- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:30So today we are talking about giving negative feedback and one
- 0:36of the interesting things about. Giving negative feedback is most
- 0:40of us don't like to do it. We try to find ways to soften
- 0:44it. We try to find ways to dance
- 0:45around it. We try to find things that are
- 0:48easier for us than actually giving.
- 0:50The straightforward feedback are the facts that we see to be
- 0:53true. And in the process of this, it
- 0:56is never an easy task to take it on and say okay, I'm going to do
- 1:00this. Like this is a real life
- 1:02situation for me right now where I am in the position of giving
- 1:07some feedback I need to give. Give feedback, let me put it
- 1:10that way. And I have been dragging my feet
- 1:13and this is to somebody who I hired to help me with something
- 1:19and it just, it just didn't go the way I thought it was going
- 1:25to go and so. I have to give this feedback and
- 1:29it's easier for me because I will say, you know, you know, I
- 1:32want to stay away from confrontation.
- 1:34I practiced, you know, very deep spirituality, many Buddhist
- 1:39traits, and I feel like I have to constantly be alignment with
- 1:43that, which means you don't always jump into the arguments,
- 1:48you know that. And that was something that I
- 1:49used to do early on in my life. And now I try to stay away from
- 1:53that. So one of the big things for me
- 1:55that's such a difficult task to do is to be able to say, hey,
- 1:59I'm going to stop, I'm going to pause and I'm not going to do
- 2:02this. I'm not going to give negative
- 2:04feedback in a way that has no, you know, end result.
- 2:09So I shy away from it. So this situation comes up and
- 2:12I'm, I feel very justified in giving some negative feedback,
- 2:16but. I, you know, avoid it.
- 2:19So I sat down and I was asking my husband, I said, what would
- 2:21you do in this situation? And being the very masculine guy
- 2:25he is, he said I would just lay it all out in an e-mail and I
- 2:29would say down each of the things that I felt were out of
- 2:32alignment. And then I would move on.
- 2:35And I was like, interesting because the way he explained it,
- 2:39it was so straightforward. And in my head I was saying, you
- 2:42know, I thought it was this and and I was.
- 2:45Softening everything. And he's like just the facts.
- 2:48Just give the facts. This was what was said.
- 2:51This is what happened. This is what was said.
- 2:53This is what happened. So, you know, ultimately I have
- 2:57a choice to make whether I'm going to do this.
- 2:59And ultimately I still have not decided.
- 3:01But I I'm bringing this up to all of you because I want you
- 3:04all to know this is a thing. This is a real thing.
- 3:07And. We all go through this.
- 3:09We all have this, this stuff that happens in our lives where
- 3:13we have to provide feedback, whether it's positive or
- 3:17negative. We have an opportunity to
- 3:18provide feedback. And the real question comes down
- 3:22to how do you engage in it? Do you avoid it?
- 3:25Do you contemplate it? Do you say to yourself, well the
- 3:28way I'm doing it right now is I'm, I'm going to just soften it
- 3:32up. I'm, I'm going to give it
- 3:34straightforward but understanding how you
- 3:37communicate is such an. Important piece of the puzzle
- 3:39and I know for me, I am not like at the a point in my life where
- 3:43I like to give tons of negative feedback.
- 3:45It just doesn't happen for me. So this is this is a time where
- 3:49it's a real stretch to get out there and say it.
- 3:51But as you grow in your life and you grow in yourself, it's very
- 3:56important to realize that just because it's negative doesn't
- 3:59mean it has to be a bad thing for them to hear.
- 4:02It doesn't mean it has to be something for them that is, you
- 4:05know, a a detriment to them. Maybe it's the growth they need.
- 4:09Maybe it's the thing that they need to hear so that they can
- 4:11change. Whatever it is, it's causing
- 4:14these things to show up, the problems to show up.
- 4:17So it's our job as the people that have had the experience.
- 4:23That's not exactly what we thought it was going to be, to
- 4:26make decisions about how we're going to handle it and what
- 4:29we're going to do. So first and foremost, it is
- 4:32incredibly important just to recognize.
- 4:35You have the power to be able to stop and pause and say, you know
- 4:38what, I I can do this and I can do a good job with it.
- 4:43And I don't have to, you know, be a witch about doing it.
- 4:46I can be very pragmatic and I can be very truthful and I can
- 4:50move forward and feel good about cleansing it.
- 4:54Off my plate and you know, ultimately that's what I'm going
- 4:57to do and I'm going to put together something that does
- 5:00give the feedback. But for the most important part
- 5:03of this part of our conversation, look and see how
- 5:06you do it. So you know, even if you're not
- 5:08in a situation like this, you want to know it.
- 5:10So how when it comes up, you're prepared to offer it.
- 5:13All right, my friends, I hope you have a blessed day as I go
- 5:17out there and work through providing them with feedback
- 5:20that will help them get themselves to a different place.
- 5:24And if they don't use it, I'm totally detached from it.
- 5:27So I hope you have a blessed day and I will see you tomorrow.
- 5:30Bye.
