think is going to be an issue for this defense.
- 53:59Speaker 1: That being said, in particular with this game, I think
- 54:03Speaker 1: this game was a good representation of another issue that
- 54:05Speaker 1: I think the defense has still that was a problem
- 54:08Speaker 1: last year and I think is still a concern this year.
- 54:11Speaker 1: Essentially just the disconnect between the rush and coverage. There
- 54:15Speaker 1: were plenty of examples of this with the Pats game.
- 54:18Speaker 1: You know you have the whole and also too, I
- 54:20Speaker 1: want to mention a lot of this game, like some
- 54:22Speaker 1: of the successes in the past were Digs being great
- 54:26Speaker 1: and making a play and Drake May being a mutant
- 54:28Speaker 1: and making a play. But they do have that disconnect
- 54:32Speaker 1: between Russian coverage and they just kind of put some
- 54:34Speaker 1: examples into your brain from the Pats game. Think of
- 54:37Speaker 1: I think it was the last drive that whole shot
- 54:40Speaker 1: to Booty from May where the Bills are running Cover two.
- 54:46Speaker 1: They run a little tackle end stunt, a tech stunt
- 54:49Speaker 1: to the bottom of your screen. I think it's Daikwon
- 54:52Speaker 1: Jones stabs inside Rousseau, loops around him, comes clean into
- 54:58Speaker 1: the backfield. Rousseau is in in like two seconds, bears
- 55:02Speaker 1: down on May, sticks him. May hits the shot over
- 55:08Speaker 1: the top over Trey. White hits booty. Now there's a
- 55:11Speaker 1: route underneath May's body language and his eyes look like
- 55:14Speaker 1: he could potentially hit that little sit route underneath. Trey
- 55:17Speaker 1: hesitates just slightly and we get shot over the top. Also,
- 55:21Speaker 1: I mean May's throw to Diggs with Daikwon Jones hanging
- 55:26Speaker 1: on to him like they run this like QB bash
- 55:29Speaker 1: type of protection. Day Kwon blows it up right away.
- 55:32Speaker 1: He's in the backfield in an instant. I also see
- 55:35Speaker 1: some comments about Daikon. D Kwon's had a good year,
- 55:37Speaker 1: especially considered he's been playing a lot of three tech
- 55:40Speaker 1: with Ed Oliver out. Daikon I think has largely been good.
- 55:43Speaker 1: But he barrels in right away, gets in on May,
- 55:46Speaker 1: May stiff arms him, and then with Daikwon hanging on,
- 55:50Speaker 1: gets it out to Dig. So that's an amazing play
- 55:53Speaker 1: from May, but also Daikwon isn't able to get him
- 55:56Speaker 1: down two Shaq takes too far of an up field
- 56:00Speaker 1: angle on Digs, which allows digs to catch the ball
- 56:02Speaker 1: and essentially just turn over his left shoulder and get
- 56:04Speaker 1: up field, and and he's wide open and got tons
- 56:07Speaker 1: of space. I think some of it with the Patriots game.
- 56:09Speaker 1: You just have to tip your cap, right, Hey, Drake May,
- 56:12Speaker 1: you made to play nice. Hey Stefan Diggs, you made
- 56:14Speaker 1: to play nice. But we're seeing still too much of
- 56:19Speaker 1: the times where the rush gets home or creates pressure
- 56:24Speaker 1: quickly and there's somebody wide open on the back end
- 56:28Speaker 1: and it's a completion, and then the opposite the coverage
- 56:30Speaker 1: will be good. Nobody gets home, nobody's able to get
- 56:34Speaker 1: up front. And I know that happens to teams in general.
- 56:38Speaker 1: It's like it happens all across the league, but it
- 56:41Speaker 1: feels like it really kills the Bills in big moments.
- 56:45Speaker 1: And I thought this Pats game was a really ironic
- 56:47Speaker 1: and painful microcosm of that disconnect between the Russian coverage
- 56:52Speaker 1: that happened for the Bills a ton last year and
- 56:53Speaker 1: that happened a bit this year even hell, I mean
- 56:55Speaker 1: even it happened a bit in the Miami game as well,
- 56:58Speaker 1: and even the Saints game. To agree, right, guys would
- 57:00Speaker 1: get in and get pressure on like third and five
- 57:04Speaker 1: and Tua or Rattler would complete something underneath for like
- 57:07Speaker 1: six yards and get a first down by yard or
- 57:10Speaker 1: get a first down by two yards and things like that.
- 57:12Speaker 1: Just that disconnect or you know guys holding their coverage
- 57:15Speaker 1: well and you, oh man, that guy held the ball
- 57:17Speaker 1: for like four or five seconds. The quarterback says a
- 57:19Speaker 1: ton of time, and then you find somebody to throw to.
- 57:21Speaker 1: That disconnect I think still exists. And again this is
- 57:26Speaker 1: where I'm kind of holding out. Okay, you get ok
- 57:29Speaker 1: and Joby, you get at Oliver back, you get Sanders back,
- 57:32Speaker 1: you get Michael Hoyite, you get Max Harston, and hopefully
- 57:36Speaker 1: that helps a little bit, although I don't think Trey
- 57:37Speaker 1: White has been as terrible as everybody's making them out
- 57:39Speaker 1: to be. Conversation for a little later in this episode,
- 57:43Speaker 1: but yeah, that disconnect just has to go away. They can't.
- 57:46Speaker 1: It feels like also they each take turns like letting
- 57:50Speaker 1: each other down. Like it's not holistically the rush and
- 57:53Speaker 1: it's not holistically the coverage. It's like they alternate, like
- 57:57Speaker 1: the coverage lets down the rush. The ruts the rush
- 58:00Speaker 1: down the coverage, and they alternate like whose fault? It is,
- 58:03Speaker 1: and that makes it even more frustrating, more more frustrating
- 58:08Speaker 1: than anything. And even in this game, you know I'm
- 58:11Speaker 1: seeing uh, you know, Patton's common he're saying. I thought,
- 58:14Speaker 1: over all, the defense looked really good for most of
- 58:15Speaker 1: the Patriots game. The offense put them in some absolute,
- 58:18Speaker 1: uh not great positions. Very fair. I don't think the
- 58:22Speaker 1: defense was horrible. You know, Digs got his, but even
- 58:26Speaker 1: a lot of Digs getting his was Digs making great
- 58:29Speaker 1: plays or May making an unreal play to get him
- 58:33Speaker 1: the ball. I thought, on the whole, they and again
- 58:36Speaker 1: even I know it's not gonna reflect it. And the
- 58:39Speaker 1: chunk plays were bad, and there were some poor coverage moments,
- 58:41Speaker 1: but I mean even I think the one the one
- 58:44Speaker 1: off script completion to Digs on the sideline from May
- 58:50Speaker 1: where they get pressure, it's man coverage pressman from Benford,
- 58:55Speaker 1: and he is all over Digs. He jams him, he's
- 58:59Speaker 1: got handed him. He peeks into the backfield and see
- 59:03Speaker 1: that May, and sees that May starts to roll to
- 59:05Speaker 1: his right, and his eyes he's already got hands on days,
- 59:07Speaker 1: but his eyes go back to Digs. He's literally attached
- 59:11Speaker 1: to him, not even just in his hip pocket. He
- 59:13Speaker 1: is attached to Diggs, Digs cells like he's going upfield
- 59:18Speaker 1: right and then pops back out onto the sideline right
- 59:22Speaker 1: as May throws it, and you get great ballplacement from
- 59:25Speaker 1: May and you get it catch from Digs. That was
- 59:27Speaker 1: great coverage from Benford for literally ninety seven percent of
- 59:30Speaker 1: that rep. You just tip your cap. You do got beat,
- 59:34Speaker 1: Like that's it. Now. Would you have liked somebody to,
- 59:37Speaker 1: you know, keep containing a little bit better, Yes? Would
- 59:40Speaker 1: you like you know, guys to get pressure and then
- 59:43Speaker 1: get home and get quarterbacks down for the sack. Yes,
- 59:46Speaker 1: But sometimes you just tip your cap. And I think
- 59:48Speaker 1: a lot of frustrations in this game where you know,
- 59:50Speaker 1: you tip your cap to May, you tip your cap
- 59:52Speaker 1: to Digs. But there still is that disconnect from a
- 59:55Speaker 1: Russian coverage standpoint prevalent in this defense. Not to this
- 59:58Speaker 1: isn't just purely reactionary for the New England game. Everything
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: we're saying in this episode is not purely reactionary from
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: the New England game. But I still think that disconnect
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: between Russian coverage is still prevalent, and huh, gotta find
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: a way, Gotta find a way to kind of marry
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: those two things and not go through this chasing your
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: tail situation of each one letting the other down and
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: rotating through those pieces. And then that with the run defense. Again,
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: that wasn't a huge takeaway from this game. The run
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: defense didn't get gashed. I was a little worried because
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: the Patriots didn't don't have a good run game, and
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: I was like, if they're able to run the ball
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: in the Bills, that's really rough. But the Bills were
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: gap sound. Who knows what we'll get going forward against
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: better running running teams. Can they still stay that consistent
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: and maintain gap integrity. We will see, We will see,
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: we will see. The next piece that I think is
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: a real concern, but not really anything. I think they
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: can fix the safety play or this safety combinations. And
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: I'll keep it light because I know a lot of
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: people have already flamed Taylor rap in the chat. But
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: I think it's twofold. Really. I think Cole Bishop is improving.
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: I think week over week he's still prone to some errors,
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: still prone to some mistakes. I don't think that's a
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: death sentence. I don't think that's terrible. Again, it's more
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: just like he needs time on task and he's developing.
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: But then pairing him with Taylor Rapp, who is really
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: regressed as a tackler this year. He's missing a ton
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: of tackles from depth. I know everybody always makes the
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: friendly fire jokes, but he's been very solid with the
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: Bills and in his career, like coming forward and making
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: tackles from depth. And last year I say it on
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: the show all the time, like he saved so many
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: like sixty plus or forty plus. You know, house call
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: runs because of his play, his tackling play coming from depth,
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: whether in two high or single high alignments, and this
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: year you're just not seeing it. His angles aren't great.
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: It also looks like he maybe even lost the step,
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: which he didn't really have a step to lose to
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: begin with. So if he's lost a step, that hurts
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: even more. But his angles and his just play at
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: the tackle point is been inconsistent, and that's where he
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: has to be consistent for this Bills team, because he
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: doesn't have the athleticism in the range to make plays
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: on the back end consistently. And then pairing him with
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: Cole Bishop, you're pairing him with a guy who needs
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: time on task and who needs to develop. So you've
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: got this learning ball of clay at one safety and
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: then you've got this not so fleet of foot maybe
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: regressing guy at the other safety spot. It's just worrisome.
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: I think that's also part of the reason why they're
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: just playing so deep on so many coverages. Like there's
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: times where they're like twenty five thirty yards deep and
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: there's just so much space between the second and third level.
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: And I don't know if that's coaching by design. I
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: don't know if it's the players playing it that way.
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: I would assume it's coaching based. And because again, they
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: want to keep everything in front of them, they don't
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: want to get beat over the top. And then you
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: got someone in Cole Bishop who's still learning to see
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: the game from the right way right and process it
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: it quickly and accurately, so you want to give him
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: a little more space. But then also Taylor Rapp is
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: the most again isn't the most fleet of foot, so
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: he doesn't want dudes to get even with him. He
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: needs to maintain steps on a guy so that way
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: he can stay over the top and not get beat
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: behind and get you know, beat behind and have throws
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: go over his head, so they're playing extra deep because
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: of it, which opens things in front again. They want
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: to cap everything anyway. They don't want to allow explosives,
- 1:03:31Speaker 1: they don't want to allow verticals from a past perspective.
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: So they're already going to make sure they again put
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: a cap on everything. Keep the roof on the defense
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: or on the offense, I should say. But then if
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: you've got guys who are also learning to play the
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: position in the way you want, and then also another
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: guy who isn't the most rangy or athletic type of dude,
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: it puts them to kind of you know, play even
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: back a little further. It's just, yeah, the safety play.
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: It goes back and forth and ebbs and flows. Again, Rap,
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: I didn't I've talked about the offseason this on. I
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: don't want to bang this stump too much. Like I
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: talked about Rap and Bishop not being the most ideal
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: pairing because of their skill sets and where they are
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: as players. I didn't think they complimented each other tremendously well.
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: And then Rap has regressed in his tackling. Hopefully the
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: more sample size we get or the more season we get,
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: you know, his mistackle. Rat's start to regress to the
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: mean in a positive way, but it's it's concerning on
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: the back end. And then if you're also pairing that
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: with you know, Trey White, who's been vulnerable at times
- 1:04:37Speaker 1: and Benford who's been vulnerable at times, I also think
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: that's funny too. I'm not patting myself on the back,
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: but so many people yelled at me because I said
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: Christian Benford wasn't a top ten corner hands down, and
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: people yelled at me because I didn't say he was
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: top five. I thought he was on the cusp of
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: top ten, but I had to solidify some things. He's
- 1:04:54Speaker 1: kind of struggled a little bit and been a bit
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: of a letdown, as you know, the quote unquote lockdown
- 1:04:59Speaker 1: guy that he he was pigged to be coming in
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: and even I think he's again I never thought he
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: was a hand down top ten corner, but I thought
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: he was approaching that level, and man, he's He's given
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: up some completions in some unexpected ways. But I do
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: think a lot of it is the scheme and what
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: they're coached to do. So that's a bit frustrating thanos
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: Ron that you much for being here with super Chad.
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: He says, why not try hard? He can't be worse
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: than White, Yeah, I mean you could be worse. I
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: don't think Trey White's been great. I don't think he's
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: been as bad as everyone's given him, you know, Flak four.
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: Even in this Pats game. He had several really good
- 1:05:38Speaker 1: reps against Diggs, against Hollins, even against Booty, but then
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: you know again, he gets beat for some chunk plays.
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: I don't think he's in an ideal world. I think
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: he's your corner three, not your corner two. But this
- 1:05:50Speaker 1: is not an ideal world. Max Harrison is hurt, Dorian
- 1:05:53Speaker 1: Strong is hurt. I'd actually, you know, not even hardy.
- 1:05:57Speaker 1: I like JaMarcus Ingram, and I'd be down to give
- 1:05:59Speaker 1: JaMarcus Inger at some point, especially with how he plays
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: the run. But they seem to be rolling with Tray
- 1:06:05Speaker 1: and we'll see what happens to Mer again. I don't
- 1:06:06Speaker 1: think Trey has been as terrible as a lot of
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: people are making him out to be, but he hasn't
- 1:06:11Speaker 1: been an ideal corner two. And then Benford, I think
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: he's kind of underperformed a bit as well, considering the
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: expectation in the standard we have for him. I think
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: Benford has largely been fine. But when you look at
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: the years he's had in the past, the metrics that
- 1:06:24Speaker 1: he had last year, the various coverage success he had
- 1:06:27Speaker 1: in man and his own against a variety of different
- 1:06:31Speaker 1: body types and players outside one on one, he's you know,
- 1:06:34Speaker 1: he's not meeting the expectation in the standard that he
- 1:06:36Speaker 1: kind of set for himself. But yeah, I uh, disappointing, disappointing, disappointing.
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: And if you're having inconsistency at corner and then you're
- 1:06:46Speaker 1: having inconsistency at safety, it's just scary. And yeah, I
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: also have to think a bit uncharacteristic for the Bills,
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: who always seem to get the most out of their
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: secondary like Sean McDermott has always found a way to
- 1:06:59Speaker 1: raise floors and raised ceilings at the corner spot and
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: get the most blood that he can from those stones.
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: And it just seems like they're underperforming a bit as
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: a unit, which is unfortunate. Uh, this next one, this
- 1:07:14Speaker 1: isn't a real concern, but I just want to note it.
- 1:07:19Speaker 1: I wasn't expecting the Patriots Front to beat the Bills
- 1:07:22Speaker 1: offensive line up as much as they did. I mentioned
- 1:07:25Speaker 1: it earlier, alluded to it. You know, Bar Moore, Milton Williams,
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: Harold Landry, Tonga, like they were mean and nasty upfront
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: and squeezing gaps and chucking dudes around. They caused those
- 1:07:38Speaker 1: four particularly caused problems up front throughout the night. But
- 1:07:41Speaker 1: even the rotating Pats defensive linemen, you know, just overall
- 1:07:44Speaker 1: as an entire group, they limited his placement, they got pressure,
- 1:07:47Speaker 1: they compromised the pocket, they squeezed gaps versus the run.
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: That kind of just I'm gonna put that in my
- 1:07:55Speaker 1: back pocket. And as they start to play better defensive line,
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: keep an eye on that. I just think that's something
- 1:08:04Speaker 1: to keep an eye on. Again, the Jets have some
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: good dudes up front, but you know, Jermaine Johnson was
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: giving Spencer Brown like fits and problems and then Jermaine
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: Johnson went down. So just the quality of opponent they
- 1:08:16Speaker 1: played the first several weeks, you know, maybe that's factoring
- 1:08:19Speaker 1: into how good they've looked. I'm not too tremendously worried
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: about it, because I do think they have a good
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: offensive line as individuals, and I do think they're well coached,
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: but I was not prepared for the Pats defensive line
- 1:08:29Speaker 1: to beat them up as much as they did and
- 1:08:31Speaker 1: control the line of scrimmage. Again, this is a good
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: run defense. They're coached well in that regard, and they
- 1:08:35Speaker 1: do have good dudes upfront. Barmore what is the blood
- 1:08:39Speaker 1: clots or whatever he had last year that caused him
- 1:08:40Speaker 1: to miss the whole season. I think a lot of
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: people forgot how really good Christian Barmore is. And then
- 1:08:47Speaker 1: they added Milton Williams and then again Harrol Landry having
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: a resurgence, and they did some cool things from a
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: technique perspective, as Andrews says, where the Pat's selling up
- 1:08:56Speaker 1: stopped the runner. Are they just that talented? I mean
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: they played a lot of single high, so you had
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: numbers in the box to kind of help you gap
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: out a little bit as needed. But I thought they
- 1:09:06Speaker 1: were well coached in terms of how they executed, you know,
- 1:09:08Speaker 1: slant in the front and where they were playing and
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: understanding down distance and the Bills tendencies and playing against that.
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: I think they had the Bills well scouted, but I
- 1:09:16Speaker 1: also think they executed well individually. And then the little
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: cool thing is right, like taking Milton Williams and putting
- 1:09:21Speaker 1: him at the defensive end and lining him up on
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: you know, Dalton Kincaid or lining bar Moore up on
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: Dalton Kinkaid or Hawes and just letting them kind of
- 1:09:29Speaker 1: attack and go that way. So I thought they did
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: some cool things from alignment perspective. But I really thought
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: and I do think they had the Bills scouted well
- 1:09:37Speaker 1: from their run game plan, but a lot of it
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: was just their guys, you know, winning up front. Barmore
- 1:09:44Speaker 1: is a stud, Milt Williams is a stud, and Harold
- 1:09:47Speaker 1: Landry looks like he's rejuvenated, and then you're seeing what
- 1:09:52Speaker 1: else you can get from the other dudes and the
- 1:09:53Speaker 1: rotation pieces up front. Yeah, I think, but I think
- 1:09:57Speaker 1: they have talent and they're well coached on that side
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: of the ball, and I think they had I was
- 1:10:01Speaker 1: well scouted, so again, you know, kudos to them for that.
- 1:10:06Speaker 1: I'm not worried about the old line. I'm not saying
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: you're saying it's concern. Everybody freak out, everybody panic, but
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: it is something to note, just I guess, or for
- 1:10:14Speaker 1: me at least, and I want to share that with folks.
- 1:10:16Speaker 1: Because I just wasn't expecting that level of struggle. I
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: should say, I guess to kind of verbalize it the
- 1:10:23Speaker 1: right way for the Bills offensive line other pieces. I think,
- 1:10:31Speaker 1: so again what we spoke about tonight so far, I
- 1:10:34Speaker 1: do think the deep ball concerns are real from a
- 1:10:41Speaker 1: multitude standpoint, and I don't think it's any one person
- 1:10:43Speaker 1: or one thing's fault. I don't think it's Brandon Bean's
- 1:10:45Speaker 1: fall for how they built the wide receiver room. I
- 1:10:47Speaker 1: don't think it's all in the wide receivers. I don't
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: think it's all on Joe Brady. I don't think it's
- 1:10:51Speaker 1: all on Josh Allen. It is a little bit of
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: all of them. The central part of it, though, is
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: Josh Allen has been great throwing the deep ball the
- 1:11:02Speaker 1: past several years, and they don't have true or traditional
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: burners on the outside and towards the top of their
- 1:11:14Speaker 1: depth chart. I will say that, yeah, and it's it's
- 1:11:22Speaker 1: actually a good comment here. Brendan says, we are so deep,
- 1:11:26Speaker 1: like years pass or mocking. We are so deep, which
- 1:11:28Speaker 1: allows opponents to march on us and out in same
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: pressure on our offense and then puts in same pressure
- 1:11:33Speaker 1: on offense to have to score every possession, and then
- 1:11:36Speaker 1: Brendan says, ben, but don't break. I don't think it's Ben,
- 1:11:40Speaker 1: but don't break. Their Bill's defense is break or they break,
- 1:11:45Speaker 1: you like. Their defense is predicated on getting turnovers, creating
- 1:11:49Speaker 1: negative plays, creating havoc. Their defense is built around, Hey,
- 1:11:53Speaker 1: you might gash us for nine yards, twelve yards, fifteen yards,
- 1:11:56Speaker 1: but then we're gonna get a tackle for loss and
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: it's gonna be second and twelve or second and thirteen,
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: or we're gonna get a sack, or we're gonna get
- 1:12:01Speaker 1: a turnover and then we're gonna score and it's gonna
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: be fourteen to three or seventeen nothing, and you're gonna
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: have to move away from the run game. Because of
- 1:12:10Speaker 1: the game script, we can work on keeping everything in
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: front of us, playing the percentages, playing the odds, and
- 1:12:15Speaker 1: go from there. So yeah, I don't think they're bend
- 1:12:18Speaker 1: but don't break. The biggest concern with their run defense
- 1:12:21Speaker 1: this year is last year. They they got pushed around,
- 1:12:25Speaker 1: they got displaced, they got gashed, But they balanced that
- 1:12:27Speaker 1: out by having a high rate of runs that went
- 1:12:30Speaker 1: for zero or less yards. So stuffs. That's a stuff rate.
- 1:12:34Speaker 1: This year, they're towards the bottom of the well. Heading
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: into this game against the Path, they were towards the
- 1:12:37Speaker 1: bottom of the league and stuff rates. So they're getting
- 1:12:39Speaker 1: pushed around, they're getting moved, they're getting displaced, and they're
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: not creating those negative plays in the run game. So
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: it's like a rotating circle of negativity for a run
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: defense standpoint. I don't think I know the Bills defense gets,
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: and especially from a past perspective, I think because they
- 1:12:53Speaker 1: play you know, Cover two or quote unquote softer coverages,
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: the thought is bend but don't break because they want
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: to keep everything in front of them. They don't play
- 1:13:00Speaker 1: a ton of man, they don't blitz a ton. But
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: I actually think this defense is more of like live
- 1:13:06Speaker 1: by the sword, die by the sword. It's it's there,
- 1:13:08Speaker 1: get gash or get gashed, like they're either gonna gash
- 1:13:11Speaker 1: you or you're gonna gash them. And that's kind of
- 1:13:13Speaker 1: what they play. Even with how they look for guys
- 1:13:16Speaker 1: up front in terms of body types, they're not looking
- 1:13:18Speaker 1: for anchorors or you know, displacement mitigators. They want guys
- 1:13:21Speaker 1: who can shoot, trigger, penetrate, cause havoc. If that means
- 1:13:25Speaker 1: they're out of their gap and there's a huge crease
- 1:13:27Speaker 1: or alley for somebody to run through. It is what
- 1:13:30Speaker 1: it is, but they're betting that at some point those
- 1:13:33Speaker 1: triggers and those shootings are gonna lead to tackles for
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: loss or sacks or forced fumbles or miscommunications or you
- 1:13:41Speaker 1: know force. You know you're gonna heat the QB up
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: into a bath throat, which leads to an interception or
- 1:13:45Speaker 1: leads to a deflection, you get an offense behind the sticks,
- 1:13:47Speaker 1: or you turn them over. They're playing kind of the
- 1:13:51Speaker 1: back and forth game with that pendulum. You're either gonna
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: get them or they're gonna get you, and it kind
- 1:13:55Speaker 1: of just goes back and forth. But fair it's a
- 1:14:01Speaker 1: comedy from Joey. Didn't expect to see Alan getting sacked
- 1:14:03Speaker 1: as much as he had lately. The Saints got him
- 1:14:05Speaker 1: in the past, did two Yeah, I mean he got
- 1:14:07Speaker 1: sacked three times and against the Saints pressure to bid
- 1:14:12Speaker 1: in this game. I think it's also something to keep
- 1:14:14Speaker 1: an eye on too. Alan kind of getting a little
- 1:14:16Speaker 1: skittish in the pocket when he presses or he doesn't
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: feel completely calm. He bails from the pocket early. We
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: saw that a couple of times in this game. I
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: don't think it's the worst thing in the world or
- 1:14:26Speaker 1: a huge red flag, because he's always kind of been
- 1:14:28Speaker 1: that way, like for stretches, but also in games, even
- 1:14:31Speaker 1: when he's doing well, like he did a bunch last
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: year and he won the MVP, he will evade or
- 1:14:36Speaker 1: take off from the pocket before he has to, but
- 1:14:41Speaker 1: it tends to just kind of end up being a
- 1:14:43Speaker 1: wash because he makes a play with his legs or
- 1:14:46Speaker 1: his arm, or makes him play with his legs and
- 1:14:48Speaker 1: his arm, and so it kind of balances out. But yeah,
- 1:14:50Speaker 1: it feels like teams have been getting to him a
- 1:14:52Speaker 1: little bit more this year. His pressure to sack conversion
- 1:14:57Speaker 1: is higher this year. He was the best in the
- 1:14:59Speaker 1: league last year year in terms of the lowest amount
- 1:15:01Speaker 1: of pressures that were converted to sacks. This year he's
- 1:15:03Speaker 1: more towards like the middle of the league, middle of
- 1:15:05Speaker 1: the table, which for him is not good. He's usually
- 1:15:07Speaker 1: one of the best in that regard, so he's getting
- 1:15:10Speaker 1: sacked a bit more. Maybe that's contributing to him being,
- 1:15:14Speaker 1: you know, a little skittish from me time to time,
- 1:15:17Speaker 1: But it really felt like the paths did a good
- 1:15:20Speaker 1: job kind of cause and havoc and you know again
- 1:15:23Speaker 1: they have a good front. Well see what continues with that.
- 1:15:25Speaker 1: But yeah, he's traditionally kind of always been a little
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: quick to evade, and I think it's some of it
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: is he's super athletic, he's a mutant. He can make
- 1:15:33Speaker 1: plays with his arm, make plays with his legs. So
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: if he feels like things aren't secure, I think it's
- 1:15:38Speaker 1: just like, Okay, let me just clock in real quick,
- 1:15:40Speaker 1: make this play all right, cool, and then we'll go
- 1:15:42Speaker 1: and kind of get back in rhythm. But that is
- 1:15:45Speaker 1: something to note as well. I don't think it's I
- 1:15:47Speaker 1: don't think it's a real concern. I think it's more
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: of a fake concern in the theme of this episode,
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: because he's kind of always been that way. Even last
- 1:15:54Speaker 1: year again when he was the MVP, he was balling
- 1:15:57Speaker 1: out and everybody was talking about how great he is,
- 1:15:59Speaker 1: and in those games where he was great, he was
- 1:16:01Speaker 1: still like bailing from the pocket two or three times
- 1:16:03Speaker 1: a game when he didn't need to. It just gets
- 1:16:06Speaker 1: hyper focused on more when you lose, like everything that
- 1:16:10Speaker 1: had the Bills have Yeah, questions, thoughts, comments, concern bum
- 1:16:19Speaker 1: b Kent says, how many pass breakups do we have
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: as a team? Just a few at best if I go, uh,
- 1:16:32Speaker 1: their towards there, towards the bottom of the league. I
- 1:16:37Speaker 1: just looked this up earlier with what I was doing.
- 1:16:42Speaker 1: I'm so annoyed at myself. All right, cool, bear with
- 1:16:45Speaker 1: me as I bring up some coverage stats here from
- 1:16:52Speaker 1: a team perspective. Okay, if we are looking at forced incompletions,
- 1:17:00Speaker 1: as it loads, and I try install while this loads
- 1:17:04Speaker 1: to answer this question, I wrote it down, but I
- 1:17:06Speaker 1: don't know where it is. But when it comes to
- 1:17:10Speaker 1: pass breakups, of course, this wants to take forever to load.
- 1:17:13Speaker 1: Right now, I'm sorry, it just loaded up. I'll take
- 1:17:14Speaker 1: that back. Uh. So, if you're looking at forced in completions,
- 1:17:19Speaker 1: which are passes defensed, passes that are hit by the defender,
- 1:17:23Speaker 1: or even you know, close coverage force out, you know,
- 1:17:27Speaker 1: route cutoff grades, so essentially anything that results in a
- 1:17:30Speaker 1: forced incompletion doesn't have to be necessarily like a true
- 1:17:33Speaker 1: pass breakup. The bills. Oh huh, I want, I want,
- 1:17:39Speaker 1: I want. I know people are probably gonna guess this low.
- 1:17:42Speaker 1: I want I want anyone to guess if they would
- 1:17:46Speaker 1: like so again, forced incompletions are and or if you
- 1:17:51Speaker 1: just want to go traditional PBUs pass breakups, right, we'll
- 1:17:55Speaker 1: go traditional pass breakups. I want so, I want any
- 1:17:58Speaker 1: of any of you in the chat to guess how
- 1:18:00Speaker 1: many pass breakups they have, and then I'm gonna read
- 1:18:03Speaker 1: it forcing completions you usually have more, because again, pass
- 1:18:06Speaker 1: breakups are literally just passes that are broken up. Forcing completions.
- 1:18:09Speaker 1: Forcing completions are passes broken up or hit by the defender,
- 1:18:13Speaker 1: you know, incompletions due to close coverage. Incompletions due to
- 1:18:16Speaker 1: being like forced out of bounds or cut off by
- 1:18:18Speaker 1: the sideline. So they have more forcing completions than PBUs.
- 1:18:23Speaker 1: Both are tremendously low. Patten says it two, we have two,
- 1:18:27Speaker 1: Charles says four, Retro CNY says two, Andrew says my
- 1:18:33Speaker 1: guest is five. Will says two. The Buffalo Bill DJ
- 1:18:39Speaker 1: says three. The Buffalo Bills in twenty twenty five, right now,
- 1:18:42Speaker 1: through five games, they have two pass breakups, which is
- 1:18:45Speaker 1: last in the entire NFL. The Cowboys are thirty first
- 1:18:49Speaker 1: in the league, one spot above them, and they have four.
- 1:18:52Speaker 1: So the Bills are last in pass breakups with two,
- 1:18:56Speaker 1: and they are also last in forced in completions with
- 1:19:00Speaker 1: only four, so not great. And you know what's funny,
- 1:19:05Speaker 1: I want to we're their pass breakups credited to uh
- 1:19:11Speaker 1: Trey White was credited with a pass breakup when he
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: closed down on Tyreek Hill in quarters coverage in the
- 1:19:19Speaker 1: game against the Dolphins, and the other pass breakup was
- 1:19:25Speaker 1: Shaq Thompson when he drove Ratler tries to check it
- 1:19:29Speaker 1: down to Kamara over like the middle of the field
- 1:19:32Speaker 1: in the fourth quarter and Thompson closes really quickly and
- 1:19:34Speaker 1: essentially just like Spears Kamara and the kidneys. So one
- 1:19:38Speaker 1: only one pass breakup and months the secondary right now,
- 1:19:42Speaker 1: Andrew says, Trey got fifty. Yeah, yeah, Kevin says, Ajpanessa
- 1:19:48Speaker 1: has the other fifty falls into the forest in completion
- 1:19:51Speaker 1: standpoint because the pass breakup they charged, they give it
- 1:19:53Speaker 1: to like it's a coverage stat mostly, but yeah, AJ's
- 1:19:57Speaker 1: in the forced in completion category. Yeah, two pass breakups,
- 1:20:02Speaker 1: one for Trey and one for Shack Thompson. So only
- 1:20:05Speaker 1: obviously tremendously low forcing completions, tremendously low pass breakups, but
- 1:20:09Speaker 1: only one of the pass breakups is for a player
- 1:20:12Speaker 1: in the secondary, which is, and again I think that
- 1:20:13Speaker 1: speaks to especially on the back end, like the gaps
- 1:20:17Speaker 1: in coverage and how deep they're playing and how back
- 1:20:20Speaker 1: they're playing and space they're giving up. And it's again
- 1:20:24Speaker 1: partly they want to put caps on everything and put
- 1:20:26Speaker 1: the roof on an offense and keep everything in front
- 1:20:27Speaker 1: of them, and some is their safeties just getting a
- 1:20:31Speaker 1: crazy amount of depth. Even for again, I want to
- 1:20:36Speaker 1: say this too, things can differ based on how your
- 1:20:38Speaker 1: coach and how your defense and how your defense is
- 1:20:41Speaker 1: and how you operate. Right, And it's tied to opponent.
- 1:20:43Speaker 1: It's tied to formation, sit in tendency, down in distance,
- 1:20:45Speaker 1: all that kind of stuff, right, But within that there
- 1:20:49Speaker 1: are still some general rules. And I'm like coverages where
- 1:20:52Speaker 1: your safeties are like twelve to fourteen yards, the bills
- 1:20:55Speaker 1: are like eighteen to twenty, or if you're supposed to
- 1:20:57Speaker 1: be fifteen to twenty, they're like twenty to twenty five.
- 1:21:00Speaker 1: Kind of like it's just just a lot of space. Yeah,
- 1:21:06Speaker 1: good call, Good times, Trey. Yeah, Trey's one pass breakup
- 1:21:10Speaker 1: came against the Dolphins. It was that one in I
- 1:21:13Speaker 1: think the second quarter where if you're looking at the screen,
- 1:21:16Speaker 1: Dolphins are going from left to right. Tyreek Hill runs
- 1:21:19Speaker 1: that in breaker and Trey's sitting on it, drives on it,
- 1:21:22Speaker 1: reaches over him and just punches it right down. It
- 1:21:25Speaker 1: was in oh, the second quarter, right at the two
- 1:21:28Speaker 1: the two minute mark, and then I think he gave
- 1:21:30Speaker 1: up a couple complays. I think it was the drive
- 1:21:32Speaker 1: where he gives up the touchdown to Waddle in the
- 1:21:34Speaker 1: low red zone. But it was a great play by Trey.
- 1:21:37Speaker 1: And see that's my I know it does not weigh everything,
- 1:21:40Speaker 1: but those are the type of things I talk about.
- 1:21:42Speaker 1: I feel like nobody remembers that play. That was a
- 1:21:44Speaker 1: great play. He's had some really good, strong coverage plays.
- 1:21:47Speaker 1: He's also had some bad ones. I don't think he's
- 1:21:48Speaker 1: as terrible as everyone's making him out to be. But
- 1:21:50Speaker 1: he is much more suited to be a corner three
- 1:21:53Speaker 1: than he is a corner two, especially on a Super
- 1:21:56Speaker 1: Bowl contending team. And who knows may be, uh, you know,
- 1:22:03Speaker 1: maybe if Max Harrison is healthy, he wins that job,
- 1:22:05Speaker 1: or he gets a shot at this point, especially with
- 1:22:07Speaker 1: how they're working strong in but we'll see. And I
- 1:22:10Speaker 1: think he had a patent's point too. He said Trey
- 1:22:12Speaker 1: is tackling well too. Yeah, I think it's uh, he's
- 1:22:14Speaker 1: been better against the run and against like quick screens
- 1:22:16Speaker 1: and bubbles and stuff. So I don't think he's holistically
- 1:22:20Speaker 1: been terrible, especially when you're taking everything into account. While
- 1:22:23Speaker 1: do I do recognize he has been beat me, he
- 1:22:24Speaker 1: has been burned, which is been unfortunate. I also think too,
- 1:22:28Speaker 1: you can't necessarily look at the ones where he's just
- 1:22:30Speaker 1: getting targeted. Same thing with Benford, same thing with any anybody,
- 1:22:33Speaker 1: same thing with the From a wide receiver standpoint, you
- 1:22:35Speaker 1: can't just look at someone and see what they do
- 1:22:37Speaker 1: on the routes where they get targeted, or if you're
- 1:22:39Speaker 1: a corner, see what they do on the routes where
- 1:22:41Speaker 1: they get thrown at. You're looking at them holistically and
- 1:22:44Speaker 1: if you're watching them down in and down out. There's
- 1:22:46Speaker 1: good plays where Trey isn't targeted because he locked his
- 1:22:49Speaker 1: man up. There's places where Benford isn't targeted because he
- 1:22:51Speaker 1: locked his man up or was really sound in his
- 1:22:53Speaker 1: zone coverage and passing off and picking up. I think
- 1:22:57Speaker 1: a lot of things go under the radar, but you know,
- 1:23:00Speaker 1: disappointing at times. Yeah, Charles says, playing soft coverage in
- 1:23:06Speaker 1: the deep red zone kills me. You have no deep threat.
- 1:23:08Speaker 1: Shaking my head that one. I think. I don't think
- 1:23:11Speaker 1: the defense was ready, or I think Trey thought he
- 1:23:13Speaker 1: was getting help underneath because he gets beat and he
- 1:23:16Speaker 1: kind of looks like, dude, why didn't I have help
- 1:23:20Speaker 1: or something like that. I don't think he was, because
- 1:23:22Speaker 1: you're not going to give up that to your point,
- 1:23:24Speaker 1: You're not going to give that much space and play
- 1:23:26Speaker 1: with outside leverage in the low red zone if you
- 1:23:30Speaker 1: know that everybody inside of you is rushing or blitzing
- 1:23:33Speaker 1: and you have no help, or if you are, you're
- 1:23:35Speaker 1: going to get at least close and try and get
- 1:23:37Speaker 1: hands on somebody pressed, do something to kind of impede
- 1:23:39Speaker 1: the route. Trey was off and a little bit with
- 1:23:42Speaker 1: outside leverage given all that space to Waddle, who is
- 1:23:45Speaker 1: also a burner and can beat you anyway. I think
- 1:23:48Speaker 1: it was a miscommunication or again, doesn't excuse Trey, right,
- 1:23:53Speaker 1: doesn't excuse him get beat on that one of the defense.
- 1:23:57Speaker 1: But I think it was more than just like dude,
- 1:23:58Speaker 1: got beat. I think it was more of a mental
- 1:24:00Speaker 1: air defensively or within him. I'm seeing some stuff on
- 1:24:03Speaker 1: pressure rate. I do have those stats. I just kind
- 1:24:07Speaker 1: of bringing up right now in case anyone cares pass
- 1:24:11Speaker 1: defense right now. For the Buffalo Bills, they are bah
- 1:24:17Speaker 1: twelfth in pressure rate at thirty six point seven percent.
- 1:24:22Speaker 1: They are sixth in sack rate at eight point two percent.
- 1:24:28Speaker 1: They are ninth in sacks at thirteen, which is nice.
- 1:24:35Speaker 1: If anybody cares about blitz rates, they are sixteenth in
- 1:24:39Speaker 1: blitz rate at twenty five point nine, which I think
- 1:24:41Speaker 1: is interesting. And then if you're talking about time to pressure, ironically,
- 1:24:48Speaker 1: they have one of the longest times to pressure at
- 1:24:52Speaker 1: their thirtieth in the league at two point eight seconds,
- 1:24:54Speaker 1: so on average it takes them almost a full three
- 1:24:57Speaker 1: seconds to generate a pressure, which is not ideal. They
- 1:25:01Speaker 1: also have one of the higher get offs in the league,
- 1:25:05Speaker 1: and they're twenty six Their average get off is zero
- 1:25:09Speaker 1: point eighty nine. That's the team average pass rush get
- 1:25:12Speaker 1: off almost a full second there. But the pressure numbers
- 1:25:15Speaker 1: are fine, especially from a rate perspective. Again, your twelfth
- 1:25:18Speaker 1: in pressure rate and you are sixth in sac rate,
- 1:25:23Speaker 1: and that's without having at Oliver, without having Michael Hoyt,
- 1:25:27Speaker 1: without having Larry Ogunjobi. I do think there's still gonna
- 1:25:30Speaker 1: be struggle against the run when Ogun Joby comes back,
- 1:25:31Speaker 1: but he should help with the pass rush. What kind
- 1:25:33Speaker 1: of see what they kind of do from there? You
- 1:25:37Speaker 1: know what? We never have to figure out what someone
- 1:25:40Speaker 1: is gonna do. This is a horrible seguay. One pie
- 1:25:42Speaker 1: pizza the best pizza in Buffalo, New York. Never have
- 1:25:44Speaker 1: to figure it out. If you're getting one pie, you
- 1:25:46Speaker 1: don't have to be like, oh, I wonder if it's
- 1:25:47Speaker 1: gonna be good. It's gonna be good. You know why,
- 1:25:49Speaker 1: because it's the best pizza in Buffalo, New York. I
- 1:25:51Speaker 1: don't say that because they sponsor the show. They sponsor
- 1:25:53Speaker 1: the show because I think they are the best pizza
- 1:25:55Speaker 1: in Buffalo, New York. Sweet sauce pie, cup of chart pepperoni.
- 1:26:02Speaker 1: You get different toppings, they'll chop them up, sprinkle me
- 1:26:04Speaker 1: evenly across the pizza. They make their own homemade blue cheese.
- 1:26:06Speaker 1: They have a great breakfast pizza. They do great salads.
- 1:26:09Speaker 1: They have a catering division called Elevated Catering a Buffalo.
- 1:26:12Speaker 1: They will do different events or anything that you got.
- 1:26:15Speaker 1: The food is great, variety mac and cheeses, just different dishes.
- 1:26:18Speaker 1: Their food is sincerely awesome, and I can say every
- 1:26:22Speaker 1: week they're really good people making really good food. And
- 1:26:24Speaker 1: I say they're really good people because I interact with
- 1:26:27Speaker 1: them and I think they're good people. But also all
- 1:26:29Speaker 1: the different drives and initiatives that they do for the
- 1:26:31Speaker 1: city at large and Buffalo. You know, Toys for Tots
- 1:26:34Speaker 1: is coming up around the corner. They do that every year.
- 1:26:36Speaker 1: We got Toys for Tots, partner with the SPCA, partner
- 1:26:39Speaker 1: with the Alzheimer's Foundation, partner with Roswelter to try to
- 1:26:41Speaker 1: knock out cancer on Toys for Tots. I will be
- 1:26:44Speaker 1: communicating that to everyone once that is officially started. And
- 1:26:47Speaker 1: as usually is tradition with them, if you bring a toy,
- 1:26:51Speaker 1: you get a ticket. So if you bring five toys,
- 1:26:52Speaker 1: you get five tickets. You bring ten toys, you get
- 1:26:54Speaker 1: ten tickets. You fill them out. Every ticket gets entered
- 1:26:57Speaker 1: into a bowl or you know, selection for a raffle,
- 1:27:01Speaker 1: and you're eligible to win a multitude of prizes. They're
- 1:27:03Speaker 1: usually sports based, autograph jerseys, tickets to games, you know,
- 1:27:07Speaker 1: different memorabilia for the Bill Sabers, a bunch of stuff.
- 1:27:11Speaker 1: So yeah, get yourself some one pie pizza, get ready
- 1:27:14Speaker 1: for the toys for tots, drive bring some toys. You know,
- 1:27:18Speaker 1: if it's not enough for you just to want to
- 1:27:19Speaker 1: do some good, you know, you maybe want a prize
- 1:27:21Speaker 1: out of it. You can potentially get a prize out
- 1:27:23Speaker 1: of it either way. The food bangs. The pizza is amazing.
- 1:27:26Speaker 1: Everything they do is great. Go get yourself some one
- 1:27:28Speaker 1: pie pizza again. The online menu can be found in
- 1:27:30Speaker 1: the episode show notes, whether here on YouTube or whichever
- 1:27:32Speaker 1: podcasting Apple platform you're listening to this show on. Same
- 1:27:36Speaker 1: thing for the elevated catering of Buffalo piece as well,
- 1:27:42Speaker 1: Let's go to where's this comment from Andrew? Andrew says,
- 1:27:45Speaker 1: what data source do you use for the pressure numbers?
- 1:27:47Speaker 1: Et cetera. I vary for the pressure numbers I just
- 1:27:52Speaker 1: read off. I used next Gen Stats for the pass
- 1:28:00Speaker 1: breakup numbers and the forceing completion stuff. I use PFF.
- 1:28:03Speaker 1: I go between a combination of the two. I really
- 1:28:05Speaker 1: like a next Gen They're just different essentially. PFF is
- 1:28:08Speaker 1: a lot more human charting for things. Next Gen is
- 1:28:13Speaker 1: more AI or like automated charting from what I've learned
- 1:28:17Speaker 1: and been told. But I think they're each great. I
- 1:28:20Speaker 1: just really know. I like next Gen's user interface better,
- 1:28:24Speaker 1: but I like what PFF does as well. Oh yeah,
- 1:28:27Speaker 1: and then Andrews said, do you see the new Suomer
- 1:28:28Speaker 1: Sports AI tool? Really cool? Yeah? I saw a post
- 1:28:31Speaker 1: on it. I didn't dive into it yet or play
- 1:28:33Speaker 1: with it. I heard it's really cool. I'm gonna reach
- 1:28:36Speaker 1: out to them and kind of see or I know
- 1:28:38Speaker 1: there's a video on it. Maybe the video will answer
- 1:28:40Speaker 1: the questions I'm about to ask. So I'm about to
- 1:28:41Speaker 1: watch the video, but I'm going to reach out because
- 1:28:44Speaker 1: I'm close with a lot of their guys to kind
- 1:28:45Speaker 1: of see where they're pulling the data from, where it's
- 1:28:47Speaker 1: coming from, what's happening there. But yeah, I thought that
- 1:28:51Speaker 1: was super cool essentially like yeah, I was, like you said,
- 1:28:53Speaker 1: like chat GBT for stats. Yeah, essentially chat GBT for
- 1:28:55Speaker 1: football metrics, which is awesome and they do really good work.
- 1:28:58Speaker 1: So I'm interested to kind of see that, which will
- 1:29:01Speaker 1: be cool. I want to throw the banners is tootle, folks,
- 1:29:04Speaker 1: because we're gonna start to sigobye here. So for those
- 1:29:06Speaker 1: of you keeping charge keeping charge, I read your comment
- 1:29:10Speaker 1: Andrew that said literally just like charge of recent chat GBT,
- 1:29:12Speaker 1: and then Charge got in my head for those of
- 1:29:14Speaker 1: you keeping track at home, you know, so separating the
- 1:29:18Speaker 1: real concerns from the fake. For the twenty twenty five
- 1:29:20Speaker 1: Buffalo Bills, I do think the deep ball is a concern,
- 1:29:24Speaker 1: not a necessity to fix on the whole, but something
- 1:29:28Speaker 1: they need to improve in to some degree if you
- 1:29:31Speaker 1: want to get past the better teams. Again, they could
- 1:29:35Speaker 1: not fix the deep ball. They could run their offense
- 1:29:38Speaker 1: as they have been, and they're going to have a
- 1:29:40Speaker 1: pretty good fighting or puncher's chance at beating most teams
- 1:29:44Speaker 1: across the league. I just want them to be, as
- 1:29:47Speaker 1: you know, as invincible as possible. And with that being said,
- 1:29:51Speaker 1: I would like them to fix the deep ball a
- 1:29:53Speaker 1: little bit or get better with the deep ball a
- 1:29:54Speaker 1: little bit incorporated a bit more from a success rate standpoint,
- 1:29:57Speaker 1: from an EPA per dropback standpoint, and like we talked about,
- 1:30:01Speaker 1: the inconsistencies with it are due to a multitude of things.
- 1:30:04Speaker 1: It's not just one person or one aspect. So the
- 1:30:06Speaker 1: deep ball, I think that's real. The run defense, I
- 1:30:08Speaker 1: think that's real. The disconnect between Russian coverage, I think
- 1:30:12Speaker 1: that's real. The safeties, I think that's real. Offensive line
- 1:30:17Speaker 1: I don't think that's real. I think we'll see Josh
- 1:30:19Speaker 1: Allen kind of being a little skittish and bailing from
- 1:30:22Speaker 1: the pocket. I think it's real, but also not a
- 1:30:24Speaker 1: real concern because he's been that way. It's just been
- 1:30:26Speaker 1: glossed over because of a lot of the success that
- 1:30:29Speaker 1: he's had. Those are the biggest you know, questions, thoughts, comments,
- 1:30:33Speaker 1: things that I was seeing in responses to my tweets
- 1:30:36Speaker 1: and posts, and just kind of the scuttle butt on
- 1:30:38Speaker 1: social and across the media channels. If there's something I
- 1:30:42Speaker 1: missed or something that you think was a glaring thing
- 1:30:45Speaker 1: that's a real concern or a fake concern, feel free
- 1:30:47Speaker 1: to get at me. Tweet at me on Twitter at
- 1:30:49Speaker 1: pro underscore underscore ant on Blue Sky at pro ant
- 1:30:52Speaker 1: no underscores there. Just p R O A n T.
- 1:30:56Speaker 1: Should be back into the regular film cycle next week.

- 1:31:41Speaker 1: pull up I usually I don't, Andrew, I don't pull
- 1:31:44Speaker 1: up positive things for myself like this towards the end
- 1:31:47Speaker 1: when I buy myself. So I think it's corny. But
- 1:31:48Speaker 1: I just wanted to pull this up because for the
- 1:31:50Speaker 1: back half of what you said here, you said this
- 1:31:52Speaker 1: is my first live stream.
- 1:31:52Speaker 2: Welcome.

- 1:32:21Speaker 1: the bill's gotta be all agitated. I feel you ride
- 1:32:23Speaker 1: that anger. Just stay up at this point, brew some coffee,
- 1:32:26Speaker 1: just break the night and stay through. Oh, thank you, Andrew.
- 1:32:29Speaker 1: Content creation can be thankless. Nice job. Thank you very
- 1:32:31Speaker 1: much for that. I appreciate you, man, Thank you so
- 1:32:32Speaker 1: much for being here. I'm glad. I'm sincerely thank you
- 1:32:35Speaker 1: for being here. I'm glad you enjoyed the episode for
- 1:32:38Speaker 1: you know, for Andrew or for anybody. Yeah. Normally we
