- 0:16Speaker 1: Welcome into This is the Life podcast, getting ready for
- 0:19Speaker 1: our morning moments with Jesus. I was looking in Judges
- 0:22Speaker 1: chapter 6 this morning, and particularly in verses 12 through 14,
- 0:26Speaker 1: I really was kind of looking at this story of Gideon,
- 0:29Speaker 1: and God just really began to speak to me about
- 0:32Speaker 1: sometimes we don't spend enough time Seeing our true potential.
- 0:36Speaker 1: And I'm talking about the potential that God sees in us.
- 0:40Speaker 1: Not that sometimes we try to see in ourselves. And
- 0:44Speaker 1: in Judges 6 this morning. Like I said verse 12
- 0:46Speaker 1: through 14. The word of God says this. And the
- 0:49Speaker 1: angel of the Lord appeared unto him. And said unto him.
- 0:55Speaker 1: The Lord is with thee. Thou mighty man of valor.
- 0:59Speaker 1: I want you to underline that. And Gideon said unto him.
- 1:03Speaker 1: Oh my Lord. If the Lord be with us, why
- 1:07Speaker 1: then is all this befallen us? And where be all
- 1:11Speaker 1: his miracles which our fathers told us of? Saying, Did
- 1:16Speaker 1: not the Lord bring us up from Egypt? But now
- 1:20Speaker 1: the Lord hath forsaken us and delivered us into the
- 1:23Speaker 1: hands of the Midianites. And the Lord looked upon him
- 1:27Speaker 1: and said, Go, in this thy might. And thou shalt
- 1:33Speaker 1: save Israel from the hand of the Midianites. Have not
- 1:39Speaker 1: I sent thee? And when I read that, I think
- 1:42Speaker 1: about this. When the angel spoke those words to Gideon,
- 1:46Speaker 1: Gideon was hiding from the Midianites. And he did not
- 1:49Speaker 1: look like a mighty man of valor at that point.
- 1:52Speaker 1: He was just trying to protect what little wheat he
- 1:55Speaker 1: had and make it through another day. Yet God addressed him.
- 2:00Speaker 1: according to what he knew was in Gideon and what
- 2:04Speaker 1: Gideon would soon become. Y'all see that? In the midst
- 2:09Speaker 1: of Gideon's problem, God saw his potential. We really need
- 2:15Speaker 1: to grab hold because that's worth remembering when you look
- 2:18Speaker 1: at your own life. We often measure our potential by
- 2:22Speaker 1: what we've already accomplished. Or maybe we think about the
- 2:26Speaker 1: opportunities we missed and the fears that we have not
- 2:29Speaker 1: overcome yet. Maybe the things that we still don't know
- 2:33Speaker 1: how to do or haven't been able to do in
- 2:35Speaker 1: our lives. We assume that because we feel insecure, we
- 2:40Speaker 1: must not be ready for anything more than what we
- 2:43Speaker 1: already have. But oh, Gideon had questions too. He wondered
- 2:48Speaker 1: why his people were suffering and he struggled to believe
- 2:52Speaker 1: that he could help them in any way. God did
- 2:55Speaker 1: not wait. This is important. As I looked at this
- 2:57Speaker 1: this morning, God did not wait for Gideon to become
- 3:00Speaker 1: confident before he called him. He met him in the
- 3:05Speaker 1: middle of his uncertainty and his insecurities and he promised
- 3:09Speaker 1: he would be with him. And this morning, maybe you
- 3:14Speaker 1: are in a season right now where you cannot see
- 3:17Speaker 1: beyond today's responsibilities, today's issues, today's obstacles, today's problems. You
- 3:25Speaker 1: are doing what is in front of you, but sometimes
- 3:29Speaker 1: and somewhere inside, you wonder whether there is more that
- 3:33Speaker 1: God has for your life than what you're doing right now.
- 3:38Speaker 1: That may be. Still, you do not have to discover
- 3:41Speaker 1: that all at once. Gideon didn't. Moses didn't. None of
- 3:46Speaker 1: the ones in the Word of God did, and no
- 3:49Speaker 1: minister or no person alive today has ever done it
- 3:53Speaker 1: all at once. Gideon's first step was simply to listen
- 3:56Speaker 1: to God. His second step was to respond to God.
- 4:00Speaker 1: And then the strength he needed would become clear as
- 4:05Speaker 1: he continued to walk with God. And seeing your true
- 4:09Speaker 1: potential works much the same way. Seeing your true potential
- 4:13Speaker 1: does not mean imagining yourself to be able to do
- 4:16Speaker 1: anything you want. It means believing that God knows you
- 4:21Speaker 1: more than you know yourself. See, he sees the gifts
- 4:25Speaker 1: inside of you. He sees the ones you're using, the
- 4:29Speaker 1: ones you've overlooked, and the ways he can grow you
- 4:32Speaker 1: through your experiences that you would have never chosen for yourself.
- 4:37Speaker 1: But those very things that you think are problems are
- 4:41Speaker 1: actually stepping stones to your true potential. So be faithful today.
- 4:47Speaker 1: Just be faithful where you are. Bring him the ability
- 4:51Speaker 1: that you have right now. The gifts that you know
- 4:54Speaker 1: you have. Bring them. But also bring your insecurities and say, Lord,
- 4:58Speaker 1: I am willing to learn. I'm willing to grow. I'm
- 5:01Speaker 1: willing to do whatever small step seems to be necessary.
- 5:05Speaker 1: And along with the questions that you're still asking, bring
- 5:08Speaker 1: them all to the Lord. And let him guide you
- 5:11Speaker 1: step by step. See, the man hiding with his wheat
- 5:17Speaker 1: could not yet picture all that lie was ahead of him.
- 5:22Speaker 1: But God did. God saw it clearly. And as Gideon followed,
- 5:28Speaker 1: he began to see why the Lord had called him
- 5:31Speaker 1: for that purpose. And that's the same thing he wants
- 5:34Speaker 1: to do to you today and with you and through you.
- 5:38Speaker 1: So today you be safe, you be strong, and you
- 5:41Speaker 1: be blessed. And you be willing to step out on
- 5:44Speaker 1: faith even in the midst of your problems and insecurities
- 5:49Speaker 1: because God sees a mighty person of valor Inside of you.
- 5:56Speaker 1: Lord's will will see you back here again tomorrow. Until then.
- 5:59Speaker 1: I sure hope you have a great day.
