- 1:28ramblings podcast. Enjoy, inhale, T wall.
- 1:34All right, folks, hail and welcome back to Wren to the
- 1:39random Heathen ramblings podcast, and midgard music
- 1:42production. Hope you guys are having a great
- 1:45week and enjoying this extreme heat wave.
- 1:50Yeah, I'm not enjoying it at all one.
- 1:51Bit the day that this podcast was recorded.
- 1:59It broke triple digits. As far as the heat index goes
- 2:06and We shall see what it's like when this podcast airs because
- 2:13they're they're projecting it to just keep on climbing.
- 2:17So when I say hope you're enjoying the Heat and what I
- 2:21mean by that is I hope you're enjoying staying out of the Heat
- 2:25and that you're able to have some comfortable cool
- 2:29temperatures to chill out in this is the time of year where I
- 2:33am the most thankful to not have a warehouse job or Job where I'm
- 2:38like out in the elements all day because this stuff is brutal,
- 2:42and it's very, very dangerous. So be sure if you are having to
- 2:44be outdoors and whatever it is that you do that, you are being
- 2:48safe staying hydrated protecting and covering up the sun will get
- 2:53you man, it'll it'll it'll get you bad that you know, don't
- 2:58don't neglect the things that you need in neglect, but at the
- 3:00same time, be smart about it. So we are back again about to
- 3:07light. This incense as we have become
- 3:09custom to do here. I went really woodsy this week.
- 3:14We've got Pine and we've got Cedar, these are cents or
- 3:20Aromas. That are always like my
- 3:23favorite. You know, reminds me of the
- 3:26north where I'm from and reminds me of winter and those cold
- 3:32months then my favorite times of the year so, you know, the the
- 3:39Piney kind of Types of of incense and resins and stuff
- 3:46where we are like my favorite. So anyway, we got Pine and Cedar
- 3:49today. Maybe if we burn those Will
- 3:54invoke some or evoke guesses whichever one it is.
- 3:59Well we'll get some cold cooler temperatures I doubt it but
- 4:02that's not really the way this works but I think we're in for
- 4:05the Long Haul ladies and gentlemen, as far as the Heat
- 4:10and all that goes. It's interesting.
- 4:14I noticed this one. Doesn't produce as much clouds.
- 4:19Or smoke I should say, they're not clouds or smoke, which is
- 4:22fine. Still smells good.
- 4:25Mmm. Yeah Baby.
- 4:27Smells like a was like a Piney campfire, man.
- 4:30It smells like arvai. Wow.
- 4:35Flashbacks are very meaning, like the Sacred Space that our
- 4:40tribe, conducts are, you know, rituals and stuff in.
- 4:45It's all like Cedars and junipers and we burn a lot of
- 4:50it. We burn a lot of though The
- 4:51Deadfall that comes down and is Is the fuel for our ritual
- 4:56fires. So I guess it's the Cedar and,
- 4:59and the Piney Aromas that are really triggering some
- 5:03Nostalgia, and me, you guys have anything like that.
- 5:06You guys have any like, a Roma's tastes sites.
- 5:10Of course, you know but little things like that that trigger a
- 5:15memory, you know, sometimes maybe they're good memories
- 5:19sometimes maybe they're you know not so good.
- 5:22Memories. Hope they're good memories for
- 5:26you. I remember for the longest time,
- 5:30the aroma of Jim Beam triggered, some horrible memories of my, my
- 5:39young and crazy days where I would drink an excessive amount
- 5:45and get blackout drunk. And then not even know where I
- 5:48was. And next day or whatever, those
- 5:51are not some very fond memories. Those are Reminders of a time
- 5:59pass that, you know, you learn from.
- 6:02So maybe maybe we all have some things that even though they're
- 6:04not the most Pleasant of memories, they are reminders of
- 6:09kind of where we come from, you know, and where not to go back
- 6:13to. So, That's it.
- 6:19That's today's podcast. That just let some incense and
- 6:23told you to have happy memories from smells just kidding.
- 6:26We're not we're not ending it on that.
- 6:28Note of matter of fact, we have a good episode to go in today
- 6:31because we're going to cover a couple of topics.
- 6:33I think to good topics, one of which I've kind of touched on
- 6:37before. But I didn't want to go without
- 6:41acknowledging the recommendation from a supporter of you are a
- 6:45subscriber friend. Guard musings and of the
- 6:49podcast. And as you guys are out here
- 6:53listening watching, however you capture this and you'll be sure
- 6:55to check the link to relink that I posted in the description and
- 6:58show notes of every of every podcast.
- 7:00You know, these done these things are done as a as a labor
- 7:05of love and I've said this many times before so if you'd ever
- 7:09feel so inclined to want to, you know, toss a coin, to your
- 7:13Witcher, or pay the piper Patreon is a great way to do it.
- 7:18You can do that for as little as a dollar a month.
- 7:20It's a recurring monthly subscription thing.
- 7:23It doesn't get you any special perks, but you do get to know
- 7:26that you're helping support my time that I spend doing these
- 7:30things so they are labors of love and I don't need the money
- 7:34to do any of this because I will do this no matter what but it is
- 7:37nice to know that people have your back and want to see you
- 7:39you know value the time. That is spent because this is
- 7:44time. This is time that I could be
- 7:45spent doing other things. What?
- 7:46I don't know yet because this is this is what I've got my time
- 7:49spent. My extracurricular time,
- 7:55speaking of extracurricular activities and things outside of
- 7:59the normal work, life home life, what have you?
- 8:02Don't forget this Saturday in Springfield Tennessee.
- 8:06The Raven Moon Hearth Kindred is hosting their annual Sunnah,
- 8:09bloat, event information for that is going to be shared also
- 8:13in the description and show notes.
- 8:15I've talked about it before and I will be there.
- 8:17I will be there any very similar Ensemble.
- 8:20As you see me in now, Casting rooms reading rooms for a
- 8:25nominal fee. It is going to be a hot one so I
- 8:29probably won't be dressed hooded for the entire duration of the
- 8:33event. That would be ludicrous.
- 8:36I will be dressed in somewhat traditional garb trying to get
- 8:40into the spirit of it but a summertime Garb, you know, I'm
- 8:43trying to keep and keep comfortable but I'll be outside
- 8:48and burning incense burning resin, you know, Having the
- 8:52runes available to be read for you.
- 8:56So, consider coming out this Saturday day passes are $20, if
- 9:00you're staying overnight to campus 25, which includes you
- 9:02meal for the next day that is provided by revenue and how are
- 9:05they going to be cooking or grilling or doing something with
- 9:08food and stuff? They're providing for their
- 9:10guests and attendees, which is really awesome gesture and
- 9:14looking really forward to it, you know, with all the crazy
- 9:18heat that we're having the one on here lately, the projection
- 9:22For Saturday's, temperatures is actually going to be a cool 89,
- 9:2687, 89 degrees, which in comparison to, you know, upper
- 9:3090s and 100 degree triple digits.
- 9:35That is a significant Lee lower temperature, so maybe maybe
- 9:39we'll have some cloud cover. Maybe, we'll have some some nice
- 9:42breezes but regardless it is a celebration of the sun.
- 9:45It is, in fact, soon upload. So we will be celebrating the,
- 9:51the Wonder the The life-giving energy of Sunnah and it is on
- 9:57the weekend, leading up to the summer solstice, which means the
- 10:00days coming after this past does this?
- 10:03The next coming weekend will progressively start to get
- 10:07longer? So we will load to Sunnah and
- 10:10thank you for the blessings of of the Heat and of the son and
- 10:14of the life-giving Rays. And send her on a warm Center on
- 10:19her warm way as we part. Anticipate and prepare for the
- 10:24dark days ahead. So what else?
- 10:30Yeah. Before we get into the topic of
- 10:31today's discussion, I figured I'd just give you guys some
- 10:33updates on things. I've been posting a lot of stuff
- 10:35on the YouTube channel that is very much outside of the, you
- 10:40know, normal stuff that I hate that I even started midgard,
- 10:42musings for you guys are subscribers to the channel, you
- 10:46probably noticed there's been a lot more instrumental type
- 10:49stuff, you know shamanic rudge drumming.
- 10:52All's collaborations with Jam. Oleson over at a few of the tier
- 10:57Workshop as long as well as some little short videos updates on
- 11:04just things that I've had on my mind, hasn't been doing these
- 11:08Barefoot nature walks and it's been a really interesting time
- 11:13and today's, or I should say, Tuesday's update, you know, it
- 11:21is, it is, it's Extremely hot. So if you're going to be
- 11:23outdoors, you're going to be going to do anything in nature.
- 11:27Whether it be hikes, walks working, what have you and be
- 11:31mindful of how much energy you're exerting and be hydrated
- 11:34and all that fun stuff but you know all I do is I just go on
- 11:37his walks and and most of my walking Sure, you know, path
- 11:43trajectory whatever is in grass and it's mowed grass.
- 11:47So it's not too terribly precarious and you know, aside
- 11:50from stepping on a few rocks here and there or whatever a my
- 11:53God. And I don't have like the most,
- 11:54I don't have hobbit feet, you know, my soul's the soles of my
- 11:59feet are far from built-up or callous enough but I'm doing
- 12:03these like every day and trying to just get more of that energy
- 12:08from the earth, you know, getting my bare skin, my bare
- 12:10feet touching ground. Going into the earth.
- 12:13When I mean grounding, I mean, like really digging in, you
- 12:16know, like walking along the creek Banks, the river banks
- 12:18where it's muddy and stuff, and getting your feet dirty, getting
- 12:20it in there, man. And I've actually now that, you
- 12:24know, we've got a bunch of rain here and Middle Tennessee, and
- 12:27it flooded the river. And it was, you know, a raging
- 12:30River there for a while real dirty.
- 12:32But it's been several days since it rained last and, and it in
- 12:35the waters, come back down. So it's a much more typical
- 12:39water levels and it's great to just get out there and walk.
- 12:42Walk and Wade through the water. And let me tell you doing that,
- 12:46Barefoot II did this with Patrick my tribesmen and lost
- 12:54Baker. He's he spent some time with me
- 12:57over this past weekend to do some crafting and stuff for some
- 13:01tribal items of ours. Or one main tribal item of ours.
- 13:05Something that he contributed to artistically.
- 13:08But he came over and we went for a walk in and we waited through
- 13:11the river ourselves and I was telling him afterwards.
- 13:13I was like, it's not that you're like exerting a lot of physical
- 13:16energy to walk through the river that you can.
- 13:20Really feel, but when you're Barefoot and when you were, you
- 13:24know, carefully placing your feet on things that way you
- 13:27don't, you know, slip on a slippery rock or step on a, you
- 13:30know, something that's Jagged or could potentially harm you like
- 13:33your senses are so heightened your adrenaline's pumping, you
- 13:36know, you don't want to slip and fall and and all these kinds of
- 13:39things that I don't know. It like it heightens, all of
- 13:42those senses and it energizes you even more.
- 13:45So it's super invigorating, man. And so, I did that.
- 13:51Today where I went down to the to the river, the river banks
- 13:58and just wait it out into the water, you know, up to about my
- 14:01knees need depth or so, sat out there for a little bit on this,
- 14:06like, little island, you know, as it were, little little dry
- 14:10spot of land that kind of cuts in between a section where the
- 14:13river breaks away and just sat out there and listen to the
- 14:16water, sat on the on the bare ground. walked on the bare,
- 14:21ground, with my bare feet and I posted an update about the
- 14:28thought that I had was, How adversity, how how tough times,
- 14:36how, how things can really shape us as human beings as
- 14:39individuals and that we can prepare for those things in some
- 14:44sort of way. We can do things that in a way
- 14:46condition, us for the tough times ahead, you know, like I
- 14:51said that steel is hardened by being passed through fire.
- 15:00Or iron is tested. You know this is passes through
- 15:02fire. In adversity, is the thing that
- 15:06breeds worth in all of us. And when those Hard Times come,
- 15:11when you're faced with things, that can really challenge your,
- 15:15your faith, even your resolve and life, not just your
- 15:20religious views, but your spiritual views here.
- 15:22You know, I've heard so many things from people, losing their
- 15:25faith entirely too challenging, their faith, and challenging
- 15:29their deity or deities. Feeling that the sacred have
- 15:36abandoned them in some way because of being disheartened or
- 15:38being discouraged and don't know, I just got it.
- 15:43Got me thinking, you know, I'm out here walking around.
- 15:46It's like 100 degrees outside and I'm barefooted.
- 15:52Walking through the river walking through the woods, the,
- 15:56through the, to the trails, you know, leading up to the to the
- 15:59river banks. Taking that risk, taking that
- 16:03chance of stepping on something or just anyway, like the risk,
- 16:08the benefits outweigh the risk to me and I, you know, being
- 16:11careful, being Mindful and that sort of stuff.
- 16:14But doing the thing getting hot, you know, feeling that son beat
- 16:17on me and cause me to sweat and just be uncomfortable and, you
- 16:21know, walking through the river and feeling the sharp rocks,
- 16:24touch my feet, you know, slipping a little bit trying to
- 16:28catch my balance, you know. And just doing those things
- 16:31where, you know, an average person might be like, looking at
- 16:35you sideways going. What are you doing?
- 16:36I'm like, you know, this is as much of a healing thing, as it
- 16:39is for me. A prepare Tory thing.
- 16:41I'm preparing myself. I'm conditioning myself.
- 16:43I'm passing myself. Through the fire as it were to
- 16:47whatever extent and I'm not you know, I'm not saying that
- 16:51walking around in the sun is is a trial by fire.
- 16:54Although in these temperatures it can be.
- 16:56But what I am saying is that do something, do something that
- 17:00challenges you, that pushes you to your limit.
- 17:02And then when you reach that limit, maybe push a little bit
- 17:04beyond, don't be stupid. Don't be a wreck.
- 17:06Be Reckless, don't be an idiot, but try those things and
- 17:11wouldn't you know it. I posted it and I get I see a
- 17:15comment on one of my posts from guy.
- 17:17Tyler, David Vasquez. David T boss.
- 17:20Cos he's a he's written a lot of poetry for format Patriot Odin's
- 17:24beard Woodworking and he's been featured on the channel once
- 17:28before and in a live we got we had like a big room at virtual
- 17:34room where everybody kind of joined in on his own and we
- 17:36stream live for a bit but yeah he plays he posted a comment.
- 17:40He's like, yeah I would but it's just it's like in the 90s here.
- 17:44and I said, well, I mean I was outside and it was like 100
- 17:46degrees and I did this His response was okay I'll do it but
- 17:53I'm not going to like it. I'm going to complain it all the
- 17:55way and I was like, hey I nobody told you in a direct way.
- 17:59I mean I kind of made like a like I said, general statement
- 18:03of. Hey go out there and push
- 18:04yourself. Go push yourself to your limits.
- 18:07But he took that as a challenge or you took that he took that as
- 18:10a call to action and he did a post a little video tag me in it
- 18:15and I'm like, in that great, isn't that great to see that?
- 18:22Something that, you know, we say something that we do, it's not
- 18:26just saying it's like showing it as an example.
- 18:28Like I can sit here and talk to you about how great, you know,
- 18:32drinking scotches. And if I'm never sitting here
- 18:35with a glass of my hand, drinking it then.
- 18:37You might question. What the hell?
- 18:39I'm even talking about, right? But when I can sit here and
- 18:43describe the the flavors, the notes, the what you get on the
- 18:49knows what it's what the back end flavors are and all this.
- 18:52It's like, okay, well, now that he's If he's doing the thing and
- 18:56he's so it's, you know, same kind of way.
- 18:59And I just use that as an example, consider the front
- 19:00thing in front of my face jumps and I'm staring at but instead
- 19:03of being like yeah you guys should do this because I think
- 19:05it's a good idea and it's scientifically proven and
- 19:07whatever I'm out here doing it and I'm feeling it myself and
- 19:11I'm like why not share this with people, why not share this with
- 19:14folks to give them some inspiration and the inspiration
- 19:18may be happening. Unbeknownst to me.
- 19:20I mean there may be people out here that take what I say and
- 19:22you know, find inspiration in it.
- 19:25Don't post about it and that's, that's great.
- 19:27I mean, nobody's telling YouTube, that's your
- 19:29prerogative, but the fact that, you know, David did, that was
- 19:35really touching, you know. So David thank you for David,
- 19:39Tyler. We're in the South, I can't
- 19:42remember which one it is, but, you know, you are, it's the bosk
- 19:45is thank you for your gesture of, and, and good on you, man,
- 19:49like good on you for being for feeling that motivation, you
- 19:54know, being Elevated to go out and do something, you know, and
- 19:58that's where it starts, you know, wherever you are wherever
- 20:01you're at, no matter what it is. If you're not where you want to
- 20:06be, then the only way to get to where you want to be, is to take
- 20:09that first step. You know, I'm not where I want
- 20:12to be, but I'm also not where I was, you know, not a week and a
- 20:18half ago. Well heck I wasn't even where I
- 20:20was a week ago, you know, as far as like, my my weight, my, my
- 20:25health, my mental health might just everything, you know, I
- 20:29want to achieve a goal and keeping your eye on.
- 20:34The prize focusing on that being dedicated being disciplined
- 20:38enough to do that. You know, this is a great way of
- 20:40honoring our ancestors because it took that very thing.
- 20:44It took those types of things for our ancestors to survive.
- 20:48You know, it took motivation, it took dedication.
- 20:50It took discipline. And so when we do these things,
- 20:55you know, we're not just, we're not just healing ourselves,
- 20:58we're not just doing good for our self in the now, we are
- 21:01honoring our ancestors. We are doing things that honor,
- 21:03their struggle and their legacy that they left behind.
- 21:06We are feeding from the well, right?
- 21:11We are, we are pulling up from from the layers of or log the
- 21:15Primal layers of luck that have been left down for us and we're
- 21:21using that to grow our own luck and to end to add more layers to
- 21:26the well. And then for our descendants
- 21:28down the road, when we become ancestors for them to pull
- 21:32strength from. So you see, it's very holistic
- 21:35and it's a, it's a wonderful thing to be a part of.
- 21:38So if you haven't yet, you know, and you're wondering what the
- 21:42heck? We're talking about.
- 21:43Just take a moment, doesn't have to be a very long while I could
- 21:46just get outside and put your feet in the ground, put your
- 21:48feet in the grass, which feet in the dirt get dirty, get sweaty.
- 21:52You know, and just didn't feel what it's like to.
- 21:57Exert some energy and then push yourself past your comfort zone.
- 22:04We are amazing, creatures human beings.
- 22:07We are capable of so much more than we give ourselves credit
- 22:09for. But all right, that's enough of
- 22:12the inspirational. Woo type stuff.
- 22:15Maybe not even woo but it's a Move on to the topic of
- 22:20discussion for today or topics of discussion for today.
- 22:23So the first one is going to be on a post that I made some some
- 22:35weeks ago. And it was, you know, like a
- 22:41call to folks a you know, what do you want me to talk about
- 22:45here on the podcast or what are some things that we could talk
- 22:48about? What are some things that we
- 22:49could ramble on about? We got some really great
- 22:52suggestions and one of them is from Cory Corey T.
- 22:58I'll just for the sake of, you know, people's identities and
- 23:03keeping people safe. We'll just say Corey T.
- 23:06So Corey wants us to talk about the topic of dealing with
- 23:11relatives or friends asking us to participate in something
- 23:17which is mainly considered considered A secular thing.
- 23:22So for instance, he's talking about being asked to be a
- 23:25godparent or standing in a wedding and he says chaplain in
- 23:32a hospital. So, you know, I think that what
- 23:39I'm understanding at least from the nature of the question, or
- 23:42the nature of the statement is to talk about how do we deal
- 23:46with these things that are that are mainly secular that are not
- 23:49religious that don't necessarily have any religious, or spiritual
- 23:54backgrounds. And, you know, I've even talked
- 23:56on this podcast enough or if they are religious that they are
- 24:00something separate from, from Heathen, read from from Pagan
- 24:04practices, pagan Engine religious practices, you know?
- 24:09And I've talked about this on this podcast before with the
- 24:12challenges that we can face of dealing with family members and
- 24:17friends that are of opposing beliefs.
- 24:20I have very close friends and people that I would consider
- 24:25brother, you know to me kin to me of opposing religious beliefs
- 24:32and it's never been a thing that has stopped us from developing a
- 24:35deep and And rooted bond with each other.
- 24:39The religious and doesn't religion is not the thing that
- 24:43prevents people from having meaningful relationships.
- 24:49Because if it were, I wouldn't have half of friends that I've
- 24:51had and still have. So, I've talked about that, you
- 24:56know, I've talked about dealing with spouses, or being in
- 25:00relationships with people of opposing, religions, are doing
- 25:04things like that. So this Seems a much like and
- 25:07those are some pretty you know, delicate and even challenging
- 25:11scenarios to navigate through, right?
- 25:15Because of so many variables that can take place and all of
- 25:18those types of things, this seems to be a very rudimentary
- 25:24easier response just based on the fact that we're talking
- 25:27about things, That are secular. They are what they are,
- 25:32regardless of your religion and regardless of what your beliefs
- 25:35and all that are. So, let's just use some examples
- 25:38right now. The Godparent thing that is a
- 25:42religious or at least has it has its connotations roots, or
- 25:49maybe, not Roots, but you're not going to.
- 25:52You're not going to ask somebody to be a godparent to someone
- 25:54unless you were intertwined somehow into the Catholic faith
- 25:59faith. At least not so much as I've
- 26:01heard, I could be wrong with that, but I think that being
- 26:03godparents is is a strictly. Catholic thing if I'm wrong I'm
- 26:11wrong but it's for some reason it sticks in my mind that it's
- 26:15just a Catholic thing. so, I don't know, you know, let's say
- 26:20I had I'll just use myself as an example and then you guys can
- 26:25assimilate, you know, however you want to about it with your
- 26:28own beliefs or your own approach to things.
- 26:31But if I were to be asked by somebody of my family and I
- 26:34don't have any family that are Catholics, but if I did, you
- 26:37know, and there was a request of me to be that child's got
- 26:44child's godparent. First of all, you going to ask
- 26:49me to be a Godfather then I'm gonna I'm gonna I'm gonna swell
- 26:55up like this and I'm gonna tell you you just made me an offer
- 27:01but I couldn't refuse. I can I do that but I would I
- 27:09would I would look at the gesture.
- 27:11I would I would consider the gesture as being something of a
- 27:14very something. Something very meaningful,
- 27:17right? You don't just wake up one
- 27:18morning, look through, you know, your Facebook feed or swipe on
- 27:23the social media app and be like, alright, who do I want to
- 27:25be my godfather today, right? Like that's a really important
- 27:29position to carry some. That's an important
- 27:34responsibility and it carries with it, I think, you know,
- 27:37census of obligation. But I think that Because of that
- 27:44because of the importance behind it, I would feel very honored
- 27:47you know, and I would just want to know I guess, you know
- 27:50without knowing the specifics behind that I mean, is it just,
- 27:53you know, I'm your legal guardian.
- 27:55I mean, what are some, what are some of the quote-unquote
- 27:57requirements? I mean am I going to have to do
- 27:59anything specific? Like I guess, you know, I would
- 28:02I would consider that as long as it doesn't do anything to damage
- 28:06my Experience with my My Religion, right?
- 28:12How I, how I experience life with the gods and of a tear and
- 28:15my ancestors and all that, then for sure, I would except I mean
- 28:19it doesn't hurt if anything it allows us to especially for
- 28:23something like this, right? I mean be the Godparent of
- 28:27somebody's child. Adoption was a very commonplace
- 28:33thing and dramatic Society in pre-christian times and no, no.
- 28:36It's been a very obviously common thing in many.
- 28:39It's not just isolated to Germanic culture but adoption
- 28:44was a thing that you know, when you are adopted into a family,
- 28:48you were a part of that family became part of that family.
- 28:50That was your family and all of the luck and all of the things
- 28:56that that family benefited from now became Available to you
- 29:02through again. This whole thing we talked about
- 29:04for the the concept of we are written or log and all these
- 29:07things. So in that way, you know, to be
- 29:11to be asked to be someone's Godparent.
- 29:13I would consider that in my acceptance or decline of the
- 29:19offer. Right?
- 29:20Because who am I time myself to what am I?
- 29:24What are my bonding myself with whom?
- 29:26I bought it myself with. How's it going to, you know,
- 29:29perpetuate and extend and manifest well for my look.
- 29:34So there's that thing to consider but, you know, it
- 29:38doesn't, it doesn't Something like that wouldn't be the thing
- 29:42that that harms our hurts, not that I know of anyway your your
- 29:47experience and your relationship with the gods, you know what I
- 29:50mean? Because first of all, the gods
- 29:51aren't going to be up there being like, Oh no, you know,
- 29:53Jesse's over here, you know, becoming the Godparent, you
- 29:57know, that's a Christian thing, we don't like him now, I don't
- 30:00care. You know what I mean?
- 30:03And they are the ones that people seem to be cared about
- 30:05the most was the gods going to say.
- 30:06They gonna be mad at me my, you know, my am I betraying the
- 30:09gods? Are they, are they going to, you
- 30:13know, Withdraw themselves from my life, and these sorts of
- 30:17things. The Vets here and our ancestors
- 30:21and those are, those are the snow.
- 30:22The spiritual relationships that we have of the beings that exist
- 30:28near and around us. That's what I'm more concerned
- 30:30about. You know, what am I going to do?
- 30:31That's going to be good for my relationships with them since I
- 30:35share space with them, the gods are on their level.
- 30:38And yes, I do things with myself and with my tribe to get the
- 30:43God's attention to appease the gods or to appeal to the gods,
- 30:47even and time. Is when, and when, and when it
- 30:50is appropriate and but, you know, being someone's Godparent,
- 30:57doesn't hurt my relationship with the Gods in that sort of
- 31:00way. I think, if anything limiting
- 31:04myself to reasons of not accepting it because it's not a,
- 31:10it's not a key than thing. It's a Christian thing or it's a
- 31:12Catholic thing. You know, if I were to limit
- 31:14myself based on that and, and not look at the overall picture
- 31:18then And I think I would be doing more damage by not.
- 31:22You know, becoming a godparent to somebody.
- 31:25If, if the situation called for animal and it was right and it
- 31:28was good for the situation, you know, for all parties involved.
- 31:35you know, in some of the other examples that Corey gives right
- 31:38standing in a wedding, His chaplain in a hospital.
- 31:41I'm assuming, you know maybe funerals can also be tossed into
- 31:48their baptisms. I'm going to throw baptisms in
- 31:51there because that is a very specific religious experience.
- 31:57You know that or that that is a very specific ritual.
- 32:00I've got the Christian religion and I do say ritual because it
- 32:02is very, it is a ritual. I had the opportunity to attend
- 32:09my nieces Baptism a couple of months ago.
- 32:16And yeah, I I went to church, you know and guess what I didn't
- 32:20burst into flames and and in the Christians there didn't try to
- 32:25burn me. You know, at the stake they
- 32:27didn't try to throw me out, whatever.
- 32:29They didn't try to kill me there in the at the altar.
- 32:31It was, it was really nice. It was it was a nice experience
- 32:35to be a part of and and just seeing the Actually, learned
- 32:39some things, you know what I mean?
- 32:40Like, you can learn something, you can learn anything from
- 32:43anywhere. It's, you know, wisdom is wisdom
- 32:45regardless of where it comes from.
- 32:50And the reason I did it is because of the amount of
- 32:53connection that I have with my niece, through my wife and how
- 32:58much of a bond I've established with my niece.
- 33:01You know, she's not going to remember her own baptism because
- 33:05she's less than a year old, right?
- 33:09She's going to have video, she's going to have a memory.
- 33:11She's going to have something to look back on pictures of herself
- 33:14as an infant right later on down the line.
- 33:17She's going to have pictures of that and she's going to see
- 33:18pictures with her aunt and her uncle, my wife and I and you
- 33:26know, she's not going to see pictures with other people who
- 33:28weren't there that were or should have been there, you
- 33:32know? And when I when I think about
- 33:38the impact That has when I think about what it means to somebody
- 33:42to know that they had a person in their life that cared enough
- 33:45for them from such a young age to want to be there to be a
- 33:48positive presence, in a positive influence in their life.
- 33:51You know, that is some really strong luck to lay down boy,
- 33:56that is some really strong. You know, it goes into your
- 34:02refrain you know your reputation I think it goes into a lot of
- 34:05things your main, you know, Oh, the might the kind of the power
- 34:10that you have, that, that that gets built on or over time and
- 34:15through certain deeds and through certain actions.
- 34:20You know, you just need to leveling up and like, all right.
- 34:24So, you know, standing it and a wedding, you know, you've been
- 34:27asked by someone whether it's the groom or the bride, even ask
- 34:32someone on their very, very special and important day to be,
- 34:35not just an attendee, but to be an honored member of their
- 34:39wedding party, right? And to stand with them at their
- 34:42wedding, you know? So I think every situation is
- 34:47different, you know? I mean, sometimes a situation
- 34:49might be like, hey, you know, this is a totally irrational
- 34:52thing to be doing this is not a cause for celebration.
- 34:56I I 100% do not support this. I don't think that stuff like
- 34:59that. Those those situations don't or
- 35:03they might have, you know, religious purpose and reasoning
- 35:08behind the decision making, but, you know, be careful of it.
- 35:12I think, you know, be be aware that That sort of thing can.
- 35:19Perhaps Cloud your vision and and keep you from thinking
- 35:25rationally and logically. If you fall you're thinking
- 35:28about is, you know, the gods and then stuff that are in here
- 35:32present with us, you know, if you want to think about anything
- 35:36is you know, what would You know, how well does this reflect
- 35:40on my luck and win? How much, how much is how?
- 35:43Well does this reflect on my ancestors?
- 35:46And then, what would they would, they be pleased?
- 35:50Am I honoring their legacy that sort of thing?
- 35:52Those are those are honestly a lot of what I'd look at.
- 35:56It's not what my ancestors would think.
- 35:59Because I mean, It's better to do things whether it's right or
- 36:05wrong then to not do things. So at some point in time, you're
- 36:07going to do things that your answers are going to be going.
- 36:11What did you just do? Right.
- 36:13But at least you did something so I, you know, I don't know.
- 36:16I think it's a mix of doing something that I know what I
- 36:20think my answers would be proud of and that I am honoring their,
- 36:24their life and their legacy. But also, then that I am doing,
- 36:28is that what am I doing now? That's going to, you know, set
- 36:32me up good later on and add good luck to the well.
- 36:36Now, so I hope that that's where the question or where the topic
- 36:43was meant to go Cory and if it wasn't, maybe feel free to DM me
- 36:47or shoot me an email. Or call into the midgard musings
- 36:51hotline 6. 1, 5 6, 7 1983 to in case I miss something or in case
- 36:57I that's where I saw that that comment coming from you know and
- 37:02that's that's what I thought of when when when you wrote it I
- 37:07hope that answers it and hope that it's worth all your time to
- 37:10consider the other topic that I did want to briefly touch on
- 37:15before we wrap this up. Though is another Are supporter.
- 37:20Luke, Luke h. So thank you, Luke.
- 37:24Who says, is there such a thing as a gratitude bloat?
- 37:29How to say thank you to the gods, rather than requesting
- 37:34things of them? And this one I thought was very
- 37:37interesting because there's differences between bloat and
- 37:46what might be called a fainting or an offering, you know what I
- 37:48mean? Like there's there's there's
- 37:49very there's significant differences to what those things
- 37:53are but they are often just lumped into the being the same
- 37:58thing. Oh you know, I'm going to love
- 38:00you, I'd even settle on the podcast before, you know, for
- 38:02Sunnah bloat. You know, there's going to be
- 38:04bloat. There's going to be a bloat.
- 38:07I don't think that bloat is going to be done in the
- 38:10historical lie. Accurate sense.
- 38:13I don't think that there's going to be animal blood used in an
- 38:21animal sacrifice and that sort of thing for for this event and
- 38:25has an in the past. So I don't think so.
- 38:28So what what makes a bloat upload is, is the is the
- 38:33presence of blood and there's a whole debate on on that amongst
- 38:37various heathens and such. But from what I understand, from
- 38:40what I know from when I I've research is that bloat?
- 38:43In the historical sense, was held to the gods.
- 38:47That's very specific times for specific events and for specific
- 38:50reasons, doing very specific things.
- 38:54Now give ting to the gods often faintings, the offerings.
- 38:59That sort of thing, things that don't consists of animals, it
- 39:01could be Libations. It could be smoke fire as a
- 39:06means of sending the the gift and that sort of thing time.
- 39:12Study the our time is valuable, right?
- 39:14So gifting of our time to, to achieve something, you know,
- 39:20with no, well, not even to achieve it, but just a gift it
- 39:23right here, I'm giving you my time and you don't have to pay
- 39:27me back for, it's a gift, whatever, these types of things
- 39:31are to be that, that's really mostly where it's at, like the
- 39:35bloat thing. Like, yes they are.
- 39:37They are sacrifices to the gods to hope for better.
- 39:41Things or to pray for those things or you know, blow to
- 39:45Victory, a blow to, you know, the gods for a good harvest or
- 39:51for success and victory in battle and all these other
- 39:53things that we read about in the Sun.
- 39:55So the sagas and sources but just a feigning a gift, an
- 39:59offering that's more of what happens.
- 40:01I think especially at like the Hearth and individual home level
- 40:05like our cult level is you know, those things are gestures of
- 40:09gratitude those things. Gifts to say, thank you.
- 40:13Thank you for, you know, your presence in my life.
- 40:16Thank you for my success in life.
- 40:19Thank you for my home. Thank you for my health.
- 40:22Thank you for my children. Thank you for my wealth,
- 40:24whatever it is, right? I mean, I think that most of the
- 40:28time, if we're talking about percentages or whatever, I
- 40:32think, the percentage of time that people talk about
- 40:34gift-giving to the God's offering to the gods below, to
- 40:37the gods is really just a gift to the gods to be.
- 40:41Awful right, for four things. And to show that gratitude by
- 40:49You know, pouring out some Mead, some some nice whiskey.
- 40:53You know, burning a home-cooked meal or leaving fresh fruits and
- 40:58vegetables out to the veterinarian.
- 41:01Oh those are gifts, those are gestures of that engage Us in
- 41:05the gifting cycle. Reciprocation, which is one of,
- 41:11if not the most important things about being Pagan and a lot of
- 41:14different practices but Germanic paganism, Nordic paganism, Some
- 41:18specially the gifting cycle, the gift exchange reciprocity is a
- 41:25big part of our spirituality and religious practices because a
- 41:29gift, seeks a gift. you know, we gift Or in things we gift and
- 41:36hopes of returning or having that gift return back to us.
- 41:40And that's what we understand it to be.
- 41:42Is we do not enter into that exchange with any less than an
- 41:48expectation that something is going to come back from to me
- 41:52you know so yes it is a way of asking for something I think or
- 41:56hoping for something but it's also done I think mainly out of
- 42:00the heart of it all is to Be thankful be gracious and show
- 42:07gratitude. So you know as far as like the
- 42:11actual question goes if I were to read that again and he says
- 42:14is there such a thing as gratitude bloat.
- 42:17That's a fainting than man that I think that's a good.
- 42:19That's a gift below. Tis for again, very specific
- 42:24reasons at very specific times doing very specific things.
- 42:30And, you know, one could say that that that was done in the
- 42:36spirit of gratitude, right out of thanks.
- 42:39Thank you Odin for giving us victory in the last raid.
- 42:42You know, we now sacrifice this whatever it was to you for
- 42:48victory in the future. You know thank you for are for
- 42:51the Bountiful Harvest of summer in allowing us to you know reap
- 42:56the fields and Bounty. Now we are thankful and we give
- 42:59to you in our time of, you know, the the harvest season, you
- 43:05know, to bless our crops, you know, So there's I don't know,
- 43:13there's absolutely gratitude blowed if you want to call it
- 43:18that, but I mean it's feigning. It's offering gifts to receive
- 43:23gifts in return and then once you mean, once you enter into
- 43:26that gifting cycle, it's you don't lie, it doesn't stop, you
- 43:33don't let it stop, you know? It's a and it's a beautiful
- 43:38thing to be tuned into that, knowing that that's how the
- 43:44universe around. Us Works reciprocity is, it's
- 43:48cyclical and we live on a freaking sphere.
- 43:54The middle of this vast emptiness of nothingness, that
- 43:58is only growing exponentially into more nothingness.
- 44:00So the nothingness is expanding into more nothingness.
- 44:06You know, make sense of that and here we are.
- 44:12Making a ripple. And making change.
- 44:18Doing things engaging with sacred beings and spirits around
- 44:24us because that's what we are. We are, we are sacred beings.
- 44:27We are, we have that level of sacredness of within us.
- 44:30We have that sacred and divine inspiration.
- 44:33Through the older orders, I think it is, is that it sort of,
- 44:38yeah, ordered that that sacred divine inspiration.
- 44:43That was one of the things that in the creation myth and more to
- 44:47paganism is you know Odin vili and ve a in part do three
- 44:52different things to mankind. One of those things is that
- 44:55Divine breath at the vine inspiration, the cognitive
- 44:58abilities and such so yeah, absolutely there is and the more
- 45:04you engage in it. Now, you know, I guess it's to
- 45:06be considered that, you know, it's better not to gift.
- 45:10Much or anything than to gift you know, too often or too much.
- 45:14So there's a balance there, there's modesty there.
- 45:17There's you know, you got to be everything in moderation, right?
- 45:23But yeah, it's definitely definitely a thing there is such
- 45:27a thing as that Luke, you know, and then find that place, find
- 45:32that opportunity to do it and there's nothing, something to be
- 45:36formal, you know. I have gifted things randomly to
- 45:41people, just because, and I've had things gifted randomly to
- 45:44me, just because you know, and that's very refreshing is very
- 45:47nice and it really and it secures something, you know,
- 45:52that first step that step to just randomly gift to someone
- 45:55out of thanks, I appreciate what you do.
- 45:56Here's, you know, here's something to show my gratitude.
- 46:00What does it do for you as a human being was I do for you as
- 46:02an individual, right? It really like wakes you up and
- 46:05go. Wow!
- 46:06That made me feel really good and I want to go do that for him
- 46:08or her. Them you know, or in and keep
- 46:11that thing going because it made me feel good, it's going to make
- 46:14them feel good, same kind of thing, you know.
- 46:18Yes. The gods with the gods and they
- 46:20are, they are sacred, and they are Divine.
- 46:23And yet they have they have made themselves accessible to us, you
- 46:28know? And and when we do certain
- 46:30things, you know, no matter. Whether we are in the profane
- 46:34and they are in the sacred Realms.
- 46:37You know, when we connect them, we were able to Are moments with
- 46:40each other. I can't help.
- 46:43But think that, especially of the moment as it is for us to
- 46:47feel that it is special in a way for them, to feel our presence
- 46:52with them. You know, some people may not
- 46:56think about that. They may put the gods too far
- 46:59above Humanity mankind, which is fair.
- 47:04They are again, they are, they are sacred, they are gods.
- 47:08They have the powers, they have, they have things that are not
- 47:10the same as what we do. And we have powers as well.
- 47:16We have things we can do. and, You know. not to not to again
- 47:26compare ourselves to the gods as it were, but I can't help but
- 47:30think that there are times when the exchanges that are Done
- 47:36between the profane and the sacred, leave an impact on both
- 47:42sides of the veil as it were, you know.
- 47:46So yeah, man, I hope that that a lot of different things that we
- 47:51talked about on today's podcast and we still got plenty of other
- 47:54things to talk about in the next few episodes and stuff. of
- 48:01season 3 going to be, I think I haven't decided yet how I'm
- 48:08going to break up the seasons. I'm done thinking of doing it
- 48:11summer and winter, right? Winter and summer but since
- 48:16that's the kind of That's the Nordic thing to do, right?
- 48:20They had they didn't have four season.
- 48:21They had they had winter or not winter and that's things like
- 48:25what it's been like here in Tennessee.
- 48:27There's, you know, the we really didn't go from Winter to Spring
- 48:30to Summer. It was like, okay, it's winter
