- 0:47Speaker 1: Philadelphia Sports Table podcast show, the longest running weekly Philly
- 0:51Speaker 1: sports podcast show in the world. That's right over eleven
- 0:53Speaker 1: and a half year strong. We got a great discussion
- 0:56Speaker 1: coming your way about the world of Philly sports. Lots
- 0:59Speaker 1: of story lines, a lot of teams doing a lot
- 1:02Speaker 1: of different things. We're gonna get into the Flyers and
- 1:05Speaker 1: they made a trade. They made a trade, amazingly enough,
- 1:08Speaker 1: Danny Briere made a a an instrumental trade, and it's
- 1:14Speaker 1: really gonna determine in some ways where this team and
- 1:17Speaker 1: organization go in the future. After that, we're gonna get
- 1:20Speaker 1: into some NBA and Sixers talk, and from there I'm
- 1:23Speaker 1: gonna get into our Super Bowl preview. Yes, the Eagles,
- 1:28Speaker 1: if you haven't heard, they're heading to the Super Bowl.
- 1:30Speaker 1: I'm Jeff Warren gonna we heard my buddy Len Hunsicker Lynn.
- 1:33Speaker 1: You heard the Eagles are going to the Super Bowl, right.
- 1:36Speaker 2: I mean, if if you haven't heard. But I don't
- 1:39Speaker 2: know why you're.
- 1:40Speaker 3: Listening to this show because it doesn't seem like it
- 1:42Speaker 3: would be an interest.
- 1:43Speaker 1: Of yours exactly. I mean, it's the title of the show.
- 1:46Speaker 1: It's our super Bowl preview show.
- 1:48Speaker 3: I don't like Philadelphia and I don't like sports, but
- 1:51Speaker 3: I don't gonna listen the show anyway, exactly.
- 1:53Speaker 2: The Eagles are in the Super Bowl. What.
- 1:54Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm gonna miss your buddy. I know you got
- 1:59Speaker 1: some person some stuff going on, but you know some
- 2:01Speaker 1: of our buddy's going to be getting together with their
- 2:03Speaker 1: families to watch the Super Bowl. Hopefully the Eagles are
- 2:06Speaker 1: gonna be able to get that get that second Lombardi Trophy.
- 2:10Speaker 2: Man.
- 2:10Speaker 1: I'm gonna miss you, though, buddy.
- 2:11Speaker 3: I'm I'm kind of wondering because like if you remember
- 2:15Speaker 3: when when when you know, we were all together when they.
- 2:21Speaker 1: Beat New England up at Penn Style yep.
- 2:23Speaker 3: Yeah, and and like that was that game was like
- 2:26Speaker 3: a four hour heart attack for me. Yeah, if there
- 2:29Speaker 3: was a Brown paperbag for me to hyperventilate it too.
- 2:32Speaker 2: I would have had it.
- 2:33Speaker 1: I remember looking at you at the in the bar
- 2:35Speaker 1: and just being like, I don't know if he's gonna
- 2:37Speaker 1: make it.
- 2:37Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm not quite there in terms of my level
- 2:41Speaker 3: of hatred.
- 2:44Speaker 2: Okay, the Chiefs as I was at that time with
- 2:47Speaker 2: the Patriots.
- 2:47Speaker 3: Yeah, but there is like like a certain part of
- 2:51Speaker 3: me like it was with the Patriots, where it's like,
- 2:54Speaker 3: come on, just don't lose.
- 2:55Speaker 2: Don't lose to this team. Yeah, I know, yeah, and
- 2:59Speaker 2: I wonder.
- 3:00Speaker 3: I don't think I'm gonna know until the game actually
- 3:03Speaker 3: kicks off, like how much.
- 3:05Speaker 2: Of that I'm gonna feel?
- 3:07Speaker 3: Yeah, but I already know because I am tired of
- 3:10Speaker 3: the Chiefs.
- 3:11Speaker 2: I don't know how any everybody get there.
- 3:13Speaker 3: Yes, I don't know anybody is that that listens to
- 3:15Speaker 3: this show. But for me, if a team wins a
- 3:19Speaker 3: bunch of times, I just get tired. Happened with the
- 3:22Speaker 3: Golden State Warriors, you know, and name any dynasty after
- 3:25Speaker 3: a while, just like okay, enough, like I can't I'm
- 3:28Speaker 3: done with this. I'm done watching this because then they're
- 3:31Speaker 3: on commercials all the time and all that, Just like okay,
- 3:34Speaker 3: go away, and that's where that's where I've been there
- 3:36Speaker 3: with Chiefs for a while, but especially now more so
- 3:39Speaker 3: that they're playing my team again.
- 3:41Speaker 2: I'm just like, don't lose to these guys. I just
- 3:44Speaker 2: I can't.
- 3:46Speaker 3: I want I want State Farm to have to find
- 3:48Speaker 3: more different people to do commercials.
- 3:50Speaker 1: I cannot believe that you just mentioned that, because I
- 3:53Speaker 1: was going to say, I cannot stand Andy Reid. I
- 3:56Speaker 1: can't believe he agreed to do the fumble Rooski in
- 4:01Speaker 1: his dumb face and his stupid fumble risky and.
- 4:07Speaker 2: If if if a company is going to offer you a.
- 4:10Speaker 3: Ton of money to do that, yeah, well I mean
- 4:15Speaker 3: most people would take that. Yes, if if the Eagles
- 4:19Speaker 3: somehow win this one and win another two, believe me,
- 4:23Speaker 3: you're gonna see Nick Sirianni bo jangling in some commercial
- 4:27Speaker 3: for some company soon enough.
- 4:30Speaker 2: You will.
- 4:30Speaker 1: What do you think it'll be? Will we be yelling
- 4:32Speaker 1: at people, you know, like just trying to own him
- 4:35Speaker 1: as he's walking through the tunnel or something.
- 4:37Speaker 2: And him and Big Dom will be doing some Italian thing.
- 4:40Speaker 1: I'm sure exactly. Get Big domind you know, get.
- 4:43Speaker 2: Him into the fold doing some pizzads or something.
- 4:46Speaker 1: You know right well, we're gonna get into some Eagles
- 4:49Speaker 1: talking a little bit, everybody, But let's start off with
- 4:52Speaker 1: this Philadelphia Flyers team. The Flyers, as many of us
- 4:55Speaker 1: know who follows the team, have traded Joel Ferraby Morgan
- 4:59Speaker 1: Frost to the cowb Flames for Jacob Peltier and Andre Kuzmenko.
- 5:06Speaker 1: And oh, by the way, the Flyers are also going
- 5:10Speaker 1: to get a twenty twenty five second round pick and
- 5:12Speaker 1: also a twenty twenty eight seventh round pick. When this
- 5:16Speaker 1: came through, I'm thinking to myself, my gosh, Danny Brier
- 5:20Speaker 1: actually did it, Lynn, He actually made a significant trade
- 5:24Speaker 1: that helped put this team, an organization into that next
- 5:29Speaker 1: realm of the rebuild. Did this trade really help to
- 5:33Speaker 1: clarify the future of the organization and the nature of
- 5:36Speaker 1: the rebuild? I say that it has a lot of
- 5:39Speaker 1: folks have been questioning it because, you know, we saw
- 5:43Speaker 1: them tinkering around, We saw Danny Brier tinkering around last year,
- 5:47Speaker 1: you know, just getting some guys out of the building
- 5:50Speaker 1: that really weren't going to be you know, whether it
- 5:52Speaker 1: was from a I don't say culture standpoint, but you
- 5:55Speaker 1: just knew they weren't going to be on the team.
- 5:57Speaker 1: We've all kind of been waiting to see. Okay, what's
- 5:59Speaker 1: Danny Brier going to do? You know, is he going
- 6:01Speaker 1: to try to get that center of the future. Is
- 6:03Speaker 1: he going to try to you know, take some money
- 6:06Speaker 1: off the books. And that's exactly what he did. He
- 6:09Speaker 1: did that with this trade, and I think it is
- 6:13Speaker 1: going to end up putting this team in a direction
- 6:17Speaker 1: one that needed to go into from a financial standpoint.
- 6:20Speaker 1: Getting Joel Ferraby and Morgan Frost off the books, It's
- 6:24Speaker 1: going to allow them to play around a little bit
- 6:26Speaker 1: in free agency this coming off season, and with that
- 6:30Speaker 1: being said, puts them in a good direction, whether it
- 6:34Speaker 1: is to get that center for the future. They've got
- 6:36Speaker 1: some they got They've got three first round draft picks
- 6:39Speaker 1: that are you know, gonna be right around the corner here.
- 6:42Speaker 1: So overall, of course, I'm gonna miss Joel Ferrabi and
- 6:45Speaker 1: Morgan I really am. I'm gonna miss especially Joel Farabi.
- 6:48Speaker 1: I'm gonna miss him a ton, you know, a guy
- 6:51Speaker 1: who all he wanted was John Tortorella's love. I'm gonna
- 6:54Speaker 1: miss him. But I understand why the trade was done here.
- 6:58Speaker 1: I don't know, what were your initial thoughts and reactions.
- 7:01Speaker 2: I mean a couple of things.
- 7:03Speaker 3: Clearly, they're you know, they do have things they're trying
- 7:06Speaker 3: to accomplish here, and one of them is kind of
- 7:08Speaker 3: clearing the decks in terms of and I don't know,
- 7:11Speaker 3: I should have looked a little bit more in terms
- 7:13Speaker 3: of who was out there maybe this offseason or even
- 7:16Speaker 3: the one beyond that, in terms of like getting a
- 7:19Speaker 3: legitimate star number one center, which is something that they need,
- 7:24Speaker 3: something that they've coveted for a while. You know, you've
- 7:27Speaker 3: got a guy in Kuzmenko whose money is coming off
- 7:29Speaker 3: the books after this year, so that's going to clear
- 7:32Speaker 3: some space. The NHL cap is finally, you know, post
- 7:37Speaker 3: COVID finally supposed to go up substantially over the next
- 7:40Speaker 3: couple of years. So that's something too in terms of,
- 7:44Speaker 3: you know, yeah, everybody's going to have more money, but
- 7:46Speaker 3: if the Flyers can kind of clear the decks of
- 7:49Speaker 3: you know, some salary, it's just going to make them
- 7:52Speaker 3: have that much more in terms of in terms.
- 7:55Speaker 2: Of just money to play with.
- 7:57Speaker 3: And the other thing is just like I mean, we
- 8:01Speaker 3: knew Fra I don't know, it feels like Morgan Frost
- 8:03Speaker 3: has been on the trade block for like two or
- 8:05Speaker 3: three years straight at this point ten years. Yeah, I mean,
- 8:09Speaker 3: I mean like that, that's something like he's always been
- 8:13Speaker 3: seen as like a guy that Tortorello doesn't like, a
- 8:16Speaker 3: guy that he wants to get out of here. But like,
- 8:18Speaker 3: my thing is, like, Okay, these are two first round
- 8:21Speaker 3: picks in Farrabee and Frost that.
- 8:24Speaker 2: You've now shipped down.
- 8:25Speaker 3: It's just like, okay, do we need to talk about
- 8:30Speaker 3: the developmental because if you're shipping out two first round
- 8:34Speaker 3: picks that didn't fit into your future, what does that
- 8:38Speaker 3: say about your ail your ability to develop players.
- 8:43Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I don't know that.
- 8:45Speaker 3: That is a bit of a worry for me. So
- 8:48Speaker 3: you know, there's there's certain there's certain you know, pluses
- 8:51Speaker 3: and all that stuff. You know, because Meco is a
- 8:53Speaker 3: guy that Mitchkoff has you know, has played with in
- 8:57Speaker 3: the past of the KHL, he has familiarity with, you know,
- 9:00Speaker 3: it's not going to hurt getting another guy that communicate
- 9:03Speaker 3: can communicate with him because he's your star of the future.
- 9:07Speaker 3: You want to make him more comfortable. So I get
- 9:09Speaker 3: all that from that standpoint, But yeah, I think the
- 9:13Speaker 3: main thing is the is the flexibility down the road,
- 9:16Speaker 3: and I've been trying to make sure you can do that.
- 9:18Speaker 1: Well I'm glad you said that there, because I think
- 9:22Speaker 1: what this trade does most for the Flyers it gives
- 9:26Speaker 1: them the theoretical ability to get into the acquisition game here.
- 9:29Speaker 1: Like I said, you know, whether it's via free agency,
- 9:32Speaker 1: whatever the whatever, the manner in which that acquisition game
- 9:35Speaker 1: is now going to be able to be played by
- 9:37Speaker 1: the Flyers. The front office had long been adamant in
- 9:41Speaker 1: the past lend that this wasn't even an option for
- 9:44Speaker 1: at least another calendar year. But now it's going to
- 9:47Speaker 1: be an option this coming off season. And that's what
- 9:50Speaker 1: I like about it, because I do think it's it's
- 9:52Speaker 1: I think it's a bit aggressive and.
- 9:54Speaker 2: Maybe before too. I mean that's true until March seventh.
- 9:58Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, we we've heard about you know, and
- 10:01Speaker 3: maybe they don't get rid of them because I know
- 10:02Speaker 3: they like him to an extent.
- 10:04Speaker 2: But you know, how long have we heard about riskt
- 10:06Speaker 2: the linen too? Yeah?
- 10:08Speaker 3: You know, so that does this by no stretch is
- 10:12Speaker 3: like a thing of like, okay, we're done. I mean
- 10:14Speaker 3: there's a long time. There's over a month between now
- 10:16Speaker 3: and March seventh. Yes, you know, absolutely stuff could happen there.
- 10:20Speaker 1: Absolutely, And just to let folks know when Len and
- 10:23Speaker 1: I are recording this, like I said right at the
- 10:25Speaker 1: onset of the show before the music came in, Len
- 10:27Speaker 1: and I recording Tuesday night, February fourth. At this point
- 10:31Speaker 1: in time, we've got Peltier and Kuzmenko who aren't even
- 10:35Speaker 1: on the team yet, even though this trade happened back
- 10:38Speaker 1: Thursday last week. So here's here's what is actually happening. Here,
- 10:44Speaker 1: here's what is actually happening. It's not a travel issue
- 10:49Speaker 1: or anything like that. It boils down to the fact
- 10:51Speaker 1: that both Peltier and Kuzmenko need US work visas before
- 10:54Speaker 1: they're allowed to play a game for a US based
- 10:57Speaker 1: NHL team. Now, a U citizen wouldn't need a work visa,
- 11:02Speaker 1: of course in this situation, but Peltia who is Canadian,
- 11:05Speaker 1: and Kuzmenko, who's Russian, that's the issue here. The work
- 11:12Speaker 1: visa process could have been expedited had either play or
- 11:15Speaker 1: played for a US team in the past, but both
- 11:18Speaker 1: players have spent their entire NHL careers playing for Canadian clubs. Therefore,
- 11:23Speaker 1: they never needed US paperwork in the past, that paperwork
- 11:27Speaker 1: from the US government is now in the process of
- 11:30Speaker 1: getting processed, and that's what the actual hold up is here,
- 11:34Speaker 1: So you know, So I swear to God, some people
- 11:36Speaker 1: online were like, well, there's our new government in the
- 11:39Speaker 1: United States. They're holding it up. It's like Jesus Christ, no,
- 11:41Speaker 1: they're not.
- 11:42Speaker 3: Here's the thing though about that is, like, you know,
- 11:46Speaker 3: if you're an NHL player, shouldn't and I don't know
- 11:49Speaker 3: what the processes in terms of this, but shouldn't that
- 11:52Speaker 3: be like priority number one for your agent to get
- 11:55Speaker 3: all And maybe you can't do this if you're playing
- 11:58Speaker 3: for a Canadian team, maybe you can't amptively go and
- 12:01Speaker 3: get that US visa just in case. But like you know,
- 12:05Speaker 3: three quarters of the teams in the NHL are in America. Yes,
- 12:10Speaker 3: eventually you are going to play in the United States.
- 12:15Speaker 3: If you bounce around between two or three teams in
- 12:18Speaker 3: your career, guess what, at some point one of those
- 12:21Speaker 3: teams is going to be based in America. So like,
- 12:23Speaker 3: I don't know, maybe that's not something that you Maybe
- 12:26Speaker 3: it's a we have to wait until we get to
- 12:28Speaker 3: that bridge before we cross it kind of deal. Maybe,
- 12:31Speaker 3: But there's a part of me that's like if I
- 12:33Speaker 3: was a Canadian citizen, like I would be bugging my
- 12:37Speaker 3: agent like, hey, just in case I get traded, like, yeah,
- 12:40Speaker 3: can we get this stuff done early?
- 12:41Speaker 1: Exactly. Yeah. I'm not sure actually how that works, believe
- 12:44Speaker 1: it or not. But like I said, you've read a
- 12:46Speaker 1: lot of stuff on the interwebs out there, and we
- 12:49Speaker 1: of course know this past week what has gone on
- 12:51Speaker 1: between the United States and Canada, and people have their
- 12:54Speaker 1: conspiracy theories. Now, folks, you know, yes, there may be
- 12:58Speaker 1: some quote logical thought processes to that, but at the
- 13:03Speaker 1: end of the day, you've got billionaires that want to
- 13:05Speaker 1: get their players over to the United States or billionaires
- 13:08Speaker 1: that want to get their players up to Canada. It's
- 13:11Speaker 1: gonna it's gonna happen. It's gonna happen quickly. The process
- 13:13Speaker 1: is gonna be expedited. I just don't think they It
- 13:16Speaker 1: was a Thursday, was a terrible day to get this
- 13:18Speaker 1: done in terms in terms of the in terms of
- 13:20Speaker 1: the paperwork, and it being processed quite frankly, so, I
- 13:24Speaker 1: don't know. I just wanted to throw that out there
- 13:26Speaker 1: for everybody, just to let folks know by the time
- 13:28Speaker 1: people are hearing this. Uh, Peltier and chaus Manco, they
- 13:32Speaker 1: might already be on the team. So that but that
- 13:34Speaker 1: was what the hold up was at this point, Lend,
- 13:36Speaker 1: do you have anything else for the flyers here before
- 13:39Speaker 1: we head onto some sixers in NBA?
- 13:41Speaker 3: Talk well to me again, you know cuz Manco. I
- 13:47Speaker 3: maybe he'll be good. He was great as a rookie.
- 13:50Speaker 3: Maybe he refines that you know, that form at some point.
- 13:53Speaker 3: But to me, I look at him more as an
- 13:55Speaker 3: expiring contract. Peltier, you know, could be something. Also that
- 14:01Speaker 3: second round pick, Like you now have three first round
- 14:05Speaker 3: picks and four second round You have seven picks in
- 14:08Speaker 3: the first two rounds of this upcoming draft, So I
- 14:12Speaker 3: wonder how that works out of it becomes like, okay,
- 14:16Speaker 3: you know, we have our our first pick of the
- 14:17Speaker 3: first round, but maybe we do like a little package
- 14:20Speaker 3: of you know, maybe our our last first round pick
- 14:23Speaker 3: including and some second round picks, and we use that
- 14:26Speaker 3: to move up a little bit here in the in
- 14:29Speaker 3: the first round of the draft. That that to me,
- 14:33Speaker 3: it seems like I can't imagine they're going to take
- 14:36Speaker 3: seven players in the first two rounds.
- 14:38Speaker 1: Actually get that center of the future you never know.
- 14:42Speaker 3: Yeah, maybe or maybe maybe some of those picks get
- 14:44Speaker 3: you know, thrown into a package for for a you know,
- 14:47Speaker 3: a star center. That's certainly possibility as well. But yeah,
- 14:50Speaker 3: I I would eat my shoe if if they use
- 14:56Speaker 3: all seven of.
- 14:57Speaker 2: Those first round picks, absolutely for two round picks. I
- 15:00Speaker 2: don't think there's any way.
- 15:01Speaker 1: Yeah, And like you're saying, who knows what Kuzmenco's future
- 15:04Speaker 1: is going to be too, because you know, I was
- 15:06Speaker 1: reading some stuff where many in the hockey world have
- 15:09Speaker 1: been wondering about his potential fit with John Tortorella. You know,
- 15:12Speaker 1: given Cuzmenco's playing style as well, didn't really seem to
- 15:15Speaker 1: be a fit for the Tort's style of play, So
- 15:19Speaker 1: who knows ale to work together.
- 15:21Speaker 3: Going back to the whole thing with the two first
- 15:23Speaker 3: round picks, it's just like, you know, if you're a
- 15:28Speaker 3: coach that has a reputation of being rough on younger
- 15:33Speaker 3: players and then you just and you ship out two
- 15:35Speaker 3: guys that were former first round picks.
- 15:37Speaker 2: Yeah, they're so young.
- 15:39Speaker 3: I mean, I mean, whether it's true or not, it
- 15:42Speaker 3: kind of reinforces that stereotype, doesn't it.
- 15:45Speaker 1: I think it does. I think it does.
- 15:47Speaker 2: Yeah, So I don't know.
- 15:50Speaker 3: There was a whole thing the other night of you know,
- 15:53Speaker 3: Tortorella and Mitchkalff kind of having an animated conversation on
- 15:56Speaker 3: the bench with each other. It's just like, oh yeah,
- 15:59Speaker 3: I mean I can understand why there would be a
- 16:01Speaker 3: certain segment of the Flyers fan base that sees that
- 16:04Speaker 3: and goes, oh God, here we go again. He's gonna
- 16:07Speaker 3: run off every promising young player that we have.
- 16:10Speaker 1: Beach Cub's English that good were there? You know, is
- 16:14Speaker 1: it got that good man?
- 16:16Speaker 3: I would love to know that, to be honest with you, like,
- 16:18Speaker 3: how much does he understand exactly?
- 16:21Speaker 2: I mean, listen, if somebody.
- 16:24Speaker 3: Language yeah, you know, and has a certain look on
- 16:26Speaker 3: their face, you probably, even if you don't know what
- 16:28Speaker 3: they're saying, you probably are like, Okay, this guy's not
- 16:31Speaker 3: happy with me. Like, I'm sure you can figure that
- 16:34Speaker 3: out exactly exactly.
- 16:36Speaker 1: All right, Well, good, good Flyers talk there. Let's uh
- 16:39Speaker 1: move on to some NBA and some Sixers talk. I mean,
- 16:43Speaker 1: we have to get into it. I know we're a
- 16:45Speaker 1: Philly sports based show, we don't always stick with Philly sports.
- 16:48Speaker 1: We talk about various leagues, we talk about different storylines,
- 16:52Speaker 1: whether it's the NFL, NBA, Major League baseball hockey as well.
- 16:57Speaker 1: We talked at Philadelphia Union and Just League soccer as well.
- 17:01Speaker 1: But we got a first len get into the Luca trade,
- 17:06Speaker 1: the Mavericks trading Luca to the Golden State Warriors. So
- 17:10Speaker 1: the Mavericks traded Luka, Doncik Maxi Kleber uh uh Kleeber, MARRICKF. Morris,
- 17:18Speaker 1: I believe arkeif Morris, sorry, Marrakev, I can't. I can't read.
- 17:24Speaker 2: His name. Isn't John White? So you ain't. You're gonna
- 17:27Speaker 2: have trouble with it?
- 17:28Speaker 1: Yes, John White. We haven't heard that one in a while.
- 17:33Speaker 1: So the Lakers got those gentlemen in exchange for ten
- 17:37Speaker 1: time All Star Anthony Davis, as we know, Max Christy
- 17:40Speaker 1: in a twenty twenty nine first round pick. We saw this,
- 17:44Speaker 1: The world saw this and was like, oh, man, shams,
- 17:47Speaker 1: he got he got he got hacked. Everybody was saying
- 17:51Speaker 1: he got hacked. There's no way this is going on.
- 17:53Speaker 1: Then we're like, oh, other other accounts must have gotten
- 17:56Speaker 1: hacked too. Oh wait, this is actually happening. This is
- 18:01Speaker 1: happening here, my god. Apparently the Utah Jazz were also
- 18:05Speaker 1: involved in the deal and took on the contract of
- 18:07Speaker 1: second year guard Jalen Jalen hood Scuffino or I think
- 18:12Speaker 1: that's his name. Yeah, while getting landing two future second
- 18:17Speaker 1: round picks. Len I was absolutely amazed by this. I
- 18:22Speaker 1: was amazed by it in so many ways. And then
- 18:25Speaker 1: on our thread okay that we have going on with
- 18:28Speaker 1: our buddies, Eric said something tonight as I'm watching my
- 18:31Speaker 1: daughter at her karate training class, and he said, there's
- 18:36Speaker 1: a really good theory out there about the MAVs new
- 18:38Speaker 1: owner and how they want to tank the team in
- 18:41Speaker 1: order to move them to Vegas because Texas isn't playing
- 18:44Speaker 1: ball with their plans to create legal gambling in that state.
- 18:48Speaker 1: And I was like, oh man, I was like, there's
- 18:51Speaker 1: some juice there. Now. I don't know if that is
- 18:54Speaker 1: the case of why Luka Doncik was traded to the
- 18:57Speaker 1: Golden State Warriors. But this just reaked of something really
- 19:01Speaker 1: stinky and not just okay, Luca's not in shape. It's
- 19:05Speaker 1: a conditioning thing. It's not a great culture type of guy.
- 19:09Speaker 1: I don't know, this just kind of reeked of like
- 19:11Speaker 1: something else, possibly behind the scenes. I was absolutely shocked.
- 19:14Speaker 1: Everybody was shocked. I'm sure you were shocked when you
- 19:17Speaker 1: heard this news coming down, But like I just kind
- 19:20Speaker 1: of wonder what this means for like future trades too,
- 19:23Speaker 1: not that other teams are gonna necessarily go this direction.
- 19:25Speaker 1: I think what Eric said actually may have some validity
- 19:28Speaker 1: to it, because at the end of the day, billionaires
- 19:31Speaker 1: are billionaires, and they want to make money, and they
- 19:32Speaker 1: want to make even more billions. And Las Vegas it
- 19:36Speaker 1: is a growing market, certainly, not as large a market
- 19:39Speaker 1: as the Dallas market for sure, but there's new opportunities
- 19:43Speaker 1: in Las Vegas for sports teams that we're seeing various
- 19:45Speaker 1: sports teams going there, whether it is the Raiders or
- 19:49Speaker 1: you know, whether it is you know, the Golden Knights
- 19:51Speaker 1: having you know, haven't seen some success there. So I
- 19:54Speaker 1: don't know what are your thoughts here when it comes
- 19:56Speaker 1: to the Luca trade and just like kind of what
- 19:58Speaker 1: it means overall.
- 20:00Speaker 2: Well, I mean, obviously I was very surprised.
- 20:03Speaker 3: I mean, you can have an argument on where you
- 20:07Speaker 3: think Luca falls in the hierarchy of NBA players, but
- 20:11Speaker 3: he is, at the bare minimum a top ten player
- 20:14Speaker 3: in the league. I would say he's top five, But
- 20:19Speaker 3: you know, even if you wanted to, you know, downgrade
- 20:21Speaker 3: him a little bit. You can't put him as less
- 20:24Speaker 3: than a top ten player in the league. You know,
- 20:28Speaker 3: he's a guy that took your team to the finals.
- 20:32Speaker 2: Just this last year.
- 20:33Speaker 3: Yes, and you're getting rid of a twenty five year
- 20:37Speaker 3: old guy who is already one of the top ten
- 20:40Speaker 3: players in the league and took your team to the
- 20:42Speaker 3: finals last year. Like, I think it's colossally dumb. Maybe
- 20:47Speaker 3: there is something to the whole thing, and maybe that's
- 20:50Speaker 3: why I'm not a billionaire and I don't understand finance.
- 20:52Speaker 3: But like, to me, you're moving from the fourth biggest
- 20:55Speaker 3: TV market in Dallas Fort Worth in the country to
- 20:59Speaker 3: the fortieth in Las Vegas. Tell me how that makes sense.
- 21:03Speaker 3: And also you're a destination because Texas and maybe Nevada
- 21:08Speaker 3: doesn't as well. I don't know about Nevada, but I
- 21:11Speaker 3: do know that Texas doesn't have state taxes and that's
- 21:13Speaker 3: why people want to go there.
- 21:15Speaker 2: Yeah, that's why people.
- 21:15Speaker 3: Go to Texas. And that's why people go to Florida.
- 21:18Speaker 3: It's not just because the weather's warm, it's because they
- 21:20Speaker 3: don't have to pay state taxes. So are you giving
- 21:24Speaker 3: that up? Are you giving up your your status as
- 21:28Speaker 3: a destination for free agents because you know, and maybe
- 21:32Speaker 3: billionaires don't care about that kind of thing, but if you're,
- 21:36Speaker 3: you know, thinking about building a team, man, that matters.
- 21:41Speaker 3: It should anyway, because that's a whole hook to get
- 21:44Speaker 3: people to sign with your team. So I don't know,
- 21:46Speaker 3: I mean, maybe there's a lot of stuff in here
- 21:48Speaker 3: that I don't see as somebody that's not.
- 21:51Speaker 2: That business inclined or whatever. But it's just strange to
- 21:54Speaker 2: me that theory. I don't know. I don't know to
- 21:58Speaker 2: see more before I buy it exactly.
- 22:00Speaker 1: Look, I mean, there are front office personnel around the
- 22:03Speaker 1: league that are baffled by the way Dallas handled this
- 22:07Speaker 1: entire thing, as we've read reports, you know, prioritizing discretion
- 22:11Speaker 1: over the process, and a great.
- 22:12Speaker 3: Article on ESPN about that, because and think about that,
- 22:17Speaker 3: like when you heard about it, like whenever there's a trade,
- 22:21Speaker 3: you know, the way sports media is, you usually know
- 22:25Speaker 3: when something's going down.
- 22:27Speaker 1: This was all Cloak and Daggers.
- 22:28Speaker 2: This came out of nowhere.
- 22:30Speaker 3: Yeah, and it was and to to the point of
- 22:34Speaker 3: the whole thing, Houston, who was the third team that
- 22:38Speaker 3: was facilitating that that trade, you know, Danny Ainge, former Celtic,
- 22:43Speaker 3: you know, a long time rival of the Lakers runs Utah,
- 22:49Speaker 3: and he didn't know until the last moment. He All
- 22:52Speaker 3: he knew was his team was facilitating there was a
- 22:55Speaker 3: third party facilitating the seal. He didn't know who was
- 22:58Speaker 3: getting moved. He didn't know the teams that were involved.
- 23:00Speaker 3: I guarantee, if he knew that Luka Doncis was going
- 23:04Speaker 3: to the to the Lakers, his his art rival team,
- 23:07Speaker 3: he probably would have said, I'm not going to help
- 23:11Speaker 3: that happen, right exactly, you know, especially because it's LA
- 23:15Speaker 3: I mean, it's it's a team that is, you know,
- 23:18Speaker 3: still in your conference, as if if he's you know,
- 23:20Speaker 3: in charge of Utah.
- 23:23Speaker 2: So yeah, I mean, why would why would he wanted to?
- 23:26Speaker 1: So?
- 23:27Speaker 3: Just the amount of people that knew about this, I
- 23:29Speaker 3: mean is so small. Lebron didn't know about it. Lebron
- 23:33Speaker 3: constantly gets ragged on as being the shadow GM of
- 23:36Speaker 3: the Lakers. He had no idea about it. That none
- 23:39Speaker 3: of the parties involved knew about it. It was it was
- 23:41Speaker 3: Dallas's GM, and it was Rob Polenka the Lakers GM.
- 23:46Speaker 3: Those are the only two really exactly if they didn't
- 23:49Speaker 3: get agents involved, like any of it.
- 23:52Speaker 1: It's incredible. Like I said, the cloak and dagger of
- 23:55Speaker 1: this was incredible. By the way, I think I said
- 23:57Speaker 1: the trade was with Did I say the trade was
- 24:00Speaker 1: with Golden State or did I say the Lakers?
- 24:03Speaker 2: I feel like I don't even remember.
- 24:05Speaker 1: I think I said it was with Golden State anyway,
- 24:09Speaker 1: But you're absolutely right. Behind the scenes. Stuff is just
- 24:14Speaker 1: so crazy. You know, even if Harrison and the MAVs
- 24:19Speaker 1: thought they were getting ahead of some other trouble with
- 24:22Speaker 1: with Luca, like a potential opt out in twenty twenty six,
- 24:26Speaker 1: all they've managed to do is speed right into the
- 24:29Speaker 1: team's disillusion with no tangible benefit whatsoever.
- 24:35Speaker 3: None, none, And maybe it was a savings thing because
- 24:37Speaker 3: I and I Eric would be great to have on
- 24:40Speaker 3: the show right now, because he really, as much as
- 24:43Speaker 3: he loves the finances, he follows the finances. And I
- 24:46Speaker 3: don't understand, but I know that Luca could if he
- 24:49Speaker 3: had remained with Dallas, would have been eligible for like
- 24:53Speaker 3: a three hundred and forty five million dollars super max deal.
- 24:57Speaker 2: Right now.
- 24:58Speaker 3: Now he's been traded doing another team, He's only eligible
- 25:02Speaker 3: for a max of two hundred and twenty nine million.
- 25:04Speaker 3: But Dallas clearly, you know, if they had, if they
- 25:07Speaker 3: did have issues with his conditioning, you do worry about
- 25:11Speaker 3: giving three hundred and forty five million dollars to a
- 25:13Speaker 3: guy who's conditioning you have to worry about.
- 25:16Speaker 2: Yeah, so you know, I get that aspect of it.
- 25:20Speaker 3: But again, he took your team to the finals. I know,
- 25:24Speaker 3: like literally, not even nine months ago.
- 25:27Speaker 1: Not like he's thirty eight years old either, he's twenty five.
- 25:30Speaker 2: I know, he's twenty five.
- 25:32Speaker 1: Amazing, dude, this is crazy, It is crazy. But I
- 25:37Speaker 1: guess we should move on to the Sixers talk and again, you.
- 25:40Speaker 2: Know, and we should mention the Sixers out of trade too.
- 25:43Speaker 3: They have they have traded Caleb Martin, yes, you know,
- 25:46Speaker 3: to to Dallas, speaking of Dallas, for Quentin Grimes and
- 25:50Speaker 3: a second round pick.
- 25:51Speaker 2: So yeah, they actually, you.
- 25:54Speaker 3: Know, regardless of what happens with what they do, you know,
- 25:57Speaker 3: in the first round, they'll at least have a pick
- 25:59Speaker 3: this year or the draft.
- 26:00Speaker 1: They will have a pick, yes, in the second round.
- 26:02Speaker 2: Let's say trade that way.
- 26:03Speaker 1: Who knows, right, and they may actually we know Daryl
- 26:07Speaker 1: Morey loves trade, trading draft pies for sure, But look,
- 26:10Speaker 1: I mean this, this Sixers. The Sixers path at this point,
- 26:15Speaker 1: and especially before the trade deadline here as well, remains
- 26:19Speaker 1: very unclear. There are rumors that now the Golden State
- 26:24Speaker 1: Warriors and even the Atlanta Hawks have expressed interest in
- 26:27Speaker 1: trading for Paul George. But my gosh, I mean, this
- 26:31Speaker 1: team entered the season hoping to compete for an NBA championship,
- 26:34Speaker 1: but just a hellish year derailed by injuries and controversies. Here,
- 26:39Speaker 1: apparently Golden State has really been inquiring about Paul George.
- 26:43Speaker 1: Not really a surprise, lend, because the Warriors made a
- 26:46Speaker 1: push to land him last summer before he opted to
- 26:50Speaker 1: sign with the Sixers. I don't necessarily understand the Atlanta
- 26:53Speaker 1: angle with this and them having conversations about Paul George,
- 26:58Speaker 1: considering they already have a strong foresome of wings basically
- 27:01Speaker 1: with a healthy mix of talents. But I mean, to
- 27:05Speaker 1: get Paul George in that contract. Excuse me, He's on
- 27:09Speaker 1: a four year max deal worth well over two hundred
- 27:11Speaker 1: million dollars. To get that off the books and get
- 27:14Speaker 1: this team starting fresh, I mean, I it just sucks.
- 27:18Speaker 1: I mean, the year just sucks. And I don't know, honestly,
- 27:25Speaker 1: I don't know if I want them to do it
- 27:26Speaker 1: or not. It seems like it does make sense, you know,
- 27:30Speaker 1: to get that money off the books kind of look
- 27:33Speaker 1: anew giving giving given the fact that what Paul what
- 27:37Speaker 1: is he thirty four at this point? Yeah, you know,
- 27:39Speaker 1: and and we see how he's been playing this year.
- 27:42Speaker 1: I don't know, what are your thoughts about this potential
- 27:45Speaker 1: potential trade and do you think Daryl Morey should pull
- 27:47Speaker 1: the plug and do it.
- 27:49Speaker 3: I mean, I think with regard to Golden saying, I
- 27:51Speaker 3: think Paul George is the backup plan if they can't
- 27:55Speaker 3: get Durant or even if they want to talk to
- 27:57Speaker 3: the Lakers about Lebron. Yeah, I think those are the
- 28:00Speaker 3: first choices, and then if those kind of fall through,
- 28:03Speaker 3: then they'll then they'll look at Paul George. I mean,
- 28:07Speaker 3: it sucks to say it because you know, you want
- 28:10Speaker 3: your team to do well and you want your team
- 28:12Speaker 3: to be relevant and stuff like that. But with the
- 28:15Speaker 3: way things are going, and look, I know they had
- 28:18Speaker 3: to spend the money on somebody, they had to make
- 28:21Speaker 3: a big splash and free agency, but Paul George is
- 28:24Speaker 3: a guy with the track record in terms of playing
- 28:27Speaker 3: forty some games a year, fifty some games year. This
- 28:31Speaker 3: was always going to happen, especially the older he gets,
- 28:34Speaker 3: and they you've got mb'd who's on the wrong side
- 28:36Speaker 3: of thirty, and he is now a guy that like,
- 28:39Speaker 3: do you really believe he's going to play more than
- 28:41Speaker 3: half of a team's games in the season anymore? Do
- 28:44Speaker 3: you really have faith in any of that? So you
- 28:47Speaker 3: get to a point where you're like, you know, I
- 28:50Speaker 3: don't know. With those two guys, it's just like, are
- 28:54Speaker 3: are we really going to win a championship?
- 28:57Speaker 2: As construct?
- 28:58Speaker 1: How much longer should we keep dream about it? Like
- 29:01Speaker 1: at the end of the day, Yeah.
- 29:02Speaker 3: Yeah, Should it come to a point where it's like, Okay,
- 29:06Speaker 3: it's not going to happen. We have to focus on
- 29:10Speaker 3: getting lucky in the lottery here and getting a top
- 29:14Speaker 3: six pick and hopefully getting you know, the high pick,
- 29:19Speaker 3: hopefully getting you know, a Cooper Flag or a Dylan
- 29:22Speaker 3: Harper or somebody like that. Like honestly, and I know,
- 29:25Speaker 3: no no Sixers fan is going to want to hear that,
- 29:28Speaker 3: because you don't want to go back into the whole
- 29:31Speaker 3: tank thing, But like, Okay, we tried, it didn't work.
- 29:36Speaker 2: It's not going to happen. With embid. It's just not
- 29:39Speaker 2: I'm sorry.
- 29:40Speaker 3: Yeah, I just I mean, I'm I'm I've been at
- 29:44Speaker 3: that point since probably the back end.
- 29:47Speaker 2: Of last season, been there for a while now.
- 29:50Speaker 3: Once they lost in the playoffs, I was like, okay,
- 29:53Speaker 3: and then then he played in the Olympics, and then
- 29:55Speaker 3: he wasn't healthy to start the season. It's like, Okay,
- 29:59Speaker 3: this is what it's to be. Because he's now thirty.
- 30:01Speaker 3: He's not gonna find the fountain of youth and the
- 30:04Speaker 3: fountain of health all of a sudden, right, It's not
- 30:07Speaker 3: going to happen.
- 30:09Speaker 1: All right. Well, that is a good place for us
- 30:12Speaker 1: to uh end this first part of the show before
- 30:14Speaker 1: we go to break. But if you are listening to
- 30:16Speaker 1: the PSD podcast show here for the first time, subscribing
- 30:19Speaker 1: whatever podcast platform you're on, you can also head on
- 30:21Speaker 1: over to Philadelphia Sports Table dot com. We've got all
- 30:24Speaker 1: of our shows over there. You can follow us on
- 30:27Speaker 1: social media. We're on threads, we are over on We're
- 30:31Speaker 1: still on the Twitter slash x. At least a show
- 30:34Speaker 1: is myself and Eric Lenna has taken a break from
- 30:36Speaker 1: social media. Bless your soul, my friend, has it been.
- 30:40Speaker 2: It's honestly like I.
- 30:44Speaker 3: Want to say, like I'm a lot less depressed because
- 30:47Speaker 3: I was on Twitter and stuff like that. It just
- 30:50Speaker 3: you go online and it's just depressing.
- 30:53Speaker 1: It's a horrible platform.
- 30:54Speaker 2: After after a.
- 30:55Speaker 3: While, I mean, and you know you can do that
- 30:58Speaker 3: anywhare it. You can turn on the news and get depressed.
- 31:01Speaker 3: It's just so you know, you really just have to
- 31:06Speaker 3: take care of yourself and do what you can to
- 31:09Speaker 3: you know, not be that way. And getting off of
- 31:12Speaker 3: social media for a little bit has been kind of
- 31:14Speaker 3: that for me.
- 31:15Speaker 2: Nice.
- 31:15Speaker 1: All right, Well, I'm glad it's working for you folks
- 31:18Speaker 1: out there. I'm serious. I've actually been doing another podcast
- 31:22Speaker 1: with someone here in our Lehigh Valley region of Pennsylvania,
- 31:27Speaker 1: and we've been talking about mental health, believe it or not,
- 31:29Speaker 1: on this podcast, and it's been great. It's been cathartic,
- 31:32Speaker 1: been wonderful, and man, you gotta do it. You gotta
- 31:36Speaker 1: take a break from social media to get some mental
- 31:38Speaker 1: health help at times. So take Len's lead, folks. All Right,
- 31:41Speaker 1: We're gonna take a quick break to pay some bills.
- 31:44Speaker 1: We'll be back in just a bit with a ton
- 31:45Speaker 1: of Eagles talk. Stick with us, all right, we are
- 31:49Speaker 1: back here with my buddy Len, and now we're gonna
- 31:52Speaker 1: be getting into this Philadelphia Eagles team as they are
- 31:55Speaker 1: now down in New Orleans. They're heading, of course, to
- 31:58Speaker 1: the Super Bowl. Is our confidence level in the Eagles
- 32:02Speaker 1: beating the Chiefs this Sunday? Lenn and I are gonna
- 32:05Speaker 1: give some thoughts here. Now we've got our good friend
- 32:07Speaker 1: of the show, Brandon Lee GOUTENBLG from Bleedinggreen Nation dot com.
- 32:11Speaker 1: He's gonna be joining us in just a bit to
- 32:13Speaker 1: dive into some more storylines heading into this Super Bowl.
- 32:17Speaker 1: I gotta say, Len, I was talking to I was
- 32:21Speaker 1: mentioned my daughter's you know, karate training earlier, and I
- 32:26Speaker 1: was talking with a gentleman there who I know who's
- 32:28Speaker 1: a big Eagles fan. And he's like, oh, bright, because
- 32:31Speaker 1: I'm really thinking it's gonna be a double digit win.
- 32:33Speaker 1: And I'm like, oh, please stop, I go, please stop.
- 32:37Speaker 1: The amount of positive vibes out there surrounding the Super
- 32:41Speaker 1: Bowl prior to playing it, it's got me like so
- 32:45Speaker 1: worked up. I'm serious, like it has me worked up.
- 32:47Speaker 1: I don't I'm like the rugg is gonna get pulled
- 32:50Speaker 1: out from under us. You know, we remember Jalen Hurts
- 32:52Speaker 1: and that fumble, you know, fumble six before the half
- 32:58Speaker 1: in the in the other Super Bowl that they play
- 33:00Speaker 1: against the Chiefs. You know, remember the rug getting pulled
- 33:03Speaker 1: out from under us time and time again. As Eagles fans. However,
- 33:08Speaker 1: I'm feeling good, I really am, and I'm trying to
- 33:11Speaker 1: block out the good feelings at times because you look
- 33:15Speaker 1: at everything. I mean, I think the Eagles from a
- 33:18Speaker 1: defensive standpoint, are gonna win the pass rush game. I
- 33:21Speaker 1: think they're going to create timely turnovers. I think Saquon
- 33:25Speaker 1: Barkley is going to play like he has been playing
- 33:28Speaker 1: throughout this season. Because this offensive line, if healthy, God willing,
- 33:34Speaker 1: they are just the most dominant force in the NFL.
- 33:38Speaker 1: There are so many when you look at when you
- 33:41Speaker 1: look at the analysis of what these two teams are
- 33:45Speaker 1: and what they've been throughout this season. Everything heading to
- 33:48Speaker 1: a point with this game, I think this Philadelphia Eagles
- 33:52Speaker 1: team should win. The number one defense they have. You know,
- 33:58Speaker 1: they a lot of these players or on the previous
- 34:02Speaker 1: Super Bowl team against the Chiefs, they have more experience.
- 34:07Speaker 1: And again I'm gonna go back to sa Kuon Barkley.
- 34:11Speaker 1: He is going to be so key in this game. Buddy,
- 34:16Speaker 1: I'm just like I needed to get here. I need
- 34:19Speaker 1: this game to get here. Where are you at?
- 34:23Speaker 2: Yeah? I'm kind of there as well.
- 34:25Speaker 3: And that's the thing, like I you know, there's the
- 34:29Speaker 3: part of you as a Philadelphia fan it's like, Okay.
- 34:32Speaker 2: How's it going to happen? How are these guys going
- 34:34Speaker 2: to lose this game?
- 34:35Speaker 3: But like you, when you look at this team, like
- 34:39Speaker 3: I feel like most teams that you follow, you know,
- 34:42Speaker 3: you can be like, oh they're bullpen stinks, or oh
- 34:45Speaker 3: they're secondary stinks, or we are goalie stinks, or but
- 34:50Speaker 3: when you go position group by position group on this team,
- 34:55Speaker 3: they they're solid all the way.
- 34:57Speaker 2: This is a really good team.
- 35:01Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean they and look, you have to be
- 35:04Speaker 3: to get to a super Bowl. But you know, there
- 35:06Speaker 3: have been super teams that have made a super Bowl
- 35:07Speaker 3: and it's like, oh, you can exploit their their past
- 35:10Speaker 3: rush or you know, you know, things of that nature.
- 35:13Speaker 3: But there's no soft underbelly to this Eagles team. They
- 35:18Speaker 3: are a damn good, well constructed football team. So that
- 35:24Speaker 3: that is what I'm kind of as an Eagles fan.
- 35:26Speaker 3: That's what I'm hanging my hat on. And look, the
- 35:28Speaker 3: Chiefs are great to to my knowledge, I think I've
- 35:31Speaker 3: heard a stat that they have not given up one
- 35:35Speaker 3: hundred yard rusher this year.
- 35:37Speaker 2: I don't know. You you would probably know better than
- 35:39Speaker 2: I would about that they have not.
- 35:42Speaker 3: So that'll that right, there is a storyline for forget
- 35:45Speaker 3: about even the result. Ken Saquan, you know, finally hanging
- 35:49Speaker 3: one hundred yards on on on the Chiefs. Yeah, you know,
- 35:51Speaker 3: can he be the one to do that? So that'll
- 35:55Speaker 3: be a fun thing to look at there. But you know,
- 35:58Speaker 3: the Chiefs are good too. They're not just you know,
- 36:01Speaker 3: a good quarterback and smoking mirrors. I mean, they're they're
- 36:04Speaker 3: well rounded all the way around too, So I mean
- 36:06Speaker 3: it'll be a good game. But I mean, I don't
- 36:10Speaker 3: know when they when they beat the Patriots, it's like,
- 36:13Speaker 3: oh my god, they've got a backup quarterback. They're going
- 36:17Speaker 3: up against Tom Brady. I never in a million years
- 36:22Speaker 3: thought they were going to win that game. That's not
- 36:25Speaker 3: the case here. They're not some underdog that has no
- 36:29Speaker 3: shot in hell of winning. They're a good So. I mean,
- 36:33Speaker 3: as an Eagles fan, that is what I'm hanging my
- 36:35Speaker 3: hat on here. I mean, you, as an Eagles fan,
- 36:39Speaker 3: have a legitimate right to be disappointed if they don't
- 36:41Speaker 3: pull this off.
- 36:42Speaker 2: Because they're that good.
- 36:45Speaker 3: We can we can all put on the Reynolds wrap
- 36:47Speaker 3: and you know, put on the tinfoil hats and talk
- 36:50Speaker 3: about the refs. And I don't want to do that.
- 36:52Speaker 3: I mean that because I don't know. I don't want
- 36:56Speaker 3: to be that guy. But but there is you know,
- 36:58Speaker 3: not just for an Eagles fans point, but across the
- 37:01Speaker 3: NFL there's now a couple of year track record of
- 37:05Speaker 3: this with the Chiefs. So I mean that there's there's
- 37:08Speaker 3: that aspect of it where I'm like, ye oh god,
- 37:11Speaker 3: how are they.
- 37:11Speaker 2: Going to do it to us? How is the NFL
- 37:13Speaker 2: going to do it to us?
- 37:14Speaker 3: But I and I'm I'm fighting so hard to not
- 37:18Speaker 3: be that person, and I am failing to an extent.
- 37:21Speaker 2: But I don't want to be that person.
- 37:23Speaker 1: Because we remember the fourth quarter in the Super Bowl
- 37:25Speaker 1: two years Yes, yes we remember that, and it's like.
- 37:31Speaker 3: But that's but but I feel like every team that
- 37:33Speaker 3: has played the Chiefs in a big game, like you
- 37:36Speaker 3: could get an Eagles fan and a Bills fan and
- 37:39Speaker 3: a Ravens fan and sit around a table and you
- 37:42Speaker 3: could talk about your your shitty calls against the.
- 37:44Speaker 2: Chief absolutely happen, you know, it's just there.
- 37:49Speaker 3: Like, like I said, there's enough of a track record now,
- 37:51Speaker 3: so I don't want to be that person, but there
- 37:54Speaker 3: is a small part of me it's like, how's it
- 37:56Speaker 3: going to happen?
- 37:58Speaker 2: So I don't know.
- 37:59Speaker 1: I think if Saquon Barkley is over one hundred yards rushing,
- 38:04Speaker 1: you know, I mean, look the Baltimore Ravens defense they
- 38:07Speaker 1: allowed a league best three point six yards per carry
- 38:10Speaker 1: this season, and then Eagles play the Ravens in Week
- 38:13Speaker 1: thirteen they beat him twenty four to nineteen. Barkley ran
- 38:17Speaker 1: twenty three times for one hundred and seven yards and
- 38:19Speaker 1: a touchdown. You know, you also have the Steelers. They
- 38:23Speaker 1: gave up just four point one yards per carry, and
- 38:26Speaker 1: while Saquon Barkley was held to just sixty five yards
- 38:30Speaker 1: on nineteen attempts. It was also a game which the
- 38:32Speaker 1: offense primarily focused on throwing the football with a lot
- 38:37Speaker 1: of success. So it's not just Barkley, it's also the
- 38:40Speaker 1: other weapons too, And I think.
- 38:41Speaker 3: That's it was something I wanted to ask you, is like,
- 38:44Speaker 3: how do you think it's gonna go dead? Like do
- 38:47Speaker 3: you think the Chiefs sell out to stop Saquon at
- 38:50Speaker 3: the beginning of the game.
- 38:51Speaker 1: What what I think is interesting is that Steve Spagnolo
- 38:55Speaker 1: is known for dime defenses, and folks, if you don't
- 38:58Speaker 1: know what a dime defense, it's the alignment that utilizes
- 39:01Speaker 1: six defensive backs on the field. And if you have
- 39:04Speaker 1: Saquon Barkley out there and you've got six defensive backs
- 39:07Speaker 1: on the field, that is very good for Saquon Barkley.
- 39:10Speaker 2: Yeah, okay, so that's gonna be a problem.
- 39:12Speaker 1: Exactly that being said, I think I think there is
- 39:16Speaker 1: going to be a balance because we've seen that with
- 39:18Speaker 1: this team. The Eagles identity on offense, of course is
- 39:21Speaker 1: the rushing attack, but there has been throughout this year
- 39:25Speaker 1: a balance during the first half. If they are able
- 39:28Speaker 1: to go up at halftime, I think we see Saquon
- 39:32Speaker 1: Barkley just running the hell out of the ball during
- 39:34Speaker 1: the second half. But I think we are going to
- 39:36Speaker 1: see aj Brown, DeVante Smith, and Dallas Goddard playing a
- 39:40Speaker 1: role too. I mean, are they all gonna have sixty
- 39:43Speaker 1: to ninety yards each, you know, in the first half
- 39:46Speaker 1: or even throughout the entire game. Probably not, but they're
- 39:50Speaker 1: gonna They're gonna be key on a lot of third
- 39:52Speaker 1: downs because we know this Chiefs defense. I mean, they
- 39:56Speaker 1: hold teams to third and long a decent amount. So
- 39:58Speaker 1: I think that the pass game is going to be critical.
- 40:01Speaker 1: But the most critical thing on this offense, even more
- 40:05Speaker 1: than Saquon Barkley Lehen is no turnovers by Jalen Hurts.
- 40:10Speaker 1: No turnovers. He has not been turning the ball over.
- 40:13Speaker 1: If that remains consistent, I truly believe the Eagles are
- 40:17Speaker 1: going to win. That is the X factor here. If
- 40:20Speaker 1: he throws an interception, if there's another fumble for a
- 40:24Speaker 1: touchdown like there was in the previous Super Bowl, then
- 40:27Speaker 1: the Eagles earned big trouble. If there's a turn at
- 40:29Speaker 1: least one turnover, I think the Eagles earned big trouble.
- 40:31Speaker 1: The X factor is Jalen Hurts. He's got to keep
- 40:33Speaker 1: He's got to keep hold of the ball and not
- 40:36Speaker 1: give it up.
- 40:36Speaker 3: It is It is funny because you've you've mentioned it
- 40:39Speaker 3: twice now, and it was a gigantic play and it
- 40:42Speaker 3: led to and it was a scoring play for the Chiefs,
- 40:44Speaker 3: so it obviously hurt the Eagles. But outside of that play,
- 40:48Speaker 3: it was the best game I've ever seen him play
- 40:50Speaker 3: as an eagle, absolutely to the point where Mahomes actually
- 40:53Speaker 3: after the Super Bowl said in a press conference, I
- 40:56Speaker 3: don't want it to get lost. How good Jalen hurt
- 40:59Speaker 3: is what in this game? So, I mean, it's there
- 41:03Speaker 3: within him, and I do I do think that maybe
- 41:05Speaker 3: to an extent at the very beginning, at least, I
- 41:09Speaker 3: think the Chiefs are gonna at least say, all right, Jaalen,
- 41:14Speaker 3: let's see if you can do it again, yep, because
- 41:16Speaker 3: we're gonna take Saquan away at least in the very
- 41:18Speaker 3: beginning until you can show us that you can open
- 41:22Speaker 3: it up a little bit and spread us out, and
- 41:24Speaker 3: you know, whatever's gonna happen is gonna happen. But I mean, again,
- 41:29Speaker 3: this is an extremely well rounded team. You don't have
- 41:33Speaker 3: good receivers. You have two great wide receivers in Brown
- 41:39Speaker 3: and DeVante Smith, and you've got a good tight end
- 41:42Speaker 3: in you know, in Goddard. I mean, there's there's weapons
- 41:46Speaker 3: galore here. So it's there for the taking. I mean,
- 41:51Speaker 3: and you are right about Hurts. He has to play
- 41:53Speaker 3: a good game. He has to play a mistake free game,
- 41:56Speaker 3: you know, not take you know, throw the if it's
- 41:58Speaker 3: not there. Please, for the love of God, throw the
- 42:01Speaker 3: ball away. I can already feel myself yelling this at
- 42:04Speaker 3: the TV. Yes, at least ten times over the course
- 42:07Speaker 3: of this game. I'm gonna do it.
- 42:10Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 42:10Speaker 1: There's a reason why I mentioned that turnover, that fumble
- 42:15Speaker 1: for the touchdown. There's a reason I mentioned that len
- 42:18Speaker 1: and happening before the half in the previous Super Bowl
- 42:20Speaker 1: is because the score it would have been if he
- 42:23Speaker 1: didn't do that, If he did not fumble the ball
- 42:26Speaker 1: and they wouldn't have picked it up and run it
- 42:28Speaker 1: in for the score, it would have been twenty four
- 42:30Speaker 1: to seven at the half. What does that do to
- 42:33Speaker 1: the other team's psyche? But because of that, it was
- 42:36Speaker 1: twenty four to fourteen, much more manageable, so.
- 42:41Speaker 2: Much more manageable.
- 42:42Speaker 3: And that leads to another aspect of the game that
- 42:45Speaker 3: we need to talk about here, and that is Eagles defense.
- 42:48Speaker 3: Because if you remember that second half, they marched down
- 42:52Speaker 3: the field and scored on the Eagles every single possession
- 42:57Speaker 3: in that second half in that last Super Bowl. So
- 43:00Speaker 3: what can the Eagles do to prevent that from happening again?
- 43:04Speaker 3: Because it was, like you know, I was one stop.
- 43:09Speaker 3: Can we please get one friggin' stop in the second
- 43:13Speaker 3: half that Super Bowl, and I don't want to repeat that.
- 43:16Speaker 3: So what can the Eagles do to prevent that from happening?
- 43:19Speaker 1: I think, I think, and it's something we have seen
- 43:22Speaker 1: from this Eagles team, especially down the stretch, is they
- 43:25Speaker 1: create timely turnovers. And we see it in every Super
- 43:29Speaker 1: Bowl too. Every Super Bowl that is played, there's a
- 43:31Speaker 1: muff snap, a fumble on a kick return, the opposing
- 43:34Speaker 1: team recovers the ball changes the entire momentum of the game.
- 43:39Speaker 1: The Eagles have been the best of the NFL at
- 43:41Speaker 1: punching the ball out. We've seen Zach Bond doing this
- 43:44Speaker 1: a number of times this year. CJ. Gardner Johnson has
- 43:48Speaker 1: been on his game. Darius Slay has upped his game
- 43:51Speaker 1: as well. Again, like whether it's you know, whether read
- 43:57Speaker 1: blanken ship being again at the right place at the
- 43:59Speaker 1: right time and knowing where the ball is going to go,
- 44:02Speaker 1: the Eagles creating timely turnovers, whether it's interceptions again, punching
- 44:06Speaker 1: the ball out, getting a fumble recovery, I think that's
- 44:09Speaker 1: going to be another key to this as well.
- 44:11Speaker 2: Yeah, no, I totally agree.
- 44:14Speaker 3: It's going to have to be a thing along the
- 44:17Speaker 3: lines of the of the Washington game here in the
- 44:20Speaker 3: NFC championship team where you're getting these things at the
- 44:23Speaker 3: right time, and maybe it is punching the ball out
- 44:25Speaker 3: because I mean, I just I don't like Mahomes at all.
- 44:30Speaker 3: But you know, he's not going to really make those mistakes.
- 44:34Speaker 3: He's not going to give you a lot, right, so
- 44:37Speaker 3: I feel like, yeah, it'll have to be like a
- 44:39Speaker 3: fumble or something. And look, the Eagles secondary is much
- 44:42Speaker 3: improved over the last year. You know, I'll be curious
- 44:46Speaker 3: to see, like, you know, that's another matchup Mahomes versus
- 44:50Speaker 3: a young Eagle secondary. Does he try to go after
- 44:54Speaker 3: Mitchell and Dejeene, who have been great you know, all
- 44:56Speaker 3: year long, but now you're on the biggest stage imaginable
- 45:01Speaker 3: and what happens there?
- 45:02Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly. Oh man, I'm just the nerves, the nerves.
- 45:08Speaker 2: Are yeah, yeah, I know, I know. I'm there with you.
- 45:13Speaker 1: Well, buddy, I will unless you got something else, I'll
- 45:17Speaker 1: let you go before we get to our interview discussion
- 45:19Speaker 1: with BLG.
- 45:20Speaker 3: No, I'll be interested to hear that when it comes out,
- 45:25Speaker 3: because I'll be interested to see what Brandon has to
- 45:27Speaker 3: say about all that, yep, But yeah, I just yeah,
- 45:31Speaker 3: I'm nervous.
- 45:32Speaker 2: We'll see what happens here.
- 45:34Speaker 1: All right, buddy, I will let you go, folks. We
- 45:36Speaker 1: are going to take a quick break and we will
- 45:38Speaker 1: be back in just a bit. All right, we are back.
- 45:42Speaker 1: We're gonna get into more Eagles talk right now. Have
- 45:46Speaker 1: a fantastic guest. He has been coming on for well
- 45:49Speaker 1: over like ten years at this point, one of our favorites.
- 45:52Speaker 1: It's what we're thrown down on the table, and now
- 45:55Speaker 1: on the table joining us for our Super Bowl preview
- 46:01Speaker 1: from Bleedinggreen Nation dot com. He's been over there for years, folks,
- 46:05Speaker 1: years and years, continuing to put out great content, great articles.
- 46:10Speaker 1: They got a great staff over there, a great team,
- 46:12Speaker 1: and again he's been coming on this podcast for years
- 46:15Speaker 1: and years. We've got the one and only Brandon Lee
- 46:18Speaker 1: Gout and BLG. How you doing, Buddy?
- 46:20Speaker 2: Doing good?
- 46:20Speaker 4: Jeff. I don't think I would have believed it if
- 46:23Speaker 4: you told me that, Yeah, twelve years ago, i'd still
- 46:27Speaker 4: be appleating your niece. And also legals would be playing
- 46:29Speaker 4: in three Super Bowls within that Spain, and so here
- 46:32Speaker 4: we are exactly.
- 46:33Speaker 1: Winning one of them, and we're hoping that we got
- 46:35Speaker 1: a second one on the way for sure, so I
- 46:40Speaker 1: really wanted to like just dive into like what this
- 46:42Speaker 1: season has really meant and from a perspective of you know,
- 46:47Speaker 1: the tea, if the team didn't have this, they wouldn't
- 46:49Speaker 1: be here blg Because like with this super Bowl just
- 46:52Speaker 1: days away, you know, I've been doing a lot of
- 46:55Speaker 1: reflecting on this season. Eagles fans have also been doing
- 46:57Speaker 1: a lot of reflecting as well, So I'm wondering, what
- 47:00Speaker 1: are a couple aspects of this team where we would
- 47:03Speaker 1: be able to look back and say, you know, if
- 47:04Speaker 1: the team didn't have this, they wouldn't be here. Of course,
- 47:07Speaker 1: Saquon Barkley's at the top of that list, and what
- 47:10Speaker 1: he's done for this offense definitely, you know it ranks
- 47:13Speaker 1: towards the top for sure. But what are some of
- 47:16Speaker 1: the other aspects of this team that you've really been
- 47:19Speaker 1: thinking about lately that if they didn't have this particular thing,
- 47:23Speaker 1: they wouldn't be here. What are your thoughts?
- 47:25Speaker 4: Yeah, it's pretty crazy how good the defense has been.
- 47:28Speaker 4: And going back to the offseason, it was like, okay,
- 47:31Speaker 4: don't even the expectation was like, okay, just let the
- 47:33Speaker 4: defense be competent offense can do the heavy lifting for
- 47:36Speaker 4: this team. Bring in Vic Fangio so you don't have
- 47:39Speaker 4: a total disaster of a defense like he did down
- 47:41Speaker 4: the stretch last year with that Patricia being the coordinat.
- 47:44Speaker 4: I mean, think about that. Think about how far deals
- 47:46Speaker 4: have come where they have incredible Patricia, yes as their
- 47:49Speaker 4: panic moved defensive coordinator, replacing Sean Desai last year, and
- 47:53Speaker 4: now they have Vic freakin' Fangio, like one of the
- 47:55Speaker 4: most respected defensive minds in the NFL. It's crazy to
- 48:00Speaker 4: think about how far they've come. But it's not even
- 48:03Speaker 4: just Vic, you know, it's everything that goes into this defense,
- 48:06Speaker 4: which is incredibly fundamentally sound and everything, but the talent too.
- 48:11Speaker 4: I mean, you know, for Zach Bond to become the
- 48:12Speaker 4: player that he has, Yeah, for Nolan Smith to develop
- 48:16Speaker 4: yet Chauncey Garner Johnson back in here. You have an
- 48:18Speaker 4: underrated player like Reid Blank and Ship solidly, you know,
- 48:21Speaker 4: just being a solid kind of contributor for you yea.
- 48:23Speaker 4: I mean you go up and down the Jon Harder
- 48:25Speaker 4: developing into an absolute superstar All Pro in his second season.
- 48:30Speaker 4: It's really just a special unit and unexpected and I think,
- 48:33Speaker 4: you know, that's really going to be the hallmark of
- 48:37Speaker 4: this twenty twenty four Eagles team is as like you said,
- 48:40Speaker 4: Saquon Barkley, but also just just this defense and how
- 48:43Speaker 4: good that they've been has really just allowed them to
- 48:46Speaker 4: play that the way they have played most of the season.
- 48:49Speaker 1: Absolutely. I also think we have to, of course give
- 48:52Speaker 1: credit and We've talked about it on this podcast platform
- 48:55Speaker 1: a number of times, the growth of Nick Sirianni. I
- 48:58Speaker 1: really think that's part of this and you see stuff
- 49:01Speaker 1: behind the scenes a lot more than I do. As
- 49:03Speaker 1: you were down at the link, you know, you're there
- 49:05Speaker 1: for pressers, But it does seem to appear that he
- 49:09Speaker 1: has had some sort of growth process during the course
- 49:11Speaker 1: of this year. Are we right saying that on this
- 49:14Speaker 1: podcast platform consistently? Is that what you have seen? BLG?
- 49:18Speaker 4: I would say, you know, look, he was in a
- 49:21Speaker 4: really interesting spot, as we talked about all off season,
- 49:23Speaker 4: coming off of that epic collapse last year, and you know,
- 49:27Speaker 4: I've been critical of him, and I think part of
- 49:29Speaker 4: it was just like the biggest thing I struggled with
- 49:32Speaker 4: when it came to evaluating Nick Sirianni, He's like, what
- 49:35Speaker 4: does he really contribute to this team. And I still think,
- 49:37Speaker 4: you know, you know, the talent is the biggest driver
- 49:41Speaker 4: of the Eagle success, Like there's you know Howie Roseman
- 49:44Speaker 4: deserves so much credit for how this roster has been built,
- 49:48Speaker 4: But you know, I think it's not just the talent.
- 49:51Speaker 4: It's also and one of the biggest issues I had
- 49:54Speaker 4: with Nick Sirianni last year and one of the biggest
- 49:56Speaker 4: things I have given him credit for in the past,
- 49:58Speaker 4: is like the culture, the vibes. Yeah, yeah, you know,
- 50:01Speaker 4: that only goes so far too because the players set
- 50:03Speaker 4: a lot of that, but certainly he plays a role
- 50:05Speaker 4: in that process. And one of his core values that
- 50:09Speaker 4: he likes to talk about is, you know, connection, And yeah,
- 50:12Speaker 4: a lot of these players seem to like each other
- 50:14Speaker 4: and that's really good. And now part of that goes
- 50:16Speaker 4: hand in hand with winning, but it's not always necessarily guaranteed.
- 50:19Speaker 4: Because we saw that last year where we're winning a lot,
- 50:21Speaker 4: it certainly didn't feel great. So I do think the
- 50:25Speaker 4: way that he's been able to get this team to
- 50:27Speaker 4: kind of come together and gail and play for each other,
- 50:31Speaker 4: he certainly deserves credit for that part of it. But
- 50:33Speaker 4: also I will say too. The most encouraging thing I
- 50:36Speaker 4: think I've seen from Nick Sirianni the season game, in
- 50:38Speaker 4: the NFC Championship game when he was really willing to
- 50:40Speaker 4: be aggressive for it in that fourth and five spot,
- 50:43Speaker 4: and he saw how much that was like a turning
- 50:45Speaker 4: point in that game. And if these are going to
- 50:47Speaker 4: win a super Bowl, it's probably going to be have
- 50:49Speaker 4: to be because he continues to keep the pedal to
- 50:52Speaker 4: the floor and continue to be aggressive. So and that
- 50:56Speaker 4: is growth because the last Super Bowl he wasn't aggressive
- 50:58Speaker 4: enough the way I saw it, so well, I do
- 51:00Speaker 4: think there is progress from him.
- 51:02Speaker 1: I think that's a great points, great points for sure, BLG.
- 51:05Speaker 1: And I also think, you know, it's interesting talking about
- 51:07Speaker 1: various strengths with this team. You talked about Howie Roseman
- 51:11Speaker 1: as well. But I wonder how much credit we should
- 51:15Speaker 1: actually be giving to a certain guy. And I hate
- 51:18Speaker 1: giving credit to owners, you know, with regard to anything
- 51:22Speaker 1: in sports, quite frankly, but I do wonder how much
- 51:24Speaker 1: credit we should be giving to Jeffrey Lurie. And I
- 51:26Speaker 1: say that because he doesn't appear to be the same
- 51:29Speaker 1: type of guy perhaps that you know is meddling in
- 51:31Speaker 1: the draft and maybe insisting on drafting talent like jj
- 51:34Speaker 1: Arthega Whiteside, who you know, we all remember that storyline.
- 51:38Speaker 1: Jeffrey Luriy has also apparently gone perhaps through some transformations
- 51:42Speaker 1: as well over the years. And and I say this
- 51:44Speaker 1: because he certainly know Jerry Jones. You know, as a
- 51:46Speaker 1: lot of these owners get older in life, gets a
- 51:49Speaker 1: little more bizarre in terms of decision making, in terms
- 51:53Speaker 1: of direction, their communication style where they want the organization
- 51:56Speaker 1: to go. I'm wondering what your thoughts are on Jeffrey Luriy,
- 52:00Speaker 1: his ownership of the team and the direction that he
- 52:03Speaker 1: has helped give that have led the Eagles to this
- 52:06Speaker 1: moment where they're going to be competing in the Super Bowl.
- 52:09Speaker 4: Yeah. I think you know, the patience that Jeffrey Larry
- 52:12Speaker 4: has had with Howie Roseman is obviously really key. And
- 52:15Speaker 4: you know, I say that as someone who's been critical
- 52:16Speaker 4: of Howie Rosemand in the past. Yeah, and I would
- 52:18Speaker 4: say he's earned how he earned that criticism with how
- 52:21Speaker 4: the Eagles really kind of went in the tailspin for
- 52:23Speaker 4: a bit there after winning the Super Bowl. I think
- 52:25Speaker 4: he made a lot of not so great personnel moves.
- 52:29Speaker 4: But you know, since Doug Peterson has been gone, Nick
- 52:32Speaker 4: Sirianni has been here. How he's pretty much been acing
- 52:34Speaker 4: things for the most part. Yeah, and that wouldn't have happened,
- 52:37Speaker 4: you know, if Jeffrey Larry didn't have the patience and
- 52:40Speaker 4: faith in Howie Roseman. A lot of the success that
- 52:43Speaker 4: how He is able to have is a testament to
- 52:46Speaker 4: the patience that Lurry has, because you know, a lot
- 52:49Speaker 4: of gms are worrying about their job security and making
- 52:52Speaker 4: moves or that are about self preservation as opposed to
- 52:55Speaker 4: the actual long term benefit of the team.
- 52:58Speaker 2: Right.
- 52:58Speaker 4: And therefore, you know, I'll give Lurry credit for empowering
- 53:03Speaker 4: Roseman in that way. I think that's the you know,
- 53:05Speaker 4: a dynamic that really works well together. I also say
- 53:08Speaker 4: that I think we traditionally think of like a good
- 53:11Speaker 4: owner in sports generally as someone who gets out of
- 53:14Speaker 4: the way, you know, and lets all the key people
- 53:17Speaker 4: do their jobs. And I do think Jeffrey Larry does that,
- 53:19Speaker 4: but I don't. I don't think it's just that simple.
- 53:21Speaker 4: I think you also, you don't want an owner who's disengaged.
- 53:24Speaker 4: You want an owner who cares right, is there and
- 53:26Speaker 4: is involved and it understands what's going on. You don't
- 53:28Speaker 4: want absentee owner right, kind of like maybe what Joss
- 53:31Speaker 4: Harris has been at the six years here since let's
- 53:34Speaker 4: get into that exactly. But you know, I think Larry
- 53:38Speaker 4: cares and I think that is important and obviously his
- 53:41Speaker 4: voice should be involved at a certain times, especially with
- 53:43Speaker 4: the big picture things. So yeah, I do think Jeffrey
- 53:46Speaker 4: Larry deserves a lot of credit for this too, and
- 53:49Speaker 4: also just like the next here on any part of it,
- 53:52Speaker 4: because there's patients there, you know, like he could have
- 53:55Speaker 4: fired it very well, and I think they give based
- 53:57Speaker 4: on how you know, they didn't really to come out
- 54:00Speaker 4: with a vote confidence for him right away after the
- 54:02Speaker 4: twenty twenty three season, it did seem like, you know,
- 54:04Speaker 4: they gave weight to that. There was talk about back
- 54:06Speaker 4: channeling Bill Belichick and whatnot. So you know, I also
- 54:10Speaker 4: think his patients there with not only Howie but Sirianni
- 54:14Speaker 4: as well as paying off.
- 54:15Speaker 1: Yeah, I do as well. So as we're moving along
- 54:18Speaker 1: here with the conversation, BLG, let's get into what we
- 54:20Speaker 1: might expect from this Super Bowl, this game in terms
- 54:24Speaker 1: of the matchups here First and foremost want to start
- 54:27Speaker 1: off with this Eagles offensive line. They have just been
- 54:30Speaker 1: dominant as we know. I mean, last week on the show,
- 54:32Speaker 1: we talked about Cam Jurgens and his resiliency coming into
- 54:36Speaker 1: a game when his back was injured. He did not
- 54:38Speaker 1: start the game, but he needed to finish the game.
- 54:41Speaker 1: For this offensive line and the Eagles offense, two new positions,
- 54:45Speaker 1: have two new players this season, with Makai Beckton starting
- 54:49Speaker 1: at right guard for most of the year and also
- 54:51Speaker 1: Cam Jurgens taken over for Jason Kelsey very seamlessly in
- 54:55Speaker 1: a lot of ways. I just I can't see the
- 54:58Speaker 1: Chiefs defense really new realizing the Eagles offensive line. So
- 55:03Speaker 1: I wanted to get your thoughts on this particular matchup
- 55:06Speaker 1: here and what we should be looking at as far
- 55:09Speaker 1: as the Chiefs and how they're likely probably going to
- 55:11Speaker 1: be blitzing the heck out of Jalen Hurts trying to
- 55:13Speaker 1: disrupt this offense. How do you see this offensive line
- 55:16Speaker 1: really handling itself during the course of this game against
- 55:20Speaker 1: the a Chiefs defensive front that is not terrible by
- 55:23Speaker 1: any stretch.
- 55:24Speaker 4: I like how you frame it there in terms of
- 55:26Speaker 4: like not neutralizing the Eagles offensive line, as if the
- 55:29Speaker 4: Eagles offensive line is a weapon because it is it is.
- 55:31Speaker 4: It's absolutely you know, goes hand in hand with the
- 55:34Speaker 4: running game, and you know, Saquon is awesome, but you
- 55:36Speaker 4: know he's not able to have the level of success
- 55:38Speaker 4: he's had this season. Certainly we saw that be the
- 55:40Speaker 4: case in New York if he doesn't have this offensive
- 55:43Speaker 4: line to run behind. So I certainly think the Eagles
- 55:47Speaker 4: offensive line is going to be a huge factor, you know,
- 55:50Speaker 4: if they win this game or not. And really interested
- 55:52Speaker 4: to see just how healthy Cam Jurgens is. You know,
- 55:56Speaker 4: a back injury is no joke. And obviously Landon Dickerson too.
- 55:59Speaker 4: They're going to play.
- 56:00Speaker 2: You know, they weren't.
- 56:00Speaker 4: They weren't listed on the injury report that came out
- 56:03Speaker 4: last week in terms of being questionable or anything. But
- 56:06Speaker 4: you know, it's just a matter of how close to
- 56:08Speaker 4: one hundred percent are they going to be, do they
- 56:10Speaker 4: have to are they able to finish the game. We'll
- 56:11Speaker 4: see on that front. But you know, it's tough because
- 56:14Speaker 4: Chris Jones is really good. The Egles did a really
- 56:16Speaker 4: good job of keeping him in check, as they have
- 56:19Speaker 4: done typically in the past with like most premier defensive
- 56:22Speaker 4: line talent. You think about like Micah Parsons. You think
- 56:24Speaker 4: about Aaron Donald when he used to play. Those usually
- 56:28Speaker 4: are pretty good because they're basically to say, hey, we're
- 56:30Speaker 4: not going to let that guy beat us, and we'll
- 56:31Speaker 4: dare any other guy to beat us. That being said,
- 56:34Speaker 4: Chris Jones did have some success against them last year
- 56:37Speaker 4: when the Eagles played the Chiefs in Kansas City, and
- 56:39Speaker 4: he's just so good that he's probably not going to
- 56:41Speaker 4: be denied the entire game most likely, So you know,
- 56:45Speaker 4: that's obviously a big factor there. And then with the blitzing,
- 56:48Speaker 4: the way I think about it is like I think
- 56:50Speaker 4: we all it gets talked about in a way where
- 56:52Speaker 4: like it's only an advantage for the defense, right because
- 56:55Speaker 4: you're thinking about it can create avoc and issued and
- 56:58Speaker 4: it can. I'm not going to deny that part of it.
- 57:01Speaker 4: But the other part of it is if it doesn't
- 57:02Speaker 4: get home, then all of a sudden, you know, like
- 57:05Speaker 4: you can take advantage of that, right, And I think
- 57:07Speaker 4: that's exactly how the Eagles looked at it. And I
- 57:09Speaker 4: was watching the Chiefs game from last year in twenty
- 57:11Speaker 4: twenty three when the Eagles beat them in Kansas City,
- 57:14Speaker 4: where there were some blitzes that the Chiefs had called
- 57:17Speaker 4: up where Jalen Hurts just takes the ball and instantly
- 57:20Speaker 4: starts running to a vacated area where no one is so,
- 57:22Speaker 4: you know, and I do think that's gonna be another
- 57:24Speaker 4: factor here. And I think we saw some of that
- 57:25Speaker 4: in the previous Super Bowl as well, where Jalen Hurts
- 57:27Speaker 4: had a big day on the ground. And I do
- 57:29Speaker 4: think his legs are going to be a big part
- 57:31Speaker 4: of the Eagles offensive game plan and a counter to
- 57:34Speaker 4: that blitz So you know, you know, blitzing can be
- 57:36Speaker 4: great for the Chiefs, but can also leave them exposed
- 57:38Speaker 4: absolutely well.
- 57:39Speaker 1: You know, I was talking to my co host Lend
- 57:41Speaker 1: you know, just before bringing you on here, and you know,
- 57:44Speaker 1: I truly believe if Jalen Hurts doesn't turn the ball over,
- 57:48Speaker 1: the Eagles win their second Super Bowl. Here, I really
- 57:50Speaker 1: truly believe that his turnover for a touchdown in the
- 57:54Speaker 1: last Eagles chief Super Bowl, I mean, it was extremely
- 57:57Speaker 1: detrimental right before the half, and it really gave the
- 58:00Speaker 1: Chiefs a ton of momentum for the second half. The
- 58:02Speaker 1: Eagles go into halftime twenty four to seven instead of
- 58:06Speaker 1: twenty four to fourteen, and that was such a huge
- 58:09Speaker 1: key turnover and if there are no turnovers for Jalen
- 58:14Speaker 1: Hurts in this game, again, I think this Eagles team
- 58:17Speaker 1: and this offense is going to put up some points.
- 58:20Speaker 1: I also think it's going to be just continuous momentum
- 58:22Speaker 1: throughout the game. But I'm wondering, what else do you
- 58:25Speaker 1: want to see from Jalen Hurts this time around against
- 58:28Speaker 1: this Chief's defense. Everybody talks about blg about him getting
- 58:32Speaker 1: the ball out quicker. Look, folks, I don't think it's
- 58:35Speaker 1: gonna happen anytime soon. I don't think we're going to
- 58:37Speaker 1: see some sort of quote reform Jalen Hurts in terms
- 58:40Speaker 1: of his pocket presence and his reads. I don't know
- 58:44Speaker 1: what what else do you think we need to see
- 58:45Speaker 1: from Hurts this time around against his Chiefs defense.
- 58:48Speaker 4: Yeah, that fumbled in the last Super Bowl. It's it's
- 58:50Speaker 4: just so tough from a standpoint to like talk about
- 58:52Speaker 4: a ya. So it wasn't like, oh, the Chiefs made
- 58:55Speaker 4: a great play. You can't say that he just dropped
- 58:57Speaker 4: the ball. Yeah, but being careless, it's just a weird,
- 59:01Speaker 4: fluky kind of and and also it bounces in a
- 59:03Speaker 4: way obviously that like specifically leads to a Chiefs Touchdenneth
- 59:07Speaker 4: that bounceing away where he picks it up or whatever.
- 59:09Speaker 4: So that's that's football for you. And and and then
- 59:11Speaker 4: weird things happen, and you know, we can talk about
- 59:13Speaker 4: it here and matchups and everything, and sometimes it just
- 59:15Speaker 4: goes out the window because football is weird. It's a
- 59:17Speaker 4: weird shape ball and it bounces a certain way. Sometimes
- 59:21Speaker 4: sometimes it helps you, sometimes it doesn't. But in terms
- 59:24Speaker 4: of what I want to see from Jalen in this game,
- 59:26Speaker 4: you know, I do think, like you know, making quick
- 59:29Speaker 4: decisions would be great to see. We saw some of
- 59:31Speaker 4: that in the NFC Championship games. So certainly, you know,
- 59:34Speaker 4: if he's not holding the ball like he usually does,
- 59:37Speaker 4: which can lead to negative play as sacks and and
- 59:40Speaker 4: really giving the Chiefs time to get home to him,
- 59:44Speaker 4: I would like to see if he is going to
- 59:46Speaker 4: hold onto the ball. Like holding onto the ball isn't
- 59:49Speaker 4: inherently bad, I think we can all agree on that,
- 59:51Speaker 4: but it's the part part of the problem when Jalen
- 59:54Speaker 4: holds onto the ball. This season especially has been like
- 59:57Speaker 4: we haven't always seen the big play part of that
- 59:59Speaker 4: equation be part of it, Like if you're gonna hold
- 1:00:01Speaker 4: onto the ball. That can be good, but you also
- 1:00:04Speaker 4: and there could be negative associated with that, sacks and whatnot,
- 1:00:07Speaker 4: but it should also ideally, you know, balance out where
- 1:00:10Speaker 4: you're getting. You're holding onto the ball more to extend
- 1:00:12Speaker 4: the play and make plays downfield. And I don't think
- 1:00:16Speaker 4: we've seen that part of the equation. It's been more
- 1:00:18Speaker 4: of just like throwaways or sacks and at a high
- 1:00:21Speaker 4: rate or too high of a rate. So if he
- 1:00:24Speaker 4: is gonna hold the ball, I would like to see
- 1:00:26Speaker 4: him at least take some shots downfield. Obviously had that
- 1:00:28Speaker 4: shot downfield to A. J. Brown in the NFC Championship game,
- 1:00:32Speaker 4: which is huge, And like, I know that you just
- 1:00:34Speaker 4: want to play conservative and turnover free, but I really
- 1:00:37Speaker 4: don't think like an occasional arm punt is gonna be
- 1:00:40Speaker 4: like the death knell for them, right if they don't
- 1:00:42Speaker 4: gets kicked off sixty yards down the field. Like I
- 1:00:44Speaker 4: can live with that, especially because I think more often
- 1:00:47Speaker 4: than not with those deep shots, you know, he and A. J. Brown,
- 1:00:51Speaker 4: assuming it's him where Davante whoever, are gonna win out.
- 1:00:54Speaker 4: AJ's really good at making those catches. Jalen's really good.
- 1:00:57Speaker 4: That's probably one of the best passes he throws. So
- 1:01:00Speaker 4: I just I'm not saying you to bombit downfield all
- 1:01:02Speaker 4: game long, but that has to be an element at
- 1:01:04Speaker 4: some point.
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: I think that's a great point. Great point you make
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: for sure. You know, we've been talking for weeks here,
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: BLG weeks and weeks about this Eagles team and being
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: one of the most complete teams that we have ever seen,
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: and that's why this season has been so amazing. But
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: you know, we cannot forget and you were just talking
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: about these two receivers. We can't forget about AJ Brown
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: and Devonte Smith. So how do you see the wide
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: receivers roll this week in this offense against the Chiefs defense,
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: who utilizes a lot of dime packages, you know, six
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: d backs out on the field. How do you see
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: the wide receivers really making their impact this week in
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: the Super Bowl.
- 1:01:42Speaker 4: I'm gonna keep it simple. I'm gonna say, throw the
- 1:01:44Speaker 4: ball to AJ Brown because good things happen. Yeah, good
- 1:01:47Speaker 4: things happen. I mean it's really it's not that simple,
- 1:01:50Speaker 4: but it really is. At the same time, because this
- 1:01:52Speaker 4: season when Dalen Hurtsy's target at AJ Brown, he is
- 1:01:54Speaker 4: one hundred and twenty one point three passer rating, like
- 1:01:57Speaker 4: it's very obvious. Yeah, good things happen, so you know
- 1:02:00Speaker 4: it can't be one of the when we've seen some
- 1:02:01Speaker 4: games though this year, you know where like I think
- 1:02:03Speaker 4: it's in the Panthers game. Aja only ends up with
- 1:02:05Speaker 4: four targets in that Packers game obviously wasn't targeted. A
- 1:02:08Speaker 4: whole lot can't happen. I don't care. There's there's no
- 1:02:12Speaker 4: there's no way like a team is defending him where
- 1:02:16Speaker 4: that is acceptable unless like they're literally, you know, putting
- 1:02:19Speaker 4: two people on him, which doesn't happen. It's actually like
- 1:02:21Speaker 4: truly double covered, unless you're like Calvin Johnson in that
- 1:02:24Speaker 4: one graphic where they playing the Saints or whatever years
- 1:02:27Speaker 4: ago and they actually put two people on him in
- 1:02:29Speaker 4: people line, Like that doesn't that's not happening, So a
- 1:02:32Speaker 4: j And also if AJ is covered, I don't care,
- 1:02:35Speaker 4: give him a shot to make a play because he
- 1:02:36Speaker 4: can do that. And if he's not, then DeVante has
- 1:02:39Speaker 4: to be open. So I think it's really as simple
- 1:02:41Speaker 4: as just like you know, putting trust in those guys
- 1:02:43Speaker 4: to make plays. And I know that's not exactly how
- 1:02:45Speaker 4: they've wanted to play with how you know turnover averse
- 1:02:49Speaker 4: they've been, but I think at some point, again, maybe
- 1:02:52Speaker 4: it's where they are in the field and you have
- 1:02:54Speaker 4: to be smart about it. But taking some deep shots
- 1:02:56Speaker 4: to those guys, I think that's the move.
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: Right, very good Again, folks are talking to Brandon Lee
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: gout and BLG from Bleedinggreen Nation dot com. Search him
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: out on various social media sites. On Twitter, slash x
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: at Brandon Gouten and no you're are you over on
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: Blue Sky? I'm forget. I'm forgetting if I'm even following Lea.
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: All right, Blue Sky threads. I think you're over there
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: as well too, right right, Oh my gosh, I'm on.
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: It's it's ridiculous at this point, it really is, but
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: we have to do it for some reason. Anyway, Let's
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: talk about this Eagles defense here. I think the Birds
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: pass rush here heading into this game can very much
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: disrupt the Chiefs offensive line, disrupt Patrick Mahomes as well.
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: But the problem here is is that he's Patrick Mahomes.
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: I mean, the real question is can the Eagles defense
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: really again I will use the word neutralize, neutralize Patrick
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: Mahomes during key moments of this game. How do they
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: get this done? Here because we know we know the
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: type of ball that Patrick Mahomes plays, and we know
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: that every now and again. Look, don't want to get
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: len and I were talking about this as well. I
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: don't want to get into the whole refs thing too
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: too much, but we know that there is a pattern
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: of you know, him getting some calls here and there. Again,
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: that question is, how can the defense neutralize Patrick Mahomes
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: during this game? How do they get it done? BLG.
- 1:04:15Speaker 4: I think it comes down to Jaen Carter. I really
- 1:04:17Speaker 4: think he is the guy who and the last time
- 1:04:20Speaker 4: the Eagles played in the Super Dome, I was against
- 1:04:22Speaker 4: the Saints. You know, a different situation. The Saints were
- 1:04:24Speaker 4: also missing some offensive lineman at that point. But that
- 1:04:27Speaker 4: is exactly the kind of game that young Carter can
- 1:04:30Speaker 4: have where he wrecks the game and it totally just
- 1:04:32Speaker 4: stifles the opposing offense. I think he needs to have
- 1:04:35Speaker 4: that kind of performance. I think he's capable of having that.
- 1:04:38Speaker 4: I do think it'll be very interesting to see how
- 1:04:40Speaker 4: the Chiefs plan to defend him.
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: That's what I mean. Are they going to double him
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: every single play? And if they do, what does that
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: do for the other aspects? Of this Eagles pass rush
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: I see.
- 1:04:51Speaker 4: I almost wonder if they won't because you know, Trey
- 1:04:53Speaker 4: Smith the card is also very good, and you know,
- 1:04:55Speaker 4: I think there are so many times where they double
- 1:04:57Speaker 4: Jim Carter. Of course there will, and even if they're
- 1:04:59Speaker 4: playing and is the double team of all game long,
- 1:05:01Speaker 4: there probably will be a couple of snaps for he
- 1:05:03Speaker 4: won't be But I do think there will be times
- 1:05:06Speaker 4: where they do just leave Trey Smith one on one
- 1:05:08Speaker 4: Jill and Carter, and then that obviously gives the Chiefs
- 1:05:11Speaker 4: the ability to kind of give more help to their
- 1:05:13Speaker 4: weak point on their offensive line, left guard Mike Caliendo
- 1:05:16Speaker 4: there and then all of a sudden, Milton Williams, who's
- 1:05:18Speaker 4: had a really good season, doesn't have those one on
- 1:05:20Speaker 4: one because he might be getting double teamed, and then
- 1:05:23Speaker 4: you know that's not a good situation. But I do
- 1:05:26Speaker 4: think it comes down to Jaen Carter just absolutely being
- 1:05:29Speaker 4: a force. They need him to be that kind of
- 1:05:31Speaker 4: difference maker in this game. It might not even be
- 1:05:34Speaker 4: in a way where like that it shows up on
- 1:05:36Speaker 4: the stat sheet. That's like how that Saints game was.
- 1:05:37Speaker 4: He didn't he had a good game. If you look
- 1:05:39Speaker 4: at the box Scuore, But it wasn't like this otherworldly
- 1:05:41Speaker 4: game if you're just looking at stat sheet, but if
- 1:05:43Speaker 4: you turn on the tape, I mean he's just wrecking
- 1:05:45Speaker 4: every single play. Yeah, and I think they need that
- 1:05:47Speaker 4: kind of echelon performance from Jaien Carter. Also, you know,
- 1:05:52Speaker 4: Nolan Smith is gonna be a big factor in this
- 1:05:53Speaker 4: one as well, going up against Jawan Taylor. And Nolan's
- 1:05:56Speaker 4: just been incredibly hot here for a long time now,
- 1:06:00Speaker 4: is what ten to a half saxon the last fifteen games. Yeah,
- 1:06:02Speaker 4: he've turned it up in the playoffs, especially, he's gonna
- 1:06:05Speaker 4: Jaan Taylor is able to be had there. And I
- 1:06:08Speaker 4: do think it's gonna come down to Nolan also making
- 1:06:10Speaker 4: some key plays, especially if joeccarter is getting that extra attention.
- 1:06:14Speaker 1: I can't wait to see what this Eagles defensive front
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: is going to do against this Chiefs offense. It's gonna
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: be it's gonna be so fun to watch. But BLG,
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: I'm sorry before I let you go here. You know,
- 1:06:24Speaker 1: in these Super Bowls, we see time and time again
- 1:06:29Speaker 1: it's just one play here or there that makes all
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: the difference in the world. We talked about it earlier
- 1:06:34Speaker 1: with the with the Jalen Hurts fumble from a couple
- 1:06:36Speaker 1: of years ago in the Super Bowl. You know, whether
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: it's a fumble, an interception, a penalty, whatever the case is.
- 1:06:41Speaker 1: I'm wondering what what do you think will be an
- 1:06:44Speaker 1: intangible in this game that really could lead to an
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: Eagles win and them getting their second Super Bowl? Have
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: you thought about what that intangible might be in this game?
- 1:06:56Speaker 4: I really think it's gonna be the fourth down stuff.
- 1:06:58Speaker 2: I really do.
- 1:06:59Speaker 4: Okay, look back to last Super Bowl and that's one
- 1:07:03Speaker 4: of my biggest like sticking points of why I've had
- 1:07:06Speaker 4: questions about Nick Sirianni, because it's not even just about
- 1:07:10Speaker 4: the analytics of it all. That's obviously a big part
- 1:07:12Speaker 4: of it to me, but like take let's say we
- 1:07:14Speaker 4: disagree on that and we can just eliminate that for
- 1:07:16Speaker 4: a second. When he doesn't go for that fourth and
- 1:07:19Speaker 4: three his own territory in that game, it was a
- 1:07:22Speaker 4: blatant like disregard of what was actively happening in the
- 1:07:25Speaker 4: game itself. Because the Chiefs had just gone on these
- 1:07:28Speaker 4: massive long scoring drives. Your defense clearly didn't have answers
- 1:07:32Speaker 4: at that point, So why are you punning the ball, yeah,
- 1:07:35Speaker 4: and saying let's trust in the defense right now, when
- 1:07:38Speaker 4: your quarterback was playing awesome and like like you know,
- 1:07:41Speaker 4: super Bowl MVP caliber kind of performance. And also your
- 1:07:44Speaker 4: punter had just come off ir you know, coming off
- 1:07:47Speaker 4: an injury, like you don't know where he's at. And
- 1:07:49Speaker 4: the special teams what did we say the whole twenty
- 1:07:52Speaker 4: two season, Like, oh no, because it team is awesome,
- 1:07:54Speaker 4: but the special team's kind of shaky. So why are
- 1:07:56Speaker 4: you trusting in the special teams? Why are you trusting
- 1:07:58Speaker 4: in the defense over the offense that situation, even if
- 1:08:01Speaker 4: you just regard, disregard the analytics for a second, and
- 1:08:04Speaker 4: they obviously do say go for it. So I need
- 1:08:07Speaker 4: Sirianni to be aggressive in this situation. You don't beat
- 1:08:10Speaker 4: at a very simple level, don't beat Patrick Mahomes by
- 1:08:14Speaker 4: kicking field goals and punting the ball, right, That's not
- 1:08:19Speaker 4: how you beat him. You have to go out and
- 1:08:21Speaker 4: do everything you possibly can. And if you lose like that,
- 1:08:25Speaker 4: I feel like you should be able to live with
- 1:08:26Speaker 4: that a lot more than you can if you're saying, oh,
- 1:08:28Speaker 4: what if we had gone for it? So I think
- 1:08:31Speaker 4: Nick Sirianni really has to be aggressive and play for
- 1:08:34Speaker 4: Broke in this game.
