- 0:58Speaker 1: Happy Monday. Th week end is now officially over, and
- 1:05Speaker 1: I'm going to show you some live shots this morning
- 1:08Speaker 1: of some of our highways and byways which seemed to
- 1:14Speaker 1: be for the most part smooth sale in this morning.
- 1:17Speaker 1: Here's Hartford and Brookfield Roads, essentially wet, but a temperature
- 1:24Speaker 1: right now of twenty nine degrees in the Granite City,
- 1:28Speaker 1: so we're, you know, right at that freezing point. Please
- 1:31Speaker 1: drive carefully. Yeah, there's Brookfield, Hartford. We're showing you it's
- 1:36Speaker 1: the high spot of the interstate. And Bethel right there
- 1:41Speaker 1: on eighty nine and of course Exit ten in Waterberry.
- 1:47Speaker 1: Thanks to v Trans for getting these live pictures available
- 1:52Speaker 1: to us, so just go easy, man, can't say that enough.
- 1:58Speaker 1: Drive carefully. We'll give you the forecast here and tell
- 2:01Speaker 1: you what to expect today from Roger Hill twenty nine
- 2:06Speaker 1: again right now in Barry. Cloudy today across much of Vermont,
- 2:11Speaker 1: some snowshowers possible, and we're gonna warm up about thirty
- 2:14Speaker 1: five degrees tonight. Kind of the same story down about nineteen.
- 2:19Speaker 1: Cloudy tomorrow, lower forties. Wednesday forty five, mostly cloudy and
- 2:24Speaker 1: fifty with rain on Thursday. A perfect weather forecast to
- 2:30Speaker 1: catch a movie. It is five dollars Mondays over at
- 2:34Speaker 1: the Paramount Twin right here in Barry. Any movie, any showtime,
- 2:39Speaker 1: get over there. I think obviously the Twin Theater. If
- 2:42Speaker 1: there's two, you got your choice between the between the
- 2:46Speaker 1: two of five bucks. Get some popcorn. Going Capital Theater
- 2:50Speaker 1: in Montpellier. They've got five dollars Tuesdays, so pick one
- 2:55Speaker 1: and get the family out and catch a movie if
- 2:59Speaker 1: you can. Donald Perry on the birthday List today, along
- 3:02Speaker 1: with Marcel Gravell, who's going to be joining us real soon.
- 3:06Speaker 1: On the air as we get geared up for thunder Road.
- 3:10Speaker 1: Nicole Rosenboom, Jamie Lee, Shane Butler, Morgan Watkins, Chris Miller,
- 3:16Speaker 1: Rick Narcross. Happy birthday to each of you. I hope
- 3:21Speaker 1: you're off to a great start. I hope it has
- 3:23Speaker 1: been a productive weekend for you. Maybe you were doing
- 3:27Speaker 1: some spring cleaning, maybe you got out and you know,
- 3:33Speaker 1: went roller skating or whatever it was that you did
- 3:36Speaker 1: this weekend. If you traveled, I hope it was a
- 3:38Speaker 1: safe travel for you. Welcome back to the week Welcome
- 3:43Speaker 1: back to work, whatever it is that you're doing. Thanks
- 3:46Speaker 1: for taking Aired out along with you. Jody Emerson is
- 3:50Speaker 1: on the curvy couch this morning, of course from the
- 3:54Speaker 1: Central Vermont Career Center. I'm so happy that you're in here.
- 3:57Speaker 1: Good morning and welcome back. How are you.
- 4:00Speaker 2: I'm good, Thanks for having me back.
- 4:02Speaker 1: Jad, Yeah, what's happening? What's new? We have a lot
- 4:05Speaker 1: to talk about. First of all, you know the fact
- 4:09Speaker 1: that I'm following the Central from my Career center. I
- 4:12Speaker 1: see a lot of stuff popping up on the feed lately.
- 4:14Speaker 1: We got some students that are getting some high honors here.
- 4:18Speaker 2: Absolutely. Last week we had our National Technical Honor Society induction.
- 4:22Speaker 2: It was great. Twenty nine inductees this year, which is
- 4:25Speaker 2: the highest I've ever seen, so good work to those students.
- 4:29Speaker 2: There are some pretty high bars to get into that
- 4:31Speaker 2: and they've been doing that including community service, so it's
- 4:35Speaker 2: always great to recognize that.
- 4:36Speaker 1: I'm going to see if I could pull them up
- 4:38Speaker 1: on the screen here there, there we go. I got
- 4:40Speaker 1: them on the monitor in there. Twenty nine, So that's
- 4:43Speaker 1: more than what average.
- 4:47Speaker 2: Yeah, I'd say this is my fifth year of being
- 4:50Speaker 2: at CBCC and the first year there were twenty five,
- 4:53Speaker 2: and every year since there's been a lower number until
- 4:56Speaker 2: this year when twenty nine. So great job to these students.
- 4:59Speaker 1: Isn't it Isn't it refreshing to hear that there are
- 5:05Speaker 1: kids that are so actively pursuing a trade and frankly,
- 5:11Speaker 1: it doesn't really matter what the trade is, just the
- 5:13Speaker 1: fact that there's something that they want to do, that
- 5:16Speaker 1: there's something that they're interested in, and damn it, they're
- 5:20Speaker 1: going to do it and they're determined. I think that's
- 5:23Speaker 1: so great.
- 5:24Speaker 2: Yeah, it's great again as always wishing we had more
- 5:28Speaker 2: space to allow more folks to do that. We definitely
- 5:31Speaker 2: have more applicants than we can take in, but it's
- 5:34Speaker 2: so wonderful every day to walk through those programs and
- 5:37Speaker 2: to see students who are pursuing something that matters to
- 5:40Speaker 2: them and thus they're really engaged in their schooling, which
- 5:43Speaker 2: is great.
- 5:45Speaker 1: You just had speaking of enrollment and whatnot, you just
- 5:49Speaker 1: had like an admissions thing that.
- 5:51Speaker 2: Was Yeah, we finished up first round, accepted one hundred
- 5:54Speaker 2: and ninety four students in that first round, and that
- 5:56Speaker 2: doesn't count co op, so we would already be over
- 5:59Speaker 2: two hundred with the co op students and we're in
- 6:02Speaker 2: second round now, so those students will be visiting next Friday,
- 6:06Speaker 2: April third for their shadow interview, and so we'll accept
- 6:10Speaker 2: some more probably out of that. We do have some
- 6:13Speaker 2: programs that are full with a weight list already for
- 6:15Speaker 2: next year. The highest two we're Automotive and Exploratory this year,
- 6:21Speaker 2: followed closely by electrical and cosmetology and plumbing and heating.
- 6:28Speaker 1: I love to hear plumbing, heating, Electrical, I love to
- 6:31Speaker 1: hear that there's that that trade is something that people
- 6:35Speaker 1: still want to get into. My god, we need it
- 6:37Speaker 1: so badly.
- 6:38Speaker 2: Yeah, all five of those programs are full with a waitlist,
- 6:42Speaker 2: and then we have some others that are right behind them,
- 6:44Speaker 2: building trades, Cosmetology, I already said that, culinary, so already
- 6:50Speaker 2: filling them up for sure, welding, welding, thank you.
- 6:53Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 6:54Speaker 2: Yeah, that's the other one that's either full or just
- 6:58Speaker 2: one seat left for that second round.
- 7:00Speaker 1: So Automotive is pretty much right at the kind of
- 7:04Speaker 1: the top.
- 7:05Speaker 2: Yeah, it was top this year. They had over seventy
- 7:07Speaker 2: applicants for sixteen seats.
- 7:09Speaker 1: Okay, jeez wow.
- 7:12Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah.
- 7:13Speaker 1: So these are students that are graduating from U from
- 7:19Speaker 1: or or getting into getting into high school everywhere, and
- 7:24Speaker 1: they want to they want to come to they want
- 7:27Speaker 1: to come to the central my career center.
- 7:29Speaker 2: Yeah, we have six sending high schools, okay, and then
- 7:32Speaker 2: there are some students who apply from outside of that
- 7:35Speaker 2: region because we have a program that their regional technical
- 7:38Speaker 2: center doesn't have, and so lots of students who are
- 7:43Speaker 2: generally going into their junior or senior year trying to
- 7:45Speaker 2: access these programs.
- 7:47Speaker 1: What what do you what are these schools.
- 7:49Speaker 2: The any schools? Yeah, we have Cabot, Harwood, Montpellier, Spaulding,
- 7:55Speaker 2: twin Field, and U thirty two.
- 7:58Speaker 1: Cabot, Harwood, Pillier one more.
- 8:02Speaker 2: Time, Spaulding twin Field and you thirty.
- 8:05Speaker 1: Two, twin Field and You thirty two.
- 8:07Speaker 2: We often have students coming from Randolph, Williamstown, Northfield, Danville
- 8:12Speaker 2: as well.
- 8:13Speaker 1: Wow, so there's there's a pretty good line absolutely, Or
- 8:20Speaker 1: are some of these kids, for lack of a better term,
- 8:25Speaker 1: kind of aging out before their number is up.
- 8:31Speaker 2: I'm sure some of them are. And there there aren't
- 8:33Speaker 2: a lot of options for kids who are really wanting
- 8:37Speaker 2: to the trades and wanting to get into it sooner
- 8:39Speaker 2: than later. So if they don't, if they don't get
- 8:43Speaker 2: into our program and they want something hands on that's
- 8:46Speaker 2: maybe related to building trades, The only other option really
- 8:49Speaker 2: is youth build. There might be able to go to
- 8:52Speaker 2: you know, job corps, but that's pretty far away and
- 8:54Speaker 2: it has some different expectations around it. So while they're
- 8:58Speaker 2: in high school, this is the best if they know
- 9:00Speaker 2: what they want to do.
- 9:01Speaker 1: I'm seeing youth built everywhere. They're doing great things.
- 9:04Speaker 2: Yea, they are.
- 9:07Speaker 1: All over the place. I mean, it's just it's unbelievable.
- 9:11Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 9:11Speaker 1: The last time I had you in here, I think
- 9:15Speaker 1: it was the last time we were talking about the
- 9:20Speaker 1: the vote for the bond vote for the the the
- 9:27Speaker 1: possible new construction of the central from my career Center
- 9:31Speaker 1: up on Baptist Street in Graniteville, which was voted down.
- 9:37Speaker 1: I can't remember i've had you before the vote or
- 9:40Speaker 1: after the vote, But regardless, that was that was a
- 9:47Speaker 1: property that in a space and a design and a
- 9:52Speaker 1: dream that was seemingly in some ways almost too good
- 9:58Speaker 1: to be true. I mean, it was so beautiful the
- 10:01Speaker 1: idea there that the mock up that was created for
- 10:06Speaker 1: that was. What was the vote on that? Do you remember? Yeah?
- 10:15Speaker 2: It was close, but not close enough. I think that
- 10:21Speaker 2: what I remember I've blocked out that obviously. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 10:25Speaker 2: what I remembered is if maybe a thousand people had
- 10:28Speaker 2: changed their vote, we'd be okay, or if we had
- 10:31Speaker 2: had you know, two or three thousand more voters go
- 10:33Speaker 2: out that had said yes. And there was a lot
- 10:37Speaker 2: of support. I think that we know folks support career
- 10:40Speaker 2: and technical education. Those that voted it down didn't vote
- 10:44Speaker 2: it down because they didn't like CTE. They voted it
- 10:47Speaker 2: down because taxes are crazy and people are worried and
- 10:51Speaker 2: now with the price of gasoline, for example, like you
- 10:54Speaker 2: can understand why folks don't want to maybe invest in
- 10:58Speaker 2: that even though it is an investment in our future
- 11:00Speaker 2: in this community because if we keep growing the workforce,
- 11:03Speaker 2: we build that tax space as well. But so we yes,
- 11:08Speaker 2: we had that happen, and we gathered up all of
- 11:12Speaker 2: the feedback we could off of front Porch, Forum and
- 11:15Speaker 2: Facebook and different entities and kind of summarize that to
- 11:20Speaker 2: try to get out what do we need to do.
- 11:21Speaker 2: And the reality is you can never communicate enough. There
- 11:26Speaker 2: are too many people who don't know what's going on
- 11:29Speaker 2: at the Central Vermont Career Center or what we do,
- 11:32Speaker 2: who we are, and so we need to figure out
- 11:37Speaker 2: how to communicate that better. And we also realized that
- 11:41Speaker 2: we needed to drag people back through some of the
- 11:44Speaker 2: steps that we had taken, like this had been going
- 11:46Speaker 2: on since twenty eighteen, and folks weren't paying attention the
- 11:50Speaker 2: entire time, and then when we got their attention, it
- 11:53Speaker 2: was with a big number. And so we put together
- 11:56Speaker 2: a work group some of the people who had been
- 11:59Speaker 2: on the Facilities Committee and some folks who weren't, and
- 12:03Speaker 2: some that had spoken out against it, and brought them
- 12:06Speaker 2: in and went through all of the different possibilities that
- 12:09Speaker 2: we had explored in the past and a couple of
- 12:12Speaker 2: new ones, and they basically looked at six different options
- 12:18Speaker 2: and narrowed it down to three, and those are out
- 12:21Speaker 2: with cost estimators now, so that the work group can
- 12:24Speaker 2: get those costs back and narrow it down to the
- 12:27Speaker 2: one that they'll propose the board move forward with. And
- 12:30Speaker 2: so the Granite Street and Graniteville Baptist Street option is
- 12:33Speaker 2: still on the table. There's an option again of thinking
- 12:38Speaker 2: about if the state really wants regional comprehensive high schools,
- 12:43Speaker 2: then U thirty two should still be back on the
- 12:46Speaker 2: table as a potential site. So that was the second option,
- 12:49Speaker 2: and then the third is a multi campus option keeping
- 12:52Speaker 2: us partly at Air Street and Spaulding High School and
- 12:56Speaker 2: another site, and so there's two possibilities for that could
- 13:00Speaker 2: be more, but generally we're looking at what would it
- 13:03Speaker 2: cost to build a smaller center second campus at that
- 13:09Speaker 2: Baptist Street in Graniteville, or to purchase property on Vine
- 13:13Speaker 2: Street where there is a previously a church school was there,
- 13:17Speaker 2: So there are buildings there that could be renovated, and
- 13:20Speaker 2: what would that cost us to renovate instead of building new?
- 13:23Speaker 1: Yeah? Vine Street, Yeah, that's I can't remember what that
- 13:28Speaker 1: was called, but I think.
- 13:30Speaker 2: It was Central Vermont Academy made Academy.
- 13:32Speaker 1: Yes, nice building, I mean, not massive, but nice infrastructures
- 13:40Speaker 1: right there.
- 13:40Speaker 2: There's some classrooms there, there's a small kitchen there, there's
- 13:44Speaker 2: a gym.
- 13:45Speaker 1: There, gym yeah yeah, yeah. So wow. So those are
- 13:51Speaker 1: basically the the three things that we're looking at right now.
- 13:55Speaker 2: Yeah, those are the three that we're looking at right now.
- 13:58Speaker 2: We really had to throw the idea of an empty
- 14:01Speaker 2: school building when schools merge together off the table because
- 14:06Speaker 2: you can't cost that. We don't know what building we're
- 14:08Speaker 2: looking at and what it would need, so there's not
- 14:12Speaker 2: much we can do unless something actually comes available. So
- 14:15Speaker 2: I think there's these three options that we're going to
- 14:18Speaker 2: be able to look at or that hold off again. Yeah,
- 14:23Speaker 2: and if we do that, what are we going to
- 14:24Speaker 2: do for the kids who are wanting access and we
- 14:26Speaker 2: just can't provide it right now?
- 14:28Speaker 1: Sure, this is why I absolutely love having you in here,
- 14:35Speaker 1: because when you come in here, Jody, I always get
- 14:39Speaker 1: a lot of comments and interaction from the community, and
- 14:42Speaker 1: I just love that connection. Donna's asking if the LNA
- 14:47Speaker 1: program is going to be.
- 14:49Speaker 2: Returning interesting good timing on that ask. We have a
- 14:53Speaker 2: meeting with Central Vermont Medical Center today to talk about that,
- 14:57Speaker 2: so hopefully fingers crossed. I mean, the problem has been
- 15:00Speaker 2: we haven't been able to hire anyone. We've offered that
- 15:03Speaker 2: position a couple of times and gotten turned down every time.
- 15:06Speaker 2: So hoping a new partnership with the Central Medical Center
- 15:10Speaker 2: will allow that to happen.
- 15:11Speaker 1: So maybe do we ever meet LNA's Wow, I mean, yes,
- 15:18Speaker 1: the demand is so high and.
- 15:22Speaker 2: Our students and medical professions, which is another program that
- 15:25Speaker 2: I think only has one more seat left. They get
- 15:27Speaker 2: a CCMA, which is clinical medical assisting, which is slightly
- 15:31Speaker 2: one step above the LNA. So they do come out
- 15:34Speaker 2: with that, and many of them with phlebotomy as well.
- 15:37Speaker 1: Wow, LNA one of the one of the toughest jobs
- 15:42Speaker 1: on the planet.
- 15:44Speaker 2: So true, So true.
- 15:47Speaker 1: I couldn't be in LNA for ten minutes, maybe.
- 15:53Speaker 2: Ten minutes, but probably not more. Yeah, I mean, yeah,
- 15:56Speaker 2: that's a tough job.
- 15:57Speaker 1: You're cut from a different cloth man, if you're an
- 16:01Speaker 1: l and A. I have so much respect for me.
- 16:04Speaker 1: Oh and and just to witness the countless LNA's that
- 16:11Speaker 1: just attended just to both of my parents, countless, you know,
- 16:16Speaker 1: just we're talking about mom and dad, two people. I mean,
- 16:19Speaker 1: what was it, one hundred l and a's over over
- 16:22Speaker 1: the course of a couple of couple of years. It
- 16:24Speaker 1: would be my guest. I mean, it's it's unreal. It's unreal.
- 16:30Speaker 1: Some great comments coming in. John Kidder says, I'm a
- 16:33Speaker 1: product of building trades, running a successful business in Vermont.
- 16:38Speaker 1: Thank you, Spencer Whitney and Don Merchant. My teachers were great. Awesome,
- 16:44Speaker 1: that's I mean, you know, Dwayne saying, hopefully everybody uh
- 16:50Speaker 1: blocks out the new Resource Center. Also I'm not sure
- 16:55Speaker 1: what that means the new Resource Center, but also says uh,
- 17:02Speaker 1: we fostered a kid that wanted to get into the
- 17:05Speaker 1: culinary program and couldn't tried several other programs and couldn't
- 17:09Speaker 1: get it. Pretty sad when a student can't get into
- 17:12Speaker 1: a career Resource Center program.
- 17:15Speaker 2: Agreed.
- 17:16Speaker 1: You know, when when somebody really wants to do something,
- 17:19Speaker 1: we as a community have to have the conduit to
- 17:24Speaker 1: make that happen. We've got to we've got to provide
- 17:27Speaker 1: the opportunity for them to do something, no matter what
- 17:30Speaker 1: the trade is. Yeah, you know, and cosmetology has always
- 17:35Speaker 1: been kind of popular, very and you know, I see
- 17:39Speaker 1: and I can't remember her name, but I see one
- 17:43Speaker 1: of the students that's graduated from the cosmetology department and
- 17:49Speaker 1: has started her own business. She's got a spot and
- 17:52Speaker 1: a salon going and everything. It's freaking awesome.
- 17:55Speaker 2: Yeah, so many of our students are out there. I
- 17:58Speaker 2: think one of the things that we're gonna highlight in
- 18:00Speaker 2: the future is our alumni. We're not doing a good
- 18:03Speaker 2: enough job with that. We started an alumni wall at
- 18:06Speaker 2: the center and so there's a couple of postings on
- 18:10Speaker 2: that wall and we've been putting that in our newsletter,
- 18:12Speaker 2: and we need to do more and so we're thinking
- 18:14Speaker 2: what kind of alumni event should we have. How do
- 18:17Speaker 2: we get information on our alumni and get that all
- 18:20Speaker 2: together so that we can really celebrate.
- 18:22Speaker 1: Well, there's the testimony right there. Yeah, I mean, there's
- 18:25Speaker 1: the proof in the pudding. To be twenty something years
- 18:31Speaker 1: old and to have your own business with customers and
- 18:37Speaker 1: learning all that is involved in business, which is far
- 18:40Speaker 1: beyond the spot treatment and far beyond the cutting hair.
- 18:49Speaker 1: Running your business is massive. But man, I mean that's
- 18:54Speaker 1: the lifeblood really of our state. Yeah, we got to
- 18:59Speaker 1: get killed to learn their trade, graduate start their own
- 19:03Speaker 1: business or be you know, an apprentice or an employee
- 19:07Speaker 1: for plumbing, heating, electrical construction, whatever it is, automotive whatever.
- 19:13Speaker 2: We just got offered a time grant from the state
- 19:16Speaker 2: to get a recording booth for our digital media arts
- 19:20Speaker 2: videography so they can start doing that the podcasting and
- 19:23Speaker 2: you can. You've been a part of that, helping to
- 19:26Speaker 2: get that up and running and offered up space to
- 19:30Speaker 2: share with our students so they could learn from you.
- 19:32Speaker 2: So that's been great too.
- 19:33Speaker 1: That's so that that makes me feel incredible. That's so
- 19:37Speaker 1: exciting to hear that.
- 19:38Speaker 2: Ask got the news last week.
- 19:40Speaker 1: Yes, Can I come.
- 19:44Speaker 2: Once we get it, Yes, you can probably help us
- 19:47Speaker 2: set it up.
- 19:47Speaker 1: Oh thank god, I would absolutely love that. That is
- 19:51Speaker 1: so cool. Joe Waltsworth, who doesn't know Joe Waltsworth, He says,
- 19:57Speaker 1: my hat's off to the Career Center for partnering with
- 20:00Speaker 1: Vermont District six to bring EMT and paramedic training to
- 20:04Speaker 1: our youth and area providers. It was great to work
- 20:08Speaker 1: with you, Jody and your staff.
- 20:11Speaker 2: Thank you, Joe. Yeah, so awesome to work with them
- 20:13Speaker 2: and to start providing that District six and District eight
- 20:17Speaker 2: training for EMS. We have a paramedic program on site
- 20:21Speaker 2: right now, so that's been great.
- 20:24Speaker 1: These kids take this stuff so seriously, I mean like literally,
- 20:31Speaker 1: like really seriously, and I love that. You could just
- 20:35Speaker 1: see the look in their eye. Ye, And they look
- 20:39Speaker 1: up to Barry City, Barry Town EMS, EMT's paramedics, fire police.
- 20:46Speaker 1: They look up to those folks, and they.
- 20:48Speaker 2: Those ride alongs that they get to do with EMS amazing.
- 20:52Speaker 2: They come back grinning ear to ear, no matter what
- 20:55Speaker 2: they have experienced, they just love that and it's been
- 20:58Speaker 2: it's been wonderful.
- 20:59Speaker 1: Well it's real life, Yeah, it's real life.
- 21:02Speaker 2: Next year we get an early childhood education program. So, Wow,
- 21:06Speaker 2: thank goodness that's coming back, because we certainly need childcare.
- 21:10Speaker 1: Amen to that. You know I said to you when
- 21:16Speaker 1: you were giving me a walk through a little tour
- 21:20Speaker 1: a while back. I think I said something to you
- 21:26Speaker 1: to the effect of, shame on me for not having
- 21:32Speaker 1: stepped foot into the Central Vermont Career Center in a
- 21:36Speaker 1: very long time. I think the last time I was
- 21:39Speaker 1: there was the beginning days of Froggy one hundred point
- 21:44Speaker 1: nine when I worked there, Wow, which is early two thousands. Yeah,
- 21:50Speaker 1: and then and I had forgotten it. And to walk
- 21:55Speaker 1: through and to see what's in that building right there
- 21:59Speaker 1: on airstream. I mean, some thousands of us drive right
- 22:04Speaker 1: past that campus all the time every day. We know
- 22:08Speaker 1: where Spaulding High School is, we know where the football
- 22:12Speaker 1: field is, but we've never walked through the Career Center.
- 22:16Speaker 1: And man, I'm telling you right now, if you haven't
- 22:19Speaker 1: done that yet, you're really missing out. You have no idea.
- 22:23Speaker 1: You will be stunned at one of the most important
- 22:28Speaker 1: parts of our community that's right under our nose all
- 22:32Speaker 1: the time. I mean, it's really impressive in there.
- 22:34Speaker 2: Yeah, give us a call and we can set up
- 22:36Speaker 2: a time for a tour.
- 22:37Speaker 1: But you guys have you've had an open house and
- 22:40Speaker 1: stuff in the past.
- 22:41Speaker 2: Absolutely, every fall we have one the Thursday before Thanksgiving.
- 22:45Speaker 2: We have open house every year, and in the spring
- 22:48Speaker 2: we have trades Fair and if it's nice out, we're
- 22:52Speaker 2: out in the parking lot with all sorts of different
- 22:55Speaker 2: folks from our industry partners, and the student projects are
- 22:58Speaker 2: out there and students are going from station to station
- 23:02Speaker 2: and checking it out and sometimes interviewing and getting jobs
- 23:04Speaker 2: with folks. Yeah, so that's coming up next month. Well
- 23:08Speaker 2: not next month May.
- 23:09Speaker 1: Here's another. Here's another great excuse if you want to
- 23:16Speaker 1: step through those doors. If you need a haircut or whatever,
- 23:20Speaker 1: you can get a haircut from the cosmetology students.
- 23:24Speaker 2: Yeah, give them a call. They are accepting appointments.
- 23:26Speaker 1: Do you know the number off the top of your head?
- 23:28Speaker 2: No, I don't, All right, I'll send it to you though,
- 23:31Speaker 2: and you can put it on.
- 23:32Speaker 1: Is it the four seven sixty two thirty seven.
- 23:35Speaker 2: If you call that number, you can get transferred in there.
- 23:37Speaker 2: But there is a direct line for the cosmetology.
- 23:40Speaker 1: What do they charge it for a haircut?
- 23:41Speaker 2: Come on now, Oh goodness, you're really testing. Come on,
- 23:44Speaker 2: but it's less. It's probably a little less than your
- 23:47Speaker 2: salon that you normally go to for any of the services,
- 23:51Speaker 2: and they's still a fee for the products that we have.
- 23:54Speaker 1: Do you get to tip the student.
- 23:58Speaker 2: No, we can't do that. Any tips would go to
- 24:01Speaker 2: the student Activities fund and so that helps support any
- 24:08Speaker 2: field trips that they might take or scholarship at the
- 24:11Speaker 2: end of the year. So those are the sort of
- 24:12Speaker 2: things where the money can go.
- 24:14Speaker 1: See, I would be perfect, perfect guinea pick for this
- 24:17Speaker 1: because if I went in there, I'd be like, look,
- 24:19Speaker 1: do whatever you want, and if you screw it up,
- 24:22Speaker 1: that's fine. Really, yeah, doesn't bother me at all. Just
- 24:27Speaker 1: if you screw it up, just shave it down.
- 24:30Speaker 2: My hair's so curly that I can go in there
- 24:32Speaker 2: and get a haircut and no one would know if
- 24:34Speaker 2: it if it was straight or even anyway. So it's
- 24:37Speaker 2: all good. It's a great place.
- 24:38Speaker 1: To do it. So the cost estimating for these three
- 24:43Speaker 1: possible opportunities to expand the programming and get more kids
- 24:51Speaker 1: into the central for my career Center, this is something
- 24:54Speaker 1: that's happening right now.
- 24:56Speaker 2: Yeah, So we made sure that we took all three
- 24:59Speaker 2: options and we equalize them as far as programming and space,
- 25:03Speaker 2: and then sent that out to the folks that did
- 25:06Speaker 2: the cost estimating for original bond vote. It's P and
- 25:11Speaker 2: C out of Massachusetts. They do this across New England,
- 25:17Speaker 2: and so we're expecting about four weeks and we'll get
- 25:20Speaker 2: the estimates back and then the work group can come
- 25:23Speaker 2: back together and really identify which which one will they
- 25:27Speaker 2: move forward and recommend to the Facilities Committee of the board.
- 25:30Speaker 1: Yeah, and there may not, there may not. There may
- 25:36Speaker 1: always be a waiting list for some of these programs.
- 25:41Speaker 2: There may, yes, But if.
- 25:43Speaker 1: We could get that waiting list from six or seven
- 25:47Speaker 1: down to two or three, that would.
- 25:50Speaker 2: Be I love you saying six or seven. I wish
- 25:53Speaker 2: that it was really I think we have some waiting
- 25:56Speaker 2: lists of ten and twelve right now. Yeah, just from
- 26:00Speaker 2: first round.
- 26:01Speaker 1: Wow, Okay, those.
- 26:03Speaker 2: Students can apply at other centers. So they may be
- 26:06Speaker 2: applying at Green Mountain or River Bend or Randolph. So
- 26:10Speaker 2: once they've been denied or waitlisted with us, they can
- 26:13Speaker 2: apply elsewhere.
- 26:14Speaker 1: Yeah. Your guidance counselors at Spalding are doing such a
- 26:21Speaker 1: great job by saying, by making sure that everything is
- 26:26Speaker 1: on the table, that students early on at Spalding understand
- 26:33Speaker 1: that in just four years, which is a flash, that
- 26:38Speaker 1: they're going to be out of the traditional high school
- 26:42Speaker 1: setting and you have options, You have different roads that
- 26:48Speaker 1: you can go down. Where I went to school, it
- 26:53Speaker 1: really wasn't the case at all. Yeah, and I wish
- 26:57Speaker 1: it was.
- 26:57Speaker 2: School counselors are really good about helping students to understand options.
- 27:03Speaker 2: Some of them are still a little bit in the
- 27:05Speaker 2: old mindset that you can't go to college if you
- 27:08Speaker 2: go to the career center, and that's not true. In fact,
- 27:10Speaker 2: a lot of students get a jumpstart on college at
- 27:13Speaker 2: the career center. I mean, our kids coming out of
- 27:15Speaker 2: medical professions are getting eight credits of anatomy and physiology,
- 27:18Speaker 2: you know, so across our programs they're getting credits or
- 27:22Speaker 2: they're getting industry recognized credentials, and that actually gives them
- 27:25Speaker 2: a leg up in some places. Yeah, it's making sure
- 27:28Speaker 2: that you get in all of the required coursework before
- 27:31Speaker 2: you get to us so that you're not messing out,
- 27:34Speaker 2: and sometimes it can be hard to do that dual track.
- 27:37Speaker 2: I think our governor talked about it a lot. He
- 27:39Speaker 2: was college bound, but he also was interested in the
- 27:41Speaker 2: trades and he did both and sometimes scheduling gets in
- 27:44Speaker 2: the way of that and can be a barrier, sure, sure,
- 27:47Speaker 2: but not always. And so we want to make sure
- 27:49Speaker 2: students know that it doesn't close a door if they
- 27:52Speaker 2: enter the career center.
- 27:54Speaker 1: You know, there's so many students that, as you well know,
- 27:59Speaker 1: that are just like I've got to do. I can't
- 28:06Speaker 1: just sit and be told or sit and read and
- 28:10Speaker 1: learn that way. I need to learn by doing. I
- 28:14Speaker 1: actually need to get my hands in it, get my
- 28:17Speaker 1: hands dirty or whatever's that's something that's like really big
- 28:25Speaker 1: right now. I mean I hear that everywhere. I hear
- 28:28Speaker 1: it everywhere.
- 28:29Speaker 2: Yeah, I think the way we've always done education across
- 28:33Speaker 2: our traditional public schools isn't working for more people than
- 28:38Speaker 2: you know, there were always some people that didn't work
- 28:40Speaker 2: for and now it's getting harder for it to work
- 28:42Speaker 2: for everyone. And doesn't mean that it can't. It just
- 28:45Speaker 2: means sometimes we have to let go of something that
- 28:48Speaker 2: we've done for a really long time and so we
- 28:52Speaker 2: keep doing it right, but it means we need to
- 28:54Speaker 2: transition a little bit in education across the board to
- 28:58Speaker 2: make sure that we're engaged students because they're more likely
- 29:01Speaker 2: to be successful in the things that they don't like
- 29:04Speaker 2: that maybe they're reading, maybe the math. Yeah, if they
- 29:06Speaker 2: can see the connection to the things.
- 29:08Speaker 1: They do, like absolutely, Yeah, I mean, you know, it's like,
- 29:13Speaker 1: and I know kids who say kids they're now adults
- 29:20Speaker 1: who have had i EPs and have had real, real
- 29:25Speaker 1: struggle in school learning the basic core curriculum. But they're like,
- 29:30Speaker 1: put a wrench in their hand, or give them some
- 29:34Speaker 1: clippers or whatever it is, and they take off, take
- 29:40Speaker 1: off and are very successful with what they're doing.
- 29:43Speaker 2: Absolutely. Across our Sandy school, twenty percent of students are
- 29:47Speaker 2: on plans. At CBCC, forty percent of students are on plans.
- 29:50Speaker 2: Some of them come off those plans while they're with
- 29:52Speaker 2: us because they've found something that works for them.
- 29:54Speaker 1: Yeah, it's about directing and redirecting and getting getting each
- 30:00Speaker 1: student on the road where they're going to flourish and
- 30:04Speaker 1: be the most successful whatever it is.
- 30:07Speaker 2: Yeah. A former colleague of mine once said that success
- 30:10Speaker 2: builds success, and that is so true. Once you start
- 30:12Speaker 2: feeling successful, you get stronger, you're willing to try more things.
- 30:17Speaker 2: It definitely builds And if you have not had a
- 30:21Speaker 2: lot of success in education, it's really hard to keep
- 30:24Speaker 2: going and be motivated to do all those things. But
- 30:27Speaker 2: if you can find some that can build a little
- 30:30Speaker 2: bit and you can find some more, success builds its
- 30:33Speaker 2: own momentum exactly.
- 30:34Speaker 1: Yeah, comment here, there's always a long talk about building
- 30:40Speaker 1: facilities or yeah, building facilities, budgets and taxes. What about
- 30:46Speaker 1: faculty staffing trades teachers are very different from general education teachers.
- 30:53Speaker 1: Do you have people wanting these positions? That's a great question.
- 30:58Speaker 2: Yeah, we have. We have a great staff at the
- 31:01Speaker 2: Central Vermont Career Center and yes, they come from industry,
- 31:03Speaker 2: the majority of them. All of the positions that we
- 31:06Speaker 2: had opened for next year are about to be filled
- 31:08Speaker 2: tomorrow night at our board meeting. So super exciting. We
- 31:11Speaker 2: have great applicants this year. As if we're growing. Though,
- 31:15Speaker 2: if we're building and we're growing programs and maybe duplicating,
- 31:19Speaker 2: it could be a barrier in the future because a
- 31:22Speaker 2: teacher makes less than someone in industry, and so they
- 31:25Speaker 2: have to really want to contribute to the community and
- 31:29Speaker 2: grow the field to leave that higher paying industry job
- 31:33Speaker 2: and come into teaching.
- 31:35Speaker 1: Wow, well said, what about this leather working class that
- 31:43Speaker 1: I'm seeing? What's that all about?
- 31:45Speaker 2: One of our instructors for Exploratory. Tim Hannond does some
- 31:49Speaker 2: leatherwork on the side. You might have seen him at
- 31:51Speaker 2: the craft show up at the Berry Auditorium this year.
- 31:54Speaker 2: He was down in the basement with some of his
- 31:56Speaker 2: leather work, just doing a little intro class. We're trying
- 31:59Speaker 2: to start building our adult education programming and opportunities. We
- 32:04Speaker 2: actually one of the hires that we have for next
- 32:06Speaker 2: year is an assistant director of adult Ed to take
- 32:10Speaker 2: on some of that planning for adult education, because our
- 32:12Speaker 2: day staff has been trying to do that and I
- 32:15Speaker 2: think we'll grow it better with someone whose focus is
- 32:18Speaker 2: solely on adult ed and start building programming for folks
- 32:21Speaker 2: and hopefully get into some work with apprenticeship programs as well.
- 32:26Speaker 1: Yeah. It's experienced hands on leather crafting in a welcoming environment,
- 32:31Speaker 1: perfect for beginners, no experience necessary, just bring your curiosity
- 32:36Speaker 1: and the course starts up in three days on March
- 32:41Speaker 1: twenty sixth. Wow.
- 32:45Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean kids come in there on program preview day,
- 32:48Speaker 2: it's the first day they're even in the exploratory classroom,
- 32:51Speaker 2: and they usually can make something coming out of there.
- 32:53Speaker 2: So I have no doubt that Tim's going to help
- 32:56Speaker 2: the adults who are interested learn something and walk away.
- 32:59Speaker 1: With do we know what the what the cost is
- 33:02Speaker 1: to sign up for this? Get on c c V
- 33:06Speaker 1: t CC dot org. That's right, that's the way to
- 33:09Speaker 1: do it.
- 33:09Speaker 2: These are things I don't have memorized.
- 33:11Speaker 1: Dad uh slash adult education. I love that. I love this, this,
- 33:17Speaker 1: This is fantastic. Our community really supports what's going on
- 33:25Speaker 1: over there on Air Street and would love to see
- 33:27Speaker 1: things expand our community is was was also, I think
- 33:38Speaker 1: from from what I read, uh just a little uh,
- 33:42Speaker 1: there was a little bit of sticker shock, I think
- 33:48Speaker 1: with regard to the proposal to to build the new
- 33:52Speaker 1: facility up up in Graniteville there on Baptist Street, and
- 33:56Speaker 1: concerned about their their taxes as as we've talked about.
- 34:01Speaker 1: But we should also say that you guys did a
- 34:04Speaker 1: real great job to transparently show the different towns and
- 34:11Speaker 1: how what the price tag would be for their taxes
- 34:15Speaker 1: for this.
- 34:17Speaker 2: Yeah, thank you. I think it's really difficult and we
- 34:20Speaker 2: had to use current The funding for CTE is a
- 34:23Speaker 2: little different than all of our sending schools, and so
- 34:26Speaker 2: that's hard for folks to understand. It's based on a
- 34:28Speaker 2: six semester average of the number of students that come
- 34:32Speaker 2: from each sending school and then split amongst their towns.
- 34:37Speaker 2: So people were very confused about the difference costs across
- 34:42Speaker 2: different towns. And that's why it is if we do
- 34:45Speaker 2: go to a foundation formula, or if there is a
- 34:49Speaker 2: different way that career and technical education ends up being
- 34:52Speaker 2: paid for out of this legislative session, that could change
- 34:55Speaker 2: those numbers. I think a lot of folks were hopeful
- 34:58Speaker 2: that there would be school construction funding and I don't
- 35:01Speaker 2: think they're going to solve that this year either, but
- 35:03Speaker 2: certainly if that was available, folks would be more willing
- 35:07Speaker 2: to support it. If we could have identified and gone
- 35:10Speaker 2: out for some grants faster, I think that would have helped,
- 35:14Speaker 2: if we could know what the offsetting funds would be.
- 35:19Speaker 2: And it's hard to which comes first, right you don't
- 35:22Speaker 2: want to put the car before the horse, and we
- 35:25Speaker 2: need the community to say yes, we support this before
- 35:28Speaker 2: we can apply for the grant. But we need the
- 35:30Speaker 2: grant for folks to say they support it, so you
- 35:33Speaker 2: can't really win in that case. Yeah, for sure, but
- 35:38Speaker 2: I do think people support it. I think that even
- 35:41Speaker 2: if we don't get a new building somewhere that we're
- 35:44Speaker 2: going to try to find a way to expand in
- 35:46Speaker 2: small ways, and that may be revisiting the schedule, looking
- 35:50Speaker 2: at how do we how could we use spaces more
- 35:54Speaker 2: than once in a meaningful way and still support the
- 36:00Speaker 2: of kids in their projects. Also, how might we expand
- 36:04Speaker 2: into another building close by that if there's one available
- 36:08Speaker 2: that would allow us to duplicate some programs. The state
- 36:13Speaker 2: really only allows one new program a year if it's
- 36:17Speaker 2: brand new. But if you are duplicating a program, it's
- 36:19Speaker 2: something you already have and it's successful and you can
- 36:22Speaker 2: show that you have interests, then you can expand as
- 36:26Speaker 2: many times as you want. And so those programs where
- 36:29Speaker 2: we have those wait lists make the most sense, which
- 36:31Speaker 2: is what we did with electrical. So next year we
- 36:34Speaker 2: have two electrical programs.
- 36:36Speaker 1: Has there ever been any discussion with the city about
- 36:40Speaker 1: maybe utilizing some of the some of the space and
- 36:44Speaker 1: maybe some of the empty classrooms that are up there
- 36:49Speaker 1: at the adjacent to the Barry Auditorium. I can't remember
- 36:53Speaker 1: the name of that building that's break attached to the auditorium, but.
- 36:59Speaker 2: No, no. I think what we tend to focus on
- 37:04Speaker 2: is the fact that our lab spaces have some very
- 37:07Speaker 2: specific needs and so finding the space to do that
- 37:11Speaker 2: and not wanting to be spread across all at very city.
- 37:15Speaker 2: I mean, we saw what happened to Burlington Tech School
- 37:18Speaker 2: when they had to close down and they were in
- 37:19Speaker 2: five sites and four. You can never be where you
- 37:24Speaker 2: should be that day. Not that it's impossible. We have
- 37:29Speaker 2: explored potentially putting baking arts back here on Main Street. Yeah. Wow,
- 37:37Speaker 2: everybody loves the cupcakes and cookies.
- 37:39Speaker 1: Right literally everybody. But it's nice that it's nice that
- 37:47Speaker 1: your budget just passed, Yes, not a couple of weeks ago,
- 37:51Speaker 1: not long ago, and that there's some positivities. There's some
- 37:57Speaker 1: forward motion here. You guys are in very much in gear.
- 38:01Speaker 1: There's stuff happening.
- 38:02Speaker 2: Absolutely, and there's little micro expansions within what we can
- 38:07Speaker 2: do within our current confines. So we're trying to find
- 38:10Speaker 2: ways to get more students access and to figure out
- 38:15Speaker 2: how we can live within the space that we have
- 38:17Speaker 2: and kind of shuffle things around and try to make
- 38:19Speaker 2: it work, while also looking sort of outside and nearby,
- 38:22Speaker 2: what might we do to maybe duplicate some of the
- 38:27Speaker 2: construction trades so that we can start building a house
- 38:30Speaker 2: out of the Center again.
- 38:31Speaker 1: Which has been done. That. Wasn't there a connection with
- 38:37Speaker 1: Habitat for Humanity not long ago?
- 38:41Speaker 2: Yeah, we worked with Habitat for Humanity last year our
- 38:43Speaker 2: building trades program did I think this spring we might
- 38:47Speaker 2: be collaborating with the local American Legion to help them
- 38:51Speaker 2: with a kitchen rebuild. And there should be another Habitat
- 38:55Speaker 2: for Humanity coming up. I think we're two years out
- 39:00Speaker 2: from the next one locally, and I think that might
- 39:03Speaker 2: be Plainfield.
- 39:04Speaker 1: Wow, I would I'd love to see that happen.
- 39:07Speaker 2: Yeah. Man, those are great partnerships.
- 39:09Speaker 1: That I'll run over there. I'll run over there with
- 39:13Speaker 1: a camera. I would love to see that.
- 39:15Speaker 2: Okay, that's so cool.
- 39:17Speaker 1: Uh, Joe's just reminding us. It's it's Alumni Hall adjacent
- 39:22Speaker 1: to the Oh, thank you very auditorium there. Tip of
- 39:27Speaker 1: the hat to the the recipients of the Heritage Automotive Challenge. Yes,
- 39:33Speaker 1: so cool.
- 39:34Speaker 2: Second place finish this year. Great job, and we had
- 39:38Speaker 2: we send two students who compete, and we have one
- 39:41Speaker 2: alternate that goes and our alternate got to compete too
- 39:44Speaker 2: because another school didn't send an alternate and one of
- 39:48Speaker 2: their kids didn't show up. So our kiddo just partnered
- 39:51Speaker 2: with that student from another center and they they participated too,
- 39:56Speaker 2: So it's great, so awesome.
- 40:00Speaker 1: Was telling me and I know that you're going to
- 40:05Speaker 1: jog my memory here about that there was some competition
- 40:11Speaker 1: where they would they would travel and put together something
- 40:14Speaker 1: for the av department where they would go and like
- 40:17Speaker 1: compete and get an award.
- 40:19Speaker 2: I can't remember what Skills USA. It's coming up. That's
- 40:23Speaker 2: the first couple of weeks into April and a bunch
- 40:26Speaker 2: of different competitions across different program areas. Our videography team
- 40:31Speaker 2: has been gold in Vermont many years in a row,
- 40:36Speaker 2: so exciting. And then they if they win gold, they
- 40:39Speaker 2: go off to Nationals, which for the last few years
- 40:42Speaker 2: has been in Atlanta, And this year it's actually going
- 40:45Speaker 2: to be earlier. Normally it's after school gets out, but
- 40:47Speaker 2: this year it's going to be I think in the
- 40:48Speaker 2: beginning of June. So if any of our students win gold,
- 40:51Speaker 2: they'll get to go to Atlanta in June.
- 40:54Speaker 1: Have we been in the past.
- 40:56Speaker 2: We have certainly been to Atlanta. We've had our videography
- 41:00Speaker 2: students go, We've had a cosmetology student go, and I
- 41:04Speaker 2: think there was one other program that went in the
- 41:06Speaker 2: last five.
- 41:06Speaker 1: Years, so Skills USA. That's all of the programs or
- 41:11Speaker 1: most of them.
- 41:12Speaker 2: So there are a bunch of competitions for most of
- 41:14Speaker 2: the programs that students can sign up for. So there's
- 41:17Speaker 2: some that are programs specific, and then there are some
- 41:19Speaker 2: that are like leadership specific, and so students can opt
- 41:23Speaker 2: into those or program teachers and it's always great if
- 41:27Speaker 2: you finish for a second or third in the state.
- 41:30Speaker 2: There's some amazing scholarships that go along with that. Sometimes
- 41:33Speaker 2: there's tools, it depends which competition it is.
- 41:38Speaker 1: I love that. I'm just looking at some of the
- 41:40Speaker 1: some of the photos on your Facebook page here of
- 41:44Speaker 1: some of these students baking the building trades here. It's
- 41:50Speaker 1: just amazing. I mean it's they take this stuff like
- 41:53Speaker 1: so I just love the fact that it's you know,
- 41:57Speaker 1: they're not just doing it because they have to do it.
- 41:59Speaker 1: The looks on their their faces are like, I'm doing
- 42:03Speaker 1: this because I love this, and I just think that's
- 42:06Speaker 1: so cool.
- 42:06Speaker 2: Yeah, And all the programs have an Instagram page, and
- 42:09Speaker 2: some of them are taking pictures every week and some
- 42:12Speaker 2: you might get caught up every month with so many
- 42:15Speaker 2: great photos there as well.
- 42:16Speaker 1: Yeah, we need, you know, just to echo this again,
- 42:22Speaker 1: we need more of our youth to be learning a trade,
- 42:29Speaker 1: learning real, real skills that they can use in their lives,
- 42:33Speaker 1: whether they're working for somebody else or to start their
- 42:36Speaker 1: own business. Man. We need that more now than ever.
- 42:40Speaker 1: We sure do, especially right here in Verma.
- 42:42Speaker 2: Yeah. Absolutely, we need to grow our young tag space.
- 42:48Speaker 2: We need folks here.
- 42:50Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, big time. John saying that habitat is in Northfield.
- 42:55Speaker 1: Now Joe's saying firefighting and ems went like ten years ago.
- 43:01Speaker 2: Yeah, we just have ams. There's no firefighting component with it.
- 43:06Speaker 2: I want to say it most more five years ago,
- 43:08Speaker 2: but Joe's probably going to remember better than I am
- 43:11Speaker 2: because I wasn't involved in it. Then.
- 43:13Speaker 1: Yeah, this is all. Is there anybody that you want
- 43:18Speaker 1: to give some kudos to at the administration or anyone
- 43:22Speaker 1: up there at the Central From my career.
- 43:24Speaker 2: Center, the administrative team is great, the staff is amazing.
- 43:28Speaker 2: We are so excited to Tomorrow night is our March
- 43:32Speaker 2: board meeting, and we have two new members. So we
- 43:36Speaker 2: have a new appointee from Washington Central and a new
- 43:40Speaker 2: appointee from Harwood. So we'll be welcoming those two a
- 43:44Speaker 2: board and you know, reorganizing like every other board has
- 43:47Speaker 2: done in March after Town Meeting day and then be
- 43:51Speaker 2: up and running. So it's exciting to welcome new board
- 43:54Speaker 2: members and get them to see the facility and to
- 43:59Speaker 2: return eight of our board members. That's great because they
- 44:03Speaker 2: really know what's going on and what's been happening, and
- 44:07Speaker 2: they get to approve those hires tomorrow night, so that's great.
- 44:11Speaker 2: So just I work with a wonderful group of people,
- 44:15Speaker 2: and we are so well supported by our board, by
- 44:19Speaker 2: our community. The entire staff is great. I just feel
- 44:23Speaker 2: incredibly lucky to work at the Central Vermont Career Center.
- 44:26Speaker 1: They're there because they really truly love what they do
- 44:30Speaker 1: and they love to reap the rewards of seeing kids
- 44:36Speaker 1: actually learning what they're what they're being taught, and then
- 44:42Speaker 1: taking those those skills and putting them to use. That's
- 44:45Speaker 1: I mean, come on, there's nothing better than that.
- 44:48Speaker 2: Yeah, for sure, and some I mean I think about
- 44:51Speaker 2: we have a couple of teachers who are alumni from
- 44:54Speaker 2: the center and they came back because they wanted to
- 44:57Speaker 2: make sure that they could do that for other students
- 44:59Speaker 2: as well.
- 45:00Speaker 1: That is so cool. So board presentation with some of
- 45:08Speaker 1: this cost estimating when might that happen.
- 45:13Speaker 2: I we were originally scheduled for April. I don't think
- 45:16Speaker 2: we're going to make the April deadline, so I think
- 45:18Speaker 2: it'll be May. We'll see what we can do. In
- 45:21Speaker 2: the meantime, the Facilities Committee is working on what potential
- 45:24Speaker 2: short term options are there, so that'll probably be on
- 45:27Speaker 2: the review for April and then May we'll be able
- 45:32Speaker 2: to see what the work group recommends and see where
- 45:35Speaker 2: the Board takes it. There are a couple of opportunities
- 45:39Speaker 2: in the fall if we decide to pursue another bond vote.
- 45:43Speaker 2: There's an August primary, there's a November midterm elections, so
- 45:48Speaker 2: there are things happening where we wouldn't have to get
- 45:51Speaker 2: all the town clerks up and running for an extra day,
- 45:54Speaker 2: but we could tack onto some elections already happening. If
- 45:57Speaker 2: we decide to move forward something, and right now I
- 46:00Speaker 2: do not know, but possibly a bond vote, Possibly a
- 46:05Speaker 2: bond vote in November. Possibly, Okay, I think that's more
- 46:08Speaker 2: likely than in August, if there's a decision around a bond.
- 46:11Speaker 1: Yeah, that's a little snug, it's very very snug. Very yes, listen, Uh,
- 46:19Speaker 1: I always love having you in here. There's always so
- 46:22Speaker 1: much to talk about, but we're watching, we're listening, we're
- 46:26Speaker 1: paying attention to what you're doing over at this central
- 46:29Speaker 1: from our career center, and Jody, you guys are You're
- 46:32Speaker 1: all doing such such great work there and I appreciate
- 46:36Speaker 1: you coming in here and getting us caught up. You know,
- 46:39Speaker 1: I know there's there's a lot of activity, but I
- 46:42Speaker 1: wasn't aware of this until I chatted with you this morning,
- 46:46Speaker 1: of what these options are. And yeah, it's great that
- 46:49Speaker 1: you've communicated it to our community.
- 46:53Speaker 2: Yeah. I think it shows up in the times our
- 46:54Speaker 2: guests from time to time, and some people see that,
- 46:58Speaker 2: but not everybody. And so again it's it's what is
- 47:01Speaker 2: the best venue for communicating these things? And I don't
- 47:03Speaker 2: know that we found it yet.
- 47:04Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly, great job. Thank you so much for coming
- 47:09Speaker 1: in here this morning, and get back to work.
- 47:11Speaker 2: Okay, thanks for having me.
- 47:12Speaker 1: I got some kids waiting over there for you.
- 47:15Speaker 2: They're not waiting for me, they're busy.
- 47:17Speaker 1: Thanks Shody, thank you. All right,
