- 0:00Speaker 1: The following program is produced by the Tech Talk Radio Network. Hey,
- 0:03Speaker 1: this comedian Kathleen Meddigan, and you're listening to tech Talk
- 0:06Speaker 1: Radio is something I will never be listening to because
- 0:09Speaker 1: I hate technology. But for those of you, the two
- 0:12Speaker 1: these are your guys, and this is tech Talk Radio.
- 0:16Speaker 1: I'm Andy Taylor. I'm shying to weird and we are
- 0:19Speaker 1: the show that is here to talk to you about computers,
- 0:21Speaker 1: technology and the Internet and games. Games gotta be the games.
- 0:27Speaker 2: Board games, video games, games, games, games.
- 0:29Speaker 1: Yeah, are you getting ready now? Game Con? Is that big? Yes?
- 0:36Speaker 1: What are you making big plans? Are you?
- 0:38Speaker 2: Yeah? It's yeah, it's it's July thirty first to August fourth, right,
- 0:45Speaker 2: I think, yeah, something like that. It's Thursday to Sunday. Yeah,
- 0:49Speaker 2: we're playing on going now for our listeners. Don't know
- 0:51Speaker 2: if Sean is in Indiana? Is it in Indiana or
- 0:53Speaker 2: do you have it?
- 0:53Speaker 1: Is?
- 0:54Speaker 2: It is in Indianapolis, So it's about two and a
- 0:56Speaker 2: half hours directly south of where I live. It's the
- 1:00Speaker 2: largest United States board game, board game, video board game,
- 1:06Speaker 2: card game, tabletop RPG convention in the US.
- 1:09Speaker 1: No, you say board game, You're not talking monopoly. Your
- 1:11Speaker 1: life Nobody well exactly, but oh.
- 1:16Speaker 2: It's not just generic board games. It's it's your typical
- 1:20Speaker 2: it's Catan, it's you know the nerd stuff.
- 1:22Speaker 1: Are you gonna do you know, segment from there like
- 1:25Speaker 1: we did last year? Sure, that would be cool. That
- 1:27Speaker 1: would be Now you have to try and come out
- 1:30Speaker 1: for our Tucson Comic Con, which they've been announcing, and
- 1:34Speaker 1: you know, it's been good. They get like pretty good
- 1:36Speaker 1: names come out. But this year William Shatner aloof for
- 1:42Speaker 1: Reigno so far announced un I mean the Hulk. I
- 1:45Speaker 1: mean that's it's pretty good, you know, for coming to
- 1:48Speaker 1: Tucson for you know, big comic con.
- 1:50Speaker 2: Oh they're all they're all old and does isn't that
- 1:52Speaker 2: where all the old people retires to Son?
- 1:54Speaker 1: Oh hey hey watch it. Know it should be good though.
- 1:59Speaker 1: I'm you know the guy that puts it on. Have
- 2:01Speaker 1: known him for years, you know, in decades actually, and
- 2:05Speaker 1: they just they get a bigger turnout every year. So
- 2:08Speaker 1: I think having Shatner there would be something that just
- 2:11Speaker 1: appeals even not the science fiction fan, I.
- 2:14Speaker 2: Think, I mean just the general general science. I mean
- 2:17Speaker 2: it's Shdner of course to go.
- 2:20Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, the guy's been to space. He actually didn't.
- 2:23Speaker 2: He go up, Yeah, went up with what's her face,
- 2:26Speaker 2: Katy Perry or whatever.
- 2:27Speaker 1: Katy Perry. That's a video right there. Well, we're happy
- 2:33Speaker 1: to be back. You know, we were almost going to
- 2:35Speaker 1: do because this week has been one of those weeks again.
- 2:38Speaker 1: We were going to do the show where we were
- 2:40Speaker 1: focusing a couple of years ago we talked about BUCkies
- 2:44Speaker 1: and you had gone to BUCkies my mom.
- 2:47Speaker 2: My mom is legit probably has a psychological disorder about
- 2:52Speaker 2: how much she loves BUCkies.
- 2:54Speaker 1: Really, she goes. There are a lot well, so she travels.
- 2:57Speaker 2: She travels a lot to the central part of the
- 2:58Speaker 2: country for the gymnastics stuff that she does. She runs
- 3:01Speaker 2: a lot of the gymnastics camps for USA Gymnastics. This
- 3:05Speaker 2: travels into the middle of the country a lot, so Texas, Tennessee,
- 3:08Speaker 2: Kentucky like those areas. I think my kids have more
- 3:13Speaker 2: BUCkies shirts than not one for every major holiday. I
- 3:19Speaker 2: have an entire I have a full BUCkies suit. You've
- 3:22Speaker 2: seen me wear I've worn on the show. Yes you should,
- 3:25Speaker 2: I should wear it again. That there. Yeah, you know
- 3:28Speaker 2: a BUCkies button down shirt, I mean you name it,
- 3:32Speaker 2: I've got it. BUCkies. Every time my mom travels, the
- 3:35Speaker 2: boys get BUCkies T shirts.
- 3:37Speaker 1: Well, they opened the very first BUCkies in Arizona. We
- 3:41Speaker 1: had talked about it back in twenty twenty four when
- 3:44Speaker 1: we heard it was coming here, and they finally opened
- 3:47Speaker 1: it last Monday. Traffic was absurd getting through Goodyear, Arizona,
- 3:53Speaker 1: which is just on the other side of Phoenix. Between
- 3:55Speaker 1: Phoenix and I'd say, you know, California is the next
- 3:58Speaker 1: big spot. But they expected fifty to seventy thousand people
- 4:05Speaker 1: attending that grand opening. People were booking hotels because they
- 4:10Speaker 1: wanted to say they went to the BUCkies uh in Arizona.
- 4:14Speaker 1: And apparently now they did an interview with one of
- 4:17Speaker 1: the grand pubas there from BUCkies. And that's not the
- 4:21Speaker 1: last spot that they will probably be. They're looking at
- 4:24Speaker 1: other places throughout the state and continuing to so.
- 4:27Speaker 2: There also has been rumored that they're looking at one
- 4:29Speaker 2: in Elkhart, which is just east of here. Oh, because
- 4:32Speaker 2: there's not one in Indiana either. Oh.
- 4:35Speaker 1: I didn't know that.
- 4:35Speaker 2: Oh wow, So at least I don't think at least
- 4:39Speaker 2: maybe maybe this other part of the state.
- 4:40Speaker 1: I'd have to look, Yeah.
- 4:41Speaker 2: But el Khart would be crazy because it'd probably be
- 4:46Speaker 2: like their biggest one that could take RVs and stuff,
- 4:48Speaker 2: because we're the RV capital of the world right, Like
- 4:51Speaker 2: people don't realize that from a fifteen to twenty mile
- 4:54Speaker 2: radius from my house is where ninety five percent of
- 4:57Speaker 2: the world's RVs are made. Campus trailers, boats, you name it.
- 5:02Speaker 2: This is this is where their main you name it,
- 5:05Speaker 2: Lippert is here. All the big manufacturer's Forest River thor Coachman,
- 5:10Speaker 2: They're they're all here, Jacob, they all are within twenty
- 5:14Speaker 2: miles of my house.
- 5:15Speaker 1: Oh wow, So that would go over very well.
- 5:19Speaker 2: Yeah, you can come and it could it'd be like
- 5:21Speaker 2: really probably really close to the motorhome and motorhome and
- 5:23Speaker 2: RV Hall of Fame.
- 5:25Speaker 1: I went to. So I went to California last week
- 5:29Speaker 1: and was driving back. This is a few days before
- 5:33Speaker 1: they did the reopening lot and I'm Gloria had never
- 5:36Speaker 1: heard of Bucki's before, and she was like, I don't
- 5:39Speaker 1: get it. What is it?
- 5:40Speaker 2: It's an experience, what it is.
- 5:41Speaker 1: Yeah, when we were driving to California, you couldn't see it. It
- 5:44Speaker 1: was on the other side of the freeway. But driving
- 5:46Speaker 1: back you could and you could see. I'm massive and
- 5:49Speaker 1: I said, you know, you know about you know, the
- 5:53Speaker 1: Pilot truck stop or the Triple T truck stop. You know,
- 5:57Speaker 1: you know about some of the quick trips. Love, look
- 5:59Speaker 1: at the size of this thing. Yeah, it's the size
- 6:02Speaker 1: of a Walmart.
- 6:03Speaker 2: Yeah, there are some of the buckets. Some are some
- 6:06Speaker 2: BUCkies are bigger than rural walmarts. Yeah, like in terms
- 6:11Speaker 2: of volume, groceries whatever.
- 6:15Speaker 1: And you can do so much shopping. So if anybody
- 6:18Speaker 1: is going out, you know, you're listening to this and
- 6:20Speaker 1: you're thinking, I'm gonna go to good Year, I want
- 6:22Speaker 1: to go check out this BUCkies. It's about about almost
- 6:25Speaker 1: two I want to say, maybe a two hour drive
- 6:28Speaker 1: to get out there, but you know, plan to have
- 6:31Speaker 1: your lunch there, your dinner, and do a lot of shopping.
- 6:35Speaker 2: But you can do beaver nuggets. Nuggets, Oh that's what
- 6:39Speaker 2: they but yeah, it's they're also you know, planning to
- 6:46Speaker 2: famous the cleanest bathrooms on.
- 6:47Speaker 1: The road and that kind of really so.
- 6:49Speaker 2: Yeah, and they have more gas pumps than any other
- 6:52Speaker 2: gas station in the world.
- 6:53Speaker 1: Yeah, what about brisket. Brisket's supposed to be big too, right,
- 6:58Speaker 1: I sure I don't need briskets, so I don't know,
- 7:01Speaker 1: but yeah.
- 7:02Speaker 2: All right, well it's certainly. You know, if you're thinking
- 7:04Speaker 2: of a summer trip, BUCkies, you're gonna go to Cali,
- 7:07Speaker 2: you want to definitely make your stop. All right, next week,
- 7:09Speaker 2: I'm definitely gonna wear the BUCkies onesie.
- 7:12Speaker 1: You gotta do that, the onesie. No, don't worry, don't
- 7:14Speaker 1: you have just a shirt.
- 7:16Speaker 2: No, I'm gonna wear the one with the hood and everything.
- 7:18Speaker 1: Again, I think it's great because they were interviewing No,
- 7:22Speaker 1: it wasn't even that it was a it was an
- 7:24Speaker 1: ID channel thing. It was like, you know, homicide, the
- 7:28Speaker 1: thing on the ID channel, and they were interviewing people
- 7:31Speaker 1: on the streets, you know that had heard the sounds.
- 7:34Speaker 1: And somebody walked up and they blurred the shirt. But
- 7:37Speaker 1: I'm like, I'm sorry, you cannot blur a Bucky's shirt.
- 7:40Speaker 1: Everybody knows what the BUCkies character looks like. It was like,
- 7:44Speaker 1: that's pretty weak. Oh boy, it's an experience.
- 7:49Speaker 2: Man, I'm telling you. But my mom again, my mom
- 7:52Speaker 2: is obsessed.
- 7:53Speaker 1: Yeah, she likes it. And the grandkids have all the
- 7:55Speaker 1: BUCkies stuff, right.
- 7:56Speaker 2: They I swear, I swear they probably have a dozen
- 8:00Speaker 2: Bucky shirts. Really wow, every time she goes, and she
- 8:05Speaker 2: goes five or six times, or she goes travels a lot.
- 8:11Speaker 2: They have a ton of buncky shirts. They probably have
- 8:13Speaker 2: a dozen different bunky shirts.
- 8:15Speaker 1: Do they have like a tech section. I'm just wondering,
- 8:18Speaker 1: you know, like I don't know that might be.
- 8:21Speaker 2: I've not been to one.
- 8:22Speaker 1: Oh well I thought you had, so Justin's the only
- 8:24Speaker 1: one who's actually been to one. Yeah, you guys didn't stop. No, no,
- 8:28Speaker 1: well it wasn't open yet. We drove through and it
- 8:31Speaker 1: wasn't opening for like three days. The freeways were already
- 8:34Speaker 1: starting to get messed up. They already started to say,
- 8:36Speaker 1: you know, signs all over the road saying this is
- 8:39Speaker 1: where you know, grand opening on Monday. You know, you
- 8:41Speaker 1: wanted to stay off the freeway. So it was and
- 8:44Speaker 1: it apparently was like that, you know that people doing
- 8:47Speaker 1: drones in the air. Local the Tucson TV stations were
- 8:51Speaker 1: there doing coverage. So yeah, it's it's now officially open. Though,
- 8:55Speaker 1: that's crazy Bucky's fever going on. I can't believe you
- 8:58Speaker 1: have a Bucky's onesie and you haven't been yet. That's awesome, boy,
- 9:05Speaker 1: I'll tell you what, though, it's kind of funny because
- 9:07Speaker 1: you're wondering if they have a tech section. I we
- 9:11Speaker 1: stop at the pilot in court site, and that's like
- 9:14Speaker 1: that's the first the last stop, I should say, leaving Arizona.
- 9:19Speaker 1: So I was get the gas in Arizona because it's cheaper.
- 9:23Speaker 1: Even just going across the border to blythe which is
- 9:26Speaker 1: the next city over, it's a little more expensive. But
- 9:29Speaker 1: I Gloria's laughing because here we are sitting at this
- 9:32Speaker 1: truck stop.
- 9:32Speaker 2: What do I do?
- 9:33Speaker 1: I go right for the tech section. Let's see what
- 9:35Speaker 1: they got.
- 9:38Speaker 2: That's I mean, it's it's wild to think about. I
- 9:41Speaker 2: went to the mall here not that long ago. So
- 9:44Speaker 2: I guess I had to get my something at the
- 9:46Speaker 2: Apple store, right, and I had to go through the mall. Yeah,
- 9:50Speaker 2: And I was like, oh, I'll get lunch there or whatever,
- 9:52Speaker 2: so I ate of the food court. It was weird, man,
- 9:55Speaker 2: But like growing up, you went to the mall, you
- 9:59Speaker 2: went to you know, you everybody shopped to the mall,
- 10:01Speaker 2: so you either went for clothes, right toys or tech. Yeah,
- 10:07Speaker 2: so you went to you went to either get movies
- 10:09Speaker 2: and games, toys, right clothes, or you went and saw
- 10:14Speaker 2: the movies at the movie. So it's just wild to
- 10:18Speaker 2: think that that mall culture has just gone.
- 10:20Speaker 1: It's just it's gone now shopping shopping in general. I mean,
- 10:24Speaker 1: you look at this week. It's been you know, the
- 10:26Speaker 1: Amazon Prime week, you know, as a way to get
- 10:30Speaker 1: and the benefit for many shoppers though is yeah, okay.
- 10:33Speaker 1: You may think, well, Amazon's doing these deals. Some of
- 10:36Speaker 1: them are great, others are like, yeah, that's okay. But
- 10:39Speaker 1: it's also forced other retailers like best Buy, like Target,
- 10:43Speaker 1: you know, to actually come down on some of their
- 10:45Speaker 1: prices and also do specials. So you know, while their
- 10:50Speaker 1: Amazon is not a storefront, best Buy and Target are storefronts,
- 10:54Speaker 1: they still want to get you in the door. So
- 10:56Speaker 1: they know that everybody's budget shopping right now looking for
- 10:59Speaker 1: that deal, and you know that's it's been good for
- 11:03Speaker 1: some of those. I had a friend that asked me,
- 11:05Speaker 1: She said, well, I want to buy a laptop. Should
- 11:08Speaker 1: I buy it on Amazon? And I said no, you know,
- 11:12Speaker 1: go into go into your local computer store, whether it
- 11:16Speaker 1: be Mom and pop or whether it be Big Box,
- 11:19Speaker 1: and see what kind of deal you can get. Actually
- 11:22Speaker 1: hold the laptop, touch the laptop before you buy it,
- 11:24Speaker 1: so you know what to expect. So, and we had
- 11:28Speaker 1: a question a couple of weeks ago about that same thing,
- 11:30Speaker 1: wanting to know about laptops versus tablets. Always, if you're
- 11:33Speaker 1: going to buy technology, be real. Okay, if you know
- 11:37Speaker 1: what it is. That's different if you're gonna buy it
- 11:38Speaker 1: from Amazon. And I'm not saying don't buy anything from Amazon,
- 11:41Speaker 1: but I mean, you know, if it's something you're not
- 11:45Speaker 1: sure of, feel it, get it in your hands, you know,
- 11:48Speaker 1: go go and look at it. And if you look
- 11:50Speaker 1: at Amazon, you see it's cheaper and it's the same product. Okay, cool,
- 11:54Speaker 1: but at least you can you could touch that and
- 11:57Speaker 1: get a feel for that, because you might get something
- 11:59Speaker 1: that's like, oh, this is not what I expected. And
- 12:02Speaker 1: I don't know if that's ever happened to you with
- 12:03Speaker 1: ordering stuff off Amazon, or you get it in you go, oh,
- 12:07Speaker 1: this isn't really what I thought it was gonna be.
- 12:09Speaker 2: Uh. You know, I bought a little audio mixer from them.
- 12:14Speaker 2: I mean, I have an analog audio mixture that I'm
- 12:16Speaker 2: running this micro stuff through, but I bought this digital
- 12:18Speaker 2: one that was like some Chinese.
- 12:21Speaker 1: Was it a fine yes?
- 12:23Speaker 2: Yes, yeah, it was garbage.
- 12:26Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 12:27Speaker 2: The pre episode of Terrible had no gig control. It
- 12:29Speaker 2: didn't function. It was awful. I sent it back.
- 12:34Speaker 1: Yeah, I've got a couple of fine mics that I
- 12:37Speaker 1: actually bought at the Amazon, the store that they do,
- 12:41Speaker 1: the super sale bin store. We have one here in
- 12:44Speaker 1: Green Valley. Got one to two son and I, I
- 12:47Speaker 1: mean for ten bucks. I think I got it for
- 12:49Speaker 1: ten bucks. It was a great deal. But I bought
- 12:52Speaker 1: that mixer and I did the same thing, ordered it
- 12:54Speaker 1: from Amazon. I got it in I was like, the
- 12:57Speaker 1: sound output wasn't that great. They do have good return policy,
- 13:01Speaker 1: so I'll give them that. So that ended up helping
- 13:03Speaker 1: and I was able to send it back. But you know,
- 13:06Speaker 1: just something to think about when you're when you're shopping
- 13:08Speaker 1: and you're look at these great deals. Speaking of that, Okay,
- 13:11Speaker 1: so you just had a birthday finally, I.
- 13:14Speaker 2: Don't I don't know. Yeah, I don't feel forty except
- 13:18Speaker 2: now that now every day I wake up something new hurts.
- 13:22Speaker 1: Welcome to my world.
- 13:24Speaker 2: Yeah. So yeah, I turned. I turned the big four.
- 13:27Speaker 2: Oh so we we took a trip up to the
- 13:32Speaker 2: northern part of Michigan and spent a day on Mcinaw Island,
- 13:37Speaker 2: which is a small island that's in the Straits of
- 13:40Speaker 2: Mcinac near mcadaw City. It's a historical landmark for the
- 13:48Speaker 2: state of Michigan is that there's a fort there that
- 13:51Speaker 2: was part of the you know, goes way back to
- 13:54Speaker 2: the found founding of the US and all stuff. And
- 13:58Speaker 2: oh wow, it's kind of a time because they don't
- 14:00Speaker 2: a lot cars on the island still, so it's all
- 14:02Speaker 2: horse and buggy and bikes and stuff. So there's no
- 14:06Speaker 2: cars and stuff. It's like, I mean, it's not a
- 14:08Speaker 2: very big island. It's only like eleven miles around or
- 14:12Speaker 2: something like that. If you if you drove around the edge,
- 14:14Speaker 2: rode your bike on the edge.
- 14:16Speaker 1: Do people actually live on this island.
- 14:18Speaker 2: Yeah, there are. There are some permanent residents, but mostly
- 14:22Speaker 2: it's hotels and airbnbs or not airbabies, but hotels and
- 14:26Speaker 2: ben breakfasts and touristy stuff. But it's it's a tourist thing.
- 14:32Speaker 2: There's a there's a hotel on it called the Grand Hotel,
- 14:34Speaker 2: which has one of the largest hotel decks in the world.
- 14:39Speaker 1: Really.
- 14:39Speaker 2: Yeah, so if you want to look up the Grand Hotel,
- 14:41Speaker 2: it's you'll see pictures of it. It's pretty cool, but
- 14:45Speaker 2: it's every year around Father's Day, they have a festival
- 14:52Speaker 2: on the island, the Lilac Festival. Right, all the lilacs
- 14:55Speaker 2: are blue main and they do a big festival and
- 14:57Speaker 2: the group that my dad and my brothers and I
- 14:59Speaker 2: play in always performs on the island for the Lilac Festival.
- 15:05Speaker 2: So growing up, my dad's been My dad's been in
- 15:08Speaker 2: this group since the early nineties. So I've done all
- 15:12Speaker 2: of my milestone birthdays on or around macn Island. Sixteen
- 15:16Speaker 2: eighteen twenty one, so you know, I said, why why not,
- 15:20Speaker 2: let's do forty. So we packed up the camper, we
- 15:23Speaker 2: drove up. We stayed up there for a couple of
- 15:24Speaker 2: days and did a day on the island with the
- 15:26Speaker 2: boys and stuff. And there's this cool little place in
- 15:32Speaker 2: Saint Ignace, Michigan, which is across the bridge in the
- 15:35Speaker 2: Upper Peninsula, called the Mystery Spot.
- 15:38Speaker 1: Right.
- 15:38Speaker 2: It's it's it's it's a tourist trap. It's just what
- 15:44Speaker 2: it is.
- 15:44Speaker 1: It's nice.
- 15:46Speaker 2: But but they but they claim they claim that there's
- 15:49Speaker 2: this mysterious, uh geomagnetic ish thing that happens there and
- 15:55Speaker 2: they built this like it's like a little not a
- 15:58Speaker 2: f I don't want to say a fun house, but
- 15:59Speaker 2: it's like a cabin in the woods that they do
- 16:02Speaker 2: all these optical illusions and stuff for. So it's like, right,
- 16:06Speaker 2: you know, hey, stand on this block, and you stand
- 16:08Speaker 2: on this block their level, but you look taller on
- 16:10Speaker 2: this block than that block. And and then like the
- 16:13Speaker 2: building slanted so like gravity. It's it's really cool. It's
- 16:17Speaker 2: I loved it as a kid because it was fascinating
- 16:19Speaker 2: as a kid. So Max is old enough to understand
- 16:22Speaker 2: that this is kind of a cool thing. So he
- 16:23Speaker 2: got to do it for the first time, and you
- 16:25Speaker 2: got to see it and stuff. So it was like
- 16:27Speaker 2: living vicariously through my kids doing the the the mystery spot.
- 16:32Speaker 2: So that was pretty cool.
- 16:34Speaker 1: That sounds like fun.
- 16:36Speaker 2: Did you did you get your switch to and for
- 16:38Speaker 2: your birthday or not yet?
- 16:40Speaker 1: No?
- 16:41Speaker 2: All right, so I believe we mentioned it last show. Yeah,
- 16:46Speaker 2: but they had the Nintendo Direct on June ninth, I think,
- 16:50Speaker 2: and they announced the Operative Time remake.
- 16:54Speaker 1: That's one of the games you like playing more than
- 16:56Speaker 1: anything else, right, I mean.
- 16:57Speaker 2: It's a game I grew up playing on the ntend
- 17:00Speaker 2: sixty four. It's a game I've replayed recently when I
- 17:03Speaker 2: got my Analog three D. There's it's probably it's considered
- 17:08Speaker 2: to be one of the best video games ever made.
- 17:11Speaker 2: It's an action AIRPG from Nintendo in the Zelda series,
- 17:17Speaker 2: and it's incredible. So, you know, I didn't buy a
- 17:22Speaker 2: switch To because there were some things that I didn't
- 17:24Speaker 2: agree with that Nintendo was doing in terms of user
- 17:26Speaker 2: rights and digital platforming and DRM and stuff like that.
- 17:32Speaker 2: But there's nothing in this universe that will stop me
- 17:34Speaker 2: from buying the Accurative Time remake.
- 17:37Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 17:39Speaker 2: So I have a dilemma because they've announced that the
- 17:42Speaker 2: prices of the switch Too are going to go up
- 17:44Speaker 2: based on the RAM prices and this, you know, the
- 17:46Speaker 2: hardware st of But I know, I know if I
- 17:49Speaker 2: buy one right now, if I went online at bought
- 17:52Speaker 2: one right now, that in because they said it's gonna
- 17:55Speaker 2: release before the end of the year, so twenty twenty six, right,
- 17:58Speaker 2: so it's probably gonna release around Thanksgiving or Christmas time.
- 18:03Speaker 2: I know if I buy one right now, they will
- 18:06Speaker 2: have a special edition switch To with the Operative Time remake.
- 18:10Speaker 2: It's gonna be something fancy and it's in it. I'm
- 18:13Speaker 2: gonna want it. Yeah, So I'm hesitant to buy now.
- 18:18Speaker 2: But I might pay more later to get the special edition,
- 18:22Speaker 2: but I want it. Yeah, yeah, so I'm gonna wait,
- 18:25Speaker 2: but I will be buying a Switch too because I
- 18:27Speaker 2: want the Operative Time remake. Plus you know the Star
- 18:31Speaker 2: Fox remake that they just made. It looks incredible. Plus
- 18:34Speaker 2: I want to play Mario Kart World, and there's a
- 18:36Speaker 2: couple other things I want to play also, But.
- 18:38Speaker 1: It's really good things about Mario Kart World too.
- 18:40Speaker 2: It's it's incredible, Like there's you know, Nintendo is is
- 18:46Speaker 2: really in its own class of video game consoles, right
- 18:51Speaker 2: they don't compete with Xbox to PlayStation. They just don't.
- 18:56Speaker 2: You have the people that get Nintendo because they want Nintendo,
- 19:00Speaker 2: and then you know the people that play Xbox or PlayStation,
- 19:04Speaker 2: they may also play Nintendo. But there's some people that
- 19:07Speaker 2: just do Nintendo games. Right. So, but I think the
- 19:13Speaker 2: switch was a revolutionary change in video gaming handheld gaming,
- 19:18Speaker 2: handheld device game, portable gaming, and then the switch to
- 19:22Speaker 2: just made it better. I don't know, I'm excited for
- 19:26Speaker 2: it again. It's a game that I've spent a lot
- 19:29Speaker 2: of my childhood playing. My brother's played it, my friends
- 19:32Speaker 2: have played it.
- 19:33Speaker 1: It's got a lot of hype around it, Sean, What
- 19:36Speaker 1: would you say, though, is out of all the consoles
- 19:39Speaker 1: that are out there, because at my house that I
- 19:42Speaker 1: had to go to after my son had moved to
- 19:46Speaker 1: another state, he left behind a bunch of stuff he
- 19:49Speaker 1: just didn't want to take it. Yeah, go ahead. Whatever.
- 19:52Speaker 1: One of those was a PS two. I have never
- 19:55Speaker 1: had a PlayStation and they're up what what are up to?
- 20:00Speaker 2: Now?
- 20:01Speaker 1: PS five? But it's a PS two and there's even
- 20:05Speaker 1: a game in it. I thought, well, that's kind of cool.
- 20:08Speaker 1: So I was thinking, you know, okay, I could maybe
- 20:11Speaker 1: have some fun with this. But I go out and
- 20:13Speaker 1: buy some PS two games, probably over at Bookman's or
- 20:16Speaker 1: get them online or whatnot. You know, what game should
- 20:19Speaker 1: I have?
- 20:20Speaker 2: Oh?
- 20:20Speaker 1: For the PS two?
- 20:21Speaker 2: Oh boy? Oh yeah, that's a hard that's a hard question.
- 20:27Speaker 1: Yeah, because there's so many.
- 20:29Speaker 2: Good ones PlayStation two games.
- 20:34Speaker 1: Yeah, and you know, I recently unboxed my old Nintendo
- 20:39Speaker 1: Wii and it turns out I had a couple of
- 20:41Speaker 1: unopened games there, so that was. Yeah, that was kind
- 20:44Speaker 1: of cool. And though I think anybody that's going nostalgic
- 20:48Speaker 1: and you understand this, don't expect it to be the
- 20:52Speaker 1: best gaming experience ever.
- 20:53Speaker 2: Oh no, we the we experience was it was It
- 20:56Speaker 2: was different because it was just so radically out there,
- 21:04Speaker 2: because remember you went from the the sixty four, the
- 21:06Speaker 2: sixty four to the Wii. Yeah, and it was all
- 21:09Speaker 2: a sudden like, oh you have a handheld Joel like it. Yeah,
- 21:13Speaker 2: so weird. It was so the nunchucks and.
- 21:15Speaker 1: The Yeah, the next next playground perfected that. If anybody's
- 21:20Speaker 1: thinking about getting some cool next any x, I love it.
- 21:23Speaker 1: You your kids would love that.
- 21:25Speaker 2: Yeah, that's what you mentioned before. But going back to
- 21:28Speaker 2: the PlayStation two, man, Andy, that's there's so many good games.
- 21:31Speaker 2: I can't narrow it down like you've got it. Just
- 21:35Speaker 2: was saying that, you know, the the Grand Theft Auto
- 21:37Speaker 2: games were good on it because they had the first
- 21:40Speaker 2: Grandstottle three, Great Sandreas Vice City, right, those are all
- 21:45Speaker 2: on PlayStation two, so calm for the you know, Medal
- 21:49Speaker 2: of Honor games were good, but the Crash banded good games.
- 21:53Speaker 2: There's are PlayStation and PlayStation two, but that's PlayStation two
- 21:58Speaker 2: specific titles, like I can't really think of any can't
- 22:01Speaker 2: narrow it down.
- 22:03Speaker 1: Who would you say? Who would you say? Though he
- 22:05Speaker 1: was winning in the console Wars. Is it PlayStation nobody
- 22:10Speaker 1: or Microsoft nobody neither? Because I saw an article the
- 22:14Speaker 1: other day. But so Cliff Blazinski, who's actually been on
- 22:17Speaker 1: this show. He's been on tech Talk Radio when they
- 22:20Speaker 1: put out Unreal back in nineteen ninety eight. He's the
- 22:24Speaker 1: guy behind Gears of War. And he actually was part
- 22:28Speaker 1: of an article at Eurogamer that said that he believes
- 22:31Speaker 1: that Xbox is steering the ship back into the right
- 22:35Speaker 1: because it kind of it angered a lot of people
- 22:37Speaker 1: the way that Xbox was doing their marketing and you know,
- 22:40Speaker 1: how you would get your games and the whole bit.
- 22:42Speaker 1: And he says, no, that they might be going back
- 22:45Speaker 1: in the right direction.
- 22:46Speaker 2: Now maybe I'm not sure, you know, I think it
- 22:49Speaker 2: was so split, right Xbox and PlayStation. You had exclusives
- 22:55Speaker 2: on both, you had a good mix of exclusives on both,
- 23:00Speaker 2: had a lot of third party games that were available
- 23:02Speaker 2: on both. I mean, I don't know, I I was
- 23:09Speaker 2: I was always on the PlayStation side. I never really
- 23:12Speaker 2: had Xbox. I had I end up, I do own
- 23:16Speaker 2: them now, right, But I had friends that had Halo
- 23:20Speaker 2: and all that stuff. But in college and I had
- 23:22Speaker 2: the PlayStation two and the PlayStation three, but mostly it's
- 23:26Speaker 2: been PC's or Nintendo, So that experience is so.
- 23:30Speaker 1: Much better, I think, But but I don't know.
- 23:34Speaker 2: There's So this is such a loaded question because you're
- 23:37Speaker 2: gonna get so many different answers from so many different
- 23:39Speaker 2: people on which platform they liked best. Because well, I.
- 23:42Speaker 1: Did Xbox because of Microsoft flight Sim, and I wanted
- 23:47Speaker 1: to do the Xbox. I want to do the flight
- 23:49Speaker 1: sim when they made that part of the Xbox Xbox
- 23:53Speaker 1: Game Pass, which was great because then I got a
- 23:55Speaker 1: chance to play it didn't have to go and invest
- 23:58Speaker 1: like I had previously for previous copies of flight sim
- 24:02Speaker 1: because it could just got so much better and continues
- 24:04Speaker 1: to get better, and I just thought that that was
- 24:07Speaker 1: something that would be cool to have.
- 24:10Speaker 2: Well, the flight Syneme is incredible. Yeah, I don't have
- 24:14Speaker 2: time to play anymore.
- 24:15Speaker 1: Yeah, although there was a company that just put out
- 24:17Speaker 1: of something and it's like a flight sim. I want
- 24:22Speaker 1: to say it's Google Maps. I might be wrong. I'll
- 24:25Speaker 1: have to look this one up, but apparently there's something
- 24:28Speaker 1: new that you could actually fly and it might might
- 24:31Speaker 1: be Google Maps, and it's like a flight simulator that
- 24:35Speaker 1: you're actually flying over.
- 24:37Speaker 2: It's the Google AI Studio.
- 24:39Speaker 1: Google AI Study. Okay, there you go, so you.
- 24:41Speaker 2: Can actually fly around and do and.
- 24:44Speaker 1: You can access that all through your Google account, right,
- 24:47Speaker 1: I mean.
- 24:48Speaker 2: I think so. I'm trying to log it right now,
- 24:49Speaker 2: so we'll see.
- 24:50Speaker 1: Yeah, all right, you got to do that, all right, listen,
- 24:53Speaker 1: we got to take a break. Anyways, when we come back.
- 24:56Speaker 1: I got something to share with you, Sean, I got
- 25:00Speaker 1: a chance to look at and I want to get
- 25:02Speaker 1: kind of your thoughts on it. I can't remember the
- 25:06Speaker 1: password to log in, so you might have to tell
- 25:09Speaker 1: me how to reset it because I did this on TV.
- 25:13Speaker 1: I get there, I open it up the password Oh
- 25:17Speaker 1: wait a minute, and I couldn't remember it either way.
- 25:20Speaker 1: We'll do that when we come back with tech talk Radio.
- 25:23Speaker 1: I'm Andy Taylor, I'm Sean Duerg.
- 25:25Speaker 2: You can find us online at tech talk radio dot
- 25:26Speaker 2: com and your favorite podcasting platform. We'll be right back
- 25:30Speaker 2: now back to tech talk Radio.
- 25:33Speaker 1: During the break was actually pretty cool because we talked
- 25:36Speaker 1: about Google, Google Earth and some of the things they
- 25:40Speaker 1: were doing to give you almost a feel like you're
- 25:42Speaker 1: flying in a flight simulator flying over your town. So
- 25:46Speaker 1: Sean during the break has pulled this up and if
- 25:50Speaker 1: you see the video, you could watch it, but this
- 25:52Speaker 1: is something you can do yourselves as well. Sean tell us,
- 25:56Speaker 1: tell us how you got here, and how at home
- 25:59Speaker 1: listening could do this.
- 26:00Speaker 2: So somebody at work showed this to me and I
- 26:02Speaker 2: was like, well, this is pretty cool, but it's Earth,
- 26:05Speaker 2: Google Earth, but it's They have a studio program now
- 26:09Speaker 2: where you can render like a clip of Google Earth,
- 26:13Speaker 2: but it you can actually get in and like make
- 26:16Speaker 2: a sweeping flying video of like if you're watching the video.
- 26:20Speaker 2: This is in nord Day's campus right where I work.
- 26:23Speaker 2: This is pretty awesome. You can key frame it and
- 26:26Speaker 2: you can pay it and tilt and do all this
- 26:29Speaker 2: cool stuff. And it's pretty up to date.
- 26:33Speaker 1: I mean, so you when you when you first get
- 26:35Speaker 1: into the screen, you see the globe, so then you
- 26:38Speaker 1: can pick where you want to go on that globe.
- 26:40Speaker 1: Just you're pretty good at geography, so you were able
- 26:44Speaker 1: to find you know, uh, Indiana pretty pretty easily. But
- 26:49Speaker 1: uh and then you just kind of what zoom in.
- 26:52Speaker 2: Yeah, just if if you ever use Google Earth, it's
- 26:54Speaker 2: just like you know, you scrowl over the mouse wheel
- 26:56Speaker 2: or you drag around and it it's pretty wild. Because
- 27:01Speaker 2: I want to start let's say, let's say start way
- 27:02Speaker 2: out here, boom, let's maak this new keyframe.
- 27:07Speaker 1: And again you can see the video up on our website.
- 27:14Speaker 2: Apparently you can do Moon, you can do Mars. Right.
- 27:19Speaker 1: Well, I have no way of knowing that that's exactly
- 27:21Speaker 1: what it looks like, and I've never been there, but
- 27:24Speaker 1: it is still neat to see, so people have control.
- 27:27Speaker 1: I do believe that there is a and.
- 27:30Speaker 2: Actually I can show you mcna Island now, right if
- 27:32Speaker 2: they're starting back an island, right, so you go to
- 27:36Speaker 2: the you go to the up Oh my god, this
- 27:38Speaker 2: is gonna be so cool. Here's macanaw Bridge. If I can,
- 27:41Speaker 2: if I can pan this down, I don't know if
- 27:43Speaker 2: I can get in far enough.
- 27:45Speaker 1: Again the video again, you could find it google bridge.
- 27:47Speaker 2: The bridge is pretty weak, weak sauspect right, yeah, now
- 27:51Speaker 2: it's not the best up here.
- 27:52Speaker 1: I do believe there, and we'll have to researches. I
- 27:55Speaker 1: do believe there's a company that has incorporated this type
- 27:58Speaker 1: of stuff into a flight sim and I remember, you know,
- 28:03Speaker 1: Microsoft was trying stuff for a while, doing real world
- 28:06Speaker 1: mapping and something something along that line. But either way
- 28:11Speaker 1: it is you're having just way too much fun with this.
- 28:13Speaker 2: Oh yeah, but this is not it's not the greatest,
- 28:16Speaker 2: like this is the great hotel. This is not doing
- 28:18Speaker 2: it justice. This looks terrible up here.
- 28:21Speaker 1: But right, that's that's pretty cool. And there's no cost,
- 28:24Speaker 1: no cost to do this. If you want to just
- 28:25Speaker 1: jump on to Google Earth and play around with that,
- 28:28Speaker 1: that's that's kind of cool. I like that I got
- 28:31Speaker 1: something to show you, Sean that we've talked about it.
- 28:34Speaker 1: And it was cool to be able to connect with
- 28:37Speaker 1: my friends over at Apple and get myself the MacBook Neo.
- 28:42Speaker 2: You got one.
- 28:44Speaker 1: They sent one in so I could take a look
- 28:46Speaker 1: at and I showed it on television and you know,
- 28:51Speaker 1: the thing is, it's super light. I'm showing it on
- 28:54Speaker 1: the art camera right now. Super light. You've had a
- 28:58Speaker 1: chance to experience it as well. Small thirteen inch rent,
- 29:03Speaker 1: no display on it. Go ahead and open this up,
- 29:07Speaker 1: which is really cool. Track pad is not haptic. I
- 29:11Speaker 1: noticed that.
- 29:11Speaker 2: Yep, it's not.
- 29:12Speaker 1: So you know with the because you have the MacBook
- 29:15Speaker 1: Air or mach I have.
- 29:18Speaker 2: I have a I have a MacBook Pro.
- 29:21Speaker 1: MacBook Pro all right, so that's got the haptic keyboard.
- 29:25Speaker 2: Yeah, this one's the actual physical butterfly like press, physical keyboard, physical.
- 29:30Speaker 1: Touch bad you feel it? Yeah, this one is you know,
- 29:33Speaker 1: a little harder you you know, when you click on it,
- 29:36Speaker 1: you can feel that. The other thing about this one, now,
- 29:40Speaker 1: this is the the base model, which is this sells
- 29:43Speaker 1: for five five ninety nine, and if you're a student
- 29:47Speaker 1: or with a registered educational address as a teacher, you
- 29:51Speaker 1: can get it for four ninety nine. So you would
- 29:53Speaker 1: be able to pick this up for four ninety nine. Yes,
- 29:56Speaker 1: with the with the work you do, if you want
- 29:59Speaker 1: to spend one hundred dollars more, this has two hundred
- 30:02Speaker 1: and fifty six gigabytes of storage, five twelve gigabytes of
- 30:06Speaker 1: storage for one hundred dollars more for uh for six
- 30:10Speaker 1: ninety nine. But you also with that six ninety nine,
- 30:14Speaker 1: tell me if you think this is worth it. You
- 30:16Speaker 1: get the lock screen, so the lock key, so it's
- 30:19Speaker 1: almost like a you know, a password key, a hardware key.
- 30:23Speaker 1: You could use your fingerprint to log in and log
- 30:26Speaker 1: off of different you know programs.
- 30:28Speaker 2: That you may use.
- 30:29Speaker 1: The biometric yep, biometric Now, I don't know about that one.
- 30:33Speaker 1: I think they just set the same number of ports.
- 30:36Speaker 1: You get two ports. That's it.
- 30:38Speaker 2: Yep.
- 30:39Speaker 1: That's the USB C U three and USB C two.
- 30:44Speaker 1: So it's good enough to power up maybe one monitor
- 30:48Speaker 1: if you want.
- 30:48Speaker 2: Well, you know you, I believe you only get one
- 30:50Speaker 2: extra like one display with it, one external display. I
- 30:53Speaker 2: think that's it.
- 30:54Speaker 1: Yeah, that was It's okay.
- 30:56Speaker 2: People don't realize, like, this is not traditional laptop. This
- 31:02Speaker 2: is running off of a the iPhone sixteen pro phone chip,
- 31:08Speaker 2: the A eighteen. Yeah, so that's it. It's running a
- 31:14Speaker 2: phone CPUGPU combo a phone, right, It's crazy.
- 31:22Speaker 1: People have been super happy with the professors that it
- 31:26Speaker 1: puts out for.
- 31:27Speaker 2: Basic computer functions. It works great. It is the it is,
- 31:31Speaker 2: and it is sent the budget PC market into shambles,
- 31:37Speaker 2: and it became one of their best selling products. It
- 31:41Speaker 2: sold out, and they found a hidden jam that they
- 31:47Speaker 2: can just say, well, you've got all these old eight
- 31:50Speaker 2: what are we gonna do with all these old phone chips.
- 31:52Speaker 2: Why don't we just slim them into a thirteen inch
- 31:55Speaker 2: MacBook and called something cool? Yeah, and they did that,
- 31:59Speaker 2: and they gave it a couple of cool colors. And
- 32:01Speaker 2: there's nothing stopping him from doing it with all the
- 32:03Speaker 2: old A nineteen pro chips or whatever chips are coming
- 32:07Speaker 2: out with next.
- 32:10Speaker 1: And they did it.
- 32:11Speaker 2: They did it at the right time, and people that
- 32:14Speaker 2: bottom up bottom at the right time because now the
- 32:17Speaker 2: ramp prices are crazy, they increase the price on them.
- 32:21Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 32:21Speaker 2: So it somebody, I don't know if it was Tim
- 32:25Speaker 2: Cook or whoever, had a great idea and they executed
- 32:28Speaker 2: it at the right time, and he just disrupted the
- 32:31Speaker 2: budget the budget laptop market, and you can't get comparable
- 32:37Speaker 2: specs on a PC without spending upwards of a figure
- 32:42Speaker 2: that has a COMMA in it.
- 32:44Speaker 1: So one thing I noticed Sean about this is, you know, yeah,
- 32:49Speaker 1: it's slim. There's no fans on it. Nope, there's it's
- 32:53Speaker 1: a fanless design. And the aluminum is I want to say,
- 32:57Speaker 1: sixty percent recycle aluminum to put it together. But it
- 33:01Speaker 1: feels sturdy, and uh, I mean it's not a touch screen,
- 33:06Speaker 1: so you know, you're not going to get the touch
- 33:08Speaker 1: screen feature out of it. But for somebody that's going
- 33:11Speaker 1: to school, for somebody that wants to use it that
- 33:13Speaker 1: does basic work like documents, I put Libra Office on it.
- 33:18Speaker 1: Although you know, because again I haven't used a Mac
- 33:21Speaker 1: in years, so I had I have to become familiar
- 33:24Speaker 1: with what prod What programs would I use right out
- 33:27Speaker 1: of the box if I'm a PC user, you know,
- 33:30Speaker 1: but PC users have have migrated to this for the price,
- 33:35Speaker 1: you know, And well, I mean it's even, it's even at.
- 33:38Speaker 2: The price point where for education it's almost it's almost
- 33:42Speaker 2: as good as some chromebooks cost. Chromebooks are in the
- 33:46Speaker 2: two ninety nine range, but an educator that can afford
- 33:51Speaker 2: a little bit more can get MacBook neho's and they're
- 33:55Speaker 2: gonna just blow the payants off a chromebook.
- 34:00Speaker 1: Yeah, so twice. And the speakers are on the side right,
- 34:04Speaker 1: which like you said, which.
- 34:06Speaker 2: Which I said this last time when I when I
- 34:08Speaker 2: did it, I am a I don't know what you
- 34:10Speaker 2: call it, but like I am a My arms are
- 34:13Speaker 2: stuck out like a butterfly when I when I type right,
- 34:17Speaker 2: and my fat arms sit on the the edge of
- 34:21Speaker 2: the laptop. So it was to store. It was changing
- 34:25Speaker 2: the dynamic, the sound dynamics of the laptop because they're
- 34:28Speaker 2: side firing speakers, so the audio comes out the side,
- 34:34Speaker 2: but when my arms are down. Because I kept doing
- 34:37Speaker 2: this when I was I was like, why does it
- 34:38Speaker 2: sound so different when I'm typing versus when I'm not,
- 34:40Speaker 2: and it was just changing the dynamic of the sound
- 34:43Speaker 2: based on how my arms were on it, which I
- 34:45Speaker 2: didn't like at all, Like it just completely disrupted the
- 34:47Speaker 2: user experience for me, Like I wouldn't get one solely
- 34:51Speaker 2: because of that.
- 34:52Speaker 1: Well, now here's one thing you could do. Uh, Logitech
- 34:56Speaker 1: puts out and I know you know Apple has them
- 34:58Speaker 1: as well, the Canical Mini for the Mac. So if
- 35:02Speaker 1: you want to, you know, push this back a little
- 35:04Speaker 1: and use this for your typing, you could do that.
- 35:07Speaker 1: There is no ten key on it, so if you
- 35:09Speaker 1: were thinking, oh, I want to I like to have
- 35:11Speaker 1: ten key that you don't get with that, I have
- 35:16Speaker 1: this one as well. This is a Lodgy as well.
- 35:19Speaker 1: This one does have ten key and it connects you know,
- 35:22Speaker 1: via Bluetooth. That one works out pretty good too. But
- 35:26Speaker 1: here's something else I was going to recommend. Oops, there
- 35:29Speaker 1: we go, all right. Something else I was going to
- 35:31Speaker 1: recommend is from easy Quest And actually I got this
- 35:35Speaker 1: for you, Sean. I'm gonna be sending this to you,
- 35:39Speaker 1: but because I don't get to keep the Neo, I
- 35:41Speaker 1: do have to set it back. But this is a
- 35:43Speaker 1: USB C multimedia hub built upon mac so.
- 35:49Speaker 2: Which I need. I need one for my Mac Minie,
- 35:52Speaker 2: which is preferably mounted under my desk.
- 35:55Speaker 1: Then yeah, you would love that because it plugs right
- 35:58Speaker 1: into the two spots yep. And then you have the
- 36:00Speaker 1: ability to have HDMI. You have USB you know, USBA
- 36:05Speaker 1: or USB three I should say USB c's and you
- 36:08Speaker 1: have an SD card reader and Ethernet and a vgah
- 36:13Speaker 1: a VGA. So I would recommend if you're going to
- 36:16Speaker 1: get a Neo, get one of these products from easy
- 36:19Speaker 1: Quests as well the hubs. They make all kinds of
- 36:22Speaker 1: great hubs. This one would be good. So yes, I yeah,
- 36:27Speaker 1: I got this out of a box, the box that
- 36:30Speaker 1: I had to send to Sean. So I was like, oh, yeah,
- 36:32Speaker 1: Sean will use this, he's got a he's a Mac.
- 36:34Speaker 1: And then this one came in and I took it
- 36:35Speaker 1: out of the box said oh no, you got to
- 36:37Speaker 1: have this one too.
- 36:38Speaker 2: You got our listeners need to understand occasionally I just
- 36:41Speaker 2: get random boxes that I don't know where they come from,
- 36:45Speaker 2: and it's andy having a vendor shited be something that
- 36:47Speaker 2: we were trying out, or it's like I just get
- 36:49Speaker 2: a box from some unknown person and I opened up
- 36:53Speaker 2: and it's oh, it's a fun piece of technology. I
- 36:54Speaker 2: love it.
- 36:55Speaker 1: But did you build the soccer I'm doing?
- 36:58Speaker 2: Yeah this week because this World Cup, I get this
- 37:01Speaker 2: s weep with Max, and I think next week we
- 37:03Speaker 2: should be able to have something.
- 37:04Speaker 1: To show that is pretty cool. But yeah, so I
- 37:07Speaker 1: get a chance. So the crazy thing is is you know,
- 37:10Speaker 1: setting it up. And I set it up the weekend,
- 37:13Speaker 1: you know before, on Saturday before I went into the
- 37:16Speaker 1: studio and started playing around with it, and I thought
- 37:19Speaker 1: it was cool. And then I get to the studio
- 37:22Speaker 1: and I open it up and you know, it's powered up.
- 37:24Speaker 1: I had powered it up. Make sure you get about
- 37:26Speaker 1: sixteen hours battery life of that too. Battery life is
- 37:29Speaker 1: really good on the Neo. And I couldn't remember the
- 37:31Speaker 1: password to get back, so basically I had to show
- 37:35Speaker 1: it without going into the different screens. I'll tell you this,
- 37:39Speaker 1: if you have an iPhone, if you're an iPhone user,
- 37:41Speaker 1: it pairs perfectly with your iPhone. So if you want
- 37:45Speaker 1: to be able to read your messages on your Neo
- 37:48Speaker 1: or send messages and then get them on your iPhone,
- 37:52Speaker 1: that was also a cool feature. So Sean, is iMovie
- 37:55Speaker 1: come with this stuff? Or is that stuff you have
- 37:57Speaker 1: to go into the Apple Store and get I think
- 38:00Speaker 1: you have to download from the Apple Store. But it
- 38:02Speaker 1: doesn't come preloaded anymore like it used to with Garage
- 38:05Speaker 1: Band and Keynote and all that stuff. I mean, I'm
- 38:07Speaker 1: sure there's some of those apps still on there.
- 38:10Speaker 2: You could do some light video editing some like if
- 38:13Speaker 2: you're not doing anything four K or anything like that,
- 38:15Speaker 2: you can do some light room classic or you know,
- 38:17Speaker 2: some light photo editing.
- 38:20Speaker 1: Maybe even some canvas stuff you can probably do with
- 38:23Speaker 1: that maybe.
- 38:24Speaker 2: But the thing that the thing that I the thing
- 38:27Speaker 2: that I thought Apple should have done is I think
- 38:32Speaker 2: they should have also it's a cell phone chip. Yeah,
- 38:36Speaker 2: I think they should have put a SIM in it.
- 38:39Speaker 3: We thought that they were going to do that, right,
- 38:40Speaker 3: we talked right right, that was one of my like
- 38:44Speaker 3: wish list pre order, like, this is what they should
- 38:47Speaker 3: do because just think about that, right, how cool would
- 38:50Speaker 3: that have been if you could take if you could
- 38:53Speaker 3: just take your laptop and have internet wherever you have
- 38:57Speaker 3: cell phone service.
- 38:58Speaker 2: Yeah, that would have been to be a content content
- 39:02Speaker 2: creator on the go instead of doing something with your phone.
- 39:06Speaker 2: I don't know, I mean, I'm sure some marketing person
- 39:08Speaker 2: thought about that. And they did some study that spent
- 39:11Speaker 2: my yearly salary costs more than my yearly salary to
- 39:15Speaker 2: do a study on why that wasn't gonna work. And
- 39:18Speaker 2: then the shan'san idiot for thinking about that, But I
- 39:21Speaker 2: think it'd be pretty cool.
- 39:22Speaker 1: But yeah, all right, we're gonna take a break, come back.
- 39:25Speaker 1: We got a couple of listener questions. We'll do that
- 39:27Speaker 1: when we come back with tech Talk Radio. I'm Andy Taylor,
- 39:29Speaker 1: I'm seand find us on Facebook.
- 39:31Speaker 2: Tech Talkers will be right.
- 39:32Speaker 1: Back and now back to tech Talk Radio.
- 39:37Speaker 2: So this is one of my favorite parts of the show.
- 39:40Speaker 2: And we get every week. We get people writing us,
- 39:43Speaker 2: calling us, emailing us, tweeting us, whatever, saying questions.
- 39:47Speaker 1: A lot of Facebook too.
- 39:48Speaker 2: Yeah, and it's fun because we get to answer real
- 39:51Speaker 2: questions about tech. So I'll read one of these from
- 39:54Speaker 2: Gina and Tucson. My husband sends me photos and when
- 39:58Speaker 2: I download them, they are HGIC format. What is that?
- 40:01Speaker 2: It just seems strange and I figured you might know.
- 40:03Speaker 2: I asked him and that was his answer.
- 40:06Speaker 1: I don't know, so he's probably sending them to Google
- 40:13Speaker 1: like he's probably is he emailing him or.
- 40:15Speaker 2: We also by default on the iPhone, it's set. This
- 40:20Speaker 2: is a it's high hg C stands for High Efficiency
- 40:25Speaker 2: Image Container, all right, It's basically Apple's photo format. It's
- 40:30Speaker 2: just the way Apple wraps their pictures in there. It's
- 40:34Speaker 2: a format. Okay, So it's Apple's default photo format on
- 40:38Speaker 2: the iPhone because it provides smaller file sizes than JPEG.
- 40:41Speaker 2: So it's basically more compression, but it's a higher efficiency.
- 40:45Speaker 2: So by default, you take a photo on your iPhone
- 40:48Speaker 2: and you send it to someone, it's HIC. You can
- 40:52Speaker 2: go in and turn that off. So they are JPEGs,
- 40:55Speaker 2: but they take a little bit more storage. Now it's
- 40:58Speaker 2: negligible in terms of size, but as you can more
- 41:00Speaker 2: and more thousands of photos, et cetera. But it's not
- 41:04Speaker 2: always natively viewable on Windows. Okay, So a lot of
- 41:10Speaker 2: times if I send a photo or I air drop
- 41:14Speaker 2: a photo from my phone to my computer and drag
- 41:17Speaker 2: it from the messaging app to the desktop, it's h
- 41:19Speaker 2: g i C. Meaning if I drop it into our
- 41:24Speaker 2: server stuff that like our our playback system at work,
- 41:27Speaker 2: it doesn't know what to do with it. Because it's
- 41:29Speaker 2: it's a Linux based system. It doesn't It's like what
- 41:31Speaker 2: is this? It can't read it, et cetera. So I
- 41:33Speaker 2: have to convert it from h C to jpeg. So
- 41:36Speaker 2: how do you do that? Right? So, if you're just
- 41:39Speaker 2: viewing the photos, right, if you're just viewing them native
- 41:43Speaker 2: support on Mac, whether you're on Mac, os iOS, et cetera,
- 41:48Speaker 2: so preview can do it. This is one of my
- 41:50Speaker 2: favorite features about Mac is if you highlight something on
- 41:53Speaker 2: the desktop and you hit space bar, it'll open it
- 41:56Speaker 2: in a like pseudo preview window, meaning you can preview
- 41:59Speaker 2: it at size, you can look at it, inspect it,
- 42:01Speaker 2: et cetera. But if you open it in preview, then
- 42:04Speaker 2: you can actually view it and then actually export it
- 42:07Speaker 2: from preview as a JPEG.
- 42:09Speaker 1: Oh okay, got it.
- 42:10Speaker 2: Windows eleven, you can view them if you have installed
- 42:14Speaker 2: the HIF Image Extensions installer from the Microsoft Store.
- 42:18Speaker 1: So if you're going to be getting a lot of these,
- 42:20Speaker 1: which it sounds like maybe Gina is going to be doing,
- 42:23Speaker 1: and she's just wondering, I'm not sure if she's on.
- 42:27Speaker 2: A different platform, whether she's not. She could be on
- 42:31Speaker 2: a Mac, she could be on but it's just it's
- 42:34Speaker 2: just another file format like jpeg, PNG, BMP, bitmap.
- 42:39Speaker 1: You'll obviously get a reduced file size. I wonder if
- 42:42Speaker 1: you get a better quality out of each h G
- 42:44Speaker 1: I C than you do with JPEG.
- 42:46Speaker 2: Maybe, I mean you might. I'm just not sure if
- 42:48Speaker 2: it's better file size, if it's just a better compression.
- 42:52Speaker 2: But you know, JPEG is a standard, right, so right
- 42:56Speaker 2: people have to realize that when you take a photo
- 42:58Speaker 2: and it's saving it as jpeg, Apple has paid a
- 43:01Speaker 2: license to Jpeg for that codec. Just like H two
- 43:05Speaker 2: six four, just like H six five. Those are all
- 43:07Speaker 2: codecs that Apple has paid licenses to to support those codecs.
- 43:12Speaker 2: So hi C is their own, which means they don't
- 43:16Speaker 2: have to license it.
- 43:16Speaker 1: They can just do it, right.
- 43:19Speaker 2: So, but if you want to be able to view them,
- 43:21Speaker 2: you have to have a platform that can view them,
- 43:23Speaker 2: whether that's a Mac based platform or a software that
- 43:27Speaker 2: can read h gacs.
- 43:28Speaker 1: We Photoshop I believe can do that.
- 43:30Speaker 2: Photoshop, Gimp, Linux can do it if you have the
- 43:34Speaker 2: AHAF libraries are installed.
- 43:36Speaker 1: So I don't know if that helps Eugena, But now
- 43:38Speaker 1: maybe you know at least what that is. And if
- 43:40Speaker 1: you're thinking you know something there is, it's going to be.
- 43:43Speaker 1: It's all it.
- 43:44Speaker 2: Is is it's a photo from an iOS device, Okay,
- 43:47Speaker 2: typically of iPhone typically.
- 43:49Speaker 1: So right, here's what we got from Rick, and I
- 43:53Speaker 1: like this one because people ask this question all the time,
- 43:56Speaker 1: and you know they're they're curious. They have no idea
- 43:59Speaker 1: that how it can work. For him says, I've heard
- 44:02Speaker 1: you guys talk about AI and fixing photos. Now we
- 44:05Speaker 1: got this photo. This question actually a couple of weeks ago,
- 44:07Speaker 1: and we couldn't fit it in last time. But he says, well,
- 44:10Speaker 1: I am not a fan of AI. I like a
- 44:13Speaker 1: Rick had to say that. He said, I do want
- 44:15Speaker 1: to give it a try.
- 44:16Speaker 2: Of course you do.
- 44:17Speaker 1: Everybody does, right, What would be the best way to
- 44:20Speaker 1: start out? I have a PC, but everybody wants a
- 44:23Speaker 1: subscription do this stuff. And that's from Rick and Tucson
- 44:27Speaker 1: as well.
- 44:28Speaker 2: Boy, I mean he's right, everybody wants the subscription to
- 44:31Speaker 2: do it. Yeah, I I you've done it, you've played
- 44:36Speaker 2: with it at AI.
- 44:37Speaker 1: Yeah, I have better. It's got.
- 44:41Speaker 2: I have a moral artistic dilemma with Photo AI with photos, right,
- 44:50Speaker 2: I will not use it to manipulate my photos. I
- 44:53Speaker 2: will not use it to remove stuff. I will not
- 44:56Speaker 2: use it to change colors. I will not use it
- 44:59Speaker 2: to ad stuff. I will not use it. The only
- 45:02Speaker 2: AI that I've used in my images is AI noise reduction.
- 45:07Speaker 2: So it's just processing the image, looking at the noise
- 45:09Speaker 2: and interpolating and give me a little bit of clean
- 45:12Speaker 2: It's built into light room, it's built into Photoshop, and
- 45:15Speaker 2: it does a really good job. They've had AI and
- 45:17Speaker 2: they've had noise reduction for decades, so I don't feel
- 45:20Speaker 2: that bad about it. But it's gotten so much better
- 45:23Speaker 2: that it cleans up the noise a lot and a
- 45:24Speaker 2: lot of images and gives you a sharp image. But
- 45:27Speaker 2: I'm not using Firefly. I'm not using anything to I
- 45:32Speaker 2: have always had and I'm standing by this as my
- 45:35Speaker 2: artistic principle. I don't. I don't use photoshop on my
- 45:40Speaker 2: images except to do some some color balancing, some exposure
- 45:45Speaker 2: various as histogram changes, et cetera. But I'm not using
- 45:49Speaker 2: it to add remove I'm as production. I'm not doing it.
- 45:53Speaker 2: I'm not.
- 45:54Speaker 1: It's funny because you're you're you know, you're saying I
- 45:58Speaker 1: won't use photoshop. And there were a lot of photograph
- 46:00Speaker 1: first about ten years ago that would say I'm not
- 46:02Speaker 1: using photoshop. I would go to you know, Photoshop World
- 46:05Speaker 1: conferences that you know that were put on and they
- 46:10Speaker 1: were great, but you would run into the photographer say,
- 46:13Speaker 1: I'm here, but I you know, I'm a photographer. I
- 46:16Speaker 1: won't use photoshop, and you know, it's a thing there.
- 46:20Speaker 1: There were certain things that photoshop could do that were great,
- 46:24Speaker 1: and if you shoot raw, there were things in light
- 46:27Speaker 1: room that were amazing to make that picture pop even more.
- 46:31Speaker 1: But then now you have the people that are saying,
- 46:34Speaker 1: I'm not even a photographer, but I want to take
- 46:37Speaker 1: photos like it sounds like maybe Rick wants to do
- 46:39Speaker 1: and fix them and take photos. And I've done this
- 46:43Speaker 1: where I get an old photo and I'll just say,
- 46:47Speaker 1: let's see what GEM and I can do, and I'll
- 46:50Speaker 1: do it. I had one recently a friend of mine
- 46:53Speaker 1: who was going to be moving across the country, and
- 46:57Speaker 1: she had a picture of her and her mom, but
- 46:59Speaker 1: there was a big blash of light coming in over them,
- 47:03Speaker 1: and so she said, hey, I know, you you know
- 47:06Speaker 1: do the stuff. Can you try it? I'm sure I did,
- 47:09Speaker 1: and it got rid of that big wolf swash of
- 47:12Speaker 1: light and it looked very natural, and I was happy
- 47:15Speaker 1: with it, except I looked at the picture and I said,
- 47:18Speaker 1: they're washed out, the faces are just two doesn't have
- 47:23Speaker 1: any natural color. So I put it in the light room,
- 47:26Speaker 1: so I didn't expect Gemini did do. I went in
- 47:28Speaker 1: a light room and I started adjusting the color settings
- 47:31Speaker 1: in light room to experience that and play around, and
- 47:35Speaker 1: it came out perfect. So again, it's like, the tools
- 47:39Speaker 1: are there. You know, Rick does sounds like it doesn't
- 47:42Speaker 1: want to use them. I know if Sean you're like, yeah, no, no, no.
- 47:46Speaker 1: But when you get something and you say, I want
- 47:48Speaker 1: to see if I can make this look better, I would.
- 47:53Speaker 1: If I was going to tell Rick a starting place,
- 47:57Speaker 1: it would probably be Gemini. Chat GBT does it as well,
- 48:02Speaker 1: but I would say Gemini if it's just photos. If
- 48:04Speaker 1: you're looking to create full graphics. Again, I don't know
- 48:07Speaker 1: about that one because they all look alike. Now, every
- 48:10Speaker 1: graphic you see, every ad for a restaurant, they all
- 48:14Speaker 1: look the same. They have the same little boxes under it.
- 48:17Speaker 1: You know. It's just like, I don't know. If it
- 48:19Speaker 1: became the standard, you could have maybe more flexibility if
- 48:22Speaker 1: you want to use Canva even then there's some elements
- 48:25Speaker 1: in there, or if you want to create it an
- 48:27Speaker 1: illustrator or created in photoshop, you know, maybe just using
- 48:32Speaker 1: what you see, what you like and what you don't like.
- 48:34Speaker 1: But again they all look the same. But I would
- 48:36Speaker 1: say Gemini first. Maybe if you're and you are allowed
- 48:41Speaker 1: certain generations in Gemini without having to get a subscription,
- 48:45Speaker 1: if you have a Google account, but even if you're
- 48:47Speaker 1: not paying for it, give it a try for a
- 48:50Speaker 1: couple of see how you feel about it, because you
- 48:52Speaker 1: might have you know, I don't know, Sean, You've got
- 48:54Speaker 1: those photos that are from you know, nineteen thirties, nineteen forties,
- 48:58Speaker 1: nineteen fifties. Some of them have damage to them.
- 49:01Speaker 2: I'm sure I'm not putting them through. I'm not doing it.
- 49:04Speaker 1: You just keep on that singing.
- 49:05Speaker 2: I will put them into. I would rather pay somebody,
- 49:11Speaker 2: a professional to not use AI to do it and
- 49:14Speaker 2: do it by hand rather than do AI. I just
- 49:18Speaker 2: those photos mean that much to me that Yeah, I'm
- 49:21Speaker 2: sure it's cheaper for me to do AI, but I
- 49:23Speaker 2: just don't know. Plus they're being uploaded, yes, so then
- 49:30Speaker 2: do I is it? What? Am I training the model
- 49:33Speaker 2: with my photos? Now? So now it's up there, so
- 49:36Speaker 2: I mean it's on Google Photos. I'm sure it's up
- 49:39Speaker 2: there already. But you know what I mean. But I
- 49:43Speaker 2: don't out of all those pictures that I scanned, right,
- 49:46Speaker 2: I just ran up through lightroom and I adjusted exposure,
- 49:49Speaker 2: white balanced a couple of things. I didn't do anything
- 49:51Speaker 2: else besides that. I didn't touch anything up. I didn't
- 49:54Speaker 2: clean them up. I didn't dust or move. I didn't
- 49:56Speaker 2: do any of that. So I just I've had a
- 50:00Speaker 2: you know, I started shooting on film back in the
- 50:02Speaker 2: early two thousands, well way before that. My mom was
- 50:05Speaker 2: shooting on film wait before. Clearly my grandparents were shooting
- 50:08Speaker 2: on it back in the fifties. So there's just and
- 50:14Speaker 2: this is just me. I'm not being anti AI, I'm
- 50:17Speaker 2: not being you know, Doomsday or whatever. But there is
- 50:21Speaker 2: a human element to art that is slowly going to
- 50:24Speaker 2: the wayside, and it's depressing and I'm mad about it.
- 50:27Speaker 2: And I'm gonna tell people I'm mad about it because
- 50:30Speaker 2: you start taking the human element out of art, but
- 50:34Speaker 2: you're going to get slop. You're gonna get there's gonna
- 50:40Speaker 2: be no emotion, there's gonna be no it's just gonna
- 50:42Speaker 2: be stuff. And I really think that's a thing. I'm
- 50:48Speaker 2: gonna stand by is you can't take the human element
- 50:51Speaker 2: out of art, you know.
- 50:53Speaker 1: I think one of the things I've been seeing right
- 50:55Speaker 1: now Sean on social media is there putting up stuff
- 51:01Speaker 1: that is completely wrong and then blaming it on AI.
- 51:05Speaker 1: But the stuff they put up is so wrong, like
- 51:08Speaker 1: you would never in your right mind post something like
- 51:10Speaker 1: this knowing it's blatantly wrong. The guy who discovered comet
- 51:15Speaker 1: hale bop right, it's named that because his name was
- 51:19Speaker 1: Alan Hale. Right, he passed away and somebody posted this
- 51:26Speaker 1: brilliant dedication to Alan Hale and the photo they used
- 51:31Speaker 1: was that the skipper from Gilligan's Island that Alan Hale.
- 51:35Speaker 1: But the thing is, what did it do? Rather than
- 51:37Speaker 1: somebody just scrolling over it? It generated a lot of
- 51:42Speaker 1: interaction on this guy's post, and I'm thinking he had
- 51:46Speaker 1: to have known that that's not the guy. I don't know,
- 51:51Speaker 1: but gosh, it was great reading the comments from the people.
- 51:57Speaker 1: The skipper did not invent comet al bup. All right,
- 52:02Speaker 1: we're gonna take a quick break. We come back. We
- 52:04Speaker 1: got more of tech talk Radio. I'm Andy Taylor.
- 52:06Speaker 2: I'm showing the word send us an next at tech

- 52:16Speaker 1: He lay the cable guy and you're listening to tech
- 52:19Speaker 1: cock Radio. I got a good question for you, Sean.
- 52:24Speaker 1: If somebody was to ask you, what's one piece of
- 52:28Speaker 1: technology you couldn't live without?
- 52:31Speaker 2: I just asked me to see O today, really, and
- 52:34Speaker 2: I couldn't think of it.
- 52:35Speaker 1: Really, you couldn't, like.
- 52:36Speaker 2: What is what should I not live without?
- 52:39Speaker 1: Yeah, when you think of technology, technology that you have
- 52:42Speaker 1: at hand that you say, now, I couldn't live without,
- 52:45Speaker 1: what is it? What would it be?
- 52:47Speaker 2: Oh my god, I don't know. If I say my phone,
- 52:50Speaker 2: Well then what if if it's just my phone? What
- 52:52Speaker 2: do I have? The Internet? Reddit? Do I have the
- 52:55Speaker 2: ability to read?
- 52:57Speaker 1: Do you use your smartphone more than you use your computer?
- 53:00Speaker 2: Yes? I do for day to day stuff computer at work.
- 53:04Speaker 2: I use my laptop all the time at work, I
- 53:06Speaker 2: use my phone a ton. But I can't do everything
- 53:08Speaker 2: I need to do on my phone in the web
- 53:10Speaker 2: browser or things like that. They're making me easier. Man,
- 53:13Speaker 2: p times, I can't can't live without. It has to
- 53:16Speaker 2: be the music. It has to be radio of some
- 53:18Speaker 2: sort I listened to the radio. I mean, everybody think
- 53:20Speaker 2: about it, right, That's something you get in the car
- 53:22Speaker 2: and you listen to some form of content on the radio,
- 53:26Speaker 2: whether it's a podcast or or the radio, actual radio,
- 53:29Speaker 2: or this show for this show, you know, and it's
- 53:32Speaker 2: been around for a long time, you know, it has
- 53:34Speaker 2: to be some sort of radio, whether it's my ham
- 53:36Speaker 2: radio stuff or just radio. Just being able to listen.
- 53:39Speaker 2: I find a lot of value in just being able
- 53:41Speaker 2: to scan the radio waves and listen to whatever's coming in.
- 53:45Speaker 2: You know. I've got a short wave radio, which is cool.
- 53:47Speaker 2: I can bring in all stuff, stuff from all over
- 53:48Speaker 2: the world. I'm just gonna say radio and leave that.
- 53:51Speaker 2: It's vague as vague as humanly possible.
- 53:53Speaker 1: I think for me, I should say radio because it's
- 53:56Speaker 1: it's my living But no, for me, I think it
- 53:59Speaker 1: would be internet, because uh, we just become so tied
- 54:02Speaker 1: to it.
- 54:03Speaker 2: Well, I think I think as a fundamental human thing,
- 54:06Speaker 2: like if the internet went out, how screwed would everybody be?
- 54:09Speaker 1: Oh?
- 54:10Speaker 2: Yeah, how would you communicate? How would you How many
- 54:12Speaker 2: people do you think don't have maps in their car?
- 54:14Speaker 2: I have an Atlas in my car. It's burned into
- 54:17Speaker 2: my brain from my mom. My mom always drove with
- 54:19Speaker 2: an analysis. My ali was always my in laws. Yeah,
- 54:24Speaker 2: my mom.
- 54:24Speaker 1: My mom always still to.
- 54:26Speaker 2: This day, draws out her root mn wow. When we
- 54:29Speaker 2: do a big trip, big family trip, she would always
- 54:31Speaker 2: draw out our trip in highlighter and trip map our
- 54:35Speaker 2: stops and do all that stuff. And that's how I
- 54:37Speaker 2: first learned how to calculate gas mileage was by reading
- 54:40Speaker 2: the mile markers on the rab McNelly and then doing
- 54:43Speaker 2: the You know, every time we got gas, my mom
- 54:44Speaker 2: will hand the receipts and say how many miles did
- 54:46Speaker 2: we go? How muchould we pay for gas?
- 54:47Speaker 1: And there is somebody listening right now that is agreeing
- 54:50Speaker 1: with you on.
- 54:52Speaker 2: That.
- 54:52Speaker 1: Definitely all right listen. That wraps up this week's show.
- 54:56Speaker 1: When to remind you everybody, one of my new favorite shows,
