Transcript
- 0:10Hello Marvel fans, comic geeks, and all nerds between My Name is
- 0:13Megan with Vigilante vibes and I'm here with another character
- 0:15Breakdown. And today I want to talk about
- 0:17someone who is just a thorn in everyone's side.
- 0:20But he has the right to be, because he is wildly powerful.
- 0:23He is a mutant. Of course.
- 0:25We are going to talk about Quentin Choir first appeared in
- 0:28Marvel Comics and New X-Men #134 and was created by Grant
- 0:32Morrison and Karen Grant. Quentin Choir showed up at
- 0:36Xavier's Institute already acting like he was the smartest
- 0:39person in the room. But honestly, he probably was.
- 0:43To be fair, the guy was an insanely powerful telepath with
- 0:47a brain so weird that even the Stepford Cuckoos found him
- 0:50unsettling, which is saying a whole lot.
- 0:53While other students were learning algebra and not
- 0:56exploding, Quentin was inventing anti gravity tech for Martha
- 1:00Johansson's floating brain jar and arguing philosophy with
- 1:03Professor X all before lunch. Things started going off the
- 1:07rails after Quentin learned he was adopted.
- 1:10Instead of processing that in therapy like a normal person
- 1:13would, he got a mutant supervillain haircut, started
- 1:16dressing like a mutant dictator from an old newspaper, and
- 1:19formed the Omega Gang with a bunch of angry students hopped
- 1:23up on Kik, a mutant drug that basically turns bad decisions
- 1:26into lifestyle choices. They attacked humans, beat down
- 1:30Professor X with a baseball bat, put Magneto style psychic
- 1:34blockers on him, and kicked off a full mutant riot at Xavier's
- 1:39open house, which is casual. The Stepford Cuckoos eventually
- 1:46stopped him, but by then Quentin's brain had basically
- 1:49turned into raw psionic energy from overdosing on Kik.
- 1:52He died, got stuffed into a jar and B Slab, came back because
- 1:56the Phoenix Force thought he might be Jean Grey for like 5
- 1:59seconds, tried to resurrect Sophie, Cuckoo because he was
- 2:02catastrophically down bad, failed miserably, apologized to
- 2:06the X-Men, and then went back into the jar, which somehow was
- 2:11not even close to the weirdest thing he'd do.
- 2:14Over the years Quentin bounced between menace, revolutionary
- 2:18walking disaster, and actual hero.
- 2:20Wolverine dragged him to the Jean Grey school hoping he could
- 2:24be reformed instead of becoming an Omega level nightmare.
- 2:27Quentin mostly responded by causing detention, fighting
- 2:31monsters, infiltrating evil schools, dating ID who's
- 2:35actually temper, annoying everybody alive, and somehow
- 2:39graduating into becoming a real X Man completely against his
- 2:43will. Later he joined Jubilee Squad,
- 2:47fought and Plate, briefly became a literal Shire God after
- 2:51negotiating with the Phoenix Force, and then used a fragment
- 2:55of the Phoenix to cure Jubilee's vampirism and restore her mutant
- 2:58powers. One of the few genuinely
- 3:01selfless things he ever did without immediately making it
- 3:05everyone else's problem. Then Kirkoa happened.
- 3:08Quentin somehow became both more powerful and more reckless.
- 3:12He joined X force with Wolverine where dying basically became his
- 3:16side hobby. He got decapitated by a blown up
- 3:19Kirkoan gateway, killed by a telepathic plant spores,
- 3:23murdered by Russian infiltrators, eaten by Saber
- 3:27Tooth's mutant cannibal army, and repeatedly resurrected so
- 3:30often that even his girlfriend Phoebe Cuckoo got tired of
- 3:34restoring his memories every time he exploded.
- 3:38Despite all that, Quentin slowly started maturing very slowly,
- 3:43like microwave pepperoni Hot pocket rotating at 2:00 AM.
- 3:46Slowly, he helped stop Cerebrax, confronted Beast's descent into
- 3:53full war criminal territory, rescued mutants during the fall
- 3:57of Krakoa, and even sacrificed himself as a telepathic weapon
- 4:01to save others during Saber Tooth's massacre.
- 4:04To this day, he is still a hero, even if it's against his will.
- 4:08He is on Scott Summers X-Men team chilling in Alaska
- 4:12literally, and I'm excited to see where his character goes.
- 4:16We did get to see kind of a look at him in the future in the Age
- 4:19of Revelation event where I'm just saying they didn't have to
- 4:23make him a whole smoke show. I really like the facial hair.
- 4:28I I have a type. So the craziest part about
- 4:32Quentin Choir is that underneath all the arrogance, chaos, the
- 4:35pink hair, Omega level ego, he actually did become what Xavier
- 4:40hoped for. Not a perfect hero, not even a
- 4:43stable one, but someone who kept choosing to fight for mutants no
- 4:47matter how many times he died, got resurrected, or made an
- 4:50absolute mess of his life along the way.
- 4:54So that is Quentin Choir. He is he is someone that I love
- 4:59reading comics with him because he is so irritating to the other
- 5:03characters and I am here for it. So thank you for watching.
- 5:08I hope you enjoyed this episode and I hope you'll like and
- 5:10subscribe. With that being said, have a
- 5:12marvelous day.
