- 0:07Speaker 1: It's their Happy Family's Podcast. Okay, Kylie, So technically we're
- 0:14Speaker 1: on holidays, but we're trying to keep the podcast going
- 0:17Speaker 1: through the break. We've got some great content for summer,
- 0:20Speaker 1: but we're going to keep it really short, really tight.
- 0:22Speaker 1: This is the busiest week of the year. We've got Christmas.
- 0:26Speaker 1: It's this week. It's this Sunday Christmas. Can you believe it?
- 0:30Speaker 1: Before we dive into three secrets to getting through the
- 0:33Speaker 1: busiest week of the year, you found something on Instagram
- 0:36Speaker 1: and we kind of just have it. We've got to
- 0:38Speaker 1: have a listen to this for any for any parent
- 0:41Speaker 1: of a teenager or someone who's going to be a
- 0:42Speaker 1: parent of a teenager one day, just bear this in
- 0:45Speaker 1: mind and say this to them when they're giving you
- 0:47Speaker 1: some attitude.
- 0:48Speaker 2: I want to talk to the teenagers right now who
- 0:51Speaker 2: get annoyed with their mom. I'm got to tell you something.
- 0:58Speaker 2: There was a time when you loved her so much,
- 1:02Speaker 2: you were so obsessed with your mom that you would
- 1:08Speaker 2: beg to watch her poop. That's right. You would sit
- 1:11Speaker 2: outside her door, banging and crying to be let in.
- 1:18Speaker 2: And if she gave up and opened that door to
- 1:22Speaker 2: let you in.
- 1:22Speaker 3: You know what you tried to do.
- 1:23Speaker 2: You tried to sit on her lap like some kind
- 1:26Speaker 2: of sick go stalker weirdo. Okay, so the next time
- 1:31Speaker 2: you start looking at your mom feeling too good for her,
- 1:34Speaker 2: she's getting on your nerves, remember that.
- 1:37Speaker 1: Okay, good, so good. So that is Anna dot lind
- 1:42Speaker 1: dot Thomas. Anna dot lind dot Thomas. We found her
- 1:45Speaker 1: on Instagram. She's also on TikTok and she's pretty down funny.
- 1:48Speaker 1: She says some funny stuff. Anyway, busiest week of the yekli.
- 1:51Speaker 1: Let's get down to it because people are busy and
- 1:53Speaker 1: I don't want to listen too much comedy on Instagram.
- 1:54Speaker 1: They can find themselves. I want to hear from you.
- 1:57Speaker 1: How do we keep calm, how do we hold together?
- 1:59Speaker 1: How do we make everything work when it comes to
- 2:01Speaker 1: getting through a week like this? Instead of me giving
- 2:04Speaker 1: the advice today, this is your specialty, because this week
- 2:06Speaker 1: I kind of well. I take the kids surfing, I
- 2:09Speaker 1: take them to the beach, I hang out and watch
- 2:11Speaker 1: movies with them. You're the one that's doing all the
- 2:13Speaker 1: hard work. So what's your advice.
- 2:15Speaker 3: I've just got three bits of advice.
- 2:17Speaker 1: Okay. Number one, hit us with it.
- 2:19Speaker 3: Be intentional. You need to plan. If you've got four
- 2:22Speaker 3: days leading up to Christmas, what do those four days
- 2:25Speaker 3: look like. You don't have to have every minute taken
- 2:28Speaker 3: into account, but you need to know what are the
- 2:30Speaker 3: most important things you need to get done.
- 2:33Speaker 1: So it's saying it to do lists.
- 2:34Speaker 3: Yeah, I guess, so just make sure the important things
- 2:37Speaker 3: are done, because we can so easily get sidetracked with
- 2:41Speaker 3: all of the trivial stuff and then come Christmas Day
- 2:44Speaker 3: we're flustered because none of the stuff that was important
- 2:47Speaker 3: got done in the leader.
- 2:49Speaker 1: But that's also part of the reason that I'm on
- 2:51Speaker 1: my list. I've actually got a list of all the
- 2:52Speaker 1: stuff that I've had to chase up. But on my
- 2:55Speaker 1: list every day is play with the kids. That's right,
- 2:58Speaker 1: because I don't want to get to Christmas Day and
- 2:59Speaker 1: be like, oh my goodness, we're halfway through the holidays
- 3:01Speaker 1: already and I haven't even spent any time with the kids.
- 3:03Speaker 1: So put that on my list as well. What's your
- 3:09Speaker 1: second idea? Rather than being intentional, I don't.
- 3:11Speaker 3: Say no all. It's so easy again to just say
- 3:16Speaker 3: yes to everything because you don't want to miss out.
- 3:18Speaker 3: Do you want the kids to have the excitement of,
- 3:20Speaker 3: you know, going to all the Christmas parties and being
- 3:22Speaker 3: with their friends. But if it doesn't fit in with
- 3:25Speaker 3: the family plan, then you just need to say no.
- 3:27Speaker 1: So what have you said no to?
- 3:29Speaker 3: Well, we've sitting known to a couple of things, have
- 3:31Speaker 3: we Yeah, we had a community don't even know. We
- 3:33Speaker 3: had a community Christmas party which we.
- 3:35Speaker 1: Oh, yeah, which it just didn't fit in yep, yep
- 3:38Speaker 1: for the school.
- 3:39Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 3:39Speaker 1: And there's also the church one that we didn't go
- 3:41Speaker 1: to as well because it didn't fit. We just couldn't
- 3:44Speaker 1: make it happen. You know what I've been doing. I've
- 3:45Speaker 1: been getting text messages, emails and phone calls from media
- 3:49Speaker 1: outlets saying we need you on the radio? Can you
- 3:51Speaker 1: do an interview for us? Can you? And I've been
- 3:52Speaker 1: saying I'm not taking any interviews across summer. I'm with
- 3:55Speaker 1: my family. In fact, I've tried not to answer the
- 3:57Speaker 1: phone at all, but every now and again I've answered
- 3:59Speaker 1: it and then I've had to say no to them.
- 4:00Speaker 3: Well, unfortunately, if you didn't answer the phone, we might
- 4:03Speaker 3: not have known that our daughter was sitting on the
- 4:05Speaker 3: side of the road.
- 4:06Speaker 1: Which is why I've got to answer the phone, right,
- 4:07Speaker 1: I mean, I have to answer the phone. What's your
- 4:10Speaker 1: third one? Other than you've got be intentional say though.
- 4:13Speaker 3: Well, after the last few weeks that we've had and
- 4:15Speaker 3: the situations we've found ourselves in, it might look and
- 4:18Speaker 3: feel like it's out of place, but it actually fits
- 4:20Speaker 3: in beautifully. It's people matter. Things don't right, and when
- 4:24Speaker 3: we think about Christmas, we get so caught up often
- 4:28Speaker 3: in all of this stuff. But the reality is what
- 4:32Speaker 3: matters most is the people in your life and that
- 4:34Speaker 3: they know that they're loved and time with them is
- 4:37Speaker 3: so much more beneficial and strengthening to the family unit
- 4:42Speaker 3: than any gift.
- 4:43Speaker 1: Yeah, great reminder, And if the kids are giving attitude,
- 4:46Speaker 1: just remind me, just remind them when you were young
- 4:48Speaker 1: you love me so much? Used to what I'll watch people, poopeople,
- 4:53Speaker 1: let's discuss. The Happy Family's podcast is produced by Justin
- 4:56Speaker 1: Roland for Bridge Media. Craig Bruce is our executive producer.
- 4:58Speaker 1: Have a great week as we move into Christmas, and
- 5:01Speaker 1: we will talk to you again tomorrow.
