- 0:01Hey everybody, welcome to the good morning from the Chicken
- 0:04Coop podcast. My name is Kim Johnson and I am
- 0:07a mastermindset, coach, creative strategist, and also happened to
- 0:10be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy. Into the.
- 0:21World. So welcome to the coop and let's
- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way, hey?
- 0:27Everybody, good morning. Well, yesterday was quite the
- 0:30day and I missed putting the podcast up, so I'm putting up
- 0:35two today and this is the first one.
- 0:37Yesterday was all about the snow, the weather and being
- 0:41stuck inside and feeling like, Oh my gosh, my head was spinning
- 0:46because how did I know what was going to happen?
- 0:48I mean, I have so many plants out here that are affected by
- 0:53the extreme cold. And this morning we woke up and
- 0:56it's 19° and the wind chill makes it feel even colder.
- 1:00And it is not healthy for a lot of the plants.
- 1:04So we're just watching. We know some of them.
- 1:06You can't like, you know, citrus trees.
- 1:09This was a chance when we put them in.
- 1:11We knew that. But you know, they, they say
- 1:14they can go down to the 20s. So we'll see what happens.
- 1:17And, you know, as far as our fig trees go, most of them should be
- 1:21OK. Last year when we had this
- 1:23freak, another freak snowstorm, we had to die.
- 1:27It died off up top, but then it grew back.
- 1:29And what was crazy about that one was we probably have about
- 1:3410 fig trees and some of them are very small, some of them are
- 1:38big. But the one that was around the
- 1:41corner of the the garden, it was a pretty good sized tree and it
- 1:46died off all the way to the ground.
- 1:48Mark cut it back and all of a sudden it came back and it grew
- 1:53like twice its size. And we both were were like just
- 1:57marveling at the fact that, one, it could pull that off and do
- 1:59that. And two, it's like it was such a
- 2:02hard event. Like when you think about it, it
- 2:05was shocking. It was hard, It ripped it apart
- 2:07and it came back even stronger. And it's such a cool metaphor
- 2:11for, you know, what we all need to go through sometimes as
- 2:14humans, when something takes you down, you can recognize nature
- 2:18wants you to come back even stronger.
- 2:20And, and it did. So we're going to see how it
- 2:23handles it this time. But yesterday was all consuming.
- 2:26And honestly, I was focused on working on paperwork and taxes
- 2:30and getting caught up so that I couldn't focus on everything
- 2:33that was outside dying in my mind because I was like, Oh no,
- 2:36Oh no, no. But it turns out we it, you
- 2:40know, we did not get more than an inch of snow.
- 2:42And I got most of my paperwork done, which I will finish today
- 2:46because again, can't really go anywhere.
- 2:48We don't have sand trucks and plows and not that we need a
- 2:51plow, but we definitely would need salt and sand.
- 2:54And hopefully it's going to warm up just enough where they said
- 2:56we were going to teeter around 32 today, so freezing and
- 3:01hopefully it will melt just enough so that we can get back
- 3:04out on the roads. But then tonight when it, you
- 3:05know, gets cold again, it's going to freeze again.
- 3:08So we're going to have days of this every morning until we have
- 3:11clearing and everything dries up.
- 3:13But the point is the spiraling head, I had to keep it busy.
- 3:18So I just shut everything off. I shut my phone off.
- 3:20I shut everything off. And I focused on that one thing.
- 3:24I focused on one thing like getting the paperwork done.
- 3:27And the lesson in that for everybody is sometimes when your
- 3:30brain is so loud and you can't shut it off, you have to tell it
- 3:33no. I'm working on this.
- 3:35And that's what I had to keep doing all day yesterday.
- 3:38So if you find yourself stuck in a situation like that and you
- 3:42need to shut off all the chatter, giving yourself one
- 3:45major directive sometimes can be unbelievably effective.
- 3:50Especially when you say there's no option for failure and there
- 3:54isn't because I know I have to have this to him like now,
- 3:58because it's got to be filed for the corporate paperwork.
- 4:01So my point is, you got to do it.
- 4:05You got to just suck it up and tell yourself there's no option.
- 4:08And honestly, it feels good when you can stop back and see how
- 4:12much you accomplished. So if you're in that situation,
- 4:15give it a try and hopefully you will have the experience I had
- 4:20when you can control it to not just get a bunch of stuff done,
- 4:23but to really feel good about it.
- 4:25So I hope you guys have a blessed day and I will see you
- 4:28on the next one. Bye.
