Transcript
- 0:02Here's your host, Alex Garrett, and welcome inside to this edition of the
- 0:11One Leg Up with Alex Garrett feature. I want to point you to a
- 0:15couple other channels today where you have some adaptive conversation about what it meant for
- 0:21the Islanders to visit the Viscarti Center, what adaptive sports means to the disabled
- 0:28community and people with disabilities. And you'll hear it there too, but I
- 0:32wanted to get it on the record on the One Leg Up feature. You'll
- 0:36re hear the conversation I had with Raddick Martineck, the former Islander, about
- 0:42his visit to Albertson, New York and that low brick, big building we
- 0:46love to call the Viscarti Center. All right, Well, one of my
- 0:50coolest moments now in broadcasting is actually calling a former n a teller's goal.
- 0:55Raddick Martineck, You scored in a Raddick Martineck style, but you know,
- 1:00adapt your sell in a wheelchair? What was that like? You're adapting to
- 1:03the chair tonight. It's it's very hard to move. It's uh you have
- 1:10to you have to use uh not too much power, right move If you're
- 1:18moving right, you have to pull back. If you live, you have
- 1:22to pull the other hand. It's it's a very very tough too. And
- 1:25stick handling was a change chair. It's a very challenging stick handling. You
- 1:29can basically use only one hand and verily you're using two hands. What's it
- 1:36mean to be part of the islanders who are very involved in the community like
- 1:38this. You must love to being part of all this. So it's a
- 1:41little giving back, right And h I love to do this, especially now
- 1:47I'm retired, so I enjoy this stuff. We made an impact on the
- 1:51island. You made impact tonight, so thank you so much. Thanks.
- 1:56And that was Raddick Martinek. How cool is that? And that was at
- 2:00the Henry Riscardi Center and they played adaptive hockey and I, you know,
- 2:07that adjustment from walking to a wheelchair a power chair had to be something else,
- 2:15mainly a wheelchair for feratic. But then I thought, you know,
- 2:19we could talk about this migrant crisis issue, and we could talk about how
- 2:23we're spending billions, millions and whatever trillions it feels like on this migrant crisis.
- 2:30But I don't know. I don't want to always give you bad news
- 2:36because the one leg up with Alex Garrett helps you have one leg up on
- 2:40life and being in the doldrums when it comes to the migrant crisis. Talking
- 2:45about the dull drums of the migrant crisis isn't always positive or healthy or good
- 2:53for society. But I'll drop this. I think the saddest part of it
- 3:02is that Mayor Adams won't even have his call answer by President Biden. Is
- 3:07it how do you know that? Well, Ay, have we got any
- 3:09federal money for this crisis to handle it? No? And b is this
- 3:15liaison doing anything for New York City as far as the representation of the White
- 3:22House, this liaison, this immigration liaison, is he doing anything? Absolutely
- 3:27not, And it doesn't know that this controller is kind of not even being
- 3:32the New York City controller. I don't know where Brad Lander is. Is
- 3:38he on the milk cartainer? I like to say, is he controller in
- 3:43name only at this point? Because if he was a real controller, wouldn't
- 3:46he investigate how much money's really going into this migrant crisis? And wouldn't he
- 3:53worked with the liaison to figure out the finances of this migrant crisis. It's
- 4:00all kind of a blurry vision and it's impacting us and will be, I
- 4:08guess for months to come. We can only pray that maybe those that are
- 4:13here illegally still want to do good for this country and will not depend on
- 4:17a hotel and shelters, but really make good for themselves while in the greatest
- 4:23city in the world, New York City. But I digress because what caught
- 4:30my eye this week on the one leg Up feature is after seeing Oppenheimer,
- 4:34the name silly and Murphy, the man who played Jay Robert Oppenheimer was in
- 4:40the news again, this time with a music festival. So next in a
- 4:47few weeks the Irish play Navy in Ireland and if you want, you can
- 4:53go back there for September seventh to tenth in Cork City, Ireland, when
- 5:01Cillian Murphy puts on the sounds from a Safe Harbor music festival, you know
- 5:09he was doing he was a great actor in Oppenheimer. But did you know
- 5:13that he also had a band that was offered a record deal when he was
- 5:20a teen, but after things kind of fell through, he turned his attention
- 5:25to acting. According to IrishCentral dot Com, so the irishman Sillian Murphy putting
- 5:33on the sounds from a Safe Harbor Biennial Festival which features music, dance,
- 5:42art, theater and conversation in Quark City September seventh to tenth, so about
- 5:46a month from now. So if you love Irish music, if you love
- 5:53his work in Oppenheimer, support him. And if you listen to this podcast
- 5:59in Ireland where which I know it is listened to in Ireland, go out
- 6:01and have some funness September enjoy the Safe Harbor Biennial Festival the Sounds from a
- 6:10Safe Harbor Biennial Festival put on by mister Oppenheimer. Sillian Murphy and congrats on
- 6:18this multi talented guy for not only doing an incredible job in that movie,
- 6:26but then putting on what I presume to be will be an incredible music festival.
- 6:32It's so summer, you've still got things to do, concerts to go
- 6:35do, and if you like to travel, help go to Ireland for a
- 6:39few days and check out the Safe Harbor by Ennio Festival in Quirk City,
- 6:46Ireland this year September seventh to tenth. And finally today it is Fanatics Friday.
- 6:54You'll have the latest deal dropped in your description below. We are affiliate
- 6:59partners with Fanatics. Got to meet Wade Tunkin in New York a couple of
- 7:02weeks ago. Good guy, good strategy brainstorming. I did wear my Fanatics
- 7:09hat atop the Empire Safe Building, which I'll maybe drop again on only Instagram.
- 7:15But this other app called photo five, that's right. Photo five is
- 7:19an app where actually, if you've got enough followers and you've got enough engagement,
- 7:24you can be considered to get donations for your work. That's right.
- 7:28I think it's an Instagram disruptor because I just saw recently one of my friends
- 7:32Airborne Camera how to be censored on Instagram for our comments. Maybe try a
- 7:40new kind of photo sharing app. Photo five linked to that in the description
- 7:46below as well. So if you thinks to catch up on my combination with
- 7:50lou Terminello, Terminello's take for this week, we celebrate ten years as a
- 7:57friendship, and then we got some adaptive conversation about how adaptive sports is this
- 8:03ferret of adaptability, and then a couple of links to check out while you're
- 8:09on this podcast page. Oh and by the way, if you download the
- 8:13Spreaker app, that's right. Spreaker has an app and you subscribe to the
- 8:16one leg up feature, the Adapted with Alex Skarrett feature. Any of the
- 8:20features, you'll get notified right in the app that Hey, you've got a
- 8:24few shows to check out and catch up on the Alex Skirrett podcast Network.
- 8:30Check it out today on Spreaker. That's up for now. I'm Alex S.
- 8:35Garrett. We'll talk to you soon.
