- 0:00Speaker 1: WKBN. 407 in the afternoon, 73 degrees. You're on the air. Hello.
- 0:09Speaker 1: Very strange day we're having here. Wait a minute. You're
- 0:13Speaker 1: on the air. I'm going to say that we got
- 0:19Speaker 1: some issues with our phone lines here. In my opinion.
- 0:26Speaker 1: So we'll try to do– we'll try to get it
- 0:28Speaker 1: resolved anyway. We'll try to find out if we have
- 0:33Speaker 1: a phone line issue, problems. Just be persistent, 330-729-9977. Sometimes
- 0:40Speaker 1: these things– we're going through some internal changes as far
- 0:45Speaker 1: as things are concerned, and it seems to be some
- 0:47Speaker 1: snafus that are going on. But be persistent, and I'll
- 0:52Speaker 1: do my best to see if we can– Get things
- 0:56Speaker 1: squared away here on NewsRadio 570 at ODKVN. And I'll
- 1:00Speaker 1: get the powers to be to see if they know
- 1:05Speaker 1: what's going on here. There we go.
- 1:19Speaker 2: All right.
- 1:20Speaker 1: Well, we'll see if that works. Anyway, we're talking here.
- 1:23Speaker 1: People ask... How do I assess this whole situation? When
- 1:31Speaker 1: we talk about Iran and what's going on with it,
- 1:36Speaker 1: there isn't anything good about $ 5 gasoline. But I don't
- 1:42Speaker 1: want people, when I bellyache about it, I don't want
- 1:44Speaker 1: people to misunderstand me for one minute. I mean, do
- 1:47Speaker 1: you think for a second I regret voting for Trump?
- 1:51Speaker 1: I do not. Do you think I would feel that
- 1:53Speaker 1: we'd be better off if Biden was president or Kamala
- 1:56Speaker 1: Harris was president? I do not. So I voted for
- 2:00Speaker 1: Trump three times. In general, overall, I think he's done
- 2:05Speaker 1: a really good job. And I can disagree with him.
- 2:10Speaker 1: It doesn't matter whether I agree or disagree on the
- 2:13Speaker 1: reasons why we started this war with Iran. It's irrelevant
- 2:17Speaker 1: at this point because it's underway. So it doesn't matter.
- 2:21Speaker 1: It's not even worth debating. I suspect when we reach
- 2:25Speaker 1: some type of conclusion or it's over, we can discuss that.
- 2:29Speaker 1: But until then, what's the point? I mean, it's here
- 2:33Speaker 1: and it's happening. Do I get frustrated with the Democrats
- 2:37Speaker 1: who seem, as I've said earlier, they seem like they
- 2:39Speaker 1: hate Trump more than they love their country? And I
- 2:41Speaker 1: would say that that's true. It's almost the Democrats' wish
- 2:45Speaker 1: for failure because it could make Trump look bad. In
- 2:52Speaker 1: so many ways, as I say, they hate Trump more
- 2:55Speaker 1: than they love their country and they wish for failure.
- 2:58Speaker 1: And that makes me sit back and wonder. why anyone
- 3:04Speaker 1: would root in that fashion. And I find them doing that.
- 3:11Speaker 1: So when I look at this particular situation, I mean,
- 3:15Speaker 1: is it fair to, as I say, I'm not a
- 3:17Speaker 1: cheerleader for Trump. I'd vote for him again. When I
- 3:22Speaker 1: look at this situation, do I have some questions about it? Absolutely.
- 3:28Speaker 1: Why we got in it in the first place. You
- 3:33Speaker 1: keep telling me a deal is close, a deal is near,
- 3:35Speaker 1: yet I don't see one. And I'm constantly hearing this.
- 3:39Speaker 1: Iran wants to make a deal. Iran wants to make
- 3:40Speaker 1: a deal. But there isn't one yet. And I'm still
- 3:44Speaker 1: looking for one. And there isn't one. When is that
- 3:48Speaker 1: going to happen? I keep hearing it. We got him
- 3:55Speaker 1: on the ropes. And I think we do. Economically speaking.
- 4:02Speaker 1: They're devastated, but are they willing to take the hit
- 4:05Speaker 1: and wait us out? Because they know we're going to
- 4:08Speaker 1: pack up and go back home. They know the midterms
- 4:11Speaker 1: are coming, and they know maybe it's a waiting game.
- 4:14Speaker 1: I don't know. Is that part of their culture? They
- 4:16Speaker 1: don't care the pain that's inflicted on their own people?
- 4:22Speaker 1: I don't understand. As I said last hour, their culture.
- 4:25Speaker 1: I don't get it. But I do understand our culture here,
- 4:33Speaker 1: as I say, and I do understand the economics of things.
- 4:38Speaker 1: And over the weekend, I was reading a guy that
- 4:41Speaker 1: says the problem really isn't is an oil shortage, actually,
- 4:45Speaker 1: is what the problem is. And that's why. When you
- 4:48Speaker 1: look at the global situation, that's why you see five
- 4:51Speaker 1: dollar a gallon gasoline here. And he seemed to think
- 4:55Speaker 1: that that situation would be getting worse, not better. I mean,
- 5:00Speaker 1: that's one man's opinion. as far as somebody with some
- 5:04Speaker 1: degree of know-how in the industry. So I just pass
- 5:07Speaker 1: it along. So you see gas prices in my neck
- 5:11Speaker 1: of the woods at $ 4. 89, $ 5 a gallon, which is
- 5:17Speaker 1: interesting because in other parts of the country, it's less.
- 5:22Speaker 1: I don't know why that is. With the exception of California,
- 5:26Speaker 1: we all know why those prices are high out there.
- 5:28Speaker 1: But why is it less when we look at Other
- 5:31Speaker 1: areas close to us. It might be $ 4. 50 a gallon.
- 5:38Speaker 1: And here it's $ 5. You sit back and you wonder, well,
- 5:41Speaker 1: what the hell is going on here? So the headlines today,
- 5:44Speaker 1: Iran attacks UAE.
- 5:46Speaker 3: U.S.
- 5:48Speaker 1: Says it sank boats in Strait of Hormuz. The headlines today,
- 5:56Speaker 1: traffic in the Strait of Hormuz. Won't return to normal
- 6:00Speaker 1: until August or later, according to traders. Well, this is May. June, July, August?
- 6:10Speaker 1: It's a ways off. Next headline, U.S. military denies Iran's
- 6:15Speaker 1: claim it's struck American warship in Strait of Hormuz. Dow
- 6:23Speaker 1: falls 500 points as oil jumps on fear Iran conflict
- 6:27Speaker 1: set to flare up again. So if that's the case,
- 6:34Speaker 1: should I be prepared to see oil prices go higher
- 6:37Speaker 1: than $ 5 a gallon?
- 6:41Speaker 2: Yes?
- 6:41Speaker 1: No? I mean, that's my initial thought when I'm reading
- 6:45Speaker 1: these headlines. And then you come back and say to yourself, okay,
- 6:48Speaker 1: if that's the situation, if that is what the current
- 6:53Speaker 1: situation is, how long do they expect the American people
- 6:59Speaker 1: to be able to tolerate this? I mean, I'm not
- 7:04Speaker 1: saying that's the reason why spirits went out of businesses
- 7:08Speaker 1: and airlines. They had other issues. But certainly the cost
- 7:11Speaker 1: of what you see as far as jet fuel is
- 7:14Speaker 1: concerned is astronomical. The price of it is through the roof.
- 7:21Speaker 1: So you don't think the ticket prices are going to
- 7:23Speaker 1: increase for anybody wanting to go on vacation or fly
- 7:26Speaker 1: to Florida somewhere? All right, the phone lines are now
- 7:31Speaker 1: back up. I'm told. So, okay, now you can call.
- 7:34Speaker 1: All right, thanks. 330-729-9977. 330-729-9977. So our phone lines were down.
- 7:44Speaker 1: We're having some, quite frankly, iHeart is not me, infrastructure
- 7:48Speaker 1: issues that are going on. So our phone lines are working.
- 7:52Speaker 1: Frank from Fort Lauderdale and Jake and the folks that
- 7:54Speaker 1: got disconnected, please feel free to call back and make
- 7:59Speaker 1: your points. And you as well. All of you. 330-729-9977. So,
- 8:10Speaker 1: the headlines don't look good is what I'm saying. The
- 8:14Speaker 1: Dow falling 500 points as oil jumps on fear. So,
- 8:17Speaker 1: if oil jumps, should I not anticipate oil prices going
- 8:20Speaker 1: up even more? I don't know. Seems to go hand
- 8:24Speaker 1: in hand. But I do know that it has a
- 8:29Speaker 1: devastating effect on everything. And they can't constantly say, when
- 8:35Speaker 1: it comes to elections, it's the economy, stupid. And it is.
- 8:39Speaker 1: And if people want to act like this isn't a
- 8:41Speaker 1: big deal, it's a very big deal. Whether it's here
- 8:45Speaker 1: this week or next week or the week after or
- 8:48Speaker 1: how long this goes on, it sucks a lot of
- 8:51Speaker 1: money out of your wallets and out of this economy
- 8:54Speaker 1: and creates a lot of inflation. And did the administration
- 9:01Speaker 1: misread Iran and how long this would take? Because I
- 9:04Speaker 1: honestly do believe they thought this would be over much
- 9:06Speaker 1: sooner than it is. And if they keep telling me
- 9:12Speaker 1: Iran wants to make a deal, wants to make a deal,
- 9:16Speaker 1: then why are we talking about doing another round of
- 9:19Speaker 1: bombing and this kind of stuff? I thought they wanted
- 9:22Speaker 1: to make a deal. Conflicting messages. You're on the air.
- 9:25Speaker 4: Hey, Ron, how you doing?
- 9:28Speaker 2: Good.
- 9:28Speaker 1: Your comments.
- 9:30Speaker 4: Hey, a little bit off topic, but I called you
- 9:33Speaker 4: a couple weeks ago about this morning with Gordon Deal.
- 9:35Speaker 4: Did you find out anything?
- 9:38Speaker 1: Frankly, I forgot all about it with the election going on.
- 9:40Speaker 4: Oh, that's all right. I'll touch on the topic you
- 9:46Speaker 4: were talking about today.
- 9:47Speaker 1: Another important topic, just as a side note to folks,
- 9:50Speaker 1: is tomorrow is Election Day, right? It's May 5th. So,
- 9:52Speaker 1: I mean, if people got some comments about the election,
- 9:55Speaker 1: because we have a lot of local elections that are
- 9:58Speaker 1: going on, if people have some input on any of
- 10:00Speaker 1: our races, give us a call as well. The time
- 10:03Speaker 1: is now. Go ahead, sir. I'm sorry.
- 10:06Speaker 4: That's all right. What you were talking about last week
- 10:08Speaker 4: with being critical of Trump, and I honestly believe you
- 10:12Speaker 4: should be more critical of who you vote for than
- 10:15Speaker 4: the person you didn't. And Because that is your right,
- 10:20Speaker 4: because you're trying to control the person that you wanted
- 10:24Speaker 4: in there in the first place. But if they go
- 10:28Speaker 4: off the handle, which I think he's going a little
- 10:30Speaker 4: bit off the handle, you have absolutely every right to
- 10:33Speaker 4: be critical of the guy. And usually Rich is spot
- 10:38Speaker 4: on with things, but I was very taken back by
- 10:41Speaker 4: him a little over a week ago. with a kind
- 10:45Speaker 4: of elitist attitude of, just wait it out, it's okay,
- 10:48Speaker 4: don't worry about it. No, people are really hurting out
- 10:53Speaker 4: there monetarily because of the price of gas and other
- 10:57Speaker 4: things that are still up from the Biden era.
- 11:00Speaker 1: Yes. Yeah, and you're correct, and people are saying, hey, Trump,
- 11:07Speaker 1: get back to the affordability issue and America first issue.
- 11:11Speaker 2: Exactly.
- 11:12Speaker 4: You ran on that platform to make our lives better,
- 11:17Speaker 4: and yet you still haven't done anything with Ukraine to
- 11:20Speaker 4: shut off all that money going there. You're dumping money
- 11:24Speaker 4: hand over fist to Iran to try to fight something
- 11:27Speaker 4: over there. What are you doing about America first?
- 11:32Speaker 1: I agree with that. I'm in total agreement with that.
- 11:35Speaker 1: America first affordability issue. I think is far more important
- 11:39Speaker 1: than the situation in Iran. I'm with you 100%. Thank you.
- 11:43Speaker 4: All right, you're on the air.
- 11:46Speaker 2: Yeah, just checking.
- 11:47Speaker 5: Everything's good up here in Rock Creek. I can hear
- 11:49Speaker 5: you loud and clear on the phone. But Iran is
- 11:53Speaker 5: all about money and nuclear power. And that gives you money.
- 11:59Speaker 5: It's a mafia running that country over there. And as
- 12:03Speaker 5: long as they got the money flowing... They're okay. They
- 12:07Speaker 5: can threaten nuclear all day, 7-24. But it's about power
- 12:13Speaker 5: and money and propaganda. But if you cut off their
- 12:17Speaker 5: money supply, they're going to fall. And that's what Donald's doing.
- 12:22Speaker 5: Donald is a genius. And our Secretary of Treasury is
- 12:28Speaker 5: a genius. And we won't even have to put boots
- 12:32Speaker 5: on the ground. You've just got to be patient. And
- 12:35Speaker 5: don't let those Democrats talk you different. Like that one
- 12:39Speaker 5: guy said, put a sock in it. Democrats, put a
- 12:42Speaker 5: sock in it. Donald knows what he's got. He's got
- 12:45Speaker 5: a great team behind him. This is amazing. This is
- 12:49Speaker 5: incredible what's going on in our country today, in our world.
- 12:53Speaker 5: Donald's going to change the whole design of the world
- 12:57Speaker 5: as far as power, economics, and less war. You just
- 13:05Speaker 5: got to hang in there. Don't let those Democrats give
- 13:09Speaker 5: you all that propaganda.
- 13:10Speaker 2: There he is.
- 13:12Speaker 1: The words of wisdom coming from Rock Creek.
- 13:15Speaker 5: We got a library levy up here. I don't know
- 13:17Speaker 5: what to vote for now. I just don't want them
- 13:21Speaker 5: to build a big Taj Mahal like they have down
- 13:23Speaker 5: in Louisville and Columbiana and stuff. But libraries are almost
- 13:31Speaker 5: a thing of the past.
- 13:32Speaker 1: Yes, they are.
- 13:34Speaker 5: It's more like a community center today than a library,
- 13:38Speaker 5: I think. But I'm struggling with it. I might not
- 13:41Speaker 5: just vote for it. Let the other people decide.
- 13:45Speaker 1: You better go out and vote against it. I appreciate
- 13:48Speaker 1: your call. You're on the air. Hey, Ron.
- 13:53Speaker 2: To respond to that gentleman two callers ago that said,
- 13:57Speaker 2: I don't care. No, I do care. I'm like everybody else.
- 14:00Speaker 2: I don't like paying five bucks a gallon.
- 14:02Speaker 1: No, but I think his point was you're in a
- 14:05Speaker 1: different income bracket as a lot of people, and this
- 14:09Speaker 1: idea of you're supposed to take it. Well, how long
- 14:11Speaker 1: are you supposed to take it? Because it's having a
- 14:13Speaker 1: devastating effect on a lot of business and individuals, whether
- 14:18Speaker 1: it's here now for a month or two months or whatever.
- 14:21Speaker 1: I mean, I like to get your assessment, and I
- 14:23Speaker 1: want to sit back and listen. I keep hearing, Ron
- 14:26Speaker 1: wants to make a deal. Ron wants to make a deal.
- 14:28Speaker 1: There is no deal. And it appears we're talking about
- 14:33Speaker 1: going back to bombing and stuff. Well, I thought Iran
- 14:35Speaker 1: wanted to make a deal. I thought we had them
- 14:37Speaker 1: right where we needed them. I mean, how long is
- 14:39Speaker 1: this supposed to go on with these headlines about where
- 14:45Speaker 1: I was just reading it? Dow falls 500 points as
- 14:49Speaker 1: oil jumps on fear of Iran conflict. So if oil
- 14:52Speaker 1: prices go up, you could go beyond $ 5 a gallon.
- 14:55Speaker 1: I mean, your assessment, please.
- 14:58Speaker 2: I think here's the problem in Iran. You've got people
- 15:01Speaker 2: that do want to make a deal. And I mean,
- 15:03Speaker 2: all of them.
- 15:04Speaker 1: Stand by. Just stand by. I want to come back
- 15:05Speaker 1: with your thoughts. Rich, the pharmacist, responds to it all.
- 15:09Speaker 1: When we come back after this, NewsRadio 570 WKBN. NewsRadio
- 15:14Speaker 1: 570 WKBN. He's been under a lot of attack today.
- 15:17Speaker 1: A lot of criticism from Rich, the pharmacist, from callers
- 15:20Speaker 1: and Ted, the conservative, and more today. But go ahead, Rich.
- 15:22Speaker 4: Okay.
- 15:24Speaker 2: Here's the problem you're running into in Iran. You're dealing
- 15:28Speaker 2: with a bunch of religious nut jobs. And like I
- 15:31Speaker 2: said before, there's two camps. There's one camp that just
- 15:34Speaker 2: doesn't care. They just want to kill everybody and go
- 15:39Speaker 2: meet all and get their 72 virgins. And you have
- 15:42Speaker 2: the other camp that still wants that, but they also
- 15:45Speaker 2: realize they have a country to run it. And so
- 15:48Speaker 2: they want to make a deal, but the problem is
- 15:51Speaker 2: the people that are controlling the guns and the power
- 15:53Speaker 2: are mostly the religious nutjobs. So as much as those
- 15:57Speaker 2: people want to make a deal, the other people aren't
- 15:59Speaker 2: going to let them make the deal. And the thing
- 16:02Speaker 2: that I think Trump, if I was going to criticize
- 16:05Speaker 2: him with anything on this, once again, you have to
- 16:09Speaker 2: look at history. When you're dealing with an enemy like this,
- 16:15Speaker 2: probably the closest analogy we would have would be the
- 16:17Speaker 2: Nazis in Germany and the Japanese government during World War II,
- 16:23Speaker 2: where no matter how much pain you inflicted on them,
- 16:26Speaker 2: if you look in both instances, they fought until their
- 16:30Speaker 2: countries were destroyed. In Germany's case, they fought until they
- 16:32Speaker 2: were literally completely overrun. Japan, finally, after the second nuke, said,
- 16:37Speaker 2: you know, we're going to bear the unbearable. and and
- 16:41Speaker 2: surrender but at that point they were they were still
- 16:44Speaker 2: beaten to a degree that we can't even comprehend today
- 16:49Speaker 2: and while five dollar a gallon gas is bad and
- 16:52Speaker 2: i don't like it my biggest fear is what what's
- 16:54Speaker 2: it going to do to the economy three six eight
- 16:56Speaker 2: months down the road uh... there are some pundits now
- 17:01Speaker 2: saying you know right now the stock market's been a
- 17:03Speaker 2: little exuberant on all mostly on this artificial intelligence stuff
- 17:07Speaker 2: And that's what's blowing it up. Plus, earnings reports and
- 17:10Speaker 2: stuff have been good. So, you know, it should, with
- 17:14Speaker 2: what's been going on with the Iran war, you would
- 17:16Speaker 2: think the market would be down 10 or 15%.
- 17:18Speaker 1: Well, it is down today. I mean, there is no
- 17:23Speaker 1: way that you can't tell me that this isn't affecting
- 17:26Speaker 1: the economy and spending. There is absolutely no way, even
- 17:30Speaker 1: in a short period of time, it is the main
- 17:33Speaker 1: thing I hear everybody bitching about on how expensive it
- 17:37Speaker 1: is to fill up their vehicle. And that money's got
- 17:40Speaker 1: to come from somewhere where they're not spending it somewhere else.
- 17:43Speaker 1: And I'm hearing it from business as well. Small business,
- 17:46Speaker 1: all types of businesses have raised their prices. They can't
- 17:49Speaker 1: absorb this.
- 17:52Speaker 2: I'm not going to argue that with you. I agree.
- 17:54Speaker 2: I can empathize with people that are hurting. It's not
- 17:57Speaker 2: that I don't feel for these people.
- 17:58Speaker 1: So do you think they're sitting there worried about Iran?
- 18:01Speaker 1: I mean, at any point do you criticize the Trump administration?
- 18:07Speaker 1: I will say it publicly. I think they thought this
- 18:09Speaker 1: would be over much sooner than it is. I think
- 18:14Speaker 1: they misread the entire thing. The backbone of Iran is say,
- 18:18Speaker 1: screw you. And I remember Iran saying, if you want
- 18:21Speaker 1: to destroy us and our economy, we can destroy you
- 18:23Speaker 1: and your economy too. But there's no question militarily, we're
- 18:28Speaker 1: doing a great job. There's no question about it at all.
- 18:31Speaker 1: But I don't understand the Iranian people. And I don't understand,
- 18:34Speaker 1: and it's a whole different culture from my culture, so
- 18:38Speaker 1: I don't have a read on them. But they keep
- 18:40Speaker 1: telling me, we got them right where we want them.
- 18:42Speaker 1: We got them right where we want them. But if
- 18:45Speaker 1: that's the case, why are we talking about bombing them
- 18:46Speaker 1: again if you got them right where you want them?
- 18:49Speaker 1: Why are you telling me there's a deal's imminent, they
- 18:51Speaker 1: want to make a deal? Why are you talking about
- 18:53Speaker 1: bombing them again if they want to make a deal?
- 18:55Speaker 1: What is the truth? It reminds me of Vietnam all
- 18:59Speaker 1: over again. What is the truth? How much do you
- 19:03Speaker 1: expect the American people to take of this, of $ 5 gasoline,
- 19:08Speaker 1: or higher since oil went up again today? I'd like
- 19:11Speaker 1: to get your comments. Just hang in there with me,
- 19:13Speaker 1: all right? I mean, I'm going to pick on Rich
- 19:16Speaker 1: the pharmacist when we come back after this. Stay tuned. Again,
- 19:20Speaker 1: this is Dan Rivers.

- 20:47Speaker 7: Back to it.
- 20:49Speaker 1: News Radio 570. Go ahead with your thoughts overall. I mean,
- 20:58Speaker 1: I've given you mine. I mean, go ahead. These guys
- 21:01Speaker 1: could have misread a lot of this. I mean, I
- 21:03Speaker 1: understand they know more than I do, but they really
- 21:05Speaker 1: thought that this would end much sooner than it did.
- 21:08Speaker 1: And it's not ending. They keep talking every day. I
- 21:11Speaker 1: hear we got a deal. Where's the deal? And today
- 21:15Speaker 1: the market is down. It'll go up whenever there's a deal.
- 21:18Speaker 1: And this is a mess. And the economy is becoming
- 21:25Speaker 1: a mess in this country as a result of it.
- 21:29Speaker 2: Because you're not, it should be over. I mean, you
- 21:31Speaker 2: take a look at what we have done to that
- 21:33Speaker 2: country in the last two months. This is only two
- 21:36Speaker 2: months old. You know, if you look at wars before this,
- 21:39Speaker 2: World War II, this is not a this is not
- 21:45Speaker 2: a war second time.
- 21:47Speaker 1: This was not meant to this was we don't want
- 21:50Speaker 1: to be in the middle east we don't want to
- 21:51Speaker 1: be in forever wars he ran on that so don't
- 21:53Speaker 1: give me the war stuff like this should go on
- 21:55Speaker 1: six months or a year if it does and we
- 21:58Speaker 1: pay high gas prices at all time and ruin our
- 22:00Speaker 1: economy like that's some justification for it they didn't go
- 22:04Speaker 1: into it with that being the idea.
- 22:08Speaker 2: I think they went into it thinking it would be
- 22:10Speaker 2: over by now. And by all rights, if you were
- 22:12Speaker 2: dealing with normal, rational people, it would be, but you're not. Now,
- 22:16Speaker 2: listening to your news..
- 22:18Speaker 1: Okay, but pause for a second. Pause for a second.
- 22:20Speaker 1: But you don't understand them and their culture. You're thinking
- 22:24Speaker 1: like that's how they should think. They don't think like you.
- 22:29Speaker 1: I can only tell you from my oldest son who said,
- 22:33Speaker 1: the first thing is, you don't understand them. You don't
- 22:36Speaker 1: understand their thinking. You want to think that they think
- 22:38Speaker 1: like you. They do not, he used to say. That's
- 22:42Speaker 1: the first thing you need to understand.
- 22:44Speaker 2: Ron, I've been saying that. That's exactly what I've been saying.
- 22:47Speaker 2: You're not dealing with normal, rational people. The Arab world
- 22:51Speaker 2: is totally foreign to the Western world. We have virtually
- 22:56Speaker 2: nothing in common with them. Different rule of law, different everything. But,
- 23:01Speaker 2: I mean, you would think a normal, rational country would
- 23:04Speaker 2: have capitulated by now, but they're not, and I just
- 23:06Speaker 2: said that. You know, that said, we're only two months in.
- 23:09Speaker 2: One of the encouraging things that I just heard on
- 23:11Speaker 2: your news break was that they actually escorted and have
- 23:14Speaker 2: a lane cleared to get ships out. If you start
- 23:18Speaker 2: seeing them move ships out of the Strait of Hormuz
- 23:21Speaker 2: while at the same time blocking Iran in so they
- 23:23Speaker 2: can't do anything, at that point, The war may go
- 23:28Speaker 2: on for a while, but it's only hurting Iran because
- 23:31Speaker 2: you're going to start to see traffic move out of
- 23:33Speaker 2: the street again and hopefully start to give us some
- 23:35Speaker 2: relief on this.
- 23:37Speaker 1: Well, some of these people say, well, it's not going
- 23:39Speaker 1: to just hurt Iran. It's going to hurt China with
- 23:42Speaker 1: its oil. It's going to hurt India.
- 23:43Speaker 2: Good.
- 23:44Speaker 1: No, let me finish. It's going to create starvation in
- 23:49Speaker 1: Africa because of fertilizer. And those problems are going to
- 23:53Speaker 1: cause an oil guy that I was reading over the
- 23:57Speaker 1: weekend says, you've got a problem with an oil shortage.
- 24:01Speaker 1: That's what your problem is. And you're going to see
- 24:03Speaker 1: the cost of oil continue to go up. So you
- 24:06Speaker 1: can say, good, good, but it's not good if it
- 24:08Speaker 1: means you're paying $ 5. 50 or $ 6 a gallon.
- 24:12Speaker 2: If they start getting oil out of the Gulf, if
- 24:15Speaker 2: they can start to get those big super tankers moving
- 24:18Speaker 2: and start getting oil delivered the way it was, even
- 24:22Speaker 2: to 50% of what it was before the war, you're
- 24:24Speaker 2: going to see oil come down. There's plenty of oil
- 24:27Speaker 2: in the world. Before this, why do you think prices
- 24:30Speaker 2: were so low before?
- 24:31Speaker 1: Doesn't matter. Why are they so high now?
- 24:35Speaker 2: Because 20% of the world's oil hasn't left in the
- 24:39Speaker 2: last two months.
- 24:40Speaker 1: But about the other 80%.
- 24:43Speaker 2: Well, the other 80% is being shared now. It's supply
- 24:46Speaker 2: and demand. Go back to economics. This is simple macroeconomics.
- 24:52Speaker 2: As supply goes down, price goes up. As supply goes up,
- 24:56Speaker 2: price goes down. So if supply starts to come back on,
- 24:59Speaker 2: if they can start to get a lot of these
- 25:01Speaker 2: big tankers moving and start delivering oil to the rest
- 25:04Speaker 2: of the world, that means the Europeans aren't going to
- 25:07Speaker 2: be sending tankers over to our country to buy it.
- 25:09Speaker 2: They're not going to be sending tankers over to Brazil
- 25:11Speaker 2: and Venezuela to buy it.
- 25:12Speaker 1: Well, what's the time frame?
- 25:14Speaker 2: They're going to start getting it out of the Middle East.
- 25:16Speaker 1: That's all well and good, but when?
- 25:19Speaker 2: Well, like I said, today they just said on your
- 25:21Speaker 2: news break that today they were able to get a
- 25:23Speaker 2: lane open and cleared so that they can get it out.
- 25:27Speaker 2: whether those boats are going to risk it. I mean,
- 25:30Speaker 2: if I'm a Greek tanker owner and I own a
- 25:32Speaker 2: billion-dollar boat, I'm probably not going to be the first
- 25:34Speaker 2: guy to take a boat loaded with a million, two
- 25:38Speaker 2: million barrels of oil, whatever they hold, through the strait
- 25:42Speaker 2: and have Iran hit it somehow. But if they can
- 25:45Speaker 2: establish that this lane is clear and if they can
- 25:48Speaker 2: start to move traffic through it, you're going to start
- 25:50Speaker 2: to see relief from this. The converse of that is,
- 25:54Speaker 2: if the Iranians are able to start hitting boats and
- 25:56Speaker 2: they can't get things moving, it's going to keep going up.
- 26:00Speaker 2: And you just don't know. Right now, you would think
- 26:04Speaker 2: the United States, with its military superiority, should be able
- 26:07Speaker 2: to open that strait. And if they do and they
- 26:10Speaker 2: start to get stuff moving, I think you'll start to
- 26:12Speaker 2: see some relief. But once again, it's not going to
- 26:15Speaker 2: be overnight.
- 26:16Speaker 1: Do you think the United States military is going to
- 26:22Speaker 1: be there forever to do this? Because at some point
- 26:28Speaker 1: they're going to leave. I mean, keep in mind, Iran
- 26:31Speaker 1: is saying that. I'm just trying to say what the
- 26:34Speaker 1: other side is saying. They're saying sooner or later you're
- 26:36Speaker 1: going to leave. And that's true.
- 26:38Speaker 2: Well, maybe it's time. I think one of the other
- 26:41Speaker 2: things that, you know, right now Saudi Arabia and UAE
- 26:44Speaker 2: are both exporting a decent amount of oil through the
- 26:47Speaker 2: Red Sea. They've got pipelines that go over there. That's
- 26:50Speaker 2: why it isn't worse, actually, because there's still some oil
- 26:54Speaker 2: getting out of the Middle East. I think long term,
- 26:58Speaker 2: a year or two from now, you're going to see
- 27:00Speaker 2: pipelines built through Iraq into Turkey to get into Europe.
- 27:03Speaker 1: I'm here to tell you people are not going to
- 27:05Speaker 1: put up with this crap a year or two from now.
- 27:08Speaker 1: I'm here to tell you, I think.
- 27:13Speaker 2: By this fall you're going to see, and this is
- 27:16Speaker 2: a big if, if they can get this trade open,
- 27:19Speaker 2: by August, September, you're going to see gas prices back
- 27:22Speaker 2: down in probably the three, three and a quarter, 375
- 27:27Speaker 2: a gallon range, depending upon how much oil they can
- 27:30Speaker 2: start to float out of there. It's simple supply and demand.
- 27:35Speaker 1: I understand that. Here's simple supply and demand. This is
- 27:38Speaker 1: affecting the American economy right now. Period. I don't care
- 27:45Speaker 1: about a month from now or two months from now.
- 27:47Speaker 1: Right now, it's affecting it. At $ 5 a gallon or
- 27:52Speaker 1: at $ 4. 85.
- 27:56Speaker 2: This is that sign when you have little kids and
- 27:57Speaker 2: you go into a..
- 27:58Speaker 1: No, no, no, no. I'm just trying to give you..
- 28:01Speaker 2: We broke it.
- 28:02Speaker 1: We broke it.
- 28:03Speaker 2: Right. Now we've got to own it and fix it.
- 28:09Speaker 2: So you can see we can bellyache about it all
- 28:11Speaker 2: day long. And I agree. I'm not trying to minimize
- 28:16Speaker 2: the pain people are.
- 28:16Speaker 1: Listen, I will be. Listen, I voted for Trump. I
- 28:20Speaker 1: vote for him again. The good far outweighs the bad.
- 28:23Speaker 1: But it's a fair discussion to say, was this a
- 28:24Speaker 1: mistake from the very beginning? Well, that's to be debated
- 28:28Speaker 1: after this is concluded, because you're in it right now.
- 28:31Speaker 1: You're in it at this point in time. But I
- 28:34Speaker 1: think it's a fair conclusion, and you agree, they misread
- 28:37Speaker 1: this situation. They thought it would be over much sooner
- 28:40Speaker 1: than it has been, and it isn't. I think they.
- 28:45Speaker 2: Both thought it would be over. I don't think, I
- 28:47Speaker 2: think from a lot of the stuff I've read on
- 28:49Speaker 2: the military, they gave, they told him, look, you know,
- 28:52Speaker 2: when we go in.
- 28:53Speaker 1: Well, Trump's calling the shots.
- 28:54Speaker 2: They're going to close the strait. And he gambled. He
- 28:57Speaker 2: rolled the dice and he gambled. And, you know, this
- 29:00Speaker 2: time it didn't work for him. At least so far.
- 29:06Speaker 2: What I'm saying is long term, I think this probably
- 29:09Speaker 2: will work out to our advantage long term.
- 29:12Speaker 1: Short term, it sucks.
- 29:13Speaker 2: Short term, it sucks. There's no other way to say it.
- 29:16Speaker 1: And what's short term? I think if people said, okay,
- 29:20Speaker 1: let's see, May 15th, everything's starting to get, the market's
- 29:26Speaker 1: going back up, oil prices are coming back down, we
- 29:28Speaker 1: see relief coming. But There's no sign of that. I mean,
- 29:35Speaker 1: are you the least bit concerned that you're constantly hearing
- 29:38Speaker 1: they want to make a deal, they want to make
- 29:39Speaker 1: a deal? and there's no deal?
- 29:42Speaker 2: No, that's because that's the way those people are. Not
- 29:44Speaker 2: only that, when they make the deal, they lie. The
- 29:48Speaker 2: Iranian foreign minister said the street is open. And then
- 29:52Speaker 2: the other people that actually control the guns said, no,
- 29:54Speaker 2: it isn't. So in one day, oil went down, what
- 29:58Speaker 2: was it, $ 10, $ 12 a barrel. two, three weeks ago
- 30:01Speaker 2: when they said it was open for a day. And
- 30:04Speaker 2: then the very next day it was closed because the
- 30:07Speaker 2: people who control the guns said, we're not agreeing to this.
- 30:11Speaker 2: And they closed it down again. They threatened ships. You're
- 30:17Speaker 2: not dealing with rational people, but... No, you're dealing..
- 30:22Speaker 1: You keep saying that. You're dealing with their culture. They
- 30:26Speaker 1: don't think you're rational. Stop trying to say you're not
- 30:30Speaker 1: dealing with rational people. That's who they are. You knew
- 30:33Speaker 1: that going in there. It's a whole different culture. Stop
- 30:39Speaker 1: saying you're not dealing with rational people. They don't think
- 30:42Speaker 1: you're rational. They think, who are you to tell us
- 30:47Speaker 1: we can't have a nuclear weapon? This is our country.
- 30:49Speaker 1: We're 93 million people. Who the hell are you to
- 30:52Speaker 1: tell us that? And they think, you think you want
- 30:55Speaker 1: to do that to us? We'll do this to you.
- 30:57Speaker 1: Who was it? Was it Robert Kennedy or John F.
- 31:00Speaker 1: Kennedy that said, you better understand the enemies, where the
- 31:04Speaker 1: enemy's coming from when you get into these situations. You
- 31:07Speaker 1: better understand what their mindset is.
- 31:11Speaker 2: And that would be fine if we were studying going
- 31:14Speaker 2: to war with Iran now.
- 31:15Speaker 1: You're in a war with them right now.
- 31:17Speaker 2: Hillary Clinton, at this point, what difference does it make?
- 31:20Speaker 2: Because you're in the war.
- 31:21Speaker 1: Well, because..
- 31:22Speaker 2: You can go through the coulda, shoulda, woulda, but right
- 31:24Speaker 2: now we're in it. you're going to have to persevere
- 31:28Speaker 2: and get through it. Because the worst thing you could
- 31:31Speaker 2: do right now would be to just pull out and
- 31:33Speaker 2: just say, you know what, we're going home. Because at
- 31:36Speaker 2: that point, then Iran does control the strait. They start
- 31:38Speaker 2: charging a million or two million dollars about tariffs, which generates,
- 31:43Speaker 2: I forget what it was, 50 or 100 billion dollars
- 31:45Speaker 2: a year for them.
- 31:47Speaker 1: And how come they didn't do that before the war?
- 31:54Speaker 2: I don't think they realized how much money they could
- 31:56Speaker 2: actually make if they controlled the Strait. Plus, they probably
- 31:58Speaker 2: figured nobody's going to let them control the Strait.
- 32:01Speaker 1: So did we create a monster?
- 32:05Speaker 2: No, I mean, the monster is atrophying. The monster is
- 32:09Speaker 2: in a death by the Strait right now. We're just
- 32:11Speaker 2: waiting for it to die.
- 32:12Speaker 1: Okay, when the American ships leave, who will control the Strait?
- 32:19Speaker 2: That's almost more of a world issue than a U.S.
- 32:21Speaker 2: issue or a Gulf issue. Maybe the Arab countries need
- 32:23Speaker 2: to start hiring some people or developing their own navy
- 32:26Speaker 2: and resources to do it. I don't know. I don't think,
- 32:30Speaker 2: like I've said, when this is all said and done,
- 32:33Speaker 2: I'm for basically just bringing everybody home. from everywhere they
- 32:36Speaker 2: were at, and just disengaging from most of the rest
- 32:38Speaker 2: of the world. Because I don't think it is our
- 32:41Speaker 2: job to be the world policeman anymore. I'm tired of it.
- 32:44Speaker 2: I'm tired of losing American lives. I'm tired of spending
- 32:48Speaker 2: American money. And I'm tired of doing that, and then
- 32:52Speaker 2: the rest of the world still can't stand us. So
- 32:56Speaker 2: just the heck with them. Let Europe worry about Europe
- 32:58Speaker 2: if Putin invades and takes them over. I really don't
- 33:01Speaker 2: care at this point. They almost deserve it because they're
- 33:03Speaker 2: a bunch of... with their arrogance. It's their oil. The
- 33:08Speaker 2: oil that comes out of that Gulf mostly goes to Europe,
- 33:11Speaker 2: and yet they won't lift a finger.
- 33:15Speaker 1: I hear you saying that, but on the other hand,
- 33:19Speaker 1: they say, but you're paying $ 5 a gallon because it's
- 33:21Speaker 1: a global market. So when you say it's only 20%
- 33:25Speaker 1: of the oil and it's their oil, yeah, but look
- 33:28Speaker 1: at what's happening to your price.
- 33:31Speaker 2: Well, because they're sending tankers over here to buy my
- 33:33Speaker 2: oil now. That's the problem. So that's what's driving our
- 33:36Speaker 2: price up. Like I said, through 2016, from I think
- 33:40Speaker 2: it was 1974 to 2016, you couldn't export American oil.
- 33:45Speaker 2: If you just put that law back in, even temporarily,
- 33:47Speaker 2: if you said, well, we're going to do it until
- 33:49Speaker 2: this war ends itself, our price would drop overnight. It
- 33:53Speaker 2: would plummet. And the rest of the world would skyrocket.
- 33:57Speaker 1: Right, but in 1974, we stopped exporting oil. When you say...
- 34:06Speaker 1: I forget what you said about their culture. Would you
- 34:09Speaker 1: say that the caller that called attacking you that said,
- 34:12Speaker 1: you don't understand his situation because you make a lot
- 34:15Speaker 1: more money than he does and the effect this is
- 34:18Speaker 1: having on him. He said, basically, that caller was saying,
- 34:22Speaker 1: you don't understand his culture, his situation in America as
- 34:28Speaker 1: your fellow American.
- 34:31Speaker 2: This isn't the first energy crisis.
- 34:33Speaker 1: No, but he's saying you can weather it much better,
- 34:35Speaker 1: these increase, because you make a lot of money. He's
- 34:38Speaker 1: saying he's just your.
- 34:41Speaker 2: Bag of donuts. I don't have the expenses I used
- 34:43Speaker 2: to have. I'm old. If you look at where the
- 34:46Speaker 2: money comes from, it's mostly with the older people.
- 34:48Speaker 1: He's talking about your income as a pharmacist versus his
- 34:52Speaker 1: as a worker.
- 34:54Speaker 2: And like I said, I emphasize with people. I work
- 34:57Speaker 2: with people who don't make anywhere near the money I
- 34:59Speaker 2: make that are hurting. that they drive every day and
- 35:03Speaker 2: they're paying the $ 4. 50, $ 5 a gallon gas. I don't,
- 35:08Speaker 2: I anymore wonder how people actually are able to live
- 35:12Speaker 2: their lives.
- 35:13Speaker 1: I mean, you know, think of the cost of this.
- 35:19Speaker 1: Think of like, for example, just school systems refilling their
- 35:22Speaker 1: diesel tanks up for their school buses and how much
- 35:25Speaker 1: more that costs. Think about farmers, how much more that costs.
- 35:30Speaker 1: to run those diesel tractors. Think about trucking companies, how
- 35:33Speaker 1: much more that's costing. Think about regular gas, how much
- 35:37Speaker 1: that's costing Amazon to deliver your package or people that
- 35:41Speaker 1: have to drive distances to work and back. This is
- 35:45Speaker 1: an immediate effect. This isn't, oh, it's no big deal.
- 35:49Speaker 1: This is an immediate effect on the economy. And it's
- 35:54Speaker 1: hopefully going to go down.
- 35:56Speaker 2: Well, yeah, and I understand that, but the point is
- 36:00Speaker 2: we're in the middle of this. There's nothing you can
- 36:02Speaker 2: do but to finish it at this point. The fastest
- 36:05Speaker 2: way to get it back down is to finish it
- 36:08Speaker 2: as quickly as you can. You can't go back. The
- 36:11Speaker 2: decision was made to do it. You can armchair quarterback
- 36:15Speaker 2: and second guess all you want. It's over and done with.
- 36:17Speaker 1: Yeah, well, one of the things I thought an interesting
- 36:20Speaker 1: observation for the G2 made is When is Scott going?
- 36:24Speaker 1: He says, well, you better be careful it doesn't finish
- 36:26Speaker 1: Trump's presidency with the midterms.
- 36:30Speaker 2: I think we were in trouble with the midterms anyway.
- 36:34Speaker 1: But the American first agenda and affordability and everything, remember
- 36:38Speaker 1: that was what G2' s biggest concern was, taking your eye
- 36:41Speaker 1: off the ball, affordability, getting prices down. That's what you
- 36:45Speaker 1: were elected on, securing the border. You weren't elected on
- 36:49Speaker 1: this situation you created with Iran. Richard Farmacist taking a
- 36:54Speaker 1: lot of heat today from callers, Richard. They're coming after you.
- 36:57Speaker 2: Take care, Ron.
- 36:58Speaker 1: I'll be back. All right. 570 WKBN. All right. 456
- 37:05Speaker 1: News Radio, 570 WKBN. Ron Furp, Stadium GM in the
- 37:08Speaker 1: heart of Salem. As a customer, I encourage you to
- 37:12Speaker 1: go to a dealership which you just find refreshing, quite frankly.
- 37:15Speaker 1: Mike Hudak runs the operation. Shorty Navarro owns it. It's
- 37:18Speaker 1: not part of some big conglomerate. It isn't. It's locally
- 37:22Speaker 1: owned and operated. It's Stadium GM. They carry all that
- 37:26Speaker 1: General Motors makes. Buick, Cadillac, GMC, Chevrolet under one roof.
- 37:34Speaker 1: So it's all right there, whether you're leasing or buying,
- 37:37Speaker 1: whether you're looking for new or used. And when I
- 37:40Speaker 1: talked to you about in 2017, my wife and daughter
- 37:44Speaker 1: purchased their Cruzes at Stadium GM, we couldn't have been
- 37:46Speaker 1: treated better. And you'll find the same experience. And then
- 37:52Speaker 1: my wife bought a Chevy Equinox this year at Stadium GM.
- 37:56Speaker 1: And it's just such a simple process. They want your business,
- 38:00Speaker 1: they want to keep your business, and they want the
- 38:01Speaker 1: rest of your family's business for generation after generation. It's
- 38:04Speaker 1: always been a philosophy at Stadium GM. And that's how
- 38:06Speaker 1: they treat you from the service departments or the sales departments.
- 38:09Speaker 1: It's just how they run the operation. I think you'll
- 38:12Speaker 1: find it refreshing. If you go online at stadiumgm.com, you
- 38:15Speaker 1: can see all their products, new, used, Carfax reports, fair
- 38:20Speaker 1: pricing on your used cars, trucks, SUVs. So I know
- 38:26Speaker 1: it can be a daunting task. And I know it
- 38:31Speaker 1: can be something that you don't look forward to when
- 38:33Speaker 1: it comes to purchasing your next vehicle. But I think
- 38:36Speaker 1: I can make it a little bit better for you
- 38:39Speaker 1: by sharing with you Stadium GM in the heart of Salem.
- 38:42Speaker 1: The experience that we had as a family that I
- 38:44Speaker 1: think you'll have as a family as well. And how
- 38:49Speaker 1: Mike Hudak runs that operation. And how refreshing you'll find
- 38:53Speaker 1: it to be.
- 38:54Speaker 2: All right?
- 38:55Speaker 1: I think you'll enjoy it. Stadium GM in the heart
- 38:58Speaker 1: of Salem. You're on the air.
- 39:01Speaker 3: Ron, would you like to know what Iran is thinking?
- 39:04Speaker 2: Yes.
- 39:06Speaker 5: I will enlighten you.
- 39:07Speaker 1: Good! They watch..
- 39:10Speaker 3: They watch the same news you and I do. They're
- 39:14Speaker 3: listening to Democrats in our media whine and cry about
- 39:19Speaker 3: the war, and they know that there's that 60-day deadline
- 39:23Speaker 3: that just expired, and if they can just hold out
- 39:26Speaker 3: a little bit longer, Congress is going to make Trump stop.
- 39:30Speaker 3: And then they can go right back to business as usual.
- 39:35Speaker 1: Okay, is that what they're thinking?
- 39:37Speaker 3: That's what they're thinking. And if it gets worse enough..
- 39:41Speaker 1: Stand by. Stand by. Let me do my headlines. I
- 39:43Speaker 1: want to come back and hear more of what you
- 39:45Speaker 1: have to say after this. From ABC News.
- 39:54Speaker 8: I'm Lindsay Davis, anchor of Prime, streaming weeknights on ABC
- 39:58Speaker 8: News Live. President Trump says the war in Iran is
- 40:01Speaker 8: going very well, despite the United Arab Emirates saying it's
- 40:04Speaker 8: been intercepting significant fire from Iran today.
- 40:07Speaker 1: They have no navy, they have no air force, they
- 40:10Speaker 1: have no anti-aircraft equipment. They have no radar. They have
- 40:15Speaker 1: no nothing. They have no leaders, actually.
- 40:17Speaker 8: Increased hostilities have put pressure on an already fragile ceasefire
- 40:20Speaker 8: in the region as the U.S. military begins escorting commercial
- 40:23Speaker 8: ships through the Strait of Hormuz. ABC's Louis Martinez.
- 40:26Speaker 9: The effort here is to provide a defensive shield. And
- 40:28Speaker 9: to that point earlier today, we understand that the United
- 40:32Speaker 9: States military brought down some drones, brought down some cruise missiles.
- 40:36Speaker 9: and destroyed some six small Iranian craft that were targeting
- 40:41Speaker 9: commercial shipping.
- 40:43Speaker 8: It's all put increased pressure on gas prices, with the
- 40:45Speaker 8: average price for a barrel of Brent crude up nearly 6%
- 40:48Speaker 8: today to close at its highest level since the summer
- 40:50Speaker 8: of 2022. And economist Joe Bruce Welles says the increased
- 40:54Speaker 8: fuel costs are just the beginning.
- 40:56Speaker 6: Those increasing gasoline prices cause everything that needs to be
- 40:59Speaker 6: delivered to get more expensive. And guess where it's going
- 41:02Speaker 6: to show up most clearly?
- 41:03Speaker 1: It's going to be in food.
- 41:05Speaker 8: Cole Allen was in court today. He's the California man
- 41:07Speaker 8: accused of trying to assassinate President Trump at the White
- 41:10Speaker 8: House Correspondents Center last month.
- 41:12Speaker 10: This hearing was called by Cole Allen's defense attorneys because
- 41:16Speaker 10: he was put on suicide watch inside California.
- 41:19Speaker 7: These D.C.
- 41:20Speaker 10: Corrections facilities. Now, he was ultimately taken off suicide watch,
- 41:25Speaker 10: but the prosecutor for the government at least said in
- 41:28Speaker 10: court that in his writings that he sent to family
- 41:30Speaker 10: before attempting to carry out that attack, that he made
- 41:33Speaker 10: it seem like he would not survive the attack, noting
- 41:36Speaker 10: that that would be a reason to keep him on
- 41:38Speaker 10: suicide watch.
- 41:39Speaker 8: ABC's Catherine Falders and Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni have
- 41:42Speaker 8: agreed to settle their legal dispute over alleged abuse that
- 41:45Speaker 8: took place on the set of the movie It Ends
- 41:47Speaker 8: With Us. You're listening to to ABC News.
