- 0:00Speaker 1: There's a little movie called Meet the Parents starring one
- 0:02Speaker 1: Ben Stiller a number of years ago, and I love
- 0:06Speaker 1: that movie.
- 0:06Speaker 2: Ask what are you talking about?
- 0:08Speaker 1: I can't stand that movie. Hey, everybody, welcome to Girls
- 0:29Speaker 1: Gone Hallmark. I'm Megan, I'm Wendy, and we are heading
- 0:35Speaker 1: into the home stretch of our summer series where we
- 0:39Speaker 1: are reviewing fan favorite movies. Today's movie is Surprised by Love.
- 0:44Speaker 1: If you want to connect with us outside of the podcast,
- 0:48Speaker 1: you can find us on Instagram, where we are both
- 0:52Speaker 1: at Girls Gone Hamewark and at Megan and Wendy.
- 0:55Speaker 3: You can also jump into our Girls Gone Hallmark Facebook group.
- 0:59Speaker 3: It's open to both guys and girls. And I'm going
- 1:02Speaker 3: to tell you there's big things coming, so you want
- 1:07Speaker 3: to be in the group to hear it first.
- 1:08Speaker 2: That is correct.
- 1:09Speaker 1: We have lots of announcements coming this month with the
- 1:13Speaker 1: future of all things Megan and Wendy.
- 1:15Speaker 2: That's right. And we had.
- 1:18Speaker 1: Some hot discussion about a recent episode that we published
- 1:22Speaker 1: in the Facebook group.
- 1:24Speaker 2: Our review of.
- 1:26Speaker 1: Love on the Sidelines from two weeks ago was hotly contested.
- 1:30Speaker 3: Look, I'm going to say it again. Sorry, not sorry.
- 1:34Speaker 1: I re listened to the episode after day I was
- 1:37Speaker 1: hosted because we had recorded it a little bit in Fance,
- 1:39Speaker 1: and we really did come hard for that movie, but
- 1:43Speaker 1: I meant every word of it.
- 1:44Speaker 2: I think perhaps we were at our breaking point. That's true.
- 1:48Speaker 2: That's true.
- 1:49Speaker 3: We were pre recording a ton of stuff to get
- 1:52Speaker 3: us through the summer, and I think that was our
- 1:55Speaker 3: last movie that we did, and we're like, oh, it
- 1:58Speaker 3: actually wasn't the last movie we did, but I think
- 2:00Speaker 3: we were at our breaking point.
- 2:01Speaker 1: Yeah, we were definitely running on fumes. I would say
- 2:05Speaker 1: at that point. If anybody was ever wondering if we
- 2:08Speaker 1: were holding back in.
- 2:09Speaker 2: These reviews, I think that is the.
- 2:11Speaker 1: Episode that I would point them to to point out
- 2:13Speaker 1: that we very.
- 2:14Speaker 2: Much are not not being paid by Hallmark. Definitely not that.
- 2:19Speaker 1: Please hire us to moderate a panel on the Hallmark
- 2:22Speaker 1: Christmas Cruise.
- 2:23Speaker 3: Oh yeah, that's that's a update since we've last recorded
- 2:27Speaker 3: headed on the Hallmark Christmas Cruise next year.
- 2:30Speaker 2: I gotta say, I'm excited, are you?
- 2:33Speaker 3: I'm terrified of barfing my brains out the entire time,
- 2:38Speaker 3: but I'm excited to do like cookie decorating and gambling.
- 2:43Speaker 3: That's what you sold me on is like all you
- 2:45Speaker 3: can eat food in gambling.
- 2:47Speaker 1: Well, it's gonna be a great time. I love a cruise.
- 2:49Speaker 1: I love a cruise so much. As we're recording this,
- 2:52Speaker 1: the pre sale for the second dates that they announced
- 2:55Speaker 1: is happening right now. They had enough interest that they
- 2:59Speaker 1: opened up an entirely new cruise. But the sad thing
- 3:02Speaker 1: about that is that means that anybody who had booked
- 3:05Speaker 1: that cruise, just like I'm gonna go on this cruise
- 3:08Speaker 1: to the Bahamas, got.
- 3:09Speaker 2: Bumped because they they chartered it.
- 3:12Speaker 1: But when that happens to you, though, never fear. The
- 3:17Speaker 1: cruise line like gives you, obviously refunds you and then some.
- 3:20Speaker 1: So when is the second cruise? It's two weeks later
- 3:24Speaker 1: or like ten days later, the seventeenth through the twenty first.
- 3:27Speaker 1: I don't actually even know the dates of ours. Maybe
- 3:29Speaker 1: it's eight days later. Ours is like the fifth through
- 3:32Speaker 1: the ninth.
- 3:33Speaker 3: Okay, So are there are there supposed to be Hallmark
- 3:37Speaker 3: celebrities on these cruises?
- 3:38Speaker 2: Yes, ma'am, that's the whole appeal.
- 3:40Speaker 3: Okay, So but do you think they're gonna like book
- 3:43Speaker 3: the same celebrities, like is Tyler Hines going to go
- 3:46Speaker 3: on two cruises? Or do you think he's just.
- 3:48Speaker 2: Gonna be on one.
- 3:50Speaker 1: Well hot take from one of the Hallmark Cruise Facebook
- 3:53Speaker 1: groups that I'm in, someone made a list of the
- 3:56Speaker 1: celebrities they would like to see on the cruise, and
- 3:58Speaker 1: of course Tyler was at the top but the list
- 4:00Speaker 1: and someone commented he probably won't be there because he
- 4:03Speaker 1: made a comment about never doing a cruise. Oh but
- 4:08Speaker 1: who knows? That is the big question? Will there be
- 4:11Speaker 1: overlap stars? Will you have you know, a different crowd
- 4:15Speaker 1: week one to the next. Obviously they're being paid to
- 4:18Speaker 1: appear on this cruise.
- 4:20Speaker 2: So yeah, money talks.
- 4:23Speaker 1: Perhaps spending four days on a cruise ship is not
- 4:25Speaker 1: the worst way to spend some time in November.
- 4:28Speaker 3: Well, and especially who knows how long this acting strike
- 4:31Speaker 3: is going to go on. So I know we're talking
- 4:34Speaker 3: next year, but hey, you got bills to pay, you
- 4:37Speaker 3: might go on a paid cruise?
- 4:39Speaker 2: Yeah? Why not? Man? That all remains to be seen.
- 4:42Speaker 1: Obviously they won't be announcing celebrities until much, much closer
- 4:46Speaker 1: to the sailing date. But if you're going, let us know.
- 4:48Speaker 2: We'll see you there.
- 4:49Speaker 3: Are you ready for a synopsis? I Am Surprised by Love.
- 4:53Speaker 3: This comes from twenty fifteen and It is the story
- 4:56Speaker 3: of a young business woman who tries to convince her
- 4:59Speaker 3: uptight parents to accept her current boyfriend and instead finds
- 5:03Speaker 3: herself falling for an old high school flame.
- 5:06Speaker 1: As I listened to you read that synopsis, I realized
- 5:09Speaker 1: I was like, oh God, I totally forgot that. The
- 5:11Speaker 1: premise of this movie was like get mom and dad
- 5:14Speaker 1: to like Richard.
- 5:15Speaker 2: Mm, yeah, didn't you just watch this movie? Yeah?
- 5:19Speaker 1: I watched it last night. I actually started this movie
- 5:21Speaker 1: months ago. I opened up my notes and I was like, Wow,
- 5:24Speaker 1: this is meaningless to me. I was like Gridley, Who
- 5:26Speaker 1: the heck's Gridley? Let's get into it news all right?
- 5:29Speaker 2: Yeah, do you have some Yeah.
- 5:31Speaker 1: This was directed by Robert Iskove, who appears to be
- 5:34Speaker 1: retired now, as this was his last directing credit of
- 5:36Speaker 1: his sixty four He also directed hits like From Justin
- 5:39Speaker 1: to Kelly and The Unauthorized Story of Different Strokes.
- 5:44Speaker 2: A movie that maybe you saw, did you? I feel
- 5:47Speaker 2: like your husband would watch that.
- 5:49Speaker 1: My husband would absolutely have watched that if he came
- 5:52Speaker 1: across it. I'm not sure that he has, but we
- 5:54Speaker 1: might have to hunt it down on one of our
- 5:56Speaker 1: many many streaming services.
- 5:58Speaker 3: Hey, I don't know if you if you saw an
- 6:00Speaker 3: IMDb but Robert Iskov also directed the nineteen ninety nineteen
- 6:05Speaker 3: rom com.
- 6:06Speaker 2: She's All That. Oh I did not see that.
- 6:10Speaker 3: Yeah, the original airdate for this movie was January third,
- 6:15Speaker 3: twenty fifteen. And I must ask you, is is that Winterfest?
- 6:20Speaker 2: Was this a Winterfest movie? Don't Know's that's this? Don't know?
- 6:25Speaker 2: Was that a thing in twenty fifteen?
- 6:27Speaker 1: You know, in a recent episode that I edited, I
- 6:30Speaker 1: said you ask a lot of questions that I do
- 6:32Speaker 1: not have the answer for, and that stands true today. Well, hey,
- 6:36Speaker 1: if anybody listening has the answer, you can always email
- 6:40Speaker 1: us at Meganwindy at gmail dot com, or talk about
- 6:42Speaker 1: it in the Facebook group or whatever. I'm not trying
- 6:45Speaker 1: to stump you with these questions, Megan, I'm just it's
- 6:48Speaker 1: an out of curiosity.
- 6:50Speaker 2: Truly.
- 6:51Speaker 1: I understand. I don't have any information. This is not
- 6:54Speaker 1: a winter movie.
- 6:55Speaker 2: Do better?
- 6:56Speaker 1: But hey, the unauthorized story of Different Strokes is streaming
- 6:59Speaker 1: on peacock.
- 7:02Speaker 2: I might have to watch it. I loved me some
- 7:04Speaker 2: Different Strokes when I was growing up. I freaking loved itod.
- 7:08Speaker 3: You know I was looking this is not a Different
- 7:11Speaker 3: Strokes tangent, but it is. I was noticing in the
- 7:14Speaker 3: title that different Different is spelled with atrophy.
- 7:20Speaker 2: Yeah. Why, I mean, that's how it's always been spelled.
- 7:22Speaker 2: But why again, answer, you don't know. I don't know different,
- 7:28Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 7:29Speaker 3: Hey, did you know this movie was written by the
- 7:33Speaker 3: I'm not gonna be able to say their last names, Dobrovski.
- 7:36Speaker 2: There you go.
- 7:37Speaker 3: You know, I recalled when I was typing up my notes,
- 7:40Speaker 3: I was like, wait a minute, we talked about a
- 7:42Speaker 3: movie this summer that they had written.
- 7:46Speaker 1: No, you're wrong, Okay, what you're remembering is we discussed
- 7:51Speaker 1: the Real House Guys of the North Pole, which I
- 7:53Speaker 1: believe shared a director with a movie that we had
- 7:55Speaker 1: watched previously.
- 7:57Speaker 2: Is that ringing a bell? Am? I in the right direction? There?
- 8:00Speaker 3: Their son wrote that movie. Oh they co wrote that
- 8:03Speaker 3: big yeah with their son with their son. Yes, yeah,
- 8:06Speaker 3: they have a number of writing credits together. You know what,
- 8:10Speaker 3: I'm not wrong because I'm looking at my note right now.
- 8:13Speaker 3: It says they wrote the script for Love on the Air,
- 8:16Speaker 3: and I believe that was a summer movie. That good,
- 8:19Speaker 3: Thank you so much, well done. So anyway, they wrote
- 8:22Speaker 3: this movie as well as.
- 8:24Speaker 1: The number of other Hallmark movies.
- 8:26Speaker 2: Tons, But again, they haven't written a movie in quite
- 8:29Speaker 2: some time. Maybe they're retired as well. Maybe they are.
- 8:32Speaker 1: Speaking of Hallmark. Malcolm Stewart plays Dad Joseph Mayfield. He
- 8:35Speaker 1: has two hundred and three acting credits, and if you
- 8:37Speaker 1: recognize him, it's probably because he plays lots of Hallmark dads.
- 8:40Speaker 1: He has played alongside Paul Campbell. He played his dad
- 8:44Speaker 1: in Christmas by Starlight. But again, he has two hundred
- 8:47Speaker 1: three acting credits tons of Hallmark movies, including the Christmas
- 8:51Speaker 1: in Evergreen series where he plays the dad.
- 8:54Speaker 2: Is that just his like title? The Dad?
- 8:56Speaker 1: I think he has a name, but that's his role dad.
- 9:00Speaker 2: I gotta tell you I did not recognize him watching
- 9:02Speaker 2: this movie.
- 9:02Speaker 1: She plays a nice dad, he plays, I mean dad,
- 9:05Speaker 1: he plays.
- 9:06Speaker 2: He plays all kinds of dads.
- 9:07Speaker 3: This movie stars Hillary Burton, who plays Josie and she's
- 9:11Speaker 3: probably best known as playing Peyton Sawyer on One Tree
- 9:15Speaker 3: Hill Show Me.
- 9:16Speaker 1: I did not want IMDb say Peyton Scott because she
- 9:19Speaker 1: marries a Scott brother.
- 9:21Speaker 2: Eventually, ah, thank you.
- 9:23Speaker 3: She marries Lucas. I think who is Lucas Scott anyway? Yeah,
- 9:27Speaker 3: her maiden name is Sawyer. Previous Hallmark movies include Summer
- 9:31Speaker 3: Villa and Naughty or Nice, which when I saw the
- 9:34Speaker 3: title Naughty or Nice, I was like, that's a Hallmark movie,
- 9:37Speaker 3: like kind of surprise, Like it feels dirty, sure, okay,
- 9:41Speaker 3: but here this is what I thought was really interesting.
- 9:44Speaker 3: Back in twenty nineteen, it's reported that Burton was let
- 9:47Speaker 3: go from a Hallmark movie after she made requests for
- 9:51Speaker 3: a more diverse cast, and she was very outspoken about
- 9:57Speaker 3: the Big Tree from then.
- 9:59Speaker 2: Head Bill Abbott. Boh. I was like, wow.
- 10:02Speaker 3: But with all that said, we haven't seen her in
- 10:04Speaker 3: a homework movie since twenty sixteen.
- 10:07Speaker 1: You know, I really enjoyed her in this, and now
- 10:10Speaker 1: that Bill Abbott is no more, maybe we could bring
- 10:12Speaker 1: her back.
- 10:13Speaker 2: Yeah. I wonder if she would come back. I mean,
- 10:15Speaker 2: if they're.
- 10:16Speaker 3: Doing what she had requested that they do back then,
- 10:20Speaker 3: you would think she'd be like, Hey, all right, I'm
- 10:23Speaker 3: gonna ride with you.
- 10:24Speaker 2: Now we'll see Paul.
- 10:25Speaker 1: Campbell plays Maxwell Gridley and look, he's Hallmark Royalty needs
- 10:30Speaker 1: no introduction. He started a ton of Hallmark movies, including
- 10:34Speaker 1: the Cases of Mystery Lane, Wedding Every Weekend. A previous
- 10:38Speaker 1: summer series review The Santa Stakeout, but also twenty five
- 10:43Speaker 1: episodes of Battlestar Galactica, which is not for me. Certain
- 10:49Speaker 1: Malcolm Stewart was in a couple of episodes of Battlestar
- 10:52Speaker 1: Galactica as well.
- 10:53Speaker 2: Okay, so I'm a little bit.
- 10:57Speaker 3: Concerned because I try to find like some current work
- 11:01Speaker 3: for Paul Campbell and there's like nothing on the internet.
- 11:06Speaker 3: I mean, I know there's like a writer strike and
- 11:08Speaker 3: an actors strike happening, but I thought there was rumblings
- 11:12Speaker 3: of a second Three Wise Men and a baby.
- 11:17Speaker 2: Done. I mean, nothing has been confirmed there. I hear you.
- 11:21Speaker 2: I believe if you.
- 11:23Speaker 1: Listen to the reports made by Girls Gone. Hallmark correspondent
- 11:29Speaker 1: Mike He said that they've got some movies in the works.
- 11:33Speaker 1: And you know how Hallmark is, they're real cagy until
- 11:35Speaker 1: they make an actual announcement. They like to wait until
- 11:38Speaker 1: the last minute. So he and Kimberly Sastad had two movies.
- 11:43Speaker 1: They were prioritizing the Christmas movie. So maybe we just have.
- 11:49Speaker 1: It's not like he hasn't been working. I wouldn't worry
- 11:52Speaker 1: about our Paul Campbell just yet.
- 11:55Speaker 2: Man. Okay, So can I go on? Yeah?
- 11:58Speaker 3: Tim Conway played Josie's grandfather in this movie Can We Passed?
- 12:03Speaker 3: In twenty seventeen, he was a six time Prime Time
- 12:07Speaker 3: Emmy winner with fourteen total nominations. He's known for roles
- 12:11Speaker 3: in the Carol Burnett Show, Michael's Navy, tons of guest spots,
- 12:16Speaker 3: and tons of voice work in his later years.
- 12:19Speaker 2: I really loved him. Oh he's in my like, I
- 12:22Speaker 2: will talk about him, and I liked all right, what's
- 12:25Speaker 2: your first impression?
- 12:26Speaker 3: A Twinkie cake makes my stomach turn? Oh god, can
- 12:29Speaker 3: you imagine how sweet.
- 12:33Speaker 1: Buy a grocery store sheet cake? It would taste better
- 12:35Speaker 1: than that.
- 12:36Speaker 3: I mean, I love a Twinkie, but like in a
- 12:39Speaker 3: big amount like that, I just know I can't. No, no, no.
- 12:44Speaker 1: My first impression is I knew that dog stole the
- 12:47Speaker 1: Faberge egg?
- 12:48Speaker 2: Oh did you the case of the Faberge egg? Huh?
- 12:53Speaker 2: Can you want to talk about Faberge eggs for a minute? Sure?
- 12:58Speaker 1: So, I like googled Faberge egg. It's not like something
- 13:00Speaker 1: you can just like order at like Nima Marcus. Apparently,
- 13:03Speaker 1: it's like, oh, a piece of art that you need
- 13:05Speaker 1: to get. I found the fore most expensive Faberge eggs ever.
- 13:09Speaker 2: Sold.
- 13:10Speaker 1: What would you guess? The top selling Faberge egg sold
- 13:15Speaker 1: for one million dollars five point one million dollars in
- 13:19Speaker 1: out care child clock egg number two nine point six,
- 13:23Speaker 1: number three, seven point seven million, number four six point
- 13:26Speaker 1: nine million.
- 13:27Speaker 2: Wow, that's like big money. And then I found on
- 13:33Speaker 2: Sacks fifth.
- 13:33Speaker 1: Avenue Avenue from the Faberget line, they have a Faberget
- 13:38Speaker 1: diamond egg pendant necklace flocking in at fifty six thousand dollars.
- 13:45Speaker 2: This is old white women wearing real much. Yeah, big wow.
- 13:51Speaker 2: I don't get it. Neither do I.
- 13:53Speaker 1: We'll talk more about the Faberge egg momentarily.
- 13:56Speaker 2: I would rather own a private jet than a you
- 14:01Speaker 2: know what do you mean?
- 14:02Speaker 1: Yes?
- 14:03Speaker 2: Wow? Okay, let's talk about what we liked about this movie.
- 14:09Speaker 1: Well, I love that Grandpa is just so tired of
- 14:11Speaker 1: everyone's shit. He's like, I don't want to do this anymore,
- 14:15Speaker 1: so I'm just gonna pretend like I can no longer speak.
- 14:18Speaker 2: I think that's brilliant. I'm opting out quietly quitty.
- 14:24Speaker 1: Yes, they're gonna leave me alone.
- 14:30Speaker 2: I freaking love Tim Conway in this movie. He's great,
- 14:35Speaker 2: he's great.
- 14:36Speaker 3: I just loved the entire thing and I love that
- 14:39Speaker 3: they this role was just like, yeah, no.
- 14:43Speaker 2: I'm just gonna be quiet.
- 14:44Speaker 1: How much did you love Josie making her video blog
- 14:49Speaker 1: and she steps away from the kitchen and it's just
- 14:51Speaker 1: a straight up green screen.
- 14:53Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 14:53Speaker 3: I thought that was funny. Yeah, I thought that was
- 14:55Speaker 3: really funny. Speaking of Hillary Burton, I found her pleasant
- 14:59Speaker 3: to watch. I didn't think she was like spectacular, but pleasant.
- 15:03Speaker 3: And I'm curious to hear from listeners if there is
- 15:06Speaker 3: a Hillary Burton Hallmark movie that is I must see,
- 15:10Speaker 3: or if this was it. M she doesn't have that
- 15:14Speaker 3: many on her resume, so I'm like, and I know
- 15:20Speaker 3: a lot of people love this movie, So I'm like,
- 15:22Speaker 3: is this the Hillary Burton Hallmark movie to watch? Yeah?
- 15:25Speaker 1: I think pleasant is a good descriptor of her acting
- 15:29Speaker 1: in this movie.
- 15:30Speaker 3: Because for me, it's all about Paul Campbell. I love
- 15:33Speaker 3: Paul Campbell, Yes, as do I. And I gotta tell
- 15:37Speaker 3: you when I turned the movie on, I knew she
- 15:39Speaker 3: was in it, but I did not know Paul Campbell
- 15:41Speaker 3: was in it, So I was like pleasantly surprised.
- 15:43Speaker 2: I was like, oh, yes, it's a Paul Campbell movie.
- 15:45Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I liked tim. I liked her. I liked
- 15:50Speaker 2: them together. It was all pleasant.
- 15:53Speaker 1: Here's a fun thing that I'm not sure I've seen
- 15:55Speaker 1: before is their drive to her parents' house. They don't
- 15:58Speaker 1: do terrible car green. They just do a voiceover of
- 16:02Speaker 1: some random b roll of a car driving on some roads.
- 16:05Speaker 2: I did not even notice. Oh good catch nice.
- 16:11Speaker 1: I didn't hate it. Of course, it's a thirty second scene.
- 16:13Speaker 1: You couldn't really get away with that in a lot
- 16:16Speaker 1: of situations. And I'm sure it was a budget thing,
- 16:18Speaker 1: like why are we going to move to a car
- 16:19Speaker 1: when we just need to show that they have moved
- 16:22Speaker 1: from place to place.
- 16:23Speaker 2: But I appreciated it.
- 16:24Speaker 3: Where was her childhood at home supposed to be? To
- 16:26Speaker 3: your recall? I mean either they lived in Chicago, right,
- 16:31Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 16:32Speaker 1: Okay, Chicago, that's where that waterfront was supposed to be
- 16:35Speaker 1: in it he was.
- 16:36Speaker 2: Honestly, I have no idea. I like Chicago. I imagine
- 16:39Speaker 2: whom to be like down by the that bean thing
- 16:42Speaker 2: selling is.
- 16:43Speaker 1: Yeah, but you've been to the bean That doesn't look
- 16:45Speaker 1: anything like where he was.
- 16:47Speaker 2: I have no idea. You guys, please leave us a comment.
- 16:50Speaker 2: Where was this supposed to take place?
- 16:51Speaker 1: I mean it doesn't matter where it was suppsed to
- 16:53Speaker 1: take place, because it definitely was not there.
- 16:55Speaker 2: I know, man, do you.
- 16:56Speaker 1: Remember the one we were in Chicago and we did
- 16:59Speaker 1: hungover yoga?
- 17:00Speaker 2: Megan did hungover yoga? It was rough. I just yoga,
- 17:04Speaker 2: but I wasn't crying.
- 17:05Speaker 1: I don't like I don't have many hungover moments in
- 17:09Speaker 1: my entire life, but that was one of them.
- 17:11Speaker 2: It was like summertime too, and very like Muggy.
- 17:14Speaker 1: I had to just like sit down like child's posts.
- 17:17Speaker 1: Most of it it was. It was high human and
- 17:20Speaker 1: downward dog was not it. Okay, let's move on to
- 17:23Speaker 1: what we wished for. I wish they didn't make Gridley
- 17:26Speaker 1: out to be some loser compared to Richard, such a buffoon.
- 17:30Speaker 1: So okay, here's the thing is because Gridley doesn't have
- 17:33Speaker 1: like a typical or a corporate job, so he's deemed
- 17:37Speaker 1: less than desirable.
- 17:38Speaker 2: I hate that.
- 17:39Speaker 3: It just feels gross, Like, don't do that. If it
- 17:41Speaker 3: was like a woman in that role, would we be, like,
- 17:45Speaker 3: say somebody was like a waitress compared to like Josie's
- 17:48Speaker 3: corporate job, Like is she deemed Wait.
- 17:51Speaker 2: A minute, I've just figured it out.
- 17:53Speaker 3: This sister Josie's sister was deemed kind of a loser
- 17:58Speaker 3: too by the family because she was like she quit
- 18:01Speaker 3: school and like she was singing in a cafe, Like
- 18:03Speaker 3: I just think that's gross.
- 18:05Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 18:06Speaker 1: I like when the mom at the towards the end
- 18:09Speaker 1: of the movie grows to accept her children, when she's like, yes,
- 18:13Speaker 1: Josie sells spoons, and what's.
- 18:15Speaker 2: Her name, I don't remember. Little sister sings in the cafe.
- 18:19Speaker 1: Yes, she sings in a cafe, and I these are
- 18:23Speaker 1: my children, and they're great. This is what they do.
- 18:25Speaker 1: We're not making excuses for them. I think your point
- 18:29Speaker 1: about Paul Campbell stands out, especially when they're in the
- 18:32Speaker 1: kitchen towards the end of the movie and the family
- 18:34Speaker 1: has grown to love Gridley and they talk about I
- 18:38Speaker 1: don't know what the conversation is, something about you know
- 18:42Speaker 1: how he's headed back, you know, he's this artist, And
- 18:45Speaker 1: Richard's like, well, that's not really true, is it. Aren't
- 18:48Speaker 1: you moving every six months? And I thought you are
- 18:53Speaker 1: so up your own ass that you cannot imagine a
- 18:56Speaker 1: world in which someone doesn't want to live the life
- 18:59Speaker 1: that you want to live, Like he moves because he
- 19:02Speaker 1: wants to experience new places and makes the point like
- 19:05Speaker 1: I've never had a reason not to. But also, what
- 19:07Speaker 1: if you just want to live in a lot of
- 19:09Speaker 1: different places, But if living in one place is not
- 19:11Speaker 1: the life that you want, there are different ways to
- 19:14Speaker 1: have a successful and meaningful life.
- 19:17Speaker 2: M M, I agree.
- 19:19Speaker 1: Okay, look this movie. I can't believe you haven't said
- 19:21Speaker 1: it yet. Way too many hijinks. Oh it's on my list,
- 19:24Speaker 1: girl cool it. Honestly, I felt like the second half
- 19:28Speaker 1: of the movie was significantly better than the first half.
- 19:31Speaker 2: Agree, But they had to do all of.
- 19:33Speaker 1: This like, oh, Gridley is a buffoon, and here are
- 19:36Speaker 1: all of the reasons why he is a buffoon. Do
- 19:39Speaker 1: not expect me to believe that this man who can
- 19:42Speaker 1: craft driftwood art also can't walk through a room without
- 19:46Speaker 1: destroying it like a bowl in a china shop. With
- 19:50Speaker 1: this completely overacted flowers thrown in the air moment and
- 19:57Speaker 1: the cake he took responsibility for all the way the
- 20:00Speaker 1: dog that did it.
- 20:00Speaker 2: It was just it was too much.
- 20:02Speaker 1: It was just these like slow molo way. It was
- 20:07Speaker 1: not enjoyable for me when that was happening.
- 20:11Speaker 3: I think I've turned you onto the hyjinks, Like I
- 20:13Speaker 3: think you hate them as much as I do. Now
- 20:15Speaker 3: I do hate them as much as you do. When
- 20:18Speaker 3: it's overdone like this, they're.
- 20:22Speaker 2: There's a little movie called.
- 20:23Speaker 1: Meet the Parents starring one Ben Stiller a number of
- 20:26Speaker 1: years ago, and uh, people loved that movie.
- 20:29Speaker 2: They thought it was hilarious.
- 20:31Speaker 1: I don't like and the whole premise is one bad
- 20:34Speaker 1: situation after you've seen the movie.
- 20:35Speaker 2: Yes, I love that movie.
- 20:37Speaker 1: Actually, what are you talking about? I can't stand that movie.
- 20:40Speaker 2: It's like house sketches all fi. I mean, it's funny.
- 20:45Speaker 1: This makes no sense to me because that movie is
- 20:47Speaker 1: like high budget hijinks.
- 20:50Speaker 2: I think that's the difference.
- 20:52Speaker 1: I can't stand that movie. That movie makes me uncomfortable
- 20:55Speaker 1: to watch movies where you're just like people are getting
- 20:59Speaker 1: the shit beat out of them in like what's supposed
- 21:01Speaker 1: to be a comedic way, like The Hangover. Have you
- 21:04Speaker 1: seen The Hangover?
- 21:05Speaker 2: One of my favorites. My husband loves that movie.
- 21:07Speaker 1: I'm like, this is not fun for me, Like his
- 21:09Speaker 1: tooth is missing and there's sunburnt all the hell and
- 21:12Speaker 1: they're carrying this baby around. There's a tiger in their hotel,
- 21:15Speaker 1: and I'm like, this is not funny to me.
- 21:17Speaker 4: There's too much money, so these are great movie, no
- 21:22Speaker 4: bad anyway, the hijinx was out of control and it
- 21:27Speaker 4: was too much.
- 21:28Speaker 1: And I don't I think it was just a mistake
- 21:32Speaker 1: to position this guy. Like it's enough that her parents
- 21:36Speaker 1: didn't approve of him because he was a non traditional
- 21:40Speaker 1: in their eyes kind of dude. He didn't also need
- 21:43Speaker 1: to be an absolute buffoon.
- 21:45Speaker 2: Right.
- 21:46Speaker 3: In addition, I agree, and I think I think that
- 21:50Speaker 3: has to go to the director. Like I think the
- 21:53Speaker 3: director kind of old school, right, is like, Okay, this
- 21:56Speaker 3: is gonna be really funny. I don't like when Hallmark
- 22:00Speaker 3: movies have to lean so hard into the hygiens. I
- 22:02Speaker 3: just to me, that tells me the story's not that good.
- 22:06Speaker 1: Also, I get it. I don't need you to beat
- 22:10Speaker 1: me over the head with the fact that you don't
- 22:12Speaker 1: think this guy is good enough for your daughter.
- 22:14Speaker 3: Right. Yeah, I'm not a DEMI. You don't have to
- 22:16Speaker 3: like show me eighteen different ways.
- 22:18Speaker 1: Yeah, I can read between the lions, y'all.
- 22:21Speaker 3: Okay, I have one more wish for Yeah, Josie's dad
- 22:26Speaker 3: was a real efen jerk to his wife. Yeah, he
- 22:30Speaker 3: was so demeaning y when it was just the two
- 22:33Speaker 3: of them, and she's like futzing around the house trying
- 22:35Speaker 3: to make it perfect.
- 22:36Speaker 2: He would just say the nastiest comments. I was like, yuck,
- 22:40Speaker 2: I don't like you.
- 22:43Speaker 1: And then they come back together because they remember why
- 22:45Speaker 1: they liked each other.
- 22:46Speaker 2: Y'all.
- 22:46Speaker 1: I don't really believe it because he made these like
- 22:49Speaker 1: snide remarks about just really being unhappy with her presence.
- 22:54Speaker 2: Yeah exactly, And I thought.
- 22:56Speaker 1: Really like, uh, yeah, yeah, I'm supposed to believe you
- 22:59Speaker 1: guys love each other again because now you remember what
- 23:01Speaker 1: it used to be.
- 23:02Speaker 3: Like. I mean, here's the thing, Like I can understand
- 23:05Speaker 3: being married for many many years because I have been,
- 23:08Speaker 3: and there are times that you're really irritated with your spouse, right,
- 23:13Speaker 3: but sometimes yourself keep it to yourself or tell your
- 23:17Speaker 3: best friend whatever.
- 23:18Speaker 2: But also I think that if there's.
- 23:23Speaker 3: Not gonna be that shift like oh now two days later,
- 23:26Speaker 3: I'm all back in love with you again, I think
- 23:28Speaker 3: there needs to be some connecting, you know.
- 23:32Speaker 2: Yes.
- 23:32Speaker 3: The bottom line is is he was real nasty to
- 23:35Speaker 3: her a great and I wish you would have kicked
- 23:38Speaker 3: him to the curb.
- 23:39Speaker 1: My final thing that I wished was not a part
- 23:43Speaker 1: of this movie.
- 23:43Speaker 2: Is look Richard sucks.
- 23:45Speaker 1: He does suck, yes, but he still doesn't deserve his
- 23:49Speaker 1: girlfriend falling for some other guy while they're still together.
- 23:52Speaker 2: Oh that's that. You hate that, don't you look? I
- 23:54Speaker 2: don't care that he like he's a bad guy.
- 23:56Speaker 1: They shouldn't be together, then don't be together.
- 23:59Speaker 2: Yeah, this is this happens.
- 24:01Speaker 1: My husband was watching another Hallmark movie last night, Christmas
- 24:04Speaker 1: at the Plaza, and it's the same situation. They're in
- 24:06Speaker 1: a relationship, they're not a good match. She falls for
- 24:09Speaker 1: other dude who happens to be Ryan Pavie, but they
- 24:11Speaker 1: shouldn't be together, and he's like, girls gotta eat.
- 24:14Speaker 2: And I was like, no, no.
- 24:19Speaker 1: She breaks up with her boyfriend and leaves and goes
- 24:23Speaker 1: to the other.
- 24:23Speaker 2: Guy, Like, no, I don't care that your relationship was bad.
- 24:27Speaker 2: We need to stop positioning.
- 24:28Speaker 1: This says, like, the relationships bad, it's okay for me
- 24:31Speaker 1: to fall in love with somebody else. Yeah, yeah, find
- 24:35Speaker 1: another conflict to Leena on Hallmark.
- 24:37Speaker 2: Yeah, well you know this was twenty fifteen. Hmmm, tice
- 24:41Speaker 2: ages time.
- 24:42Speaker 3: I just think that they've done a little bit better
- 24:47Speaker 3: since then.
- 24:48Speaker 2: I don't a little bit better.
- 24:49Speaker 1: I don't disagree some of their movies are better, although
- 24:53Speaker 1: Will kemp Christmas movie had a girlfriend, Oh yeah with
- 24:56Speaker 1: fresh machete.
- 24:57Speaker 2: Yeah, I agree all right. Time for di see that
- 25:01Speaker 2: I only have one?
- 25:01Speaker 3: Yeah, you mentioned it earlier. It was they were all
- 25:06Speaker 3: in the kitchen towards the end of the movie, and
- 25:09Speaker 3: I believe Richard was going to say something negative about Gridley,
- 25:15Speaker 3: and Paul Campbell executes this line so perfectly. I don't
- 25:19Speaker 3: know if you caught it, but he says, got some
- 25:21Speaker 3: of them to say dick, And I was like literally
- 25:25Speaker 3: gasped while I was watching it because I was like,
- 25:27Speaker 3: I didn't see that coming at all, and kind of
- 25:30Speaker 3: impressed that homework went for it.
- 25:32Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 25:33Speaker 1: I loved that line as well. I've got a bunch
- 25:35Speaker 1: of did to see that moment to do? Tell yes
- 25:38Speaker 1: little moments. Why are we putting the priceless Faberge egg
- 25:41Speaker 1: on the corner of a coffee table, especially when you
- 25:43Speaker 1: have a dog with a big waggly tail in the house.
- 25:46Speaker 3: Yes?
- 25:47Speaker 1: How did they make that Twinkie cake look so good?
- 25:49Speaker 1: Because Twinkies do not have smooth edges? How are they
- 25:52Speaker 1: making it like smooth and rounded? Make that make sense
- 25:55Speaker 1: to me?
- 25:55Speaker 3: I mean a ton of like frosting obviously, which is
- 26:00Speaker 3: still disgusting.
- 26:01Speaker 1: Gridley and Josie go to their high school and they're
- 26:06Speaker 1: looking at a trophy case. They're evidently looking at photos
- 26:08Speaker 1: of themselves. There's not a photo of either of those
- 26:10Speaker 1: people in that trophy case.
- 26:12Speaker 2: There's no way, there's no.
- 26:14Speaker 3: Honestly, that scene kind of stressed me out because I
- 26:16Speaker 3: was like, they're breaking into the school and like they're running. No, no, no.
- 26:20Speaker 2: I would not do that.
- 26:21Speaker 1: No, we need to talk about the green hair. Yes,
- 26:25Speaker 1: first of all, it's not well done, which bothers me.
- 26:28Speaker 1: It's like very clearly like painted on. And then I'm like,
- 26:32Speaker 1: you've got this severe side part. I think you could
- 26:34Speaker 1: probably hide it a little better if you changed your part.
- 26:37Speaker 1: And also, if this family is as old money Faberge
- 26:39Speaker 1: egg money as they seem to be, you're telling me
- 26:41Speaker 1: they don't have a hairstylist, they could have sent her
- 26:44Speaker 1: to to deal with that before they're a big precious
- 26:46Speaker 1: party and photo shoot.
- 26:47Speaker 2: Yeah, good call.
- 26:50Speaker 1: And finally, how is Gridley hauling all of his giant
- 26:54Speaker 1: are it out to the grass morning after morning?
- 26:56Speaker 2: So getting it there? But I don't even see a
- 26:58Speaker 2: bike much as a bike with a trailer. Oh my god,
- 27:01Speaker 2: you're so funny. That's all I got.
- 27:02Speaker 3: Oh right, would you rate this movie? I gave it
- 27:06Speaker 3: three point seven five.
- 27:07Speaker 1: Literally what I have written three point seven five stars
- 27:10Speaker 1: on my notes.
- 27:11Speaker 2: I found it very middle of the road.
- 27:14Speaker 1: Yeah, second half significantly better than the first. Hey, everybody,
