- 0:15The more I'm one from the side and uh yeah, I got working out
- 0:27banished by sending beautiful Glenn. Thanks for joining us today right now, Thanks
- 0:32for having me. Oh So, the Side's thirty eighth album, Banished by
- 0:36Siddon came out last month, mate, So how's the only reception been for
- 0:40it? Pretty amazing, man, everybody's kind of a lot of people losing
- 0:46their ship on it. You know, tell us bit about it from a
- 0:54musical point of view, Bright and what what are you going forward it?
- 0:57Well, I mean we're just like you saying, Man, we went through
- 1:00the whole COVID bullshit thing with everybody else, and we had a lot of
- 1:03time on our hands, so we put together a record. We were on
- 1:07our contract, so we were just kind of like writing for the front of
- 1:10it. And as we said, it is your third eighth album. Might
- 1:15say, does it become easier or hot at it? Just sort of come
- 1:19up with new material the more you put out. I guess I think when
- 1:23you don't have anybody breathing on your back, I think it's really it's a
- 1:26whole lot easier. You know, you don't have a record company bothering you
- 1:30or people calling up every day harassing you and giving you time limits and trying
- 1:34to rush you for this and that. I mean, we just did it
- 1:38on our own time and our at our own pace, at our own speed.
- 1:42And yeah, man, when you know, it just came together really
- 1:46well for us. And timing of everything, yeah, quite of the sign
- 1:52and the press release that musically that the album is to thrive back to the
- 1:56naughty, naughty stall of the band, Like hou say, I don't know
- 2:00about that. I just think that, you know, we recorded it in
- 2:04a way. I think a lot of people hear that, you know,
- 2:06they think when they hear it, they think of the old sounds and you
- 2:09know, from the past, and that I just think it was the way
- 2:13we recorded and we got more bad, I got more away from the whole
- 2:17pro tools automation sound. It went more to a real live amplifiers and and
- 2:27no plug ins, no modeling, that's really amplifiers, real microphones, and
- 2:30recorded a record like you used to record. Yeah cool, for the benefit
- 2:37the people like me bro don't sort of really understand too much about that recording
- 2:39process, like how how does how does it different? Like you say,
- 2:43any wanted to go for the for the live amplified sound rather than with pro
- 2:49tools. When you use pro Tools, it's it's really easy to cut and
- 2:54paste, you know, play a part and and just cut and paste that
- 2:59part all over the record or all of the particular song. And with what
- 3:05we're doing is more like more or less like you're playing the parts all the
- 3:09way through the song. You're not just you know, playing I mean,
- 3:12we use a little bit of that here and there, but it's with pro
- 3:17Tools you can there's a lot of plug ins that you can pick to use,
- 3:23like effects, guitar amplifiers and cabinets, you know. I mean you
- 3:28can model an AMP sound through your Pro Tools program out of your computer.
- 3:34And what happens is it starts to sound like elevator music. After a while,
- 3:38it just sounds so mechanically made, you know, and it just kind
- 3:42of loses that you know, that genuine you know feel and sound. Right.
- 3:47So in essence it is is it's sort of more or less like you're
- 3:52on stage playing it and it's getting recorded that way rather than together. Yeah.
- 3:58Yeah, our sound guy, our sound guy to tracked us and that,
- 4:00and so I mean you're getting a live D side sound, you know,
- 4:04that's really what it was, and it took a lot to keep that,
- 4:08you know, from getting away from us as far as mixing and mastering
- 4:12and that, losing that the compression and that. So it took a lot
- 4:15to keep everybody on board with the way I wanted it to sound. Well,
- 4:19So can we go back to the early days of D Side bro Like
- 4:23you started the band back in Tampa, Florida in the late nineteen eighties,
- 4:26So what was the music of climate like that gave birth to the band?
- 4:30And then where did you fit in? Initially? For me, man,
- 4:32I was down here for you know, we had badly nasty. Savage and
- 4:39Sabotage were like the first two band metal, real metal bands in this area,
- 4:45you know. And I would go to those shows when I was a
- 4:46kid. And then what was your early early vision for the band? I
- 4:50guess? And then how's it changed since? I mean, I'm just like
- 4:55I say, I don't think. I don't know, Man, I never
- 4:57thought I would still be doing this at fifty seven years okay, So I'm
- 5:01just really appreciative of the fact that I'm still healthy and I just still do
- 5:08this. And sorry, as a vision of the band, man, it's
- 5:10always been just what I sing about, man, you know, I mean
- 5:13what I do and that I mean, we just always want to just trying
- 5:15to keep the thing as heavy as as possible and just you know, keep
- 5:19bringing people back to what we do. So You're not any naughty. Self
- 5:24titled debut album really shook things up in the music world, right, Like,
- 5:27was that your intented the time? I mean, you're looking to sort
- 5:29of come out and make make a difference. I guess, so were you
- 5:31sort of more just doing it for yourself? Yeah, I mean that record
- 5:34was just like the record we just did. It was like one record that
- 5:38we will for ourselves. We were we didn't have a record deal then.
- 5:42I mean, we wrote a record worth of material and it was good,
- 5:45you know. I mean we had time to really play with it, modify
- 5:47it and make it right. And when you have that kind of time and
- 5:51no pressure on you and that, you can do pretty good things. Man,
- 5:55you can do some amazing things. So thirty five years is a long
- 5:59time in the industry. Bright There's been lots of trends coming going that time,
- 6:02but day Sides always stayed true yourself and your music. But have you
- 6:06ever been tempted to sort of change it up in all to fit in with
- 6:10the changing times did and everybody be crying about that too. So you don't
- 6:18want to sing about you know? I mean, what's it really left to
- 6:21sing about that hasn't been sung about? Right? Think about? Right?
- 6:26Am I gonna sing about getting my heart broken? Or singing about you know,
- 6:31how fast my car is or how ugly my wife is? I mean,
- 6:35what do you sing about at this point? You know? I think
- 6:39if you just stay true to yourself, I think you'll have a lot.
- 6:42I think that's part of key to my longevity is that I've never abandoned when
- 6:46I started. Yeah. True? So what's next to Day's side by?
- 6:49You gotten any shows coming up? We're going to be going to Europe in
- 6:55July and uh US Canada in September, and then we're going to go to
- 7:00South America and some festivals coming back. I think we're gonna do a seven
- 7:05week run in April twenty five in Europe, and yeah, I would like
- 7:11to come down and back down Australia and do some shows. Man. Just
- 7:14I need incredible you know, incredible promoter down there to handle it, you
- 7:18know, and if so, they can contact our agency or whatever that would
- 7:23we really consider coming back down doing another run. Last time I was there,
- 7:28I didn't really have a good time because I was going through some personal
- 7:30ship and so I didn't really get it. I didn't get a chance to
- 7:33enjoy myself like I did the first time I was there. Oh, let's
- 7:36see if we can get you back at Mike and Ben's brother. I'll come
- 7:41down and need some seafood and chase some kangaroos. It was like fun to
