- 0:05Welcome to The Hypnotist, the show that gives you inside
- 0:09access to cutting edge hypnosis with real clients facing
- 0:12genuine. Issues.
- 0:13Brought to you by The Hypnotherapist, demanded by
- 0:16celebrities, CEOs and even royalty, Adam Cox.
- 0:20These recordings took place live from Evans Clinic in London's
- 0:24world famous Harley Street. So get yourself comfortable and
- 0:31enjoy today's episode of The Hypnotist.
- 0:41Hi, it's Adam here, and this session is all about quitting
- 0:44weed, cannabis, marijuana, whatever you want to call it.
- 0:47The client that I was working with had made some really
- 0:51positive changes in their life. They used to use cocaine.
- 0:55They don't use it anymore. They used to be quite a heavy
- 0:58drinker. They weren't drinking in the
- 1:00same way that they were. They changed certain social
- 1:04groups and certain things linked to an evaluation that that's not
- 1:10who they are anymore. They recently turned 30.
- 1:13And because of that, they were willing to let go of certain
- 1:17things that were in their past that they didn't really want to
- 1:20have in their future. And the next step on that
- 1:24journey was quitting weed. Now, what you're going to hear
- 1:28is a few really cool things. A lot of it is based on
- 1:32regression. They get to regress back to that
- 1:35time and themselves when they had those early experiences with
- 1:40weed and say, well, yeah, maybe it gave them something back
- 1:44then, but it certainly isn't giving them the same things now
- 1:48and seeing a future that would happen if they continued down
- 1:51that path and contrasting that with the kind of future that
- 1:55they would want. There's also lots of references
- 1:58about growing out of stuff now. If you think about clothes that
- 2:03used to wear music, used to listen to back when you were a
- 2:06teenager, it's unlikely that you wear the same kind of clothes.
- 2:11The reference I make with this particular client is that they
- 2:13had a particular hairstyle where they would straighten their
- 2:16hair, and that was very unique to them.
- 2:20And then one day they just decided that they didn't think
- 2:23that was part of their identity anymore and they changed it.
- 2:26And that didn't require struggle and willpower.
- 2:29It was just a choice because they grew out of that phase.
- 2:33Now, the reason why there's so many references to that, a lot
- 2:37of people have this unconscious belief that quitting something
- 2:41is a struggle or that if you're addicted to something somehow
- 2:46that's your identity forever. Think of the 12 step program.
- 2:50You're that way forever. And I don't believe that.
- 2:53I believe that humans have the ability to do certain things for
- 2:56a period of time, make a decision that they don't want to
- 2:59do it, and if it doesn't fit with their new identity, they
- 3:02can let go of that pretty quick. That's the essence of this.
- 3:06There's also an element of a ritual suggested so that the way
- 3:10that this client was consuming weed was through cartridges, so
- 3:15the actual kind of vaping it rather than smoking it or using
- 3:20other ways. So there's a ritual here about a
- 3:24a hammer smashing up to 1,000,000 pieces.
- 3:28Now, the reason that I encourage people to have a ritual when
- 3:31they make that decision to quit something, and that might be
- 3:35someone having too much alcohol. They want to change the
- 3:38relationship to pouring it down the sink is because it creates a
- 3:42very vivid memory and creates a new evaluation that if they are
- 3:47doing this thing, that something has changed.
- 3:50That's a a very good way of building a form of belief known
- 3:53as self efficacy, where you interpret the belief through the
- 3:57action that you take. In this case, it was throwing
- 4:01out paraphernalia, it was smashing up the cartridge and it
- 4:04was doing it on a particular day before the the, the rubbish
- 4:08roots in the UK or the trash in the States was carried away.
- 4:11And that was deliberate. So it's all part of establishing
- 4:15A ritual link to a new identity and the overall sentiment that
- 4:19they've just grown out of this behaviour.
- 4:22It doesn't have to be weed that you're giving up here.
- 4:24It could be anything that you decide you just don't want to do
- 4:27that thing anymore in the way that you used to.
- 4:31So you can think of that. And if you do like the idea of a
- 4:34bespoke session with me and we just focus on whatever The thing
- 4:38is, the habit, the behaviour that you're doing that you don't
- 4:41want to do anymore. There's a link in the
- 4:43description where you can book a free consultation call, we'll
- 4:46have a chat, I can explain how I work and then I can actually do
- 4:49a session for you rather than you hearing someone else's.
- 4:53For now though, you might get some value from this session.
- 4:55So find a quiet, comfortable place, but you won't be
- 4:58disturbed. Relax and enjoy.
- 5:00The session. Take a deep breath in, and as
- 5:33you breathe in, breathe in that resourceful feeling of calm and
- 5:39relaxation. And as you exhale, feel that
- 5:47wonderful feeling of release, as if any tensions, stress and
- 5:53worries starting to leave your body In your outward breath.
- 6:01Breathing in, relaxation and exhaling tension where each
- 6:12breath takes you deeper and deeper.
- 6:16Relaxed breathing in and breathing out.
- 6:24Just allow your eyelids to feel heavy and notice with your eyes
- 6:31closed how much easier it feels to focus on the sound of my
- 6:40voice. And the deeper you breathe, the
- 6:45more relaxed you become. And the more relaxed you become,
- 6:50the deeper you breathe, each breath taking you deeper and
- 7:00deeper. Relaxed now, and I wonder if you
- 7:08can recall the very first time that you had an experience with
- 7:20weed. I want you to imagine floating
- 7:24back, back in time at your current age, seeing that younger
- 7:30version of you. And I want you to notice certain
- 7:35things about you back then, how you dressed, how you styled your
- 7:42hair, your mannerisms. And as you observe, you can't
- 7:51help but notice that you were very different back then.
- 8:01And maybe there was an element of exploration, discovery or
- 8:07connection with different people.
- 8:12And I wonder if you can come to the conclusion that who you were
- 8:19back then is not who you are now in your 30s.
- 8:27And maybe there was a time that we'd gave you more than it took,
- 8:33but recently, maybe it feels that even when you're stressed,
- 8:40even when you're bored, it doesn't really do what it used
- 8:44to do. I want you to feel deep, deep
- 8:50inside that it doesn't really feel aligned with who you are
- 8:56now. And I want you to see overtime
- 9:02from that very first time all the way up to the present, and
- 9:09just observe how this relationship with weed started
- 9:16off, like many relationships do, desire enthusiasm.
- 9:30But more recently, it feels you're just going through the
- 9:34motions. And I want you to think of a
- 9:40place that you know well, where you feel relaxed, maybe a place
- 9:49in nature, a park, a beach, perhaps somewhere else.
- 9:59And just imagine stretching in that place, and as you breathe
- 10:07in deeply, you feel a sense of evolved clarity.
- 10:15And as you breathe out, just allow your shoulders to drop,
- 10:20your mind to relax, and your focus to turn inward.
- 10:27Because here, right now, there's nothing you need to fight and
- 10:33nothing to hide, only a quiet recognition that something
- 10:38inside you is now ready to change.
- 10:47Because there comes a time in every relationship when you
- 10:52realise that something or someone no longer serves you and
- 10:59you could appreciate what it gave you and still know that
- 11:04it's time to move on. And I want you to think back to
- 11:13someone, that someone you used to be in a relationship but
- 11:23aren't anymore. And imagine standing in front of
- 11:26someone like that, someone that was in your life for a long time
- 11:34and now isn't. And maybe at first that
- 11:38relationship felt good, perhaps comforting, fond or familiar.
- 11:48And then there were times where you felt bored, when you were
- 11:51stressed, when life felt overwhelming.
- 11:58I want you to get a sense then sometimes, for the good of them
- 12:08and the good of you, it's time to move on.
- 12:15And I want you to recall that definitive breakup.
- 12:20And maybe it came from a place of certainty, a deep resolve
- 12:29that even though it gave you pleasurable things in the past,
- 12:35it's not healthy or positive for your future.
- 12:44And I want you to get a feeling that that's how you feel now
- 12:50about weed. Imagine we being a relationship
- 12:57that used to give you something that was beneficial in some way,
- 13:09but now you see them for what they really are, something
- 13:18that's no longer keeping its promises, no longer giving what
- 13:24they used to give. And there was a time that you
- 13:29truly believed that you needed them, but now you can see
- 13:34clearly they're holding you back.
- 13:41They're getting in the way of the identity that you truly
- 13:45desire, that evolved version of you.
- 13:55And maybe you had a relationship in the past with an X that
- 14:01wasn't quite right for you. Maybe you broke up and they
- 14:07promised they would change, but they never did.
- 14:12They were who they always were. And it required you to make that
- 14:20change, to draw a line in the sand and say I'm done.
- 14:33Because recently weed has been taking more than it's giving.
- 14:37And let's be honest, just like an old hairstyle, you've
- 14:44outgrown them. And I want you to imagine having
- 14:51that conversation with weed like it's a human, as if they're
- 14:58standing right in front of you. And imagine what you would say
- 15:04to break up with them. Maybe something like we've had
- 15:09our time, but that time is over. Or you helped me once, but now
- 15:18you slow me down. It's important I choose myself,
- 15:24my health and my future. And you can even thank it for
- 15:34those memories, those lessons, the comfort or the escape, and
- 15:39still know with absolute certainty you don't need it
- 15:45anymore. Because of what you used to get
- 15:50from weed, you can now get from you when you're bored.
- 15:57You can write, draw, or create. You can open a notebook, fill
- 16:06the page with thoughts, shapes and ideas.
- 16:13Because creation connects you to something deeper.
- 16:18And when you're stressed, you can stretch.
- 16:21You can move, learn, and grow. Maybe it's a good book or
- 16:26documentary because learning expands your world, while we'd
- 16:35used to just distract and shrink from it.
- 16:41And if you're really overwhelmed, you can pause,
- 16:46breathe, reflect, reprioritize, and you can be curious instead
- 16:53of escaping. Because you've learned that
- 16:58peace doesn't come from weed. It comes from clarity.
- 17:07It comes from putting you first. And I wonder if you can imagine
- 17:16holding that last cartridge, the one you've decided to destroy.
- 17:24Maybe you can feel the weight of it in your hand, the old
- 17:28pattern, the old comfort, the old identity, but not you
- 17:33anymore. Perhaps you can imagine holding
- 17:37a hammer and you can sense deep power awakening in you, the
- 17:45power of choice, the power of finality.
- 17:53And imagine colliding that hammer with that cartridge.
- 17:58A clean break and the cycle ends.
- 18:04And in that sound, that shattering moment, something
- 18:09inside you shifts forever. The old you is gone, and the new
- 18:19you has arrived. And then imagine taking the
- 18:26remains of that symbolic ritual, the destruction of an old habit,
- 18:34and putting it in the trash just before it's collected, and
- 18:40feeling a sense that you are stepping into a new identity.
- 18:54And I want you to think that your 30s are not a continuation
- 18:58of your 20s, but an upgrade, in the same way that when you
- 19:06upgrade your phone, you don't use the old one because the new
- 19:12one is better. So consider your 30s a
- 19:18significant upgrade, A new chapter where wisdom replaces
- 19:23impulse, clarity replaces fog, and discipline replaces
- 19:31dependency. And you're evolving now into
- 19:38someone who chooses presence over numbness, connection over
- 19:45escape, and growth over comfort. And you can look back and see
- 19:54that weed was part of a younger chapter, a chapter that has had
- 20:00its time but now just isn't needed to help you thrive.
- 20:08And maybe you can recall a a particular hairstyle.
- 20:12You used to make so much effort to have that style, and one day
- 20:19you decided that wasn't you anymore.
- 20:23It didn't resonate with who you are.
- 20:27And you didn't need to use force or discipline.
- 20:31It just was a part of your past and allow we to be that for you
- 20:37now. It doesn't fit the person you're
- 20:42becoming because you're creating a life that's too vibrant, too
- 20:48full, too real. We doesn't belong in that
- 20:56future. And I want you to think of the
- 21:02triggers, maybe the time of day or the emotion or the feeling or
- 21:07the place. And every time those old
- 21:12triggers appear, your subconscious will automatically
- 21:17guide you toward the healthy, creative version of you, knowing
- 21:25that you have infinite better options.
- 21:29And when boredom appears, you can do something creative,
- 21:35stimulating, challenging, right? Draw Something creative,
- 21:47something stimulating. Because your mind is built to
- 21:56express, not suppress. And when stress appears, you've
- 22:06got so many choices there too. Remember when you've dealt with
- 22:12similar stressful situations? Well, think back to those times
- 22:22you felt incredibly resourceful. Maybe breathe and stretch and
- 22:29move or reflect and when overwhelm arrives you can make a
- 22:38list of all the things that feel overwhelming and just getting it
- 22:43out of your head reduces the overwhelm.
- 22:47No need for escape, no need for distraction because you in your
- 22:5230s doesn't run away from difficult things.
- 22:59You handle them. And I wonder if you could
- 23:05imagine yourself perhaps a few months or a few years into the
- 23:10future and you see yourself even more evolved.
- 23:17The trajectory that you're on, the momentum that you're
- 23:21building has taken you to a place of even more success, even
- 23:29more health. Maybe you see yourself in the
- 23:34ideal relationship, living the kind of lifestyle that fits with
- 23:40this new evolved version of you. And I want you to see that every
- 23:48area of your life is enhanced socially, emotionally,
- 23:55physically, everything. Everything has improved because
- 24:03of your evolution. See yourself connected, grounded
- 24:11and real. And notice that weed is just no
- 24:15longer part of your identity and hasn't been for a while.
- 24:23And I want you to think of that break up.
- 24:30Sometimes a breakup can feel painful, but it creates space
- 24:35for a new relationship. And the new relationship after
- 24:41you break up from weed is a healthier relationship with
- 24:45yourself to allow that to feel that that is who you are and
- 24:55that is who you are becoming. Step into that future version of
- 25:03you, perhaps years from now, and feel how good it feels to have
- 25:09not used weed for many years. And you don't miss it.
- 25:15You can think nostalgically about how it used to be part of
- 25:19your life but just isn't anymore.
- 25:25And all of this comes with a decisive decision that you are
- 25:30already comfortable making. The ritual is just a symbolic
- 25:38representation of a decision you've already made.
- 25:47It's time to leave this future and return to the present with a
- 25:51new sense of clarity. Determination and alignment that
- 25:56this is just who you are now, weed free and evolved.
- 26:05So take a deep breath in through your nose and out through your
- 26:10nose. Just wiggle your fingers and
- 26:13wiggle your toes. Connect and calibrate into the
- 26:16here and the now as I now count from 1:00 to 10:00 to awaken
- 26:23you. Starting to count 123 waking up
- 26:30456 more alert 7-8. Open your eyes.
- 26:34Open your eyes 910. Wide awake.
- 26:38Wide awake. Wide awake.
