- 0:28SPEAKER_03: Oh Brian Duncan.
- 0:31SPEAKER_03: Alrighty, then.
- 0:35SPEAKER_06: Back again.
- 0:36SPEAKER_06: Come on, Nintendo back.
- 0:38SPEAKER_06: Tell your friends.
- 0:41SPEAKER_06: Hey man.
- 0:42SPEAKER_06: What's that, dude?
- 0:43SPEAKER_06: Ah, you know.
- 0:44SPEAKER_11: It's been busy.
- 0:46SPEAKER_11: Been busy.
- 0:47SPEAKER_06: Yeah, you've been traveling.
- 0:50SPEAKER_11: Well, yeah.
- 0:50SPEAKER_11: Well, just the one the one day, but it was uh it was a busy weekend last weekend.
- 0:55SPEAKER_11: Uh my son, Jude graduated from law school, so he went to the graduation.
- 1:00SPEAKER_11: That was about uh almost a six-hour drive.
- 1:03SPEAKER_06: And we had I thought you were gonna say six hour graduation.
- 1:07SPEAKER_11: No, actually it was I would have been like actually it was and and we didn't know what to expect.
- 1:11SPEAKER_11: Jude didn't know what to expect.
- 1:13SPEAKER_11: Because I think there was 170 or something like that in the class.
- 1:18SPEAKER_11: That's not bad.
- 1:19SPEAKER_11: Maybe it was 200, I don't know.
- 1:21SPEAKER_11: Uh so we expected it to be at least two hours.
- 1:24SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 1:25SPEAKER_11: It was less than an hour and a half.
- 1:26SPEAKER_11: That's not bad.
- 1:27SPEAKER_11: So no, it was pretty good.
- 1:28SPEAKER_11: Um, so yeah, he graduated from law school on Friday, so we drove to New Hampshire, stayed in a hotel, and came back Saturday morning in order to get to Eli's Prom parade or whatever they do.
- 1:41SPEAKER_11: That's a tradition that they do with the vehicles and and stuff like that.
- 1:46SPEAKER_11: So so we made it and and then uh that was busy.
- 1:51SPEAKER_11: I was tired Saturday nights, and then Sunday I went to mow my lawn in the afternoon, got my tractor out, got about half the backyard done, and then it just kind of shook, and I was like, Oh, what's going on there?
- 2:04SPEAKER_11: And stalled.
- 2:06SPEAKER_11: So I uh I said, Well, I must be out of gas.
- 2:09SPEAKER_11: So I put some gas in, it filled it right to the top.
- 2:12SPEAKER_11: And it would be it you know how you can you can turn it over, but it doesn't grab like you know, it doesn't like inject the whatever.
- 2:21SPEAKER_11: So it's like right.
- 2:25SPEAKER_11: I was like, what's going on?
- 2:26SPEAKER_11: So I don't know anything about anything.
- 2:29SPEAKER_11: Uh I open up the thing and I see there's oil on the tire.
- 2:34SPEAKER_11: Oh, that's not good.
- 2:35SPEAKER_11: And I was like, oh no, that that can't be good.
- 2:38SPEAKER_11: So I went over to my neighbor, who's a mechanic, and I said, uh, you need to take a look at that?
- 2:43SPEAKER_11: I don't know what's going on.
- 2:44SPEAKER_11: He said, Yeah.
- 2:44SPEAKER_11: Uh after the NASCAR race, I'll be over.
- 2:48SPEAKER_11: Priorities.
- 2:49SPEAKER_11: Right, sure.
- 2:50SPEAKER_11: I said, Okay, I appreciate it.
- 2:51SPEAKER_11: So he came knocking on my door and he's like, Well, I know who's gonna be mowing your lawn uh this summer.
- 2:57SPEAKER_11: Finn.
- 2:59SPEAKER_11: I said, Why, why, why?
- 3:01SPEAKER_11: He said, Did you look in that?
- 3:02SPEAKER_11: I said, Well, I saw all the oil.
- 3:03SPEAKER_11: He says, So you didn't see the giant hole in the motor?
- 3:07SPEAKER_11: Oh, the ch the hole, the chassis, like the the metal.
- 3:10SPEAKER_11: There's a it blew a hole through the motor.
- 3:13SPEAKER_11: Wow.
- 3:14SPEAKER_11: I don't know why.
- 3:16SPEAKER_11: Uh but there's that there's a gaping hole in so my my tractor is shot.
- 3:21SPEAKER_11: I literally.
- 3:23SPEAKER_11: Yeah, literally.
- 3:24SPEAKER_11: Wow.
- 3:24SPEAKER_11: So he's like, you know, you gotta get a new mower or see if Finn can do it for a discount.
- 3:30SPEAKER_11: You know, uh a motor.
- 3:32SPEAKER_11: He says, I think you can get a motor for that.
- 3:33SPEAKER_11: I was like, I'm not gonna put a new motor in that.
- 3:35SPEAKER_06: Uh I might as well just buy a new one.
- 3:37SPEAKER_11: Yeah, so so that happened on on Sunday.
- 3:40SPEAKER_11: Um, and then back to school yesterday.
- 3:43SPEAKER_11: So I mean, it was a it was a hectic, busy weekend, but uh it was good.
- 3:47SPEAKER_11: It was all good stuff.
- 3:49SPEAKER_11: Yeah, yeah.
- 3:50SPEAKER_11: So uh let's see, today is kind of a special day.
- 3:54SPEAKER_11: Do you want to get this?
- 3:54SPEAKER_11: Let's get this away out of the way now, if we can.
- 3:57SPEAKER_11: Uh it is a special day.
- 3:58SPEAKER_11: It is a special day.
- 3:59SPEAKER_11: I don't know what my firstborn is doing right now, but it happens to be She's partying her butt off.
- 4:08SPEAKER_11: It happens to be her birthday.
- 4:11SPEAKER_11: Uh 26 years ago today.
- 4:13SPEAKER_11: I became a dad.
- 4:15SPEAKER_11: I know.
- 4:15SPEAKER_11: It's crazy.
- 4:16SPEAKER_11: It doesn't seem like it's been that long.
- 4:17SPEAKER_11: Uh let's just see if this if this will work here.
- 4:21SPEAKER_11: Because I'm gonna do a FaceTime call.
- 4:26SPEAKER_11: So loud.
- 4:26SPEAKER_11: That's so loud.
- 4:28SPEAKER_11: Turn it down a little bit.
- 4:29SPEAKER_11: Maybe I'll turn it down.
- 4:30SPEAKER_11: Calling Starship Enterprise.
- 4:32SPEAKER_11: Let's see if she answers.
- 4:34SPEAKER_11: Um, I know that they took her out to lunch.
- 4:42SPEAKER_11: I know that all her friends.
- 4:44SPEAKER_11: She's got a great group of friends.
- 4:45SPEAKER_11: They're probably still out to lunch down there, down there in Ohio.
- 4:48SPEAKER_11: And uh she probably uh they're probably taking her out to dinner too.
- 4:53SPEAKER_11: I don't know.
- 4:54SPEAKER_11: Why not?
- 4:54SPEAKER_11: Because it is a oh, she's unavailable.
- 4:58SPEAKER_11: Oh Olivia is unavailable.
- 5:00SPEAKER_11: Call again.
- 5:01SPEAKER_11: No, we'll uh we'll just see if she calls back.
- 5:03SPEAKER_11: Yeah, we'll let it go.
- 5:05SPEAKER_11: Um today.
- 5:09SPEAKER_11: Uh I remember I can't really say I was gonna embarrass her, but I won't.
- 5:15SPEAKER_11: Um there were there's certain things that my daughter said that we wrote down in a book.
- 5:19SPEAKER_06: Oh yeah.
- 5:20SPEAKER_11: Um that were funny uh when she was really little.
- 5:24SPEAKER_11: And one of them was uh what did she say?
- 5:29SPEAKER_11: The taillights on a car were the uh see now I'm gonna forget.
- 5:36SPEAKER_11: Were the poop lights?
- 5:38SPEAKER_11: Or no, were the I don't know.
- 5:41SPEAKER_11: She oh, and then uh poop pusher was the plunger.
- 5:44SPEAKER_11: The poop pusher.
- 5:45SPEAKER_03: Makes sense.
- 5:46SPEAKER_11: Uh butt lights.
- 5:47SPEAKER_11: It was the butt lights, it was the poop lights, it was the butt lights were the taillights, the butt lights of the car.
- 5:51SPEAKER_11: Um I know that we took her out to Slopes restaurant one time, just her mother and I and her, and she wanted a chocolate milk, and so we got her chocolate milk, and we're drinking, you know, just waiting for our food, and and she just got incredibly hyper.
- 6:10SPEAKER_11: Picture Olivia.
- 6:11SPEAKER_11: She's just very hyper, and it was because of the chocolate milk.
- 6:15SPEAKER_11: That makes sense.
- 6:16SPEAKER_11: And uh I just remember her going, she's really delicious.
- 6:19SPEAKER_11: I'm the chocolate girl.
- 6:20SPEAKER_11: I'm the chocolate girl.
- 6:22SPEAKER_11: I'm the chocolate girl.
- 6:23SPEAKER_11: Uh I will never forget that.
- 6:25SPEAKER_11: Anyway, uh that's funny.
- 6:26SPEAKER_11: So happy birthday to Olivia.
- 6:28SPEAKER_06: I got a picture somewhere in my pile of pictures of you holding her.
- 6:31SPEAKER_06: Me holding her because she was like a day old.
- 6:33SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 6:34SPEAKER_06: So I I gotta find that sometime.
- 6:36SPEAKER_11: Um as you know, probably she's out in Ohio now.
- 6:40SPEAKER_11: So uh we hope that she's um celebrating in fine fashion.
- 6:45SPEAKER_06: Yes.
- 6:46SPEAKER_11: Um we haven't we didn't send a present.
- 6:48SPEAKER_11: Um we're gonna we're gonna see her soon, I think.
- 6:52SPEAKER_11: So um I don't think my son listens to this podcast.
- 6:57SPEAKER_11: I think she's coming up for his graduation.
- 6:58SPEAKER_11: Pretty sure she is.
- 6:59SPEAKER_03: Oh, well, that makes sense.
- 7:00SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 7:01SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 7:01SPEAKER_11: So, but I don't think he's expecting her to, so I think that's yeah.
- 7:05SPEAKER_06: Well, that'll be a nice surprise.
- 7:07SPEAKER_11: It will be, yeah.
- 7:07SPEAKER_11: It will be.
- 7:08SPEAKER_11: So uh yeah, happy birthday, Olivia, from the O'Brien and Doug podcast.
- 7:12SPEAKER_05: Happy birthday.
- 7:13SPEAKER_11: Dad and Uncle Doug.
- 7:15SPEAKER_11: Um happy hearthday.
- 7:17SPEAKER_11: We are in graduation season.
- 7:19SPEAKER_11: Uh my son graduates high school on June 5th.
- 7:22SPEAKER_11: Yep.
- 7:23SPEAKER_11: Uh, and uh I wanted to bring this up because uh well, I like to I like to have uh our friend Jeff Caryani as part of the podcast.
- 7:32SPEAKER_11: I I like talking about him because he likes to listen to us.
- 7:35SPEAKER_11: And it's he's it's very this podcast is very important to Jeff.
- 7:40SPEAKER_11: Um because, as he says, it's like he's in the same room with us, like we used to just hang out.
- 7:46SPEAKER_06: Yeah, it's like the old days.
- 7:47SPEAKER_11: It is like the old days.
- 7:48SPEAKER_06: And we also just sit around in the in you know the living room and just just shoot the breeze for hours.
- 7:53SPEAKER_11: Exactly.
- 7:54SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 7:54SPEAKER_11: Um so the only reason I bring this up is because he sent uh a link.
- 7:58SPEAKER_11: He sends us music.
- 7:59SPEAKER_11: Sometimes we poop on it, um, and sometimes we don't.
- 8:02SPEAKER_11: Um but he sent this link from Eric Church.
- 8:05SPEAKER_11: And I I think I said in the text, I'm not a huge fan of Eric Church's music.
- 8:10SPEAKER_11: I mean, I like some of it.
- 8:11SPEAKER_11: My mom likes it.
- 8:12SPEAKER_11: I know your mom is like really loves.
- 8:13SPEAKER_11: I don't get it.
- 8:15SPEAKER_11: Um and I'm not saying he's not great at what he does.
- 8:20SPEAKER_11: Uh I I think he's really great at what he does.
- 8:23SPEAKER_11: He's a great songwriter.
- 8:24SPEAKER_06: Is that it?
- 8:25SPEAKER_11: Uh yeah.
- 8:26SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 8:26SPEAKER_11: He's a great songwriter.
- 8:28SPEAKER_11: Uh uh, but he's even even a better person.
- 8:32SPEAKER_11: That's I think that's what I said in the link or in the thread.
- 8:35SPEAKER_11: Because I mean he's he does stuff without um without looking for um acclaim or anything.
- 8:43SPEAKER_11: I mean he helped he helped a bunch of people in North Carolina after the flood.
- 8:47SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 8:48SPEAKER_11: And didn't didn't want anybody to know that he helped.
- 8:51SPEAKER_11: Uh, but he like he put people in houses.
- 8:54SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 8:54SPEAKER_11: Uh and and he does a lot of work like that.
- 8:56SPEAKER_11: And I th I think he's a great human being.
- 8:58SPEAKER_11: Um, and I don't dislike his music.
- 9:00SPEAKER_11: I'm just not a it's not my thing.
- 9:02SPEAKER_11: Sure.
- 9:03SPEAKER_11: You know?
- 9:03SPEAKER_11: Uh which is okay.
- 9:04SPEAKER_11: I mean everybody's got their thing.
- 9:06SPEAKER_11: But he is a great person, and the reason I say this is because he did a commencement speech.
- 9:10SPEAKER_11: I don't even remember what what uh college it was at.
- 9:12SPEAKER_11: Did do you did you read that?
- 9:14SPEAKER_11: No, I don't um I didn't.
- 9:15SPEAKER_11: I haven't even watched the clip, so I don't even know.
- 9:17SPEAKER_11: Um it's uh uh UNC, Chapel Hill.
- 9:21SPEAKER_11: So it is North Carolina, where he's where he's from.
- 9:23SPEAKER_11: So the only reason I wanted to play this is because I thought it was kind of genius.
- 9:27SPEAKER_11: Um the way he and I'm only I'm only gonna play it's a 17-minute speech.
- 9:32SPEAKER_11: I'm only gonna play like the first couple minutes or a piece of the first couple minutes because uh the way he kind of um well it's uh uh metaphor really um for life.
- 9:46SPEAKER_11: The the the guitar strings are a metaphor for life.
- 9:50SPEAKER_11: So I want to let me see if I can get this up here.
- 9:53SPEAKER_11: I'll just play a piece of this.
- 9:55SPEAKER_11: And this is going viral too.
- 9:56SPEAKER_11: I mean, a lot of people are talking about this.
- 9:58SPEAKER_11: So let's do this.
- 10:01SPEAKER_11: Maybe maybe.
- 10:03SPEAKER_11: Oh, I have to I think I have to click on YouTube.
- 10:05SPEAKER_11: Hold on.
- 10:09SPEAKER_01: If you'll indulge me, there we go.
- 10:11SPEAKER_01: I want to start with a sound.
- 10:14SPEAKER_01: You know this sound, it's a guitar that's out of tune, something that almost gets there, that tries, but doesn't.
- 10:22SPEAKER_01: And some ancient, honest part of your brain knows it immediately.
- 10:25SPEAKER_01: You don't need training to hear it, you just know.
- 10:29SPEAKER_01: That sound is the sound of something beautiful that has not been that has not been tended to.
- 10:38SPEAKER_01: Six strings.
- 10:40SPEAKER_01: When all six are in tune, the chords they make can stop a conversation cold.
- 10:45SPEAKER_01: Carry a broken person through the worst night of their life, or make a room full of strangers feel for three minutes, like they've known each other forever.
- 10:54SPEAKER_01: But if even one is off, the whole chord unravels.
- 10:57SPEAKER_01: Not gradually, not politely, the moment you strike it, you know.
- 11:06SPEAKER_01: I believe your life runs on this principle.
- 11:09SPEAKER_01: And I'm gonna break it down for you right now and tell you about your strings, okay?
- 11:13SPEAKER_01: String one, the low E, that is your foundation.
- 11:17SPEAKER_01: The low E is the thickest string, it is the heaviest.
- 11:21SPEAKER_01: Every chord a guitar can make rests on this string being in tune.
- 11:27SPEAKER_01: Your faith is the low E of your life.
- 11:30SPEAKER_01: The thing that sits at the very bottom of you, your belief about what this life is for, what you owe, what holds the universe together when science reaches the edge of its own explanation and strokes.
- 11:46SPEAKER_01: The people who tend to their faith in ordinary seasons do not come undone in extraordinary ones.
- 11:54SPEAKER_01: They still hurt, they still sit in hospital waiting rooms asking unanswerable questions at three in the morning, but they have a foundation to return to.
- 12:05SPEAKER_01: The world will try to untune this string through busyness, through slow accumulation of a full schedule, a full inbox, a full life.
- 12:16SPEAKER_01: Listen to me.
- 12:18SPEAKER_01: Tend to your faith, not just when you're broken, but when you're whole.
- 12:29SPEAKER_01: String two is family.
- 12:31SPEAKER_01: Okay?
- 12:32SPEAKER_01: Look out at these bleachers, look around.
- 12:34SPEAKER_01: Somewhere in that crowd is someone who has loved you longer than you've been easy to love.
- 12:43SPEAKER_01: It's true.
- 12:45SPEAKER_01: Someone who saw you at your actual worst, not your public facing worst, and didn't leave you.
- 12:52SPEAKER_01: Someone who worked a job they didn't love to put a book in your hands you sometimes didn't open.
- 12:58SPEAKER_01: I know this is really long, but it's good.
- 12:59SPEAKER_01: Someone who sat alone in a quiet house and cried the weekend you moved into dorms and wondered, have I done enough?
- 13:08SPEAKER_01: That is family.
- 13:09SPEAKER_01: And the A string is where the music starts to get warm.
- 13:16SPEAKER_01: The guitars actually had a tune, but whatever.
- 13:18SPEAKER_01: A little bit, yeah.
- 13:19SPEAKER_01: It's richness.
- 13:21SPEAKER_01: It's the string that makes you feel like you're not alone in a room.
- 13:25SPEAKER_01: I want to warn you about something.
- 13:27SPEAKER_01: You're about to get busy in ways that feel important, and many are.
- 13:32SPEAKER_01: Professionally ambitious, creatively alive, building the life you've been pointed toward for four years, and family, because they love you with the grace you will spend most of your life trying to deserve, will rarely demand your time.
- 13:46SPEAKER_01: They'll tell you they understand, and they'll mean it.
- 13:49SPEAKER_01: Do not take them up on it.
- 13:52SPEAKER_01: Call your people.
- 13:53SPEAKER_01: Not when there's news, not when there's nothing.
- 13:56SPEAKER_01: Show up when it costs you something.
- 13:58SPEAKER_01: Let them see you when things are hard.
- 14:01SPEAKER_01: The A string is not a holiday string, it's an everyday string.
- 14:06SPEAKER_01: Protect it.
- 14:09SPEAKER_11: Alright, I'm gonna I'll stop there because I I forgot how long it was.
- 14:14SPEAKER_11: Um because that was about four minutes of it.
- 14:18SPEAKER_11: Uh, and he's only on the A string.
- 14:19SPEAKER_11: So I'm gonna stop there.
- 14:20SPEAKER_11: And I'm gonna say, look that up on on YouTube because it's pretty great uh the way he the way he uh pieces it all together.
- 14:28SPEAKER_11: It's uh Eric Church commencement speech at UNC Chapel Hill uh 2026.
- 14:33SPEAKER_11: Uh check it out because I think uh I think you'll enjoy it.
- 14:37SPEAKER_11: It's um it's pretty deep, pretty uh heady stuff, but it's good.
- 14:42SPEAKER_11: Cool.
- 14:43SPEAKER_11: Yay! Yay! What else is going on?
- 14:45SPEAKER_11: Anything I just saw.
- 14:53SPEAKER_11: Oh, I got the mouse.
- 14:54SPEAKER_11: Oh, did you?
- 14:55SPEAKER_11: I got the mouse.
- 14:55SPEAKER_11: Oh, good.
- 14:56SPEAKER_11: Yep.
- 14:56SPEAKER_11: Little jerk.
- 14:57SPEAKER_11: Little jerk.
- 14:58SPEAKER_11: I put the trap out as soon as you left and got him the next day.
- 15:00SPEAKER_06: Nice.
- 15:01SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 15:01SPEAKER_06: He was like, hey, got it over on those guys gonna snap.
- 15:05SPEAKER_06: Now your neck's broke.
- 15:07SPEAKER_11: Um take that punk.
- 15:09SPEAKER_11: We do have I have some new music to hear today.
- 15:12SPEAKER_11: Um I have uh June music releases.
- 15:16SPEAKER_11: So we'll do that first.
- 15:17SPEAKER_11: We'll do the releases first.
- 15:19SPEAKER_11: Um, but I also found I saw Oh, did you look up those?
- 15:23SPEAKER_06: Did you watch those videos I told you about with uh Rick Beato?
- 15:26SPEAKER_11: I didn't.
- 15:27SPEAKER_11: I didn't have a chance.
- 15:28SPEAKER_11: I want to.
- 15:29SPEAKER_06: He he's on our he's on our freak.
- 15:31SPEAKER_11: He is yes, good.
- 15:32SPEAKER_11: Yes.
- 15:32SPEAKER_06: You're talking about the uh the songwriters.
- 15:35SPEAKER_06: The songwriter.
- 15:36SPEAKER_06: Terrible list.
- 15:37SPEAKER_06: It's so stupid.
- 15:38SPEAKER_06: Yeah, he hates it too.
- 15:39SPEAKER_06: So stupid.
- 15:39SPEAKER_06: Yeah, we we were right, by the way.
- 15:41SPEAKER_06: What?
- 15:41SPEAKER_06: Like those people, yeah, they're not musicians, they're all Ivy League, most of them are Ivy League producers or whatever.
- 15:47SPEAKER_06: No, they're journalists.
- 15:49SPEAKER_11: Oh, the people that that picked the list?
- 15:51SPEAKER_11: Most of them, yeah.
- 15:52SPEAKER_11: Oh my word.
- 15:53SPEAKER_06: There were he shows clips of them on a podcast, and somebody commented on uh how terrible this list was because some you know, like Billy Joel, Jackson Brown weren't included.
- 16:03SPEAKER_06: And he's like, that's like not adding Eddie Van Halen or Jimi Hendrix to the guitar list.
- 16:09SPEAKER_06: Yes.
- 16:10SPEAKER_06: And this guy, like, craps all over this guy, one of the podcast people that made this list.
- 16:17SPEAKER_06: Yeah, craps all over this guy, like oh, you know, con very condescending, like I'm smarter than you because I went to Yale or Screw you.
- 16:25SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I I was like I was like, this guy's a dick.

- 24:10SPEAKER_11: Cursum Perficio.
- 24:11SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 24:12SPEAKER_11: Uh and Anthrax is another new one that we're gonna hear today.
- 24:15SPEAKER_03: Nice.
- 24:16SPEAKER_11: Um we s we heard the new uh Rolling Stones.
- 24:19SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 24:19SPEAKER_11: Right in the show.
- 24:20SPEAKER_11: We liked it.
- 24:20SPEAKER_11: We did.
- 24:21SPEAKER_11: It was it was good.
- 24:22SPEAKER_11: That that song particularly, yeah.
- 24:23SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 24:24SPEAKER_11: Uh okay, so so we just since we're talking about new music, let's jump to those two new songs that we have.
- 24:30SPEAKER_11: Uh so the new one from Deep Purple is from their uh album Splat, which as we said comes out this summer sometime.
- 24:37SPEAKER_11: Um the song that they released, the first single, is called Arrogant Boy.
- 24:42SPEAKER_11: Now, this is also obviously featuring um uh Simon McBride, one of my favorite guitar players.
- 24:52SPEAKER_11: It's an Irish guitar player, uh, on guitar.
- 24:55SPEAKER_11: He replaced um um holy cow.
- 25:01SPEAKER_11: He replaced who was the guitar player for Deep Purple that was really oh, Morse, Steve Morse.
- 25:08SPEAKER_11: Steve Morse was was a guitar player for Deep Purple for many, many years, decades, and um his wife got sick.
- 25:17SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 25:17SPEAKER_11: His wife got sick with cancer, so he got done with Deep Purple to take care of his wife, and I believe his wife eventually passed.
- 25:23SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 25:24SPEAKER_11: And so he's back out doing Steve Morse stuff.
- 25:27SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 25:28SPEAKER_11: Meanwhile, Deep Purple had had hired Simon McBride, so they're sticking with Simon McBride, and it's okay with Steve Morse.
- 25:34SPEAKER_11: He's like, I'm doing my own thing now, it's it's great.
- 25:36SPEAKER_11: I'm sure he's okay with it.
- 25:37SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 25:37SPEAKER_11: Uh Simon McBride is an amazing guitar player.
- 25:40SPEAKER_11: Uh so here is uh Arrogant Boy, or just a piece of it from Deep Purple.
- 27:04SPEAKER_11: Okay, I I just want to shed some light on this because I just looked it up.
- 27:07SPEAKER_11: I mean, it sounds like deep purple.
- 27:09SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 27:09SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 27:10SPEAKER_11: Um so if you are a deep purple fan, you're gonna love it.
- 27:16SPEAKER_11: I thought there wasn't a lot of life in in like the lead singer and the drummer.
- 27:24SPEAKER_11: The bass player and the lead singer are are both 80.
- 27:27SPEAKER_11: Yeah, and the drummer is 77.
- 27:31SPEAKER_11: Just a kid.
- 27:32SPEAKER_11: They still sound fantastic, yeah.
- 27:43SPEAKER_11: I would buy it just for Simon McBride.
- 27:47SPEAKER_11: But that's that's the guitar player in me, anyway.
- 27:50SPEAKER_11: So that's I mean, it's if you like Deep Purple, yeah, it's it's pretty good.
- 27:54SPEAKER_11: Yeah, yeah.
- 27:54SPEAKER_11: The album is called Splat, and uh that particular tune is called Arrogant Boy.
- 28:02SPEAKER_11: And now the new album from uh Anthrax, Cursum Perficio, uh is what it's called.
- 28:10SPEAKER_11: It's their 12th album.
- 28:12SPEAKER_11: Uh, the first album by the Big Four since 2016's For All Kings.
- 28:17SPEAKER_11: Do you have For All Kings?
- 28:18SPEAKER_11: Yep.
- 28:19SPEAKER_11: It's pretty good.
- 28:21SPEAKER_11: And the new album will be out September 18th on Mega Force Records.
- 28:26SPEAKER_11: Uh of course it'll be Mega Force.
- 28:28SPEAKER_11: And I do know that I heard um Scott Ian talking about the album.
- 28:34SPEAKER_11: And well, it's what you're gonna say when you have a new album.
- 28:38SPEAKER_11: It's our best one.
- 28:39SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 28:40SPEAKER_11: You know, it's we've we've finally got it dialed in.
- 28:44SPEAKER_11: Yeah, it's only been 40 some years.
- 28:48SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 28:48SPEAKER_11: Good guy, good going, guys.
- 28:49SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 28:50SPEAKER_11: So uh I do like the title of this one.
- 28:52SPEAKER_11: It's called It's for the Kids.
- 28:53SPEAKER_06: Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 28:54SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 28:54SPEAKER_11: Have you heard it?
- 28:55SPEAKER_11: No.
- 28:55SPEAKER_11: Okay.
- 28:56SPEAKER_11: So this is a new anthrax, It's for the kids.
- 28:59SPEAKER_11: Let's get a piece of it.
- 29:57SPEAKER_06: Wait a minute.
- 29:59SPEAKER_06: Are there five of them now?
- 30:04SPEAKER_11: Well, who's on drums?
- 30:05SPEAKER_11: Is that Charlie Benante?
- 30:06SPEAKER_06: Charlie Benante and Frank Bello.
- 30:08SPEAKER_06: It's got Scott Ian and Joey Belladonna, and there's some guy in the back playing guitar.
- 30:14SPEAKER_11: Another guitar player.
- 30:15SPEAKER_06: Yeah, who's that?
- 30:16SPEAKER_11: Well, they've always had two guitar players, haven't they?
- 30:18SPEAKER_06: No, it's ever since uh Danny Spitz left has just been Scott.
- 30:22SPEAKER_11: Oh.
- 30:22SPEAKER_06: So who's that guy?
- 30:24SPEAKER_11: Well, let's find out.
- 30:27SPEAKER_11: Maybe it's in this it's in the uh article.
- 30:31SPEAKER_11: Uh maybe it's not.
- 30:35SPEAKER_06: Song is great though.
- 30:36SPEAKER_11: I like the song.
- 30:37SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 30:39SPEAKER_06: I mean the fact that Charlie is still playing like he is after having purple tunnel surgery on both hands.
- 30:47SPEAKER_06: Well, that that speaks volumes.
- 30:50SPEAKER_11: Listen, they're older than we are.
- 30:51SPEAKER_11: Yeah, they are.
- 30:52SPEAKER_11: And the fact that like they're bouncing around like that.
- 30:55SPEAKER_11: Scotty and and they're playing the way they're playing.
- 30:58SPEAKER_11: Much respect.
- 31:00SPEAKER_11: Well that they sound great.
- 31:01SPEAKER_06: Well, I mean, Slayer's out of the game now.
- 31:03SPEAKER_06: Yeah, Megadeth's on their way out.
- 31:06SPEAKER_06: So it's it's really just Metallica and Anthrax still going.
- 31:09SPEAKER_06: Right.
- 31:10SPEAKER_11: So let's find out who that other guitar player is.
- 31:15SPEAKER_06: Yeah, who is that guy?
- 31:16SPEAKER_11: Uh let's see.
- 31:29SPEAKER_11: All right, we have Joey Belladonna on vocals, Scotty and on rhythm guitar, John Donates on lead guitar.
- 31:37SPEAKER_11: Who's that?
- 31:38SPEAKER_11: I don't know.
- 31:39SPEAKER_11: Frank Bello and Charlie Bonate.
- 31:42SPEAKER_11: John Donates.
- 31:44SPEAKER_11: Let's see.
- 31:45SPEAKER_11: Has he got his own link there?
- 31:47SPEAKER_02: No, but I can do I can 47 years old.
- 31:56SPEAKER_11: Oh, he was in Shadowsfall.
- 31:59SPEAKER_11: Okay, I've heard of them.
- 32:00SPEAKER_11: Uh is an American guitarist best known as the league guitarist for thrash metal band anthrax since 2014.
- 32:08SPEAKER_11: What?
- 32:09SPEAKER_10: He's been in the band since 2014.
- 32:11SPEAKER_10: Did they Hugh McDonald him?
- 32:14SPEAKER_10: Probably.
- 32:15SPEAKER_05: What in the ever-loving mother effing thing?
- 32:20SPEAKER_05: Are you kidding me?
- 32:24SPEAKER_11: Yeah, probably.
- 32:26SPEAKER_05: Wow!
- 32:27SPEAKER_11: And what what Doug means by Hugh McDonald him is Bon Jovi.
- 32:30SPEAKER_11: Uh, when when Alec John Sutch was fired, um they they hired Hugh McDonald, who was close to the band, to play bass, but they kept him out of all the photographs.
- 32:41SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 32:41SPEAKER_11: Like he wasn't an official member.
- 32:44SPEAKER_11: And that's probably what they did with this John Donet.
- 32:47SPEAKER_05: Wow.
- 32:49SPEAKER_11: 2014.
- 32:50SPEAKER_06: I mean, that's 12 years.
- 32:52SPEAKER_06: 12 years, man.
- 32:52SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 32:53SPEAKER_06: Well, I remember it because when they did um XL, their 40th anniversary greatest hit, there's a there's a they did a video of the they of them doing um Bring the Noise.
- 33:10SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 33:12SPEAKER_06: And it's it's Chuck D.
- 33:14SPEAKER_06: Right.
- 33:14SPEAKER_06: With no flavor flav.
- 33:16SPEAKER_06: And it's Scott and it's Joey, and it's Charlie, and it's Frank.
- 33:21SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 33:22SPEAKER_06: No other guy.
- 33:23SPEAKER_11: No other guy.
- 33:24SPEAKER_06: So that's why I was like, so I just assumed, okay, well, you know, Scott's still doing all the guitar work.
- 33:29SPEAKER_06: Guitar work on him.
- 33:30SPEAKER_06: So I I didn't even it didn't even dawn on me.
- 33:33SPEAKER_11: This is the first album since 2016's For All Kings.
- 33:36SPEAKER_11: So if John Donet was in the band since 2014, he's only been on two albums.
- 33:41SPEAKER_11: Yes.
- 33:41SPEAKER_11: This one and then and that one.
- 33:44SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 33:44SPEAKER_06: So well, he probably did.
- 33:46SPEAKER_06: I wonder if he did the work on the uh XL album.
- 33:48SPEAKER_11: He well he must have.
- 33:49SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 33:50SPEAKER_11: Yeah, he must have.
- 33:50SPEAKER_06: Because they remastered uh all those all those songs.
- 33:54SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 33:54SPEAKER_11: So yeah, well, interesting.
- 33:56SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 33:56SPEAKER_11: But I like that.
- 33:57SPEAKER_11: The song is cool.
- 33:58SPEAKER_11: Song is great.
- 33:58SPEAKER_06: Yeah, it's freaking great.
- 34:00SPEAKER_06: I remember, I mean, they're they're great live.
- 34:02SPEAKER_06: Yes.
- 34:03SPEAKER_06: They really are great live.
- 34:04SPEAKER_06: Because when I saw them, man, they were just they just killed it.
- 34:07SPEAKER_06: Right.
- 34:07SPEAKER_06: Just kill it.
- 34:08SPEAKER_06: And they're and they're super nice guys and they're super funny.

- 45:42SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 45:43SPEAKER_11: They had to learn.
- 45:44SPEAKER_11: And then they taught them the solos so that they could play them, yeah.
- 45:47SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 45:47SPEAKER_11: Which kind of blew my mind, actually.
- 45:49SPEAKER_11: Yeah, it was really wild.

- 48:29SPEAKER_11: In my dreams from Dawkins.
- 48:30SPEAKER_11: Oh yeah.
- 48:31SPEAKER_06: Dude, that that is a killer solo.

- 48:34SPEAKER_11: Can we play that one?
- 48:35SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 48:35SPEAKER_06: I love that solo.
- 48:37SPEAKER_06: Um What in the frick is Elmo on here?

- 49:44SPEAKER_06: I mean, all his guitars are like custom made.
- 49:48SPEAKER_11: Uh not to go off on a tangent, but we're talking about Dawkins and the and the next song here is 17 from uh Winger.

- 50:38SPEAKER_11: And he loves the just the George Lynch riffs and you know and everything.
- 50:43SPEAKER_11: And so he got in Dawkins and uh and he said, and all of a sudden they're they're like strumming erased slate, blah blah blah blah blah.
- 50:54SPEAKER_11: And he's telling the story that was this the very melodic and it's like, no, that's not Dawkins.
- 51:00SPEAKER_11: What?
- 51:01SPEAKER_11: He says What am I doing?
- 51:02SPEAKER_11: He said, let me have this overnight.
- 51:03SPEAKER_11: So he took the song overnight and he made a riff.
- 51:06SPEAKER_11: And it became what a racist slate was.
- 51:08SPEAKER_11: Oh nice.
- 51:08SPEAKER_11: Yeah, so I'll show that to you.
- 51:09SPEAKER_11: It's pretty funny because Red Beach is pretty funny.
- 51:11SPEAKER_06: Oh yeah, he's a funny.
- 51:12SPEAKER_11: Anyway, so we're talking about Red Beach, and yes, one of the one of the uh greatest guitar solos uh of the uh of that era was from a uh a song that they really can't play anymore, uh 17.
- 51:25SPEAKER_11: Um well even back then it was kind of sketchy.
- 51:28SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 51:29SPEAKER_11: So let's but this guitar solo is pretty much it.
- 51:49SPEAKER_11: Let's part right here.
- 52:02SPEAKER_11: Yeah, come on.
- 52:04SPEAKER_11: Um, let's see.
- 52:05SPEAKER_11: Such a great song.
- 52:06SPEAKER_11: Uh Crying in the Rain from Watts.
- 52:08SPEAKER_11: Oh yeah.
- 52:09SPEAKER_11: Great, great solo.

- 52:12SPEAKER_11: Yes! I gotta play a I gotta play a little piece of that.
- 52:22SPEAKER_11: Alright, so that's just the beginning.
- 52:31SPEAKER_11: There we go.
- 52:32SPEAKER_11: This is amazing.
- 52:36SPEAKER_11: The fact that Extreme wasn't bigger.
- 52:38SPEAKER_11: I know back then it should have been Hugh blew my mind.
- 52:41SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 52:43SPEAKER_11: People call him the new Eddie now, these Eddie's gone.
- 52:46SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 53:19SPEAKER_11: That's just that's unbelievable.
- 53:21SPEAKER_06: Crazy.
- 53:22SPEAKER_11: Uh number two, uh, number four, Round and Round from Rat.
- 53:27SPEAKER_11: That would be Warren Di Martini.
- 53:29SPEAKER_06: It's good.
- 53:30SPEAKER_11: It's memorable.
- 53:31SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 53:31SPEAKER_11: Sweet child of mine.
- 53:32SPEAKER_11: Oh, yeah.
- 53:32SPEAKER_11: Shuts and roses.
- 53:33SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 53:34SPEAKER_11: I don't know that I consider them hairband, but whatever.
- 53:37SPEAKER_11: Uh, White Lion.
- 53:38SPEAKER_11: This was gonna be my pick.
- 53:39SPEAKER_11: Wait from White Lion.
- 53:40SPEAKER_11: Oh, yeah.
- 53:40SPEAKER_11: Uh great.
- 53:42SPEAKER_11: Such a memorable melodic solo uh from Vito Brata.
- 53:46SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 53:47SPEAKER_11: Uh the unsung guitar hero.
- 53:51SPEAKER_11: The man that disappeared.
- 53:52SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 53:53SPEAKER_11: Literally.
- 53:54SPEAKER_11: Uh let's see.
- 53:56SPEAKER_11: There it is.
- 53:57SPEAKER_11: Yep, right there.

- 54:43SPEAKER_11: Ah, yeah, great guitar solo.
- 54:46SPEAKER_11: Another Nuno, man.
- 54:47SPEAKER_11: Uh, I will play this one because Brian May from Queen says that this guitar solo is his favorite of all time.
- 54:54SPEAKER_11: I would love that.
- 54:56SPEAKER_06: I would love for the sing Syndicate to do this.
- 54:58SPEAKER_11: Not just uh not just uh his favorite Nuno solo, but his favorite guitar solo.
- 55:14SPEAKER_11: This isn't the guitar solo.
- 55:15SPEAKER_11: I just thought this part was cool.
- 56:03SPEAKER_11: I was gonna pick White Lions Way, but that wasn't number two.
- 56:06SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 56:06SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 56:07SPEAKER_11: I mean that sold it.
- 56:08SPEAKER_11: Sold it.
- 56:09SPEAKER_11: Yeah, and I can't think of uh I can't think of any others that I would add to that.
- 56:14SPEAKER_06: Not really.
- 56:15SPEAKER_06: Uh I mean if you wanted to throw some Ingve in there or something like that.
- 56:18SPEAKER_06: I mean he had some pretty epic solos.
- 56:22SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 56:23SPEAKER_06: Yeah, and I I get a I I wouldn't put Ingve on any list because it would just go to his already massive ego.
- 56:30SPEAKER_11: Yeah, you're not kidding.
- 56:33SPEAKER_11: Uh let's see.
- 56:34SPEAKER_11: I think we did that one.

- 1:02:52SPEAKER_06: I remember you by Skidrow, Sheriffs When I'm With You.
- 1:02:56SPEAKER_06: I would put Unforgiven by Metallica in there as well, at least a metal ballad.
- 1:03:00SPEAKER_06: And I think for me, I would go with Disturb's version of Sounds of Silence.
- 1:03:05SPEAKER_06: If that doesn't quite fit the genre, then I will take Bon Jovi's I'll Be There For You.
- 1:03:09SPEAKER_11: I think I might have to go Bon Jovi.
- 1:03:13SPEAKER_06: No, they're not hair metal.

- 1:07:29SPEAKER_11: It's melodic.
- 1:07:30SPEAKER_14: It's almost been like you start to rise us to my destiny.
- 1:07:40SPEAKER_14: Every time we can stop you, feel you love to die.
- 1:08:30SPEAKER_06: I mean, come on.
- 1:08:31SPEAKER_06: Yeah.

- 1:10:16SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 1:10:17SPEAKER_06: I totally forgot about that one, too.
- 1:10:18SPEAKER_06: So you brought it up.

- 1:10:59SPEAKER_06: What song do you play as you hit the gas?
- 1:11:03SPEAKER_11: So you're a stun driver.
- 1:11:04SPEAKER_06: So you're like an evil canival type.
- 1:11:06SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 1:11:07SPEAKER_11: Stunt man.
- 1:11:08SPEAKER_11: So what song are you playing?
- 1:11:10SPEAKER_11: What is your what is your stunt song?
- 1:11:11SPEAKER_11: What are you what song are you playing?
- 1:11:13SPEAKER_06: Yeah, as soon as you like take off.
- 1:11:14SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 1:11:15SPEAKER_06: Like, what is what's playing?
- 1:11:17SPEAKER_11: And I'm not gonna pick Fuel by Metallic.
- 1:11:20SPEAKER_11: Even though it would work.
- 1:11:22SPEAKER_11: That would work.
- 1:11:23SPEAKER_11: Uh I picked that for like two or three other ones, so I'm I'm not gonna pick that this time.
- 1:11:27SPEAKER_03: But it works!
- 1:11:27SPEAKER_11: It does.
- 1:11:28SPEAKER_03: It does.

- 1:13:12SPEAKER_11: Best part of the night.
- 1:13:16SPEAKER_12: Talk amongst yourselves.
- 1:13:18SPEAKER_06: Wow, look at the butt on that.
- 1:13:20SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 1:13:21SPEAKER_06: Betty works out.
- 1:13:26SPEAKER_03: Of course I did.
- 1:13:28SPEAKER_06: It's one of our most quoted movies of all time.
- 1:13:34SPEAKER_06: Did you pick already?
- 1:13:36SPEAKER_03: Wow.
- 1:13:36SPEAKER_03: I did.
- 1:13:38SPEAKER_06: I picked them already.
- 1:13:40SPEAKER_06: I have an album.
- 1:13:41SPEAKER_06: I had no idea you picked an album.
- 1:13:44SPEAKER_06: I did.
- 1:13:44SPEAKER_06: You did it so fast.
- 1:13:45SPEAKER_04: I know.
- 1:13:46SPEAKER_04: Like a ninja.
- 1:13:47SPEAKER_04: I am a ninja.
- 1:13:48SPEAKER_04: Just like that.
- 1:13:50SPEAKER_04: Europe song.
- 1:13:51SPEAKER_06: Didn't they have a song called Ninja?
- 1:13:52SPEAKER_06: Ninja.
- 1:13:53SPEAKER_06: Ninja Survive.
- 1:13:54SPEAKER_06: Yeah, that's right.
- 1:13:56SPEAKER_06: They were so weird.
- 1:13:57SPEAKER_06: It was weird.
- 1:13:57SPEAKER_06: They had a song called Cherokee, Ninja Survive.
- 1:14:00SPEAKER_06: They're from Sweden.
- 1:14:02SPEAKER_06: They're all Swedish guys.
- 1:14:04SPEAKER_06: Like the whitest guys on the planet.
- 1:14:06SPEAKER_11: I gotta tell you though, that final countdown album was pretty great.
- 1:14:09SPEAKER_11: It was a great album.
- 1:14:10SPEAKER_11: It was pretty great.
- 1:14:10SPEAKER_11: Love Cherry.
- 1:14:13SPEAKER_11: Love Chase.
- 1:14:14SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 1:14:14SPEAKER_06: That was a great album.
- 1:14:15SPEAKER_11: Yeah, great album.
- 1:14:17SPEAKER_11: Alright.
- 1:14:18SPEAKER_11: So I have an album, so um let's guessing begin.
- 1:14:21SPEAKER_06: Is it a band?
- 1:14:22SPEAKER_11: Yes.
- 1:14:23SPEAKER_06: Rock band?
- 1:14:24SPEAKER_11: Yes.
- 1:14:25SPEAKER_06: Super rock band.
- 1:14:27SPEAKER_11: What does that mean?
- 1:14:29SPEAKER_06: Couldn't think of anything else to say.
- 1:14:30SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 1:14:31SPEAKER_06: Super rock band.
- 1:14:32SPEAKER_06: Okay.
- 1:14:32SPEAKER_06: Super great.
- 1:14:34SPEAKER_06: Super mediocre.
- 1:14:35SPEAKER_11: Uh let's see.
- 1:14:38SPEAKER_11: Yes.
- 1:14:40SPEAKER_11: Super great.
- 1:14:47SPEAKER_11: I like them, but they're huge.
- 1:14:49SPEAKER_11: They're very popular.
- 1:14:58SPEAKER_11: I gotta say, I gotta say late.
- 1:15:03SPEAKER_06: Did we see them on the list of great guitar solos?
- 1:15:07SPEAKER_11: No.
- 1:15:08SPEAKER_11: Surprising.
- 1:15:09SPEAKER_06: Okay.
- 1:15:10SPEAKER_11: We did not, and we should have, I think.
- 1:15:12SPEAKER_11: Okay.
- 1:15:13SPEAKER_11: So they have like a virtual show of any.
- 1:15:15SPEAKER_11: They don't have a virtual show, no.
- 1:15:17SPEAKER_11: They have it's a it's a straight up hard rock.
- 1:15:24SPEAKER_11: In in one incarnation, yes.
- 1:16:37SPEAKER_11: I think I said tonight when we're talking that I don't necessarily consider these guys a hairman.
- 1:16:44SPEAKER_11: Guns and roses.
- 1:16:45SPEAKER_11: It is guns and roses.
- 1:16:46SPEAKER_11: Oh.
- 1:16:46SPEAKER_11: Yes.
- 1:16:47SPEAKER_11: For sure.
- 1:16:47SPEAKER_11: Yeah, they're not really they weren't.
- 1:16:49SPEAKER_11: I wouldn't consider them airbags.
- 1:16:50SPEAKER_06: Well, I I mean they are, but Well, if you watched the Welcome to the Jungle video, Axel's got the hair all teased up.
- 1:16:58SPEAKER_11: Yes.
- 1:16:58SPEAKER_06: After that he kind of went basic.
- 1:17:01SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 1:17:01SPEAKER_11: But I mean, that first one at least that was uh Okay, so here's a discussion that I wanted to have about this because I actually picked two albums.
- 1:17:10SPEAKER_06: Is it Use Your Illusion One and Joke?
- 1:17:12SPEAKER_11: It is.
- 1:17:13SPEAKER_11: Aha.
- 1:17:14SPEAKER_11: Um so basically I want to know which one you like better.
- 1:17:17SPEAKER_11: So we have uh Use Your Illusion One.
- 1:17:21SPEAKER_11: Oh this was meant to be a double album.
- 1:17:23SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 1:17:24SPEAKER_11: And so they I'm I'm pretty sure they released them on the same day.
- 1:17:27SPEAKER_11: No.
- 1:17:29SPEAKER_11: I don't remember to be honest with you.
- 1:17:30SPEAKER_11: Um Use Your Illusion One, what you would know from that, um what songs you would know.
- 1:17:37SPEAKER_11: If you were if you were a casual listener to Guns N' Roses, and you listened to the radio back then, uh, you would know Live and Let Die.
- 1:17:45SPEAKER_11: Yep.
- 1:17:45SPEAKER_11: You would know Don't Cry, the original version.
- 1:17:49SPEAKER_11: You would know November Rain, which is one of those solos that I thought should have been on there.
- 1:17:52SPEAKER_11: Oh, yeah, yeah, that was a good show.
- 1:17:54SPEAKER_11: Um and that would be it on Use Your Illusion 1.
- 1:17:58SPEAKER_11: I mean the the the big G and R fan would know them all, obviously.
- 1:18:01SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 1:18:02SPEAKER_11: Um Pleasanter though.
- 1:18:06SPEAKER_11: Thank you.
- 1:18:07SPEAKER_11: Um Use Your Illusion 2, if you were a casual Guns N' Roses fan and you listened to the radio a lot back then.
- 1:18:14SPEAKER_11: Use Your Illusion 2 had Civil War.
- 1:18:17SPEAKER_11: That was a great song.
- 1:18:18SPEAKER_11: Uh Yesterdays, which was a single.
- 1:18:22SPEAKER_06: I don't really remember that.
- 1:18:23SPEAKER_11: Uh Knockin' on Heaven's Door.
- 1:18:25SPEAKER_11: Yep.
- 1:18:25SPEAKER_11: Good song.
- 1:18:26SPEAKER_11: Uh Knockoff, but You Could Be Mine, which was on the Terminator 2 soundtrack.
- 1:18:31SPEAKER_11: Yeah, that was a great song.
- 1:18:32SPEAKER_11: Uh there's another version of Don't Cry with alternate lyrics.
- 1:18:35SPEAKER_11: Yep.
- 1:18:37SPEAKER_11: So I guess my question is, well, let's let's let's play a little bit.
- 1:18:41SPEAKER_11: Okay, so I don't know that I need to play Live and Let Die.
- 1:18:46SPEAKER_11: Uh but this is this is Don't Cry.
- 1:18:51SPEAKER_11: This kind of sounded a lot like, well, this was the the Guns N' Roses sound for this era, right?
- 1:18:58SPEAKER_11: After Appetite.
- 1:18:59SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 1:19:00SPEAKER_11: Because even Civil War is very mellow.
- 1:19:04SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 1:19:04SPEAKER_11: And it builds.
- 1:19:45SPEAKER_11: It is a great song.
- 1:19:46SPEAKER_11: It is a great song.
- 1:19:47SPEAKER_06: I was I was I remember I was home on leave and I met this girl, and she was totally obsessed with this song.
- 1:19:57SPEAKER_06: This song?
- 1:19:58SPEAKER_06: Yes.
- 1:19:59SPEAKER_06: Okay.
- 1:19:59SPEAKER_06: And she made me listen to it like a billion times.
- 1:20:03SPEAKER_06: So I'm well acquainted with this song.
- 1:20:06SPEAKER_06: Do we know do I know who this was?
- 1:20:08SPEAKER_06: No.
- 1:20:08SPEAKER_06: Okay.
- 1:20:08SPEAKER_11: No.
- 1:20:09SPEAKER_11: Uh and then I'm gonna skip ahead.
- 1:20:12SPEAKER_11: And here's the reason.
- 1:20:13SPEAKER_11: I I was a casual Guns N' Roses listener.
- 1:20:16SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 1:20:16SPEAKER_11: I was the guy that paid attention to the radio song.
- 1:20:19SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 1:20:20SPEAKER_11: I have both of these albums.
- 1:20:22SPEAKER_11: I don't know any of the other songs.
- 1:20:24SPEAKER_06: They weren't like Bad Obsession.
- 1:20:25SPEAKER_06: That's why I mean it should have been one album.
- 1:20:28SPEAKER_06: I agree.
- 1:20:28SPEAKER_06: To be honest with you, because there were some great songs.
- 1:20:32SPEAKER_06: It's like uh Metallica's load and reload.
- 1:20:35SPEAKER_06: Right.
- 1:20:36SPEAKER_06: There were great songs on both of them, but the rest of them were just kind of like throwaways.
- 1:20:40SPEAKER_11: Like Bad Obsession.
- 1:20:42SPEAKER_11: I don't know what that song sounds like.
- 1:20:43SPEAKER_11: Shh.
- 1:20:43SPEAKER_11: Let me just just now we know this one.
- 1:21:07SPEAKER_11: Right?
- 1:21:07SPEAKER_11: Yep.
- 1:21:08SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 1:21:08SPEAKER_06: November eight.
- 1:21:09SPEAKER_11: This is the big nine Stephanie Seymour.
- 1:21:12SPEAKER_11: Nine-minute version.
- 1:21:14SPEAKER_11: Uh, I wanna.
- 1:21:16SPEAKER_11: My favorite part of the song, which is everybody.
- 1:21:18SPEAKER_11: That's solo.
- 1:21:21SPEAKER_11: Here's a solo.
- 1:21:23SPEAKER_11: This should have been on the list.
- 1:21:24SPEAKER_06: Oh yeah.
- 1:21:25SPEAKER_11: And that and when the strings come in, yeah.
- 1:21:27SPEAKER_11: I mean, come on, that's epic.
- 1:21:53SPEAKER_11: I want to get to that.
- 1:22:03SPEAKER_12: There we go.
- 1:22:24SPEAKER_06: Alright.
- 1:22:25SPEAKER_06: This is when Matt Storm was drumming for the correct.
- 1:22:28SPEAKER_11: Yep, it was.
- 1:22:29SPEAKER_11: Um, but I mean, like the garden, Garden of Eden, Don't Damn Me, Bad Apples, Dead Horse, Coma.
- 1:22:34SPEAKER_11: I don't know any of those songs.
- 1:22:35SPEAKER_11: No, don't have a clue.
- 1:22:37SPEAKER_11: Um jumping ahead to use your illusion to Civil War.
- 1:22:43SPEAKER_11: Such a great song.
- 1:22:47SPEAKER_00: What we've got here is failure to communicate.
- 1:22:54SPEAKER_00: Some man you just can't reach.
- 1:22:58SPEAKER_00: So you can get what we had here last week, which is the way he wants.
- 1:23:03SPEAKER_00: Well, he gets this is from Cool Hand Loop, right?
- 1:23:08SPEAKER_06: Is that what that's from here?
- 1:23:09SPEAKER_06: Well, for years I thought that was a woman.
- 1:23:11SPEAKER_06: Did you?
- 1:23:12SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 1:23:12SPEAKER_06: Until I actually saw the movie and I was like, ah! That's a dude.
- 1:23:16SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 1:23:17SPEAKER_06: It's the warden.
- 1:23:18SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 1:23:19SPEAKER_09: Look at your young men fighting.
- 1:23:22SPEAKER_09: Look at your women cry.
- 1:23:26SPEAKER_09: Look at your young men cry.
- 1:23:32SPEAKER_11: But yeah, this is a fantastic song.
- 1:23:35SPEAKER_11: Uh, and you said you'd never heard yesterday's.
- 1:23:37SPEAKER_11: Or you don't remember.
- 1:23:38SPEAKER_11: Yes.
- 1:23:39SPEAKER_11: It was it was a single.
- 1:23:40SPEAKER_11: It was only three minutes long.
- 1:23:41SPEAKER_11: Okay.
- 1:23:42SPEAKER_06: So it's I don't think it went anywhere.
- 1:23:51SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I was supposed to say it wasn't super popular.
- 1:23:55SPEAKER_13: Yesterday! There were so many things I was never told.
- 1:24:00SPEAKER_11: But I like it.
- 1:24:00SPEAKER_11: I think it's an Izzy Stradlin song, actually.
- 1:24:02SPEAKER_11: Is it?
- 1:24:03SPEAKER_11: I think so.
- 1:24:06SPEAKER_11: And then of course we have knocking on Heaven's Door.
- 1:24:09SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 1:24:09SPEAKER_06: Great version.
- 1:24:11SPEAKER_11: And my favorite song on the album is Terminator 2.
- 1:24:16SPEAKER_11: You could song.
- 1:24:20SPEAKER_11: So let me ask you.
- 1:24:22SPEAKER_11: Use your illusion one or use your illusion two?
- 1:24:28SPEAKER_06: I couldn't choose either.
- 1:24:30SPEAKER_06: Because I like songs off both of them.
- 1:24:33SPEAKER_06: Right.
- 1:24:33SPEAKER_06: So I would take those songs and put them on, you know, use your brain.
- 1:24:37SPEAKER_11: Yeah, it's too bad you couldn't have Live and Let Die, Don't Cry, November Rain, Civil War, Yesterday's, Knocking on Heaven's Door, You Could Be Mine, and I don't know, add another four or five of filler.
- 1:24:58SPEAKER_11: And have a one great album.
- 1:24:59SPEAKER_06: Yeah, you would this should have been just one album.
- 1:25:02SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I agree.
- 1:25:03SPEAKER_06: But I think they were trying to fulfill some sort of contract.
- 1:25:06SPEAKER_06: Probably.
- 1:25:07SPEAKER_11: So this is a great song.
- 1:25:16SPEAKER_11: Um so anyway, those are those are the albums that I picked.
- 1:25:20SPEAKER_11: Guns N' Roses, Use Your Illusion 1, and Use Your Illusion 2.
- 1:25:24SPEAKER_11: It's so so crazy to think that as huge as Guns N' Roses is and was, they have Appetite.
- 1:25:35SPEAKER_11: They have these two albums that were released around the same time.
- 1:25:39SPEAKER_11: Oh, don't forget the Spaghetti Incident.
- 1:25:41SPEAKER_11: Nope.
- 1:25:42SPEAKER_11: G and R Lies.
- 1:25:43SPEAKER_11: G and R Lies, yes.
- 1:25:44SPEAKER_11: That's five albums.
- 1:25:46SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 1:25:47SPEAKER_11: And this was They really, they I mean, they really Oh, and the Chinese democracy.
- 1:25:53SPEAKER_06: Nobody really counts that.
- 1:25:54SPEAKER_06: Yeah, you can't.
- 1:25:54SPEAKER_06: But I mean, they really came on strong and then they burnt out quickly.
- 1:25:58SPEAKER_11: Oh yeah.
- 1:25:58SPEAKER_06: You know what I mean?
- 1:25:59SPEAKER_06: It was and it was just it wasn't really.
- 1:26:02SPEAKER_06: It was just like it was just too much too fast.
- 1:26:05SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:26:06SPEAKER_06: And it was just personalities just like clashing and I mean, I I you know, from what I understand, Axel was not the easiest guy to get along with.
- 1:26:13SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 1:26:14SPEAKER_06: Especially once they got, you know, big.
- 1:26:17SPEAKER_06: I mean, it just all went to his head.
- 1:26:19SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 1:26:20SPEAKER_06: You know, so I mean it was like, what the frick, dude?
- 1:26:23SPEAKER_06: Have we ever done Guns of Roses?
- 1:26:25SPEAKER_06: I don't know.
- 1:26:26SPEAKER_06: I don't see him on the list.
- 1:26:32SPEAKER_11: Um, alright.
- 1:26:33SPEAKER_11: So before we before we end here, I want to try and uh and get my kid again.
- 1:26:40SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:26:41SPEAKER_11: Um just to give it the old college.
- 1:26:44SPEAKER_06: Well, I kinda I was kind of thinking she would see that you would call and call back, but maybe she's like still like she's like, ah, it's Tuesday.
- 1:26:51SPEAKER_06: They're probably recording the podcast.
- 1:26:54SPEAKER_11: I guarantee that's what it is.
- 1:26:55SPEAKER_11: That's exactly what she's doing.
- 1:26:57SPEAKER_11: Let's see if we can get her here.
- 1:27:07SPEAKER_11: And she knows too.
- 1:27:16SPEAKER_06: I literally just said that.
- 1:27:17SPEAKER_06: I was like, she's she's screening her calls because she knows we're on the podcast.
- 1:27:21SPEAKER_07: Well no, I wasn't even thinking about it.
- 1:27:25SPEAKER_06: Hey, sweetie, happy birthday.
- 1:27:27SPEAKER_07: Thanks.
- 1:27:28SPEAKER_11: So uh are you with people?
- 1:27:30SPEAKER_11: Is that what you do?
- 1:27:31SPEAKER_11: Yes.
- 1:27:32SPEAKER_11: Oh.
- 1:27:32SPEAKER_11: Hey! Hey, how's it going?
- 1:27:36SPEAKER_11: O'Brien and Doug, what up?
- 1:27:37SPEAKER_11: Hey, what's happening, Rory?
- 1:27:39SPEAKER_11: Hey, let me get a picture of Doug.
- 1:27:40SPEAKER_11: What's going on, brothers?
- 1:27:50SPEAKER_11: I figured you were uh with with people.
