- 0:39SPEAKER_04: Welcome in everybody to the Telic and Tech Podcast, powered by the Nation, part of the Nation Podcast Network.
- 0:45SPEAKER_04: I am your host, Steven Rodriguez, my co-host Tristan McGonagall.
- 0:48SPEAKER_04: Tristan, um last weekend sucked.
- 0:53SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I'm not gonna lie to you.
- 0:54SPEAKER_03: I think I've been better.
- 0:55SPEAKER_03: I've had better Mondays.
- 0:57SPEAKER_03: Mondays suck in general, but whenever you go to work and everyone's like, hey, lol to you, it's like, hey, how about you shut up?
- 1:03SPEAKER_03: It's like it's not great.
- 1:04SPEAKER_04: So things are not good.
- 1:07SPEAKER_04: Um yeah, you know, I think we're overblowing it a little bit.
- 1:10SPEAKER_04: I wasn't that mad um after the game, you know, but much like what we said on on last week's pod, uh you we don't really like to watch college football after we see our team lose.
- 1:21SPEAKER_04: You know, no, I don't.
- 1:22SPEAKER_04: Not our favorite thing in the world.
- 1:24SPEAKER_04: I didn't watch any football after tech lost.
- 1:27SPEAKER_03: College football ceases to exist once tech loses.
- 1:30SPEAKER_03: Same goes for college basketball, don't worry, like it's any of the sports.
- 1:33SPEAKER_03: If tech loses that day, I'm out.
- 1:36SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I mean, March Madness, I'll probably still tune in, but you know, uh like when it's just a regular, regular old Friday or Tuesday or whatever.
- 1:46SPEAKER_04: Nope, not gonna watch.
- 1:47SPEAKER_04: Sorry, can't make me.
- 1:51SPEAKER_03: Absolutely, man.
- 1:52SPEAKER_03: But you're you're right.
- 1:53SPEAKER_03: I mean, our hearts said we were gonna win this game last episode, but we all had in our brains that it was gonna be an uphill climb, and it was.
- 2:01SPEAKER_03: That's exactly what it was.
- 2:03SPEAKER_04: Yeah, and listen, nothing was pointing towards tech winning, it wasn't like Kansas State was clearly the better team.
- 2:10SPEAKER_04: They were a like eight and a half point favorite.
- 2:13SPEAKER_04: Um, it was in Manhattan.
- 2:15SPEAKER_04: Like, we, you know, nothing was pointing towards, hey, Texas Tech is gonna win this game, but of course, we drink the Kool-Aid, we're coming off a win against UT.
- 2:23SPEAKER_04: We're like, yes, of course, we're gonna win undefeated the rest of the year.
- 2:26SPEAKER_04: But the disappointing part of this, and it even goes back to like our preseason episodes where we're like, yeah, we're probably gonna lose to Kansas State, but yeah, you know, we're probably gonna start the season two and four, three and three, whatever.
- 2:40SPEAKER_04: The most disappointing part is actually watching what this Texas Tech team can do and just not being consistent.
- 2:49SPEAKER_04: Like the the highs for this team are really good.
- 2:54SPEAKER_04: Like that that drive we had at the end of the first half, and then stopping them three and out, and then going and kicking the field goal to make it a three-point game after being horrible for the first quarter and a half.
- 3:04SPEAKER_04: I like you just saw you see how good this team can be, and they're just not consistent throughout the entirety of the game.
- 3:14SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and you saw inconsistency on both sides of the ball this time around.
- 3:17SPEAKER_03: You know, before whenever we were complaining about a loss, it was the offense's inconsistency, but the defense was inconsistent in this game as well.
- 3:24SPEAKER_03: Uh, Kansas State really uh piled on the points with big plays, and obviously that's on defense when we let that kind of stuff happen.
- 3:31SPEAKER_03: Um, and yeah, yeah, I think that's a that's a great way to look at this.
- 3:35SPEAKER_03: I think that perhaps we have a road game problem, uh, but particularly our offense.
- 3:40SPEAKER_03: I think our offense has a major road game problem.
- 3:43SPEAKER_03: Don't get me wrong, both environments we've walked into have been against ranked teams and hostile environments, pack uh stadiums, um, against really, really good teams.
- 3:51SPEAKER_03: So it's not a shame to be kind of shook in those stadiums, but you kind of just hope for a little more killer instinct to uh play more consistent ball, even on the road.
- 4:02SPEAKER_04: Yeah, and I mean, unfortunately, uh we're opening up with three really tough home games to start this season.
- 4:08SPEAKER_04: Uh NC State, Kansas State, and now Oklahoma State coming up.
- 4:12SPEAKER_04: And uh, you know, again, it's just like you see what this team can do.
- 4:18SPEAKER_04: You see how good Donovan Smith looks at times and how terrible he looks at times.
- 4:25SPEAKER_04: And you're just like, man, if we were just uh had a little more consistency, uh, we would be a really, really good team.
- 4:32SPEAKER_04: And that's the kind of lumps you take when you're starting a sophomore quarterback.
- 4:36SPEAKER_04: Um, let's talk, let's talk about Donovan Smith.
- 4:39SPEAKER_04: Um, I think we should start there because he I have been Donovan Smith's number one fan going to the beginning of the year.
- 4:49SPEAKER_04: I wanted him to start from the very beginning and do everything like that.
- 4:53SPEAKER_04: Um I slipped up.
- 4:55SPEAKER_04: If y'all don't know by now, I run the Twitter account.
- 4:57SPEAKER_04: I use that as my account.
- 4:58SPEAKER_04: Uh, I don't run my personal anymore, but I tweeted from the pods account.
- 5:03SPEAKER_04: I was like, hey, wouldn't mind seeing Baron Morton.
- 5:07SPEAKER_04: You know, Donovan has not didn't look good for the first quarter and a half.
- 5:11SPEAKER_04: He just threw, I think, two uh passes that were probably 10 feet off um and just looked shook.
- 5:19SPEAKER_04: And that's why I tweeted that.
- 5:20SPEAKER_04: And I was like, hey, yeah, maybe throw in Baron Morton because clearly we're not doing anything on offense, and a lot of it is stemming towards Donovan.
- 5:28SPEAKER_04: Um, and then what does he do?
- 5:30SPEAKER_04: He responds like he's been doing all season.
- 5:33SPEAKER_04: He makes a bad play, he goes and responds and gets us back into the game.
- 5:37SPEAKER_04: Um, and then fourth quarter comes around once again.
- 5:42SPEAKER_04: You know, we saw kind of that first quarter, Donovan.
- 5:45SPEAKER_04: And, you know, he fumbled, he uh wasn't completing passes and everything.
- 5:50SPEAKER_04: And uh that part is just so frustrating, and it's just something we have to deal with.
- 5:56SPEAKER_03: Yeah, he couldn't take another ball either.
- 5:58SPEAKER_03: I mean, it wasn't on top of that fumble, two interceptions.
- 6:01SPEAKER_03: I mean, it's just it was really frustrating to watch him play this game.
- 6:04SPEAKER_03: And talking about Baron Morton, I don't think is a flat negative from your side.
- 6:09SPEAKER_03: I mean, like you're you've probably been Donovan Smith's number one supporter uh across the tech Twitter sphere and podcast sphere, I would say.
- 6:18SPEAKER_03: Um, and wanting to see this guy who apparently just a razor thin margin doesn't have the job, you think maybe you see what he can do in it.
- 6:27SPEAKER_03: I and I get that.
- 6:28SPEAKER_03: And I think a lot of us are starting to become a little more excited about the thoughts of Tyler Schuck coming back.
- 6:35SPEAKER_03: I think that we all absolutely will look at uh putting him back in the game once he's healthy because right after the UT game, we made some quick decisions saying, you know what, we ride Donovan Smith until the wheels come off.
- 6:50SPEAKER_03: And I think you could say that a wheel came off in this Kansas State game.
- 6:54SPEAKER_03: We just we just don't know if he has the uh the maturity and the experience to get him through tough road games, you know.
- 7:01SPEAKER_03: Whenever they whenever everything's going against you, he seems to make stupid mistakes, and uh it might just be an experience problem, a confidence problem you that you gain for through uh through game time, and then just maybe he just doesn't have it yet.
- 7:14SPEAKER_03: And that's why I'm excited to see Tyler Shuck come back.
- 7:16SPEAKER_03: And maybe you kind of think about a spark with Barron Morton, who's also an incredibly talented quarterback.
- 7:21SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I mean it's those it's those big mistakes that really get you with Donovan.
- 7:26SPEAKER_04: It's uh it's taking unwanted sacks, it's uh you know, it's just not getting the ball out quick enough, it's throwing the ball behind the defender, throwing it in or a pick six or something like that.
- 7:37SPEAKER_04: And it's just like, man, you know, you do so much good, and when you look good, you look really good, but uh it's those big mistakes that that really cost you.
- 7:48SPEAKER_04: And they, I mean, to be honest, you know, looking now at what Houston is and looking at what Texas Tech is, we should have beat that team by probably two or three touchdowns.
- 7:58SPEAKER_04: And, you know, it was there was a point where we were gonna lose because Donovan just threw an interception and they returned in and were already in field goal range with like a minute left.
- 8:09SPEAKER_04: So, you know, I am still pro Donovan Smith.
- 8:15SPEAKER_04: I I really like the kid, I really think he's got a lot of potential to be a great quarterback in the future.
- 8:21SPEAKER_04: Is that gonna happen this year?
- 8:23SPEAKER_04: Probably not.
- 8:24SPEAKER_04: Uh, should you go back to Tyler Shuck when he gets healthy?
- 8:27SPEAKER_04: Probably.
- 8:28SPEAKER_04: Um, but you know, it's it's it's just difficult.
- 8:33SPEAKER_04: It's difficult seeing him struggle and go through these aches and pains.
- 8:37SPEAKER_04: Um when it's also hard because you have the prodigal son behind him, you know, and in the guy, the West Texas kid, the four-star recruit, and uh, you know, the unknown factor of just not seeing Baron Morton on the field yet kind of gets you high.
- 8:55SPEAKER_04: And a lot of people ride that way too much, in my opinion.
- 9:00SPEAKER_04: I mean, people have been calling for Baron Morton ever since Shuck went down, and those people I'll never understand.
- 9:06SPEAKER_04: Um, but yeah, Donovan was super frustrated in this game.
- 9:11SPEAKER_03: This guy's got some peaks and valleys, and it's it's kind of fair to be pinning this on him a lot.
- 9:16SPEAKER_03: I mean, because I mean, while the running game on paper doesn't look like it got a whole lot of yardage, I think the running backs played pretty well.
- 9:23SPEAKER_04: They did play well, they needed to be used more, exactly.
- 9:27SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and obviously, you know, Xavier White stepped up when uh Miles Price went down, and it's just I really do think that this was a uh quarterback, maybe an offensive line problem in this hostile environment.
- 9:39SPEAKER_03: And I know it's it's easy to put the blame on your ball handler, but it's just kind of where it is.
- 9:46SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah.
- 9:47SPEAKER_04: I thought the the play calling wasn't um the best.
- 9:53SPEAKER_04: I thought you had some great drives where you got the running game involved, and uh you're looking at these stats.
- 9:59SPEAKER_04: Sir Roderick Thompson ran it six times.
- 10:02SPEAKER_04: You know, you can't have I know he went out with an injury, but you can't have you should have ran Sir Roderick Thompson 12 times at least.
- 10:09SPEAKER_04: So Taj Brooks probably should have got more than 10 carries, even though he was only at a 3.9 average.
- 10:15SPEAKER_04: But um, I thought when you got the running game going, you moved the ball downfield and good things happened for you if you're Texas Tech.
- 10:24SPEAKER_04: And um you got away from that.
- 10:25SPEAKER_04: And you let you you give the ball to Donovan, he threw 48 times.
- 10:30SPEAKER_04: Um, and for a guy that for the majority of the game just was frazzled and didn't really look like uh he belonged out there, and you gave him the ball 48 times, and then he rushed, I think, another, I don't know, it says 18 attempts, but that counts for sacks and all that kind of stuff.
- 10:46SPEAKER_04: But I'm sure he rushed another, I don't know, eight to ten times.
- 10:49SPEAKER_04: Yeah, and so you know, um it's that part of it's frustrating because as good of a game as Xavier White, you know, Trey Cleveland had that awesome catch.
- 11:00SPEAKER_04: Miles Price was doing well until he got hurt.
- 11:03SPEAKER_04: Um, you needed to get the running game going and you didn't, and uh K-State just absolutely killed you on big plays.
- 11:09SPEAKER_03: And K-State killed you on the ground, you know.
- 11:11SPEAKER_03: K-State killed the killed you with their legs.
- 11:14SPEAKER_03: We had the opportunity to turn the heat right back on them to do the same thing.
- 11:17SPEAKER_03: So a bit of a questioning play call there from the staff, but the O-line doesn't do them a whole lot of favors either.
- 11:22SPEAKER_03: So that's it's not fair to put it totally on the play calling.
- 11:26SPEAKER_03: Um, but geez, did Adrian Martinez and Ducevan just slaughter you on the ground?
- 11:31SPEAKER_03: That's where we lost the game.
- 11:33SPEAKER_03: They would just break away with these huge runs, just like they did against OU, and you end up on the losing side of it.
- 11:39SPEAKER_03: And that's just it's just frustrating to watch, especially whenever your defense starts kind of putting it together, making some great stands, and then they let these big plays where everything just kind of washes down the drain.
- 11:48SPEAKER_03: It's just frustrating to watch.
- 11:49SPEAKER_03: It was overall a pretty frustrating game to watch.
- 11:53SPEAKER_04: Yeah, no, absolutely.
- 11:54SPEAKER_04: Um, I think you look at their touchdown drives, Kansas State.
- 12:00SPEAKER_04: Uh, two plays, 75 yards, 40 seconds.
- 12:02SPEAKER_04: That was their first one.
- 12:03SPEAKER_04: Uh Martinez broke off the huge run and then ran it in again uh for the touchdown.
- 12:09SPEAKER_04: Um two plays, 77 yards for them to go up 30 to uh or uh 20 to 13, one minute possession.
- 12:17SPEAKER_04: Um three plays, 76 yards, one minute possession, touchdown to go up 27 to 20 after we tie the game.
- 12:25SPEAKER_04: You can this defense really is so good, but they just give up big plays too often.
- 12:34SPEAKER_04: I mean, they hold it down, they held it down for the majority of the game.
- 12:37SPEAKER_04: Tyree was awesome.
- 12:39SPEAKER_04: I thought Krishan had a great game again, Jalen Hutchings, all those guys, but it's those big plays that they and in this instance, it was Adrian Martinez just taken off three separate times for 60 plus yard gains, and Deuce Vaughn had one of those as well.
- 12:54SPEAKER_04: And um, you know, it's uh it's frustrating because we said last week Adrian Martinez has to beat you, and he did.
- 13:03SPEAKER_04: So I mean, credit to them.
- 13:05SPEAKER_04: I am going to be so thrilled when we never have to play Deuce Vaughn again.
- 13:09SPEAKER_03: Yes, please.
- 13:10SPEAKER_03: I mean, he hate him.
- 13:11SPEAKER_03: I hate him.
- 13:12SPEAKER_03: He definitely definitely has NFL potential, man.
- 13:14SPEAKER_03: He's he's one of the best players in this league.
- 13:16SPEAKER_03: Uh, he's just a super talented kid.
- 13:18SPEAKER_03: And it's hard, so it's it's hard to be mad whenever you get beat by a guy that just that talented.
- 13:22SPEAKER_03: He's he's just that scary.
- 13:24SPEAKER_03: Um, and I I kind of feel like my statement was right.
- 13:29SPEAKER_03: Like, I don't think this makes Tulane a better team than Texas Tech or Oklahoma.
- 13:33SPEAKER_03: I really do think Tulane walked into Manhattan and woke up Kansas State.
- 13:37SPEAKER_03: Now Kansas State is officially this dark horse that everyone was talking about that wasn't really showing it until now.
- 13:43SPEAKER_03: So I really do think Kansas State can make a real run to the to the Big 12 championship.
- 13:47SPEAKER_03: And heck, I mean, we're we're one and one.
- 13:50SPEAKER_03: I mean, we're not out of a contention for a great season by any means.
- 13:54SPEAKER_03: And I think if we if we win at least seven games, I think we've exceeded our expectations.
- 13:59SPEAKER_03: Um, I like I said, I think six wins was a win for us this year, but with with the record we have now, it's still better than a whole lot of people thought it would be.
- 14:07SPEAKER_03: So overall, I don't I hope our team isn't losing faith.
- 14:10SPEAKER_03: I hope our fans aren't losing faith.
- 14:11SPEAKER_03: That's kind of about the position I'm in right now.
- 14:13SPEAKER_03: That's why I wasn't that mad when we lost.
- 14:15SPEAKER_03: It's like this is a game you're supposed to lose whenever you look at it.
- 14:19SPEAKER_03: So I wasn't that mad.
- 14:20SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I mean, if you if we're looking back at this at the end of the season, I don't think we're gonna be too mad at this loss, too upset at it.
- 14:26SPEAKER_04: Um, you just uh for me at least, you just see the potential from this team and what they can be, and that's so frustrating seeing how they've what they put out there in certain games.
- 14:37SPEAKER_03: My my final thought on it is um, you know, I kind of opened up this segment saying that Tex Tech might have a road game problem, but I'm very proud to say that we don't have a home game problem.
- 14:52SPEAKER_03: We are still undefeated at home.
- 14:55SPEAKER_03: And what have I been begging the Tex Tech football team to be doing these past few years?
- 15:00SPEAKER_03: And like it's been my my theme on this talking tech podcast is I just want us to win at home again.
- 15:07SPEAKER_03: The road games can come later.
- 15:09SPEAKER_03: The pri I want the priority to be defend the house, and we've been doing that, and that's how you get fans to buy in.
- 15:15SPEAKER_03: And I think our fans are still bought in because we haven't been sit home packing, disappointed from the in Lubbock yet.
- 15:21SPEAKER_03: And uh, hopefully it takes a few games for that to actually set in once that happens.
- 15:24SPEAKER_03: Hopefully, it won't happen, but you get what I'm saying.
- 15:27SPEAKER_03: A road game is something we can deal with as things go on, but I'm very happy with the home record right now.
- 15:32SPEAKER_04: Yeah, look, you're three and two when a lot of people expected you to be one and four.
- 15:36SPEAKER_04: So, from that perspective, no, you're not disappointed with the season, you're not you're disappointed with certain parts of watching this team, uh, but you're not disappointed with the season overall.
- 15:47SPEAKER_04: You're really happy to be three and two right now if you're Texas Tech.
- 15:50SPEAKER_04: Backup quarterback.
- 15:50SPEAKER_04: With a backup, yeah, exactly.
- 15:52SPEAKER_04: We we we haven't even had Tyler Shuck.
- 15:54SPEAKER_04: And I don't know if Tyler Shuck is gonna be the guy who solves all these issues, but he may be more consistent.
- 16:02SPEAKER_04: We'll have to see.
- 16:03SPEAKER_04: Uh, we haven't seen a lot of Tyler Shuck in a Texas Tech uniform, unfortunately, even going back to last year.
- 16:08SPEAKER_04: So um I guess that kind of ties into Oklahoma State.
- 16:12SPEAKER_04: When we're talking about Oklahoma State, um, it doesn't look like Tyler Shuck's gonna be available for this one.
- 16:19SPEAKER_04: But do you stick with Donovan Smith against Oklahoma State?
- 16:26SPEAKER_03: I think this week is a week where you genuinely go into practice and see who wins the starting position for this weekend.
- 16:34SPEAKER_03: I mean, I really don't think you owe it to Donovan Smith anymore to just, you know, confidently say he's the starting quarterback right now.
- 16:42SPEAKER_03: You know, he'll obviously he earns that right after he uh takes down UT, but to see the level of consistency that he didn't show in Kansas State, I think it's fair to allow Barry More to have a genuine shot at the starting position.
- 16:56SPEAKER_03: I really do.
- 16:56SPEAKER_03: I really think that practice should be a real indicator of what happens this Saturday.
- 17:01SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I I I kind of disagree a little bit.
- 17:04SPEAKER_04: I think you roll with Donovan regardless, um, and you see how it plays out.
- 17:10SPEAKER_04: Uh, you have one more game until Tyler Shuck probably returns, which is after the bye week against West Virginia.
- 17:17SPEAKER_04: Um and really, unless Donovan blows us away and beats Oklahoma State by two touchdowns or like you know, 10 points or something, and doesn't throw any interceptions and actually looks sharp throughout the entire game.
- 17:30SPEAKER_04: Which would be awesome.
- 17:31SPEAKER_04: Which would be great.
- 17:32SPEAKER_04: I'm rooting for him.
- 17:33SPEAKER_04: I hope that happens.
- 17:35SPEAKER_04: But if that doesn't happen and we lose to Oklahoma State like we probably should, you just go back to Tyler Shuck.
- 17:42SPEAKER_04: And that's not I don't think that's unfair to Barron Morton.
- 17:46SPEAKER_04: I think that's just kind of the the situation right now.
- 17:50SPEAKER_04: Um you give if Tyler Shuck is healthy and he's throwing fine and everything's good after the bye week, you roll with him.
- 17:57SPEAKER_04: And what a better game to get him back on track than against West Virginia at home in Lubbock.
- 18:01SPEAKER_04: So yes, uh I I don't think you see Baron Morton in this game unless Donovan is absolutely just brutal in the first half.
- 18:10SPEAKER_04: And then maybe you potentially throw out the kid to you know see what he can do against a really good team in Oklahoma State in Stillwater.
- 18:17SPEAKER_04: But um, I don't think you give Baron Morton his first start in against Oklahoma State in Stillwater for any reason.
- 18:25SPEAKER_04: So I think you roll with Donovan and see how it plays out, and then we'll go from there.
- 18:29SPEAKER_03: Look, I think that I think that's a logical approach.
- 18:31SPEAKER_03: I think that makes sense.
- 18:33SPEAKER_03: But Road Donovan has been bad Donovan, and it's good, it doesn't seem like it'd be any different in Stillwater.
- 18:41SPEAKER_03: Again, it's gonna be another pop in crowd because they're undefeated, they're top 10 in the nation to sell real Big 12 chances here, real playoff chances here.
- 18:49SPEAKER_03: It's not looking good for our Red Raiders.
- 18:52SPEAKER_03: I really do think that you go into Sprat this week to with whoever uh seems to want it more, to be honest.
- 18:57SPEAKER_03: Okay, that's what do you have to lose?
- 18:59SPEAKER_03: You have this mountain ahead of you that you really should not be winning this game.
- 19:03SPEAKER_03: So if one if if the if the uh prodigal son wins the job, why not?
- 19:07SPEAKER_03: Why not go for it?
- 19:08SPEAKER_04: Okay, I I yeah, and I mean I don't I don't think that's necessarily wrong.
- 19:13SPEAKER_04: I just uh I just think you go with Donovan.
- 19:15SPEAKER_04: And then after the bye week, you got Tyler Shuck anyway.
- 19:18SPEAKER_04: So um, you know, you're gonna start Tyler Shuck against West Virginia, in my opinion, uh, unless Donovan goes and wins this game somehow.
- 19:25SPEAKER_04: Um Oklahoma State coming off a uh big win in Waco against Baylor.
- 19:31SPEAKER_04: Um, they looked sharp.
- 19:33SPEAKER_04: Um, much to my chagrin.
- 19:35SPEAKER_04: Uh Spencer Sanders actually looks like a dude.
- 19:39SPEAKER_04: And uh he looks ugly.
- 19:41SPEAKER_04: He's not a good looking guy.
- 19:42SPEAKER_04: And now we should talk about him.
- 19:44SPEAKER_04: Should we're not gonna talk about any more about Spencer Sanders' looks.
- 19:51SPEAKER_03: All right, that was mean.
- 19:52SPEAKER_03: No, that was mean whenever we look back on it.
- 19:54SPEAKER_03: It was mean.
- 19:55SPEAKER_03: Hey, Spencer Sanders, if you're looking at this, listening to this podcast, I'm sorry, I'm ugly too.
- 19:59SPEAKER_03: So is Steve.
- 20:00SPEAKER_04: We're all ugly.
- 20:00SPEAKER_03: We're not here to just throw you under the bus like that.
- 20:05SPEAKER_03: You got two ugly boys logging.
- 20:07SPEAKER_04: Rescinded.
- 20:08SPEAKER_03: Uh redacted.
- 20:10SPEAKER_04: Redacted.
- 20:11SPEAKER_04: No way.
- 20:12SPEAKER_04: I don't want to, I don't want that on the record.
- 20:13SPEAKER_04: I did not say that.
- 20:14SPEAKER_04: Don't put it in the papers that I said that.
- 20:16SPEAKER_04: Um no, Spencer Sanders can beat you in two ways.
- 20:20SPEAKER_04: He can throw the ball and he can run the ball.
- 20:22SPEAKER_04: Um, it's what we kind of want Donovan Smith to be.
- 20:25SPEAKER_04: Uh, and uh Spencer Sanders is obviously a very experienced player playing in the sleep.
- 20:30SPEAKER_04: Yeah, um, almost led Oklahoma State to a Big 12 championship last year.
- 20:34SPEAKER_04: Um, now a lot of that was on their defense, and now it's looking like their offense is their really key part of this year's team, but their defense is still solid.
- 20:42SPEAKER_04: Um, they're 4-0.
- 20:43SPEAKER_04: They've already had their bye week, they're coming off a game in Waco.
- 20:47SPEAKER_04: Um, they're returning back home.
- 20:49SPEAKER_04: I don't expect us to win.
- 20:51SPEAKER_04: I don't think anybody expects us to win, which would be awesome if we pulled out the upset here.
- 20:56SPEAKER_04: But they are now the number seven team in the nation and um are just pretty balanced.
- 21:02SPEAKER_04: They're just a balanced, really good team.
- 21:03SPEAKER_04: Uh, well coached, everything of the sort.
- 21:06SPEAKER_04: Um, yeah, I don't expect to win this game.
- 21:10SPEAKER_03: This this team is officially proven and it's chalk full of veterans.
- 21:14SPEAKER_03: You got the veteran coach.
- 21:15SPEAKER_03: I really think that this job, this, this team is is top three potential in the Big 12, and therefore championship potential, like I was saying.
- 21:23SPEAKER_03: So I there's not a whole lot of holes you can see here in Poke in this Oklahoma State poke team.
- 21:29SPEAKER_03: Nice.
- 21:30SPEAKER_03: Oh, thank you.
- 21:31SPEAKER_03: Uh, so like I said, man, I I really don't feel good about the strip to Silwater.
- 21:35SPEAKER_03: And I just think I just think that's a a tip of the hat to Oklahoma State more than it is a lack of belief in our team.
- 21:40SPEAKER_03: I just don't think we're there yet.
- 21:41SPEAKER_03: I just don't think we have that Oklahoma State team quite yet.
- 21:44SPEAKER_03: But that's why we have Joe McGuire.
- 21:45SPEAKER_03: It's a first year teacher, uh teacher, first year teacher, first year coach uh on on staff here who's building up his team.
- 21:52SPEAKER_03: I just don't know if we're really uh ready for that sort of uh um uh job yet.
- 21:59SPEAKER_03: I I don't I don't know what what word am I looking for.
- 22:02SPEAKER_03: We're not ready for that task at hand.
- 22:05SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it's a really tough one.
- 22:07SPEAKER_04: It's gonna be it's it's ridiculous that you have to go to Raleigh, Manhattan, and Stillwater in your first three uh roads.
- 22:15SPEAKER_04: And you know, we're kind of gonna get that uh I don't know.
- 22:20SPEAKER_04: We're uh I don't know.
- 22:21SPEAKER_03: We're at a loss for words because we're disappointed in how we these episodes are never fun, they're not, you know, they're not they're we try to make them at least fun to listen to, but that's hard.
- 22:32SPEAKER_04: It's hard, it's hard because every game so far this season, we've gone in thinking, oh, there's a chance.
- 22:40SPEAKER_04: This one, I don't really have that feeling.
- 22:41SPEAKER_04: And it's like a 10% on her.
- 22:43SPEAKER_04: I mean, right now we could be wrong, uh, but I don't think we are.
- 22:47SPEAKER_04: I think Oklahoma State's much more talented than you, and they're I think better coached.
- 22:51SPEAKER_04: And so um, you know, they have a more experienced quarterback and all that kind of stuff.
- 22:55SPEAKER_04: So um the good part is we could see good Donovan somehow, some way.
- 23:02SPEAKER_04: Uh he showed it for I don't know, probably a quarter and a half total of last game against Kansas State of what he can be and what he can do.
- 23:11SPEAKER_04: And if that Donovan comes out for three out of the four quarters or three and a half out of the four quarters, you have a good chance, you know.
- 23:18SPEAKER_04: Um it's it's unfortunate that you're probably gonna be missing.
- 23:22SPEAKER_04: I don't know.
- 23:23SPEAKER_04: I don't Joey said it's it's a game time decision on Miles Price.
- 23:26SPEAKER_04: Uh, got his ankle rolled up um against uh Kansas State last week.
- 23:31SPEAKER_04: That would be a huge loss.
- 23:33SPEAKER_04: Um, Roderick, I think, is good to go.
- 23:35SPEAKER_04: I know he was out for a little bit uh last game.
- 23:39SPEAKER_04: Um, but you know, you roll with your team, you still have a good defensive line, you know.
- 23:44SPEAKER_04: Tyree Wilson is still that dude.
- 23:46SPEAKER_04: Uh, I think he got another uh award or whatever player defensive player of the week this this week from one of the awards.
- 23:54SPEAKER_04: And um, you know, you your defense will will keep you in it if they reduce the big plays.
- 24:01SPEAKER_04: Um and if you do all those things, you have a shot.
- 24:07SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and with a little bit of luck, maybe maybe it turns out our way.
- 24:11SPEAKER_03: I just I'm having a hard time digging deep and finding that.
- 24:13SPEAKER_03: You know, we're normally I'm pretty optimistic about these sorts of things, but you know, I'm trying to go into this level headed.
- 24:18SPEAKER_03: You know, we we probably did not go into the K-State game realistic.
- 24:22SPEAKER_03: So I'm trying to tone it back.
- 24:24SPEAKER_03: I think Oklahoma State's a better team than Kansas State.
- 24:27SPEAKER_03: At least you know, Oklahoma State hasn't lost it to Lane, you know.
- 24:31SPEAKER_03: So um, I I really do think that it's an uphill battle.
- 24:34SPEAKER_03: You have to get lucky, and I think you have to catch Oklahoma State on a bad day.
- 24:38SPEAKER_03: You know, I I hopefully uh Spencer Sanders makes plenty of mistakes, and hopefully we're uh we were aggressive.
- 24:44SPEAKER_03: Hopefully we gamble like we do, and hopefully it turns out the way we did against UT.
- 24:48SPEAKER_03: Um, because I really do like that.
- 24:49SPEAKER_03: I hope we don't deviate away from that, especially whenever the odds are stacked up against us like it is.
- 24:53SPEAKER_03: I hope we just take chances because I think it's probably the only way you stay in this game.
- 24:57SPEAKER_04: Yeah, absolutely.
- 24:58SPEAKER_04: Um 2 30 p.m.
- 25:00SPEAKER_04: Fox Sports 1.
- 25:01SPEAKER_03: Hopefully it's too hot up there on uh the Stillwater Plains.
- 25:05SPEAKER_04: I don't think it will be.
- 25:06SPEAKER_04: It's actually looking like a very nice day, which is unfortunate.
- 25:10SPEAKER_04: Uh, I'm not gonna be able to watch this game because I will be on the job.
- 25:15SPEAKER_03: Wow, being man.
- 25:18SPEAKER_04: I know it sucks.
- 25:19SPEAKER_04: I hate it.
- 25:20SPEAKER_04: Um, but you will watch, and hopefully, this will be a game that I will hate myself that I missed after the fact, if you know what I'm saying.
- 25:30SPEAKER_04: So um go go Red Raiders, wreck 'em.
- 25:35SPEAKER_04: Still all in.
- 25:36SPEAKER_04: Hot take, go Red Raiders.
- 25:38SPEAKER_04: Hot take.
- 25:39SPEAKER_04: I hope we win.
- 25:43SPEAKER_04: But but what did but what do we both say before this season?
- 25:47SPEAKER_04: We're gonna start off three and three.
- 25:50SPEAKER_04: Or in your case, you said two and four with the loss to UT.
- 25:53SPEAKER_04: But I said three and three, and we're looking like that right now.
- 25:58SPEAKER_04: And the good news is after the bye, our schedule gets a whole lot easier.
- 26:03SPEAKER_04: Yes, because we're playing the the bum ass sooners late in the season, apparently.
- 26:09SPEAKER_03: Hopefully they remain bum ass.
- 26:10SPEAKER_04: Oh, hopefully.
- 26:11SPEAKER_03: I they've looked really bad so they don't figure it out, you know.
- 26:14SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah, it's kind of weird.
- 26:16SPEAKER_04: It's it's kind of twisted.
- 26:17SPEAKER_04: Like the teams you thought were gonna be really good at the back half of your schedule, like Baylor and Oklahoma, aren't looking amazing, and the teams you thought were gonna be a breeze, like TCU and Kansas, are actually looking like uh pretty good teams here.
- 26:31SPEAKER_04: So I don't know, man.
- 26:33SPEAKER_03: I mean, I'm not I'm not done with Baylor, bro.
- 26:35SPEAKER_04: I'm not done with I'm not done with Baylor either, but you know, you lost at home, and Oklahoma State's a pretty good team.
- 26:42SPEAKER_04: You lost to BYU, who BYU doesn't look amazing this year.
- 26:46SPEAKER_04: Uh granted that game was in Provo.
- 26:48SPEAKER_04: So no, I don't think Baylor's like a breeze by any means, but they definitely look worse than what I thought they were gonna be.
- 26:54SPEAKER_04: That's fair.
- 26:55SPEAKER_04: So I don't know, man.
- 26:57SPEAKER_04: You want to make some picks?
- 26:59SPEAKER_03: Yeah, let's let's do it.
- 27:00SPEAKER_03: Let's let's let's uh I love how whenever we're we're like not happy.
- 27:05SPEAKER_03: The episode is already coming to a close.
- 27:07SPEAKER_04: It's like we like to get me out of the studio short and sweet for the people.
- 27:12SPEAKER_03: Get me out of here.
- 27:13SPEAKER_04: This part is this part's fun though, and it's especially fun because I'm now beating you in our overall picks for the year.
- 27:20SPEAKER_04: Um, you're nine and twelve.
- 27:22SPEAKER_04: You had a really poor week last week.
- 27:24SPEAKER_04: Uh one short with back showing for your guy over here.
- 27:29SPEAKER_04: Uh you are nine and twelve on the year.
- 27:31SPEAKER_04: I am now 11 and 10 on the year after going three and two.
- 27:35SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I got some work to do.
- 27:36SPEAKER_04: You got some work to do.
- 27:37SPEAKER_04: You picked West Virginia to cover against Texas.
- 27:39SPEAKER_03: And uh I I just I just thought that maybe West Virginia was like ready to put it back together, but they they uh they have not.
- 27:48SPEAKER_04: Nope, not even a little bit.
- 27:51SPEAKER_04: Not even a little bit, but we do have some fun rivalry games this week.
- 27:55SPEAKER_04: This is actually a really fun week uh in the Big 12.
- 27:59SPEAKER_04: Let's start with the 11 a.m.
- 28:02SPEAKER_04: game, also on Fox Sports One.
- 28:04SPEAKER_04: So if you're gonna be watching the tech game, hope that this one does not go in overtime.
- 28:08SPEAKER_04: This is going to be College Game Day.
- 28:12SPEAKER_04: College Game Day is going to Lawrence, Kansas for the 5-0 ranked uh Kansas Jayhawks hosting the number 17 uh TCU Hornfrogs.
- 28:27SPEAKER_04: What is happening?
- 28:29SPEAKER_03: This is weird.
- 28:30SPEAKER_03: I mean, it's not that weird to see a ranked TCU, maybe as of late, but the Kansas thing, WTF, you know.
- 28:38SPEAKER_04: No, the way TCU beat Oklahoma was a very wow.
- 28:42SPEAKER_03: That was wow.
- 28:43SPEAKER_04: Oh, like I it I I still can't tell if Oklahoma's just really bad or if TCU's actually pretty pretty solid.
- 28:50SPEAKER_04: It's probably a little bit of both.
- 28:51SPEAKER_04: But um Kansas sitting near they are a minus no TCU favored by seven.
- 29:03SPEAKER_04: By seven?
- 29:04SPEAKER_04: That's what I see.
- 29:06SPEAKER_03: Oh, I'm slamming the Jayhawks.
- 29:08SPEAKER_03: I'm slamming the Jayhawks.
- 29:09SPEAKER_03: I think the home environment, I think TCU is a better team, but I think Kansas covers.
- 29:14SPEAKER_04: I don't understand.
- 29:15SPEAKER_04: Seven?
- 29:17SPEAKER_04: That's wild.
- 29:18SPEAKER_04: I don't know why that line's so high.
- 29:19SPEAKER_04: Yeah, Vegas keeps sleeping on Kansas.
- 29:22SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I I I think the defense is gonna cause uh Kansas problems, but I think they'll score and keep up.
- 29:29SPEAKER_04: Man, I don't know what I want in this game.
- 29:32SPEAKER_04: Mostly because I'm tired.
- 29:34SPEAKER_04: I'm tired of Kansas.
- 29:35SPEAKER_04: I'm tired of the Kansas hype.
- 29:36SPEAKER_04: I'm sick of it.
- 29:37SPEAKER_04: Okay, I get it.
- 29:38SPEAKER_03: They're I can't believe Kansas is has hosting game day and is ranked before us.
- 29:44SPEAKER_03: That kind of hurts.
- 29:45SPEAKER_03: I'm not gonna lie.
- 29:46SPEAKER_04: Can I say something though?
- 29:48SPEAKER_04: Have you who has Kansas played that makes you think that they're awesome?
- 29:53SPEAKER_03: They're the only team that makes you consider their legitimacy is probably Iowa State.
- 29:58SPEAKER_03: Because you know it's a Big 12 opponent.
- 30:00SPEAKER_03: Why?
- 30:00SPEAKER_03: It's a Big 12 opponent.
- 30:02SPEAKER_03: I mean, Iowa State's not looking sharp.
- 30:04SPEAKER_03: I know, they're not looking sharp at all, but it's the only one where you start to think that maybe Kansas is putting it together.
- 30:09SPEAKER_03: And their offense does seem pretty uh pretty uh fiery.
- 30:13SPEAKER_04: I mean, they won 14, they won 14 to 11 against Iowa State at home, and I don't think Iowa State's good.
- 30:22SPEAKER_04: And then you go and you beat a Houston team that's in shambles, you beat Duke, you beat West Virginia, who's gonna be last in the Big 12, and you beat Tennessee Tech.
- 30:34SPEAKER_04: Who is Kantus one?
- 30:37SPEAKER_04: Hey, on the road in Morgantown.
- 30:38SPEAKER_04: That's worth anything.
- 30:39SPEAKER_03: You can't just say lol at bat.
- 30:41SPEAKER_03: I mean, that's still that's still a solid dub.
- 30:45SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I mean go with the frogs, bro.
- 30:49SPEAKER_04: I'm gonna go with the frogs.
- 30:50SPEAKER_03: Go with the frogs.
- 30:51SPEAKER_03: Let's I like I like it when we pick different things anyway.
- 30:53SPEAKER_04: I'm gonna go with TCU.
- 30:55SPEAKER_04: I think TCU's gonna win this and cover.
- 30:58SPEAKER_04: That's a big cover, though.
- 31:00SPEAKER_03: It is, yes, it is.
- 31:01SPEAKER_04: That's a big cover.
- 31:02SPEAKER_04: No, I'll still go TCU.
- 31:03SPEAKER_03: Let's pick it up a little bit.
- 31:04SPEAKER_03: I think he's uh KU's gonna have some game day juice.
- 31:07SPEAKER_03: I'm not saying they're gonna win, but I think they keep it within seven.
- 31:10SPEAKER_04: Okay, I'm I'm just sick of Kansas.
- 31:12SPEAKER_04: I want to see Kansas go back to Kansas.
- 31:14SPEAKER_04: I don't like this new 5-0 Kansas Jayhawks.
- 31:17SPEAKER_04: Get out of here.
- 31:18SPEAKER_03: You can't have it all.
- 31:18SPEAKER_03: You can't you can only have one or the other.
- 31:20SPEAKER_03: This is stupid.
- 31:21SPEAKER_04: And I when I'm looking at their fans that show up for the first time in 12 years or whatever, right?
- 31:27SPEAKER_04: Um, you know, it's like all I see is arrogant Kansas basketball fans.
- 31:31SPEAKER_04: And I'm like, I don't want this, I don't want these people to be even happier in the fall.
- 31:36SPEAKER_03: I don't like absolutely no.
- 31:38SPEAKER_03: I feel that.
- 31:39SPEAKER_03: Yeah, so no, I'm sure any Wildcat fans listening to right now are are like, yes.
- 31:43SPEAKER_04: But I also don't want TCU to win.
- 31:45SPEAKER_04: This is a crap.
- 31:46SPEAKER_03: I hate this.
- 31:47SPEAKER_03: Yeah, no, those 12 fans will really go on and on about it.
- 31:51SPEAKER_04: I hate this.
- 31:52SPEAKER_04: Um, another game where I would like to see both teams lose.
- 31:56SPEAKER_04: Um the uh the red what it red river showdown?
- 32:00SPEAKER_04: Shootout?
- 32:00SPEAKER_03: Yeah, showdown rivalry, yeah.
- 32:02SPEAKER_03: Come on, this is 2022.
- 32:04SPEAKER_04: I'm sorry, red Red River Showdown.
- 32:06SPEAKER_04: Thank you.
- 32:07SPEAKER_04: Um, Texas Oklahoma.
- 32:10SPEAKER_04: Um, of course, it at the Cotton Bowl.
- 32:13SPEAKER_04: Um, Texas, seven point favorites.
- 32:17SPEAKER_04: Seven points, seven point favorites in this one, and I don't think that's unfair.
- 32:22SPEAKER_03: It's not unfair, but I would have thought, you know, given the circumstances and the state of both teams, it would be closer than that.
- 32:29SPEAKER_03: I was hoping it's gonna be like a field goal because I want to say UT in this.
- 32:34SPEAKER_04: We potentially we potentially see uh Ewers in this one, maybe.
- 32:42SPEAKER_04: Um, I think that probably helps out Texas, obviously.
- 32:46SPEAKER_04: Uh, because I think he's a little better than Hudson Card.
- 32:49SPEAKER_04: Um, I don't know.
- 32:50SPEAKER_04: This game's always this game's always hard to pick because even when UT's been terrible, they've made it good games sometimes.
- 32:57SPEAKER_04: So I don't know.
- 32:58SPEAKER_04: I'll go I'll go Oklahoma to cover because seven is is a high seven's a high spread.
- 33:04SPEAKER_03: Well, let's keep this difference thing going.
- 33:06SPEAKER_03: I'll say the horns.
- 33:07SPEAKER_03: I mean, OU's looked freaking awful.
- 33:10SPEAKER_03: And especially if they get Ewers back, maybe the offense works a little better with UT.
- 33:14SPEAKER_03: Um, because running on that OU defense is not a difficult task right now.
- 33:18SPEAKER_03: So if they can get something going and have Bijan run crazy on them, yeah, I could see I could see them covering that spread.
- 33:24SPEAKER_04: That Brent Venable's defense, huh?
- 33:26SPEAKER_04: Looking at the case.
- 33:27SPEAKER_03: Yeah, man, he's clearly better than Lincoln Riley.
- 33:30SPEAKER_04: I love how OU fans are trying to cope with this right now.
- 33:34SPEAKER_03: I know, me too, man.
- 33:35SPEAKER_04: It's funny, it's really funny.
- 33:37SPEAKER_04: You're he left you.
- 33:39SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you lost the breakup.
- 33:41SPEAKER_04: You lost a great you lost a great coach, and you had to replace him with a defensive coordinator that didn't want to be a head coach until you threw the bag at him.
- 33:49SPEAKER_03: So exactly.
- 33:50SPEAKER_04: I don't know.
- 33:51SPEAKER_04: Um, we'll see.
- 33:52SPEAKER_04: I guess we'll see.
- 33:53SPEAKER_03: Defensive coordinator got run out of Norman, too.
- 33:55SPEAKER_03: Like people like just brush over that fact.
- 33:58SPEAKER_03: Yeah, because he was Bob Stoops DC for uh for a time, and he got run out of there.
- 34:02SPEAKER_04: Oh, yeah, that's right.
- 34:06SPEAKER_04: Oh, you fans, oh, you fans are down bad.
- 34:08SPEAKER_04: It's kind of funny.
- 34:09SPEAKER_04: It's a cope.
- 34:10SPEAKER_04: Absolutely.
- 34:11SPEAKER_04: Um, your Texas Tech Red Raiders traveling to Stillwater, Oklahoma State right now, a nine and a half point favorite in Stillwater.
- 34:23SPEAKER_04: Um, I don't want to do it.
- 34:27SPEAKER_03: I know.
- 34:27SPEAKER_03: I I don't I hate doing this because it's just like give it up.
- 34:31SPEAKER_03: It's just like, yeah, we're gonna kill it.
- 34:32SPEAKER_03: Why do we even pick the tech games?
- 34:34SPEAKER_04: We got to, we gotta pick the the big 12 games.
- 34:37SPEAKER_04: Uh I'll go Oklahoma State covers.
- 34:39SPEAKER_03: Fine.
- 34:40SPEAKER_03: I'll I'll I'll just keep this difference thing going.
- 34:42SPEAKER_03: I'll go with the Red Raiders.
- 34:43SPEAKER_03: Uh let's I hope now now I get to say, well, yeah, well, you're cheering protect to to lose badly.
- 34:48SPEAKER_04: Yeah, that's totally what this is about.
- 34:51SPEAKER_04: Uh no, um the uh the the point spread 67 and a half.
- 34:57SPEAKER_04: I'd probably take the under on that.
- 34:59SPEAKER_03: I think so.
- 35:00SPEAKER_04: I don't I don't know.
- 35:01SPEAKER_04: I don't know.
- 35:02SPEAKER_04: This is a tough game to pick.
- 35:04SPEAKER_04: If I was a better man, I wouldn't throw any money at this.
- 35:07SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 35:08SPEAKER_04: So uh yeah, I'll take I'll take Oklahoma State, you'll take tech.
- 35:11SPEAKER_04: Uh last big 12 game because the uh what West Virginia and Baylor are on bye week.
- 35:19SPEAKER_04: So uh Kansas State ISU Farmageddon.
- 35:23SPEAKER_04: This is one of the funnest games of the year, mostly for the Twitter interactions between the two fan bases, they're fantastic.
- 35:30SPEAKER_04: Um, these are two.
- 35:32SPEAKER_04: I I hate picking a side in Farmageddon.
- 35:35SPEAKER_04: Oh, yeah, I know, right?
- 35:36SPEAKER_04: I like it.
- 35:37SPEAKER_04: I just kind of like to see it play out, play the way it is, and just hope for a fun game.
- 35:41SPEAKER_04: Um, I believe this game is in Ames.
- 35:45SPEAKER_04: And yes, it is.
- 35:46SPEAKER_04: Iowa State.
- 35:48SPEAKER_04: No, Kansas State, two-point favorite in Ames.
- 35:51SPEAKER_03: That's it.
- 35:51SPEAKER_03: Oh, Wildcats.
- 35:53SPEAKER_03: Wildcats.
- 35:55SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I'll agree.
- 35:56SPEAKER_03: I'll agree.
- 35:57SPEAKER_03: Yeah, come on.
- 35:58SPEAKER_03: The Wildcats look legit now, and ISU looks like uh they have some real issues.
- 36:03SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it's mostly because Iowa State looks bad.
- 36:06SPEAKER_03: And Kansas State's going on in Ames, dude.
- 36:09SPEAKER_03: Like bad, they've kind of been on a decline these past couple of years.
- 36:14SPEAKER_04: It's like they lost their entire team from last year or something.
- 36:17SPEAKER_04: I don't know.
- 36:17SPEAKER_03: Well, they weren't very good last year, yeah.
- 36:20SPEAKER_04: And last year was supposed to be the year.
- 36:22SPEAKER_04: That was more last year was disappointing because they underperformed for the talent that they had.
- 36:27SPEAKER_04: This year it's just kind of like they don't really have that many dudes.
- 36:31SPEAKER_03: And under didn't they go six and six in season?
- 36:34SPEAKER_04: They went, they finished what seven, seven and six.
- 36:37SPEAKER_04: Is that what they finished?
- 36:38SPEAKER_04: Seven and six.
- 36:39SPEAKER_03: It sounds right in my head, but because I mean they definitely weren't supposed to lose to us.
- 36:44SPEAKER_04: So that team, that team was disappointing last year.
- 36:48SPEAKER_04: Um, I just don't think this team's very good.
- 36:51SPEAKER_03: No, I don't think so either.
- 36:52SPEAKER_04: I don't I don't I don't think, and I don't think Matt Campbell's gonna like put you over the top or something like that.
- 36:56SPEAKER_03: So um Chris Kleiman's a good coach, too.
- 36:59SPEAKER_03: Dude has national championships under his.
- 37:01SPEAKER_04: I like I like Chris Kleiman.
- 37:02SPEAKER_04: I do, yeah, even when he kicks our butt.
- 37:04SPEAKER_04: Well, I don't really like him that much when he does that, but uh no, he's a good coach.
- 37:07SPEAKER_04: Yeah, great hire.
- 37:10SPEAKER_04: Cool, awesome.
- 37:11SPEAKER_04: All these other Big 12 teams making great coaching hires, which I think we made a good one finally.
- 37:16SPEAKER_03: We'll say Opley finally did that, but that would take a lot of brain power from K-State.
- 37:20SPEAKER_03: Oh, this guy's won multiple national championships.
- 37:23SPEAKER_03: Okay, hire him.
- 37:25SPEAKER_03: Fine, he's in the Midwest, he knows how to recruit to isolated areas, do it.
- 37:29SPEAKER_04: Yeah, no, and he's already doing good things for K-State.
- 37:32SPEAKER_04: I want to stop talking about them.
- 37:33SPEAKER_04: Yeah, anyway.
- 37:34SPEAKER_04: Um, yeah, no, I'll do I'll do K-State.
- 37:36SPEAKER_04: You went with K-State as well.
- 37:38SPEAKER_04: Um, we'll see.
- 37:39SPEAKER_04: It is a fun week in the Big 12.
- 37:40SPEAKER_04: These are a lot of good games.
- 37:41SPEAKER_04: Uh, I hope we pull off the upset so I can enjoy farm again.
- 37:45SPEAKER_04: Indeed, indeed.
- 37:47SPEAKER_04: Absolutely, but yep, we're gonna keep it short and sweet, get to song of the week, and then we'll get you the heck out of here.
- 37:53SPEAKER_04: What's your song of the week?
- 37:54SPEAKER_03: Dude, I'm surprised I haven't picked the song yet.
- 37:57SPEAKER_03: And so I'm gonna be fishing for a win in Stillwater.
- 38:02SPEAKER_03: We're gonna be fishing for it.
- 38:03SPEAKER_03: Going with fishing in the dark, man.
- 38:05SPEAKER_03: Nitty gritty dirt band.
- 38:07SPEAKER_03: Okay, it's just an absolute earworm.
- 38:09SPEAKER_03: You know, you can't help but sing along to the song.
- 38:12SPEAKER_03: A great country jam.
- 38:14SPEAKER_03: You and me from fishing in the dark, live on our backs and count the stars where the program.
- 38:25SPEAKER_04: Very nice, very nice.
- 38:27SPEAKER_04: That is a classic.
- 38:28SPEAKER_04: Uh, love it.
- 38:30SPEAKER_04: Love that good choice, good choice.
- 38:32SPEAKER_04: Uh, my my song of the week uh happens, and I'm gonna do this because tech Twitter, as we know, after a loss, it's not we like to argue with each other on a lot of different things.
- 38:46SPEAKER_04: We like to overreact, we like to be mad, uh, we like to start blaming everybody, uh, particularly the quarterback.
- 38:54SPEAKER_04: Um I am choosing kind of a kumbaya uh song right here.
- 39:00SPEAKER_04: So let's go with uh Better Together, Jack Johnson, because uh, you know, I'd like this team to stay together.
- 39:07SPEAKER_04: I'd like us to not roll over after a couple really tough road losses.
- 39:13SPEAKER_04: Uh, and I'd like, and you know, I know Donovan's getting a lot of flack right now, but I'd like us to respond in a positive way and uh, you know, go out and and go and play, man.
- 39:23SPEAKER_04: Like, just you know, what do you have to lose?
- 39:25SPEAKER_04: You're gonna lose to a top 10 team on the road?
- 39:27SPEAKER_04: Ooh, big deal.
- 39:29SPEAKER_04: Like, I'd rather we just have kind of an eff it attitude and uh play together and stay together as a team and um you know play good.
- 39:36SPEAKER_04: So that was Better Together, Jack Johnson.
- 39:39SPEAKER_04: Well, it's always better when we're together.
- 39:44SPEAKER_03: Yes, always better when we're together.
- 39:49SPEAKER_03: Is that Mr.
- 39:50SPEAKER_03: Banana Pancakes, man?
- 39:51SPEAKER_04: It is banana pancakes.
- 39:53SPEAKER_03: It's a good song.
- 39:54SPEAKER_03: No, it is.
- 39:54SPEAKER_03: No, it is, it is.
- 39:55SPEAKER_03: Um, dude, I like I like that I like that's the end of the episode.
- 39:58SPEAKER_03: I really do hope that our fans stay behind this team.
- 40:02SPEAKER_03: Like, we're already having a much better season than we've had in the past decade.
- 40:06SPEAKER_03: Like, we're starting out pretty well.
- 40:08SPEAKER_03: We've we've seen some some shit to part of my language this past 10 years.
- 40:12SPEAKER_03: Like, we've had some awful seasons, guys.
- 40:15SPEAKER_03: So it's not even close to that realm yet, even if we lose this weekend.
- 40:18SPEAKER_03: So uh stay behind this team, keep back in the Jones.
- 40:20SPEAKER_03: I'll be there against uh maybe a ranked Kansas in a in a few weeks.
- 40:24SPEAKER_03: So no way, keep your heads up.
- 40:28SPEAKER_04: Yeah, absolutely.
- 40:29SPEAKER_04: Keep it.
- 40:30SPEAKER_04: I know this podcast was a little bit of a downer, but you know, of course, it's gonna be sometimes it just be what it is.
- 40:37SPEAKER_04: So uh, you know, always you know, keep your guns up and uh you know, keep rooting on this team because the second half of the season is uh open, in my opinion.
- 40:47SPEAKER_04: I think you can win a lot of games and finish off pretty good in the first year of Joey.
- 40:50SPEAKER_04: So um you still are only three wins away from a bowl game.
- 40:53SPEAKER_04: So you already beat UT, you beat Houston in a really fun game, and uh I don't know, maybe pull off a couple upsets here.
- 41:01SPEAKER_04: But yeah, we're gonna end it right there.
