1:34
Speaker 3: Wednesday edition of the show. Big news, of course, around
1:36
Speaker 3: these parts is our members' choice Federal Credit Union bucket
1:38
Speaker 3: drop for the flood victims going on as we speak
1:41
Speaker 3: on our lot eleven eleven Virginia Street East in Charleston.
1:44
Speaker 6: Now.
1:44
Speaker 3: In addition to members Choice, we're also working with Union
1:47
Speaker 3: Mission and the Charleston Dirty Birds to pull this off.
1:49
Speaker 3: Already had a lot of stuff dropped off, thank you
1:51
Speaker 3: so much, and we started at seven this morning. We've
1:54
Speaker 3: already had and I've got the exig I want to
1:56
Speaker 3: make sure I get the verbiage right. I got it
1:57
Speaker 3: in my notes over here somewhere. We had some from
2:00
Speaker 3: the I think it's the Greater Charleston the Homebuilders Association
2:03
Speaker 3: that dropped off several palettes of stuff out there early
2:06
Speaker 3: this morning. Thank you to Steve Animal for kind of
2:08
Speaker 3: coordinating that and those folks as well.
2:11
Speaker 4: He is good for something.
2:11
Speaker 3: He is good for something other than just his rugged, sexy,
2:14
Speaker 3: good looks. But we're gonna spend a little a lot
2:17
Speaker 3: of time actually talking about our event, which has happened
2:19
Speaker 3: until six o'clock tonight. Also a little bit later on,
2:23
Speaker 3: I've got the folks from Celtic Calling, which is a
2:26
Speaker 3: big festival that kicks off today and runs through the
2:28
Speaker 3: weekend in Charleston. We'll speak to Arianna about that, and
2:31
Speaker 3: Senator Eric tar is here as well. That's a voice
2:33
Speaker 3: that you heard, though, is the voice of my frequent
2:35
Speaker 3: tag team partner Rob Reel from our sister station ninety
2:38
Speaker 3: six one KWS. Good morning, Good morning, all decked out
2:41
Speaker 3: in the Dirty Birds gear today I'm repping.
2:44
Speaker 4: I had to make sure I had it ready to go.
2:47
Speaker 7: I may or may not plan out what the hats
2:49
Speaker 7: are going to be on a given day over the
2:51
Speaker 7: course of it, but I had to make sure that
2:52
Speaker 7: I had Dusty on my mind.
2:55
Speaker 3: Dusty's on your mind. So, and for those of that
2:58
Speaker 3: have not heard you on the air before, explainly, how
3:00
Speaker 3: many hats do you have.
3:01
Speaker 4: It's in the neighborhood of six hundred. It may be
3:05
Speaker 4: north of that now.
3:06
Speaker 7: So I do wear a different baseball cap every single
3:09
Speaker 7: day over the course of the year.
3:10
Speaker 4: There are a couple of.
3:11
Speaker 7: Bins of retired hats, but I still have enough that
3:13
Speaker 7: I can every single day. I have maybe a half
3:17
Speaker 7: dozen dirty Birds at this point. Wow, Maybe I'm always
3:21
Speaker 7: looking for more though, So you know, so drops, if
3:26
Speaker 7: you ever want to drop some stuff on my desk,
3:28
Speaker 7: you know what, I may or may not have a
3:29
Speaker 7: bone to pick on the hats. We did not get
3:31
Speaker 7: a Wheeler's hat last summer. We got shirts, but we
3:35
Speaker 7: didn't get a Wheeler's.
3:36
Speaker 3: That other voice, by the way, is Jill Garrett to
3:38
Speaker 3: the Dirty Birds. So you know, it's kind of hard
3:41
Speaker 3: to get a word in edgewise. When you put Robin
3:42
Speaker 3: I together, you realize that, no, it's all good.
3:45
Speaker 4: It's all good. So, Rob, how's it going out there?
3:47
Speaker 2: So far?
3:47
Speaker 7: As you mentioned, we've had a couple of truckloads I'm
3:50
Speaker 7: always pleasantly surprised, but never shocked at the way West
3:55
Speaker 7: Virginians show up for West Virginians. So one lady showed
3:59
Speaker 7: up with an entire trunk full back seats folded down
4:03
Speaker 7: and all that of actual buckets for us. We're calling
4:06
Speaker 7: it the bucket drop because we're trying to put together
4:11
Speaker 7: kits for folks. So think of those round five gallon
4:15
Speaker 7: re sealable to put the lid on them buckets, and
4:18
Speaker 7: then we want to fill them up with things like
4:20
Speaker 7: hygiene products, first aid items, household cleaners, gloves and masks
4:24
Speaker 7: and trash bags, everything you can think of. Bleach is
4:27
Speaker 7: really important because you know residue is going to lead
4:30
Speaker 7: to mold in these thirteen counties that have been affected
4:33
Speaker 7: in southern West Virginia. And I think maybe most importantly,
4:36
Speaker 7: as much as we talk about giving folks a mcguffin,
4:40
Speaker 7: and in this case, it was the bucket, we want
4:42
Speaker 7: to give you some tangible that you could give, that
4:43
Speaker 7: you could think about. But at the end of the day,
4:46
Speaker 7: cash and check donations to Union Mission are going to
4:49
Speaker 7: go the farthest because they have they have volume buying power,
4:53
Speaker 7: and that money can fill in the gaps. Once Jason
4:57
Speaker 7: and the folks get down there with the trucks and
5:00
Speaker 7: see what the needs are and how what we've got
5:02
Speaker 7: fills in, then we can start filling in the cracks
5:04
Speaker 7: and crevices with.
5:05
Speaker 4: Oh, we need to go buy this, We need to
5:06
Speaker 4: go a bit more of that.
5:07
Speaker 3: Exactly exactly, so Rob the people I was referring to earlier,
5:12
Speaker 3: the home Builders Association read to Charleston. John Copy, who's
5:16
Speaker 3: with the Builders First Source Folks donated a palette of
5:19
Speaker 3: trash bags, and Wilford Haynes from Ferguson Enterprises a pallet
5:23
Speaker 3: of buckets and rags and other supplies to help.
5:25
Speaker 4: That's what we're talking.
5:26
Speaker 7: I've been a fan of John Copy since he was
5:27
Speaker 7: John Original, So thank you, sir.
5:29
Speaker 3: You go greatly appreciate. And those guys are great, by
5:32
Speaker 3: the way for what they do. I've had them on
5:33
Speaker 3: my show several times with various things that they're doing
5:37
Speaker 3: in the community.
5:38
Speaker 7: And it's all about giving back. I mean, that's that's
5:40
Speaker 7: what the whole thing's about. And West Virginians helped West Virginians.
5:42
Speaker 7: It's that simple. And if if you have been a
5:45
Speaker 7: part or not of one of our drop events, and
5:48
Speaker 7: I think maybe what I'm most proud of in the
5:50
Speaker 7: two years that I have been back is that I
5:52
Speaker 7: have created this sop, this repeatable process, so people understand
5:56
Speaker 7: the loop through our parking lot seven to six, and
5:59
Speaker 7: hopefully they understand that a little or a lot, whatever
6:03
Speaker 7: you can give is going to be the right size.
6:06
Speaker 5: Uh.
6:06
Speaker 7: You know, we have folks who may show up with
6:08
Speaker 7: like one jug of bleach because that they were at
6:11
Speaker 7: the store they could afford will one extra thing that
6:14
Speaker 7: is as important to us as a palette showing up
6:18
Speaker 7: because at the end of the day, you know, your
6:20
Speaker 7: drop in the bucket pardon the pun, is going to
6:22
Speaker 7: fill up fast when we all team up for one another.
6:25
Speaker 7: All right, we'll let you get back out there, sir,
6:26
Speaker 7: appreciate you being here. Rob Reel from a Sister Nation
6:29
Speaker 7: ninety six to one KWS. And if you're out there, Rob,
6:32
Speaker 7: if you could do it, maybe around nine fifty, just
6:34
Speaker 7: send me somebody in here.
6:35
Speaker 4: It could be you.
6:36
Speaker 3: If you want to bring Jason in, that'll be that'll
6:38
Speaker 3: be fine. Rob Reel from a Sister Station ninety six

7:08
Speaker 3: Joe Garn from The Dirty Birds is with us, and
7:11
Speaker 3: you were able to survive the hurricane.
7:14
Speaker 4: That is Robbin and Dave. When we get.
7:16
Speaker 8: Together, yes, it's always entertaining. It wakes me up a
7:18
Speaker 8: little bit more in the morning.
7:20
Speaker 3: And we put Steve Animal with us. I mean it's
7:22
Speaker 3: a totally different ball game. Whitney Hunt is with us
7:24
Speaker 3: here from a Federal Members Choice Federal Credit union as well. Whitney,
7:28
Speaker 3: good morning, welcome to the show. Good morning, Thank you
7:30
Speaker 3: for being here. So Jill, what made the Dirty Birds
7:34
Speaker 3: want to get involved in this?
7:36
Speaker 8: I mean, look, we love partning with anything community we have.
7:40
Speaker 8: We were reached out by a few community organizations nonprofits
7:44
Speaker 8: that said, we need to help these flood victims, we
7:47
Speaker 8: need to help these counties in West Virginia, and we
7:49
Speaker 8: always want to hop on and help wherever we can.
7:51
Speaker 8: And obviously partning with with WRC always makes it easier
7:55
Speaker 8: for us too. We just want to give back to
7:58
Speaker 8: the community as much as possible, whether it's financial or
8:01
Speaker 8: physical donations, or just being able to help spread the
8:03
Speaker 8: word through our social media networks.
8:05
Speaker 3: All right, and Whitney, the same question for you, why
8:07
Speaker 3: did the Members Choice decide to get involved in this?
8:09
Speaker 3: And first of all, let me give you a little
8:11
Speaker 3: commercial here. What exactly is Members Choice Federal Credit Union?
8:14
Speaker 9: So Member's Choice West Virginia Federal Credit Union is a
8:17
Speaker 9: credit union located at tuoh one Ohio Avenue in Charleston.
8:22
Speaker 9: They charter nineteen different counties across the state of West Virginia.
8:26
Speaker 9: And really, when it comes to credit unions, I think
8:29
Speaker 9: the main thing that everybody knows about credit unions, it's
8:32
Speaker 9: about community. It's a non for profit organization, it's made
8:37
Speaker 9: up by its members. So once you have a share
8:42
Speaker 9: or an account within the credit union, you are a
8:45
Speaker 9: member of the credit union with voting rights. So it's
8:48
Speaker 9: just natural that our credit union focuses so much on
8:52
Speaker 9: community because if it wasn't for our community, there wouldn't
8:55
Speaker 9: be a credit union.
8:56
Speaker 3: So and this may be a little personal for you
8:59
Speaker 3: as well, because you've got ties to that area down there.
9:03
Speaker 9: Yeah. Absolutely, I grew up in Monroe County, West Virginia originally,
9:07
Speaker 9: but I have family from McDowell County specifically, I have
9:12
Speaker 9: family in Yager and Pineville.
9:14
Speaker 10: I have brothers that live.
9:15
Speaker 9: In Wyoming County. So definitely a lot of direct ties.
9:20
Speaker 4: Down to all areas that were hit hard.
9:21
Speaker 3: You know, we focused primarily on McDowell County in Mingo County,
9:26
Speaker 3: but again, I'm a Logan County guy.
9:28
Speaker 4: I've spent a lot of time.
9:28
Speaker 3: My family's from Wyoming County originally, so I know this
9:31
Speaker 3: area and this is an area that gets hit hard
9:35
Speaker 3: a lot with these flooding But I mean, you know, Whitney,
9:37
Speaker 3: I had people that they've been on the show and
9:40
Speaker 3: they've been interviewed by other media outlet's saying that in
9:43
Speaker 3: all their years, they've never seen devastation specifically like what
9:47
Speaker 3: everybody harkens back to maybe nineteen seventy seven that was
9:50
Speaker 3: a big flood down there, or maybe sixty three there
9:52
Speaker 3: were Wyoming County was hit hard in the early two thousands,
9:55
Speaker 3: but nothing quite like this.
9:58
Speaker 9: No, my grandmother's act still in Jager, and my brothers
10:02
Speaker 9: are in Wyoming County, and I was texting them like, hey,
10:05
Speaker 9: are you all safe? This was before the flooding happened,
10:07
Speaker 9: you know, are you all okay? Are you somewhere where
10:10
Speaker 9: you're out of the way, And just it was a
10:12
Speaker 9: scary evening because I'm sitting at home in Saint Aubans.
10:15
Speaker 4: Yeah, it's not a whole lot you can do well.
10:17
Speaker 10: Can I Yeah?
10:17
Speaker 9: What help can I provide? So I think they're safe,
10:20
Speaker 9: they're good. But coming together afterwards to help our neighbors
10:25
Speaker 9: and help people who unfortunately lost a lot, yeah during
10:28
Speaker 9: that time is big.
10:30
Speaker 3: And anything you know, we have on our all of
10:32
Speaker 3: our social media, we have the list of everything that
10:34
Speaker 3: we're looking for. And again Rob kind of came up
10:36
Speaker 3: with the name of the bucket drive because we can
10:38
Speaker 3: fill those buckets with things. But look, anything people can
10:40
Speaker 3: give would be appreciated if they can get feed Like
10:43
Speaker 3: if you're at your local dollar store and you can
10:45
Speaker 3: afford one container of bleach. That's fine. You know, you
10:49
Speaker 3: give us, you know, some washbrag, whatever you can afford,
10:52
Speaker 3: and cash goes because we're giving it all to Union Mission,
10:55
Speaker 3: the folks at Union Mission, by the way, And I
10:57
Speaker 3: want to have Jason on a little bit later on.
10:59
Speaker 3: They're out on the parking lot all day. They got
11:01
Speaker 3: here about six point thirty this morning to set up.
11:03
Speaker 3: So if you're thinking about donating and your one, well,
11:06
Speaker 3: how exactly are they going to get this to the
11:09
Speaker 3: folks that need talk to Jason, I mean, when they're
11:12
Speaker 3: out on the parking lot, they'll explain exactly how they're
11:14
Speaker 3: going to do it. And Jill, I also appreciate you
11:17
Speaker 3: because you provided some Dirty Birds stuff for us to
11:21
Speaker 3: give to select people, random people out on the parking
11:23
Speaker 3: I'll talk about.
11:24
Speaker 8: That one absolutely. Just a little bit of an incentive.
11:26
Speaker 8: So we have two family four pack giveaways for the
11:29
Speaker 8: twenty twenty five season that is good for any game
11:31
Speaker 8: including opening Day on May second. So just a little
11:34
Speaker 8: incentive where maybe you drop off one one gallon of
11:37
Speaker 8: bleach and you walk away with four Dirty Birds tickets.
11:40
Speaker 3: And I want to give a big shout out to
11:41
Speaker 3: the folks at the local chick fil as here, Tom
11:44
Speaker 3: menturn anytime that we are doing something like this, whether
11:47
Speaker 3: it's sock drop, turkey drop, whatever, they show up with
11:50
Speaker 3: like a handful of cards for us to give to
11:52
Speaker 3: people for free breakfast, sandwiches and things of that nature.
11:55
Speaker 3: And plus they feed all of our volunteers here. So
11:57
Speaker 3: a big shout out to Tom Minturner and those folks. Yeah,
12:00
Speaker 3: I appreciate it. There's always you being here. Give me
12:02
Speaker 3: a quick commercial for the Dirty Birds. I've been talking
12:04
Speaker 3: about your your the festivities you have come up here
12:08
Speaker 3: in a couple of weeks.
12:09
Speaker 8: March eighth, so what two saturdays from now, it's our
12:12
Speaker 8: single game. Tickets go on sale, so we're celebrating that.
12:14
Speaker 8: Free inflatables on the field, free entry, check out, some
12:18
Speaker 8: discounted merch, discounted food, and of course Dusty and some
12:22
Speaker 8: Dirty Birds players will be there for pictures and autographs.
12:25
Speaker 4: And that's all free of charge, all free.
12:27
Speaker 8: Twelve to six on March eighth. Only thing you gotta
12:31
Speaker 8: pay for some food and some merch, but.
12:33
Speaker 3: You want it, but just to get in and take
12:34
Speaker 3: advantage of the inflatables and so on and so.
12:36
Speaker 4: Forth, no charge. All that is free it's gonna be
12:39
Speaker 4: a great season.
12:39
Speaker 3: I mean Dirty Birds did pretty well last sear I
12:42
Speaker 3: mean made it to the championship.
12:43
Speaker 8: Yep, first time the championship, and I think it was
12:45
Speaker 8: so gosh twenty years something like that, yeah, right around
12:48
Speaker 8: twenty years.
12:49
Speaker 3: Yeah, And this season is going to be even bigger, better,
12:51
Speaker 3: and we'll be spending a whole lot of time with
12:53
Speaker 3: you during the season as we always do. We'll get
12:55
Speaker 3: andy and we'll get the you know, all the players
12:57
Speaker 3: and stuff in here as we get ready for opening day.
12:59
Speaker 3: Because as I've been saying, and when I do your
13:00
Speaker 3: commercial every day, it can't get here soon enough. With
13:03
Speaker 3: this winter that we've met here in West Virginia, I
13:05
Speaker 3: want to be at Go Mart Ballpark.
13:07
Speaker 11: Yep.
13:07
Speaker 8: I'm ready for some hot dogs in the crack of
13:09
Speaker 8: the back.
13:10
Speaker 4: Absolutely.
13:11
Speaker 3: Whitney, thank you so much for your organization for being
13:13
Speaker 3: a part of this as well, because it's you know,
13:15
Speaker 3: just because you're a company here in the canav Valley
13:18
Speaker 3: doesn't mean or West Virginia that you have to take
13:20
Speaker 3: part in things. But you guys and the Dirty Birds
13:22
Speaker 3: and all these folks I mentioned that, you know, Chick
13:24
Speaker 3: fil A and all these people, they step up every time,
13:26
Speaker 3: and I really appreciate your guys involvement as well.
13:28
Speaker 10: It's our pleasure, happy to do it.
13:30
Speaker 3: And we'll be out on the parking lot again until
13:32
Speaker 3: six o'clock today. I don't know who all's out there now.
13:34
Speaker 3: Several somebody sent me a text that I have dirty
13:39
Speaker 3: birds in the hall.
13:40
Speaker 8: Oh yeah, we got Dusty's gonna be here soon, definitely.
13:43
Speaker 3: One of our new employees here says, sends me a
13:45
Speaker 3: text that I have dirty birds in the hall. I
13:47
Speaker 3: don't know exactly what that means. So are they're gonna
13:50
Speaker 3: be outside out on a lot?
13:51
Speaker 7: Yep.
13:51
Speaker 8: We're gonna have Dusty here for a little bit, all.
13:53
Speaker 4: Right, and maybe we'll see how it works out. How
13:55
Speaker 4: long are you all going to be here?
13:56
Speaker 8: Probably for another two hours?
13:58
Speaker 3: I say, okay, all right, so if you got some
13:59
Speaker 3: players out about nine fifty, if you want to maybe
14:01
Speaker 3: circle back and see if we can maybe get one
14:03

Speaker 3: going on for several years now. Is actually kicks off
17:50
Speaker 3: today in Charleston.
17:51
Speaker 4: Then we'll run through the weekend. It's the Celtic Calling Event.
17:53
Speaker 3: Ariana Kencaid is it Ariana, Ariana, Ariana, Ariana, none of
17:58
Speaker 3: the above. The kid Kate is with us to talk
18:01
Speaker 3: about it. Ariotta, good morning, welcome to the show.
18:03
Speaker 10: Thank you for having me.
18:04
Speaker 3: Thank you for being here. Someone is Celtic calling. I've
18:07
Speaker 3: had Chris and some other folks on the past to
18:10
Speaker 3: talk about it. But for those who may not know
18:12
Speaker 3: what is a Celtic calling.
18:13
Speaker 17: It is a celebration of Celtic heritage. In West Virginia
18:18
Speaker 17: and Appalachia. There are seven Celtic nations. Primarily the ones
18:24
Speaker 17: folks are most familiar with would be Ireland, Scotland, and Wales.
18:28
Speaker 17: And a lot of those folks settled here in West
18:30
Speaker 17: Virginia because it looked a lot like home, and we
18:33
Speaker 17: felt it was time to celebrate that, and so we've
18:37
Speaker 17: been doing that for nine or ten years now. This
18:41
Speaker 17: is our ninth celebration and so it gets started this
18:46
Speaker 17: evening and goes through Sunday.
18:47
Speaker 3: I think that's interesting that you bring that up, because
18:50
Speaker 3: I'm not much of a story but I do read
18:52
Speaker 3: some stuff from time to time, and this area, as
18:55
Speaker 3: you said, was very similar to the homeland for a
18:57
Speaker 3: lot of these people when they came here lately. I
18:59
Speaker 3: mean right down of the terrain, the weather and everything
19:01
Speaker 3: right looking.
19:02
Speaker 17: I mean, if if you've been to the British Isles
19:06
Speaker 17: and seen Ireland or Scotland, you know that I mean,
19:11
Speaker 17: I was struck the time that I've been over there
19:14
Speaker 17: that it it does.
19:16
Speaker 10: Look so much like home.
19:17
Speaker 17: And I was struck so much like with homesickness, you know,
19:20
Speaker 17: I was only going going for a few days, but
19:22
Speaker 17: that moment, it was just amazing to see how much
19:26
Speaker 17: Ireland and Scotland looked like home. And I got it
19:30
Speaker 17: in that moment that this did look like a place
19:33
Speaker 17: that was very familiar. And if you're going to be
19:35
Speaker 17: away from the people, you know, in love, you want
19:37
Speaker 17: to be on the land, you know.
19:39
Speaker 3: So, And not only did it look like it, but
19:41
Speaker 3: we have a lot of the same traits, you know,
19:44
Speaker 3: the same if get in the psychology aspect of it,
19:46
Speaker 3: and we have a lot of those same traits.
19:48
Speaker 4: Talk about that a little bit. You're laughing about that,
19:50
Speaker 4: but am I wrong?
19:52
Speaker 17: You're not wrong? Digging in being stubborn. Sure, yeah, that's
19:56
Speaker 17: what we do.
19:56
Speaker 4: That's what we do. Yeah.
19:58
Speaker 3: And again, you know, I'm kind of on this entire show,
20:01
Speaker 3: todam kind of wrapping it back around to our efforts
20:03
Speaker 3: out on the parking lot right there, this coming together
20:06
Speaker 3: of people hope we've already seen in our parking lot
20:09
Speaker 3: that's right from our forefathers, man, I mean, is it not.
20:11
Speaker 3: That's what they It's what they did to and this rugged,
20:13
Speaker 3: rugged individualism, as a certain radio talk show host.
20:17
Speaker 17: Used to say, but also a sense of community that
20:20
Speaker 17: you know, having a clan with whom you were affiliated
20:24
Speaker 17: and who you were you know, you swore to help,
20:28
Speaker 17: you swore fealty too, and you were there for them
20:31
Speaker 17: no matter what.
20:32
Speaker 10: And that's that's what we do.
20:34
Speaker 3: Talking about the Kelty College event. It's nine twenty eight
20:36
Speaker 3: but Dave Allen Show and five Idy Live brought to
20:38
Speaker 3: you in part by your hometown baseball team, the Charleston
20:40
Speaker 3: Dirty Birds again season kickoff party. You heard Jill talking
20:43
Speaker 3: about it. Go mart Ballpark Saturday, March eighth, noondal. Six
20:46
Speaker 3: season tickets available then free admission, all sorts of giveaways,
20:50
Speaker 3: many golf inflatables for the kids, picks with Dusty the mascot,
20:52
Speaker 3: and more. For visit more, visit dirty Birds Baseball dot
20:55
Speaker 3: com or check out the Dirty Birds Facebook page. All right,
20:58
Speaker 3: so talk about the things that are happening. I mean,
21:01
Speaker 3: you start today and you go through the weekend. Give
21:03
Speaker 3: us some of the activities.
21:04
Speaker 17: Well, this evening, we start out with the movie Kneecap
21:09
Speaker 17: at the floor Ley Clark Hark Cohen Cinema. It's twelve
21:14
Speaker 17: dollars adults, seven dollars in for students at seven point thirty.
21:20
Speaker 17: And that's an award winning movie that was nominated for
21:26
Speaker 17: several Bafto Awards, which they just recently held about hip
21:31
Speaker 17: hop group in Ireland. That is bringing back interest in
21:34
Speaker 17: the Gaelic language in Ireland.
21:38
Speaker 3: That's interesting in a hip hop group, Yes, bringing back
21:42
Speaker 3: interest in the Gaelic language.
21:44
Speaker 10: Yes, in Northern Ireland.
21:45
Speaker 4: Yeah, that's pretty good stuff.
21:47
Speaker 17: Yeah, it's really interesting and I've we've got a chance
21:51
Speaker 17: to see it this evening because of Celtic calling. And
21:55
Speaker 17: we also have a lot of events at the library
21:58
Speaker 17: and tomorrow the the Irish Road, i mean the Charleston
22:02
Speaker 17: Rogues are kicking things off at the short Story Brewing
22:08
Speaker 17: on Summer Street. We've got a lot of events and
22:11
Speaker 17: vendors Saturday at Slack Plaza downtown. Sunday we have the
22:16
Speaker 17: Irish Road bowling at Kanawa State Forest and the playwriting Contest.
22:23
Speaker 17: We perform those plays at four o'clock at short Story.
22:27
Speaker 10: There's also a.
22:28
Speaker 17: Storytelling contest on Saturday. There's the bastard bearded Irishman playing
22:36
Speaker 17: at the Empty Glass on Saturday night. There's some painting,
22:42
Speaker 17: there's let's see children's story walk and making take craft
22:48
Speaker 17: activities at Slack Plaza and at the Library, Scottish Attire,
22:55
Speaker 17: pop up shop at Roxy Cake Company, just so many
23:02
Speaker 17: different things. A kaylee at First Presby or Kanawa United
23:07
Speaker 17: Presbyterian Church with music by the Mudlarks. Just if you
23:12
Speaker 17: can't find something that that interests you, you are not
23:15
Speaker 17: looking for and that's that.
23:16
Speaker 4: That's on you.
23:17
Speaker 17: All this and a parade Saturday.
23:20
Speaker 3: At four, at a parade Saturday at four and to
23:22
Speaker 3: top it all off, we gotta we got a parade.
23:25
Speaker 3: So again this obviously, I mean you start off with
23:28
Speaker 3: this idea, you know, a few years ago to do
23:31
Speaker 3: this thing. And obviously, in the world of promotions, things
23:34
Speaker 3: don't continue if they're not popular. People in Charleston must
23:36
Speaker 3: really really dig.
23:37
Speaker 10: This, I think so.
23:39
Speaker 17: And it has grown every year we have I think
23:42
Speaker 17: we've added something every year. Foot Mad has has typically
23:48
Speaker 17: had a Celtic oriented concert that becomes one of our staples.
23:56
Speaker 10: Uh, it's like the.
23:57
Speaker 17: Cornerstone of the festival. On Saturday night this year is
24:02
Speaker 17: the Jeremiah's and the Jeremiahs are also going to be
24:04
Speaker 17: doing a workshop at at the library on Saturday. We've
24:11
Speaker 17: really had a lot of buy in from the local
24:14
Speaker 17: community and folks just wanting to be a big part
24:17
Speaker 17: of it. And I think not having had something that's
24:22
Speaker 17: celebrated the Celtic heritage, the Scottish, the Irish, the Welsh
24:30
Speaker 17: in this area for so long, people are excited for it. It
24:35
Speaker 17: is just a couple of weeks before Saint Patrick's Day,
24:38
Speaker 17: but it really does celebrate the culture and not just the.
24:44
Speaker 4: Maybe not just the.
24:45
Speaker 3: Commercialism, not just the commercialism, because I mean, let's face it,
24:48
Speaker 3: everybody loves a good Saint Patrick's party, but you know
24:51
Speaker 3: Saint Patrick's has become so commercialized. Yeah, much like other holidays,
24:56
Speaker 3: it has. And there's nothing wrong with that, a like,
24:58
Speaker 3: I'm ultimate capitalist, let's make money when we can.
25:00
Speaker 4: I get that.
25:01
Speaker 3: However, this is more about the culture and not just
25:04
Speaker 3: a two or three hour you know, reason to get
25:06
Speaker 3: drunk and have green beer.
25:08
Speaker 17: Right, and I love beer, the green not so much. Yeah,
25:14
Speaker 17: So I mean it's it's a good time to be
25:17
Speaker 17: to celebrate those things, the other things that are great
25:20
Speaker 17: about Saint Patrick's Day.
25:21
Speaker 10: Not just the beer.
25:24
Speaker 3: Now there's anything wrong with that all exactly there will be,
25:26
Speaker 3: But I would think that there is a lot of
25:29
Speaker 3: there are a lot of opportunities here are ina for
25:32
Speaker 3: for for education, uh, for the for for for the youngins.
25:35
Speaker 3: As we say in West Virginia, you know, to look
25:37
Speaker 3: at these and say, this is this is this is
25:40
Speaker 3: where you come from, this is this is your this
25:42
Speaker 3: is your people, this is our heritage.
25:44
Speaker 17: Absolutely, and there's there are also some genealogy workshops. There's
25:49
Speaker 17: a group the pop up shop at Rock City with
25:52
Speaker 17: the Tartans. That's a great time to learn why Tartans
25:55
Speaker 17: are a thing. The fact that they were outlawed after
26:00
Speaker 17: the Jacobite Uprising of seventeen forty five because it was
26:04
Speaker 17: such as it identified people with their areas in Scotland
26:10
Speaker 17: and the British. The English didn't want that. They wanted to,
26:15
Speaker 17: you know, keep them down trodden, so they outlawed the
26:18
Speaker 17: Tartans and they outlawed the bagpipes. And so looking at
26:21
Speaker 17: where your family came from with that, with that Scottish heritage,
26:25
Speaker 17: and knowing who your name, you know, what clan your
26:29
Speaker 17: name was affiliated with, and being able to look at
26:31
Speaker 17: how they identified themselves as is another educational activity that
26:36
Speaker 17: you could certainly stick around and learn about.
26:40
Speaker 4: Before we let you go, I want to I want
26:41
Speaker 4: to know about you.
26:42
Speaker 3: How did you get all this knowledge that you have
26:44
Speaker 3: is it's just something that you've studied your whole life.
26:47
Speaker 3: Obviously you're very passionate about it. I mean, talk about
26:50
Speaker 3: you for a little bit.
26:51
Speaker 17: Well, Kincaid is a Scottish clan and I have a
26:55
Speaker 17: cousin who was very into geology and Scottish history and.
27:04
Speaker 10: He taught me some of that.
27:06
Speaker 17: A few years ago at Grandfather Mountain in North Carolina.
27:13
Speaker 17: We went, we were there and Clan Kincaid was the
27:18
Speaker 17: honored clan and I got to meet our clan chief,
27:22
Speaker 17: who is Madam Arabella Kincaid, and she's a lovely woman,
27:28
Speaker 17: and it was just really fascinating to see all of that.
27:32
Speaker 10: And you know, we were at Stirling Castle.
27:35
Speaker 17: With Robert, Robert the Bruce and William Wallace and learning
27:40
Speaker 17: all of these things about how far our family name
27:44
Speaker 17: goes back, and how much it took to get to
27:48
Speaker 17: the United States and what it you know, what it
27:52
Speaker 17: must have been like to have to leave. It's just
27:54
Speaker 17: really fascinating to see what motivates people to pick up
27:59
Speaker 17: and leave somewhere and start over somewhere else. And history
28:02
Speaker 17: is just people's motivations are always really fascinating.
28:05
Speaker 4: I agree.
28:06
Speaker 3: You have a text here for you. It says, is
28:08
Speaker 3: there a cost for the genealogy workshop?
28:11
Speaker 10: Let me check. I don't believe so.
28:17
Speaker 4: I need the Jeopardy theme here. That's all right, that's
28:21
Speaker 4: all right. I got to put you on the spot here.
28:22
Speaker 3: But hey, at least you know one person's listening, right, Yeah, absolutely,
28:26
Speaker 3: we're looking.
28:31
Speaker 10: We're looking. There's also a Celtic arms demonstration.
28:41
Speaker 3: Where is the best place while you're looking? If you
28:44
Speaker 3: can multitask here, I'm sure you can't. Where's the best
28:46
Speaker 3: place for people? Because you threw out a lot of
28:48
Speaker 3: information website. I know you have a social media page
28:50
Speaker 3: and you have a Facebook page dot org celticcalling dot

29:32

32:57
Speaker 3: But I want to welcome into the show now Senator
32:59
Speaker 3: Eric Tarr, who's not here, but he's in the belly
33:01
Speaker 3: of the Beast of the Capitol.
33:02
Speaker 2: Good morning, sir, and good morning Dave.
33:04
Speaker 15: How are you this morning?
33:05
Speaker 3: Bye, Thank you for being here, and welcome back to
33:08
Speaker 3: the show. How before we get into what you're here
33:10
Speaker 3: to talk about, Center how's session been so far?
33:13
Speaker 15: You know, it's a little slower pace and then what
33:17
Speaker 15: we've seen in previous years. I get that question a
33:19
Speaker 15: lot because you know, it says where we've had a
33:21
Speaker 15: third legislature switch over and then we have a new
33:24
Speaker 15: governor's administration. There's a lot of people who are just
33:26
Speaker 15: learning the ropes, which I believe has kind of slowed
33:29
Speaker 15: the process down a little bit. You know, usually out
33:31
Speaker 15: of the Senate, we've by this point, we've probably passed
33:34
Speaker 15: anywhere between twenty five and forty bills, and we're probably
33:38
Speaker 15: knocking on ten bills you know, come out of now.
33:41
Speaker 15: So it's just a little bit slower pace, tends to
33:43
Speaker 15: be a little more legwork on the back end to
33:46
Speaker 15: go through things that were just kind of more automatic
33:48
Speaker 15: in the past.
33:49
Speaker 3: So I want to talk about a bill, a Senator
33:51
Speaker 3: that you sponsored, SB two O four. It would make
33:54
Speaker 3: opioid treatment programs using, as best I understand it, on
33:58
Speaker 3: site administration or the dispensing of substances and in that
34:03
Speaker 3: think methadone things like that make those illegal in the
34:07
Speaker 3: state of West Virginia. Why did you put your name
34:09
Speaker 3: on this bill as a sponsor?
34:10
Speaker 8: Sir?
34:12
Speaker 15: You know, it's no secret where West Virginia stands as
34:15
Speaker 15: far as our addiction for capita and overdose for capita,
34:19
Speaker 15: we are the highest in the country at the number
34:23
Speaker 15: of people we have that are addicted tobioids in West
34:26
Speaker 15: Virginia are in the country. And then on the overdose
34:29
Speaker 15: same thing, and the next closest state to us, which
34:31
Speaker 15: I believe is Tennessee, we double their rate. How far
34:34
Speaker 15: above it we are. In addition to that, you know
34:39
Speaker 15: the Westrnias GDP. So if you take every dollar that's
34:42
Speaker 15: spent in West Virginia on anything as a little over
34:44
Speaker 15: eighty billion dollars, and there was a study back in
34:46
Speaker 15: twenty sixteen and this is and it's got worse since then,
34:50
Speaker 15: but about ten percent of West Virginia's GDP went toward
34:55
Speaker 15: the drug problem that we have, and so it was
34:57
Speaker 15: over eight billion dollars a year and some fashion there's
35:00
Speaker 15: a dollar spent to go after addiction. So what has
35:05
Speaker 15: happened in West Virginia over those years is that we
35:08
Speaker 15: have kind of thrown every possible thing you can at
35:11
Speaker 15: addiction to see if you could curb this. Nationally, there's
35:15
Speaker 15: been the curb down, but in Westervirgnia follows that trandnationally,
35:17
Speaker 15: so it's not anything that wester Renia has done specifically,
35:21
Speaker 15: But in spite of all that, our addiction rates have
35:24
Speaker 15: climb to climb and climb for years. So one of
35:27
Speaker 15: the things that we've seen is that because of throwing
35:31
Speaker 15: all those funds at it, is that with West Virginia
35:34
Speaker 15: and trying to solve the problem has created an industry
35:37
Speaker 15: that thrives on the problem. And they it's it's a profiteer.
35:41
Speaker 15: So as long as people stay addicted and they turn
35:44
Speaker 15: through these meals you have, you have these rehab facilities,
35:47
Speaker 15: and you have treatment you know, and I'm gonna put that,
35:50
Speaker 15: you know, I'm losing that term loosely, treatment facilities that
35:55
Speaker 15: are attracting people who would be addicted and.
36:00
Speaker 2: Hoping.
36:01
Speaker 15: There's no hope for cure. There's absolutely no intention for cure.
36:04
Speaker 15: It's just that they're going to run these people through
36:06
Speaker 15: until there's no money and there's plenty of people waiting
36:08
Speaker 15: to take their spot, and they dump them on the
36:09
Speaker 15: streets western you and go. So one of the things
36:12
Speaker 15: that as we conquered pain clinics, which were part of
36:15
Speaker 15: what really got this thing started plus. Back in the nineties,
36:17
Speaker 15: you know that pain was considered a fifth indicator of
36:22
Speaker 15: things that you had to address, just like you address
36:25
Speaker 15: your blood pressure, your heart rate and those type of things.
36:27
Speaker 15: You had to look at pain. And in doing so
36:30
Speaker 15: oxycon and oxicodone, a lot of stuff became available, and
36:32
Speaker 15: then you have pain. Clinics thought, you know what, we
36:33
Speaker 15: can make money on this, and that's almost all they did.
36:35
Speaker 15: They just pushed that stuff and got a lot of
36:37
Speaker 15: people addicted. We squashed that a good while back, and
36:42
Speaker 15: so now what's taken that place that they stand along
36:44
Speaker 15: methadone clinics, which they stand along methadone clinics don't have
36:47
Speaker 15: wrap around services, They don't have the facilities there to
36:51
Speaker 15: treat you. What they do is they build out methadone,
36:54
Speaker 15: which is just another narcotic that has no intention of
37:00
Speaker 15: getting you off your addiction cycle.
37:02
Speaker 2: It just lowered it.
37:03
Speaker 15: It makes you a functional addict. And there's also you
37:05
Speaker 15: can sell the methodone, so it's easily diverted. If you
37:08
Speaker 15: go to one of the methadone clinics, you can pay cash,
37:10
Speaker 15: get your methodone, turn around, meet somebody else out in
37:12
Speaker 15: the street, and sell it. So it attracts the market
37:15
Speaker 15: to these centers. So West Virginia few years back, we
37:17
Speaker 15: put a moratorium on them because we realize that man,
37:20
Speaker 15: these things are these things are geting out of control.
37:21
Speaker 15: They were trying to pop up everywhere because they were
37:23
Speaker 15: so cash rich. A bunch of people from outside of
37:25
Speaker 15: West Virginia opening these businesses to keep turning this mill
37:30
Speaker 15: of people addicted. So what this does. This bill intends
37:35
Speaker 15: to outlaw stand along methadone clinics. And that's I think
37:40
Speaker 15: that that's a good thing for West Virginia because what
37:43
Speaker 15: we are doing is not a service to a person
37:45
Speaker 15: who's addicted, unless you're just wanting to continue to foster
37:49
Speaker 15: their addiction. So that's the intent of the bill. There's
37:53
Speaker 15: been a lot of them on the short tile of
37:55
Speaker 15: the bill's unfortunately, I think other than I think it's
37:57
Speaker 15: actually brought it to people's attention and we get to
37:59
Speaker 15: have this discussion. Is that the short tile of bills
38:02
Speaker 15: that came out said, I think it's outlawing, outlawing opioid
38:06
Speaker 15: treatment centers, But you have to look in the bill.
38:09
Speaker 15: So if you just go off that you have a
38:10
Speaker 15: bunch of groups out there, then aha, here's our opportunity
38:13
Speaker 15: to fight this. He's outlawed centered tars, trying to outlaw
38:16
Speaker 15: all the treatments for addiction.
38:18
Speaker 12: That's not the case.
38:18
Speaker 3: Yeah, And I want to and I read through the
38:20
Speaker 3: bills and again we're talking with Senat derreic Tar. I
38:22
Speaker 3: read the bill yes yesterday and people can read it
38:25
Speaker 3: from themselves as SB two oh four. This is not
38:27
Speaker 3: outlawing treatment facility such as as you said, rehabilitation centers
38:32
Speaker 3: that are offering counseling and I think maybe a recovery
38:35
Speaker 3: point or something like that.
38:36
Speaker 4: This is not what this is intended to do. Senator
38:39
Speaker 4: am I right, Yeah, that's correct me.
38:41
Speaker 15: If you go down and you look at opioid treatment
38:43
Speaker 15: center for this section of code, it's defined and that
38:46
Speaker 15: definition is there to essentially define a methadone clinic. So
38:51
Speaker 15: we're trying to capture that. In the bill, there's opioid
38:56
Speaker 15: agonist and partial agonist, and a partial agonist would be
38:59
Speaker 15: something like box own. And when we were first contemplating
39:02
Speaker 15: the bill, which is bill I think as a bill
39:03
Speaker 15: ran last year as well, we wanted a discussion. We
39:07
Speaker 15: come out to see how and where that's being used
39:10
Speaker 15: as well. Some of the things that as these as
39:13
Speaker 15: this industry continues to evolve, there's things that get past
39:17
Speaker 15: us as regulators, I guess and as as legislators that
39:22
Speaker 15: sometimes it's new so fast that it's a problem before
39:25
Speaker 15: we ever start to know that as a problem we
39:28
Speaker 15: need to address. That's happened with our pure recovery homes.
39:32
Speaker 15: They're they're another thing that that is just dumping people
39:35
Speaker 15: from all over the country on the streets of West Virginia.
39:37
Speaker 15: Addicted that we have to figure out how to get
39:39
Speaker 15: in and get a handle on. These type of businesses
39:44
Speaker 15: are part of what grows that that that spend on
39:47
Speaker 15: our upwood program programs, and there's over ten percent of
39:51
Speaker 15: our GDP because it's so profitable even if you don't
39:56
Speaker 15: produce results, and we are we have proven and in
40:00
Speaker 15: in a very large fashion, that our rehabilitation efforts in
40:04
Speaker 15: West Virginia are not bending the curve. So if it's not,
40:10
Speaker 15: then why do we continue to grow to spend on it.
40:12
Speaker 15: So we should be able to go back and look
40:14
Speaker 15: at things that have obviously failed, things that actually sustain
40:18
Speaker 15: addiction and eliminate those mistakes for having allowed it. And
40:21
Speaker 15: this is one of those mistakes. And I think the
40:23
Speaker 15: conversation needs to happen.
40:24
Speaker 4: Just be two to oh four.
40:26
Speaker 3: Senator Eric Tar will be following it closely. I appreciate
40:29
Speaker 3: you being here. We'll talk again soon. Thanks a lot.
40:31

40:47
Speaker 3: I think it's very important to point out, as Senator
40:50
Speaker 3: Tar did there, that this has to be two o four,
40:52
Speaker 3: does not go after rehabilitation centers that are offering counseling,
40:56
Speaker 3: because anyone will tell you it's there's a if you
41:00
Speaker 3: want to get off something, there's a big component. It's
41:02
Speaker 3: not just the physical aspect of getting off of it.
41:05
Speaker 3: There's the emotional, the psychological that goes with it too.
41:08
Speaker 3: And a lot of these facilies, not all, but a
41:10
Speaker 3: lot of these facilities they pretty much give you your
41:12
Speaker 3: stuff and send you on your way. And that's not
41:15

Speaker 3: the GOP Trump tax policy. Anyone making over three hundred
45:30
Speaker 3: and sixty thousand dollars a year will get a tax decrease.
45:33
Speaker 3: Anyone making less will not. Anyone making between one hundred
45:36
Speaker 3: and fifty seven thousand and twenty nine thousand per year,
45:38
Speaker 3: we'll see their taxes raised six hundred and ten dollars
45:41
Speaker 3: to fifteen hundred dollars. So pretty much all West Virginias
45:43
Speaker 3: will have their federal taxes raised under Trump's plan, says
45:47
Speaker 3: the text. Let's go back to our flood recovery efforts,
45:49
Speaker 3: of course, on the parking not eleven eleven Virginia Street,
45:51
Speaker 3: Das and Charleston brought to you by Members Choice, Federal
45:53
Speaker 3: Credit Union, the Charleston Dirty Birds and Union Mission. We're
45:56
Speaker 3: out there till six o'clock tonight collecting stuff, and I've
45:59
Speaker 3: got Troy mclaugh and Brian Roberts Remunion Mission with me.
46:02
Speaker 18: Now.
46:02
Speaker 4: Gentlemen, good morning, welcome to the show. Good morning, thanks
46:05
Speaker 4: for having us. How's it going out there, guys? Brian
46:06
Speaker 4: gonna start with you, how's it going. It's going well.
46:08
Speaker 21: We've got a rather large truck out there, and it's
46:11
Speaker 21: getting rather full, so we need to keep it up.
46:15
Speaker 21: It's it's warming up today, so we're appreciative of everybody
46:19
Speaker 21: coming out and donating.
46:20
Speaker 3: Yeah, and and Troy, I tell you, I understand there
46:23
Speaker 3: is another truck I've been told coming this afternoon around
46:26
Speaker 3: two or three o'clock or so, and it's going to
46:29
Speaker 3: have even more stuff coming. But we don't want people
46:31
Speaker 3: to think with this that you know, you got to
46:33
Speaker 3: break a truck up. You know, we'll take that. But
46:35
Speaker 3: if you could, as Rob said earlier, if you're at
46:37
Speaker 3: your local dollar store, maybe run out under lunch break
46:40
Speaker 3: or something, going to the post office, if you can
46:41
Speaker 3: give us a gallon of bleach, you know, whatever you
46:44
Speaker 3: could afford, we'll take it.
46:45
Speaker 22: Oh, it's awesome. Yeah, And the fact that way you
46:46
Speaker 22: guys got to set up it's perfect. People can just
46:48
Speaker 22: drive through real quickly, don't even have to get out
46:50
Speaker 22: of the car. We were standing out there earlier today
46:53
Speaker 22: and two ladies are out exercise, and they stopped and
46:56
Speaker 22: she grabbed her wallet out of her pocket there and
46:59
Speaker 22: and gave us some cash and we'll take all of
47:02
Speaker 22: that we can. Obviously, with our purchasing power, we can
47:04
Speaker 22: take cash and convert that into the products we need
47:07
Speaker 22: at a little bit better than retail price. But yeah,
47:09
Speaker 22: if people want to drive up and just hand us
47:13
Speaker 22: some cash, give us a bucket, give us a box
47:15
Speaker 22: of Kleanex, whatever, whatever we got, we'll take it.
47:18
Speaker 4: We'll take it.
47:19
Speaker 3: And again, you guys at Union mentioned are going to
47:21
Speaker 3: make sure that that's been distributed. I had when adjacent
47:24
Speaker 3: On the show yesterday he talked about that, and we've
47:26
Speaker 3: already got the contacts made with people down in McDowell County,
47:30
Speaker 3: Wyoming County to make sure it gets to the people
47:32
Speaker 3: that need it because it's people are hurting, man, they
47:34
Speaker 3: really are.
47:35
Speaker 22: Yeah, it's definitely a rough situation down there. And the
47:39
Speaker 22: fact that we do have communication with key contact points
47:43
Speaker 22: in these counties, then we can drive straight down there, unload,
47:47
Speaker 22: come back and get another load if we need to,
47:49
Speaker 22: so we can keep serving as long as the needs there.
47:52
Speaker 3: But Dave Aland Show on five eighty Live is brought
47:54
Speaker 3: you in part by Meeks Realty Group. Looking for experience.
47:57
Speaker 3: You can trust Rich the realtor at Meeks is one
47:59
Speaker 3: of the area premieer agent specializing in both commercial and
48:02
Speaker 3: residential real estate for expert guidance and proven results called
48:05
Speaker 3: mes Realty Group. Contact Rich three zero four nine three
48:08
Speaker 3: two seventy four eighty eight or email our client that's
48:11
Speaker 3: climbed with a k at Meekesrealtygroup dot Com. As I said,
48:13
Speaker 3: you couldn't ask for better weather. I mean when we
48:15
Speaker 3: did the sock drop out here, Man Ashley in her
48:18
Speaker 3: office as I mentioned this earlier, was what kind of
48:20
Speaker 3: the one that put this thing? To help us put
48:21
Speaker 3: this thing together? And she said, we couldn't get people
48:23
Speaker 3: out there in the parking lot. Now on a day
48:25
Speaker 3: like today, these people that are supposed to set behind
48:27
Speaker 3: their cubicles and do sales and things of that nature,
48:30
Speaker 3: they all want to be outside today.
48:32
Speaker 4: Exactly.
48:32
Speaker 22: Yeah, it's it's definitely a change from the last time.
48:36
Speaker 22: So it's welcome and hopefully it gets more people out
48:39
Speaker 22: and coming by and just be.
48:41
Speaker 4: Able to enjoy this beautiful weather.
48:42
Speaker 3: And I know that, Troy, I know you had a
48:44
Speaker 3: lot of the marketing for Union Mission, talk about the
48:46
Speaker 3: overall mission of Union Mission, either one that you can
48:49
Speaker 3: jump in here, but go.
48:50
Speaker 22: Ahead yeah, so our tagline is, you know, we feed people.
48:53
Speaker 22: So that's that's where the mission. The Mission is one
48:55
Speaker 22: hundred and thirteen years old and has been serving the
48:57
Speaker 22: greater Charleston central West Virginia area for that many years.
49:00
Speaker 22: It's it's it's just an incredible organization. It's been a
49:03
Speaker 22: real pleasure to work with them. But yeah, we have
49:06
Speaker 22: addiction recovery services, we have disaster recovery services like we're
49:11
Speaker 22: experiencing now, emergency relief. We have homeless opportunities there with
49:16
Speaker 22: our our shelter downtown, so we serve men in that
49:20
Speaker 22: and that's capacity. So it's it's just been a great organization.
49:24
Speaker 22: We look at adapting over the last century. We've adapted
49:29
Speaker 22: to what the West Virginia need is. Back in the day,
49:32
Speaker 22: we used to have a mattress factory. We we dealt
49:34
Speaker 22: a lot with alcohol addiction, there was gambling addictions. It's
49:37
Speaker 22: just wherever the need was, Union Mission has always adapted
49:40
Speaker 22: to try to fit that need.
49:41
Speaker 3: And this is another example of that because you know,
49:44
Speaker 3: again I told the story yesterday, we were in our
49:47
Speaker 3: office substairs and talking about what we could do about
49:50
Speaker 3: a week or so ago and I get a text
49:52
Speaker 3: from Jason. It just says, hey, what can we do,
49:54
Speaker 3: and like okay, here we go. You know, it's another
49:56
Speaker 3: great partnership between Union Mission and WVRC Media. And we're
50:00
Speaker 3: as I said, we're going to be out there on
50:02
Speaker 3: the parking lot until six o'clock tonight, and we are
50:06
Speaker 3: blessed here to have this facility that we have because
50:10
Speaker 3: people could literally drive through. They never have to get
50:12
Speaker 3: out of their car. I mean, you may want to
50:13
Speaker 3: get out of your car and stretch a little bit
50:15
Speaker 3: on a nice day like today, but you don't have to.
50:17
Speaker 3: And we've got a staff out there all of our
50:19
Speaker 3: stations from V one hundred to CHS, the Mountain, Kaz,
50:24
Speaker 3: the Beats, you know, all of us, all of our stations, Kaz,
50:29
Speaker 3: We're all out there. All the personalities are lack of
50:32
Speaker 3: Sometimes we'll be out there. We bring the sales weasels
50:34
Speaker 3: out there and make them do a little work too.
50:35
Speaker 3: In the office. People, it's a great chance to come
50:37
Speaker 3: hang out with us as if that's an incentive. Plus,
50:40
Speaker 3: we are choosing people at random for giveaways from some
50:44
Speaker 3: station gear. I mentioned Tom Minturn at Chick fil A's
50:47
Speaker 3: providing lunch for us today and every so often we'll
50:50
Speaker 3: just go grab a car and say here, go get
50:52
Speaker 3: yourself free chicken. I think it's breakfast breakfast biscuit from
50:57
Speaker 3: the folks at Chick fil A. So we're doing that
50:59
Speaker 3: as well. The Dirty Birds are out there as of
51:01
Speaker 3: right now, is Dusty still out there? Dusty the mascot
51:04
Speaker 3: is out there for the next couple of hours. I
51:06
Speaker 3: think some Dirty Bird players are out there on the
51:08
Speaker 3: parking lot as well. It's just a great partnership and
51:10
Speaker 3: we appreciate you guys being a part of it as well.
51:13
Speaker 3: Now I think it's time for you to get back outside. Now, yeah,
51:16
Speaker 3: we got to get back to work.
51:17
Speaker 4: Appreciate you. Guess Jason's tough. I mean, he's really a
51:20
Speaker 4: tough guy to work for us.
51:21
Speaker 3: Better better get back And by the way, we're documenting
51:24
Speaker 3: a lot of this on social media. You can follow
51:26
Speaker 3: the Union Mission. We did a little Facebook video out
51:28
Speaker 3: there earlier. It's on the Union Mission Facebook page. All
51:31
Speaker 3: of our stations have information on our social media pages
51:34
Speaker 3: as well, So we guys, we appreciate you be here.
51:36
Speaker 3: Troy McClung and Brian Roberts from Union Mission, thanks a lot, guys,
51:39
Speaker 3: Get it now.
51:40
Speaker 4: Get back to work. You'll do it all right.
51:43
Speaker 3: Text says Haha, Shelley Capito taking questions on the show.
51:48
Speaker 3: I mean, look, you know, Senator Capito is always welcome
51:50
Speaker 3: on the show. She's been on the show many times.
51:53
Speaker 3: She's been on the show many many times in the past.
51:55
Speaker 3: So anytime she wants to come on here, she wants
51:57
Speaker 3: to take questions or comments, she's.
51:59
Speaker 4: Always more than welcome.
52:01
Speaker 3: I do want to quickly remind you that we are
52:03
