- 0:11Hello friends, it's Sean here and clever you, you have made it
- 0:16through to Friday. It's Friday.
- 0:19It's the 5th is it? Yes it is and you might be
- 0:23thinking Sean, where is Avon? It's Fridays.
- 0:26We want a double con refix. I'm afraid Avon is crook on the
- 0:31couch with a croaky, croaky voice and is not up to reading.
- 0:36So I'm afraid you're stuck with me.
- 0:38But not just me, but the God of the universe, whose wisdom is
- 0:42distilled and delivered to you and I in these wonderful little
- 0:47proverbs. And so today that is exactly
- 0:49what we are going to share together.
- 0:51We will sit at the feet of King Solomon and hear some of his
- 0:56advice for life or his observations about the way the
- 0:59world is. So without further ado, friends,
- 1:02let us dive in and celebrate some of this wisdom for our own
- 1:06lives today. Reading together Proverbs 19 one
- 1:11to six. Better to be poor and honest
- 1:24than to be dishonest and a fool. Enthusiasm without knowledge is
- 1:31no good. Haste makes mistakes.
- 1:37People ruin their lives by their own foolishness and then are
- 1:41angry at the Lord. Wealth makes many friends.
- 1:47Poverty drives them all the way. A false witness will not go
- 1:54unpunished, nor will a liar escape.
- 2:00Many seek favours from a ruler. Everyone is the friend of a
- 2:04person who gives gifts, and again, better to be poor and
- 2:13honest than to be dishonest and a fool.
- 2:18Enthusiasm without knowledge is no good.
- 2:21Haste makes mistakes. People ruin their lives by their
- 2:27own foolishness and then are angry at the Lord.
- 2:34Wealth makes many friends, poverty drives them all the way.
- 2:40A false witness will not go unpunished, nor will a liar
- 2:44escape. Many seek favours from a ruler.
- 2:50Everyone is the friend of a person who gives gifts.
- 3:04Our Lord. As we hear these proverbs, we
- 3:07see a different set of priorities from the one that is
- 3:12shouted to us from every billboard that we would pass.
- 3:17That actually honesty is more important than success or
- 3:20riches, and that if we do have things and even share them
- 3:25generously, that might buy us friends who are not real friends
- 3:29at all. And all that honesty is far more
- 3:34important then escaping some terrible situation through lies.
- 3:41Lord, you want us to emulate you and your character.
- 3:46Your character of honesty, standing up for truth no matter
- 3:50what the cost. And that truth will draw us to
- 3:54you, and that will be the most important thing we could ever
- 3:56need. So, Lord, I pray that you chisel
- 4:01away the deception from our hearts, that you break off the
- 4:06desire to lie, that you crack away all of the other opposing
- 4:11priorities and leave us with a deep desire to be your truthful
- 4:19followers, to speak your truth in this world, and to know that
- 4:25in You we will always hear truth.
- 4:30Truth of your love, Your grace, and your provision for us.
- 4:37And we're so grateful to you, our wonderful God.
- 4:39And we pray all of this in your name, Jesus, Amen.
