- 1:22Speaker 1: in seventy five years. I want to remind you, Simon
- 1:27Speaker 1: and everybody else. I start doing my golf handicapping the
- 1:34Speaker 1: week of the Majors, and my handicapping consists of listen
- 1:38Speaker 1: to Sobl on links and locks. Read Sobl, read Matt
- 1:44Speaker 1: Vincenzi read Josh Perry. I put together a list based
- 1:49Speaker 1: on all their intel. I go into my Majors golf
- 1:53Speaker 1: pool with a variety of other people here at Action Network.
- 1:58Speaker 1: I have won for the past six Majors pools just
- 2:02Speaker 1: by doing that.
- 2:04Speaker 2: Now, the golf guys are red hot.
- 2:05Speaker 3: I told you I literally this offseason, I've been made
- 2:08Speaker 3: more money probably than I did during the NFL season
- 2:10Speaker 3: just betting golf, NASCAR and darts. I don't know what's
- 2:13Speaker 3: happening chat, but it's all working out right now.
- 2:16Speaker 1: Well, you know what, Leibov is going to come on
- 2:17Speaker 1: on a little bit. We should have Lebov talk a
- 2:19Speaker 1: little bit about the darts, because he did cover the
- 2:21Speaker 1: darts also presented by Bet three six five at MSG
- 2:25Speaker 1: this year, and no one loves the darts better than Lebov.
- 2:31Speaker 1: Before we get to Sobol, I've mentioned Bet three six

- 4:18Speaker 1: Links and Locks podcast Action Network senior writer on the
- 4:22Speaker 1: scene in Los Angeles. Soble, before we get to the
- 4:27Speaker 1: US Open, I know people want to get some action down.
- 4:31Speaker 1: Last week Shockwave News the PIF, which owns and operates Live,
- 4:42Speaker 1: merges with the PGA. There have been so many interesting
- 4:46Speaker 1: TikTok stories the past week about how this whole thing
- 4:51Speaker 1: came together. The players involved, Jimmy Dunn, a board member
- 4:54Speaker 1: at PGA, Michael Klein, part of the PGA contingent, Jay
- 4:58Speaker 1: Monahan flying around the world, eating breakfast at a hotel
- 5:03Speaker 1: in Venice, hoping he doesn't get recognized, to meet with
- 5:06Speaker 1: the head of PIF to close this deal. Give me
- 5:10Speaker 1: the three takeaways from the deal making that have been
- 5:15Speaker 1: most interesting to you.
- 5:17Speaker 4: I hope you meant, first of all, Chad, that these
- 5:19Speaker 4: are TikTok stories. Is in the timeline of what's going on,
- 5:22Speaker 4: not that we all have to get on TikTok to
- 5:24Speaker 4: follow these stories, because that might be the worst thing
- 5:27Speaker 4: to happen of this entire merger.
- 5:29Speaker 1: Interchangeable, inter changeable. This morning, I was having breakfast with
- 5:35Speaker 1: my wife, and my wife is always like saying to me,
- 5:39Speaker 1: you don't want to banter, but I like banter, like
- 5:41Speaker 1: she wants to chit chat sometimes. And so I've realized
- 5:45Speaker 1: that when I want to banter, it's like in the
- 5:47Speaker 1: morning first thing, or at night, like before we're going
- 5:50Speaker 1: to bed, I'm unloading on, you know, silly things from
- 5:53Speaker 1: the day. But those are the only two times she
- 5:56Speaker 1: actually is on her phone during the day. She's very
- 5:59Speaker 1: busy all day, and so she never wants to talk
- 6:02Speaker 1: to me then and she looks at me and she goes, look,
- 6:06Speaker 1: we're not banter compatible. Bear in mind, next week we're
- 6:11Speaker 1: celebrating our twenty fifth wedding anniversary. She's like, we're just
- 6:14Speaker 1: not banter compatible. You're on TikTok the whole freaking day.
- 6:18Speaker 1: I know you're on TikTok all day. Every chance you get,
- 6:21Speaker 1: you're gonna go on TikTok between a meeting or a
- 6:23Speaker 1: call or whatever. I'm not so this is my time,
- 6:26Speaker 1: so I don't want to talk. So if we can
- 6:28Speaker 1: get on TikTok and find the TikTok about the live
- 6:32Speaker 1: PGA deal, fantastic. Instead, I've got Jason Sober.
- 6:38Speaker 4: Yeah, well, I'm not doing the TikTok. If that's what's
- 6:41Speaker 4: coming out of this merger, then I'm moving on. But
- 6:44Speaker 4: three takeaways from three takeaways from what we've seen over
- 6:48Speaker 4: the past week. First of all, more questions than answer. Still,
- 6:52Speaker 4: even a week later, I still have plenty of questions
- 6:55Speaker 4: as to what's going on. Look, I got into this
- 6:58Speaker 4: business twenty years ago, bringing the PGA Tour because Chad,
- 7:02Speaker 4: I am qualified to watch other people play golf and
- 7:05Speaker 4: then afterwards, go, so it look like you played pretty good, huh?
- 7:09Speaker 4: And and they say yes, I played well, and I
- 7:12Speaker 4: go okay, cool, and I write something down about it.
- 7:14Speaker 4: And that's essentially what I'm qualified to do. It's not
- 7:17Speaker 4: very good. That said, once we start getting into antitrust
- 7:20Speaker 4: lawsuits and the Department of Justice and subpoenas and senators
- 7:25Speaker 4: looking into things. I'm like, like, way over my head,
- 7:28Speaker 4: but i know that my boss is gonna want me
- 7:30Speaker 4: looking into all this stuff. So I've got to get
- 7:32Speaker 4: much smarter about what's going on very very quickly, or
- 7:35Speaker 4: else I'm going to fall behind. So there's a lot
- 7:38Speaker 4: of that stuff still lingering. I still think that a
- 7:42Speaker 4: lot of this was precipitated by the fact that there
- 7:45Speaker 4: was litigation both sides. There was going to be a
- 7:48Speaker 4: discovery phase. The PGA tour looked at that discovery phase
- 7:51Speaker 4: and said, uh, we've got some things that we really
- 7:54Speaker 4: don't want getting out there and the public investment funds
- 7:57Speaker 4: that you know. Come to think of it, we actually
- 7:59Speaker 4: have a couple skeletons of the closet as well. We
- 8:02Speaker 4: may not want those things getting out publicly either. Hey,
- 8:05Speaker 4: why don't we start talking and see if we can
- 8:07Speaker 4: come to an agreement and we can all figure out
- 8:10Speaker 4: a way to move forward in this game of golf.
- 8:13Speaker 4: And the other thing I can tell you, I don't
- 8:14Speaker 4: know how many takeaways this is so far, I'm not counting,
- 8:16Speaker 4: but in case best too Okay, good, I got one more.
- 8:21Speaker 4: Here's a takeaway from everything we've learned. In case you
- 8:24Speaker 4: didn't know this, in case you thought golf is all
- 8:26Speaker 4: about it's a game of honor, and golf is about integrity,
- 8:29Speaker 4: and golf is about you know, at the professional level,
- 8:31Speaker 4: it's about you know, who plays the best and who wins.
- 8:34Speaker 4: I've got news for you, guys. Golf, much like business,
- 8:38Speaker 4: much like life, much like everything we've ever known, is
- 8:41Speaker 4: all about the benjamins. It's about the dollars. It's about money, money, money,
- 8:46Speaker 4: It's about the rials, so to speak. Because this is
- 8:50Speaker 4: what it's all about. This is what is precipitating everything
- 8:55Speaker 4: I've heard guestimations that the PGA Tour goold, double, triple,
- 9:00Speaker 4: quadruple invaluation with this new entity that's been formed. And
- 9:04Speaker 4: again it's funny. J Monahan, the PGA Tour Commissioner, and
- 9:07Speaker 4: the congratulations to the new CEO of whatever this for
- 9:12Speaker 4: profit entity is going to be. He was approved by
- 9:15Speaker 4: the board. The board, of course, is includes himself, Yasser
- 9:19Speaker 4: al Ramayan who did the deal for PIF, and Jimmy
- 9:22Speaker 4: Dunn and Ed Hurlahe who were on the PGA Tour
- 9:24Speaker 4: policy Board, who also put themselves on this board and
- 9:27Speaker 4: then hired J Monahan, So that's how that happened. But
- 9:30Speaker 4: J Monahan is said over the past week, I don't
- 9:32Speaker 4: know why everyone's calling it a merger. It is not
- 9:34Speaker 4: a merger. Well, it's probably because the press release that
- 9:37Speaker 4: was sent out to the media on Tuesday at ten
- 9:40Speaker 4: am last week said PGA Tour, DP World Tour and
- 9:43Speaker 4: Public Investment Fund merge Commercial Operations. Sorry, I don't know
- 9:47Speaker 4: where we got merger from. It was only in your
- 9:49Speaker 4: press release. So again that leads to maybe my last takeaway,
- 9:54Speaker 4: I don't know how many of this is. Maybe this
- 9:55Speaker 4: is my fourth takeaway out of three. But the fourth
- 9:58Speaker 4: takeaway is I'm not sure sure how I'm supposed to
- 10:01Speaker 4: report on this story. I'm not sure how anyone's supposed
- 10:03Speaker 4: to know what's going on. If the parties involved themselves
- 10:06Speaker 4: have absolutely no clue right now. Either they're saying, don't
- 10:09Speaker 4: call it a merger when they're sitting out press releases
- 10:12Speaker 4: literally calling it a merger. They're still in the dark.
- 10:14Speaker 4: We're certainly in the dark.
- 10:16Speaker 1: Hey, sobo, as you've seen players come in, have you
- 10:19Speaker 1: spoken to guys. I know it's still early there. What
- 10:23Speaker 1: is sort of the reacts you're getting now that where
- 10:26Speaker 1: a week later and a lot of the hurt feelings
- 10:29Speaker 1: and anger starts to subside as they reckon with reality.
- 10:34Speaker 4: The PGA tour players are very, very angry at j Monahan.
- 10:37Speaker 4: There was a player meeting last week at the RBC
- 10:40Speaker 4: Canadian Open where a large majority we're not just mad
- 10:43Speaker 4: at Jay, but calling for his resignation. They were that mad. Now,
- 10:47Speaker 4: I tend to believe that they get it. For the
- 10:51Speaker 4: year and a half, Monahan and others with a PGA
- 10:53Speaker 4: tour asked them to be loyal. They preach loyalty, they
- 10:57Speaker 4: preached devotion, they preached integrity, and then all sudden Jay
- 11:00Speaker 4: just did the exact opposite of everything he had said
- 11:04Speaker 4: they should do, and he went behind their backs, didn't
- 11:07Speaker 4: tell them this was gonna happen, and all of a
- 11:08Speaker 4: sudden makes a deal and tries to go back to
- 11:11Speaker 4: them and says, well, you know, things have changed. I
- 11:15Speaker 4: think it's very hypocritical of him. In fact, jamon And
- 11:18Speaker 4: has said over the past week, hey, I know you
- 11:21Speaker 4: can call me a hypocrite. A lot of people in
- 11:22Speaker 4: a response and said yep, sure, Ken definitely gonna do that,
- 11:26Speaker 4: and so I think he understands the situation that he
- 11:29Speaker 4: has put himself in. But again, this was about money.
- 11:33Speaker 4: It was about the discovery phase of the litigation. This
- 11:36Speaker 4: was about trying to save yourself as opposed to I
- 11:40Speaker 4: don't know if it was ever going to go under,
- 11:42Speaker 4: but there were signs that the PGA Tour was going
- 11:44Speaker 4: to be hurting. Look, they had to infuse a lot
- 11:47Speaker 4: more money into these elevated designated events that they've started
- 11:52Speaker 4: playing this year, essentially in retaliation to live Basically, how
- 11:56Speaker 4: can we keep our best players? Well, we'll pay him
- 11:58Speaker 4: a lot more for playing in these big events. Well,
- 12:01Speaker 4: that money wasn't coming from the sponsors. That was coming
- 12:03Speaker 4: from reserves. Once you start burning up all the money
- 12:06Speaker 4: in reserves, there's not a whole lot left. And so
- 12:08Speaker 4: they needed money and this was the easiest way for
- 12:11Speaker 4: them to get money was to partner with him. As
- 12:14Speaker 4: for what the players are saying now, I've had players
- 12:17Speaker 4: on both sides, PGA Tour players and players would live
- 12:20Speaker 4: golf who are texting me going, hey, what do you know?
- 12:23Speaker 4: What can you tell us? And I'm like, I don't know.
- 12:25Speaker 4: I was gonna ask you the same thing. It really is.
- 12:27Speaker 4: I Mean, I hate coming on shows like this one
- 12:30Speaker 4: where I'm like, I don't know a whole lot and
- 12:32Speaker 4: anything we know is just or we think we know
- 12:34Speaker 4: is just speculation. But quite honestly, that's the case. And
- 12:39Speaker 4: if jame Onahan, if Yasar elver Mayan, if Jimmy Dunn,
- 12:42Speaker 4: we're sitting right next to me right now, and we
- 12:44Speaker 4: had them and we're asking them questions. A lot of
- 12:46Speaker 4: the questions I don't think they could answer right now either,
- 12:48Speaker 4: because I don't think they have a great plan for
- 12:51Speaker 4: what this is going to be. Three six, twelve months
- 12:54Speaker 4: from now.
- 12:55Speaker 1: US Open is back in LA first time in seventy
- 12:58Speaker 1: five years. I feel like whenever there is an event
- 13:04Speaker 1: in LA that is a major event, it feels a
- 13:08Speaker 1: little more special, like there's something a little more glamorous.
- 13:12Speaker 1: It felt that way for the Super Bowl, It's felt
- 13:15Speaker 1: that way for NBA Finals. Are you feeling that right
- 13:18Speaker 1: now back in La?
- 13:20Speaker 4: I am Chad, And it's not just in LA. This place,
- 13:23Speaker 4: if you haven't seen yet, we are like it's as
- 13:26Speaker 4: if they took Central Park in the middle of New
- 13:28Speaker 4: York City harved out a major championship golf course in
- 13:32Speaker 4: the middle of it, and played golf in the middle
- 13:34Speaker 4: of the city. I mean we are literally in the
- 13:36Speaker 4: foothills of Beverly Hills. The Beverly Hilton, one of the
- 13:39Speaker 4: most famous hotels in the city, is hovering over the
- 13:43Speaker 4: driving range right outside of where I'm sitting right now.
- 13:46Speaker 4: I mean, we are like smack dab in the city
- 13:49Speaker 4: Hollywood just down the street. So this isn't just well,
- 13:52Speaker 4: it's in La but La is a big place, and
- 13:53Speaker 4: it's kind of away from anything that would be a
- 13:57Speaker 4: touristy attraction or anything like that. This is right in
- 14:00Speaker 4: the middle of the city. I'm telling you, I just
- 14:01Speaker 4: went for a walk around this golf course a little
- 14:03Speaker 4: while ago. This place is special. I really hope it
- 14:06Speaker 4: shows out on TV because in person, you walk around,
- 14:09Speaker 4: You're like, man, this place is cool. It's, to an extent,
- 14:13Speaker 4: the exact opposite we saw last month at o Kill
- 14:17Speaker 4: for the PGA Championship. I walked around O Kill I said, man,
- 14:21Speaker 4: this course is really really difficult. It's immaculate. It's in
- 14:25Speaker 4: great shape for a major championship, and me, as a
- 14:28Speaker 4: seven handicap, I want absolutely no part of this because
- 14:32Speaker 4: I would lose my mind. I would be I would
- 14:35Speaker 4: be insane trying to play this golf course because it's
- 14:38Speaker 4: just way too hard. I walk around this place here
- 14:41Speaker 4: LACC and I go it's really hard, but man, it
- 14:45Speaker 4: looks fun. I would love to go play this golf course.
- 14:48Speaker 4: I don't know if they'd let me play because I
- 14:50Speaker 4: usually wear shorts, and I might have some music playing,
- 14:52Speaker 4: and I might take my phone out at times, and
- 14:54Speaker 4: they don't let you do any of those things here,
- 14:57Speaker 4: so I don't know i'd quite fit in. But you guys,
- 15:00Speaker 4: this is a really really cool spot. It's rustic, it's natural.
- 15:04Speaker 4: There's nothing artificial looking. A lot of times we watch
- 15:07Speaker 4: a major championship on TV and from the blue dye
- 15:10Speaker 4: that they put in the water to you know, making
- 15:12Speaker 4: the grass a little greener than it was before that,
- 15:15Speaker 4: it all just looks a little unnatural. This place is
- 15:19Speaker 4: as natural as it comes. And I'm really excited about
- 15:22Speaker 4: this week again. It's another chance to at least focus
- 15:26Speaker 4: on golf inside the ropes as opposed to everything else
- 15:29Speaker 4: that's going on in the professional golf world.
- 15:31Speaker 2: Right now. Now, I could give us little course preview.
- 15:34Speaker 3: Is there a golfer you think this is going to
- 15:36Speaker 3: really care to because it's such a unique place like
- 15:38Speaker 3: way you're talking about it, I feel like that's gonna
- 15:40Speaker 3: give an edge a certain type of golfer. Is there
- 15:42Speaker 3: anything that pops out to you about this golf course
- 15:44Speaker 3: and you know, previewing it for what players it could
- 15:46Speaker 3: be advantaged too.
- 15:48Speaker 4: Yeah, So Simon, we usually look at specific metrics where
- 15:51Speaker 4: we might go, hey, it's a US Open, you've got
- 15:54Speaker 4: to keep it in the fairway, and hey, look that's
- 15:56Speaker 4: not a bad thing. It's better to be in the
- 15:57Speaker 4: fairway than in the rough. And boy, you've got to
- 16:00Speaker 4: be a good ball striker. You want to hit it
- 16:01Speaker 4: on the greens. Yeah, sure, better to be on the
- 16:03Speaker 4: greens than in the rough around the greens. So sure
- 16:06Speaker 4: those are all given, But there's not one of those
- 16:08Speaker 4: metrics where I look at I would say seventy to
- 16:11Speaker 4: seventy five percent of PGA Tour events, the number one
- 16:14Speaker 4: metric I'm looking at is strokes gained approach shots, where
- 16:16Speaker 4: I'm looking for that second shot into the greens, how
- 16:19Speaker 4: players have been hitting their irons lately? Going into that one,
- 16:23Speaker 4: I would say about fifteen to twenty percent of the
- 16:26Speaker 4: events I'm looking at off the team numbers, like, hey,
- 16:29Speaker 4: if you can set yourself up with some long straight
- 16:32Speaker 4: drives three point thirty in the fairway, you're going to
- 16:34Speaker 4: be in really good shape to make some birdies on
- 16:37Speaker 4: this golf course. There, I'd say five to ten percent
- 16:41Speaker 4: might become essentially birdie fest, where hey, the best putter
- 16:45Speaker 4: is gonna win. Everyone's gonna hit the fairway, everyone's gonna
- 16:47Speaker 4: hit a green regulation on these big wide resort golf courses,
- 16:51Speaker 4: So whoever putt's best wins. We're looking at putting stats.
- 16:55Speaker 4: I'm not sure that I've ever looked at a golf
- 16:57Speaker 4: course where I look at strokes gained round the greens
- 17:01Speaker 4: as maybe the most important metric this week, and I
- 17:04Speaker 4: think you're just gonna have to get up and down
- 17:06Speaker 4: from everywhere. It's not gonna be a very low scoring
- 17:08Speaker 4: golf tournament. I think something certainly in the single digits
- 17:12Speaker 4: under par, maybe even four or five under par, is
- 17:14Speaker 4: going to win this golf tournament. And so what I
- 17:17Speaker 4: extrapolate from that is it's all about creativity this week.
- 17:21Speaker 4: I look at LACC as a palette. I want the
- 17:24Speaker 4: guys who are artistic in nature. I don't want the
- 17:27Speaker 4: players who are essentially painted by number, who just kind
- 17:29Speaker 4: of plod their way one spot to the next and
- 17:32Speaker 4: hit these stock shots. There are no stock shots on
- 17:35Speaker 4: this golf course. With the USGA is trying to do guys,
- 17:39Speaker 4: they will change up the yardage on different holes every day,
- 17:42Speaker 4: so there's a it's getting a lot of social media play.
- 17:46Speaker 4: The eleventh goal playing two hundred and ninety yards is
- 17:48Speaker 4: a par three. Now they're gonna move it up and
- 17:50Speaker 4: play it two twenty one day, move it back to
- 17:52Speaker 4: two sixty, back to two ninety. They're gonna make the
- 17:55Speaker 4: players think all the time. What they don't want is
- 17:58Speaker 4: a player who grabs a nine iron as he's walking
- 18:00Speaker 4: down the fairway. I got this standard nine iron in
- 18:03Speaker 4: no big deal. They want the players fussing over every
- 18:07Speaker 4: single shot, trying to figure out it's as much a
- 18:10Speaker 4: mental exercise as it is a physical and technical exercise.
- 18:14Speaker 4: For all of those reasons, I want the players who
- 18:16Speaker 4: are the most artistic in nature, who are the most creative,
- 18:20Speaker 4: and that leads to two on the top of my list.
- 18:22Speaker 4: I've got Cameron Smith, who's been playing on liv Golf,
- 18:25Speaker 4: but we saw him win last year at the Open. Championship.
- 18:28Speaker 4: He was second in strokes game putting last month at
- 18:31Speaker 4: okill for the PGA Championship. And then, of course Jordan Spieth,
- 18:34Speaker 4: who is the game's pre eminent magician right now, who
- 18:38Speaker 4: can take a double bogie and turn it into a
- 18:42Speaker 4: par at a moment's notice, and we've seen him do
- 18:44Speaker 4: it so many times over the year. So I'm taking
- 18:46Speaker 4: those kind of players. If you guys don't want to
- 18:49Speaker 4: listen to me. We had a segment on the radio yesterday.
- 18:52Speaker 4: I was with my friend Gary Williams, who was co
- 18:54Speaker 4: hosting my show Hitting the Green on series XM PGA
- 18:57Speaker 4: Tour Radio with me, and I said, all right, let's
- 19:00Speaker 4: down our top five most creative artistic players and guys
- 19:04Speaker 4: that we think could play well. We had four of
- 19:06Speaker 4: the five same names. We both had Cameron Smith Jordan
- 19:09Speaker 4: Spieth at the top of our list. We each had
- 19:12Speaker 4: Justin Thomas and Scottie Scheffler. He had Patrick Reid, who
- 19:14Speaker 4: I do like a lot. This week, I had Ricky
- 19:16Speaker 4: Fowler rounding it out. But there's no real mysteries here.
- 19:19Speaker 4: There's no real, you know, difference of opinion in who
- 19:23Speaker 4: the most artistic players are. So if indeed the course
- 19:26Speaker 4: plays to creativity. Those are the guys we want to
- 19:29Speaker 4: look at.
- 19:30Speaker 1: So you mentioned the mental part of it. It's going
- 19:33Speaker 1: to be a jigsaw puzzle. It's gonna be the kind
- 19:35Speaker 1: of course where the USGA is trying to get people
- 19:38Speaker 1: to have to think about every shot. Who does whose
- 19:44Speaker 1: strengths does that play to?
- 19:47Speaker 4: Yeah, so again I'm looking at Cameron Smith, I'm looking
- 19:50Speaker 4: at Jordan Speith. If we want to go further down
- 19:52Speaker 4: the list, Patrick Reid is a player who we've seen
- 19:55Speaker 4: win major championships in the past. He's a past Masters champion,
- 19:59Speaker 4: really good around the greens, and so he's at eighty
- 20:02Speaker 4: to one all the live players, Chad, It's very interesting.
- 20:04Speaker 4: Even though Brooks KEEPKA one last month, other than Brooks himself,
- 20:08Speaker 4: all the live players are still a few points undervalued
- 20:11Speaker 4: in the marketplace. I think so, like Cameron Smith, Patrick
- 20:15Speaker 4: Reid is probably underpriced right now, and so I find
- 20:20Speaker 4: him at eighty to one in most books, and I
- 20:22Speaker 4: think that's a really good number on a guy who's
- 20:24Speaker 4: proven he can win a major championship at this type
- 20:26Speaker 4: of place. The other specialist, if you will, that you
- 20:30Speaker 4: might want to look at guys who play their best
- 20:32Speaker 4: golf on the West Coast. I'll give you a few names,
- 20:34Speaker 4: not really for outrights, but just guys who either grew
- 20:37Speaker 4: up on the West Coast or tend to play well
- 20:39Speaker 4: out here. Sahi Figala, who's going to be an absolute star.
- 20:43Speaker 4: This kid's gonna be a top ten golfer in the
- 20:45Speaker 4: world within the next year or two. Andrew Putnam is
- 20:49Speaker 4: a guy who played really well at the Memorial Tournament
- 20:51Speaker 4: two weeks ago, now comes back to friendlier confines. Justin
- 20:55Speaker 4: Suh has played some very good golf on the West Coast.
- 20:58Speaker 4: Patrick Rogers, I've heard it has played maybe more golf
- 21:01Speaker 4: here than any other player in the field. Remember, most
- 21:03Speaker 4: players have never seen this golf course before. Some there
- 21:07Speaker 4: are a few Max Homer, John Ram played the twenty
- 21:10Speaker 4: thirteen PAC twelve Championship year that's a decade ago. There
- 21:14Speaker 4: are a few others more Kawas Scheffler played the twenty
- 21:17Speaker 4: seventeen Walker Cup that lasted a few days. Other than that,
- 21:20Speaker 4: these guys haven't seen this golf course. They haven't been
- 21:23Speaker 4: here before, So everyone is trying to figure that puzzle
- 21:25Speaker 4: out right now.
- 21:27Speaker 1: Yeah, but you spoke to creativity. Are guys like Patrick Reid,
- 21:35Speaker 1: Cam Smith, Jordan Spieth. Are those the guys who you
- 21:39Speaker 1: would say are the most mentally tough on the tour?
- 21:43Speaker 1: Like if if they're if someone isn't as creative but
- 21:46Speaker 1: they're really mentally tough, will that make up for it
- 21:48Speaker 1: for them? And if so, who are those players?
- 21:50Speaker 4: It's very possible. Look number one on the mentally tough
- 21:53Speaker 4: list right now Strokes gained mental toughness. If we want
- 21:55Speaker 4: to turn this into a stat, is brooks Kepka. I mean,
- 21:58Speaker 4: brooks Kepka shows up, he's major championships, and I say
- 22:02Speaker 4: it seemingly before every major championship that we sit here
- 22:05Speaker 4: for a week beforehand trying to look at well, I
- 22:07Speaker 4: kind of like this stat and I kind of like
- 22:09Speaker 4: these guys, and it might all come down to, all right,
- 22:11Speaker 4: let's start the pod. Who do you like brooks Kopka?
- 22:13Speaker 4: Why because he wins at major championships, plays his best
- 22:16Speaker 4: golf every single time? Boom, that's it. I mean, we
- 22:19Speaker 4: don't have to spend twenty five minutes breaking down the
- 22:22Speaker 4: US Open. We can spend ten seconds and say, brooks Koepka,
- 22:24Speaker 4: he's really good at majors. He's playing this week he's
- 22:27Speaker 4: mentally tough, he's really good at golf. It might be him,
- 22:29Speaker 4: and it very well could be him. I did a
- 22:31Speaker 4: ranking for us at the Action Network yesterday of the
- 22:35Speaker 4: top tier of the field, and I had Brooks kept
- 22:38Speaker 4: getting number five, and what I wrote about him was,
- 22:40Speaker 4: he might be the only guy I could list at
- 22:42Speaker 4: number five and legitimately has a case of I feel
- 22:47Speaker 4: like I'm getting I'm getting doubted. I'm gonna put a
- 22:50Speaker 4: chip on my shoulder. I'll put this up with a
- 22:51Speaker 4: refrigerator because you guys are doubting me and don't think
- 22:54Speaker 4: I can do it again. I wasn't trying to demean
- 22:57Speaker 4: Brooks Kepkin anyway, but he certainly to go out and
- 23:00Speaker 4: win again this week, because yes, mental toughness is going
- 23:05Speaker 4: to be a big key this week as well.
- 23:07Speaker 1: All Right, I want to I wanna tell people who
- 23:09Speaker 1: are listening, uh, your top twenty five, And if anyone
- 23:14Speaker 1: who's in the pool with me is listening, yeah, you
- 23:17Speaker 1: can assume that some people on this list will be
- 23:19Speaker 1: people that I choose. And I'm not afraid to reveal
- 23:22Speaker 1: my secrets because I keep winning anyways. Cameron Smith number one,
- 23:26Speaker 1: Jordan Speth number two, Scottie Scheffler number three, Patrick Cantlay
- 23:31Speaker 1: number four, Keepka five, Fee now six forty to one
- 23:36Speaker 1: right now, Xander Schoffley seven, Patrick Reid eight, Rombo nine,
- 23:45Speaker 1: Ryan Fox, Ryan Fox number ten, Simon, go ahead, what sober?
- 23:54Speaker 4: What say it? If you'd like me to list chalk
- 23:57Speaker 4: A list chalk, that's not what the Action Network is about.
- 24:00Speaker 4: Oh listen of course.
- 24:01Speaker 1: By the way, by the way, don't be defensive. I
- 24:05Speaker 1: was actually doing this for a reason because Simon might
- 24:09Speaker 1: have a question about long shots, and I think it's
- 24:11Speaker 1: interesting that you have Ryan Fox at one hundred and
- 24:15Speaker 1: thirty to one at number ten, before Rory McElroy at
- 24:18Speaker 1: fifteen to one at number eleven, or Justin Thomas at
- 24:21Speaker 1: fifty to one number twelve. So I was teeing up
- 24:24Speaker 1: my friend Simon by using your very good content to
- 24:29Speaker 1: do that.
- 24:30Speaker 3: Yeah, chat its me so well, Jason, I just want
- 24:32Speaker 3: long shots.
- 24:33Speaker 2: I'm here.
- 24:33Speaker 3: I love Brooks. That was incredible what we've seen, but
- 24:37Speaker 3: I want crazy long shots. I would love to hear
- 24:39Speaker 3: who you like for the long shots because I'm addicted
- 24:42Speaker 3: to it. I think it was Hideki who I head on?
- 24:44Speaker 3: What was it two years ago?
- 24:45Speaker 2: Now? Was that the Masters he won.
- 24:48Speaker 3: That was one of those where it's like, all right,
- 24:50Speaker 3: if I can get fifty to one and a guy
- 24:52Speaker 3: like a decy, I need to form more, find more
- 24:54Speaker 3: diamonds than a rough. So I'm addicted to it. Who's
- 24:56Speaker 3: your favorite long shot for the US Open this year?
- 25:00Speaker 4: Ers, Well, Simon, you're talking to a guy who's hit
- 25:02Speaker 4: Emiliano Grillo and Nick Taylor as long shots into the
- 25:06Speaker 4: last three weeks. In between, I had Victor Hovlin but
- 25:08Speaker 4: and he won, but he was It's been three in
- 25:11Speaker 4: a row. So thank you want to point that out, Yes,
- 25:13Speaker 4: you're welcome. That said, when you're looking at long shots,
- 25:17Speaker 4: I think it's interesting in golf because there are long
- 25:19Speaker 4: shots who have win equity, and then there are long
- 25:22Speaker 4: shots who I think can finish in the top ten
- 25:25Speaker 4: make nice top ten props. Ryan Thok is a guy
- 25:27Speaker 4: I really like this week. I think he's gonna play
- 25:29Speaker 4: some really good golf. Can he win a US Open?
- 25:32Speaker 4: I'm not so sure that he's ready to do that.
- 25:34Speaker 4: Even though he's been around for a long time, he's
- 25:37Speaker 4: won all over the world. I just don't think that
- 25:39Speaker 4: he's gonna win. But I love him for top ten props.
- 25:41Speaker 4: As far as long shots that can win, I mentioned
- 25:44Speaker 4: Patrick Reid already. We know he can win a major championship.
- 25:47Speaker 4: I think his price is much too long in the marketplace.
- 25:50Speaker 4: I would have priced him at somewhere in the sixty
- 25:52Speaker 4: to sixty five to one range. Instead, he's trading at
- 25:55Speaker 4: about eighty to one right now, So I think that's
- 25:57Speaker 4: a really nice price right around that number, and maybe
- 26:00Speaker 4: even eighty five. Ninety to one is Seawu Kim. Seawau
- 26:03Speaker 4: Kim is a guy we've always known has a very
- 26:06Speaker 4: high ceiling, but one that doesn't know what he's rear
- 26:10Speaker 4: its head because he'll win and then he'll go away
- 26:13Speaker 4: for a year or so where he can that it's
- 26:16Speaker 4: a bottomless floor. And so when he's not winning, he's
- 26:20Speaker 4: shooting seventy nine's and missing the cut. He is That
- 26:23Speaker 4: has changed over the past year. He's now made eighteen
- 26:25Speaker 4: of twenty one cuts. This season, he's been top seven
- 26:29Speaker 4: and three of his last six starts. We know the
- 26:31Speaker 4: ceiling is still there, the floor has been elevated. What
- 26:34Speaker 4: I always say about outright long shot plays is look
- 26:38Speaker 4: if they finished second or they finished one hundred and
- 26:40Speaker 4: fifty six you lose the same amount of money. I
- 26:43Speaker 4: want a guy who has that high ceiling is a
- 26:45Speaker 4: long shot and can win. I think Seawoo Kim gives
- 26:48Speaker 4: you that ceiling this week.
- 26:51Speaker 1: I do want to read you right up for Ryan
- 26:53Speaker 1: Fox because it is just funny. This is when an
- 26:58Speaker 1: NFL team reaches for a third round projection in the
- 27:01Speaker 1: middle of the first round, and all the pundits are
- 27:03Speaker 1: like whoa, and then the guy turns out to be
- 27:05Speaker 1: a very functional key player for a long time. It's
- 27:08Speaker 1: a very good way to get me excited about Ryan Fox.
- 27:11Speaker 1: Not just now, but you know at the Travelers or
- 27:16Speaker 1: something where they say some guys are taking the week
- 27:19Speaker 1: off and Ryan Fox comes in and you know he
- 27:22Speaker 1: tears the place up.
- 27:24Speaker 4: Very well, could happen, Ryan Fox. The only thing that
- 27:27Speaker 4: has really broken his stride this year was the week
- 27:30Speaker 4: after the Masters played. His first Masters played pretty well.
- 27:33Speaker 4: He's finished top thirty and nine of his last ten starts.
- 27:38Speaker 4: After the Masters, he got pneumonia. So he went home,
- 27:41Speaker 4: I believe, back to New Zealand where he's from. And
- 27:43Speaker 4: then his wife had a second kid, and so I'm
- 27:46Speaker 4: hoping and I talked to him about it. I was like,
- 27:48Speaker 4: was the pneumonia gone before the kid arrived. He's like, yeah,
- 27:51Speaker 4: I think I was okay. So I mean everything is
- 27:54Speaker 4: okay in the Fox household. But in all seriousness, just
- 27:57Speaker 4: got his full PGA Tour member. He had to play
- 28:00Speaker 4: his way onto the PGA Tour this year. He was
- 28:02Speaker 4: able to do that. He's got a family at home
- 28:06Speaker 4: where he's got a young baby that you know, there's
- 28:09Speaker 4: been a lot of they call it the nappy factor,
- 28:12Speaker 4: where right after a golfer has a kid or a
- 28:15Speaker 4: second kid, all of a sudden, it's like, you know,
- 28:17Speaker 4: this weightlifted and they start playing better golf. I don't
- 28:21Speaker 4: discredit that. And so there's a lot of sort of
- 28:25Speaker 4: weightlifted from his shoulder, and it feels like a little
- 28:27Speaker 4: bit of a free role for him. Not to go
- 28:29Speaker 4: too deep on Ryan Fox, but I like players when
- 28:33Speaker 4: essentially they're not they're not playing with pressure on them.
- 28:36Speaker 4: They're playing with this nothing to lose attitude, because hey,
- 28:39Speaker 4: all all I can do is win some more. I
- 28:41Speaker 4: you know, nothing's gonna happen that's gonna hurt my career
- 28:44Speaker 4: this week.
- 28:45Speaker 1: Listen, by the way, it's not called a weight being lifted.
- 28:48Speaker 1: It's called Holy fuck, I got a kid and I
- 28:51Speaker 1: gotta make a living.
- 28:52Speaker 4: That's that's what that is.
- 28:54Speaker 1: And by the way, Ryan Fox a shout out to
- 28:56Speaker 1: my buddy Josh and Chicago, who is on a tear
- 28:58Speaker 1: as a golf better and like every week he's texting
- 29:01Speaker 1: me like his breakdowns and his legal pads of who
- 29:04Speaker 1: he's betting on and the long shots, and he loves
- 29:07Speaker 1: betting on golf. And Ryan Fox feels like the kind
- 29:12Speaker 1: of golfer my buddy Josh is going to go in on.
- 29:14Speaker 1: Sob I want to let you get back to work,
- 29:17Speaker 1: go and go and get listen. I know you got
- 29:19Speaker 1: a reservation to Dan Tana's. You got to get to
- 29:21Speaker 1: Dan Tana's corner table.
- 29:23Speaker 4: Is it good? We went past there yesterday. Is it
- 29:26Speaker 4: worth going Tana's.
- 29:27Speaker 1: It's like you go, you go for the vibe. Man.
- 29:32Speaker 1: It is like stepping into you're talking about when you're
- 29:35Speaker 1: talking about lacc and walking around and seeing the Beverly Hilton,
- 29:40Speaker 1: Like you walk into Dantanna's and you feel like you
- 29:46Speaker 1: are stepping into Hollywood glamour. It just I don't even
- 29:50Speaker 1: remember the food. It's just a good vibe.
- 29:54Speaker 4: Well, I can tell you and First of all, I'm
- 29:55Speaker 4: going to thank you because you're picking up dinner tonight.
- 29:58Speaker 4: I'm going out with Corner, Raybon and Trebby for dinner tonight,
- 30:02Speaker 4: so I appreciate it. Juys, thank you that well.
- 30:05Speaker 1: Go to Dantanas, have a good time. Maybe someone will
- 30:09Speaker 1: be listening to the podcast and they'll buy you a drink,
- 30:11Speaker 1: which just happened to me and Simon before. But that
- 30:14Speaker 1: is a dangerous crew. All I can tell you right now, Trebby,
- 30:17Speaker 1: who just had a second kid, and yourself, you are
- 30:20Speaker 1: not going to last all night with Corner or Raybon,
- 30:22Speaker 1: and you don't want to know where they're going after d'antana's.
- 30:24Speaker 1: Let's wrap it up though, all right, from what I
- 30:27Speaker 1: can From what I can see, you're like Cam Smith,
- 30:31Speaker 1: You like Jordan Speith, we might like Seewoo Kim is
- 30:36Speaker 1: a long shot. We might like Patrick Reid is a
- 30:38Speaker 1: long shot.
- 30:39Speaker 4: Correct. The one other player that I have bet in
- 30:42Speaker 4: all full disclosure, I've bet those four already, and I
- 30:46Speaker 4: put a little on Tony Feenow at forty to one.
- 30:48Speaker 4: Tony Fenau was my guy about six months ago, before
- 30:51Speaker 4: I knew much about this golf course. He just fit
- 30:54Speaker 4: the recent profile of US Open champions, big strong guy
- 30:58Speaker 4: you look at. This used to be the major championship
- 31:02Speaker 4: that the Corey Pavins, the Jim Fuoricks, when the Lee
- 31:04Speaker 4: Jansens could win, the short guys were accurate, kept it
- 31:07Speaker 4: in the fairway and on the greens. Over the last
- 31:09Speaker 4: seven or eight years, it's brooks Kepta, Dustin Johnson, Bryson, Deshambo,
- 31:13Speaker 4: John Rahm, Gary Woodland. Even last year Matt Fitzpatrick. Not
- 31:16Speaker 4: a big dude. He looks like he's twelve years old,
- 31:18Speaker 4: but a guy that had gained a lot of swing speed,
- 31:21Speaker 4: had gained some power going into that US Open. And
- 31:24Speaker 4: so I don't think we're gonna see the same US Open.
- 31:27Speaker 4: It's just not the same setup that we've seen over
- 31:30Speaker 4: the last seven or eight years. But Tony Fow fits
- 31:33Speaker 4: the profile of guys we've recently seen win US Opens,
- 31:38Speaker 4: just because at the beginning of the year I was
- 31:41Speaker 4: saying Tony Fenw even he's dropped a little bit in
- 31:43Speaker 4: my ranking, but I don't want to get off of
- 31:45Speaker 4: him because I've been on him for so long.
- 31:47Speaker 1: Here for even more US Open betting content, check out

- 32:05Speaker 1: You're welcome, Enjoy lacc Enjoy the US Open. Sobol, great
- 32:12Speaker 1: to see you. Thanks for coming on, Simon. We're going
- 32:15Speaker 1: to transition. We're going to transition to your favorite podcast guest,
- 32:23Speaker 1: because every time Mike Leboff comes on, I see like
- 32:27Speaker 1: the twinkle in your eye, and because he's talking about
- 32:34Speaker 1: all these things that are interesting to you. We're going
- 32:36Speaker 1: to talk a little bit about darts. You can tell
- 32:38Speaker 1: him how you did in your darts. We're going to
- 32:40Speaker 1: talk about Game five of the Stanley Cup Finals. We're
- 32:44Speaker 1: going to talk a little bit about previewing NHL Draft.
- 32:50Speaker 1: We got the Panthers and the Golden Knights. Leave offf
- 32:53Speaker 1: Welcome to the Favorites. Leab offf host of the unbelievably
- 33:00Speaker 1: popular Line Change the Hockey Betting podcast for the Action Network,
- 33:05Speaker 1: which you know, I'm gonna take a little bit of
- 33:07Speaker 1: credit here, not you, not Mitchell, not anybody else, because
- 33:12Speaker 1: we had you on before the season started, and we
- 33:14Speaker 1: promoted the podcast and the podcast had record numbers this year.
- 33:19Speaker 5: Yeah, I would say that all credit goes to you
- 33:22Speaker 5: once again, of course, and you begging for a hockey
- 33:26Speaker 5: podcast on the Action Network channels and I finally relented,
- 33:31Speaker 5: So you were right on both fronts.
- 33:35Speaker 1: I've got my finger on the pulse of what the
- 33:37Speaker 1: audience wants.
- 33:39Speaker 5: Yeah, that's true. And you know what I think they
- 33:40Speaker 5: want right now is a little Ashes talk for me
- 33:43Speaker 5: and Simon. We've got Crickets Crickets Best competition coming up.
- 33:48Speaker 5: It's an Ashes summer and Simon's native England. That's why
- 33:51Speaker 5: I'm dressed like I am. I'm pulling for Australia. I'll
- 33:54Speaker 5: be betting on Australia. They looked great.
- 33:56Speaker 1: Can you explain to people before we before every already
- 34:00Speaker 1: just disengaged from the podcast because we're going to go
- 34:02Speaker 1: from Test cricket to darts and NHL and when NHL
- 34:08Speaker 1: is like Big three your anchor leg you know you're
- 34:11Speaker 1: starting off with stuff that nobody gives a fuck about.
- 34:13Speaker 1: But let's explain to people what you are wearing if
- 34:17Speaker 1: they're not watching us on the YouTube.
- 34:20Speaker 5: Yeah, well, I've got my West Indies Cricket hat on
- 34:24Speaker 5: which you know it's not I'm pulling for Australia. But
- 34:27Speaker 5: I like to put West Indies in India in the
- 34:31Speaker 5: same bucket as Australia because they all want to beat
- 34:33Speaker 5: England because Simon's England. They colonized all these places and
- 34:38Speaker 5: cricket was a way for them to beat their colonizers
- 34:41Speaker 5: at something. That's why these countries all play cricket. And
- 34:46Speaker 5: the Ashes is England and Australia. It's every other year.
- 34:50Speaker 5: So the last one was in Australia in the Australian summer,
- 34:53Speaker 5: so December twenty twenty one that would be in Australia
- 34:56Speaker 5: just absolutely kicked England's ass. It was not close at all. Well,
- 35:00Speaker 5: but I mean it's different style cricket there because it's dry.
- 35:03Speaker 5: In England it's wet and the conditions changed. So it's
- 35:07Speaker 5: about a pick them and just remember like this is
- 35:11Speaker 5: five Test matches, so five five day matches and whoever
- 35:16Speaker 5: comes out on top gets to take home and earn
- 35:19Speaker 5: which is the trophy. I'm not kidding. It's like this big,
- 35:22Speaker 5: that's the size of your hand. That it's like the
- 35:25Speaker 5: opposite of the Stanley Cup. Like if you put the
- 35:27Speaker 5: Ashes next to the Stanley Cup, it would be hilarious.
- 35:30Speaker 5: And the reason it's called the Ashes is because in
- 35:33Speaker 5: the eighteen eighties an Australian writer, Australia beat England in
- 35:38Speaker 5: a Test match and he said that the body of
- 35:42Speaker 5: England cricket has been killed and the body has been
- 35:45Speaker 5: cremated and the ashes have been sent back to Australia
- 35:48Speaker 5: and that's how this whole thing came about. And it's
- 35:54Speaker 5: the most it's the most bizarre sport to watch because
- 35:58Speaker 5: nothing happens until something happens. It's like a court case
- 36:01Speaker 5: just unfolding on grass and it's about who can cheat
- 36:06Speaker 5: like a little bit better and everyone's hammered in the stands.
- 36:09Speaker 5: It's it's gonna be a lot of fun in and
- 36:12Speaker 5: I hope everybody now now watches it.
- 36:14Speaker 2: But it goes on for seven days. That's the key
- 36:16Speaker 2: to cricket.
- 36:17Speaker 5: Five days, Yeah, five five days, five different times. So
- 36:20Speaker 5: it's it starts Friday and then it'll end July thirty first.
- 36:24Speaker 3: Now, Lee Loft, do you know what the most famous
- 36:26Speaker 3: cricket movie is in America?
- 36:30Speaker 2: No days?
- 36:31Speaker 3: That confused with that battle?
- 36:35Speaker 2: Yeah, just because of the paddle.
- 36:36Speaker 3: That's that's as far as America goes with cricket is
- 36:39Speaker 3: young kids can smack in the ass with cricket battles.
- 36:43Speaker 1: You know, earlier today I was talking to a buddy.
- 36:46Speaker 2: And you have no friends, Chad, I got one, it's.
- 36:52Speaker 1: My only friend left. And he was asking me something
- 36:56Speaker 1: about betting, and I actually used Lee Buff as the example,
- 37:02Speaker 1: Like there is a personality that is almost they are
- 37:08Speaker 1: so angry at anybody liking anything that is mainstream but
- 37:14Speaker 1: has no quirkiness, no character, no real emotional value. So
- 37:24Speaker 1: they go to the extreme end to things like betting
- 37:29Speaker 1: hockey or betting golf, or betting darts or betting cricket
- 37:34Speaker 1: and immerse themselves in it so much. And I need
- 37:37Speaker 1: to know now that we have Lebuff on the podcast,
- 37:39Speaker 1: and I'd forgotten he was coming on today, that where
- 37:44Speaker 1: does that come from? Like like why cricket instead of football?
- 37:50Speaker 1: Why darts instead of NBA?
- 37:52Speaker 4: Do you know what I mean?
- 37:55Speaker 5: I think it's just more you said it, It's like
- 37:57Speaker 5: a got more quirk to it. There's more substance to
- 38:01Speaker 5: something that has these kind of insane history to it,
- 38:06Speaker 5: rather than you know, just here's here's a team that
- 38:11Speaker 5: was invented. They're the Philadelphia Eagles. Why like it's just
- 38:14Speaker 5: because well, there's a big city in Philadelphia they needed
- 38:17Speaker 5: a football team, and here's how they came about, like
- 38:20Speaker 5: Manchester United, and meant like I'm a huge soccer fan too,
- 38:23Speaker 5: Like these clubs came up because they were either you know,
- 38:26Speaker 5: a factory worker and their off day was Wednesday.
- 38:30Speaker 1: Right.
- 38:30Speaker 5: There's a big city in England called Sheffield and one
- 38:32Speaker 5: club is Sheffield United and they played on Sundays and
- 38:35Speaker 5: the other team was Sheffield Wednesdays because those guys had
- 38:37Speaker 5: off on Wednesday, so they would play their soccer on Wednesday.
- 38:40Speaker 4: Right.
- 38:40Speaker 5: So those kind of stories you learn through and I
- 38:44Speaker 5: want to keep going and learning more about those stories
- 38:47Speaker 5: rather than you know, hearing about Aaron Rodgers mundanely for
- 38:53Speaker 5: three hundred and sixty five days a year. I don't
- 38:54Speaker 5: really give a shit what Aaron Rodgers is doing on
- 38:57Speaker 5: like a Tuesday morning in New York City, but I
- 39:00Speaker 5: would love to hear like about you know how why
- 39:04Speaker 5: the biggest trophy in test cricket is this little earn.
- 39:07Speaker 5: And the way I start learning about these sports is
- 39:09Speaker 5: betting on them, because you throw five bucks on a
- 39:12Speaker 5: game and you're invested and you're watching and then the
- 39:14Speaker 5: next thing you know, you're doing it again, and you're
- 39:16Speaker 5: learning more and more and more, and the next thing
- 39:18Speaker 5: you know, you're you're geeked up for the Ashes more
- 39:21Speaker 5: than you are for Game five of the NBA Finals
- 39:25Speaker 5: or whatever happened last night Game six.
- 39:27Speaker 3: Well easy transition from Sheffield United who's been around for
- 39:30Speaker 3: what one hundred and fifty years to a Las Vegas
- 39:33Speaker 3: Knights who've been around for I don't know five years.
- 39:35Speaker 3: I mean, this is this is pretty crazy in the
- 39:37Speaker 3: hockey world. I would love to get your view on this,
- 39:39Speaker 3: the fact that we had a Panthers Vegas Finals and
- 39:44Speaker 3: it's been really good. I mean, honestly, I've really enjoyed
- 39:47Speaker 3: these games. So I would love to know your view
- 39:49Speaker 3: on just you know, what hockey is, right, we always
- 39:53Speaker 3: talk about I mean, I guess you could say the
- 39:56Speaker 3: same with NBA. It's like, if it's not the I,
- 39:58Speaker 3: it's not the original six and hockey, who really cares, right,
- 40:02Speaker 3: That's that's kind of the whole knock in hockey where
- 40:04Speaker 3: it's like, you know, people stick their nose up with
- 40:06Speaker 3: these new franchises. And I'll admit I hate Vegas, especially
- 40:10Speaker 3: as a hockey fan. I hate this team came in.
- 40:13Speaker 3: They cherry picked all these players from these different teams
- 40:16Speaker 3: and here they are. Is I mean, dude, they are
- 40:18Speaker 3: so dominant, so good. Their goalie hill has been unreal
- 40:23Speaker 3: in these finals. Just I mean, just looking at this,
- 40:26Speaker 3: we're three to one in. Is there any hope for
- 40:29Speaker 3: Florida Panthers or are they just lucky to be here? Because again,
- 40:33Speaker 3: they're the AEC. I know in hockey doesn't matter as much,
- 40:35Speaker 3: but you can really see the difference in talent level
- 40:37Speaker 3: between them in Vegas. I mean, Vegas just looks just
- 40:40Speaker 3: so complete. They don't have a weakness on their team.
- 40:42Speaker 3: Their defense is good, they're I mean, their offense is incredible.
- 40:46Speaker 3: Are we literally seeing a team the birth of a
- 40:48Speaker 3: dynasty or is this a one hit wonder for Vegas?
- 40:50Speaker 3: And you know they should enjoy this three to one
- 40:52Speaker 3: lead they have right now.
- 40:54Speaker 2: Yeah, they'll they'll be good.
- 40:55Speaker 5: I think they're like fourteen or sixteen to one to
- 40:57Speaker 5: win the Stanley Cup next year on the early looks
- 41:01Speaker 5: so uh, but they they're Their salary caps structures is bizarre.
- 41:06Speaker 5: They always just kind of trade, you know, kick the
- 41:10Speaker 5: can down the road and and bring in players that
- 41:13Speaker 5: can help them immediate in the immediate uh term, rather
- 41:16Speaker 5: than worry about anything in the future. And it's got
- 41:18Speaker 5: them here. This is their second Stanley Cup final in
- 41:20Speaker 5: six years. And yeah, but I go back and forth
- 41:25Speaker 5: on at the NHL when they expanded in Vegas, they
- 41:28Speaker 5: set the expansion draft up in a way that it
- 41:30Speaker 5: wasn't just gonna, you know, make them terrible if it
- 41:35Speaker 5: felt like in years past when.
- 41:39Speaker 2: So they wanted Vegas to be good.
- 41:41Speaker 5: It felt like they but I mean they did it
- 41:42Speaker 5: with Seattle too, was the same rules, and they just
- 41:44Speaker 5: didn't want these expansion markets. Like the NHL needs to
- 41:47Speaker 5: succeed in new markets. It's it's not like the NFL,
- 41:50Speaker 5: right like where if the NFL opened, uh you know,
- 41:52Speaker 5: they put a team in acron Ohio, like that team
- 41:55Speaker 5: would be fine because they're in the NFL, Like they
- 41:57Speaker 5: got the NFL shield to protect them, the same in
- 42:00Speaker 5: the NHL. So they went with a different strategy and
- 42:03Speaker 5: it's worked. The Vegas fan base is awesome, The experience
- 42:08Speaker 5: is great, So they're good. To answer your question, they're good.
- 42:13Speaker 5: I think Florida is always going to be live because
- 42:16Speaker 5: it's a it's hockey be the team's done it before
- 42:19Speaker 5: to a better team, to Boston in Round one. But
- 42:22Speaker 5: they do seem a little walking wounded in Matthew Kachuck.
- 42:26Speaker 5: Sounds like his shoulder is separated, and so if he
- 42:29Speaker 5: does play, he's going to be playing on one arm.
- 42:31Speaker 5: And he's their best player, one of the best players
- 42:33Speaker 5: in the league, so losing him is a big deal.
- 42:36Speaker 5: I do like Florida tonight, though from a betting standpoint.
- 42:40Speaker 5: You look at the last time these two teams played
- 42:41Speaker 5: in Vegas, which was Game two eight days ago. The
- 42:44Speaker 5: line closed minus one thirty five ish. It's minus two
- 42:48Speaker 5: hundred right now. I don't think that, you know, any
- 42:52Speaker 5: hockey player is worth sixty five cents to a betting line.
- 42:56Speaker 5: He's not, you know, some terrific quarterback for LSU or
- 43:00Speaker 5: something right like, this is an NHL player. This is
- 43:03Speaker 5: not a situation like that. So I think it's a
- 43:05Speaker 5: little bit of an overreaction. So I'll be betting Florida,
- 43:08Speaker 5: putting together a little same game lottery ticket parlay to
- 43:12Speaker 5: just in case it is the last game of the season.
- 43:14Speaker 5: You got to go out with a bang, maybe win
- 43:17Speaker 5: some some scratch, use that scratch to head over to England.
- 43:22Speaker 5: Check out check out one of the test matches quickly.
- 43:25Speaker 1: What will your your same game parlay B? But then
- 43:30Speaker 1: I have a follow up.
- 43:32Speaker 5: Sure three goal scorers. Michael Amadio on Vegas, he's like
- 43:37Speaker 5: plus four sixty, Anton Lindell on Florida he's five plus
- 43:42Speaker 5: five fifty, and Alex Petrangelo on Vegas he's seven to one.
- 43:47Speaker 5: I think they're all They're all worth it.
- 43:49Speaker 1: Simon just made.
- 43:50Speaker 2: All those bets, honestly did.
- 43:53Speaker 1: What's interesting, it's interesting to me that Simon is anti Vegas.
- 44:00Speaker 1: I actually love that Vegas got so good so fast,
- 44:04Speaker 1: and I think it's one of the few things the
- 44:07Speaker 1: NHL has done right is making them being self aware
- 44:12Speaker 1: enough to know we better make sure these expansion teams
- 44:15Speaker 1: Vegas Seattle are good fast, because fans will not have
- 44:19Speaker 1: patience and will they will spend their money elsewhere, and
- 44:23Speaker 1: those stadiums will sit empty. And I think what Vegas
- 44:26Speaker 1: did with the Golden Knights, help get the Raiders there,
- 44:29Speaker 1: help get the A's there. It turned that town into
- 44:33Speaker 1: a sports town that felt like the locals could rally.
- 44:37Speaker 1: I don't think they're taking the Raiders the same way
- 44:39Speaker 1: they are the Golden Knights because of you know, the relocation.
- 44:42Speaker 1: The Golden Knights an original team. But I love the
- 44:45Speaker 1: way the NHL handle it. I love the fact that
- 44:47Speaker 1: Golden Knights have been good. I love the way Vegas
- 44:50Speaker 1: has embraced them. We've off the NHL did something right here.
- 44:53Speaker 5: Well, Vegas is a town that appreciates quirk too, right,
- 44:58Speaker 5: Like there's whim to hockey, there's today.
- 45:00Speaker 1: The time I go into a sports book, half the
- 45:02Speaker 1: screens are on test matches. That's how much they appreciate quirk.
- 45:06Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 45:07Speaker 5: Yeah, if you get there early enough, they will be
- 45:09Speaker 5: this coming week and we'll be pulling for those Aussies.
- 45:14Speaker 1: What can you tell us about?
- 45:16Speaker 4: Uh?
- 45:17Speaker 1: So you think Floor is going to win tonight? You
- 45:18Speaker 1: put in your same game parlay of goal scorers. What
- 45:23Speaker 1: should we be looking for for the NHL draft, where
- 45:27Speaker 1: I believe the Chicago Blackhawks have the number one overall pick.
- 45:31Speaker 3: That's what I was gonna say, chatt as a black Hawks. Yeah,
- 45:36Speaker 3: you can be happy for Vegas. You got your cup
- 45:38Speaker 3: whatever is it ten years ago against my Flyers, three
- 45:40Speaker 3: of them, three of them cups.
- 45:42Speaker 2: I'm bitter.
- 45:43Speaker 3: I'm bitter, all right, Yeah, I got freaking Danny Breer
- 45:47Speaker 3: running my team. I don't know what the hell is
- 45:48Speaker 3: going on to Flyers, but it's.
- 45:49Speaker 5: Not he's got a He's got the right idea with
- 45:52Speaker 5: that team, though I think, yeah, oh boy, yeah, Son
- 46:00Speaker 5: wasn't good. But the the NHL draft we were talking
- 46:07Speaker 5: about before, right, Chad, Yeah, you want to talk like
- 46:11Speaker 5: I Those poor Blackhawks fans three Stanley Cups in a decade,
- 46:15Speaker 5: then have to endure two tough seasons and now they
- 46:18Speaker 5: get the the next Connor McDavid serious. Meanwhile, the one
- 46:24Speaker 5: year in the Islanders when the lottery, the guy that
- 46:26Speaker 5: they pick just abandoned ship gone. When the going gets tough,
- 46:31Speaker 5: John Tavares gets going somewhere else. The uh yeah, the
- 46:36Speaker 5: draft will be fun. It's always fun to bet. Last
- 46:37Speaker 5: year I hit an eighteen to one winner on the
- 46:41Speaker 5: second overall pick with with our our great buddy, great
- 46:47Speaker 5: New Jersey pison, Steve Petrella. He the two of us
- 46:51Speaker 5: hit Simon Lemich to New Jersey because we knew that
- 46:57Speaker 5: if Montreal picked the guy they eventually picked, which was
- 47:00Speaker 5: you're a Slkowski, the Devils wouldn't take a center, They'd
- 47:02Speaker 5: probably take a defenseman. And he was severely underrated by
- 47:06Speaker 5: the sports books, and that's what we'll look for here.
- 47:09Speaker 5: So this is going to sound nuts, but the key
- 47:12Speaker 5: to betting this NHL draft, because we know that Badard
- 47:15Speaker 5: is going to go to your beloved Blackhawks first is
- 47:18Speaker 5: trying to figure out where Matt fi Mitchikov. He's this
- 47:22Speaker 5: little Russian star, but we don't know if he's coming over,
- 47:28Speaker 5: when he's coming over, if his dad was found dead
- 47:31Speaker 5: in a pond. I'm not kidding a few months ago.
- 47:34Speaker 5: So whenever, yeah, whatever, whenever you're dealing with rush, it's
- 47:39Speaker 5: things get a little interesting. So a lot of teams,
- 47:43Speaker 5: he's I think considered the second most talented player in
- 47:46Speaker 5: the draft class, but there's so much risk to picking up,
- 47:50Speaker 5: so using him as kind of the wild card is
- 47:53Speaker 5: how you want to bet the draft. And I think
- 47:56Speaker 5: that the team he he's going to end up going
- 47:58Speaker 5: to with San Jose in the fourth spot, but that's
- 48:01Speaker 5: not the bet I'm gonna make. The bet I'm gonna
- 48:03Speaker 5: make is kind of based off that it's Leo Carlson.
- 48:06Speaker 5: He should be double digits at the very least to
- 48:09Speaker 5: go fifth overall to Montreal. They need a center. Carlson
- 48:13Speaker 5: is projected by most most mock drafts to go second
- 48:17Speaker 5: to Columbus, but I think that they're actually going to
- 48:20Speaker 5: end up picking an American center, Will Smith, excuse me,
- 48:24Speaker 5: third to Columbus after Adam finn Tilly goes to Anaheim.
- 48:28Speaker 5: That seems like a certainty, so it'll be Dard Fantilly
- 48:31Speaker 5: and then most people expect Carlson to go third to Columbus,
- 48:35Speaker 5: but I actually think that they'll end up going with
- 48:38Speaker 5: the more finished product, which is this guy Will Smith,
- 48:42Speaker 5: because Columbus wants to compete next year. I don't think
- 48:45Speaker 5: they want to spend another year developing players, which means
- 48:48Speaker 5: that Mitch Cobb and Carlson will go four or five
- 48:51Speaker 5: in some combination. And I'm going to bet that San
- 48:53Speaker 5: Jose is the team that will embrace the risk of
- 48:57Speaker 5: taking Mitch Cob at four because they're still in the
- 49:00Speaker 5: process of tearing things down and can be patient with
- 49:03Speaker 5: a player like that. So that lands me on Leo
- 49:07Speaker 5: Carlson to Les Habitants at the fifth overall pick. It
- 49:11Speaker 5: should be a good number, so when those start to
- 49:13Speaker 5: pop up more widespread, that that'd be the bet I'd
- 49:17Speaker 5: hop on.
- 49:19Speaker 1: All right, leab Off, I feel like we've covered everything
- 49:21Speaker 1: we need to cover for the NHL until line change.
- 49:24Speaker 4: UH is back.
- 49:26Speaker 1: In its supremacy as the season begins again. Congress, Congress
- 49:32Speaker 1: to me, UH for so aggressively pushing the podcast UH
- 49:37Speaker 1: and putting it on. It's kind of setting the table
- 49:40Speaker 1: for you and Mitchell to do something with it.
- 49:44Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 49:45Speaker 5: Once again was a master class and being a being
- 49:48Speaker 5: a media mogul. And Matt Nick Martin and I thank
- 49:53Speaker 5: you for setting such a good example.
- 49:55Speaker 1: Yeah, you know what I think UH as the great
- 49:59Speaker 1: Wayne Gretzky and said, I like to skate where the
- 50:03Speaker 1: puck is going, not where this is, Not where the
- 50:06Speaker 1: puck is Simon, Oh, Simon for Simon Hunter, I am
