- 1:37Speaker 1: The popcorn moment, Let's go, let's go, let's go, let's go.
- 1:40Speaker 1: It's a story you need to hear to believe. Then
- 1:42Speaker 1: grab your popcorn because there is more.
- 1:46Speaker 2: Ryan Hendrick from the WIBC newsroom meets up with the
- 1:53Speaker 2: Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears because lots of questions about
- 1:58Speaker 2: Ryan Meers. You have people who believe that Ryan Meres
- 2:02Speaker 2: should be investigated.
- 2:07Speaker 1: For things being done. Well, I should take that back.
- 2:11Speaker 2: You have people who believe that Joe Hogseet should be
- 2:13Speaker 2: investigated for things that are being done. And why is
- 2:18Speaker 2: it that Ryan Meers isn't moving forward on those things.
- 2:21Speaker 2: Then you have questions about why Ryan Meers doesn't engage
- 2:23Speaker 2: in prosecutions against well, you know, criminals. If you want
- 2:30Speaker 2: to tell me that Ryan Mears is doing a top
- 2:33Speaker 2: notch job, I'm gonna smile and say bless your heart
- 2:36Speaker 2: and then say no.
- 2:37Speaker 1: You can't come into my home because he's not.
- 2:41Speaker 2: But being the newsman Ryan Hedrick is who brings you
- 2:44Speaker 2: the morning news. Here he goes to where Ryan Meers
- 2:49Speaker 2: is to ask the questions.
- 2:51Speaker 3: Couldy Idioapolis Mayor Joe hogg Set face a criminal investigation?
- 2:55Speaker 3: Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Meres is discussing what that would
- 2:59Speaker 3: look like while defending his office is record on crime.
- 3:02Speaker 3: Mer's comments on Thursday come after Mere India and The
- 3:05Speaker 3: Indie Star reported that hog Set has shaky connections to
- 3:09Speaker 3: political donors in city contracts.
- 3:11Speaker 4: People want to call out the state police. If people
- 3:13Speaker 4: want to call out IMPD and say they need to
- 3:15Speaker 4: investigate Joe hogg Sett, that's fine. And if someone brings
- 3:18Speaker 4: us a case and we need to make a decision
- 3:21Speaker 4: as to should we file the charge or not, that's
- 3:23Speaker 4: something that we can do. One of the first cases
- 3:25Speaker 4: I prosecuted was a democratically a Democrat elected trustee in
- 3:29Speaker 4: Wayne Township. We've charged two city and sheriffs this year alone,
- 3:35Speaker 4: and so if there are elected officials who are accused
- 3:37Speaker 4: of rog doing, the Marion County Prosecutor's office sits in
- 3:40Speaker 4: a unique position where we have jurisdiction over most things,
- 3:42Speaker 4: and if it's appropriate, we'll file charges.
- 3:45Speaker 2: By the way, that's the part that drives people like
- 3:47Speaker 2: the state Attorney General Todd Rokeana crazy that all the
- 3:50Speaker 2: powers within these counties and that when they don't act
- 3:54Speaker 2: like Ryan Meers doesn't act in a whole host of things,
- 3:57Speaker 2: he can't therefore act. But that's the Marion County prosecutor saying,
- 4:03Speaker 2: show me where the case is and we'll follow it. Now,
- 4:08Speaker 2: there's a follow up question of who would believe him,
- 4:10Speaker 2: But let's go back to Ryan Hedrick now.
- 4:14Speaker 3: Lately, political leaders in Donut counties have been complaining about
- 4:17Speaker 3: Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears in the spillover crime from Indianapolis.
- 4:21Speaker 3: On Monday, Delaware County commissioners took a vote of no
- 4:25Speaker 3: confidence against Meares. He said, every attack against his office
- 4:29Speaker 3: and the work they do is political.
- 4:31Speaker 4: It's a good talking point for some people politically, but
- 4:34Speaker 4: the reality is to people who are on the streets,
- 4:36Speaker 4: who are doing the work, I'm grateful for all the
- 4:38Speaker 4: partnerships that we have, and we wouldn't be able to
- 4:40Speaker 4: convict those individuals, and we wouldn't see our homicide numbers
- 4:43Speaker 4: decrease unless everybody was coming together to work together with.
- 4:46Speaker 1: A hold on a second prosecutor.
- 4:49Speaker 2: You think that's because of you. You think numbers are down,
- 4:53Speaker 2: as they're down across the country, thrilled by the way,
- 4:56Speaker 2: because of you.
- 5:00Speaker 1: We know that a man was shot and killed in
- 5:02Speaker 1: a parking garage. And if it.
- 5:04Speaker 2: Wasn't for people like us, people like Fox fifty nine,
- 5:11Speaker 2: people out in the community hearing the stories from us,
- 5:15Speaker 2: reading these stories and then demanding something we've done about.
- 5:18Speaker 1: It, we don't think you would have prosecuted at all.
- 5:23Speaker 1: It's all politics.
- 5:25Speaker 2: To notice when you don't prosecute, it's all politics. No
- 5:31Speaker 2: part of this is a problem with your politics.
- 5:37Speaker 1: That's bold. That's also bs. You know it, sir, You
- 5:44Speaker 1: are fully aware of that.
- 5:47Speaker 2: As a matter of policy, what who's your see is
- 5:51Speaker 2: you don't want to and it's ideological and that harms Indianapolis.
- 5:59Speaker 2: But don't you dare, don't you dare take credit for
- 6:05Speaker 2: a number going down. There is nothing that you have done.
- 6:08Speaker 1: That could show that you have a place to take credit.
- 6:12Speaker 2: You want to show your work well, five microphones and
- 6:16Speaker 2: no waiting, sir. Thank you Ryan Heddrick for going to
- 6:19Speaker 2: get the story.
