Transcript
- 0:00What's up everybody, Charlie Marlowe here, your favorite
- 0:03casual NASCAR fan here to break down the weekend at Talladega.
- 0:08We're going to talk about, of course, Carson, host of ours,
- 0:11first ever NASCAR Cup win riding the dente chili style.
- 0:16Cletus McFarland almost wins the ARCA race, finishing second.
- 0:21And then also we got to discuss the NASCAR leadership changes
- 0:25with Steve O'Donnell becoming the new president, CEO and Ben
- 0:29Kennedy the new COO, chief operating officer.
- 0:33OK, first we got to start with the Cup race, though, Carson
- 0:38Hosavar. How awesome was that the win?
- 0:42You knew what was going to happen this year.
- 0:44Carson Hosavar was due, especially early in the year,
- 0:50running up front. It just seemed like this was the
- 0:53year that Carson Josefar was going to get his first couple
- 0:56in. I remember doing the podcast
- 0:57with Mark Martin before the year started.
- 1:01This was right after Ryan Priest won the clash and we were saying
- 1:05who's going to be the first time Cup winners this year?
- 1:09So Priest had just won the class.
- 1:11We're thinking, could Ryan Priest win a Cup race?
- 1:14But we mentioned this feels like a year where Ty Gibbs wins a
- 1:18race. He already has.
- 1:20This feels like a year where Carson host of our wins a race.
- 1:22He just did. Then I also mentioned maybe
- 1:27Connor Zillich on a road course, but who track house not doing
- 1:32too well this year across the board and Connor Zillich not
- 1:37running well. So that probably won't happen.
- 1:40But host of our gets his first ever NASCAR Cup win.
- 1:44You had an exciting finish there after the wreck.
- 1:48What was it? Was it like 3 or 4 to go?
- 1:50It wasn't. It wasn't an overtime finish,
- 1:52but 3 or 4 to go. Really good finish.
- 1:55I know a lot of people didn't like the race.
- 1:57The Jeff Gluck poll, I looked at it, it was around 50505347 in
- 2:02terms of liking the race. People didn't like the fuel
- 2:06saving, didn't like the two by two.
- 2:08I've always said this about the Jeff Gluck poll.
- 2:11You can have a good race with a bad finish.
- 2:15You can have a bad race with a great finish.
- 2:19In this case, it sure looked like this was a race that people
- 2:23didn't like at all throughout the race, but a great finish
- 2:26because Carson Hosavar won. And then he did the awesome
- 2:30burnout where at first you were like, what is this dude doing?
- 2:34And, you know, hey, Carson Hosavar, he goes by the beat of
- 2:39his own drum, right? I mean, he could have hurt
- 2:41himself, which is why it was cool.
- 2:44And it took him a while to basically figure it out.
- 2:47But once he did, and he's doing the the lap kind of the Polish
- 2:52victory lap, but he's outside of the car waving to the fans.
- 2:56He's beaten on the top of the car, almost caught a beer.
- 3:00If he'd have caught the beer and chugged it, it would have been
- 3:03one of the coolest things we've ever seen.
- 3:04It was already one of the coolest things we've ever seen.
- 3:06And then he even hit the wall at the end.
- 3:08I mean, he bumps the wall. So look, this was dangerous,
- 3:11which is the reason it was cool. And Steve O'Donnell said, hey,
- 3:14we're not going to ban that. You thought, no, they're
- 3:16probably going to ban this. Steve O'Donnell said during the
- 3:19press conference, they're not going to ban it.
- 3:21So that's pretty cool. And we will talk about Steve
- 3:23O'Donnell in a second. So Carson Hosovar, he's good for
- 3:27business, man. He's good for business.
- 3:30He's interesting. He says interesting things.
- 3:34He has a big personality. He's a Michigan guy.
- 3:37I'm from northern Ohio, lived in Michigan three times, so I root
- 3:41for him. NASCAR needs personalities, They
- 3:44need characters. Carson Ho Savar is one of those
- 3:47guys. So we need him to keep winning.
- 3:49That was pretty awesome. And in his post game, post game,
- 3:54I'm a sticking ball guy. OK, post race, Cletus calls him
- 3:58up. We posted that video on Kenny
- 3:59Wallace YouTube channel. Cletus calls him up to
- 4:02congratulate him. That was pretty cool.
- 4:04This was, we always joke old people.
- 4:06You're you're Cletus engagement farming.
- 4:08OK, we all know you post a video about Cletus, you get tons of
- 4:12views. It is what it is, OK?
- 4:14We all do it. But also, he's part of the
- 4:15story. He was the story.
- 4:17Let's be real. The story of the weekend at
- 4:20Talladega was Carson Hosovar and Cletus McFarlane.
- 4:24I don't care if you're a fan of any of those guys either.
- 4:26Those guys, they were the show. They were the show.
- 4:30Carson wins on Sunday. Cletus almost wins the ARCA race
- 4:35on Saturday. He's leading right there at the
- 4:39end. He loses it, but he finishes
- 4:41second. Crowds going nuts.
- 4:45Let me tell you something. I feel like a fire Marshall
- 4:48Bill. That's an old refresh.
- 4:49Let me tell you, champion. I'm 43 years old in living
- 4:53color. Back in the day, Fire Marshall
- 4:56Bill was a character played by Jim Carrey.
- 4:58You got to look that up. Let me tell you, champion.
- 5:01Fire Marshall Bill. Now I'm making myself laugh.
- 5:04But if you're probably under 40 or 35, you don't remember in
- 5:07living color, but you should look that up.
- 5:10Let me tell you something I don't.
- 5:11Remember what I was talking about now because I'm making
- 5:13myself laugh about Fire Marshall Bill.
- 5:15Anyway, Cletus was the show. It was awesome.
- 5:21Look, Cletus belongs 100% in ARCA.
- 5:25Cletus is probably going to win an ARCA race.
- 5:27Cletus said what he's going to try to win a try to run a full
- 5:30ARCA season next year. I would think Cletus will win an
- 5:34ARCA race at some point and I think this proved to people he
- 5:39does belong. Did he go a little too quick
- 5:42into O'Reilly? Yes, he probably did.
- 5:45And he didn't get approved for Talladega, but he still became
- 5:48the show at Talladega. He's going to run that
- 5:51O'reilly's car end of May at Nashville and I'm guessing now
- 5:56he'll probably, I'm guessing he'll probably be approved down
- 5:59the line for a Daytona potentially in in the fall.
- 6:03I haven't looked at the schedule of of what of what ARCA is
- 6:07running, but I'm guessing good chance now that NASCAR approves
- 6:13Cletus for more in the O'Reilly series moving forward after a
- 6:17really good showing second place in ARCA.
- 6:21Oh, now I remember what I was talking about.
- 6:24I was saying, let me tell you something.
- 6:25I don't pay attention to ARCA. I would never I did this last
- 6:28week, I told you this last week, I would never pay attention to
- 6:30ARCA if Cletus wasn't in it. I say at the beginning of every
- 6:33video, I'm I'm the casual NASCAR fan.
- 6:36Cletus is bringing non traditional NASCAR fans or old
- 6:39NASCAR fans that used to be fans that kind of got got sick of
- 6:44what was going on the last several years.
- 6:46He's bringing them back. We're talking about freaking
- 6:49ARCA. One of the biggest stories of
- 6:51the weekend was ARCA and that's because Cletus MacFarlane.
- 6:54So there you go. OK, host of our Cletus.
- 6:59And now the NASCAR leadership changes.
- 7:01So you have Steve O'Donnell. Steve O'Donnell, I think he's
- 7:04like 57. Don't quote me on that, 57,
- 7:06whatever it is. Ben Kennedy, I should have
- 7:09looked this up. He's in his 30s.
- 7:11I'm 43. He's much younger than me.
- 7:13What is he? Is he like 33?
- 7:14Is he 35? Respond right here, as Kenny
- 7:17Wallace says. But I think this is big, even if
- 7:21it's just optics. And I say that because Jim
- 7:25France is, I think he's 8081 Jim France stepping down as
- 7:30president, CEO. He'll still be on the board as
- 7:33chairman. And if you know the chain of
- 7:34command, the chairman still technically runs the show.
- 7:38So is he still going to be running the show behind the
- 7:40scenes like the Wizard of Oz? Maybe.
- 7:43But I do think optics matter in this particular issue because
- 7:49look, NASCAR did not look good in the lawsuit.
- 7:52And Jim France, look, his family built NASCAR, but he's 81 years
- 7:57old. And you can see why he could
- 7:59come across as some people, some young people, as kind of an old
- 8:03fuddy Duddy, an old geezer. And I say that with respect, but
- 8:05just an older dude. I I think it helps NASCAR, even
- 8:09if it's just optics, even if Jim France is still running the
- 8:14show, which I don't know if he is, but the fact that you have
- 8:17Steve O'Donnell, who's a young 57, whatever he is, Ben
- 8:20Kennedy's freaking in his 30s. I do think this comes across as
- 8:25turning over a new leaf for NASCAR.
- 8:28Just kind of just kind of accepting the new world of of
- 8:33media and entertainment, accepting A Cletus, as I said
- 8:39earlier, Steve O'Donnell saying, hey, we want our guys to have
- 8:41personalities, host of our he's a personality.
- 8:44They're not going to ban his, his burnout celebration.
- 8:47It's fun. Is it dangerous?
- 8:49Yes. Is it fun and cool?
- 8:52Yes. Is that why it's cool because
- 8:55it's dangerous? Yes.
- 8:57Clearly we don't want Carson Hosevar to fall out of the car.
- 8:59That could be catastrophic. But this is a dangerous sport
- 9:03also. And I know a couple races go
- 9:06month or so ago, Ben Kennedy and the NASCAR staff, they went to a
- 9:10NASCAR race as fans. And look, I've been I'm I'm
- 9:14jaded. I've worked in media for like 20
- 9:17plus years and, and that was all about PR.
- 9:20But again, I think it matters. I think, I think PR matters for
- 9:24NASCAR right now. What they put out there because
- 9:27fans were not happy the last several years with the playoff
- 9:31system. They're not happy just big
- 9:34picture with the Next Gen. car. They weren't happy with some of
- 9:37the stuff of, of drivers being robotic and, and not being able
- 9:41to have a personality and kind of getting away from what what
- 9:45NASCAR was, you know, a Southern base kind of redneck.
- 9:48I say that with love. A lot of NASCAR fans were not
- 9:52happy about a lot of the changes.
- 9:54And I just see Ben Kennedy, Steve O'Donnell as like a fresh
- 9:58new face. You know, Steve Phelps is gone.
- 10:01He made the comments about Richard Childress.
- 10:03He couldn't survive those. Jim France took a beating.
- 10:07The France family took a beating in the lawsuit.
- 10:09And I'm not saying this is happening because of the
- 10:11lawsuit, but I think I think the team's winning the lawsuit was
- 10:14actually good for for everybody involved, including NASCAR, big
- 10:18picture. NASCAR needed to change.
- 10:21And I just think you have this new fresh vision with a Steve
- 10:23O'Donnell, with a Ben Kennedy. And what I was saying was, so
- 10:27when the NASCAR team went to the track as fans, you know, every
- 10:30business owner does this. By the way, I, I do this, I have
- 10:33rental properties. If you have a listing on VRBO
- 10:36for a short term rental or whatever, you, you call, you
- 10:39call in, you try to book it. You, you see, what's the process
- 10:42like with people who are answering the phones, right?
- 10:45Just to make sure everything is good, just like you're a
- 10:47customer. Everybody does this.
- 10:49So that that's APR thing. But again, I'm not I'm not mad
- 10:52about it because NASCAR needs this positive PR.
- 10:57If you look at those pictures from from those guys at the
- 10:59races, it looked like a lot of young people having fun, like a
- 11:02young staff of NASCAR, people that are ready to embrace the
- 11:06new world of racing and personalities and media and all
- 11:09that. So I think it's great that Steve
- 11:12O'donnell's now the CEO, Ben Kennedy's the COO.
- 11:16And again, if the O'donnell's 57, whatever he is, is he going
- 11:20to be the CEO for the next 8 years, whatever.
- 11:23I mean, retirement age 65, whatever it is, 6810 years, you
- 11:26got to think Ben Kennedy's going to take over after that when
- 11:29he's around 40 or so. That that sure looks to be the
- 11:33the the succession plan, the chain of command succession
- 11:39succession, not like seceding from the union succession like
- 11:43the great show was that Showtime really good show.
- 11:46My wife and I both like that. All right, I'm talking about TV
- 11:49shows and fire Marshall Bill. You know, it's time.
- 11:55I know how to get so funny. You got to look up fire Marshall
- 11:58Bill. But Saint Louis people, my
- 12:00sponsors, St. Louis lawn care,
- 12:02stllawncare.com. They'll cut your grass.
- 12:05They come and cut on Wednesdays. They'll do your mulch.
- 12:08They do landscaping. I got some Arbor Vita, a
- 12:11juniper, a bunch of boxwoods. They'll trim your boxwoods.
- 12:14You got Tim Jankerson my guy. Also has STL equipment, Saint
- 12:18Louis equipment, stlmowerrepair.com.
- 12:20Buy a mower, get your mower fix small engines, blowers,
- 12:23trimmers, all that. They got the special couple more
- 12:26days left in April. You have 15% off the Skag brand
- 12:32of mowers. You have up to 20% off select
- 12:35zero turn gravelymowers@stlmowerrepair.com.
- 12:40That's Saint Louis equipment and of course Triad Bank.
- 12:43I was talking earlier about my rental properties, all my rental
- 12:47property loans, the last like 6-7 years.
- 12:49At first I was going residential, then I found Triad
- 12:52Bank. Everything has been with them
- 12:54the last probably I think since 2020.
- 12:58I think since 2020, last 6-7 years.
- 13:02Excuse me, my guy Matthew Tobin hooks it up.
- 13:05I think we've had eight loans with Triad Bank Relationship
- 13:08based banking. You'll never realize how great
- 13:11your customer service is at Triad Bank until you leave your
- 13:14previous big National Bank and you realize they didn't even
- 13:17know who you were at Triad Bank. You're a friend.
- 13:20They have parties, they have a a March Madness party.
- 13:23Like, you know, the people you walk in, they got good candy,
- 13:25they got good drinks there, right?
- 13:28They got like ice cream. Sometimes they hook it up.
- 13:30Triad Bank. It's it's local relationship
- 13:32based banking, Frontenac. And I'm telling you, I'll never
- 13:36go anywhere else for my commercial loans, rental
- 13:38property business. Best thing I ever did was taking
- 13:40all my loans from a big National Bank that didn't care about me.
- 13:44You're talking to somebody here. You're talking to somebody in
- 13:45New York. They're never on the same page.
- 13:47You'll never have that a Triad bank.
- 13:49So there you go. What are we at about 14 minutes
- 13:52host of our wins. Awesome burnout, awesome.
- 13:56Cletus almost wins, finishes second, and still he's the
- 13:59second biggest story of the weekend besides Carson Hosovar.
- 14:04NASCAR leadership changes. I think it's great.
- 14:07I think it's NASCAR embracing the new world of racing and
- 14:11media and personality with Steve O'Donnell and Ben Kennedy, and I
- 14:15think it's awesome. So there you go, drop your
- 14:17comments. Thank you, guys.
- 14:18We're over 1000 subscribers. We're getting this bad boy
- 14:21monetized. We love it and I'll try to do
- 14:24one at least every week. All right, I'm busy with the
- 14:27Kenny Wallace doing all his stuff, but I'm going to try to
- 14:28do my own video at least every week if I can.
- 14:31So there you go. Love you all.
- 14:33Peace out. Word to your mother.
- 14:36Let me tell you something.
