- 0:02Here's your host, Alex Garrett. While I have a few minutes here,
- 0:09I just want to say, I just want to say, it looks like
- 0:13New York City is coming back. Did you know? According to the New
- 0:19York City Economic Development Corporation, there is a sixty four point four percent rate
- 0:28of office visitation in Q two, up five point four percent points from the
- 0:36prior quarter. It's a post pandemic record, and furthermore, it means things
- 0:46are coming back now. The city reached fifty percent of its pre pandemic in
- 0:50office levels for the first time in early June, according to Cranes. But
- 0:55when you look at the numbers being crunched, it looks to me like things
- 1:03are coming back. The city's office occupancy clocking at fifty one point four percent
- 1:10for a seven day period ending November twenty ninth, up from two point up
- 1:15two point four percent from the week prior. So we're getting some different levels
- 1:22here. We're getting some different metrics, which is promising. It shows New
- 1:26York City's coming back. But what will it take to get one hundred percent
- 1:32everything? What will it take? I gotta know what's it going to take
- 1:37to get us at one hundred percent level. Will it be a reduction in
- 1:42crime, Will it be the media reporting good stories and about the cops?
- 1:49Even will it be I don't know, just some damn good news. I
- 1:57get Mayor Adams's frustration, but he's at twenty eight percent approval rating for a
- 2:02reason. I hate to say that, but I get his frustration that the
- 2:07media doesn't paint the best picture of New York. But when you cut budgets
- 2:15of the NYPD, especially especially, that does scare people from coming back full
- 2:28time. That does. But guess what, we can overcome that as a
- 2:38city and as a state. We can overcome that. We can say,
- 2:45hey, look at the numbers that we're getting, and let's build off that,
- 2:53and then let's reduce the cuts. Let's bring back a better force that
- 2:59can truly protect our city from even yes, emotionally diserb people. Let's fix
- 3:07bail reform so that, yes, we can have people locked up who deserve
- 3:10me locked up and and and not released day of or even moments after.
- 3:21So I get where Mayor Adams is coming from. He is the city is
- 3:24coming back. I saw it today. I saw it today, roller blanding.
- 3:30I had to really breeze through as I was telling one of my radio
- 3:34colleagues, breeze through traffic, foot traffic, that is because it was getting
- 3:38crowded, and we love crowded. We need crowds. This economy is thirsting
- 3:45for true rebound, it really is. But I want to see more courier
- 3:55and knives kind of pictures with wreaths and tree and offices that people can actually
- 4:01enjoy because they're back in the office, spending Christmas time and the holiday season,
- 4:09back where they should be in New York City. That's what I want
- 4:12to see. And I think you should two and I think you should two.
- 4:17But if we're gonna keep reporting how bad it is, let's also acknowledge
- 4:21how great it is that there is a comeback, a brew comeback afoot here
- 4:28in New York, is there not. The approval rating is totally because of
- 4:33this FBI situation, which nobody seems to understand might actually be retaliation for Adams
- 4:41speaking out against Biden's lack of help. When it comes to the migrant crisis.
- 4:46You have to put two and two together, people, You have to
- 4:50put two and two together. You can't just disapprove of a mayor because of
- 4:59the policy, and also because of the scandal when you don't even maybe recognize
- 5:03that he has been advocating for support from the federal government for a long time
- 5:12and the liaison from the White House. Biden couldn't even give his own time.
- 5:15He had to put a liaison, and that liaison has failed. Also,
- 5:19it's clear he's failed. Can we just say that? And so when
- 5:28Adams tells the city, hey, we're kind of stuck with this and whatever,
- 5:30that's not good. His defensiveness might rub people the wrong way and not
- 5:36acknowledging the real issues here. But at the end of the day, it's
- 5:45what we see and maybe what you see too. Email me Alex at alexanyc
- 5:51dot com if you're a city resident, Are you seeing what I'm seeing?
- 5:56Which was an uptick, especially on this Thursday, December fourteenth, an uptick
- 6:00people coming from New Jersey on the Path train, people coming off the subways
- 6:04in New York City to downtown Manhattan. That's what I saw. The crowds
- 6:12keep building. The question is can we get to the point where Monday and
- 6:15Friday, Monday and Friday have people here too. That's the next big test
- 6:23that would put us over seventy percent. I believe now we get over seventy
- 6:29percent, well we shoot off fireworks again like we did with like Governor Cuomo
- 6:32did with the whole vaccination process. I hope not. I think that's a
- 6:35little much, but it would be nice to see seventy percent again or more
- 6:40back in the offices of New York City. It really would, It really
- 6:45would. And so I just want to say, from my own perspective on
- 6:50a rollerblande in New York, I saw people today, I had a weave
- 6:55in and out of foot traffic, and that gives me hope this Christmas season.
- 7:00And that's the reason why I forge along, and I wrote about this
- 7:02on my word press. I forge along, and I'm uplifted to forge ahead
- 7:09this Christmas and Honka season because yes, I've had a lot of loss in
- 7:13this year alone, but those who have gone before us would want us to
- 7:18forge ahead in their honor or for ourselves. And that's what we have to
- 7:25remember when we get down, when they think of those who aren't with us
- 7:28this holiday season thing that they would want us to keep going, to keep
- 7:31forging ahead as God continues to give us the day to make it right for
- 7:36the world and within our own lives, I wrote my Alex g andyc dot
- 7:42com website. We have a lot of work to do to keep us from
- 7:47the dumps. We have to get Israeli hostages released. We have to pray
- 7:53Israel defeats Hamas this Honkas season. We have mouths to feed in New York,
- 8:01coachs to donate, and so much more to do this Christmas season.
- 8:03That that's what we should be focused on, not being down in the dumps
- 8:09and sad all the time. Yes, we'll have our moments, but we
- 8:13also have our big the big Apple to save this holiday season. I believe
- 8:18we have to work hard, love each other harder, and trust that God
- 8:22will put everything into place as it's supposed to be. For goodness sakes.
- 8:28The Son of the Father, Jesus Christ's birth is being celebrated once again this
- 8:33month on December twenty fifth. That should motivate us to work together, to
- 8:39work hard in honor of those who have gone before us, and personally myself,
- 8:43not worry about loss that lies ahead. Sure, I am terrified of
- 8:48what lies ahead, but I also remember that Christ healed in the now,
- 8:56in the now, and that's what we have to work about right now.
- 9:00Be anxious for nothing and be excited that there are crowds of people again in
- 9:07New York City. The only question is how do we keep it going into
- 9:11twenty twenty four and beyond into the new year. And I think it's highlighting
- 9:16great, great records being broken again in this great city of New York,
- 9:22all of his visitation hitting sixty four point four percent of pre pandemic levels.
- 9:30That's huge, That is huge, and I think we're gonna see a lot
- 9:37more in the days to come. At least, we pray, so God
- 9:45bless you this Christmas season, this holiday season, this season quans the season,
- 9:50and may you too be uplifted to forge ahead in honor of those who
- 9:58have gone before us and in honor of those who are working to save the
- 10:05Big Apple, because we're all in this together. Have a great day on
- 10:09the Alex Garrett Podcast Network.
