- 0:02SPEAKER_00: Alright everybody, how you doing this morning?
- 0:06SPEAKER_00: I want to talk to you about uh we're still in kind of indirectly, we're still talking about the triune brain.
- 0:13SPEAKER_00: Basically, we're talking about uh health, vitality, vision, excellence, abundant life, John 10, 10, uh the thief comes to steal, kill, and destroy.
- 0:25SPEAKER_00: Um remember, my thought on that is this, or my a big thought that's shaking me in my thinking is the greatest theft the enemy succeeds at is not taking from what you have, it's keeping you from getting what God meant for you to have.
- 0:43SPEAKER_00: All right, that's important.
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: So Jesus went on to say, uh, I've come that you might have life in that life more abundantly.
- 0:50SPEAKER_00: And that's what I want for you.
- 0:51SPEAKER_00: Abundant means more than enough.
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: Um some would say it means excellent in quantity and quality.
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: So I just want, you know, I'm an older guy now, and um I want you to have uh, I don't know, pleasure, pride, uh, the right kind of pride, but uh contentment, and yet at the same time still be hungry when you're my age.
- 1:18SPEAKER_00: I want you to feel good about the person you've become.
- 1:21SPEAKER_00: I want to want you to feel good about the relationships you've built, marriage, kids, family, friends.
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: Um I want you to feel good about the impact your life's had on others.
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: And uh so that's what we talk about a lot.
- 1:34SPEAKER_00: And what we've been talking about lately is your brain and how it fits into this spirit, soul, and body transformation that God desires to do in each of our lives.
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: So, what we've been talking about lately, because of something we've talked about the last few weeks, uh, a couple weeks ago, about chronic stimulation or chronic um uh hyperadrenalization.
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: In other words, living our lives stirred up too high for too long, not uh uh interrupted or or or broken uh by rhythms of restfulness.
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: And so what we've been talking about lately is the concept of Sabbath.
- 2:16SPEAKER_00: And uh I have different views on it because I'm trying to make it something that can actually work for you.
- 2:22SPEAKER_00: And um not a big fan anymore of the concept of, oh well, you know, Friday's my Sabbath.
- 2:28SPEAKER_00: Uh basically, Friday's your day off.
- 2:31SPEAKER_00: It doesn't mean it's your Sabbath, and taking a day off doesn't make it your Sabbath.
- 2:35SPEAKER_00: Sabbath is a more serious word than that, it's a more intentional word than that.
- 2:42SPEAKER_00: I like to say it this way that if there's not a radical rest component to the time you set aside and call Sabbath, radical meaning getting to the root of the issue, not the symptoms.
- 2:56SPEAKER_00: If there's not a radical rest component to it, then let's not call it Sabbath.
- 3:00SPEAKER_00: Let's just call it a day off, a vacation, a rest, whatever.
- 3:04SPEAKER_00: Alright?
- 3:05SPEAKER_00: So last week we talked about some scriptures and what they have to say about Sabbath.
- 3:09SPEAKER_00: Today I'm going to talk to you about what, so what do I do with the concept of Sabbath?
- 3:14SPEAKER_00: And what I do with it is I like to talk to you about a Sabbath mindset and a Sabbath lifestyle.
- 3:20SPEAKER_00: A Sabbath mindset and a Sabbath lifestyle.
- 3:25SPEAKER_00: One of the scriptures we mentioned last week was that the Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath.
- 3:32SPEAKER_00: And all I mean by emphasizing that is this God made the concept of the Sabbath to serve us, to accommodate the way he designed us.
- 3:42SPEAKER_00: So I don't think I'm perverting anything by being reluctant to use the word Sabbath day.
- 3:50SPEAKER_00: So, what is a Sabbath mindset or a Sabbath lifestyle?
- 3:55SPEAKER_00: It's a mental and spiritual attitude.
- 3:58SPEAKER_00: It's not the inevitable result of spare time, a holiday, a weekend, or a vacation.
- 4:03SPEAKER_00: I'm reading from some notes that I've used.
- 4:06SPEAKER_00: A Sabbath mindset is an attitude.
- 4:10SPEAKER_00: It's a way you posture yourself from the inside out.
- 4:13SPEAKER_00: And I'll probably use that concept several times.
- 4:17SPEAKER_00: Um, a Sabbath mindset or lifestyle is an intentional, regular reorientation of ourselves with God's reality, God's culture, and God's kingdom.
- 4:30SPEAKER_00: For me, Sabbath is an opportunity taken as often as needed until it becomes more habitual.
- 4:38SPEAKER_00: In other words, I believe you can get to the place where you Sabbath sufficiently.
- 4:41SPEAKER_00: In other words, you create a mindset and a lifestyle that keeps you connected and oriented to God's reality, God's culture, and God's kingdom.
- 4:54SPEAKER_00: And there's so much buried in all that.
- 4:57SPEAKER_00: God's reality is the sense that, contrary to uh the prevailing mood of our culture and world today, that there's more than what you can see, taste, or measure, more than you can engage in contact with your five senses.
- 5:12SPEAKER_00: God's reality is, I call it parallel reality, dual reality, and that is the seen and the unseen, the natural and the spiritual.
- 5:19SPEAKER_00: And a Sabbath time is reorienting yourself, reconnecting yourself to the reality of the seen and the unseen, and the potential of that and the joy of that.
- 5:31SPEAKER_00: And it's it's reorienting yourself to God's culture.
- 5:34SPEAKER_00: What does that mean?
- 5:36SPEAKER_00: Well, culture is the way you do things, and usually culture is not listed like this is our culture.
- 5:44SPEAKER_00: If it is listed, it's probably not your culture, because culture is sort of subconscious.
- 5:49SPEAKER_00: It's just the way we do things, and God has a way he does things.
- 5:54SPEAKER_00: And so Sabbath is a time to re-center ourselves, to reorient ourselves to God's reality, culture, and kingdom.
- 6:04SPEAKER_00: Sabbath mindset and a Sabbath lifestyle is built on moments or seasons, moments or seasons of quiet, restful withdrawal.
- 6:16SPEAKER_00: Quiet, restful withdrawal.
- 6:19SPEAKER_00: In other words, stepping away from the noise, the hurry, and the crowds.
- 6:24SPEAKER_00: Stepping away from all the things that keep us stirred up.
- 6:28SPEAKER_00: I'm doing this on my iPhone.
- 6:30SPEAKER_00: If I wasn't, I'd hold it up and say to you, this is one of the main challenges to that, that keeps us from disengaging from the scene and hurrying and all of that.
- 6:44SPEAKER_00: So it's built on moments or seasons of quiet, restful withdrawal and receptive attention.
- 6:50SPEAKER_00: I love that phrase, receptive attention.
- 6:54SPEAKER_00: You might use the word noticing.
- 6:56SPEAKER_00: It's Sabbath mindset and lifestyle is living in such a way centered in God's uh reality, culture, and kingdom, to where you just notice things.
- 7:08SPEAKER_00: You notice things, you notice people, you you you notice the sense and feeling of a room, you you notice a beautiful sky, uh, you hear birds, you notice, you notice life as it passes you by.
- 7:25SPEAKER_00: And it's also a good barometer.
- 7:28SPEAKER_00: So another aspect of a Sabbath mindset or lifestyle is reorienting, replanting, re-rooting, re-rooting ourselves in the soil of God's presence, power, purpose, and protection.
- 7:45SPEAKER_00: Re-rooting ourselves.
- 7:47SPEAKER_00: Like roots seek nourishment.
- 7:49SPEAKER_00: There's a verse in Ephesians 3 that talks about being rooted and grounded.
- 7:53SPEAKER_00: Rooted and grounded.
- 7:54SPEAKER_00: Rooted is, this is the chip jud.
- 7:57SPEAKER_00: Rooted is is nourishment, grounded is stability, security, strength.
- 8:02SPEAKER_00: So a Sabbath mindset and lifestyle is a way to re-root myself on a regular basis in the soil of God's presence, God's power, God's purpose, God's protection, God's provision, lots of peas there, right?
- 8:18SPEAKER_00: A Sabbath mindset or lifestyle is shifting from, remember, it's it's reorienting ourselves to God's reality, culture, and kingdom.
- 8:28SPEAKER_00: Reality, culture, and kingdom.
- 8:30SPEAKER_00: And our the culture around us lives life like this.
- 8:34SPEAKER_00: Do stuff so that you can have stuff, and then you define who you are, your identity, worth, and value by what you do and what you have.
- 8:43SPEAKER_00: Do stuff so you can have stuff, and then your identity is built on what you can do and what you have.
- 8:50SPEAKER_00: That's those the secular worldly culture around us.
- 8:54SPEAKER_00: A Sabbath mindset and lifestyle re-roots us, re-centers us in God's reality, culture, and kingdom.
- 9:00SPEAKER_00: And God's reality, culture, and kingdom works like this: be who you are, be who God's made you.
- 9:07SPEAKER_00: What has he made you?
- 9:08SPEAKER_00: A beloved son or daughter, rooted in his love, rooted in his purpose, rooted in his acceptance, living from love, not for love, living from identity, not for identity.
- 9:22SPEAKER_00: So in God's kingdom, we we be, and then out of our being, we do, and out of our being, doing, we have what God intends for us to have.
- 9:36SPEAKER_00: So having a Sabbath mindset or lifestyle is shifting from the world's way.
- 9:42SPEAKER_00: Do stuff so you can have stuff, so that you can be your identity, worth, and value based on what you can do and have.
- 9:50SPEAKER_00: Shifting from that to being who and what you are, established by God and His love and grace and mercy, so that you can then do stuff and have stuff.
- 10:01SPEAKER_00: Alright?
- 10:02SPEAKER_00: So next week we're going to talk about some actual rhythms.
- 10:05SPEAKER_00: What are some practical ways that you can practice a Sabbath mindset and a Sabbath lifestyle?
- 10:13SPEAKER_00: Alright?
- 10:15SPEAKER_00: See you later, man.
- 10:16SPEAKER_00: Love you guys.
