- 0:00Aloha. Saturday morning — Hurricane Nolo is bearing down on the islands right now. I'm Mele with what's happening in Hawaiʻi today.
- 1:27The Big Island and Maui are in the direct path and will take the worst of it. Heavy rain is already falling on windward slopes, and flash flooding is possible — do not drive through flooded roads or cross streams. Winds are gusting over 50 miles per hour on both islands right now and will peak this afternoon at 45 to 50. Expect damaging winds statewide; secure anything loose outside.
- 1:47The ocean is dangerous everywhere today. East and southeast-facing shores are seeing large surf — Kauaʻi's Hanalei is running 8.6 feet, Oʻahu's north shore 6.6 feet, south shore 7.6 feet. Stay completely out of the water.
- 1:58Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park has several roads and trails closed — Crater Rim Drive West, Mauna Loa Road past the second cattle guard, and Kīpukapuaulu Trail are all off limits due to maintenance and hazardous conditions.
- 2:09If you're on the Big Island or Maui today, your plans have shifted. Hunker down, stay off the roads unless absolutely necessary, and keep an eye on local warnings. Power outages are likely from the wind damage, so charge your devices now. If you're on Oʻahu or Kauaʻi, you'll still feel this — gusts and heavy rain — but you're out of the worst of it.
- 2:27Conditions will improve Sunday as Nolo moves west. Stay off the islands' roads and out of the water through the weekend.
- 2:33Stay safe out there. Catch you tomorrow.
