- 0:01Hello everyone, and welcome to the Random Heathen Ramblings
- 0:03podcast, where we discuss all sorts of things Germanic
- 0:06Heathenry related. My name is Jesse and I'm your
- 0:09host. Let's get into it.

- 0:35offering a wide selection of animus, ritual supplies,
- 0:39divination tools, altered goods, and home decor, including

- 0:48your spiritual journey or looking to expand your
- 0:51collection with a custom drum, we have everything you need.
- 0:55Visit our online store at the alvatier.com and discover the
- 0:59beauty of mountain spirit. All right folks, we're back
- 1:06again with a returning guest this week.
- 1:12As you all may probably know, I've got quite the backlog of of
- 1:17guests lined up all the way out into now May.
- 1:20I'm still going through and and booking people out that far into
- 1:26the future. So thank you to everybody who
- 1:29has expressed an interest and emailed me with your
- 1:34availability, your topics of of interest.
- 1:37It's greatly appreciated and it makes for fun content.
- 1:39I think it makes for a good dialogue.
- 1:41We get to talk about things that you know, I learn stuff, you
- 1:44learn stuff, we all learn stuff, right.
- 1:45Everybody learning and that's always fun and good and I
- 1:50appreciate all that. So if I haven't gotten to your
- 1:54e-mail yet, if you're listening to this and you know there might
- 1:57be an e-mail in my inbox that I haven't responded to yet, I will
- 2:01get to you. Like for example, I know I've
- 2:03got one at the time of this recording that I have yet to
- 2:07respond to because it came in over the weekend and I have been
- 2:13out of town for. I just got back in today at the
- 2:17time of this recording. More on that to come.
- 2:21We'll actually be talking a bit about what I mean by that on
- 2:24today's episode, which is again going to be featuring a return
- 2:28guest, my good friend and brother Patrick Walsh from the
- 2:32high Lung mental spiritual support group believe that's how
- 2:37we say it. Yeah.
- 2:38The High Lung mental slash spiritual support group, it is a
- 2:43safe space for all people, all types.
- 2:46Obviously the High Lung name would suggest that it is very
- 2:50focused on high lung topics. They they've got their North
- 2:54American tour coming up where they've added some dates to the
- 2:57Red Rock Show or added some dates in addition to the Red
- 3:01Rock Show coming up later this year.
- 3:03And then after after that it has been announced that they are not
- 3:07coming back to the United States to tour as they put it for the
- 3:11foreseeable future. Now I can only hope right, that
- 3:15that means that they are taking some much deserved time off and
- 3:18maybe focusing on writing new material kind of makes sense to
- 3:22do. You don't want to tour on the
- 3:24same stuff all the time. And they I think are probably
- 3:28due for some new songs, some new, some new rituals, right?
- 3:32So that's exciting. We got that to look forward to.
- 3:35But if you are wanting to see how long here in the United
- 3:38States they are, there are limited dates, limited tickets
- 3:43now I'm sure as you probably know their popularity.
- 3:45You know, tickets sell out quick.
- 3:48Some places probably have already sold out, at least by
- 3:50now. So check out them out.
- 3:53Check them out on Facebook or on their on their website.
- 3:58I think it's amplified history.com to see what's left
- 4:03and where you might be able to to go.
- 4:07Yeah, Patrick's going to be coming on here, but he's the
- 4:10admin, he's the founder of the, you know, the Highland mental
- 4:13and spiritual support group. So it is a safe space for all
- 4:16types of people with the focus being on mental health,
- 4:21spiritual health and and the awareness of those types of
- 4:25things. You know, So what we wanted to
- 4:27do today is talk about some things that are relatively close
- 4:34to to him. And I, you know, we want to talk
- 4:37about things up around animism and land connectivity and how
- 4:47these types of things can be instruments or tools to help us
- 4:51heal from past wounds. All right.
- 4:55So this is going to be one of those types of episodes.
- 4:57We're going to be talking about some things.
- 4:58And I'm sure for a lot of us out here listening and watching
- 5:00today hits very close to home. So I'm anxious to hear your
- 5:06thoughts on the topic. There will be AQ and A or not AQ
- 5:09and A, but they'll be like A. Yeah, like AQ and A.
- 5:13For those of you listening on Spotify at the end of this
- 5:16episode or I, or on this episode, I should say it won't
- 5:19appear at the end. It'll just be there.
- 5:20When you're listening. You can go pull it up on your
- 5:23app and tap on the Q&A banner. And.
- 5:26But for those of you watching here on Patreon, feel free to
- 5:29drop a comment down below with ways that you find to help heal
- 5:35your past wounds or wounds that you've received from things that
- 5:39have happened in the past. You know, I'm not sure how
- 5:42visceral we're going to get today.
- 5:43You know, we might, we might be talking on some topics that
- 5:46could be, you know, fair warning, trigger warning type of
- 5:49deal. Not sure yet.
- 5:52But I know with Patrick's past, he's he's very candid when it
- 5:57comes to talking about things that are pertaining to his past,
- 6:01you know, and and so that might be something that you know, for
- 6:05you listeners or watchers to hear viewers that are, you know,
- 6:09when it comes to like drug abuse or stuff like that, you know, if
- 6:12it's a trigger for you, just fair warning that may come up on
- 6:15this episode. But yeah, we wanted to talk
- 6:17about how animistic practices and connecting to the land can
- 6:23help us work through that healing process.
- 6:28He is very active with his land connectivity practices in his
- 6:33area. I, of course am very active with
- 6:35mine. Again that topic, what I
- 6:39mentioned earlier about why I was out of town all weekend,
- 6:41well I wouldn't say all weekend but while while I was out of
- 6:44town all day and not responding to emails, more on that to come
- 6:48and it's about that sort of thing the the animism and and
- 6:53land connectivity and all that. So I do want to real quick
- 6:56before we get into the show, give a very special thanks and
- 6:59shout out to all of my patrons here on Patreon, you guys and
- 7:02gals out here that have found it in your heart to pledge monetary
- 7:07support by giving a dollar to be able to watch these videos.
- 7:12It's much better for me to do it this way than it is to put it
- 7:15out on YouTube and I greatly appreciate you guys and gals out
- 7:19here wanting to do that. So to all of my Carl and above
- 7:21tier patrons, thank you so very much.
- 7:25And thank you to Taylor who is an A seer tier patron for coming
- 7:30on to the first one-on-one chat slash discussion on the third
- 7:36Thursday of every month. So last week's once a month kind
- 7:41of touch base. Taylor is is an A seer tier
- 7:45patron. So in addition to getting those
- 7:47once a month check ins and and monthly room draws, the top tier
- 7:52patrons on Patreon the a seer tier get I think merchandise
- 7:57shipped to them four times a year.
- 8:01So anyway, thank you all so much for that.
- 8:04Be sure to check the link tree link in the description and show
- 8:08notes of this podcast for all of my stuff including Patreon.
- 8:11But all of the social links, my merchandise, all of the ways
- 8:15that you can support this podcast and what I do with
- 8:18Midgard musings. All the links are down there so
- 8:21be sure to check it out. And also check out Patrick's
- 8:23Facebook group, the High Lung Mental Spiritual Support Group
- 8:27on Facebook if that's your jam. So without further ado, let's
- 8:31welcome Patrick into the show. He is my good friend, my good
- 8:34brother, and always here at pinch anytime I need him.
- 8:38Barring major circumstances. He's always eager to get on the
- 8:41show and and rap with me for a bit.
- 8:43So thank you Patrick. Thank you all for listening and
- 8:45watching today. Let's get into this topic of
- 8:47healing our past wounds through animism and land connectivity.
- 8:55All right folks, we are joined back with my good friend and
- 8:58brother Patrick Walsh who I mentioned earlier is a return
- 9:02guest to the podcast. Almost as if it's like a Co host
- 9:06in a way. Like you're you're so quick to
- 9:08be available man and I appreciate that about you just
- 9:12being willing and wanting to you know be on here and and talk
- 9:16about things. And I, as I mentioned before,
- 9:18Patrick does admin the High Lung Mental Spiritual support group
- 9:24on Facebook. Do be sure to check out his
- 9:26group. It's a safe space.
- 9:27Yes, it's Highland focus, but it's a safe space to kind of,
- 9:31you know, talk about things of a mental and spiritual health
- 9:35nature, right? Absolutely.
- 9:38You know, just to deal with the day-to-day cry, but also
- 9:42important things to not supper alone.
- 9:47Yeah. Sometimes we need the company
- 9:49you know to be supported, you know.
- 9:52Absolutely. And that's so much of what it
- 9:54is. It's it's it's a safe space of
- 9:56people to, even if it's not Highland related, like there's
- 10:00so much out there that gets shared in the group that I'm,
- 10:03you know, because I'm in there too.
- 10:04And I see all the posts that come through, and it could be a
- 10:08funny meme or just something that makes somebody's day.
- 10:11You know what I. Mean something you need to hear
- 10:13at the right time at the right. Place.
- 10:14Yeah, that's something. Very special.
- 10:17Yeah. So you're doing good stuff, man.
- 10:19And we appreciate what you do there in that capacity.
- 10:23Yeah. Welcome, welcome back.
- 10:25Happy to be back. I'm always jumping at the
- 10:28opportunity. You said this like, Oh yes,
- 10:30let's fucking do it. Let's make this happen.
- 10:32No it it it worked out. Meet up a podcast.
- 10:36It worked out perfect, didn't it?
- 10:37Just kind of the topic. The God's work, you know, just
- 10:41has the Great Spirit works, too, in wondrous ways.
- 10:45Yeah, yeah, yeah. Because I mean, like I was
- 10:48always all ready and prepared to go into because I had, you know,
- 10:53just for everybody listening and watching, like as I mentioned
- 10:55earlier before you came on, Patrick, but I was like, I've
- 10:58got people booked out all the way into May at this point on
- 11:02the show, right? So when we book our guests,
- 11:07we've got topics that the guests write in about and want to talk
- 11:10about. And this was an e-mail that I
- 11:13had gotten last year and we're getting around to my, my, my, my
- 11:19potential guest for this week, which wasn't you originally.
- 11:22It became you because we had a cancellation that we're going to
- 11:26have to reschedule for. But the topic I felt was good
- 11:32enough to keep on the schedule and to my guest that's going to
- 11:37be coming on later on. This is not a slight where we'll
- 11:40we'll revisit this plus the other things that they had wrote
- 11:43in about. So for all you listeners
- 11:45watchers, right, like this isn't something that we're just tying
- 11:49off and putting into the archives.
- 11:52We'll we'll we'll probably be coming back to this later on at
- 11:54a future time amongst other things.
- 11:56But the fact is is I thought who else could I invite on the show
- 12:02to talk about you know healing our wounds from the past through
- 12:06animism and land connectivity. Who else would be a prime guest
- 12:11to have on the show but Patrick, because we connect in this sort
- 12:16of way? I know you do specifically, but
- 12:18like we have a shared connectivity with this topic,
- 12:22don't we? Absolutely, we do.
- 12:24I couldn't couldn't be more grateful for such an
- 12:29opportunity. To Yeah.
- 12:32And I thought, you know, you with all the experiences that
- 12:35you have with, you know, 'cause it kind of ties back to the
- 12:39whole like what you do with the Highland Group.
- 12:41It's it's focused on mental health, spiritual well-being.
- 12:46And a lot of the, I think and and maybe if you want to talk a
- 12:50little bit about it, but I think a lot of what people experience
- 12:53with their, you know, mental illness, spiritual strifes and
- 12:58and the things that kind of are not physical ailments, right,
- 13:02not physical illnesses, but psychological, mental.
- 13:04So much of what those things are are due to wounds that we've
- 13:10accumulated in the past. Would you say that's?
- 13:13Absolutely. It's all interconnected, just
- 13:15like anytime you get a sinus headache.
- 13:17It's not just your head, it's your nose, it's your ears, it's
- 13:21your mouth. It's all connected.
- 13:23It's just anytime you're stressed out, you're not just
- 13:26stressed out. Your body feels the two.
- 13:29And that's where we need to seek the opportunity to find a
- 13:34remedy, a solution, be it contemporary or indefinite.
- 13:38It's something we need to seek when we have something laid
- 13:41before us like that. When you say contemporary, do
- 13:46you mean like like modern? Maybe a quick fix, maybe
- 13:50something that you know, yeah, like a medicine or something
- 13:52that could give you the push or the the stepping stone to get
- 13:58yourself in the right direction to point towards where you need
- 14:01to go to. Yeah, because I think that's
- 14:04important, right. I mean obviously with what we're
- 14:07talking about today, you know we're we're probably going to
- 14:10learn more into the be animistic and and land connectivity parts
- 14:15of how we leverage that towards our healing.
- 14:21But it's not to take away from what is available through modern
- 14:27medicine. I mean, I personally feel like a
- 14:30lot of what modern medicine has to offer with, you know,
- 14:34pharmaceuticals do more harm than good, but I don't think
- 14:39that they are like 100% bad all the time.
- 14:43I think no. They're not.
- 14:44Necessary in value to it, right? Like, there's things about it
- 14:47that can definitely help. And that path goes into very
- 14:53sacred medicine as well, too, is to each their own.
- 14:56Some people take the pharmaceuticals and do wonderful
- 15:01or the person they're meant to be.
- 15:02But all the same, I'm not that breed, but I'm a breed who I
- 15:06went down that path to. I went down the road to
- 15:09pharmaceuticals. And ironically enough, it wasn't
- 15:15until I had a very, not so savory part of my past that I
- 15:20was addicted to opiates. I won't mention that something
- 15:25specifically, just to avoid any triggers.
- 15:27Anyone who's potentially watching right now or who is
- 15:30watching. But like, you know, it wasn't
- 15:33until then I caught myself the most vulnerable period of my
- 15:36life. Then I'm like, OK, well I
- 15:39separate ties with some things that I was taking and I was
- 15:42taking substance to get myself winning from the said addictive
- 15:46substance. So when I cut off ties from that
- 15:51said substance and also my fart cynicals afterwards, I heard
- 15:57nothing but high praises from my family on my dear friends, but
- 16:01also more importantly myself. I was actually enabled and
- 16:07provide the opportunity to be happy, to feel the emotions,
- 16:12being sad, happy, upset or what have you, just be alive and to
- 16:17feel the feels and embrace those feelings.
- 16:20And that's a very hard thing to adjust to, especially anyone who
- 16:25just lives day-to-day or just coming up with substance or
- 16:28whatever situation is feeling the feelings is very difficult
- 16:32sometimes. Do you think that some of the
- 16:35ways that the, like modern medicine or the, you know,
- 16:38pharmaceutical lab created drugs and all that, do you think that
- 16:43those substances can also inhibit us from, like you say,
- 16:49feeling the feelings? Absolutely no doubt about it.
- 16:52It almost. It's almost like a lot of what
- 16:54they do is desensitize us and separate us from what we
- 16:59actually need to heal. It's like it's blocking out
- 17:02everything, the good and the bad.
- 17:05It's no coincidence at all. It's no coincidence at all.
- 17:07But certain substance are more available than others.
- 17:11I won't dive into that topic, particularly right now, but you
- 17:14know what I mean, You know. Well, we know.
- 17:16I mean, we're all. Adults like you know exactly
- 17:18right and that's to say twitch their own If you ain't ingest
- 17:24any substance at all, it's very important to bear in mind what
- 17:30you're walking into, what you hope to expect and how it's
- 17:35going to affect you afterwards. Now a lot of the world today
- 17:40don't really do that due process just needed to appreciate what
- 17:44we're doing and and at the same time I have to catch myself and
- 17:48like well Patrick, you're not always following by those rules.
- 17:51And I'll say that right now I'm not.
- 17:54It's a work in progress and that's something that used to be
- 17:56very aggravating saying those words.
- 18:00But recently, it's a few other lessons too.
- 18:02Is like, you know, what? If you have the chance to see
- 18:07that? Don't just see it.
- 18:13Observe it, understand it, and know where to go from there.
- 18:19Or at least entertain the ideas to do so.
- 18:24Interesting. Yeah.
- 18:26I think a lot of times when we talk about the past and and you
- 18:33know, wounds from the past, I mean, you could say, well, like
- 18:39physical wounds, right? Like I had an accident, you
- 18:44know, and now my, my, my leg's messed up or my back's messed up
- 18:47or my neck or my shoulder or whatever, right.
- 18:49Stuff like that. And that's a literal physical
- 18:53wound that you know, you have to like go through rehabilitation
- 18:59for to strengthen that area or maybe chiropractic methods or
- 19:05other sorts of medicine right to kind of strengthen or heal that
- 19:09area. And then we also get into right,
- 19:12like the the psychological wounds or the mental wounds or
- 19:15the spiritual wounds, things that have happened to us that we
- 19:19don't bear those wounds on our skin, on our flesh.
- 19:22It's not something that you could look at somebody and tell
- 19:24that's a wounded person, you know, you know and then and but
- 19:31how much of what we do on a day-to-day basis is is
- 19:34externalizing those wounds, right.
- 19:35How we talk to people, how we behave, the habits that we you
- 19:41know maybe indulge in or or participate in, right.
- 19:44How much of that type of behavior is a reflection on the
- 19:50wound that we're trying to heal? And it takes a great deal of
- 19:55courage and effort to even acknowledge those harsh truths
- 20:02and realizations, be it our past or our current situation, or
- 20:07maybe in the future, or what we could be leading ourselves into
- 20:11the future if it don't take necessary steps to.
- 20:15Accommodate that situation and to be our best selves.
- 20:23Do you think that the the the folks that have had like, do you
- 20:26think that physical wounds, right, whether it's through an
- 20:30accident or through other means, right?
- 20:33Do you think that cause 'cause kind of what's on the line of
- 20:36the topic right? Is, is healing the wounds of the
- 20:38past through such things as animistic practices and land
- 20:43connectivity? Do you think that there's any
- 20:45merit to adopting or exploring those practices?
- 20:52To feel the physical. To heal the physical.
- 20:56Like, do you think necessary? It's required.
- 20:59In my personal opinion, especially being on the path
- 21:03that you and I share, and I'm assuming a vast majority of us
- 21:07who's watching this, absolutely. It's very necessary and required
- 21:13sometimes to put ourselves in the element that which we came
- 21:17from, Mother yard, our earth, our sacred planet, that we dwell
- 21:23to really separate ourselves from the day-to-day crime, the
- 21:27day-to-day. Hogwash.
- 21:29I'm trying to not the curse too much here.
- 21:32But you're fine. Go for it.
- 21:34I'm not on YouTube. All the day-to-day.
- 21:39Family, family, friendly. But hey, guess what?
- 21:41There's families that are, you know, it's real life.
- 21:43So like, I don't care. The real deal?
- 21:45Shit. Yeah.
- 21:46So that said, thank you. So with that said, separate air
- 21:51salts in the day-to-day bullshit.
- 21:53And a lot of it may not be bullshit, but more than not, in
- 21:56my connections and dealings with the world, a lot of it is
- 22:02bullshit, but also ties into this.
- 22:05Tonight's topic is healing the wounds of the past.
- 22:09And again, I want to die too much in this topic just yet.
- 22:14But we're getting to that point, you know?
- 22:17It's important to notify that and to be aware of that.
- 22:21Right, because you. I mean, you can't.
- 22:23You can't fix, you can't work towards fixing.
- 22:27You can't heal something that you don't realize needs healing.
- 22:30Or understand. Yeah, I mean, you might think
- 22:35that there's a problem where you might know like, oh, something's
- 22:37broken, something's wrong. But until you've, I guess, I
- 22:40don't know, triaged it and figured out what it actually is
- 22:44exactly. You might be you might be
- 22:46fixing, you know, your back might be hurting because, or
- 22:50your neck might be hurting because it's your back.
- 22:52But if all you're focusing on is your neck and not your back,
- 22:55well, you're the problem, right? Yeah, it's like putting out my,
- 22:59my mom used to say. It's like putting a Band-Aid
- 23:01over a jugular wound. Like you'll stop it for a
- 23:04moment, but ultimately. Yeah, you're not.
- 23:07There's bigger problems at hand, you know.
- 23:09But it's also very good point you mentioned too is you know
- 23:13you may be facing something very daunting and very challenging.
- 23:17You can offer a quick fix whether it be a substance that's
- 23:21approved by society or substances more needs more
- 23:26attention and more focus on. But all the same though you can
- 23:30experience those substances the best that you can and have a
- 23:34great experience but kind of ties into, if you don't mind
- 23:38mentioning fire the mountain. It's like, you know, we came in
- 23:42there with our our adversities, our struggles.
- 23:46We are hanging from our own trees and learning our lessons
- 23:51and seeking what's laid before us now.
- 23:54Those lessons, those points, those things to remember and to
- 23:58apply, are given to us and us alone.
- 24:02It's our duty, our job to carry that energy afterwards.
- 24:09It's cool. It's wonderful to have that
- 24:10experience during that time, absolutely.
- 24:13And that can carry us very far. Also doing ourselves an
- 24:18injustice and forgetting it. It's just like karate, for
- 24:25example. Yeah, you could practice karate,
- 24:27could be a black belt, get to that point.
- 24:30But then you stop practicing and then all of a sudden you're not
- 24:33quite what you used to be. You haven't applied those
- 24:37lessons you learn leading up to that point.
- 24:40It's something you need to. It's a daily practice, Yeah.
- 24:44And sometimes you need to make it a weekly.
- 24:47Yeah, exactly. It's lifestyle.
- 24:49So sometimes we catch ourselves being into virtually started as
- 24:53a daily practice and then a weekly practice and then a
- 24:56monthly practice and then like myself for example, I put myself
- 25:03in that position. I'm like man, I'm out of touch
- 25:08instead of being being too lost in that thought.
- 25:14It's just anything we're talking about is seizing any misgivings
- 25:21or any this sort of setting your hardship to be like, all right,
- 25:25this is an opportunity. Yeah, this is something for me,
- 25:29like, oh, wow, wait a second, Patrick, hold up, time out, time
- 25:32out. You had this amazing experience
- 25:34at Red Rocks or you had this amazing experience of chest for
- 25:37the virtual, or you had this amazing experience at Far on the
- 25:39mountain. You have these tools, you have
- 25:43these energies, you have these capabilities, you utilize it.
- 25:48And that can be said for a lot of us, it's just our duty to do
- 25:53so, to acknowledge those things. Yeah, that's a good point.
- 25:57I think a lot of us get caught up in the romance of the moment
- 26:01because we're it's new, it's fresh, it's oh wow, you know,
- 26:04And we can't help but to put everything we've got of
- 26:07ourselves into the moment. And then when we leave the
- 26:12moment and we return to our day-to-day bullshit, the grind.
- 26:17Whatever. Exactly.
- 26:19How easy is it for us to separate ourselves from that
- 26:23moment? Because we saw it only as a
- 26:28moment instead of as a lesson for the process, for a
- 26:31continuation of our life. It's like, don't just do that
- 26:36thing in that moment and it be done forever.
- 26:39Like carry what you learned in that moment, that the
- 26:43experience, the lessons, everything forward with you.
- 26:48Because if it benefited you in the moment so profoundly that
- 26:52you were that ecstatic about it, how could it not then improve
- 26:57and benefit you for the long term going forward in, in, in
- 27:02whatever it is that you do, you know?
- 27:05And and sometimes what it takes, though, is to get lost in set
- 27:10moment. In set circumstance.
- 27:12Sure. Oh man.
- 27:14Oh shit. Whoops, got a little off the
- 27:18trail there, but again. Yeah.
- 27:22Sometimes you got to lose, sometimes you do.
- 27:24You have to. Sometimes you have to lose
- 27:26yourself on the trail before you find the trail, obviously.
- 27:34I mean if you're if you're just going through the motions and
- 27:38you're like trucking along kind of.
- 27:41I'll use an example, right? Because this past weekend I took
- 27:46off on a on a solo journey of sorts.
- 27:51I alluded to this in the intro before you came on.
- 27:54Reason why I wasn't like responding to emails and talking
- 27:57to people and this and that. And you know, it's a trail, 5
- 28:011/2 mile long trail to get to where I needed to go.
- 28:03And then same thing to get back out.
- 28:07And you know, new land, new territory, new new space.
- 28:12And yeah, sure, the trails may be marked, but if you're not
- 28:15paying attention and if all you're doing is just kind of
- 28:17cruising along on autopilot, you might find yourself off trail.
- 28:20And then what do you got to do? Well, it's time to get myself
- 28:25back on track here. Otherwise, I could be just going
- 28:27off into wherever, you know, and that's OK to do, you know, like
- 28:33if you're talking like metaphysically or or or not
- 28:35literally on a trail. But like we find ourselves kind
- 28:39of straying off a bit on off the beaten path.
- 28:41It's OK to go exploring. It's OK to see what's out there,
- 28:44but don't forget your way back home.
- 28:48Like don't forget the path that you are on because of all you're
- 28:52doing is just going all kamikaze like.
- 28:56Yeah. No, no direction.
- 28:57Blind, you know, just blind side to side.
- 29:00Now we'll do it, yeah. Yeah, then what do we do?
- 29:02But also, but also this topic to always where you came from.
- 29:08You might have come from a very fucked up situation.
- 29:14Now with myself it's kind of funny to say this too.
- 29:17I'm not making this too about myself, but also respectfully so
- 29:21is. Being bored, I am.
- 29:24Yeah, exactly. You mean, you know, being bored
- 29:26the way I am. It's hard because I try my best
- 29:34to not let it defy me. But also at the same time, I
- 29:40don't know. It's like, there's my inner
- 29:41spirit. My inner self is like, well,
- 29:45yeah, don't let defy myself. But also, I am myself.
- 29:52I am my experience. I am my upbringing.
- 29:56I am my my great strengths and my horrible weaknesses.
- 30:02It's just something that you have to appreciate, for better
- 30:06or for worse. And hopefully if this your worst
- 30:12of times when you were brought up, you stand up beside
- 30:15yourself. Now you know what?
- 30:17I got past that shit. I got past that and the
- 30:21remarkable Man 1. Whatever title you choose to
- 30:24carry, you're a better person because of that.
- 30:28And that's what they know. Even if you are a better person
- 30:31today, tomorrow gives you a new focus, a new chance and also new
- 30:39opportunity, a new challenge. Yeah.
- 30:43Well, I think it's a great point that you make, right?
- 30:45Because I think a lot of folks might might find some like they
- 30:54they might, they might find themselves relating to your
- 30:57situation because they too, and they have something that they
- 31:01didn't do themselves, right. They were born a certain way.
- 31:06They were like that was the card that was dealt to them.
- 31:11So it wasn't anything that they consciously did.
- 31:13And over the years, over life, you know, because of misinformed
- 31:20people or or whatever, right. It gets looked as it gets looked
- 31:24at as a a wound right, a handicap, A handicap right.
- 31:31You can't do this because of that.
- 31:33You know you understand and man like it's one of the reasons why
- 31:38I I think we are how like we've connected the way we've
- 31:43connected is is I've seen you get past that quote UN quote
- 31:47stigma and you've kind of breach the gap and in a way you've
- 31:52closed the gap you know you you've breached the stereotype
- 31:56you go well So what if this is how I look or this is what I've
- 32:00got look what I can do despite it.
- 32:04You know what I mean You've you've met the thing that you've
- 32:07been given and you've been like well it's not going to it's not
- 32:10going to prevent me from partaking in firing.
- 32:13It's not going to it's not going to prevent me from doing the
- 32:16things with my brothers that you know we're all charged to do.
- 32:19You know what I'm saying? Like you you take care of
- 32:22yourself to that point of realizing like what your
- 32:25boundaries are and and we all you know it's respected.
- 32:28But at the same time you're also not like using the situation as
- 32:31like a cop out. As to why I can't that that's
- 32:35pretty that's that's strength. I think you know, like to to
- 32:38know your boundaries, respect boundaries, but also to not use
- 32:42something as a reason why I can't.
- 32:45Well, what is the reason? How I can, how can I figure this
- 32:49out? You know what I mean?
- 32:51And digging deep and getting close to that primal energy, as
- 32:55I mentioned before, you know Mother Yurt, right?
- 32:58The land connectivity, this, this primal energy that has
- 33:02always been here that we are a part of that we draw from, we
- 33:07come from it. This is not just we're not just
- 33:12flies on a wall. I mean, we're not part of it.
- 33:16We're not part of. It we are of.
- 33:18It we are it exactly, yeah. Yeah, It's just not something
- 33:21like, you know, the sun or the moon.
- 33:24This is our substance, this is our our very being.
- 33:30And you know this also something to be worthy of mentioning too,
- 33:34is we lose that connection. And that's why I'm very happy
- 33:38that you and I and many others, we take time as often as we can
- 33:43to get out into nature, our territory, our home originally.
- 33:49And that kind of ties into, you know, the child.
- 33:52Tonight, I chose my name as Patrick the Deer Whisperer.
- 33:56You know, it wasn't until, you know, again, I hope I'm not
- 33:59going too off topic, but, you know, basically just, you know,
- 34:03the deer. Like when I I've been going to
- 34:06the spot, a lot of my friends know who are watching this.
- 34:10I call it Deer Valley now, but I also arrive at Run Park.
- 34:14So I've been visiting this place for over 10 years easily.
- 34:19But it wasn't until recently, like very recently, like
- 34:232021-2022. They actually really started to
- 34:30fully understand and appreciate what this place had to offer.
- 34:35It's not just a place to hike or walk around.
- 34:38Any time I go there, it's with a sense of purpose, a mission, I
- 34:44guess, to. It was the simplest.
- 34:47I just got off work. I just deal with so much right
- 34:51now I need to escape, and I didn't escape this, but I need
- 34:54to take a break. Because truly, you really can't
- 34:57escape anything that you're dealing with.
- 34:59You could take a break and that's respected, but ultimately
- 35:02you have to face that problem. You have to face that struggle
- 35:07and all we can do in the meantime and leading up to that
- 35:11moment is to prepare ourselves, be mindful and aware and where
- 35:19we're at, like you, you have your special river, You have
- 35:23your sacred places. I have my sacred places.
- 35:25My pie spot, for example. It got damaged not too long ago
- 35:29and I shared with you that very day.
- 35:31I'm like, oh man, look at this bullshit.
- 35:33And then, but I told you that very day.
- 35:36I'm like, yeah, man, I'm not that pissed off, 'cause I saw
- 35:40that again. This is kind of a thing that's
- 35:42reoccurring in my life. My life right now is like
- 35:46seizing hardships as an opportunity.
- 35:49And in doing so, when I capture those most and not all the time,
- 35:53there are times, even now, where I'm faced with something messed
- 35:57up. I'm like, oh, I'll get carried
- 35:59away in the moment, But also when you have the time to
- 36:02appreciate as it, your circle's an opportunity.
- 36:07It's so, so beneficial, you know, like there's one night.
- 36:13Another example is my dad was upset about something and I
- 36:20could have been carried away by that.
- 36:22But I'm like, no, my dad is a man.
- 36:25He's a human being. He has things he's dealing with
- 36:28at the moment. He's taking courage.
- 36:31He's taking time out of his day to express his concerns.
- 36:33Now what's so easy to get carried away?
- 36:36In that moment? I was very proud of myself
- 36:39thinking, all right, well, I'm upset, but I'm not mad.
- 36:45He's a human being just like everybody else.
- 36:47We're all feeling the feelings that we're feeling.
- 36:50To seize an opportunity like that, it's remarkable.
- 36:53It's so beneficial just to be oh man.
- 36:57So when you afterwards, I'm like, man, I feel fucking
- 37:00fantastic. It's crazy to say that after all
- 37:03of messed up time like man, man, he's right.
- 37:05He raised some very good points. I need to work on this.
- 37:08I need to do this or that. The other you know.
- 37:10But just again, it all lies in opportunities in season Now,
- 37:14when we can, if that can be all the time, though, it can't be
- 37:19sometimes when their ass is kicked.
- 37:21Yeah, exactly. You know what I mean?
- 37:23Like, I I've. I think that part of the process
- 37:26of healing sometimes involves ripping the Band-Aid off, which
- 37:33sucks in the moment, you know, or, or just digging into that
- 37:38wound and ripping out the infection through force like
- 37:42they're like, you say not. It's not every time.
- 37:45It's not for all circumstances, but there are times when it's
- 37:50like, all right, it's time to face the nitty gritty, ugly
- 37:55parts of things in order to get the healing that's needed.
- 38:00And that can happen through such animistic practices as, you
- 38:04know, drumming as as you know, plant medicine as as just being
- 38:11present in nature and, you know, being receptive to what's alive,
- 38:19who is alive around us. Not just like you we mentioned
- 38:23before not just being a part of it but being it's being you know
- 38:27we're we're not just here observing we're we're part being
- 38:32participation you know participatory and finding our
- 38:38place there. You know what I mean?
- 38:39Like we don't belong everywhere. We don't not everything is going
- 38:43to be an you know a profound moment.
- 38:45It's it's we don't. It's because we're in a moment
- 38:48doesn't mean we belong in the moment, but.
- 38:52If all it's OK to. Purpose then we know the
- 38:56direction that we're that we're going to be leading in you know.
- 38:58And while it's OK to sometimes take the position of just
- 39:02spectating, seeing things where they are and not getting
- 39:06involved, that's fine. That's well and good.
- 39:09I do that a lot of times. But sometimes you have to put
- 39:13yourself in that spot. Like, all right, well, this can
- 39:16be uncomfortable, just like the cold plunges that we did.
- 39:21Yeah, the 1st. I'm like, Oh my God, this is
- 39:23horrible. This is terrible.
- 39:24But then shortly after that, I always messed you afterwards.
- 39:28Like Jesse, Dude, that was amazing.
- 39:31That was badass. I feel happy.
- 39:33I feel oblivted. I feel energized, like it serves
- 39:36a purpose. And that's like the mentality we
- 39:40need to carry as often as we can provide us such.
- 39:43We seek the aptunities and understand those situations is
- 39:47like, all right, well that was fucked up, but here we are
- 39:52making the best fit. We didn't die.
- 39:55You know. What?
- 39:56I mean, like we didn't die. Yeah, it sucks in the moment.
- 39:58Sure, it's uncomfortable, right? But isn't that so much of what
- 40:04healing is about? Right?
- 40:05It sucks. It sucks sometimes.
- 40:09Well, I guess it's going to suck then.
- 40:11Time to time to time to buckle up then.
- 40:14Because, I mean, do you want it? Do you want to be healed or not?
- 40:17Do you want to get better or not?
- 40:18Do you want it? Do you want to?
- 40:20Right. Do you want to stop?
- 40:23Do you want it to stop the feelings that you're feeling,
- 40:26the the the, the, the things that you're going through, do
- 40:28you want it to be over or do, or at the very least, do you want
- 40:31it? Maybe, maybe it's not going to
- 40:32be over. But do you at least want to have
- 40:35the capabilities of managing it better than what you have up to
- 40:40this point? Because, I mean, I don't want
- 40:42to. I don't want us to like, sit
- 40:44over here and be like, oh, as long as you're like connecting
- 40:46to nature and doing atomistic stuff, then all your wounds and
- 40:49all your past traumas are going to be, they're going to go away.
- 40:52Like, no, that's not what we're talking about.
- 40:54But what is what, you know, part of healing is, is therapy.
- 41:00You know what I mean? It's it's it's going through
- 41:03things to get better at dealing with the problem that at hand,
- 41:08right? And a lot of it has to be
- 41:11uncomfortable. Yeah.
- 41:13'Cause it's only in those set variable a couple of times
- 41:18afterwards when we come to appreciate that, right?
- 41:21Oh wow, feeling good. It's just 100 times better.
- 41:25I'm like, wow, wow. I just like after a hard day's
- 41:27work or, you know, just after a hard hike you didn't want to
- 41:31make and you didn't anyways or anything.
- 41:33As simple as that. That's a really great example.
- 41:36You know, just putting yourself in a hardship and then being
- 41:39like, man, I'm glad I did that. I'm glad I took the time out to
- 41:43do so. Yeah.
- 41:44And what happens when you know the the bad days come or the
- 41:48rough times happen and you've done, we've done.
- 41:54I keep saying you I don't mean like you directly.
- 41:56Yeah, I know, but they understand that.
- 41:57Yeah, yeah. Like the generalized you or
- 42:00whatever, right. What happens when all of the
- 42:02things that we've done, you know, OK, so we've had some bad
- 42:06days and then one of the ways that we go and and deal with
- 42:10that or maybe we're having something that triggers a past
- 42:14trauma or wound gets aggravated from the past, right.
- 42:18One of the ways that we deal with it is to like you say, you
- 42:22know go out to nature. Well, what happens if the thing
- 42:27that caused the wound gets triggered and it comes back up
- 42:31and we don't have the capabilities of right then and
- 42:34there running away, going out into nature and and experiencing
- 42:38that. What do we do in those cases,
- 42:41you know? Find the courage.
- 42:44Just find the courage and the opportunity.
- 42:47Right. Which happens from what, You
- 42:49know, it happens from all the other times that we've been able
- 42:52to do it. We've gone out there, we've
- 42:55experienced these things and we've been nurtured and we've
- 42:57been given the medicine that we need.
- 43:00And then so that way when it happens again, Oh yeah, sure, it
- 43:03sucks, but it doesn't hurt so bad anymore.
- 43:06It doesn't like I'm going through it, but I'm also going
- 43:09through it with the tools and with everything, with the
- 43:13medicine that I need to be able to overcome this or get through
- 43:17this flare up or whatever you want to call it.
- 43:20You know what I mean? Like, sure, it doesn't go away
- 43:22100%, but when those aggravations come back up, those
- 43:26flare ups come back. We've been equipped to manage it
- 43:31in a much healthier way. Instead of going for.
- 43:33That absences and going to other things that can ultimately
- 43:37destroy us, right. I just think that that's an
- 43:42important aspect of it too is, you know, because you know, I'm
- 43:46sure we're going to have some folks listening and watching to
- 43:49this who are not in an area that they feel is like nature so
- 43:55accessible, right. It it's great to hear people
- 43:58talk about, oh, I can go to these pine trees or or just they
- 44:01can go to the river or the mountains or the creeks or the
- 44:05ocean or any of these other sort of like wild nature as you know.
- 44:10Places space is what you make of it.
- 44:12Yeah, it could be as simple as like a mini all three you have
- 44:16in your room, your closet, or whatever space you have
- 44:19available, you make that space your own.
- 44:23Yeah, that piece of nature, right?
- 44:26It may not be as you may not be living in the mountains or by a
- 44:30river or whatever. And so you know, you might hear
- 44:34some of what, like Patrick and I are talking about and go, well,
- 44:37damn, you know, I'm. I'm an hour away from anything
- 44:40remotely resembling that. I can't just get in my car when
- 44:43I'm feeling shitty and, you know, do that.
- 44:46Well, what can you do right? Can you bring nature to your
- 44:49home? Can you have an herb garden?
- 44:51Can you have peace lilies and orchid things that don't take a
- 44:56whole lot of maintenance to keep up, but it's still a part of
- 44:58nature. It's that connection to nature
- 45:01that you can be a part of right tending.
- 45:05To the plant. Or or the garden.
- 45:07Even plan a special day. Do you have off work?
- 45:11Like you know what I'm off Tuesday this week.
- 45:14I'm gonna. I've set aside all plans I have
- 45:17to compensate, but also give yourself the opportunity to
- 45:23catch up the way you see you need to catch up.
- 45:27That's a good point. Find yourself.
- 45:29It doesn't have to be a weekly thing if you don't have the
- 45:32accommodation to do so, but the very effect you're making an
- 45:35effort to do so says something about you again.
- 45:39If you don't have that secret space just off that you want
- 45:43either this is like once a month or once hopefully not once a
- 45:47year because that sounds very debilitating.
- 45:48But it's just, I'm just saying just not a race protest.
- 45:57You see me go to my pine spot. So for example, all those all
- 46:01you who are watching my pine spot, it takes me about 25
- 46:05minutes to get there from my house and over time it becomes
- 46:11more like 15 minutes, but ultimately it's 25 but it feels
- 46:14like 15 but some days it feels like 40 minutes like traffic,
- 46:17What the hell is going on? But just all the same though
- 46:22places too I'd like to visit like tomorrow I want to go to is
- 46:25a place that takes like 40 minutes to go to.
- 46:28It kind of ties into your energy at the moment.
- 46:31Sometimes you have to put yourself in message, which like,
- 46:34hey, I got time off today, but I'm just not feeling it right
- 46:37now. Go against that grain.
- 46:41Go against that thought. Because I I assure you more
- 46:44often than not, you feel like you don't want to do it
- 46:47afterwards. Like, wow, wow, wow, wow.
- 46:51Patrick or Jesse was right, or my inner self was right.
- 46:53You know, whatever inspiration you're gathering the energy to
- 46:56do. So like, wow, I'm glad to
- 46:58fucking do that. Trust me, it's worth the effort.
- 47:01It's worth the time to do so. But again, we're all human.
- 47:04We all make mistakes. We all have plans that go still
- 47:09accord to our desire, but you know, make the best of it.
- 47:12Do what you can. Yeah, yeah, you got to, I mean
- 47:17you got to be flexible. And I think if you're if you're
- 47:21of a mind and you know that it's good for you, you know that what
- 47:29the effort that you put into it is going to benefit you, then
- 47:33you're not going to make excuses to not do it, right.
- 47:37I mean, it's like, well, if I know it's going to be good for
- 47:41me to, you know, not drink so much because it's detriment,
- 47:47It's a detriment to my health or I'm just using that as an
- 47:49example or whatever, right? Of course.
- 47:51Yeah, and it would be stupid if you did the opposite of that,
- 47:57right? Right.
- 47:58So sure, it may take some practice, it may take some work
- 48:01to get into that habit of, well, I need to cut back or I need to
- 48:05stop or whatever, right? But at least take the step,
- 48:08right? Start with, start with small
- 48:10steps, right? OK, well, if I can only get out
- 48:12here once a week or once every two weeks, hey, at least that's
- 48:15more than what I was doing before.
- 48:17Exactly. And then that sets up, that
- 48:20sets. First of all, it sets a tone for
- 48:22yourself, I think as well, because then you're going to
- 48:26have gone and done this thing with the purpose in mind, to be
- 48:30expecting something to to be healed of, of, of an issue or or
- 48:34or to experience a thing. And if you go into it with
- 48:39purpose, then it's bound to. You're bound to have results.
- 48:45And also really important to mention though, progress is not
- 48:51a race. Yeah.
- 48:55It's on your own terms, right? You can only be the judge in
- 48:59that regard. It's unfair to compare, you
- 49:03know, like I have plenty of people in my life who are doing
- 49:05wonderful and what they're doing, and in my past I was very
- 49:10bitter about them. Oh, this person married.
- 49:12Oh, this person has kids. Fuck that shit your life.
- 49:18Your. Terms your conditions.
- 49:21You decide what's going to come with that, No one else.
- 49:25Your hardships be, be they what they are.
- 49:30We are responsible on how we react and decide to go from
- 49:35there. But again, sometimes I hate
- 49:39saying those words 'cause I'm like, well, Patrick, practice
- 49:42let you preach, you know? But the same time, my own
- 49:46progress when I can and how I can.
- 49:50Yeah, but you know, you know the business, right?
- 49:51Like, you know the deal, right? You know, it's fine to say it,
- 49:54but you're also living it. Who cares if you're not on 100
- 49:58percent, 100% of the time? Nobody is, you know.
- 50:00Not every day is going to be 1/2 percent.
- 50:02Not every day will be 1/2 percent.
- 50:04Yeah. And it's important to note that
- 50:06too, because when you're trying to make progress, it's important
- 50:09to bear that mentality. I'm like, OK, I'm not living
- 50:12Jesse's life. I'm not living my dad's life.
- 50:15I'm not living my mom's life. I'm living.
- 50:20Patrick's life. My life?
- 50:22Exactly. Take a breath every now and
- 50:24you're like, OK, oh gosh, relax. It's the moment for a reason.
- 50:33Just go with the flow. Same with the flow.
- 50:37I'm going to take a break here in a couple seconds, you know?
- 50:39Yeah, but. We'll go ahead and we'll take a
- 50:43quick break. I'll, I'll put something up here
- 50:46for the listeners and the viewers to just kind of be be
- 50:50aware of. But yeah, just listen, you know,
- 50:52listen to what is already in you.
- 50:56Like, be sensitive to that and realize that, hey, this is
- 50:58coming to you for a reason. But more on that when we come
- 51:02back with Patrick Walsh and we'll be right back here after
- 51:05this short break. We'll see you guys soon.
- 51:20The. The
- 52:20None. None.
- 53:14None. None.
- 54:13None. I'm sorry.
- 55:02Wow, Hello there. Hello.
- 55:04Again, how you doing? Fancy meeting you here.
- 55:11Yeah, thanks everybody, for the quick break there.
- 55:13Much needed. But yeah, man, I don't know.
- 55:17Like, one of the things that, like my trip over the weekend
- 55:23taught me was I hit a moment of discovery where the past has
- 55:33happened. You know, a lot of times we, we
- 55:37get flashbacks of things that have happened and we try to
- 55:42stick to the past a lot. We try to be focused a lot on
- 55:48the past and we lose sight of what's happening right in front
- 55:51of us that we are part of in the moment.
- 55:55And one of the things that was like a realization for me was
- 56:00you can see the past, right? Those memories, those visions,
- 56:04those things are going to be very vivid because they've
- 56:08happened. The present is happening.
- 56:12We are shaping it. It's occurring right in front of
- 56:16us. So those those visions, those
- 56:20realizations of things are going to be a little bit, not as
- 56:24clear. They're going to be a little bit
- 56:28cloudy like yeah, you can see sort of what's going on.
- 56:31But until you clear the muck away and and and do the thing
- 56:34about what's happening in the moment, right, it's it's not
- 56:36quite so clear. And then the future, what is
- 56:38going to happen is like so cloudy.
- 56:42It's it's it's You barely make out the shapes.
- 56:45Why? Why is that right?
- 56:47Why is that? Well, it's because it hasn't
- 56:49happened yet. The thing that's going to become
- 56:51the future hasn't molded into itself yet.
- 56:55Like, we haven't reached that point.
- 56:57So that was one of the things that I learned over this past
- 57:00weekend was how how powerful we really are to shape our own path
- 57:09and to shape weird. We are shapers of weird.
- 57:12You know? Things are happening because
- 57:13we're doing it. I mean, other things happen
- 57:17outside of our involvement, but that's not what I'm talking
- 57:20about. I'm talking about our wounds,
- 57:23right, That have happened already.
- 57:25We can see it. Well, what are we doing now in
- 57:29the moment to fix, to heal? And I use fix in the terms of
- 57:35like, again, I'm not trying to say that, well, once you do AB
- 57:38and C, all of a sudden it's gone.
- 57:41I do think that there is an an interesting perspective to take
- 57:46on it though is that you know once something is healed cause a
- 57:50lot of us have a lot of different things that we're
- 57:51dealing with, you know what I mean?
- 57:54But once something is healed then we're not going to keep
- 57:59continue treating the problem as though it needs to be healed.
- 58:06Like, for example, a broken arm only needs to be kept in a cast
- 58:11for the time that it's needed to heal.
- 58:14Then once it's healed, it comes out of the cast and you go on
- 58:16with life. Yeah, sure, there might be
- 58:18things about the limb or whatever that don't work quite
- 58:20as good because of that injury, but you're not going to continue
- 58:23wearing a cast indefinitely because of a broken limb.
- 58:26No. So that's what I'm trying to say
- 58:28is like there are things about wounds that once you dress it,
- 58:34once you tackle the issue, once you finish the work and then
- 58:41it's just a maintenance thing at that point, you know you're not,
- 58:43you're not having to go in and and and do the hard stuff.
- 58:47Anymore. And start over again, other
- 58:50things are a little bit more intricate.
- 58:52You know, my dad, he had broken his back years and years ago.
- 58:56And that's the thing that doesn't really truly go away.
- 58:58I mean, there's weather. There's all kinds of things that
- 59:01that cause issues, right? Especially if you're not taking
- 59:03care of yourself. And that's where possible.
- 59:06But it's it's not like you can just would be done with with
- 59:10with a spinal injury by you know one and done it's it's it's an
- 59:15ongoing therapeutic process of healing.
- 59:21So it it isn't A1 size fits all approach but I think in the
- 59:26context of what we're saying, you know we you and I can speak
- 59:31very specifically about the the way that animistic practices and
- 59:36connecting to the land have helped us heal from things in
- 59:40the past. You know you've got your spot in
- 59:42the woods with the deer, which by the way when I was on the
- 59:46trail I I got to say like I was, I was dog tired coming back
- 59:53leaving today because when I went out there I was fresh.
- 59:56You know what I'm saying? I had a had a good night's sleep
- 59:58in front of me and sure it was like a five and a half mile walk
- 1:00:02with 40 lbs on my back. But when I got to my campsite
- 1:00:05I'm like, yeah, I'm tired but I'm, I'm good.
- 1:00:07Well. This morning or yeah.
- 1:00:10So like the time of recording, like it was a Sunday when I went
- 1:00:13out there and Monday when I came back.
- 1:00:15Monday morning when I went back. I'm like, I still feel tired.
- 1:00:19I still feel sore from the walk in and now I got to walk back
- 1:00:22out. So the walk out was way tougher
- 1:00:26on me physically than it was going in.
- 1:00:28And on my way out, I'm like, I'm having to stop a few different
- 1:00:31times and just sit, catch my breath, you know?
- 1:00:36And a couple of times I I remember this one point, I
- 1:00:41stopped and I looked and I'm sitting there and just kind of
- 1:00:44catching my breath. And right in front of me, up on
- 1:00:46up in the wood line is a doe and she's just walking down through
- 1:00:52and and I thought of you, 'cause I'm like, if that was Patrick
- 1:00:57here, he'd be like he'd be having a time.
- 1:01:00Keep going. Keep going, man.
- 1:01:02You know, and I had, I had my own animistic experiences on the
- 1:01:08way out and while I was there, you know, I'm walking out the
- 1:01:12Percy Priest Lake is right. Basically the way the trail goes
- 1:01:16is you're walking the edge of the lake to the campsite.
- 1:01:20So you're you're constantly near water to some degree.
- 1:01:24And like, at one point I had stopped and taking a picture
- 1:01:31because it was like a picturesque scene.
- 1:01:33Like there was the water, the trees, like I'm in the woods.
- 1:01:35It was like, it was beautiful. And I like, I stopped to take a
- 1:01:38picture. And then all of a sudden, just
- 1:01:40across the water, here comes the Heron and it caught.
- 1:01:43I caught it on camera. Like, granted, it's water,
- 1:01:47they're always flying around. But I'm like the the timing of
- 1:01:49it was too perfect. Like, I couldn't have planned it
- 1:01:52unless I had a tripod and a camera and I was sitting there
- 1:01:55waiting to capture it. This was just an impromptu
- 1:01:59moment, right place, right time sort of thing.
- 1:02:02And then so that was a neat experience, right?
- 1:02:05The animistic side of of of of the healing was being and and
- 1:02:10feeling connected to the animal spirit, the spirit that lives in
- 1:02:15the animals of of the wild, getting a chance to experience
- 1:02:18that moment with them. And then when I get to my
- 1:02:20campsite, it was like all night long I could hear this, you
- 1:02:22know, just they're all croaking around me.
- 1:02:26And I'm like, yes, tell sing me your song, you know what I mean?
- 1:02:31And I heard owls and and all kinds of of wildlife that are
- 1:02:35active in the night. But then when I came back and I
- 1:02:37see the deer, I was like, ah, that made me think of you, you
- 1:02:41know? I'm very honored to be
- 1:02:44associated with deer, but also something I'd like to share with
- 1:02:46you too is a few days ago I had a really rough day.
- 1:02:51I won't go into details, but it's a rough time just like any
- 1:02:55other. And I went to my my park and at
- 1:03:00this the whole time like man, I'm just not feeling it.
- 1:03:04So I might get a little emotional here, but I just felt
- 1:03:08overwhelmed. It's just sad.
- 1:03:13And then I I saw my dear and their all their glory just
- 1:03:24looking at me like, hey, what the hell are you worried about,
- 1:03:26dude? Life is live.
- 1:03:28You're going to do what you're going to do.
- 1:03:30And then shortly after that, I was walking further down the
- 1:03:34path and I saw a hawk resting on a tree branch.
- 1:03:38I'm like hawk a deer. I firmly believe there is no
- 1:03:42such thing as coincidence. Everything will present itself
- 1:03:45to you in due time. Now it can be very frustrating
- 1:03:48at times. Do you want that?
- 1:03:53You want the inspiration and desire to do better.
- 1:03:57It'll come to you when it's meant to come to you.
- 1:04:00It's OK to feel fucked up. It's OK to feel sad, angry.
- 1:04:06Just don't be drowning in a sea of those feelings.
- 1:04:10No, you're not drowning at all. You're not gasper air.
- 1:04:15You're in that moment. Your head will rise above the
- 1:04:18water. The sun will rise again.
- 1:04:22The moon will rise again. The stars will shine again.
- 1:04:25They'll always be there, just as well as yourself until our last
- 1:04:29final breath, obviously. But ultimately, in the
- 1:04:32experience we face every day, it's OK to have those modes of
- 1:04:39doubt, uncertainty, confidence, love and everything in that
- 1:04:44spectrum. It's OK to feel that way.
- 1:04:46And that's something tears will show me.
- 1:04:49And at the same time, you know, they ultimately, I will face
- 1:04:52that truth as they are animals, true and true.
- 1:04:56But at the same time, I feel like in my heart and my soul
- 1:05:00that they have something to offer to me.
- 1:05:03And I'm very happy and very grateful to be reciprocate and
- 1:05:09open to that experience, just as you are with the hair.
- 1:05:13And it's just this something that's like, hey, a totem, a
- 1:05:17reminder like, hey, you're not alone.
- 1:05:20You have a great spirit. You have a great heart.
- 1:05:22You have a great personality. Keep it going.
- 1:05:27Keep it growing. Be who you are.
- 1:05:31Yeah, I think that's a good, a good reminder.
- 1:05:34You know, like, yes, they are animals and yes, they do animal
- 1:05:37things and just because we may be in the moment there to
- 1:05:43experience it with them doesn't, you know.
- 1:05:46The fact that they're animals. Yeah, like it isn't.
- 1:05:49It's like, oh, they're here for me.
- 1:05:50I mean, no. They're not.
- 1:05:52They're not exactly, but they play.
- 1:05:53A role. They definitely play a role.
- 1:05:55Right. And you're again, right time,
- 1:05:57right place. You know, we're we're in that
- 1:06:00moment with them. I can't tell you how many times
- 1:06:02I've gone to the river and don't see a Heron, you know what I
- 1:06:05mean? And at one point I had become
- 1:06:07really discouraged because of that.
- 1:06:09Because I'm like why am I not seeing why why why are they not
- 1:06:15making themselves manifest? Me this, this, this animal
- 1:06:17spirit that I feel so connected to from other experiences in the
- 1:06:22past. Why now all of a sudden are they
- 1:06:24not there? And I, you know part of me, you
- 1:06:27know I I start like over analyzing it, you know and I go,
- 1:06:31is it something I'm doing? Am I drawing away?
- 1:06:33Am I, am I disconnecting myself from that and it And I'm like, I
- 1:06:37I reached the point to to realize that it's it ain't about
- 1:06:40that. Like you feeling a connection to
- 1:06:44the deer or me feeling a connection to a heroine or or
- 1:06:46any other person that animistic side of us that that we choose
- 1:06:51to explore. Those are just, you know, those
- 1:06:56are external moments that I think kind of validate what's in
- 1:07:02US, what, what we're already a part of.
- 1:07:04It's like just because we don't see it, doesn't mean that it's
- 1:07:07not there. Just because we don't, you know,
- 1:07:10experience that connection in the moment doesn't mean that
- 1:07:14we're not perpetually a part of the picture, that that we're not
- 1:07:20always that thing. It's just that we're not
- 1:07:25experiencing it in in the way that we as humans so gravely
- 1:07:31crave and desire. Like we want that validation.
- 1:07:33We want that confirmation. I if I see it, then it's real.
- 1:07:38You know what I'm saying? Yeah, exactly.
- 1:07:42That that kind of goes into something you cover recently is
- 1:07:45like having a tribe, like a tribe of people who live near
- 1:07:50you, as you know as well as well as many of my friends, my family
- 1:07:53even know is a lot of my friends.
- 1:07:57Like 90% of my friends like you, my brother, live 5 hours away
- 1:08:03from me. Just because I can't see you,
- 1:08:08Jesse, doesn't mean you're not fucking there, does.
- 1:08:12It's the experience of Far the Mountain.
- 1:08:14Just because that has passed and that time has passed to doesn't
- 1:08:20mean that moment that far at my mountain doesn't burn.
- 1:08:25You know that Flame is still there, That desire, that
- 1:08:28connection is still there. And a lot of you who are solo
- 1:08:32purchasers like myself, don't be discouraged.
- 1:08:35Just because you don't have people who live near and close
- 1:08:38to you, it doesn't mean your your commitment that your
- 1:08:42connection is any less valid. You practice what you're
- 1:08:45practicing, you make the best of what you've got, and this is
- 1:08:49very important to note of and to remind yourself as often as you
- 1:08:52can. Don't be discouraged by being
- 1:08:54old, but don't be discouraged also by seeking out and making
- 1:08:58something for your own like Jesse has with his tribe.
- 1:09:03Yes, it's. It's all part of the work, you
- 1:09:05know. You know, things just don't land
- 1:09:09in our laps. If you want it, make it happen,
- 1:09:14go looking for it. Do the work, be active.
- 1:09:17Right. Just do it.
- 1:09:18Be be alive in it. I can't.
- 1:09:21You know, I've talked before too, about like what?
- 1:09:23Well, what do you believe in? Well, if you believe in
- 1:09:26something, to me, to be to believe means to be alive.
- 1:09:32So if I'm going to believe in something, then I'm going to be
- 1:09:34alive in it. It's not going to be casual.
- 1:09:37I'll do it every so often, like I'm going to find a way to live
- 1:09:41it. It's going to be my lifestyle.
- 1:09:44I love that. You know what?
- 1:09:45I mean, love that. I really love that.
- 1:09:47Be live. Be alive.
- 1:09:49Be alive. Yeah, That's beautiful.
- 1:09:51Well set, my brother. Well.
- 1:09:54And I would encourage everybody and anybody that is looking for
- 1:09:58that is, well, if you are about it, then be about it, right,
- 1:10:01live it And it's, you know, it's not to try to prove anything,
- 1:10:05it's not to try to you know. Not contact.
- 1:10:08Unless it's to yourself. Like, hey, I can do this.
- 1:10:11Like, I mean, because granted, I, you know so much of what this
- 1:10:13past weekend's trip for me about was to prove to myself that I
- 1:10:19could do this despite what others may have said.
- 1:10:22You know you can't do that. You shouldn't do that.
- 1:10:25That's not smart. Well, I'm gonna do the best that
- 1:10:29I can. I'm gonna take all the
- 1:10:30precautions that I can, but I'm not gonna, I'm not gonna prevent
- 1:10:32myself from doing what I know I need to do just because you
- 1:10:35think I shouldn't or whatever. You know what I mean?
- 1:10:38Like, and there's a fine line for that, cuz sometimes people
- 1:10:41want to do things that are just downright stupid and they
- 1:10:44shouldn't. However.
- 1:10:46Recklessness, yeah. Yeah, they'll be reckless,
- 1:10:48right? However, if if you're of a sound
- 1:10:51mind and you've got a plan and a purpose behind it, it may sound
- 1:10:55crazy, it may sound off the off the charts kind of cuckoo for
- 1:10:59Cocoa Puffs, but it's somebody's opinion, man.
- 1:11:03Like it's like, it's like the dude you know, Well, you know
- 1:11:06that's just like your opinion, man.
- 1:11:09And. That's why.
- 1:11:11I need to do this right? They need to do this, and you're
- 1:11:14going to come out out of the end of it.
- 1:11:18Like you're going to come out from that moment where people
- 1:11:20are like, what is wrong with you?
- 1:11:22Well, when you come back from that experience, be like, I
- 1:11:26don't know, man, what is wrong with me?
- 1:11:28Better yet, if there's anything wrong with me, what's?
- 1:11:30Right with you. What is right with you,
- 1:11:32motherfucker? You tell me what's right with
- 1:11:34you. You tell me what you've done to
- 1:11:37earn your bread. What have you done to earn your
- 1:11:39badge of honor? What have you done to be the man
- 1:11:42that you are, the woman that you are?
- 1:11:44What have you done? Yeah, well, you sitting here
- 1:11:46pointing fingers about what you don't think I should do?
- 1:11:49Well, how about you turn that finger around and go, well, what
- 1:11:52should I be doing? It's like I'm not doing this to
- 1:11:56prove a point. I'm doing it to prove to myself
- 1:11:59that I can do it. And if in the process that helps
- 1:12:03somebody else become inspired to pull up their own but, you know,
- 1:12:09buckle up themselves and do something, then hell yeah, I'm
- 1:12:12glad I did it. Because that inspired somebody
- 1:12:14else to get up off their ass and stop pointing fingers at
- 1:12:18somebody else and turn around and do something of worth for
- 1:12:21themselves and show others in their life what they can do.
- 1:12:24Because it can only go up from there, right?
- 1:12:27You show somebody else your worth.
- 1:12:28Those people that love you, those people that mean something
- 1:12:30to you, they're going to be, they're going to be behind you,
- 1:12:32right? Yeah.
- 1:12:34Good for you, man. I you know, and guess what?
- 1:12:36Like, you inspired me to? To want to do something right
- 1:12:39and to dig up some of these issues that I've had, you know,
- 1:12:42problems with, right. Go into the healing aspect and
- 1:12:47and wow, you're so you know, like you, you inspired me to do
- 1:12:50it. I've been there, right.
- 1:12:51A lot of what I've come to learn and and practice and navigate
- 1:12:57towards, You know, I didn't just wake up one day and be like, I'm
- 1:13:00going to do that. It was because I saw other
- 1:13:04people doing things of an inspiring nature that inspired
- 1:13:07me to want to explore what they're getting out of it,
- 1:13:11right? What can I get out of it myself?
- 1:13:14It's not to try to be like them. It's not a competition like you
- 1:13:16said before, but man. Just to embody them.
- 1:13:20Yeah, I wanna feel that too. I wanna, I wanna experience
- 1:13:23something like that too. And if that's what it takes, if
- 1:13:26I can go through something like that, an ordeal or whatever, and
- 1:13:30come out victorious on the other end, then why wouldn't I?
- 1:13:35So what if it sucks in the moment, right?
- 1:13:37I still feel like I told you earlier, I still feel like a
- 1:13:39train ran over me. I feel like physical dog shit
- 1:13:44because 45 lbs of weight, you know, 10 miles plus over the
- 1:13:49last 24 hours. But guess what?
- 1:13:51In a couple days I'll be over it.
- 1:13:53I'll be physically fine in a couple.
- 1:13:54I won't be hurt sore anymore. No, not a lot, but I've got all
- 1:13:59experience. You're just.
- 1:14:02Exactly. Everything that that experience
- 1:14:04taught me with me forever. Now that's what's going to
- 1:14:09stick. That's what I'm going to carry
- 1:14:11with me. And that's also very important
- 1:14:13to mention this my brother mentioned to all you were
- 1:14:15watching is you know. Again though, what it may be
- 1:14:20deal with is very messed up, challenging and hard.
- 1:14:25Stick to it. Keep fighting.
- 1:14:28Do what you do. You'll just don't give up.
- 1:14:31Yeah, keep on, man, Keep on, keeping on, you know, But I
- 1:14:39think that's about good, man. I think we got a good.
- 1:14:41I think we got a good episode in.
- 1:14:42What do you think? I agree.
- 1:14:44Absolutely, Yeah. I'm glad we got a chance to get
- 1:14:47you on here to talk about it and go over some of our own personal
- 1:14:51experiences and share our own, you know, moments of and
- 1:14:56appreciation. Yeah, yeah, all of it, man.
- 1:15:00You got a, you got a way of of explaining things and I think a
- 1:15:03lot of people can relate to and I appreciate you being willing
- 1:15:06to do that. I appreciate you saying, though,
- 1:15:08that means the world to me. It's one thing thinking these
- 1:15:11things, but to hear from the outside source that comes back
- 1:15:15to, you know, seeking approval, while it's nice to have people
- 1:15:20like you or anyone else in my life to say these things, that's
- 1:15:24something I'm also learning too as well.
- 1:15:26To see that before anyone else, like, hey, you know, myself,
- 1:15:31Patrick, you you dealt with, you know, recover from heroin, you,
- 1:15:36you deal with depression every day.
- 1:15:38I'm like, you know, I want to see that work for anyone else.
- 1:15:41And I thought that's a noble and great goal for all of us to
- 1:15:44have. See the wealth, see your work
- 1:15:46before anyone else, and shine bright and shine true.
- 1:15:51Yeah. And do it if the if the
- 1:15:54validation comes or not, you know what I mean?
- 1:15:56Like So what if somebody doesn't pat you on the back or give you
- 1:16:01that validation, right. At least you've done it and you
- 1:16:04know you've done it. We know we've done it right.
- 1:16:08I don't need the validation from others.
- 1:16:10And people can still think what they want to think.
- 1:16:12It's, you know, they're entitled.
- 1:16:13To that people are people. That's all they.
- 1:16:15Need to do it. Crazy for it if I'm.
- 1:16:17If I'm if I'm, you know turning 40 this year and this is my
- 1:16:19midlife crisis quote UN quote. Well then.
- 1:16:22I guess it is. Yeah.
- 1:16:24I'll shoot that too. So, but I do appreciate you
