A fast-moving brush fire, the Ridge Fire, has erupted near Gorman at the L.A.-Kern County border, swallowing 100 acres and racing downhill toward the 5 freeway. Authorities are shutting down a stretch of the freeway from SR-138 north to Gorman to protect lives and aid firefighting efforts.
