- Lucas: Hey Luna, ready for another episode of Learn German with Fexingo? Luna: Yeah, I am! What are we learning today? Lucas: Today we're going to the park. We'll learn some words for things you see there. Luna: Oh, nice! I love parks. So, what's the first word? Lucas: First, the word for park itself: der Park. Luna: der Park. That sounds similar to English. Lucas: Exactly. And it's masculine, so der. Let me say it slowly: der Park. Luna: der Park. Lucas: Perfect. Now, a common thing in parks: der Baum, meaning tree. Luna: der Baum. Like 'boom' but with a different vowel. Lucas: Right. So you might say: Ich sehe einen Baum. I see a tree. Luna: Ich sehe einen Baum. Let me try: Ich sehe einen Baum. Lucas: Great! Now, another pretty thing: die Blume, the flower. Luna: die Blume. That sounds soft. Lucas: Feminine, so die. Can you say: Ich sehe eine Blume? Luna: Ich sehe eine Blume. Lucas: Excellent. Next, a place to sit: die Bank, the bench. Luna: die Bank. Like a bank where you keep money, but here it's a bench. Lucas: Exactly. So if you want to say 'I sit on the bench,' you say: Ich sitze auf der Bank. Luna: Ich sitze auf der Bank. Lucas: Good. And for kids: der Spielplatz, the playground. Luna: der Spielplatz. 'Spiel' is play, 'Platz' is place. So play place. Lucas: Exactly. So let's do a little scene. Imagine we're in the park. Luna: Okay. I'll start. Ah, der Park ist schön. Lucas: Nice. Ich sehe einen Baum und eine Blume. Luna: Ich sehe eine Bank und einen Spielplatz. Lucas: You're getting it. Now let's practice all the words again. Luna: Sure. der Park, der Baum, die Blume, die Bank, der Spielplatz. Lucas: And remember, you can say: Ich sehe einen Baum. Let me hear that. Luna: Ich sehe einen Baum. Lucas: Perfect. Now, if Fexingo has been helping you make progress with German, there's a small way to support us. Luna: Yeah, some listeners chip in monthly through buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo, and that helps keep the show ad-free. Lucas: Exactly. It's listener-supported, and it's how we can keep making these episodes. So if you find value, consider that. Luna: But now back to the park. So, can we make a sentence with all the words? Lucas: Sure. Im Park gibt es einen Baum, eine Blume, eine Bank und einen Spielplatz. Luna: Im Park gibt es einen Baum, eine Blume, eine Bank und einen Spielplatz. That's a lot! Lucas: But you said it perfectly. Let's practice that one more time. Luna: Im Park gibt es einen Baum, eine Blume, eine Bank und einen Spielplatz. Lucas: Excellent. So today we learned: der Park, der Baum, die Blume, die Bank, der Spielplatz, and Ich sehe einen Baum. Luna: I feel like I can describe a park in German now. Thanks, Lucas! Lucas: You're welcome. Keep practicing these words, and next time you're in a park, say them out loud. Luna: See you next time! Lucas: Bis bald!
