- 0:00Speaker 1: Earlier this week, Lane Kiffin took his turn on Pardon
- 0:04Speaker 1: My Take with Big Cat PFT and the Boys from Barstool.
- 0:10Speaker 1: Then they took the short drive hour down it in
- 0:13Speaker 1: j New Orleans towards the Saints facility and Kellen Moore
- 0:17Speaker 1: sat down on Pardon My Take.
- 0:19Speaker 2: That episode dropped today.
- 0:21Speaker 1: It was a lot of kind of what you'd expect,
- 0:26Speaker 1: some humor, some fluff. Kellen Moore's background, his time with
- 0:29Speaker 1: the Cowboys, with the Eagles, obviously, his first head coaching
- 0:33Speaker 1: job with the Saints. Why he's not in the College
- 0:36Speaker 1: with Paul Hall of Fame, which actually is a really
- 0:38Speaker 1: good question. Why Kellen Moore is not in the College
- 0:40Speaker 1: Football Hall of Fame yet? That will come eventually. But
- 0:46Speaker 1: there were a couple things that did strike me from
- 0:54Speaker 1: from the interview.
- 0:56Speaker 2: One of them was.
- 1:00Speaker 1: More talking about how you go about carrying over success
- 1:05Speaker 1: and what actually is the key to carrying over the
- 1:08Speaker 1: success from the four to one finish to the season
- 1:12Speaker 1: now into twenty twenty six where many people believe you
- 1:15Speaker 1: have a chance to win the NFC South.
- 1:19Speaker 3: I think there's parts to it. Obviously, there's a long
- 1:21Speaker 3: window between seasons. We get that, but there's a ton
- 1:24Speaker 3: of young guys who played late in the year. I
- 1:25Speaker 3: think that's that says a lot about those guys, you know, developing,
- 1:28Speaker 3: and you know, obviously those guys are going to carry
- 1:30Speaker 3: on some big roles moving forward.
- 1:32Speaker 1: When I hear the young guys, it's easy to just
- 1:34Speaker 1: look offensive right there, Not that there weren't players you
- 1:38Speaker 1: know defensively, but it's easy to look at it offensive
- 1:41Speaker 1: because well, just look at your offensive line and your
- 1:44Speaker 1: two tackles.
- 1:47Speaker 2: Right, I mean.
- 1:50Speaker 1: Tali Fuaga was in a second year, was your right
- 1:56Speaker 1: tackle for the entire season after playing left tackles. He's
- 2:00Speaker 1: now got two full seasons starting in the NFL, one
- 2:03Speaker 1: at each position. That's huge, and you saw a much
- 2:06Speaker 1: better performance from him, and right tackle than left makes sense,
- 2:10Speaker 1: it's where you played in college. And then I mean,
- 2:12Speaker 1: Kelvin Banks was a rookie and was one of, if
- 2:17Speaker 1: not the highest graded rook and he was the highest
- 2:19Speaker 1: graded rookie left tackle in the NFL a year ago.
- 2:25Speaker 2: That's great. Obviously, Tyler Schuck goes into that.
- 2:31Speaker 1: Chris Olave while that was he's been in the league
- 2:35Speaker 1: a while, he's been out of the lineup with injuries
- 2:37Speaker 1: and things of that nature, so you got a full
- 2:39Speaker 1: season out of him for only the second time. You
- 2:42Speaker 1: like what you saw there. You got some decent stuff
- 2:47Speaker 1: out of the running back spot. You saw some of
- 2:51Speaker 1: the young guys, I mean, Chase Young is still a
- 2:53Speaker 1: young guy do well defensively. I think you like what
- 2:59Speaker 1: you saw from Danny Stutsman and the limited action that
- 3:01Speaker 1: he was able to get. So you went about building
- 3:05Speaker 1: a nice cores. And more importantly, Kellen Moore was able
- 3:11Speaker 1: to build his culture in New Orleans. And that's why
- 3:20Speaker 1: when you look at them letting to Mario Davis walk,
- 3:24Speaker 1: you can feel okay with that from a culture standpoint,
- 3:29Speaker 1: because it's now Kellen Moore's franchise and he was able
- 3:32Speaker 1: to instill that. And I think there's no greater example
- 3:36Speaker 1: of that than the way the Saints finished the season.
- 3:39Speaker 2: Yeah, you know what, you didn't play the best.
- 3:42Speaker 1: Of teams down the stretch, right, You got to play
- 3:46Speaker 1: the Titans who finished with six wins, the Jets who
- 3:49Speaker 1: finished with five, like you know, you got to play
- 3:54Speaker 1: teams that weren't I'm sorry the Jets had not finished
- 3:56Speaker 1: with five wins.
- 3:57Speaker 2: I misspoke there. They were actually much worse than that.
- 4:01Speaker 1: But you you got to you got to beat up,
- 4:05Speaker 1: maybe on a lesser schedule, but look, it's same same vein.
- 4:13Speaker 1: You lost to the Arizona Cardinals early in the year, Right,
- 4:18Speaker 1: they've hired their coach, all right, you lost to Tampa
- 4:23Speaker 1: midway through the season, so it bounced itself out. And
- 4:29Speaker 1: I think a great illustration of that and the culture
- 4:33Speaker 1: being established was this cut from Kellen Moore and they
- 4:37Speaker 1: the guys on part of my take, asked him what
- 4:40Speaker 1: he learned from Mike McCarthy.
- 4:43Speaker 3: Just really steady, h really consistent day in and day out,
- 4:46Speaker 3: weekend and week out. I think, uh, you know what
- 4:49Speaker 3: they had so much success year after year in Green
- 4:51Speaker 3: Bay as well, was, you know, just their consistency. And
- 4:53Speaker 3: I think it was because everything was so steady that
- 4:56Speaker 3: you know, the NFL is about highs and lows, no
- 4:58Speaker 3: matter what we do. You know, two years ago, you're
- 5:01Speaker 3: in Philly at one point where two and two in
- 5:02Speaker 3: Philly and the whole world's gonna fall apart because we
- 5:05Speaker 3: lost to Tampa. And you know, the teams that can
- 5:07Speaker 3: kind of stay steady, those are the teams that have
- 5:10Speaker 3: success Towards the end.
- 5:13Speaker 1: The teams that stay steady have success towards the end.
- 5:16Speaker 1: The New Orleans Saints stayed steady a year ago and
- 5:20Speaker 1: he was able to bring that in that didn't happen
- 5:23Speaker 1: with the previous regime. There was no steadiness to this.
- 5:28Speaker 1: The New Orleans Saints started one in eight, one in
- 5:33Speaker 1: eight and then finished sixth and eleven, with the four
- 5:38Speaker 1: out of five being the catalyst for that. So that's
- 5:41Speaker 1: the part for me that I look up with the
- 5:43Speaker 1: Saints and I go, man, hmm, that's the encouraging part.
- 5:50Speaker 1: We were talking earlier about what Tyler Shuck has to
- 5:52Speaker 1: do to show that he's the franchise quarterback. We said, Oh,
- 5:55Speaker 1: if it's you know, when the division take you to
- 5:59Speaker 1: the playoff in his first full season, you might be
- 6:01Speaker 1: asking a lot there. But if it's go out there,
- 6:06Speaker 1: have a really productive season, throw for over three thousand yards,
- 6:09Speaker 1: increase the touchdowns, the touchdown interception rate gets better, sixty
- 6:12Speaker 1: five completion percent or more completion percentage, and your offense
- 6:17Speaker 1: has a good year, You'll feel really good there. And
- 6:19Speaker 1: you would think a lot of those production would follow
- 6:21Speaker 1: with the wins, right, But yeah, you moved on from
- 6:25Speaker 1: some aging veteran players, so maybe there are still some
- 6:29Speaker 1: holes on this team. That costs you wins even with
- 6:32Speaker 1: an offense playing well. But the one thing you shouldn't
- 6:35Speaker 1: be concerned about is them staying steady. Because Kelvin Moore
- 6:40Speaker 1: is a rookie head coach and he admittedly made mistakes
- 6:45Speaker 1: early in the year.
- 6:46Speaker 2: All rookie head coaches do.
- 6:48Speaker 1: You got a whole new crop of them coming in
- 6:50Speaker 1: for twenty twenty six, and guess what, They're all gonna
- 6:53Speaker 1: make mistakes early in the season. You'll get to play
- 6:57Speaker 1: one of them in Jesse Minter week two with the
- 6:59Speaker 1: Baltimore But the culture being established, that was my big
- 7:04Speaker 1: takeaway really with those two, those two answers from Kellen
- 7:08Speaker 1: Moore in a thirty four minute interview with the guys
- 7:12Speaker 1: over at Barstool, those two stood out head shoulders above
- 7:15Speaker 1: all because it really shows why they were able to
- 7:20Speaker 1: have success a year ago and why you should see
- 7:24Speaker 1: them have suce at the end of the year, I
- 7:25Speaker 1: should say, ye ago, and why you should feel confident
- 7:27Speaker 1: that they're going to have success going into year two
- 7:32Speaker 1: under Kellen Moore.
- 7:33Speaker 2: The culture is there.
- 7:35Speaker 1: You've shored up your offense, can you get enough out
- 7:38Speaker 1: of your defense with what you've added in free agency
- 7:41Speaker 1: and letting ghost of aging players to make a run
- 7:44Speaker 1: at the division and return to the playoffs for the
- 7:47Speaker 1: first time since twenty
