Good morning and a warm welcome to your show,
• 0:04
Sunny Mornings in Boston. I'm your host, Melissa,
• 0:09
and it's Thursday, June 11th. You'll be interested
• 0:13
to know, 44 years ago, today in 1982, Steven
• 0:19
Spielberg released E .T. the Extraterrestrial,
• 0:23
a warmly told science fiction film about a lonely
• 0:26
boy who befriends a stranded alien. The film's
• 0:30
  emotional storytelling and imaginative design
• 0:32
  transformed family entertainment and inspired
• 0:36
filmmakers to blend wonder with heartfelt character
• 0:39
moments. So now you know. And now, it's time
• 0:44
for the weather report. This morning, there's
• 0:50
patchy fog, and it feels like 72 degrees, with
• 0:54
5 mile per hour wind. The sunset will take place
• 0:58
at 8 .19 and it will rise again tomorrow at 5
• 1:02
.05. It looks like we're in for some patchy fog
• 1:05
early today, clearing by 8 a .m., then a slight
• 1:09
chance of showers and thunderstorms, with mostly
• 1:12
sunny skies and a high near 91, accompanied by
• 1:16
a light west breeze around 7 miles per hour.
• 1:20
If you're inland, it will hit a high of 91. Tonight.
• 1:25
There's a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms
• 1:29
before 7 p .m., then a chance of them between
• 1:31
7 p .m. and midnight, with partly cloudy skies
• 1:36
and a low around 70, while light winds linger
• 1:39
around 4 miles per hour. The near -shore GUI
• 1:43
at Cape Cod Bay reads 58 degrees for the water
• 1:47
temperature. Looking ahead in the weather. Friday
• 1:52
will be mostly sunny with a high near 84 and
• 1:55
a slight chance of afternoon showers or thunderstorms
• 1:58
with north winds around 5 miles per hour. A chance
• 2:02
of showers and thunderstorms continues Friday
• 2:04
night into early Saturday with lows near 65 before
• 2:08
Saturday warms to near 87 under mostly sunny
• 2:12
skies and light north winds. Sunday turns hot
• 2:16
with a high near 92 and breezy southwest winds.
• 2:20
Then a chance of showers returns Sunday night
• 2:22
into Monday with highs dropping to near 86 and
• 2:26
west winds near 9 miles per hour. Bonjour, food
• 2:30
enthusiasts! This podcast is brought to you by
• 2:33
Versailles Café and Pastries in Encinitas. Nestled
• 2:38
on El Camino Real South, just north of Encinitas
• 2:41
Boulevard, this café is a haven for culinary
• 2:45
delights. Indulge in their amazing Eggs Benedict.
• 2:49
or their gluten -free crepes. You can grab a
• 2:53
panini for lunch or just breeze on through to
• 2:56
get your morning coffee. They are open every
• 2:59
day from 8 to 5. So stop on by and don't forget
• 3:03
to tell them. Sunny mornings send you. In local
• 3:08
news, Cape Codders should brace for thunderstorms
• 3:12
and poor air quality on Thursday, according to
• 3:14
the National Weather Service. Scattered showers
• 3:18
and thunderstorms may begin Wednesday night as
• 3:20
a warm front moves into the state, with temperatures
• 3:23
dropping into the mid -60s overnight. An air
• 3:27
quality alert will be in effect on Thursday from
• 3:29
  11 a .m. to 11 p .m. for several counties, including
• 3:33
Norfolk and Bristol, as ground -level ozone is
• 3:36
expected to exceed safe levels. Vulnerable groups
• 3:40
are advised to limit outdoor activities while
• 3:43
the alert is active. Expect mostly sunny skies
• 3:47
on Friday morning, but another round of scattered
• 3:49
showers and thunderstorms is likely Friday evening.
• 3:58
Now on to sports. There is a decent chance the
• 4:02
number 29 is going to be a featured player in
• 4:05
some tattoos for New York Knicks fans after Wednesday.
• 4:09
That was the number their team had to overcome
• 4:11
in Game 4 against the San Antonio Spurs. The
• 4:15
Spurs took an 81 -52 lead against the Knicks.
• 4:20
Instead of the series being tied 2 -2, the Knicks
• 4:23
hold a 3 -1 lead. The number 14 represents the
• 4:27
first half three -pointers the Spurs scored,
• 4:30
the most in Finals history. The Knicks are now
• 4:33
5 -3 when trailing by at least 20 points in the
• 4:36
last two postseasons. This victory was worth
• 4:40
the wait, as it has been 9 ,852 days since the
• 4:45
Knicks' last finals win at Madison Square Garden.
• 4:48
In local sports, the Red Sox are in free fall.
• 4:53
They got swept at Tampa Bay yesterday, dropping
• 4:56
their fourth straight, and now sit at 27 -39,
• 5:00
last place in the AL East. Sadon Raffaella homered
• 5:05
and drove in three. And Caleb Durbin went three
• 5:08
for four with two dingers, but it wasn't enough.
• 5:12
The race drew Rasmussen, shut them down with
• 5:15
seven scoreless innings. Things just got worse.
• 5:20
Garrett Crochet's lat strain is more serious
• 5:23
than thought. The ace has no timeline to return
• 5:27
and likely won't pitch until July. Meanwhile,
• 5:31
rival Giannis are questioning the entire roster
• 5:34
construction. One executive said they're still
• 5:38
confused how Boston thought this lineup would
• 5:40
work differently. The bottom five hitters yesterday
• 5:43
finished sub .700 OPS. The numbers don't lie.
• 5:49
This is the worst June for the Red Sox in 30
• 5:52
years, and they're 12 games under .500 for the
• 5:56
first time since 97. They had a chance to stop
• 6:00
the bleeding tomorrow mag at Fenway against the
• 6:03
Texas Rangers. Sonny Gray takes the mound against
• 6:07
Jack Leiter at 7 -10. A quality start could be
• 6:12
the spark Boston desperately needs. Over in Foxborough,
• 6:17
the Patriots are dealing with injury headaches
• 6:19
heading into training camp. Right tackle Morgan
• 6:22
Moses is out after an OTA injury, leaving rookie
• 6:27
Caleb Loma with unexpected early reps. Tight
• 6:31
end Julian Hill's season is over. forcing the
• 6:35
team to look for death at the position. The bright
• 6:38
spot, Drake May is building chemistry with A
• 6:41
.G. Brown during minicamp. In top news, NASA's
• 6:48
Artemis III mission, launching next year, will
• 6:51
not include any women, a decision that has sparked
• 6:54
  considerable controversy. Alexandra Doden, a
• 6:58
space influencer, stated that having not a single
• 7:01
woman flying on Artemis II is an insane choice.
• 7:05
NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman addressed the
• 7:09
  criticism, noting reactions of disappointment
• 7:11
and outrage. He explained that some astronauts
• 7:15
may have been excluded due to other commitments
• 7:17
or suitability for future missions. The selected
• 7:22
crew includes NASA astronauts Randy Bresnik,
• 7:25
Frank Rubio, and Andre Douglas. along with European
• 7:28
Space Agency astronaut Luca Parmitano. Their
• 7:33
mission aims to test moon landers for Artemis
• 7:35
IV in 2028, with plans to land the first woman
• 7:39
and person of color on the moon. Isaacman emphasized
• 7:43
that crew selection is not influenced by political
• 7:46
appointees and that the agency has 15 active
• 7:49
female astronauts. He also acknowledged that
• 7:53
the all -male crew is a huge blow to many. especially
• 7:56
those inspired by previous female astronauts.
• 8:00
Resnick will lead the mission as commander, with
• 8:03
Parmitano as pilot and Douglas and Rubio as mission
• 8:07
specialists. In business news, when a World Cup
• 8:12
team loses, its country's stock market also goes
• 8:15
down. Here's the weird reason why. Sappers' premier
• 8:20
tournament brings a hidden danger to your investment
• 8:23
portfolio. The World Cup begins this week, and
• 8:26
investors would do well to watch the event from
• 8:29
the stock market's sidelines. Why should investors
• 8:32
care about soccer's premier tournament? Because
• 8:35
historically, stocks do poorly during the World
• 8:38
Cup, particularly during the elimination or knockout
• 8:41
stage. During that stage of the World Cup in
• 8:45
  2022, the Standard & Poor's 500 lost 5 .4%. The
• 8:52
global stock market lost 4 .6%, as judged by
• 8:56
the Vanguard Total World Stock Exchange Traded
• 8:59
Fund. Crucially, these losses were registered
• 9:02
during a strong bull market, according to the
• 9:05
calendar maintained by Ned Davis Research. In
• 9:09
crypto movement, Bitcoin is up 2 % to about $63
• 9:14
  ,000. Ethereum is up 1 % to about $1 ,600. Sarpy
• 9:23
is down 1 % to $1 .12. Moving on to a more local

• 10:16
Let's talk tech. A recent public letter from
• 10:19
Xbox's CDO, Asha Sharma, reveals that current
• 10:23
profit margins cannot continue. As the Summer
• 10:28
Game Fest wraps up, the gaming industry reflects
• 10:30
on both thrilling highs and deeply depressing
• 10:34
lows, including layoffs and studio closures.
• 10:37
The memo highlights that excluding Activision
• 10:41
Blizzard King, Xbox has spent over $20 billion
• 10:44
in five years. Yet revenue has declined nearly
• 10:48
$500 million. The executives admit they are overextended
• 10:53
with their studio acquisitions and face intense
• 10:56
competition for player attention. While layoffs
• 11:00
are not explicitly mentioned, reports suggest
• 11:03
substantial cuts may occur in July. The House
• 11:11
of the Dragon preview had the audience at the
• 11:14
Tormina Film Festival squealing, cheering, and
• 11:17
gasping in their seats. On Wednesday night, cast
• 11:21
members Steve Toussaint, Tom Glincarney, Harry
• 11:24
Collette, Bethany Antonia, and Phoebe Campbell
• 11:27
filled the Ancient Greek Amphitheater, which
• 11:29
holds 5 ,000 people. Creator Ryan Condal sent
• 11:34
a video message calling the location perfect
• 11:37
for the screening. Season 3 continues the bloody
• 11:40
conflict between the House of Targaryen factions,
• 11:43
as Avon too flees and ran your plots for the
• 11:46
crown. Fans responded enthusiastically to the
• 11:50
episode, with cheers and gasps throughout. Well,
• 11:55
alrighty folks, it's time for the quote of the
• 11:58
day. And today, our quote comes from the American
• 12:02
author and motivational speaker, Earl Nightingale.
• 12:06
And he said, All you need is the plan, the roadmap,
• 12:10
and the courage to press on to your destination.
• 12:15
