- 0:56Speaker 3: Good afternoon, everybody, and welcome to this episode of Cats
- 0:59Speaker 3: and Pudding. And today I have a really special guest
- 1:01Speaker 3: on I have like the hottest like single dad.
- 1:06Speaker 1: Well, I'm sorry, well hot.
- 1:10Speaker 5: Dad on my shows today Shannon Lenia, and he has
- 1:18Speaker 5: a great podcast talking about dad's life and and the
- 1:22Speaker 5: daily tribal and tribulations with children.
- 1:24Speaker 3: And he is a movie start a movie coming out
- 1:28Speaker 3: and aft here you are on News twelve. So I
- 1:31Speaker 3: want to hear what Listen, let's get right into it.
- 1:33Speaker 6: Let's shot a little bit of everything. Well, most excited
- 1:36Speaker 6: about the new movie coming out. It's called Tyler Perry's Duplicity.
- 1:40Speaker 6: It's going to be on Amazon on March twentieth. I
- 1:42Speaker 6: am super excited because it's not a comedy. It's a
- 1:45Speaker 6: thriller that will have you on the edge of your
- 1:47Speaker 6: I like.
- 1:48Speaker 1: I like his his drillers. He's doing a couple of
- 1:51Speaker 1: drillers lately.
- 1:52Speaker 4: Span his reach and doing more like the one he.
- 1:54Speaker 3: Did with the other one that was in Destiny's Child. Yeah,
- 2:00Speaker 3: I saw that one, which she was like, yeah, I
- 2:02Speaker 3: was a little that was good exactly.
- 2:04Speaker 4: So he's bringing it. He's bringing the thunder with this.
- 2:07Speaker 4: Do you see?
- 2:07Speaker 1: So what do you play?
- 2:08Speaker 6: So I plan news anchor. It's funny because I'm a
- 2:10Speaker 6: news anchor in real life.
- 2:12Speaker 4: And when he called.
- 2:13Speaker 6: Me, he's like, hey, I saw you on TV. You
- 2:15Speaker 6: inspired this character my new movie. So I would love
- 2:17Speaker 6: for you to play you instead of me hiring someone
- 2:19Speaker 6: to play you. So I was like, bet, I am
- 2:22Speaker 6: there the newscast right, and he's like, well, I'll send
- 2:25Speaker 6: you the script. See if you like it, let me
- 2:26Speaker 6: know if you want to do it. I said, sir, no,
- 2:29Speaker 6: I will do it. I will love it. I am
- 2:31Speaker 6: do not give away my part.
- 2:32Speaker 3: I will.
- 2:33Speaker 6: I am there. So I said, I'm definitely gonna do it.
- 2:35Speaker 6: And I looked at the script and I loved it.
- 2:37Speaker 6: I thought I was going to be in the script.
- 2:38Speaker 6: Like I just turned on TV and you turn it off.
- 2:40Speaker 6: I'm in the entire movie from the first scene to
- 2:42Speaker 6: the very last scene.
- 2:43Speaker 4: So I'm like, you're blowing away.
- 2:45Speaker 3: You're just like doing like new news expert excerpts.
- 2:48Speaker 6: So they're my co host as on the morning show.
- 2:51Speaker 6: Her husband is killed and so now we've got to
- 2:54Speaker 6: figure out what happened, why it happened, and all the
- 2:57Speaker 6: lies that go between the twist and turn is to
- 3:00Speaker 6: figure out what happened and the who's the woman that's
- 3:03Speaker 6: your co Megan Tandy. Yeah, she's in Back Girls. She's
- 3:07Speaker 6: been around a bunch of different things. And then Kat
- 3:09Speaker 6: Graham is in it as well, and she's playing the
- 3:12Speaker 6: lawyer who's trying to get to the bottom of what
- 3:14Speaker 6: really has going on. Yeah, and Tyler Lipley's in it,
- 3:16Speaker 6: so a lot of ladies love him.
- 3:18Speaker 1: So yeah, Yes.
- 3:20Speaker 6: We have a great, amazing cast and another New Yorker,
- 3:23Speaker 6: Nick Barata. He's in Long Island, he's on the Oval.
- 3:26Speaker 6: He's gonna be amazing in this as well. He's my
- 3:28Speaker 6: producer on the show. I'm excited that, you know, I'll
- 3:31Speaker 6: be in a movie that's being seen all over the
- 3:34Speaker 6: world and it's going to be an amazing movie.
- 3:36Speaker 3: And so so this is your first obviously your first,
- 3:39Speaker 3: your first.
- 3:40Speaker 4: The first big role.
- 3:41Speaker 6: You know. I've done other things like Survivors and Morris
- 3:43Speaker 6: Scott's Not Dead things that, but usually I'm the anchor.
- 3:46Speaker 4: Or, the reporter.
- 3:47Speaker 6: You turn it on and you turn it off, and
- 3:48Speaker 6: you know, I'm on quick for five minutes. But now
- 3:51Speaker 6: this is my biggest role yet, being in the entire
- 3:53Speaker 6: movie and getting out of the news room.
- 3:55Speaker 4: Where I'm not just there. I go to the hospital,
- 3:57Speaker 4: I'm at the grave side, I'm at the house.
- 3:59Speaker 6: So it's nice to expand my reach as an actor
- 4:01Speaker 6: and do different scenes and where is.
- 4:03Speaker 1: It taking place with like part of the Atlanta.
- 4:05Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah where his studio. His studio is
- 4:08Speaker 6: amazing Atlanta. Everything you need is there at his.
- 4:11Speaker 1: Line is in Georgia.
- 4:12Speaker 4: Oh that's true.
- 4:13Speaker 3: So Walking Dead in Georgia. So that's like, well the
- 4:15Speaker 3: biggest show in history basically, and that's was that that
- 4:19Speaker 3: was all films exactly.
- 4:21Speaker 6: So it's a lot happened, and he's really revived Atlanta
- 4:23Speaker 6: and brought so much love and support back to Atlanta
- 4:26Speaker 6: because of his studio that's there. And it's pretty amazing
- 4:28Speaker 6: to see what he built, you know, from a guy
- 4:30Speaker 6: who was once living in his car to now this massive,
- 4:34Speaker 6: three hundreds whatever acre studio lot.
- 4:37Speaker 4: It's just so impressive.
- 4:39Speaker 3: Wow, that's amazing. And so you're doing this and you
- 4:42Speaker 3: do a podcast. What what tell me about on your podcast?
- 4:45Speaker 4: You know, part of my life it's all about fatherhood.
- 4:47Speaker 6: So I have three kids, Madison, Mackenzie and Carter and
- 4:50Speaker 6: now fourteen, eleven and nine, and so yeah, two girls
- 4:54Speaker 6: and last one's a boy.
- 4:55Speaker 4: So we the last one.
- 4:57Speaker 6: Yeah, my wife's like all right, you're done, shops close,
- 5:00Speaker 6: you got your boy. But so we do a lot
- 5:02Speaker 6: of fun family and fatherhood content on social media. So
- 5:05Speaker 6: we go viral all the time, but doing little skits
- 5:07Speaker 6: and funny things with the kids. And because of that,
- 5:10Speaker 6: I wanted to expand my reach and do more things,
- 5:12Speaker 6: and so I created the podcast Daddy Duty three sixty five,
- 5:15Speaker 6: where we talk to celebrity dads about the good, the bad,
- 5:18Speaker 6: and the funny of fatherhood. And we have so much
- 5:20Speaker 6: fun because these celebrity dads never get to talk about
- 5:22Speaker 6: these things. They just talk about the newest movie, the
- 5:24Speaker 6: newest album or.
- 5:25Speaker 3: Whatever, and then they're all about their daily life with
- 5:27Speaker 3: their kids.
- 5:28Speaker 4: Exactly for people they have other.
- 5:30Speaker 1: Sizes of really have time to be around their kids.
- 5:32Speaker 4: Let's be honest, a lot of.
- 5:33Speaker 6: Them do, because you know, you work a movie and
- 5:35Speaker 6: then you're done for six months and you're not doing anything.
- 5:38Speaker 6: So like, literally some of them they still do the
- 5:40Speaker 6: school runs and the carpools, and I'm like, you do carpool?
- 5:43Speaker 4: I'm like, so what happens when you pull up? And
- 5:45Speaker 4: they're like, people are just used to it in their
- 5:46Speaker 4: towns and.
- 5:47Speaker 1: So you know, they know they're there. Andy's still exactly.
- 5:50Speaker 4: There's no big deal anymore.
- 5:51Speaker 6: And so you know, with fatherhood, I just wanted to
- 5:52Speaker 6: show that there are dads out there that are active
- 5:56Speaker 6: fathers in their kids' lives doing what they're supposed to
- 5:58Speaker 6: do three hundred sixty five days of the year.
- 6:01Speaker 4: So that's what was the best.
- 6:01Speaker 3: What was like the last one that was like the
- 6:03Speaker 3: I don't know what the like.
- 6:04Speaker 1: Give me. Some people have been on your shop.
- 6:06Speaker 6: Okay, Boris Kojo, you know Boris Culture, him and his
- 6:09Speaker 6: brother Pat were on, and you know, it's funny to
- 6:11Speaker 6: them talking about how they grew up in Germany and
- 6:13Speaker 6: then come here and how they act as fathers and
- 6:15Speaker 6: how they're so involved and still trying to teach their
- 6:17Speaker 6: kids German their kids like whatever, we don't.
- 6:19Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, exactly.
- 6:21Speaker 6: Paul Wall, you know, he's a big time rapper that's
- 6:24Speaker 6: been on. I have a lot of opportunities to interview
- 6:26Speaker 6: people that people may not know either. And some of
- 6:29Speaker 6: the athletes that may not be the biggest star on
- 6:32Speaker 6: the court, but are stars in their own households. So
- 6:35Speaker 6: it's just it's fun to see these people share a
- 6:37Speaker 6: different side of them that you never thought that they
- 6:39Speaker 6: would share. If some dads have come on and talked
- 6:41Speaker 6: and have cried about losing a kid or you know,
- 6:45Speaker 6: things that didn't go their way and their parent planning aspect,
- 6:49Speaker 6: talking about nursing and how supportive they are that when
- 6:51Speaker 6: they're you know, wives are nursing are different things that
- 6:54Speaker 6: and then you have the fun step. I have a
- 6:55Speaker 6: segment called I Love my kids, but it's I love
- 6:57Speaker 6: my kids, but because there's always something. You love them,
- 7:01Speaker 6: but they just get on your nerves when they do
- 7:03Speaker 6: this one thing. So I like to pull that out
- 7:06Speaker 6: of some of the talent because they don't expect that
- 7:08Speaker 6: because everybody loves their kids, but there is that one
- 7:11Speaker 6: like that's just so dirty or that you with their
- 7:13Speaker 6: mouth ol, but are just nasty?
- 7:14Speaker 1: What is your pet peeve?
- 7:17Speaker 6: I love my kids, but they are just dirty for
- 7:20Speaker 6: no reason, Like you see.
- 7:22Speaker 1: The hamper are the worst in the boys.
- 7:24Speaker 6: The girls are worst. Yeah, Like you see the hampers
- 7:27Speaker 6: right here? Why why is everything on the floor next
- 7:29Speaker 6: to the hamper?
- 7:30Speaker 4: You just ate?
- 7:31Speaker 6: Why when you get up do you not take your
- 7:34Speaker 6: trash with your throw it away?
- 7:35Speaker 4: You just leave it there? Like I mean, why do
- 7:36Speaker 4: they have to drink it with them? Why?
- 7:39Speaker 3: Why do you have to live a trail? Do you
- 7:41Speaker 3: think I have the fight right? You leaving me your
- 7:43Speaker 3: trail to go look for you?
- 7:44Speaker 4: Like what is you understand my pain and most people will.
- 7:47Speaker 6: Most people will fourteen, yeah, fourteen, eleven and nine.
- 7:52Speaker 3: Three, twenty six and nineteen and they still do that.
- 7:55Speaker 4: Ship.
- 7:56Speaker 6: Wait, first way, how are you old enough to have
- 7:58Speaker 6: a thirty three year old hours the ball?
- 8:01Speaker 2: Ok?
- 8:01Speaker 4: But how are you old enough? Year old? Amen? Do
- 8:07Speaker 4: what you gotta do, what you gotta do.
- 8:08Speaker 1: You know my Italian Sicilian skin. You know, we don't crack.
- 8:13Speaker 4: I love that that's what happens.
- 8:15Speaker 3: But like I don't know, it's yeah, my kids still
- 8:19Speaker 3: do that.
- 8:19Speaker 6: You understand my opinion. That's why I started a T
- 8:22Speaker 6: shirt line so much. I do love them. It's just
- 8:24Speaker 6: but but that's why I started T shirt line. Like
- 8:28Speaker 6: this one's very subtle. This is just father father friend awesome.
- 8:34Speaker 3: H locronym for father.
- 8:38Speaker 6: But I have some other silly ones that are like
- 8:40Speaker 6: I'm not one of your little friends, because that's what
- 8:42Speaker 6: my parents used to always say, I'm not one of
- 8:44Speaker 6: your little friends.
- 8:44Speaker 4: Don't talk to me like you crazy?
- 8:46Speaker 6: Or you know another one that it says I'm a
- 8:47Speaker 6: cool parent, and it's like I'm follow me on social
- 8:50Speaker 6: media and then they're like hashtag and everything and emojis
- 8:53Speaker 6: everything because that's how some parents are.
- 8:55Speaker 4: They think they're cool and they're.
- 8:56Speaker 1: Really really do you think we're cool?
- 8:58Speaker 4: And my kids they remind you you're not all the time.
- 9:02Speaker 3: Yeah, they're like telling me, like what I'm wearing, mom.
- 9:05Speaker 1: You look like you're in the eighties, and go, I
- 9:07Speaker 1: am from the eighties, Like leave me.
- 9:08Speaker 3: Alone, Like they're so brutal. Well is a brutal.
- 9:12Speaker 4: They're bad.
- 9:12Speaker 3: They don't like when I'm dancing at a party, they
- 9:15Speaker 3: make fun of me, like, yeah, it's bad.
- 9:17Speaker 6: Talking in front of their friends. Anything is just embarrassing.
- 9:20Speaker 1: And their friends like, oh my god, U'm so cool,
- 9:23Speaker 1: and no she's not. I am.
- 9:26Speaker 4: I did.
- 9:26Speaker 6: I did a TikTok and an Instagram video about that
- 9:29Speaker 6: when I was dancing with my daughter's friends and it
- 9:31Speaker 6: says when your kids don't think you're cool, but their
- 9:33Speaker 6: friends do. And it went viral because we were like
- 9:36Speaker 6: doing this viral dance and I was killing it, like
- 9:39Speaker 6: you're doing.
- 9:39Speaker 1: So funny, and the kids are like, oh my god.
- 9:42Speaker 6: Why exactly why does she have to do this?
- 9:47Speaker 4: Exactly? So you got to follow at mister Shannon Lanier
- 9:49Speaker 4: across all.
- 9:51Speaker 3: Mister, I mean, I'm not a dad, but I'm a mom.
- 9:53Speaker 4: So it's all parents and stuff. So I love it.
- 9:55Speaker 4: You can totally relate.
- 9:56Speaker 3: I mean, and even though my kids are grown, I
- 9:58Speaker 3: mean almost growing gm society.
- 10:00Speaker 1: The bigger the kid, the bigger the problem.
- 10:02Speaker 3: And it's so true because as they get older, there's
- 10:05Speaker 3: so many more things you have to help them throw.
- 10:07Speaker 4: So did they ever get out of your pockets? Are
- 10:09Speaker 4: they still?
- 10:10Speaker 6: Never?
- 10:10Speaker 2: No?
- 10:11Speaker 4: Never my pocket? Thirty three?
- 10:16Speaker 3: That was my nineteen year old told me I owed
- 10:18Speaker 3: her thirty dollars tonight because I asked to put gas
- 10:20Speaker 3: and like, are you railing? I said, you owe me
- 10:22Speaker 3: about two million dollars. Thank you all the ship I
- 10:25Speaker 3: paid for you over the last sight.
- 10:27Speaker 4: Are you kidding?
- 10:28Speaker 6: And the gas was probably to take her or him
- 10:30Speaker 6: somewhere right now because she.
- 10:31Speaker 1: Was mad because I took herd car BMW.
- 10:34Speaker 4: That I bought her.
- 10:35Speaker 3: That I bought her to the city because I can't
- 10:37Speaker 3: park my truck in the city because it's there's no
- 10:39Speaker 3: place to go, so let.
- 10:40Speaker 4: Me take your car.
- 10:41Speaker 3: And she text me, you left your You left me
- 10:43Speaker 3: with no gas in your car. I said, all right,
- 10:45Speaker 3: go go put some gas in the right car. I
- 10:48Speaker 3: just put gas in my car. I said, you know
- 10:50Speaker 3: how many times I put gas in your car when
- 10:52Speaker 3: I took it and filled.
- 10:53Speaker 1: It up for you.
- 10:53Speaker 4: How about you keep the lights on the table. I said, you're.
- 10:56Speaker 3: Looking to have a car, how about you get a
- 10:57Speaker 3: metro car because that's what you're going to get next.
- 10:59Speaker 4: Thank you, And I'll have.
- 11:01Speaker 1: To call parked in the drive which you have to walk.
- 11:03Speaker 3: Past it everything and be like, wow, it's not a
- 11:05Speaker 3: really nice car that you can't drive in the driveway.
- 11:07Speaker 4: Thank you, Look, you're back.
- 11:11Speaker 2: I have to do.
- 11:13Speaker 1: You have to but gets it gets like that when
- 11:16Speaker 1: they get older.
- 11:16Speaker 3: But exactly, but when they when they get older, I
- 11:19Speaker 3: have to do have to say they realize how much
- 11:22Speaker 3: they appreciate what you've told them.
- 11:24Speaker 6: That I can say, Okay, it does pay off at
- 11:27Speaker 6: some point.
- 11:27Speaker 1: It does. Hey, you know maybe they got something to
- 11:32Speaker 1: what they're.
- 11:32Speaker 6: Saying, yeah, or did they give somebody else credit for
- 11:35Speaker 6: it and forgot that you're the one who told them
- 11:36Speaker 6: in the first place. Because it's like every time someone
- 11:38Speaker 6: else says it, then they believe it more.
- 11:41Speaker 1: Like somebody saying they still do that. No, they still
- 11:45Speaker 1: do that. That still happens sometimes, you know, it sucks.
- 11:48Speaker 1: I want to punch you in the face. But you can't.
- 11:50Speaker 6: You can't you know, well, you might go to jail,
- 11:52Speaker 6: but you can.
- 11:54Speaker 3: Now it's not child.
- 11:59Speaker 6: Like.
- 11:59Speaker 3: It's that child Now, I'm just gonna gick.
- 12:04Speaker 4: Your We do not condone violence of any kind, we.
- 12:08Speaker 1: Any cind but some kids, you know what I don't know.
- 12:11Speaker 3: I don't know what is when I was a kid,
- 12:13Speaker 3: not that my father would hit me all the time,
- 12:15Speaker 3: but my hand like a really strict town a Sicilian
- 12:18Speaker 3: father like I did not mess around.
- 12:22Speaker 4: Ruler.
- 12:23Speaker 3: He would just go like this and I would run
- 12:24Speaker 3: and not with my mother. Oh my god, I would
- 12:27Speaker 3: get hit. She would throw shoes at me. I would laugh,
- 12:29Speaker 3: I'd run that poor.
- 12:30Speaker 1: Woman what I did.
- 12:31Speaker 3: But my dad never laid a hand on me because
- 12:33Speaker 3: I was One time he did once he'd hit me
- 12:36Speaker 3: with his belt because I set the backyard on fire.
- 12:38Speaker 3: But I did that, okay, but I was that was
- 12:42Speaker 3: the idea. Yeah I didn't do it on purpose, but
- 12:44Speaker 3: I was a kid, fair enough.
- 12:46Speaker 1: But you know who you could get away with things with.
- 12:49Speaker 1: Oh yeah, that's what it is, you know.
- 12:51Speaker 6: And that's why my kids asked me certain things that
- 12:53Speaker 6: they don't ask my wife because like petrified your wife
- 12:56Speaker 6: they'll know. I'm gonna probably say yes, of course.
- 13:00Speaker 3: Because that's what happens with dad's. Dads want to be
- 13:03Speaker 3: the bud. But then the why you know, wife, you know,
- 13:06Speaker 3: we get stuck with me in the discipline.
- 13:08Speaker 6: This discipline a lot also, I'm very especially when it's
- 13:11Speaker 6: about money, like you want what to go where?
- 13:13Speaker 4: Nope, you didn't clean your room, you didn't wash your dishes.
- 13:16Speaker 2: You know.
- 13:17Speaker 1: Do you give them jobs?
- 13:19Speaker 6: Yeah, it tastes like minor jobs. Like my oldest she's
- 13:22Speaker 6: in charge of doing the dishes. My son he's in
- 13:24Speaker 6: charge of sweeping the floor every night and then.
- 13:28Speaker 4: Washer foodles to them.
- 13:30Speaker 6: I have a post coming later this week about that. Yes,
- 13:32Speaker 6: a post coming later this week is exactly about that.
- 13:35Speaker 6: Just like you can't stuff everything in the dishwasher and
- 13:37Speaker 6: expect everything to be cleaning. It's not gonna happen. It
- 13:39Speaker 6: has to be able to reach the things. So, yes,
- 13:42Speaker 6: and they all have jobs. Whether they actually do them well,
