1:10
Speaker 1: to the Dropping Gem's podcast. I'm your host, Deevie Brown. Welcome, Welcome, Welcome,
1:15
Speaker 1: welcome back, Welcome for the first time, all of the things.
1:19
Speaker 1: Thank you for joining the show. So on this show
1:22
Speaker 1: we aim to really explore higher consciousness for real life.
1:27
Speaker 1: What are all the tools, what are all the ways
1:29
Speaker 1: that we can begin to deepen our spiritual journey and
1:33
Speaker 1: our connectedness to ourselves. Today's show is going to dive
1:38
Speaker 1: so deeply into that. Really really looking forward to sharing
1:43
Speaker 1: today's guests with you. He is in Credit Bull. But first,
1:48
Speaker 1: you know, I think I have been thinking so much
1:51
Speaker 1: about connection. Um. I think the thoughts of connection in
1:56
Speaker 1: general have always been a theme I've explored in my life.
1:59
Speaker 1: I've shared before. I'm only child raised by a single parent.
2:02
Speaker 1: I was a latchkey kid for a lot of my childhood.
2:05
Speaker 1: And what that kind of lends itself to is one
2:09
Speaker 1: being hyper aware of themselves. UM. I think I naturally,
2:13
Speaker 1: I came by being a deeply processed person, honest, being
2:18
Speaker 1: a child that had a lot of time to themselves.
2:23
Speaker 1: Adding the fact that I'm a double Gemini Leo Rising,
2:27
Speaker 1: and my innate nature has always been to be curious
2:31
Speaker 1: about myself and about the world, um, which also meant
2:35
Speaker 1: I've always been deeply curious about my discomforts, my shadows,
2:41
Speaker 1: my pain. Um. And I think that, especially in this
2:44
Speaker 1: last season of life, getting through each of us our
2:50
Speaker 1: understanding of ourselves, but also our our understanding of what
2:53
Speaker 1: it means to be connected. For many of us. It
2:58
Speaker 1: has really expanded in so many new ways and shone
3:03
Speaker 1: light on so many previous ways of being. And so
3:06
Speaker 1: something I feel really grateful for about the pandemic is
3:09
Speaker 1: I feel that I have become even more connected to myself,
3:14
Speaker 1: but specifically a step past being in that hot pursuit
3:19
Speaker 1: of self, and I've become more connected with being inside
3:22
Speaker 1: of my body and what it is to really allow
3:27
Speaker 1: my body to teach me my truths um listening to
3:31
Speaker 1: my breath, listening to myself, and noticing all of the
3:41
Speaker 1: little symbols um, the little sirens, the little nuances of
3:50
Speaker 1: how our bodies speak to ourselves. That's something I've really
3:53
Speaker 1: enjoyed deepening into in that connection with myself in the
3:57
Speaker 1: last year and really just explore in the ways in
4:00
Speaker 1: which I want to continue to connect with people in
4:03
Speaker 1: the world. Something we're starting to think about as the
4:06
Speaker 1: world opens up. A lot of the states and cities
4:08
Speaker 1: are loosening their protocols or expanding spaces. I live in
4:12
Speaker 1: Los Angeles, um in southern California, and we are we're
4:17
Speaker 1: getting ready to get wide open again. I was even
4:20
Speaker 1: exploring how I felt about that, you know, the way
4:23
Speaker 1: that I used to connect with people. How does my
4:25
Speaker 1: heart feel about that in that moment, in this moment currently,
4:29
Speaker 1: you know, this reentry into society. Are we hugging? Are
4:34
Speaker 1: we giving each other bows? Um? You know, what is
4:38
Speaker 1: what is that going to start to feel like as
4:40
Speaker 1: we begin to use these muscles we haven't used in
4:44
Speaker 1: quite a while, you know, in creating space, even for
4:46
Speaker 1: some of the anxiety that's going to come up around that,
4:49
Speaker 1: or some of the relearning. Even our deepest connection, our
4:52
Speaker 1: our deepest connectedness with friends, dynamics have changed. We are
4:57
Speaker 1: new people, were different people. SS of us have died
5:01
Speaker 1: to ourselves as they should, part of night Life's natural
5:05
Speaker 1: processing on this journey. But with that, what does that
5:08
Speaker 1: look like when we come back together with people who
5:12
Speaker 1: knew us in a very particular or specific kind of way,
5:17
Speaker 1: you know, how do we reintroduce ourselves to ourselves, into
5:21
Speaker 1: the world, into society. So those are just some of
5:24
Speaker 1: the thoughts I've been exploring, um and even just noticing
5:29
Speaker 1: feeling so deeply connected to people I've met in the
5:33
Speaker 1: pandemic and how that depth or that connection looks and
5:37
Speaker 1: feels different. So I'm starting some of that, some of
5:41
Speaker 1: that questioning. I'm deepening some of the questions I've already had,
5:43
Speaker 1: and we're going to explore that so much more today.
5:46
Speaker 1: This understanding of connection with others and connection with self
5:51
Speaker 1: as they bring forward just an absolutely incredible human soul.
5:57
Speaker 1: Today's guest is Diego Rez. Diego is a meditator, a writer,
6:03
Speaker 1: and a speaker who is widely known on Instagram and
6:07
Speaker 1: various social media networks through his pen name Young Pueblo Online,
6:13
Speaker 1: he has an audience of over a million people that
6:15
Speaker 1: he reaches through his written works that focus on the
6:18
Speaker 1: reality of self healing, the movement from self love to
6:23
Speaker 1: unconditional love, and the wisdom that comes when we truly
6:27
Speaker 1: work on knowing ourselves. His first book, in Word quickly
6:32
Speaker 1: became a bestseller. His second book, Clarity and Connection, is
6:36
Speaker 1: available for pre order now and it hits stores April.
6:39
Speaker 1: Twe and the name Young Pueblo means young People. It
6:44
Speaker 1: serves to remind Diego of his Ecuadorian roots, his experiences
6:48
Speaker 1: and activism, and that the collective of humanity is in
6:52
Speaker 1: the midst of important growth. Diego's practice of the Pashana
6:58
Speaker 1: has given him a deeper under standing of liberation that
7:01
Speaker 1: inspires his writing. Through writing and speaking. He aims to
7:05
Speaker 1: support the healing of the individual, knowing that when people
7:08
Speaker 1: release their personal burdens, it helps humanity build a global peace. Diego,
7:18
Speaker 1: welcome to the show. Thank you for having me. Debby,
7:21
Speaker 1: I'm so happy to be here. Always it's always such
7:23
Speaker 1: a joy interacting with you. It is such a joy
7:27
Speaker 1: interacting with you. I was able to share with the
7:30
Speaker 1: audience some of your life, some of your beautiful work.
7:33
Speaker 1: Diego and I first had a chance to meet in
7:36
Speaker 1: the midst of the pandemic, which, as I was sharing
7:38
Speaker 1: at the top of the show, I feel like I
7:40
Speaker 1: have really come into some beautiful, deep connections that have
7:45
Speaker 1: just really been virtual in this last year. And Diego
7:50
Speaker 1: and I have beautiful opportunity to have a conversation through
7:54
Speaker 1: Chopra and we did it Instagram Live. And I had
7:57
Speaker 1: already been just um a real deep appreciative lover of
8:03
Speaker 1: your work, and I've been following you on Instagram and
8:06
Speaker 1: your words always moved me, and your language and the
8:10
Speaker 1: lens of perception that you share from it just it
8:13
Speaker 1: was always so deep but so relatable, like justice, really
8:18
Speaker 1: gorgeous divine translation. So when we had a chance to
8:22
Speaker 1: talk on that Chowber Instagram live. It felt so beautiful
8:26
Speaker 1: and I was like, well, I've gotta have him on
8:28
Speaker 1: the podcast. Yeah, thank you so much. And it was
8:31
Speaker 1: funny because after we had our conversation, I was like,
8:34
Speaker 1: does Debbie have a podcast? Because I want to talk
8:36
Speaker 1: to her more and everything everything just aligned so smoothly.
8:41
Speaker 1: So I'm really happy to be here and get to
8:43
Speaker 1: do a part two with you. Oh my gosh, so amazing, Diego.
8:48
Speaker 1: I'd love to start with you know we're coming on,
8:50
Speaker 1: We're coming on the outskirts, I guess of this global pandemic.
8:55
Speaker 1: We're beginning to really create and shift into these new
8:59
Speaker 1: normals for our selves as we're as we're beginning to
9:02
Speaker 1: reflect on what the last year looked and felt like
9:06
Speaker 1: for each of us, What are some of your takeaways?
9:10
Speaker 1: You know, as someone who already had this really spacious,
9:15
Speaker 1: beautiful practice, someone that had already been so deeply investigating
9:19
Speaker 1: themselves and sharing their work, how does how does one
9:23
Speaker 1: like you deepen that or take it a step further
9:26
Speaker 1: or do you what does that look like for you
9:28
Speaker 1: in this moment. It's funny because in some ways it
9:31
Speaker 1: does feel like we're sort of getting closer to the
9:35
Speaker 1: end of the pandemic, but then in other ways, you know,
9:39
Speaker 1: it's still happening. It's happening. People are still getting sick,
9:42
Speaker 1: and it's happening, you know, especially now it's hitting the
9:44
Speaker 1: global South so hard. Um I've had relatives who have
9:48
Speaker 1: been struggling with the coronavirus and Ecuador, and it's just
9:52
Speaker 1: been it's been incredibly It's just tested my family so much.
9:57
Speaker 1: Um So, in some ways, like you know, the part
10:01
Speaker 1: of the storm has passed, but part of the storm
10:03
Speaker 1: is still here. Um So, for me, what it really
10:07
Speaker 1: means is like I'm I'm just really I feel fortunate
10:10
Speaker 1: and grateful not only to be healthy, but to have
10:12
Speaker 1: a practice, to have, you know, to be established in
10:15
Speaker 1: a technique that is just providing the immediate results, to
10:20
Speaker 1: be able to show up for those who need my support,
10:24
Speaker 1: like in my family, and also to not cause myself
10:27
Speaker 1: so much tension, because the struggles are going to keep coming.
10:30
Speaker 1: And that's one thing that is important to realize about,
10:33
Speaker 1: you know, when you want to get really serious with
10:35
Speaker 1: your healing or you want to get really serious about
10:37
Speaker 1: building your mental freedom, is that you're not going to
10:41
Speaker 1: remove all the obstacles in your life. But what you
10:43
Speaker 1: can do is change your mindset. You can decrease the
10:47
Speaker 1: intensities of your reactions, and you can allow more spaciousness
10:51
Speaker 1: so that you're able to feel everything you're feeling, but
10:54
Speaker 1: at the same time not let it bury you and
10:57
Speaker 1: dominate you and control you, so that you can just
11:00
Speaker 1: be with what is and still live your life. Mm hmm.
11:05
Speaker 1: That use of the word dominate felt so powerfully descriptive
11:09
Speaker 1: to what that feeling is when you're wrestling with yourself
11:13
Speaker 1: or when you're not at rest. It's like that that
11:16
Speaker 1: experience of your constantly being pinned down, dominated by these
11:20
Speaker 1: shadows or these you know, pieces that you haven't made
11:24
Speaker 1: peace with yet. I think in this last year, you know,
11:27
Speaker 1: it's really I was really exploring. I mean, I changed
11:33
Speaker 1: completely in this last year in the most like perfect ways, right. Um.
11:40
Speaker 1: But it's interesting because as someone that is always really
11:44
Speaker 1: open to change, my natural state is kind of like
11:48
Speaker 1: deeply curious and open to dying and shedding and changing. Um.
11:54
Speaker 1: But even in the midst of that, having done what
11:56
Speaker 1: I felt like was a substantial amount of self work
11:59
Speaker 1: and of investigation coming into the pandemic for me, it
12:04
Speaker 1: was still as kind of in some moments as raw
12:08
Speaker 1: as like that first dark Knight of the Soul, you know,
12:10
Speaker 1: like those new layers of exploration. And I feel like
12:15
Speaker 1: one of my greatest takeaways in the and how I
12:19
Speaker 1: treat myself in the pandemic was there was this new surrender,
12:24
Speaker 1: but specifically a surrender to joy and a surrender to ease.
12:29
Speaker 1: And I think previously when I was in moments of surrender,
12:33
Speaker 1: it was like I am surrendering to the unknown, or
12:37
Speaker 1: I'm surrendering to my pain. It's too much of a burden.
12:41
Speaker 1: I can't take it. I'm handing it off, you know,
12:43
Speaker 1: to spirit. And now it was like, I am I'm
12:47
Speaker 1: going to surrender, but I'm going to try to surrender
12:50
Speaker 1: it to joy, to count it all joy. I'm gonna
12:53
Speaker 1: surrender it to ease and grace and not even attempt
12:57
Speaker 1: to like fill the space, just be open. Yeah. Yeah,
13:01
Speaker 1: that's beautiful. It's funny because, like, um, what you were
13:04
Speaker 1: saying about the layers, Like I've been having this such
13:08
Speaker 1: strong imagery in my mind of how much we're like onions,
13:13
Speaker 1: you know, like we have so many layers. And even
13:17
Speaker 1: in the process of like cutting an onion while you're like,
13:20
Speaker 1: you know, literally chopping it up and you start, you know,
13:23
Speaker 1: you feel like you're crying because like all of the
13:25
Speaker 1: you know, whatever is in the air. But that process
13:29
Speaker 1: of just peeling back all those layers and just you know,
13:33
Speaker 1: I like the way you're using the word surrender. I
13:34
Speaker 1: often just use the word acceptance. Um, it's just like
13:37
Speaker 1: a profound acceptance of the fact that going inward, allowing
13:41
Speaker 1: myself to feel everything that is happening, it's just difficult.
13:45
Speaker 1: It's it's not easy. You know, people expect that it's like, oh, one,
13:48
Speaker 1: is it going to get really really easy, But the
13:50
Speaker 1: reality is that it's you keep going back because it's
13:54
Speaker 1: rewarding because there is a benefit, right, and that's something
13:58
Speaker 1: that it just it strikes me as like, Okay, why
14:02
Speaker 1: you know, why do I keep going back to these
14:04
Speaker 1: retreats that are so difficult, and why do I keep like,
14:06
Speaker 1: you know, putting myself in this position where it's like, yeah,
14:09
Speaker 1: I want to develop my freedom, but to do so,
14:12
Speaker 1: like I need to go deeper and I need to
14:14
Speaker 1: find out where is the root of this tension coming
14:16
Speaker 1: from and where, um, like, how much better can I
14:20
Speaker 1: love myself and how much better can I allow like
14:24
Speaker 1: love and wisdom to just become this one thing um
14:30
Speaker 1: within me so that I can really like allow my
14:34
Speaker 1: interer peace to flourish, because it's I think it's through
14:36
Speaker 1: wisdom that interpeace flourishes. Yeah, Oh my gosh, can we
14:41
Speaker 1: sit in that for a second, like even just right now,
14:44
Speaker 1: that that visualization of love and wisdom kind of hugging
14:49
Speaker 1: themselves inside of our bodies. That felt so good? How
14:55
Speaker 1: does that? How has your practice supported you in that union,
15:02
Speaker 1: in that integration and merger inside of yourself? I know
15:06
Speaker 1: you practice a very specialized version of meditation. Yeah, yeah,
15:09
Speaker 1: I practice vipasana, vipasan and the tradition of s. M. Guanca.
15:13
Speaker 1: He's a um, a Burmese man of Indian descent, and
15:17
Speaker 1: he's carrying this like really old lineage forward Um that
15:21
Speaker 1: originates from the teachings of the Buddha Um so you know,
15:25
Speaker 1: talking to two thousands, six hundred years um. But it's
15:30
Speaker 1: it's a funny question because I find that right, like
15:33
Speaker 1: the practice, what we're doing is just observing the law
15:36
Speaker 1: of nature within the body, and you're doing that through
15:40
Speaker 1: the medium of impermanence. You're like literally observing and feeling
15:43
Speaker 1: the changes that are happening in the body. UM. But
15:45
Speaker 1: when you're able to really deeply observe, you find that
15:50
Speaker 1: the moment that you start really interacting with that wisdom
15:55
Speaker 1: of impermanence, because impermanence is like it's a door, Like
15:59
Speaker 1: you open that door and you're if you're able to
16:02
Speaker 1: really not only understand impermanence intellectually, but feel the truth
16:07
Speaker 1: of impermanence, that opens the door to so much insight,
16:10
Speaker 1: to so much wisdom, and you find that that wisdom
16:14
Speaker 1: has a very powerful purifying effect on the mind, and
16:17
Speaker 1: then it allows this love that is actually already within
16:21
Speaker 1: your mind, but it's covered up because you know, you've
16:24
Speaker 1: accumulated so many imprints throughout your life and you've um
16:28
Speaker 1: you know, you've almost like you're carrying all these like
16:30
Speaker 1: kind of like impurities that are just burdening and kind
16:34
Speaker 1: of slowing down your innate ability to be creative, to
16:38
Speaker 1: be loving, to to have a full access to your
16:44
Speaker 1: really your power um. And it's it's just so interesting
16:48
Speaker 1: seeing that connection between impermanence. It opens that door to wisdom,
16:54
Speaker 1: and wisdom just opens this door to bound to full love.
16:58
Speaker 1: M m mm hmm. Your first book that you released
17:02
Speaker 1: in two thousand seventeen, Inward, it explored the beautiful movement
17:07
Speaker 1: from self love into unconditional love. It really explored letting
17:12
Speaker 1: go and the wisdom of knowing oneself inward. How, how
17:18
Speaker 1: would you share with listeners of this show how to
17:22
Speaker 1: really even begin those steps inward? What does that beginning
17:26
Speaker 1: place of the journey look like? That's a good question,
17:29
Speaker 1: I think for me. You know, it started even before meditation. UM,
17:34
Speaker 1: when I first kind of hit my personal rock bottom
17:38
Speaker 1: and I realized I was like, Okay, whoa, I need
17:41
Speaker 1: to do something about all this tension that is just
17:44
Speaker 1: controlling my actions. This like constant, endless pursuit of pleasure
17:49
Speaker 1: that is leading me nowhere. Um. I developed such bad habits.
17:54
Speaker 1: But it the moment that I was able to just
17:59
Speaker 1: take that first step inward was when I allowed my
18:04
Speaker 1: courage to just take this deeper step into radical honesty. UM.
18:11
Speaker 1: The moment that I was able to because I realized,
18:13
Speaker 1: I'm like, Okay, well how did I get here? How
18:15
Speaker 1: did I get to this point where I had developed
18:17
Speaker 1: such bad habits and had just um been on this
18:23
Speaker 1: It was just like, um, constant externalizing where like I
18:27
Speaker 1: couldn't be alone, um, where I had to be like
18:30
Speaker 1: surrounded by people, friends, or just keeping myself busy on
18:35
Speaker 1: the outside so I wouldn't have to spend time on
18:37
Speaker 1: the inside, and that oftentimes, you know, I would end
18:41
Speaker 1: up just like going to a lot of parties. I
18:43
Speaker 1: would be always you know, spend a lot of time
18:45
Speaker 1: drinking and smoking and and just consuming different drugs so
18:49
Speaker 1: that my mind was always filled and my body was
18:53
Speaker 1: always filled with a sensation of pleasure, so that I
18:55
Speaker 1: wouldn't have to spend time acknowledging the pain that kept
18:59
Speaker 1: coming up. Um. But it was when I, you know,
19:04
Speaker 1: recognize that, Okay, I had spent so much time lying
19:06
Speaker 1: to myself, like I didn't want to admit that I
19:08
Speaker 1: was sad. I didn't want to admit that I was
19:10
Speaker 1: so riddled with anxiety. But the shift came when I
19:15
Speaker 1: like hit that rock bottom and I saw, like how
19:17
Speaker 1: did I get here? It was through line How can
19:19
Speaker 1: I get out of here? Through radical honesty? Mm hm Wow.
19:29
Speaker 1: When you began to come back into yourself, when you
19:34
Speaker 1: began that journey home, but you were still with all
19:38
Speaker 1: the people you had known that you had been partying
19:40
Speaker 1: with and pleasuring with um and experiencing you know, I
19:45
Speaker 1: think that that piece is what is typically a scary
19:49
Speaker 1: piece for people and what can keep a lot of
19:51
Speaker 1: people from themselves. Like you just beautifully illustrated that anything
19:55
Speaker 1: can be made into a tool of avoidance, party being, drugs, pleasure.
20:00
Speaker 1: We can use God as a tool of avoidance, we
20:02
Speaker 1: can use religion as a tool of avoidance. It's all
20:05
Speaker 1: can be used for in a multitude of ways. Um.
20:09
Speaker 1: But you know, often I think the piece that keeps
20:11
Speaker 1: people from going even further or gives them this like
20:14
Speaker 1: perceived capra limit is how they're noticing their growth and
20:19
Speaker 1: healing is perhaps maybe triggering or mirroring other people. So
20:23
Speaker 1: how did you begin that integration after you went inward
20:28
Speaker 1: and begun that dialogue to still be able to be
20:32
Speaker 1: with the people in your life in whatever capacity you were. Yeah,
20:36
Speaker 1: It's it's funny because um uh, a lot of those
20:41
Speaker 1: friends that I had back then in like twenty eleven
20:46
Speaker 1: when I hit my rock bottom, like they're still my
20:50
Speaker 1: friends and I love them so much. Um and you know,
20:55
Speaker 1: we all we I mean we've all gone through like
20:57
Speaker 1: pretty big transformations, Like not all of them are meditators
21:00
Speaker 1: or anything like that. But but a lot of us
21:03
Speaker 1: had to clean up our act and you know, and
21:05
Speaker 1: we had to find ways to help ourselves. You know,
21:08
Speaker 1: Like my thing was meditation. I have a lot of
21:10
Speaker 1: friends that do one on one therapy and have had
21:13
Speaker 1: immense you know, I've gotten so much benefit from that. Um.
21:16
Speaker 1: But I think for me, it was like being able
21:20
Speaker 1: to stand in my truth and like really allow my
21:24
Speaker 1: courage to just like take on this challenge of like, Okay,
21:28
Speaker 1: like I don't want to you know, I don't want
21:29
Speaker 1: to drink anymore. I'm done with it. And but I'm
21:32
Speaker 1: you know, I'm still going to go to like the events,
21:35
Speaker 1: you know, friends, birthday parties and all of that stuff.
21:37
Speaker 1: And for a while I did feel like a little
21:40
Speaker 1: bit of a need to just not do those things
21:41
Speaker 1: as much because I needed time to build strength in myself,
21:44
Speaker 1: to build strength in my new habits. And it was
21:49
Speaker 1: um I was supported by the fact that my wife
21:53
Speaker 1: also wanted to take on this same journey, and she
21:56
Speaker 1: also was like, you know what, I'm done with this
21:57
Speaker 1: stuff too, So we were a team. We're together in this.
22:01
Speaker 1: And and then when we you know, would go to
22:04
Speaker 1: friends birthday parties or go to you know, whatever gatherings.
22:08
Speaker 1: It would just it would be fine. Like literally, my
22:11
Speaker 1: my my friends all knew and I told them like, yeah,
22:14
Speaker 1: I'm pretty serious about this, and I feel a lot better.
22:16
Speaker 1: So I don't want to give up feeling better to
22:17
Speaker 1: feel crappy. So I, um, you know, we would all
22:22
Speaker 1: have drinks in our hands, except my drink was like
22:25
Speaker 1: water or sprite or something like that, and it was
22:28
Speaker 1: totally fine. It was funny because I felt like I
22:31
Speaker 1: actually felt a lot more attention thinking about like, oh,
22:34
Speaker 1: how would they react to me doing this? And in reality,
22:37
Speaker 1: they were like pretty chill about it. Um. So I
22:40
Speaker 1: was fortunate to have such a supportive group of friends. Yeah,
22:45
Speaker 1: and I'm hearing too, you know, for those listening that
22:48
Speaker 1: may not be able to relate to having that kind
22:50
Speaker 1: of strong structure of community, I'm really just hearing that
22:53
Speaker 1: the the way is to stand even more deeply inside
22:58
Speaker 1: of yourself and as well as you're in your truth
23:01
Speaker 1: and in your integrity. Um, I do find that the
23:04
Speaker 1: universe will bend to your will. You know, like when
23:06
Speaker 1: you're coming in a space of really highest vision, highest self,
23:12
Speaker 1: highest timeline, you start to notice that you're not having
23:16
Speaker 1: to have these really challenging conversations about I'm growing and
23:20
Speaker 1: I want to grow, and you know, it's kind of
23:22
Speaker 1: like the universe is naturally bending and supporting with ease
23:27
Speaker 1: um and also creating new pathways and avenues to maybe
23:30
Speaker 1: new groups of people. If you're your system is not
23:33
Speaker 1: feeling is nourishing, it's funny because um, and there's also
23:37
Speaker 1: like just a bunch of little things that you can do.
23:39
Speaker 1: You know, Like, after a while, I recognized that I
23:42
Speaker 1: was tired of having to explain to people that I
23:45
Speaker 1: was like, oh, I don't I don't drink anymore, so
23:47
Speaker 1: like but then I have to like tell the story
23:49
Speaker 1: or something. But then, you know, it would be common
23:52
Speaker 1: you meet friends of friends and then you know, one
23:54
Speaker 1: of the ways that they're trying to show kindnesses, they're
23:56
Speaker 1: trying to give you a drink and then and then
23:58
Speaker 1: but my quick response was I'm good right now, you know.
24:02
Speaker 1: And then it's like I'm not lying, but I also don't.
24:05
Speaker 1: I don't need to tell you my whole truth in
24:06
Speaker 1: this money, and like little ticks like that became so
24:10
Speaker 1: useful because it was like, yeah, you know, like I'm
24:12
Speaker 1: still out here, but I want to be out here
24:14
Speaker 1: in my way and I want to live my values. Yeah,
24:18
Speaker 1: I love that. The thing that came to me is like, yeah,
24:21
Speaker 1: every time I'm out and I'm like, well, I barely
24:24
Speaker 1: even remember being out out. You know, if I was like, oh, no,
24:30
Speaker 1: I don't want to drink, then I'll be like, oh
24:32
Speaker 1: are you sober? Are you probably? And it's like, well
24:36
Speaker 1: maybe maybe not, Like I don't know, it doesn't have
24:38
Speaker 1: to be the super soul Sunday just for me not
24:41
Speaker 1: to have this to keep right now. And it's and
24:44
Speaker 1: it's funny too, because I think that's something that I
24:46
Speaker 1: really try to talk about a little more often, is
24:48
Speaker 1: that when you want to go into this world of
24:52
Speaker 1: healing and personal transformation, you want to take your own
24:55
Speaker 1: journey seriously, Like you don't have to be like, it
24:58
Speaker 1: doesn't have to be a bottom moment that ignites you
25:01
Speaker 1: into this world, because like I think I hit I
25:05
Speaker 1: hit my rock bottom, but my wife totally never you know,
25:08
Speaker 1: she didn't hit rock bottom. She just what inspired her
25:11
Speaker 1: to do this work was that she realized she could
25:15
Speaker 1: be a little happier, right, She could be she could
25:18
Speaker 1: be a little less tense, she could have a little
25:19
Speaker 1: less anxiety. She could like figure out new rhythms to
25:23
Speaker 1: deal with her patterns. And and I think that it's
25:26
Speaker 1: like can really be for anybody, because I feel like
25:29
Speaker 1: healing is for anyone. Like whether you've experienced serious trauma
25:32
Speaker 1: or not, you have definitely felt very strong emotions, and
25:36
Speaker 1: those very strong emotions leave imprints on your mind. So
25:40
Speaker 1: any of us, you know, we can recognize parts of
25:43
Speaker 1: ourselves where we could, you know, just improve in these
25:47
Speaker 1: small ways and let go of some old thing that
25:49
Speaker 1: we're caring so that we can live better lives. Hold
25:54
Speaker 1: that thought, we are coming right back. I'm so grateful
26:12
Speaker 1: you just shared that. Thank you for that permission. What
26:15
Speaker 1: really struck me was I had a comment that someone
26:18
Speaker 1: actually sent me on Instagram today that I feel really
26:23
Speaker 1: connects to this, and it was kind of like, well,
26:25
Speaker 1: I'm I'm struggling with the idea of being on a
26:27
Speaker 1: spiritual journey because that that's such a privilege. To be
26:31
Speaker 1: able to be on one is such a privilege. And
26:33
Speaker 1: then they said, you know, um, if I didn't have,
26:37
Speaker 1: you know, a life that was that challenging and whatever
26:40
Speaker 1: this pain hierarchy I think they had in their minds was,
26:44
Speaker 1: you know, should I be on a spiritual journey? And
26:47
Speaker 1: it's like, well, this is this is our birthright, Like
26:49
Speaker 1: this in my mind, this is the entire point of
26:52
Speaker 1: human existence. It is the remembrance of your soul and
26:56
Speaker 1: of yourself in that connection to divine source. And there
26:58
Speaker 1: is no you know, everybody's tent is their tent. Yeah, right,
27:04
Speaker 1: so it's yeah, some trauma, some trauma is is so
27:08
Speaker 1: significant that it's often even unspeakable inn you know, but
27:15
Speaker 1: each of us has whatever our maximum of what we've
27:19
Speaker 1: experienced is. And the pain is the same, the hurt,
27:23
Speaker 1: the lostness, the isolation is the same. What I'm hoping
27:27
Speaker 1: changes over the next few years is the same way
27:31
Speaker 1: that we see the importance of like going out in
27:35
Speaker 1: the streets, protesting, like literally moving together as human beings
27:39
Speaker 1: to create a better world. We need to bring that
27:42
Speaker 1: same type of energy into our like individual and group
27:46
Speaker 1: healing sessions, because you have to understand that this work,
27:50
Speaker 1: like they're totally mutually supportive. Like if if if more
27:55
Speaker 1: of us are able to heal ourselves, then more of
27:58
Speaker 1: us are going to have the courage to go out
27:59
Speaker 1: in the streets and the courage to speak up and
28:01
Speaker 1: be like Okay, like you know, we need to do
28:04
Speaker 1: something about racism, we need to do something about patriarchy,
28:06
Speaker 1: we need to do something about like global poverty. There
28:09
Speaker 1: there are ways that we can support humanity in much
28:12
Speaker 1: deeper ways. But the way to be able to get
28:15
Speaker 1: that courage to activate it is by going deeper and
28:19
Speaker 1: doing your own personal work and doing your own healing work.
28:21
Speaker 1: Because where do you think the compassion comes from the
28:24
Speaker 1: Compassion that you're going to have for other people comes
28:26
Speaker 1: from you understanding yourself better, because then you're going to
28:29
Speaker 1: see the patterns that I'm working with, the struggle that
28:33
Speaker 1: I'm having in my mind, someone else is having it too.
28:36
Speaker 1: And if you're able to build more self love and yourself,
28:40
Speaker 1: it's just gonna make you so much less likely to
28:43
Speaker 1: harm other people. So the value of inner work, I
28:46
Speaker 1: think it can definitely be seen from some perspectives. It's like, oh,
28:49
Speaker 1: you know, you need to have some degree of of
28:52
Speaker 1: life stability to be able to do it. But so
28:55
Speaker 1: let's let's heal society so that everyone can have that
28:58
Speaker 1: stability so they can do our work because we need it,
29:02
Speaker 1: you know. Yeah, Yeah, And the work is also what
29:06
Speaker 1: informs the stability. You know. I think at whatever area
29:10
Speaker 1: you're able to begin, it's enough and it's perfect for
29:13
Speaker 1: wherever you're at, and it's that slow build upon and
29:16
Speaker 1: eventually you find yourself with this really vast foundation that
29:22
Speaker 1: feels so unshakable and so unmovable, and then you build
29:25
Speaker 1: higher from there. But it really starts with the roots.
29:28
Speaker 1: How can we start planting our roots? Can we start
29:31
Speaker 1: stretching them down into that Earth's crust, letting the tree
29:34
Speaker 1: you rise in the sky. So your your second book
29:41
Speaker 1: comes out April seven. It's available order right now though,
29:45
Speaker 1: so you guys don't miss the chance to just have
29:48
Speaker 1: it blissfully arrive at your doorstep. Don't think about it,
29:51
Speaker 1: pre order it today. Um. Clarity and Connection, The new
29:57
Speaker 1: book focuses on having clarity of mind to help, but
30:00
Speaker 1: more deeply connect with others, which I think speaks so
30:03
Speaker 1: powerfully to everything that you've just shared. Human connection is
30:07
Speaker 1: now probably more important than ever understatement, Um, what messages
30:12
Speaker 1: with this book, diego? What are you hoping to share
30:14
Speaker 1: with the world with these messages of clarity and connection? Yeah,
30:18
Speaker 1: thank you for that that very clear question. I am
30:22
Speaker 1: what I'm hoping to really do with this book is
30:25
Speaker 1: like tie in the fact that once you really get
30:29
Speaker 1: serious about your personal transformation, one of the immediate benefits
30:34
Speaker 1: of that is that you're going to be able to
30:35
Speaker 1: connect with others deeply and in particular, like I try
30:39
Speaker 1: to hone in on friendships and like intimate relationships and
30:44
Speaker 1: show how you know, of course, like you're the two
30:47
Speaker 1: of you are not perfect, and but there is this
30:52
Speaker 1: possibility for a deeper connection if you both take your
30:55
Speaker 1: inner work seriously and trying to show that they're are
31:00
Speaker 1: just so many different ways that we can have better communication,
31:04
Speaker 1: that we can develop voluntary commitments so that we can
31:08
Speaker 1: support each other, and that in all around we can
31:11
Speaker 1: support each other in the ups and downs. Um. So
31:14
Speaker 1: it's it's funny because I think the book is set
31:16
Speaker 1: up so that whether you're in a relationship or not,
31:19
Speaker 1: you'll find a lot of value in it. And it's
31:22
Speaker 1: really just it's for anybody who's going through a personal
31:25
Speaker 1: transformation journey and through that you know you're going to
31:30
Speaker 1: be able to find that your connections would just get
31:33
Speaker 1: so much more profound if you're able to just know
31:36
Speaker 1: yourself and love yourself better. I love that so much.
31:41
Speaker 1: My God, is that true? How you know you were?
31:44
Speaker 1: It's really so beautiful when you speak to you and
31:48
Speaker 1: your wife both being on this journey and the fact
31:50
Speaker 1: that you already had this harmony with one another and
31:53
Speaker 1: this deep love with each other, and then you started
31:56
Speaker 1: really a completely different, whole new life together. Even now
31:59
Speaker 1: you know you shared in your background, you guys are
32:01
Speaker 1: now kind of more in the wilderness. You know, you
32:06
Speaker 1: left city life during the pandemic. That's something we talked
32:09
Speaker 1: about on our Instagram lives, and you know you're really
32:13
Speaker 1: connecting with nature right now. What, like, what does that
32:17
Speaker 1: look and feel like? Like that? I I don't know
32:19
Speaker 1: what that experience is like. I think a lot of
32:22
Speaker 1: us probably don't, you know, But it's so beautiful to
32:26
Speaker 1: know that that is available to us. I think a
32:29
Speaker 1: lot of people assume that when they choose themselves or
32:32
Speaker 1: when they go on a journey of self, it means
32:34
Speaker 1: they have to leave everyone and everything behind. And for
32:37
Speaker 1: a lot of people, I think they think it means
32:39
Speaker 1: they may even have to leave their relationship, the romantic relationship.
32:44
Speaker 1: How what are the changes that you've seen, Like, what
32:46
Speaker 1: are some of the new things you enjoy about your
32:49
Speaker 1: dynamic both being on this beautiful journey. I think, um,
32:55
Speaker 1: you know one thing I definitely want to put out
32:57
Speaker 1: there was that my like my wife and I we've
33:00
Speaker 1: been together for a long time, and we got together
33:04
Speaker 1: when she was eighteen and I was nineteen, um, while
33:07
Speaker 1: we were in college. But our relationship was pretty chaotic
33:11
Speaker 1: up until we started meditating. And we started meditating when
33:16
Speaker 1: like I, I did my first course when I was
33:17
Speaker 1: twenty four and she did her first course when she
33:19
Speaker 1: was twenty three. Um. So it was like we were
33:23
Speaker 1: barely hanging in there. Um. But over time, as we
33:30
Speaker 1: kept like digging deeper into the practice, getting established in
33:33
Speaker 1: the practice, bringing the practice home so that we were
33:35
Speaker 1: meditating daily, what we saw was this like renaissance in
33:39
Speaker 1: our relationship, you know, because the connection was always there,
33:42
Speaker 1: The connection was was always strong, but were we ready
33:46
Speaker 1: to build what did we have? Emotional maturity? Now, we
33:48
Speaker 1: didn't have any of those things. Um. So once we
33:52
Speaker 1: started meditating and we started even building these like small
33:55
Speaker 1: degrees of self awareness, it allowed for such a release
34:00
Speaker 1: of tension in our relationship because we weren't always blaming
34:03
Speaker 1: each other anymore because oftentimes we don't realize how quickly,
34:06
Speaker 1: you'll you know, you'll wake up or something will happen
34:08
Speaker 1: at work, and then you have this tension, and then
34:11
Speaker 1: you want to fuel that tension even more by blaming
34:13
Speaker 1: someone else for something that they had nothing to do with. Um.
34:17
Speaker 1: So it's so easy to just constantly be on this
34:20
Speaker 1: mode of survival and projection where it's like it's your fault,
34:23
Speaker 1: it's your fault, you you need to change, you need
34:25
Speaker 1: to change. But it's like, no, I need to change,
34:27
Speaker 1: like my like my perception is causing me the most harm,
34:31
Speaker 1: my perception and my reactions. So if I'm able to
34:34
Speaker 1: deal with them and then you're also simultaneously dealing with yours,
34:38
Speaker 1: then whenever we do have disagreements or any type of conflict,
34:42
Speaker 1: we're gonna be able to deal with it in such
34:44
Speaker 1: a calmer way, in a much more honest way, where
34:46
Speaker 1: it's like, Okay, this is what I can do for us,
34:49
Speaker 1: and now what can you do for us? And how
34:51
Speaker 1: can we find a proper middle ground so that we
34:54
Speaker 1: can move forward? But um, but it took a long
34:56
Speaker 1: time to get to this place where you know, we
34:59
Speaker 1: have a harmony that we're both adding to by just
35:03
Speaker 1: like continuing building our own individual personal harmonies. Oh I
35:08
Speaker 1: love that. That's really, really, really really beautiful. There's a
35:13
Speaker 1: quote of yours that I'm going to share right now
35:15
Speaker 1: that I love so much that I think really speaks
35:17
Speaker 1: to this, and it's love will not seek to change you.
35:21
Speaker 1: It will embrace you so unconditionally that you will feel
35:24
Speaker 1: safe enough to heal the old and put effort into
35:28
Speaker 1: the new. M Can you say that in your voice?
35:35
Speaker 1: Can remember your quoting? I gotta say that one more
35:38
Speaker 1: time for everyone, just wherever you are, as long as
35:42
Speaker 1: you're not driving, take a moment. I want you to
35:44
Speaker 1: gently close your eyes, and I want you to let
35:46
Speaker 1: these words really wrap themselves around your heart. Love will
35:52
Speaker 1: not seek to change you. It will embrace you so
35:58
Speaker 1: unconditionally that you will feel safe enough to heal the
36:03
Speaker 1: old and put effort into the new. Wow, I'm so
36:08
Speaker 1: I'm so glad that you connect with that one so much, because, um,
36:14
Speaker 1: I really like put my foot down on that quote,
36:16
Speaker 1: and um my editor was thinking about changing that one
36:20
Speaker 1: a little bit and it was going to turn out
36:23
Speaker 1: a little differently, but I was like, nah, I was like,
36:25
Speaker 1: we gotta just let's just give it to it. Let's
36:27
Speaker 1: just put it out there raw the way it came out. UM.
36:30
Speaker 1: So I'm glad you're connecting with that one how And
36:35
Speaker 1: I know this will really fall under acceptance, but I
36:38
Speaker 1: would love any reflections that you have towards this, UM
36:42
Speaker 1: for our listeners. How do you encourage the people that
36:46
Speaker 1: you love to grow without having this strong connection to
36:52
Speaker 1: the ways in which you want them to change? Oh? Yeah,
36:55
Speaker 1: the strong attachments because connect action feeds, but attachment takes.
37:01
Speaker 1: UM and yeah, and I think, UM, it's you know,
37:08
Speaker 1: you really just have one option. And loud Suit pointed
37:11
Speaker 1: this out thousands of years ago. UM, but all you
37:14
Speaker 1: can really do is change yourself and model your behavior
37:18
Speaker 1: and then others will hopefully follow suit, you know. UM,
37:25
Speaker 1: And I found that. I think there have been different
37:27
Speaker 1: moments in our relationship, just between my wife and I
37:30
Speaker 1: were you know, we both like modeled patients for each
37:34
Speaker 1: other because I like, UM. For example, I started meditating
37:39
Speaker 1: two hours a day before she did, and she wasn't
37:43
Speaker 1: ready to And I wasn't like, oh, you have to
37:45
Speaker 1: do this with me, nothing like that. You know, that's
37:47
Speaker 1: something that just comes on your own time. But I kept,
37:50
Speaker 1: I kept like, you know, I stuck to what I
37:51
Speaker 1: wanted to do, and I didn't no matter what. And
37:54
Speaker 1: then after like nine months, she was like, oh, like,
37:56
Speaker 1: you know, I want to do this too. Um I
37:58
Speaker 1: I see the value in it. And similarly, um she
38:03
Speaker 1: was done, like she was done smoking um weed before
38:09
Speaker 1: I was. And I remember I was like, I wanted
38:13
Speaker 1: to give it up, but it was just I was
38:14
Speaker 1: a little slower, you know, I was. I was a
38:16
Speaker 1: little slower with it, and and she was so patient
38:20
Speaker 1: with me. You know, she didn't look down on me,
38:22
Speaker 1: she wasn't judging me. She let me do my thing.
38:24
Speaker 1: And then like a few months passed and I was like, oh,
38:26
Speaker 1: I was like, hey, I have enough mental strength now
38:28
Speaker 1: to just let it go because and it's nothing. You know,
38:31
Speaker 1: people people do whatever they want. But like for me personally,
38:34
Speaker 1: I felt that it was it was just weighing me down.
38:36
Speaker 1: It wasn't serving me the way it was serving me before. UM.
38:40
Speaker 1: But being able to like, you know, have that patience
38:44
Speaker 1: for her and then her have that patience for me,
38:46
Speaker 1: it just it made u a It made a world
38:49
Speaker 1: of a difference for the both of us and just
38:51
Speaker 1: like allowed us to have our own space to grow
38:54
Speaker 1: at different speeds because That's one thing that I tried
38:56
Speaker 1: to write about in the book too, is like recognize
38:59
Speaker 1: that you know, you're not going to grow at the
39:01
Speaker 1: same rate, like especially because even though we may be
39:05
Speaker 1: so close or even with your friends, like you may
39:07
Speaker 1: be such a strong unit, but the conditioning that each
39:11
Speaker 1: of you have is incredibly unique. So even the tools
39:15
Speaker 1: that you may use to heal yourselves, they're not necessarily
39:18
Speaker 1: going to be the same because to eat, you know,
39:20
Speaker 1: each person is carrying a very unique emotional history, and
39:23
Speaker 1: that emotional history needs very careful tending. Mm hmm. I
39:30
Speaker 1: love the way you just started that that history needs
39:33
Speaker 1: very careful tending. I love even you know, something I
39:38
Speaker 1: try strive to really encourage a lot is like deepening
39:40
Speaker 1: our emotional language. And how just how gorgeous that is
39:45
Speaker 1: for each of us, in and our freedom and our
39:47
Speaker 1: personal liberation, and in our ability to extend compassion to others.
39:51
Speaker 1: And so I especially love your usage of tending because
39:55
Speaker 1: I think of my practice for me as me really
39:59
Speaker 1: tending to myself, like really, you know, treating myself with
40:04
Speaker 1: a certain amount. What I hear in that word of
40:06
Speaker 1: tending to there really is a certain amount of care,
40:10
Speaker 1: this certain amount of sacredness and holiness to that this
40:14
Speaker 1: like softness but constant um not pressure, but this softness
40:22
Speaker 1: yet constant action towards I love it too, because it's
40:26
Speaker 1: kind of like tending a garden, and that, you know,
40:29
Speaker 1: that was one of the reasons why, Like, I'm such
40:31
Speaker 1: a city boy, and um, I grew up in Boston
40:33
Speaker 1: and then I just spent seven years in New York
40:36
Speaker 1: and so from one city to another. But I always
40:41
Speaker 1: in the back of mind, I was like, I need
40:43
Speaker 1: to spend some time in nature because I've never done
40:45
Speaker 1: that before. Um. But one of the big draws was
40:48
Speaker 1: like being able to have a big garden. Um, so
40:51
Speaker 1: I'm super pumped for the summer to just be spending
40:54
Speaker 1: so much time tending the garden inside and out. I
40:59
Speaker 1: love that my son and I started a garden in
41:01
Speaker 1: the pandemic and we just brought in our hall of tomatoes,
41:05
Speaker 1: and yesterday our strawberries came in. And it felt so
41:10
Speaker 1: rewarding to have like my dirty soil cover holding these juicy,
41:16
Speaker 1: juicy strawberries that were like a color of red I'd
41:20
Speaker 1: never seen in a store. And it's just it filled
41:23
Speaker 1: me with joy, just overflowed me. With joy. I love
41:28
Speaker 1: it so much too, you know. Just going on the
41:30
Speaker 1: topic of gardening, like I've been thinking so much about
41:33
Speaker 1: slow productivity and like just really bringing that into my
41:37
Speaker 1: work life, even though it's so hard and I have
41:39
Speaker 1: to like push back on people, um who just like
41:43
Speaker 1: you know, they want things to be so quick, so fast,
41:46
Speaker 1: more and more and more now now now, um, And
41:49
Speaker 1: I realized, like I can't live my life like that,
41:51
Speaker 1: you know, I actually need to be way more intentional
41:54
Speaker 1: and be really you know, choose carefully the projects that
41:59
Speaker 1: I'm going to fully commit to so that I can
42:02
Speaker 1: give them my all and I can do my best
42:04
Speaker 1: with them as opposed to like spreading myself thin and
42:08
Speaker 1: you know, just following like a hyper like capitalistic mode
42:11
Speaker 1: of like I'm just going to produce as much as possible.
42:14
Speaker 1: And but that slow productivity of like you know, when
42:18
Speaker 1: you're tending a garden, like you're not the seeds take
42:21
Speaker 1: time to bloom, Like it just takes time and each
42:24
Speaker 1: seed requires different types of care and then the reward
42:28
Speaker 1: is immense. It's beautiful. But I'm trying to bring that
42:30
Speaker 1: same type of like that's slow, intentional, powerful movement into
42:35
Speaker 1: my personal work mm hmm. I love that. I feel
42:39
Speaker 1: like I've been sitting in that that moment for myself
42:42
Speaker 1: right now too, and exploring how to make really the thoughtful,
42:47
Speaker 1: mindful pace that I experienced my life with, how to
42:50
Speaker 1: also let my work be led by that pace and
42:54
Speaker 1: have beautiful, bountiful boundaries that support that gets real? Have you,
43:00
Speaker 1: I mean, have you recognized how much we like in
43:04
Speaker 1: our work. We're almost we're like imitating machines, were like
43:08
Speaker 1: pretending to be machines, and we're not like, you know,
43:12
Speaker 1: I can only send so many emails in one day
43:14
Speaker 1: or I can't you know, to expect like immediate responses
43:18
Speaker 1: from each other. It's like wow, like people are going
43:20
Speaker 1: through different things, Like you have no idea what hardships
43:23
Speaker 1: are going to and if anything, we should be cutting
43:26
Speaker 1: each other some slack because like life is hard and
43:29
Speaker 1: life is complicated and it's incredibly complex. So things just
43:33
Speaker 1: slowing down a little bit, it's incredibly beneficial. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
43:40
Speaker 1: you know, I want to I want to ask you this,
43:42
Speaker 1: um and I know that this it's really kind of
43:46
Speaker 1: a loaded question because there's always more to know, there's
43:51
Speaker 1: always more pieces of ourselves to access and deepen in.
43:55
Speaker 1: But how did you know that you had to ride
44:00
Speaker 1: at yourself? How did you know that you had come
44:03
Speaker 1: home into yourself? What was that reflection or when did
44:07
Speaker 1: that kind of start to settle in where you could
44:09
Speaker 1: look back and really say, wow, look who I've become,
44:13
Speaker 1: or book what I look at where I softened, look
44:17
Speaker 1: at what I let going. Um it's funny because I
44:21
Speaker 1: was literally just thinking about that yesterday, because I when
44:25
Speaker 1: when I think of that question, to me, it's like
44:28
Speaker 1: how did I get on the right path? Right? Because Um,
44:34
Speaker 1: I've been thinking a lot about how like time and motion,
44:39
Speaker 1: like change, it's something that just continues just plowing forward.
44:43
Speaker 1: It just moves forward. Um. So oftentimes we get caught
44:46
Speaker 1: up in this idea of healing ourselves and like that
44:51
Speaker 1: we're trying to go back to this original state and
44:54
Speaker 1: go back to the time before the trauma, before the hurt.
44:57
Speaker 1: But I've been recognizing that at best, it's a memory
45:01
Speaker 1: of how we were before. But even when we cleanse
45:04
Speaker 1: ourselves and heal ourselves of all these heavy patterns or
45:08
Speaker 1: you know, this heavy weight that we've been carrying in
45:10
Speaker 1: our minds, the person that we become during and after
45:15
Speaker 1: the healing is totally new. It's some so I'm always
45:19
Speaker 1: thinking like okay, but I feel that newness and I
45:22
Speaker 1: feel that like you know, I'm moving in a better
45:26
Speaker 1: direction and the right direction. But like when did I
45:28
Speaker 1: get on this path? When did I accept it? When
45:31
Speaker 1: did I feel that feeling of home? And I think
45:34
Speaker 1: it was at some point in like twenty I would say,
45:39
Speaker 1: like twenty sixteen, um, like four like four or five
45:43
Speaker 1: years after like the real healing journey began where I
45:46
Speaker 1: kind of settled in and recognized like, hey, like this
45:50
Speaker 1: meditation technique that I've been putting a lot of time into,
45:53
Speaker 1: it's giving me massive rewards and I have so much
45:58
Speaker 1: more to learn from it and so much are to
46:00
Speaker 1: gain from just like continuing. And and it's funny too
46:03
Speaker 1: because like more of the people that I met through
46:07
Speaker 1: um vipassana and like, like I just found them all
46:10
Speaker 1: so incredibly inspiring, and I was like, I know the people,
46:13
Speaker 1: like they feel like my friends, you know, like or
46:16
Speaker 1: they could have been like siblings and past lives or
46:18
Speaker 1: we've been doing this for such a long time, and
46:20
Speaker 1: it felt so special to start recognizing that like this
46:25
Speaker 1: was for me and this is my path and and
46:27
Speaker 1: it's funny, you know, like I'm always, um, I'm grateful
46:30
Speaker 1: that I have this path, but I know there's so
46:31
Speaker 1: many valuable paths out there. And that's one of the
46:34
Speaker 1: wonderful things about Instagram, Like even you know you don't
46:36
Speaker 1: you And I like, you're getting so much value from
46:38
Speaker 1: the ways that you meditate, the techniques that you pursue.
46:41
Speaker 1: And I love that, like brother sisterhood of that where
46:46
Speaker 1: you can heal yourself in a lot of different ways
46:48
Speaker 1: and the healing is real and we should be supportive
46:51
Speaker 1: of that. But finding your own home, um, it's such
46:54
Speaker 1: a special journey. But I think I really found that
46:56
Speaker 1: with gas technique. I think it just it just hit
47:00
Speaker 1: home and I gained so much from it that I
47:03
Speaker 1: would be foolish to stop. Yeah yeah, yeah, once you've
47:10
Speaker 1: tasted it. It's really like there's just no anything less
47:14
Speaker 1: is not an option, you know, Like uh, like I
47:18
Speaker 1: was thinking of I saw this name on Instagram that
47:21
Speaker 1: was silly, but it really made me laugh. It was like,
47:23
Speaker 1: I would never allow someone else to treat me regular
47:26
Speaker 1: I don't even treat And I was thinking about like
47:30
Speaker 1: the way that I treat myself, and I'm like wow,
47:32
Speaker 1: like I really treat myself well, like I give myself.
47:37
Speaker 1: I treat myself as an offering to God, as a
47:40
Speaker 1: as a you know. Um. But you know, I think
47:46
Speaker 1: my moment of coming into that it clicked for me
47:50
Speaker 1: that every moment I felt like enough. I think for me,
47:56
Speaker 1: that was like my big moment where I said I
47:59
Speaker 1: am home. Not not to say or infer that there's
48:03
Speaker 1: not more places to go and new areas to reach
48:06
Speaker 1: within myself, but I realized that I was fully in purpose,
48:12
Speaker 1: in flow, and home within my own body when everything
48:17
Speaker 1: just felt like enough. There was no longing in any
48:21
Speaker 1: moment for anything other than what was there and available.
48:25
Speaker 1: You know, I find that so incredibly inspiring because one
48:30
Speaker 1: thing that has dawned on me so clearly is like
48:34
Speaker 1: one of the biggest points of tension in the mind
48:37
Speaker 1: is that we're constantly wanting more so to be able
48:40
Speaker 1: to have the experience of oh, this is enough, Like
48:43
Speaker 1: that's that's not only really beautiful, but like that's that's safety.
48:49
Speaker 1: Like you know, you're actually like you're you've been able
48:52
Speaker 1: to make your mind into a haven, and that's really important.
48:57
Speaker 1: M Thank you, thank you, thank you for that. Even
49:00
Speaker 1: in the little moments, right, Like I think about things
49:02
Speaker 1: that used to irritate me, like, um, you know sometimes
49:06
Speaker 1: you're stuck waiting on something, there's nothing to do, and
49:11
Speaker 1: like now I'm like, oh, this is the opportunity to
49:14
Speaker 1: close my eyes. Yeah for sure, for sure I get
49:19
Speaker 1: excited about. Yeah. I love meditating in line. Yeah, oh
49:23
Speaker 1: my god. Like every time I'm like, oh, let me
49:25
Speaker 1: close my eyes, or oh let me listen for ambient sound,
49:28
Speaker 1: what animals are near me? Or what what are the
49:31
Speaker 1: smaller textures that I can connect to? And yeah, even
49:36
Speaker 1: right now talking to you and sharing that out loud
49:39
Speaker 1: and feeling really delighted by that, like and being like
49:42
Speaker 1: that's enough to me, that moment in the line that
49:44
Speaker 1: feels so good. And I think it's such a good
49:47
Speaker 1: practice because like, I mean, what what do a lot
49:49
Speaker 1: of you know, different techniques do. They just bring you
49:52
Speaker 1: back to the present moment, so you're not just jumping
49:55
Speaker 1: around in the future, you know, like hating and avoiding
49:59
Speaker 1: or feeling tense about the past, and it's just you know,
50:02
Speaker 1: what are you gonna do in either of those? See? Nothing,
50:05
Speaker 1: You're just you're just you know, swimming and narratives in
50:08
Speaker 1: your mind so come back to the present moment where
50:10
Speaker 1: you can fully live your life. Mm hmm. Received your
50:16
Speaker 1: book Clarity and Connection. It's available everywhere a It is
50:21
Speaker 1: fully available for pre order right now. In this moment,
50:25
Speaker 1: you can connect with Diego on Instagram on his wildly
50:29
Speaker 1: popular and just profound Instagram page Young Pueblo and you
50:34
Speaker 1: know Diego. Before we get out of the show, I
50:37
Speaker 1: invite every guest to offer some soul work to the
50:40
Speaker 1: audience at the end of the episode. And so that
50:42
Speaker 1: can look like a journal prompt or maybe a reflection
50:46
Speaker 1: to savor throughout the day, or any kind of negative
50:49
Speaker 1: wisdom of something that has aided you. What would that
50:53
Speaker 1: soul work be from you? One thing that I'm trying
50:57
Speaker 1: to often do it. So there's two things. One is
51:02
Speaker 1: like how can I more gently move about in life? Um,
51:09
Speaker 1: being able to move through this medium of gentleness is
51:12
Speaker 1: like my own personal work, Like that's what I'm here
51:14
Speaker 1: to do. It is like, how how gently can I
51:17
Speaker 1: speak with people treat them? You know, um, not come
51:21
Speaker 1: in expecting things and and also recognize that even though
51:27
Speaker 1: we're interacting in this moment, like how much did you
51:31
Speaker 1: have to go through to be able to arrive at
51:33
Speaker 1: this moment, like I'm not totally aware of you know,
51:36
Speaker 1: if in the past hour something difficult to happen to you.
51:39
Speaker 1: So let me just move through these different situations that
51:42
Speaker 1: I'm a part of really gently. Um. So I guess
51:45
Speaker 1: that that question is, you know, how how can I
51:48
Speaker 1: move a little more gently through this world? Um? And
51:52
Speaker 1: the other one is like, in terms of the people
51:55
Speaker 1: who are closest to us in most close proximity, UM,
52:01
Speaker 1: check with yourself if you're loving them in a way
52:07
Speaker 1: that supports their freedom. And because it's attachments are so sneaky,
52:12
Speaker 1: and sometimes we we think we know what's best for them,
52:16
Speaker 1: but oftentimes it's because we want them to be like us. Um.
52:22
Speaker 1: So it's just really important to check and see, you know,
52:26
Speaker 1: it's fine if they make different choices from you. They're
52:28
Speaker 1: not going to live their lives the way you want
52:32
Speaker 1: them to live in or the way that you have
52:34
Speaker 1: lived yours. So check if your love is really, you know,
52:38
Speaker 1: getting closer to being unconditional because real love supports freedom. Wow. Wow,
52:50
Speaker 1: that was um mm hmm m m. Yeah. Everyone, Please
52:59
Speaker 1: breathe in to that. Please breathe into that. That was gorgeous. Um.
53:06
Speaker 1: And I hope everyone really spends sometimes with both of
53:09
Speaker 1: those beautiful thoughts with yourself. And you can rewind this
53:13
Speaker 1: episode to any part that you need. If you need
53:15
Speaker 1: to listen back, grab a notebook, write that down, but
53:19
Speaker 1: spend time with that. That was beautiful. Diego Young Pueblo.

Speaker 1: you for your graciousness, thank you for your love for yourself.
53:40
Speaker 1: Thank you so much, my friend. This has been such
53:43
Speaker 1: an honor, and every time that we come together, it's
53:47
Speaker 1: just it feels like we're making magic calling into existence.
53:54
Speaker 1: We are going to be on somebody's stage somewhere in
53:57
Speaker 1: the world. Yeah, when it's nice and safely open, I'm
54:01
Speaker 1: for it. Yeah for sure. But thank you so much.
54:03
Speaker 1: This has been such a joy, and thank you for

Speaker 1: of a conversation. Mm hmm. I received that. Thank you
54:23
Speaker 1: all right, everybody. Wow, rewind this a couple of times.
