- 0:00Speaker 1: Come on. Uh-huh. I sure will. Good morning, everybody. You
- 0:07Speaker 1: are listening to The Voice. Come on now. Dig me.
- 0:11Speaker 2: One and only Steve Harvey. Man, got a radio show.
- 0:15Speaker 2: What God doing, y'all? Huh?
- 0:17Speaker 1: What he doing? What he doing in your life? He
- 0:19Speaker 1: doing something. He moving. He working. Don't lose your patience, though. See,
- 0:24Speaker 1: I did that before. Don't lose your patience.
- 0:28Speaker 2: Don't get so sick of waiting that you take matters
- 0:32Speaker 2: into your own hands. Don't do that. Boy, you're blowing it.
- 0:37Speaker 2: Listen to me. You're listening to somebody who's done it
- 0:40Speaker 2: that way. I had a dream. I had a vision.
- 0:44Speaker 2: I had some hope. I had some faith. I had
- 0:46Speaker 2: some aspirations. But I got a little impatient waiting on it.
- 0:51Speaker 2: So I tried a couple other things.
- 0:52Speaker 1: Move it along.
- 0:54Speaker 2: But I can't tell you how I messed it up.
- 0:56Speaker 2: Then I messed it up then because God gave me
- 0:58Speaker 2: the power of decision. What I had to do was
- 1:00Speaker 2: then after I took matters into my own hand, messed
- 1:04Speaker 2: it up. Now, guess what? He still got something for me.
- 1:08Speaker 2: But now I got to fix all the mistakes. Now
- 1:10Speaker 2: I got to straighten them out. I got to I
- 1:12Speaker 2: got to suffer some consequences. I got to pay for
- 1:15Speaker 2: my transgressions, all of that.
- 1:17Speaker 1: All of that.
- 1:18Speaker 2: It's got to go down. You can't do something wrong
- 1:22Speaker 2: and not pay for it. You call it karma, call
- 1:26Speaker 2: it whatever you want to call it. Every action has
- 1:29Speaker 2: an equal and opposite reaction.
- 1:31Speaker 1: Every action.
- 1:34Speaker 2: If it just stays sunny all the time, you might
- 1:36Speaker 2: think it's cool, but there's going to be a reaction
- 1:38Speaker 2: to it.
- 1:39Speaker 1: Ain't no dark, ain't no shade, ain't no break, ain't
- 1:42Speaker 1: no rain. Going to be hard if it's just sunny
- 1:45Speaker 1: all the time. Vice versa.
- 1:47Speaker 2: So you need you need the opposite. You need the
- 1:51Speaker 2: darkness so you can get your break from that sun.
- 1:54Speaker 2: You need the rain so you can nourish the roots.
- 1:57Speaker 2: So that sun, it can soak up the sun and
- 2:00Speaker 2: get the benefit of the sun. If you don't get
- 2:02Speaker 2: the opposite, you got a problem, man. And it happens
- 2:05Speaker 2: throughout nature. It happens throughout your life. Don't think that
- 2:09Speaker 2: you can do wrong and not have to pay for that.
- 2:14Speaker 2: What you think this is, man? We think, man, because
- 2:17Speaker 2: we made a decision that we think is best for us.
- 2:20Speaker 2: And no matter how it affect nobody else, we got
- 2:22Speaker 2: the right to make that call.
- 2:24Speaker 1: No, you don't.
- 2:25Speaker 2: Whoever is telling you that whoever's misguiding you into the
- 2:28Speaker 2: gang life, telling you, yeah, man, you need to be
- 2:31Speaker 2: this way to be down with us. I tell you what,
- 2:33Speaker 2: get yourself stuck on Chuck with that gang. See how
- 2:35Speaker 2: many of them be there for you. Oh, they'll go
- 2:38Speaker 2: around the corner with you and start shooting. But, okay,
- 2:41Speaker 2: when it's time to do some time and they can
- 2:44Speaker 2: lessen their sentence, you're going to get that time. They're
- 2:46Speaker 2: going to point their finger dead at you. I watch
- 2:48Speaker 2: 48 Hours all the time, man. I watch Lock Up
- 2:51Speaker 2: Raw all the time. All the time, man. All the time.
- 2:55Speaker 2: Ain't no real cold dudes out there just holding to
- 2:57Speaker 2: the mantra and sticking to it.
- 3:00Speaker 1: Even the mob turn stateside evidence, go fed, all that.
- 3:04Speaker 2: Now, we in the hood, we didn't create this ignorant
- 3:06Speaker 2: mess called no snitching with that ignorant mess.
- 3:09Speaker 1: You don't even understand. No snitching was created by criminals
- 3:12Speaker 1: as a code of honor.
- 3:14Speaker 2: If you do dirt and you get busted doing the dirt,
- 3:17Speaker 2: don't bring my name up if I was with you.
- 3:19Speaker 1: That's a code of honor amongst the thieves.
- 3:21Speaker 2: Now, so many code of honor thieves that came out
- 3:24Speaker 2: of prison ain't got no honor. They done bought their
- 3:26Speaker 2: stuff back to the street. Now, it's all in the neighborhood.
- 3:28Speaker 2: No snitching. No snitching. You got to be crazy. That's
- 3:32Speaker 2: for people who disobey the law. That's who people have
- 3:35Speaker 2: made a code of honor amongst themselves as thieves. Hey, man,
- 3:38Speaker 2: if you get busted, don't drag me down with you.
- 3:41Speaker 2: Just do your time. Oh, man, you can't bring that
- 3:44Speaker 2: stuff out here to me. I'm a law abiding citizen. Dog,
- 3:47Speaker 2: I'm trying to live right over here, man. I don't
- 3:49Speaker 2: want no crack house up street from my mama's house.
- 3:52Speaker 2: I'm trying to do right out here, man. You can't
- 3:54Speaker 2: do wrong and expect wrong not to come to you.
- 3:57Speaker 2: You got to make a decision every day to do right.
- 4:00Speaker 2: That guy ain't got no protection from you on dirt.
- 4:02Speaker 2: You got what you got coming. You made a decision.
- 4:07Speaker 2: You go down there to get some, you might get got. See,
- 4:11Speaker 2: we got to, come on, I'm talking to so many
- 4:14Speaker 2: men out here right now. I should have said that
- 4:16Speaker 2: in the beginning, but my conversation kind of got away
- 4:19Speaker 2: from me. I was going to talk to you about
- 4:20Speaker 2: something else this morning, but this just owe me, man,
- 4:22Speaker 2: because our communities, man, it's just going to the pot, man,
- 4:26Speaker 2: because ain't nobody caring about nobody else. Don't nobody care
- 4:31Speaker 2: when they see that young dude over there doing wrong.
- 4:33Speaker 2: Look at them fools over there. Man, go over there
- 4:34Speaker 2: and talk to one of them. Pull them to the side, man.
- 4:38Speaker 2: You might not be able to approach the group, but
- 4:40Speaker 2: you can approach an individual. Come here, young man. Let
- 4:43Speaker 2: me talk to you. I saw you the other day. Man,
- 4:45Speaker 2: you look like you got something going on in your life.
- 4:47Speaker 2: What's happening with you? Let me talk to you, man.
- 4:49Speaker 2: Let me share something I learned. I was doing what
- 4:51Speaker 2: you was doing. You know, it's like Tommy did a
- 4:54Speaker 2: prank phone call one time as a limo driver. And
- 4:58Speaker 2: the dude, the prank was he called this limo company
- 5:01Speaker 2: to ask this limo driver to take him to this
- 5:05Speaker 2: location late at night. And the limo driver got a
- 5:09Speaker 2: young business. He going, yeah, OK, I got you. I
- 5:11Speaker 2: don't normally work like that. But how long you need?
- 5:13Speaker 2: He said for just about an hour. He said, well,
- 5:15Speaker 2: I'm going to charge you for the full three, though,
- 5:17Speaker 2: because a three hour minimum. Tommy told him now I
- 5:20Speaker 2: just need it for one hour. He said, OK, I'll
- 5:22Speaker 2: give you a break. Young man, you're trying to do
- 5:24Speaker 2: something where you want to go. He gave an address.
- 5:27Speaker 2: The man stopped writing. He said, that's a bank. He said, yeah.
- 5:31Speaker 2: He said, you want to go to the bank at
- 5:33Speaker 2: 1230 at night? He said, yeah. And I'm going to
- 5:36Speaker 2: be in for a few minutes. And when I come
- 5:39Speaker 2: out that bank, I need for you to flow it.
- 5:42Speaker 2: That to do with the limo. He stopped writing. He said,
- 5:45Speaker 2: hold on. Hold on, man. You want me to take
- 5:49Speaker 2: you to a bank 1230 at night? You're going to
- 5:52Speaker 2: be in there for a few minutes and you're going
- 5:54Speaker 2: to come out and you want me to floor it.
- 5:57Speaker 2: He said, sir, I don't do stuff like that. He said,
- 5:59Speaker 2: you got the wrong company. He said, what made you
- 6:01Speaker 2: call here? He said, hey, man, don't worry about that.
- 6:03Speaker 2: You a limo company. You just drive. He stopped and
- 6:06Speaker 2: took the time out. He said, young man, let me
- 6:09Speaker 2: tell you something. He said, I've been down before. I've
- 6:12Speaker 2: been locked up before. It ain't pretty. He said, that's
- 6:16Speaker 2: what's wrong with you young people today. Instead of going
- 6:18Speaker 2: to get a job trying to work your way, you
- 6:20Speaker 2: always looking for some fast money. He said, I'm going
- 6:22Speaker 2: to tell you what I already know. Don't go down
- 6:24Speaker 2: there messing with them people's money like that because they
- 6:26Speaker 2: love that money way more than they love you. And
- 6:29Speaker 2: they're going to do something to you down there. Now,
- 6:30Speaker 2: you stop this foolishness. And I'm not carrying you nowhere.
- 6:34Speaker 2: But I'm going to take a little bit of time
- 6:36Speaker 2: out to tell you something. Don't go down here messing
- 6:39Speaker 2: with these people's money because it ain't going to go good.
- 6:42Speaker 2: They're going to take care of their business when it
- 6:43Speaker 2: comes to that money. Tommy kept insisting to this man
- 6:46Speaker 2: to pick him up in the limo. It was a
- 6:47Speaker 2: prank phone call. But the point I'm making is the
- 6:50Speaker 2: man took our time. He could have just hung the
- 6:52Speaker 2: phone up. But you know what he said? He said,
- 6:54Speaker 2: hold up, young man. Let me hip you to something.
- 6:57Speaker 2: Because the brother had been locked up before. He said, no, no, no. See,
- 7:00Speaker 2: I've done that when I was young. Now I'm going
- 7:02Speaker 2: to stop and I'm going to take some moment out
- 7:03Speaker 2: to tell you I'm up here working, man, trying to
- 7:05Speaker 2: earn an honest living. I ain't going back down there
- 7:08Speaker 2: because I don't. They make you eat what they want
- 7:10Speaker 2: you to eat. You don't want the food. You've got
- 7:12Speaker 2: to get up when they say get up. You've got
- 7:13Speaker 2: to stay where they say stay. Live with who they
- 7:15Speaker 2: say live. He said, man, you don't want that. And
- 7:18Speaker 2: he just tried to talk the young man out of it.
- 7:21Speaker 2: You can change a young man's mind with a conversation.
- 7:24Speaker 2: A conversation can change a young man's mind. Most of
- 7:27Speaker 2: these young men that are misguided ain't having conversations with
- 7:30Speaker 2: real men.
- 7:32Speaker 1: They just not having them.
- 7:33Speaker 2: And it's up to us who know what manhood is,
- 7:36Speaker 2: is to start delivering the message. The problem that we
- 7:39Speaker 2: have in our communities, we can solve ourselves. It didn't
- 7:42Speaker 2: escalate it to a point because we who are men
- 7:45Speaker 2: won't stop on our corporate climb and our day-to-day making
- 7:48Speaker 2: money and trying to ball out. We won't stop and
- 7:51Speaker 2: grab some of these young soldiers and tell them the
- 7:53Speaker 2: truth about manhood.
- 7:55Speaker 1: That's the real deal, okay? So I went down to
- 7:57Speaker 1: where they came from. You're listening to the Steve Harvey
- 8:00Speaker 1: Morning Show.
