- 0:00Chris Daily here at top section fifteen for the daily recap. Nice to see
- 0:05some help for Page in the second half. A lot of people stepped up
- 0:08in a good one against North Carolina today. You know, when it's been
- 0:13like this probably the whole year, when when we look good, we look
- 0:16really good, and when we play together and we run our stuff, we
- 0:19look really good. It's when we lose our heads a little bit that were
- 0:24we look fragmented and looks like we've never run off and so for long stretches
- 0:28and certainly the entire third quarter. I thought KK started it off with some
- 0:32of the defensive plays she made, and then you know, Page was Paige
- 0:36and actually made some great defensive plays like her blocks. And I'm glad she
- 0:41can't hear this because I would never tell her to her face that she played
- 0:45well and v But yeah, so it was good. I mean, we
- 0:50got contributions from a lot of people. I mean, Ash made a big
- 0:53three, Nika made some big threes. We were fumbling the ball, like
- 0:57we had opportunities like layups that we should make and could have made, you
- 1:02know, Aubrey and and alah. So that was a little frustrating, but
- 1:04we stayed with it, which is good, and we were able to,
- 1:07you know, beat a good team. A lot of it was self inflicted
- 1:11today, Yeah, and honestly, that's probably been the case in a lot
- 1:15of games. You know, some some of the you know, obviously you
- 1:19say it was a good team. Texas a good team, but you know,
- 1:22the turnovers are a lot of a lot of the turnovers are us not
- 1:26taking care of the ball, and we just have to, you know,
- 1:27continue to work on limiting those and getting people in the right position. I
- 1:33mean, you can't get in a better position than layup, So I'm not
- 1:34sure how we can do better with that, but we just have to make
- 1:38them. You know, those are things. We're going to be small all
- 1:41year, so we have to become better rebounding team. We can't be soft
- 1:44in the lane, regardless of our size. So that's something that they're probably
- 1:49going to get tired of hearing. But you know, we're not getting bigger,
- 1:53so we better get more physical and we better become more aggressive and better
- 1:56rebounders. Talk about the defensive end, I thought played really strong, especially
- 2:00to open up where they were putting a lot of ball pressure on North Carolina.
- 2:06It seemed to fluster them in the early going. Yeah, I thought
- 2:07we had a pretty good sense of what they were trying to do and how
- 2:10we wanted to defend it. I mean, Deja Kelly scores a lot of
- 2:15points for them, and we did a terrific job. We held her under
- 2:17her average, and I think that might be the first time this year that
- 2:20we held the leading score of the other team under their average, and we
- 2:23worked hard at that. I mean, whether it was Nico or KK and
- 2:28I think other I think as Norsky had what two threes, Yes, she
- 2:32had two threes. I mean that kid was six for eight from three in
- 2:36their last game. So I think that, you know, we seemed to
- 2:38lock in. I mean when we were locked in, we were really really
- 2:42good, especially on the defensive end. So we want to build on that
- 2:45as well. Nice to see Leah after she came out early third, she
- 2:49went back in. She became a force on both ends. Yeah, I
- 2:52mean it's not like I said, she's got to be able to bang inside
- 2:57and become an even smarter defender. We're gonna have to be able to give
- 3:01her some help when we can, but we're gonna have to to figure out
- 3:06how to defend and be difficult as a defender, you know, not not
- 3:09let them know where you are and and just try to keep moving and make
- 3:13it. You know, we can't, like I said, we can't grow,
- 3:15but we can certainly become a smarter defensive team. Morgan doesn't have any
- 3:19eligibility left. No Morgan Morgan. It had used her her five fouls already,
- 3:25So it was a physical game in there. It did seem to be.
- 3:29I think I let it get out of hand a little bit in the
- 3:30second half. There were a couple of things. They were trying to make
- 3:32their run, and that's what you have to do. If you're gonna make
- 3:36your run, you're gonna have to be physical. You're gonna try to steal
- 3:38the ball. But you know, it's as I said, I've said before.
- 3:42Whoever has said that basketball is and non contact sport never played. So
- 3:46we handled it, got some you know, as I said, a tremendous
- 3:51performance by Page, and I felt like for longer stretches we weren't watching page
- 3:55play. We were playing with Page getting her shots and help her and her
- 4:00getting us shots. We're at our worst when we stand around and we watch
- 4:04page play, and that's just not. It's not fun for Page, it's
- 4:08not fun for anybody. It's not fun to watch. So we need to
- 4:13limit the amount of time that that we do that because if we can,
- 4:17if we can cut that out, then we become a better team. And
- 4:20generally when Page is productive offensively, she's awfully efficient the two games she's the
- 4:26Maryland game. In this game, efficient is all hack eleven or fourteen today.
- 4:30You'll take that all the time. And that's what you guys always preach,
- 4:33the good players be efficient when you put a big numbers. I just
- 4:36wish she'd stop falling down every time she and not every you know, not
- 4:41every time you fall down. It's a foul. So you know, I
- 4:44just I wish because actually Dja Kelly does the same thing, although she didn't
- 4:47fall as many times today as Page, so maybe they were having a contest
- 4:51and I was unaware of it. But really with it, you know,
- 4:56she's got great body controls. She really you know, I think it would
- 5:00saved you know, her body getting beat up if she's able to do a
- 5:02little bit better with that. Now I get to the week for exams and
- 5:05then back at it on Saturday, and how do you approach practice during with
- 5:10a game on Saturday in the middle of exams. Yeah, it's hard.
- 5:13You know, they had the study hall last night, they had a study
- 5:16hall today, Exams start tomorrow. They've been preparing all last week, so
- 5:21it's hard. You know. We try to make the practices short and sweet.
- 5:26We you know, put it in during a time where they don't have
- 5:28exams, and hopefully there's a buffer between when they finish and when they have
- 5:32their next one. Some of them will be done, you know, sooner
- 5:34than others, but it's just something that we have to deal with and hopefully,
- 5:41you know, it's like anything, if there if they've waited to this
- 5:43week to prepare, they're probably not going to do great. So hopefully they've
- 5:47been preparing all semester and and they're ready for the final push and they'll do
- 5:51well and we'll be able to when What we hope is that when we practice,
- 5:56it's all about practice and they come with a clear head, and when
- 5:59it's about jams and studying, it's all about exams and they don't think about
- 6:01basketball, and that's hopefully the way we'll be able to approach it. Rock
- 6:04in the Blue Suit today, I like it very nice. The Navy,
- 6:09the Navy Blue, Navy Huskies. All right, Chris, thank you for
- 6:12coming upstairs. Appreciate it. Thank you,
