Tomás Iglesias, the DCS and SIS integration engineer at the vendor's FAT shop, has integrated forty-two package skids into control systems over his career, and every one was a hand-made bridge of Modbus registers, spreadsheets and phone calls. Leila Darwish, the plant's digital twin and data architect, wants the next expansion at the Al Sahil Gas Complex to be different. Using a chemical injection skid as their test case, they work through OPC UA, the Module Type Package and Ethernet-APL, and find out which parts of "plug and produce" are ready today and which are still a promise.
