- 0:01Good morning and a warm welcome to your show,
- 0:05Sunny Mornings in Boston. I'm your host, Melissa,
- 0:09and it's Thursday, September 17th. You'll be
- 0:13interested to know. 239 years ago today in 1787,
- 0:20delegates in Philadelphia signed the United States
- 0:22Constitution, establishing an enduring national
- 0:26framework for federal government with separated
- 0:28powers. and a system of checks to balance authority
- 0:32among elected branches. That compact created
- 0:35the living charter that still shapes American
- 0:38government and civic life today. So now you know.
- 0:44And now, it's time for the weather report. This
- 0:50morning, it's partly sunny and it feels like
- 0:5368 degrees, with two mile per hour wind. The
- 0:58sunset will take place at 647, and it will rise
- 1:01again tomorrow at 627. It looks like we're in
- 1:05for a mostly cloudy day with a high near 79 and
- 1:09a light southeast breeze, around 6 miles per
- 1:12hour, plus a slight chance of rain showers after
- 1:155 p .m. If you're inland, it will hit a high
- 1:19of 80 tonight. Expect cloudy skies with a chance
- 1:24of rain showers, a low of 66, and a light southwest
- 1:28wind around 7 miles per hour. The nearshore buoy
- 1:32at Cape Cod Bay reads 66 degrees for the water
- 1:36temperature. Looking ahead in the weather. Friday
- 1:42will be sunny with a high near 76 and a northwest
- 1:46breeze around 6 to 10 miles per hour. becoming
- 1:49mostly clear overnight with a low near 54. Saturday
- 1:54turns cooler and mostly sunny with a high near
- 1:5664, then rain showers are likely Sunday into
- 2:00Sunday night with highs near 64 and lows in the
- 2:03mid -50s. A slight chance of showers returns
- 2:07Monday with highs near 63 and winds near 10 miles
- 2:11per hour, and Monday night stays mostly cloudy
- 2:14with a low near 56. Bonjour, food enthusiasts.

- 2:52Sunny mornings send you. In local news, Truwerky
- 2:57Family Orchards in Levitt, Maine has been named
- 3:00the best corn maze and pumpkin patch in America
- 3:03by USA Today readers for five consecutive years.
- 3:07The farm features a four -acre maze with 60 ,000
- 3:1110 -foot tall corn plants. and offers guests
- 3:14free ice cream for solving riddles within the
- 3:16maze. This year's design commemorates America's
- 3:20250th anniversary, showcasing iconic symbols
- 3:24like the Statue of Liberty and the Liberty Bell.
- 3:28Visitors can enjoy special night events with
- 3:30lighted hayrides and campfires on select dates
- 3:33in October. Davis Mega Maze in Sterling, Massachusetts
- 3:37also made the top 10 list, ranking 6. Now onto
- 3:47sports. Tonight on Thursday Night Football, the
- 3:51Detroit Lions and Buffalo Bills meet at Highmark
- 3:54Stadium, both sitting 1 -0 in Buffalo's first
- 3:59regular season game at its new building. Detroit
- 4:02needed overtime to close out a game it once led
- 4:05by 21 over New Orleans. Buffalo was tighter throughout,
- 4:11outlasting Houston on the road, 36 -31. The match
- 4:16of worth watching is Detroit's patchwork offensive
- 4:19line against a retooled Buffalo pass rush. Guard
- 4:23Christian Mahogany, rookie tackle Blake Miller,
- 4:27and center juice scrubs all limited or held out
- 4:30in practice. Opposite Greg Rousseau and free
- 4:33agent addition Bradley Chubb, who's playing through
- 4:37a thumb issue. How that line holds up shapes
- 4:40how clean a pocket Jared Goff gets. Buffalo's
- 4:44health picture is minor by comparison, and Josh
- 4:47Allen has DJ Moore back at full strength. Nothing
- 4:51about seeding is decided this early. It's simply
- 4:55the first real measuring stick for two teams
- 4:57that talk themselves up all off -season in front
- 5:01of a crowd seeing its new stadium for the first
- 5:03time. In local sports, the Red Sox are reeling
- 5:08in Arlington. They dropped game two to the Rangers
- 5:127 -3 last night, with Wilson Contreras -Homer
- 5:16the lone bright spot, and now trail two games
- 5:19to none, heading into tonight's finale. Sunny
- 5:23Gray gets the ball against Tyler Alexander, trying
- 5:26to snap a two -game skid that's left Boston 5
- 5:30-5 over its last 10. At 82 -70, this funk needs
- 5:35to end tonight, not next week. Over at Foxboro,
- 5:39The Patriots are waiting on word on A .J. Brown.
- 5:43The receiver's getting more tasks on that high
- 5:46ankle sprain from Wednesday's loss in Seattle.
- 5:49And Mike Frabel isn't sure yet if he plays Sunday
- 5:52against the Steelers. New England also reshuffled
- 5:55the practice squad this week. On the gridiron
- 5:59at the Heights, Bill O 'Brien's got good news.
- 6:02Linebacker Bodie Cahoun is progressing well after
- 6:05that scary stretcher exit against Rutgers. and
- 6:09Bo McCormack could be back as soon as this week
- 6:12against Maine. And Bruins camp opened at Warrior
- 6:16Ice Arena. Charlie McEvoy will miss the first
- 6:20six games on suspension, but Matthew Poitras
- 6:23is locked in after signing his deal Wednesday.
- 6:28In top news, in the final part of our three -part
- 6:32series, We're looking at what the approaching
- 6:34Kelvin wave and powerful El Nino could actually
- 6:38mean for Southern California. The Kelvin wave
- 6:41itself isn't a destructive breaking wave. The
- 6:45concern is what happens when other ocean and
- 6:47weather events are added on top of already elevated
- 6:50sea levels. And we just saw an example of how
- 6:54vulnerable the coastline can be. Large swells
- 6:57from Hurricane Marie caused severe erosion and
- 7:00coastal damage across Southern California, despite
- 7:03the hurricane remaining far offshore. Veaches
- 7:07lost significant amounts of sand, homes were
- 7:10damaged, and coastal flooding occurred from San
- 7:12Diego County through Orange County and Los Angeles.
- 7:17Now imagine another large swell arriving while
- 7:20a Kelvin wave has already elevated coastal sea
- 7:23levels. Looking toward winter, the combination
- 7:27could become even more significant. Elevated
- 7:30El Nino sea levels, high tides, powerful Pacific
- 7:34storms, and large winter surf all occurring together.
- 7:39Scientists stress that even a powerful El Nino
- 7:42doesn't guarantee Southern California will have
- 7:45an exceptionally rainy winter. Atmospheric conditions
- 7:49will ultimately determine where the biggest storms
- 7:52go. But the coastal threat is different. The
- 7:56ocean is already unusually warm, El Nino is strengthening,
- 8:00and some southern California beaches have already
- 8:03suffered significant erosion. So this fall and
- 8:07winter, the ocean itself may become one of California's
- 8:10biggest weather stories. In business news, the
- 8:16Federal Reserve on Wednesday delivered a much
- 8:18-expected interest rate hike. and Chairman Kevin
- 8:21Warsh stressed policymakers' commitment to tackling
- 8:24inflation. The Fed's quarter percentage point
- 8:28rate increase was unanimous, surprising many
- 8:30given recent, very views among policymakers.
- 8:35Stocks initially rose but sharply sold off after
- 8:37the decision, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average
- 8:40tumbling 631 points. The post -meeting statement
- 8:45was notably brief at 130 words. and Warsh's news
- 8:49conference lasted only 22 minutes. Warsh emphasized
- 8:54the independence of the Federal Reserve amid
- 8:56political pressures from President Donald Trump.
- 9:00In crypto movement, Bitcoin is unchanged at about
- 9:04$76 ,000. Ethereum is up half a percent to about
- 9:10$2 ,000. And XRP is unchanged at $1 .29. Moving
- 9:18on to a more local vibe. In our community spotlight

- 10:03back to the show. Let's talk science. The Roman
- 10:08Space Telescope is starting to wake up as NASA
- 10:11powers on its instruments for the first time.
- 10:14Still traveling to its final destination in space,
- 10:17NASA has begun switching on the spacecraft. Launched
- 10:21on August 30, the telescope is on a three -month
- 10:24journey to leg -range point 2. This location,
- 10:28nearly a million miles from Earth, is ideal for
- 10:31operating its primary instruments. Initial downlinks
- 10:35indicate nominal readings, as NASA teams continue
- 10:38commissioning. The wide -field instrument, designed
- 10:42to survey vast areas of the sky, will take time
- 10:45for calibration. Decontamination procedures will
- 10:49continue for 30 days, with first science images
- 10:52expected in early 2027. And in entertainment
- 10:59news, X -Men's Master of Magnetism is currently
- 11:04in a strange spot as the Marvel Cinematic Universe
- 11:07assembles its X -Men for the much anticipated
- 11:11first mutant movie in 2028. Surprisingly, Magneto
- 11:16was left out, with casting focusing on younger
- 11:19heroes like Jean Grey, played by Sadie Sink,
- 11:22and Cyclops, portrayed by Kit Conner. In the
- 11:26latest issue of X -Men comics, Quentin Quire
- 11:29clashes with Cassandra Nova, invoking Magneto's
- 11:32legacy. He learns to protect his kind while opposing
- 11:36oppressive ideals, symbolizing a passing of the
- 11:39torch to a new generation of heroes. X -Men number
- 11:4337 is now available for purchase. Well, all righty,
- 11:49folks. It's time for the quote of the day. And
- 11:52today, our quote comes from the American founding
- 11:55father and statesman, James Madison. And he said,
- 12:00the advancement and diffusion of knowledge is
- 12:03the only guardian of true liberty. And that's
- 12:07a wrap for this morning. You can check out our
- 12:10Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok for some captivating
- 12:15aerial videos with local news and the weather
- 12:18reports. Have an amazing day, my good friends.
