- 0:12Speaker 1: Around Dodge City and in the territory on West, there
- 0:15Speaker 1: is just one way to handle the killers and the spoilers.
- 0:18Speaker 1: And that's where the US Marshal and the smell of
- 0:21Speaker 1: guns smoke. John will Spoke, starring William Conrad, The story
- 0:44Speaker 1: of the violence that moved west with young America and
- 0:47Speaker 1: the story of a man who moved with it.
- 0:50Speaker 2: I'm that man, Matt Dillon, United States Marshall, the first
- 0:54Speaker 2: man they look for and the last they want to meet.
- 0:58Speaker 2: It's a chancy job, and it makes a man watchful
- 1:02Speaker 2: and a little lonely.
- 1:10Speaker 3: All right, Letty, you mind what I say now. You
- 1:15Speaker 3: stay down on that bed. I'm looking on you in
- 1:18Speaker 3: a day or so.
- 1:21Speaker 1: He Oh, sorry, the kept you waiting out here so long, kitty,
- 1:31Speaker 1: But Letty had a lot on her mind.
- 1:35Speaker 4: That's all right, Doc. Kind of nice sitting here with
- 1:39Speaker 4: the evening breeze blowing.
- 1:40Speaker 3: Yes, and there moves around or out here in a
- 1:42Speaker 3: dozen towns, and that's a fact.
- 1:44Speaker 5: Come on, is lddy gonna be all right?
- 1:50Speaker 6: No, Kitty, she isn't.
- 1:52Speaker 4: Oh, I'm sorry, it's your own fault. That sounds kind
- 1:57Speaker 4: of heartless, Doc, No.
- 1:59Speaker 3: I mean that she calls me out here to tend
- 2:01Speaker 3: to her when she feels bad. Nothing.
- 2:03Speaker 1: Then she never pays any attention to what I say,
- 2:05Speaker 1: What do you mean? I'm sure as I'm driving.
- 2:07Speaker 3: His buggy she's up on her feet right now.
- 2:10Speaker 1: Oh yes, doing some hard shore around the place, wearing
- 2:14Speaker 1: yourself right down into another spell.
- 2:17Speaker 3: Oh, I just do not know how women do it.
- 2:21Speaker 5: Well, they'll tell you the work won't get done by itself.
- 2:24Speaker 1: They tell me that all, but there's not a bit
- 2:27Speaker 1: of sense to it. Waiting a day or two to
- 2:29Speaker 1: scrub a floor.
- 2:30Speaker 5: Wouldn't matter, not at all, what to a woman.
- 2:34Speaker 3: Now you see. Oh you're all alike.
- 2:36Speaker 4: Come on, doc, let's not argue our way back to Dodge.
- 2:40Speaker 4: I don't get a chance to ride out on your
- 2:42Speaker 4: calls with you very often. I don't want to spoil
- 2:45Speaker 4: it by having to defend womankind for mankind either.
- 2:48Speaker 3: For that matter, all right, get either. I'm kind of
- 2:54Speaker 3: sorry we can't stay out a little long.
- 2:56Speaker 5: Yeah I am too.
- 2:58Speaker 4: It's not exactly what fresh in the long branch these
- 3:01Speaker 4: hot nights.
- 3:02Speaker 7: Ye.
- 3:04Speaker 1: Well, if it weren't for that fool hut Perkins, we
- 3:07Speaker 1: wouldn't have to hurry back something.
- 3:09Speaker 5: The matter with hot no, I doubt it.
- 3:12Speaker 3: I doubt if there's anything wrong with him that a
- 3:13Speaker 3: little less whiskey wouldn't cure it. But I promised him
- 3:17Speaker 3: i'd look him over when I got back to Tom's.
- 3:19Speaker 4: He sure does a lot of talking about how good
- 3:21Speaker 4: your doctrine is. You better take good care of him, Doc,
- 3:25Speaker 4: He'll drum me up a lot of business.
- 3:27Speaker 3: Yeah, he just needs somebody to tell him every so
- 3:29Speaker 3: often that he hasn't got a fatal disease yet, and
- 3:33Speaker 3: that makes him really good and friendly until the next time.
- 3:38Speaker 5: Well, he's your friend, that's for certain. Doc. Does somebody
- 3:42Speaker 5: standing in the road up ahead? Doctor? It's an Indian?
- 3:47Speaker 3: I see him, kidding, just a crime.
- 3:51Speaker 5: He's not gonna move out of the road.
- 3:54Speaker 3: He wants us to stop.
- 3:56Speaker 5: He's got a gun.
- 3:57Speaker 3: No, don't be frightened, kidding, Just sit still. Yeah, why
- 4:07Speaker 3: do you stop me? What do you want you?
- 4:10Speaker 2: Doctor?
- 4:11Speaker 3: Yes, I'm the doctor.
- 4:13Speaker 6: You come?
- 4:15Speaker 3: You want me to come with you?
- 4:17Speaker 2: Other way?
- 4:18Speaker 6: You come?
- 4:19Speaker 5: What does he mean?
- 4:20Speaker 3: What it means to turn the buggy around and go
- 4:22Speaker 3: back the way we came?
- 4:23Speaker 2: Other way?
- 4:25Speaker 5: There's another one duck on a horse back of that tree.
- 4:29Speaker 3: Yes, I see him. I expect everybody to do what
- 4:34Speaker 3: they want. I'm sorry, it's so rough kid here, so mighty,
- 4:52Speaker 3: I'm even grown.
- 4:53Speaker 4: I'll make it fine, doctor, which I knew where we
- 4:57Speaker 4: were going.
- 4:59Speaker 3: M How far? Where do you take us? Not exactly, Gabby,
- 5:07Speaker 3: that's one thing.
- 5:09Speaker 5: I don't feel too talking it myself.
- 5:11Speaker 3: No, neither do I. Oh look at that kiddie in
- 5:18Speaker 3: those cottonwoods.
- 5:19Speaker 5: By the river, Doc, I feel a little sick.
- 5:23Speaker 3: Golly that there's a lot of them. They've set up
- 5:26Speaker 3: quite a camp down there, so we'll be stopping soon.
- 5:30Speaker 3: You just sit straight and quiet, all right, Doc, And
- 5:33Speaker 3: don't be afraid.
- 5:38Speaker 6: He'll stop.
- 5:43Speaker 5: And then they're walking all around us.
- 5:48Speaker 3: Don't show any fear. Is there a chief among you?
- 5:56Speaker 3: I will speak to your chief.
- 6:02Speaker 2: I am a little wolf. I am chief.
- 6:06Speaker 3: You will tell me why I've been brought here. You
- 6:09Speaker 3: a doctor? Yes, yes, I'm a doctor.
- 6:12Speaker 2: Walk dog out of buggy.
- 6:15Speaker 3: Little wolf has not told me why his braves have
- 6:17Speaker 3: brought me here. Hi, son, he is sick, and oh
- 6:23Speaker 3: you you want me to look at him? You will
- 6:26Speaker 3: make him strong, Walk dom. If I look at your son,
- 6:32Speaker 3: little wolf, the woman here and the buggy, she'll be safe.
- 6:36Speaker 2: You will be safe.
- 6:37Speaker 3: The chief will give his word.
- 6:39Speaker 2: The little Wolf gives his word.
- 6:42Speaker 3: I will come here. You just sit quiet, kid, He'll
- 6:45Speaker 3: be all right. The chief means what he says. I
- 6:48Speaker 3: hope so that I won't to belong. All right, little Wolf,
- 6:55Speaker 3: show me the boy come this way. There is no
- 7:03Speaker 3: medicine man with little Wolf. Medicine man made of magic.
- 7:09Speaker 3: The boy still sickens. And do you think I can cure?
- 7:15Speaker 3: Little Wolf was prisoner with white man. He saw white
- 7:20Speaker 3: Man's magic bring strength to fallen soldier.
- 7:25Speaker 2: You'll make my son strong.
- 7:29Speaker 7: Yeah, he lies in there going hum.
- 7:37Speaker 3: Yes, I see all right, little Wolf. I'll have a
- 7:43Speaker 3: look at him. Let me get down so I can
- 7:45Speaker 3: see him. M yes see there's a fever, erratic pulse.
- 7:59Speaker 3: How long is your son is spoken? Yesterday?
- 8:02Speaker 2: Sunrise?
- 8:04Speaker 3: I see he will be well. Your son's a sick boy,
- 8:11Speaker 3: a very sick boy.
- 8:12Speaker 2: You will make him strong.
- 8:13Speaker 3: I will try.
- 8:16Speaker 2: You will stay here in lodge with my son.
- 8:20Speaker 3: If I stay, a little wolf, there must be a bargain.
- 8:24Speaker 3: Your bargain for the life of my son. I would
- 8:27Speaker 3: bargain for the woman. She is to go free. If
- 8:31Speaker 3: woman goes free, she will bring soldiers. No now, I'll
- 8:34Speaker 3: speak to her. I will tell her of your son.
- 8:37Speaker 3: She will not bring the soldiers. Better she stay here.
- 8:40Speaker 3: I've told you a little wolf. She will not bring
- 8:43Speaker 3: the soldiers. Doctor give me his word. The doctor gives

- 9:32Speaker 8: Well that's that.
- 9:33Speaker 2: I don't know how you ever made out in the
- 9:35Speaker 2: army Chester.
- 9:36Speaker 3: He wasn't too bad, not working around the supply wagons
- 9:40Speaker 3: like a nun. You know, know what do you reckon
- 9:44Speaker 3: more Huggins want for this?
- 9:46Speaker 1: I mean, you figure it's important enough that we have
- 9:48Speaker 1: to ride a full day out.
- 9:50Speaker 8: To his place and back.
- 9:51Speaker 2: Now you didn't have to come, you know, well, I.
- 9:53Speaker 8: Know there ain't nothing to do in Dodge except the
- 9:55Speaker 8: whoodl and spit.

- 10:13Speaker 1: wasn't at the long branch.
- 10:14Speaker 2: Yeah, I know. I don't leave it off. I want
- 10:17Speaker 2: to urn either one of them. They work pretty hard,
- 10:19Speaker 2: you know.
- 10:20Speaker 1: Yes, sir, I suppose to do, But I can't help
- 10:24Speaker 1: thinking that just about the time this old prairie as
- 10:26Speaker 1: hard as a cook of and Doc will be ambled
- 10:28Speaker 1: in along front Street on his way to have a
- 10:30Speaker 1: noontime beer with Miss Kitty, and Miss Kitty will be there,
- 10:34Speaker 1: cool and comfortable, sitting on a stool. Sam will be
- 10:37Speaker 1: pouring cool beer into great big picture, and everybody for Chester.
- 10:42Speaker 2: If you're gonna grumble all the way out to mart
- 10:44Speaker 2: Huggins Placier, but I turn around and start home right now.
- 10:47Speaker 8: Oh no, sir, I like it. I like it just fine?

- 11:29Speaker 3: been running most of the night.
- 11:31Speaker 5: Yeah it has.
- 11:32Speaker 9: Oh, I waited up quite a scroll for the doctor
- 11:36Speaker 9: to come in. You must have run into a real
- 11:38Speaker 9: bad case out there, someone's.
- 11:41Speaker 5: Real bad case. He's still out there.
- 11:44Speaker 9: Well, I'll fix it for somebody to go out and
- 11:46Speaker 9: fetch him on. Hitch you up a fresh horse. I
- 11:48Speaker 9: didn't send the peters.
- 11:49Speaker 5: No, Moss, don't do that.
- 11:51Speaker 9: Well, you ain't just gonna leave him now out there
- 11:53Speaker 9: to walk home. I am, miss Kitty. Where is Doc anyway?
- 11:58Speaker 5: Don't ask me that, Moss be cause I can't tell you.

- 12:23Speaker 3: Sure, I will, Miss Kitty.
- 12:25Speaker 9: Thanks, Moss, MS Kitty, you sure you feel all right?
- 12:32Speaker 5: Yeah? Thanks, I'm right. You just be sure to tell Matt.
- 12:45Speaker 1: You sure you don't want me to fetch you some
- 12:46Speaker 1: dinner kitty way past noontime?
- 12:48Speaker 4: No thanks, Sam, I don't feel like eating just yet.
- 12:52Speaker 4: His coffee is fine.
- 12:53Speaker 2: Body should keep her strength time. Oh no, not him again?

- 13:16Speaker 1: Letty Green, why there ain't nothing wrong with her to
- 13:19Speaker 1: mount anything? Limb told me she's up and around.
- 13:21Speaker 5: Already, not Letty Green.
- 13:22Speaker 1: He give me his word he'd be here. He ain't
- 13:25Speaker 1: got no right to go back on his word for heaven. Besides,
- 13:28Speaker 1: there's something my strange going on.
- 13:30Speaker 6: Moss.
- 13:30Speaker 1: Grimmick says, you brung Doc's buggy and yourself. Now, why
- 13:33Speaker 1: would Doc want to go and let you take his buget?
- 13:35Speaker 5: I didn't steal it, Hut, It.
- 13:37Speaker 3: Don't make no sense.
- 13:39Speaker 1: How's Doc going to get back to dog?

- 14:00Speaker 4: anything about.
- 14:01Speaker 1: I know enough not to leave Doc out there.
- 14:04Speaker 4: If you go after him, you can endanger Doc's life
- 14:06Speaker 4: and your own two.
- 14:09Speaker 3: What do you mean by that? Just what I say,
- 14:11Speaker 3: Doc in some kind of trouble.
- 14:13Speaker 5: He won't be if you leave him alone.
- 14:15Speaker 3: Sounds like somebody's holding him, forcing him to stay. Is
- 14:18Speaker 3: that the way it is?
- 14:18Speaker 5: I didn't say that.
- 14:19Speaker 3: Well, I ain't gonna let nothing like that have to Doc.
- 14:21Speaker 3: He's got plenty of friends in this time. We'll go

- 14:27Speaker 1: in some kind of trouble. We ain't gonna stand for that. Now,
- 14:31Speaker 1: we'll just go get on our horses and go get him.

- 15:18Speaker 8: I pretty dirty?
- 15:20Speaker 3: We say? You can tell folks who spent the best

- 15:28Speaker 3: if they asked me out so Yeah, and a fine
- 15:31Speaker 3: thing for a US mark will be doing. Do you

- 18:51Speaker 2: They're holding Doctor Tender, the chief's son.
- 18:54Speaker 3: Oh that's the way it is.
- 18:55Speaker 2: Yeah, that's the way it is. And the sooner as
- 18:56Speaker 2: you turn around and head back to Dodge, the better.
- 18:59Speaker 1: Marshall, I ain't afraid of no Indians. We ain't afraid
- 19:02Speaker 1: of no Indians. There were boys.
- 19:04Speaker 3: If the Indians have old Doc would just breaking loose longer?
- 19:07Speaker 2: Boys, All right, be quiet out of your now, listen
- 19:10Speaker 2: to me. Is there anybody here who thinks he's a
- 19:14Speaker 2: better friend of Doc Adams than I am? Well?
- 19:18Speaker 3: Is there?
- 19:21Speaker 2: All right? Then you know that I'm as interested in
- 19:23Speaker 2: getting him out as anybody is.
- 19:24Speaker 3: Let's go get him in.
- 19:25Speaker 2: I'll tell you one thing for sure, if you're all
- 19:28Speaker 2: right out on that Indian camp you want to be
- 19:29Speaker 2: doing Doc of favor, at least it'll happen, is that
- 19:33Speaker 2: you'll get him killed. There'll probably be an Indian uprising
- 19:36Speaker 2: to boot.
- 19:38Speaker 3: Now.
- 19:38Speaker 2: The best thing you can do for Doc is to
- 19:40Speaker 2: turn around and go home and let me handle this.
- 19:44Speaker 3: You figure to take care of it.
- 19:45Speaker 8: A Loane Marshall.
- 19:47Speaker 2: If it can be done at all, that's the only
- 19:48Speaker 2: way to do it.
- 19:49Speaker 3: Well, now listen to him, boys, and Marshall thinks he
- 19:52Speaker 3: can do the job better than all of us to get.
- 19:54Speaker 2: Look, I know about these things. It's my job to
- 19:56Speaker 2: know about him. You go on, you go on back
- 20:01Speaker 2: to Dodge, and you take these men with you.
- 20:03Speaker 1: You always gotta be the whole show, don't you, Marshall. Well,
- 20:06Speaker 1: I may work in Dodge City, but it don't work
- 20:08Speaker 1: out here.
- 20:09Speaker 3: You tell me to go back to Dodge.
- 20:10Speaker 8: You gotta fight on.
- 20:11Speaker 2: Your hands, all right, Hud you suit yourself.
- 20:15Speaker 1: You ain't giving me no more.
- 20:23Speaker 8: Want me to get his guns?
- 20:25Speaker 2: Rochester, I think he's throwed. Now any of the rest
- 20:28Speaker 2: of you set on riding out of that camp, because
- 20:32Speaker 2: if you are, you're gonna have to fight me before
- 20:34Speaker 2: you fight on the Indians. All right, Then pick up
- 20:39Speaker 2: Hudd and get him back to Dodge. Come on, Chester,
- 20:41Speaker 2: let's see what we can do for Duc.
- 21:00Speaker 3: Sure must have sauce coming, But now what you're doing, Yeah.
- 21:03Speaker 2: At least they haven't started shooting. Let's leave the horses here,
- 21:07Speaker 2: Chester and walk in the camp. We won't look so
- 21:10Speaker 2: much like a cavalry. That way. White men stop.
- 21:25Speaker 3: The sauce.
- 21:26Speaker 2: Now all right, all around, we just stand steady. We
- 21:32Speaker 2: come in peace. White men wear guns. Our guns stay covered.
- 21:36Speaker 2: Indian guns not covered.
- 21:39Speaker 3: You reckon, they're gonna shoot.
- 21:40Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 21:40Speaker 3: Chester.
- 21:41Speaker 2: Just don't make any fast moves.
- 21:42Speaker 3: All right, it's all right. They're friends of mine. The
- 21:44Speaker 3: two white men are friends of mine. It's all right. Now,
- 21:48Speaker 3: that's all right. I'll tell you you can put your
- 21:49Speaker 3: guns down.
- 21:50Speaker 8: My Greg's a live us doing them Indians and doing
- 21:53Speaker 8: just what.
- 21:53Speaker 1: He says to Hello, Matt, and just say where you
- 21:57Speaker 1: can be thankful.
- 21:58Speaker 2: That I was here. I am the but you don't
- 22:01Speaker 2: seem very glad to see us.
- 22:02Speaker 3: And I told Kitty not send anybody after me.
- 22:06Speaker 2: That's a long story, Doc.
- 22:07Speaker 3: I'm not interested in a long stories, Matt. Now that
- 22:11Speaker 3: you've come there, how do you figure to get me
- 22:13Speaker 3: back to Dodgy? Riding behind one of you two?
- 22:17Speaker 2: I had to tell you the truth. Doc. We figured
- 22:19Speaker 2: to get you out the best way we could.
- 22:22Speaker 3: It's a good thing I didn't rely on you to
- 22:24Speaker 3: work things out.
- 22:27Speaker 6: Are you there?
- 22:28Speaker 3: Bring me my horse, Doc? You mean they'd give you your
- 22:32Speaker 3: very own horse to keep why certainly says there that
- 22:37Speaker 3: was part of the bargain. If I cured the boy,
- 22:41Speaker 3: I got a horse and my freedom.
- 22:43Speaker 2: What about the other part of the bargain, dog, But
- 22:46Speaker 2: if you hadn't cured.
- 22:46Speaker 3: The boy, well that's pretty simple, man, I wouldn't have
- 22:51Speaker 3: needed the horse.
