A 55-year-old Elgin woman, Sonya Martinez Guerra, died after being found unresponsive at her home, with trauma suspected as the cause. Authorities have identified a 33-year-old man, Christopher Vargas, as a person of interest. Though he’s currently jailed in Hays County on unrelated charges, Bastrop County has added serious new accusations against him — including burglary with intent to commit another felony — with a $1 million bond.
