- 0:01Speaker 1: You're listening to a DM podcast.
- 0:03Speaker 2: We'll try to keep it as nice as we can,
- 0:05Speaker 2: but you might hear the occasional swear word in No Dribble.
- 0:07Speaker 3: Don't tell mom.
- 0:20Speaker 2: All right, Hello, and welcome to No Dribble. This week
- 0:23Speaker 2: we saw four teams become three. We still have three
- 0:27Speaker 2: hosting No Dribble this week, though we have me Carolyn Swindell.
- 0:31Speaker 2: We have and we have the Elizabeth you have when
- 0:33Speaker 2: you're not having the Elizabeth, the Clayton's Elizabeth Ellis we
- 0:36Speaker 2: have from the wild West.
- 0:38Speaker 4: So Gordian very happy to be the vice chair. I
- 0:40Speaker 4: want to call myself vice chair.
- 0:42Speaker 2: Hail to the Chief or the vice chief, the assistant
- 0:44Speaker 2: to the chief. Anyway, what a crazy week that we
- 0:47Speaker 2: have had. I just want to say that I managed
- 0:49Speaker 2: to tip one game correctly this weekend, breaking a perfect record.
- 0:54Speaker 5: Yes, which one was it? Thunder Birds Fever Fever.
- 0:57Speaker 2: I thought Fever were going to be tough to beat
- 0:59Speaker 2: at home, and then in the first quarter I thought,
- 1:01Speaker 2: oh my god, I've done it again.
- 1:02Speaker 5: But can we talk about the poll you put on Facebook?
- 1:05Speaker 5: Just on that because that was very funny.
- 1:08Speaker 2: I love our dribblers so much. I thought you girls
- 1:11Speaker 2: were busy doing your commentary. But I thought, just before
- 1:13Speaker 2: the game, I put up a quick poll. See, let's
- 1:15Speaker 2: see who we're tipping. Who are we going to have?
- 1:17Speaker 2: So it was quite simple. We had I think Thunderbirds
- 1:19Speaker 2: will win. I think Vixens will win. I think it'll
- 1:21Speaker 2: be Thunderbirds an extra time. I think it'll be Vixens
- 1:23Speaker 2: in extra time. So at the time of the first
- 1:26Speaker 2: center pass of the Thunderbirds Vixen's game, we had thirty
- 1:30Speaker 2: four votes for the Thunderbirds to win, thirty votes for
- 1:33Speaker 2: Vixens to win. By someday we had one hundred and
- 1:36Speaker 2: thirty eight votes for Thunderbirds. So there are so many
- 1:40Speaker 2: people who tipped correctly. Once the game was over and
- 1:43Speaker 2: the score was known.
- 1:44Speaker 5: Now, can I tell you a little secret. I was
- 1:46Speaker 5: one of those people.
- 1:50Speaker 2: I was about producer. I actually didn't even write a post.
- 1:53Speaker 2: I didn't know how to. I couldn't stop the votes
- 1:56Speaker 2: without taking the whole thing down. I thought, actually, there's
- 1:58Speaker 2: some nice chat going on here. I wanted to leave
- 2:01Speaker 2: it up, but God, that made me laugh, and it happened.
- 2:03Speaker 2: It happened again in the Fever Sunshine Coast game too.
- 2:07Speaker 2: That after the game was over we kept getting votes.
- 2:09Speaker 2: We had we had one of our Drippler's Raeli Noble
- 2:12Speaker 2: vote for every option in the first poll, which and
- 2:17Speaker 2: a reasonably popular option was I will vote for whoever
- 2:21Speaker 2: is the opposite to Carolyn's tipping.
- 2:23Speaker 6: So they learning, aren't they? Very quickly?
- 2:26Speaker 3: These s.
- 2:28Speaker 2: I was asked not to tip the Sunshine Coast.
- 2:31Speaker 5: Shame. It's not that easy when the Melbourne Cup's running.
- 2:33Speaker 5: You put your bed on after the race.
- 2:37Speaker 2: Get yeah, absolutely, But we we will obviously have plenty
- 2:41Speaker 2: of netball talk. But the other thing we have to
- 2:43Speaker 2: talk about this week, and we talked, we hooked on
- 2:45Speaker 2: this last week was that Gordy has some stories to
- 2:48Speaker 2: tell us about John bon Jovi and Madonna. So those
- 2:52Speaker 2: we will get to the bottom of those today.
- 2:55Speaker 5: And I might have made everybody think the story that's
- 2:59Speaker 5: coming is different to what it actually will be, because
- 3:03Speaker 5: I believe we were talking about hooking up with musicians.
- 3:06Speaker 5: Blue wigglesonsted me to think of your two stories, but
- 3:11Speaker 5: I was actually thinking musicians, not Gaudy hooking up with musicians.
- 3:15Speaker 5: So if you've just tuned in to hear Gordy hook
- 3:18Speaker 5: up with John bon Jovi and Madonna, I'm sorry, but
- 3:21Speaker 5: that did not happen.
- 3:23Speaker 6: I keep dreaming, as I did all week after you
- 3:25Speaker 6: said that, cat, do you worry?
- 3:26Speaker 2: Ha ha? Well, I've got a packet of fruit chucks
- 3:30Speaker 2: that cathbought, so it's but that's better than popcorn as
- 3:32Speaker 2: far as I'm consentsed, I'm looking forward to hearing that story.
- 3:34Speaker 5: I really know how lucky you are that I brought these.
- 3:37Speaker 5: Thank you, honestly, Like at the venue, they generally put
- 3:41Speaker 5: them in our chain room, in our comms room, and
- 3:43Speaker 5: when I walked in there, I was gutted because there
- 3:46Speaker 5: wasn't an in there so much so I had to
- 3:47Speaker 5: go looking for them. I'm that pest that's like, Hi, guys,
- 3:51Speaker 5: how are you going? Just wondering where the fruit where?
- 3:55Speaker 5: This wet I got four packets and I was walking
- 3:58Speaker 5: out with them, put them in my bag. One of
- 4:01Speaker 5: the guys, the volunteers that works there, said, now, I
- 4:03Speaker 5: hope you're taking one of those home to Harper and
- 4:05Speaker 5: I'm like, what are you the fruit chop police?
- 4:09Speaker 2: What about Carolyn? She's the one who asked for it
- 4:11Speaker 2: on face?
- 4:11Speaker 5: So you're welcome, thank you.
- 4:14Speaker 2: I appreciate it. It is absolutely delicious, but you have
- 4:19Speaker 2: had a rough couple of days. You've got something that
- 4:23Speaker 2: you need to share with us. I believe it's.
- 4:25Speaker 5: Just the traveling and people's hygiene. I've noticed more and
- 4:31Speaker 5: more when I'm traveling. Can I just start with this one?
- 4:33Speaker 3: So?
- 4:34Speaker 5: This perplexes me every time I see it? Who puts
- 4:38Speaker 5: the toilet seat down in a public toilet? Because so
- 4:43Speaker 5: many times I would walk into a toilet and the
- 4:45Speaker 5: seat's down, so somebody is voluntarily touched.
- 4:49Speaker 2: So then you have an extra touching of something, you
- 4:51Speaker 2: have to pick it up. Thank you for giving me
- 4:54Speaker 2: something else to be neurotic about.
- 4:55Speaker 5: Now.
- 4:56Speaker 2: It's not something I'd ever thought about, but thank you.
- 4:58Speaker 5: That's what I put a toilet seat down in a
- 5:00Speaker 5: public toilet.
- 5:01Speaker 4: The word public toilet makes me feel uncomfortable. Just to
- 5:04Speaker 4: begin with, I used to think you're the comedian on this, Carolin,
- 5:08Speaker 4: But I used to I don't know why I used
- 5:09Speaker 4: to have.
- 5:10Speaker 6: I used to have a skit in my head.
- 5:12Speaker 4: If I was ever to become a comedian, it would
- 5:14Speaker 4: be about public toilets and the things that go on
- 5:16Speaker 4: in there and not wanting.
- 5:18Speaker 5: To make a noise type of thing.
- 5:20Speaker 6: Oh thats why is your your mind? Goes to the
- 5:24Speaker 6: utter in single time.
- 5:28Speaker 2: No, the more the performance anxiety. And we did. We
- 5:31Speaker 2: had this for you a few weeks ago. Didn't we
- 5:34Speaker 2: would have your stream judged. But it was a lovely
- 5:36Speaker 2: woman named Carol.
- 5:37Speaker 5: So guess what happened. Sorry, just on that. On the
- 5:39Speaker 5: weekend again, we had rehearsals ran so late we had
- 5:43Speaker 5: I had no toilet time, you know how I have
- 5:45Speaker 5: to have my toilet time in between rehearsals, and the
- 5:47Speaker 5: game had no time. So half time we did our
- 5:51Speaker 5: hosting and I said to be Anka, I've got to
- 5:53Speaker 5: go to the loo. Can you cover me if I'm
- 5:55Speaker 5: not back in time? Anyway, So I legged it down
- 5:57Speaker 5: the hallway and I'm to all the people that worked,
- 6:00Speaker 5: where's the closest toilet, and they pointed to this one.
- 6:04Speaker 5: So I just ran to it, opened the door and
- 6:05Speaker 5: there was a man in there. Oh and in the
- 6:09Speaker 5: midst of his business. Sorry, buddy, shut the door and
- 6:13Speaker 5: ran off down the hallway trying to find another one.
- 6:16Speaker 5: Oh my god. So the time I get back, I'm like,
- 6:18Speaker 5: welcome back.
- 6:19Speaker 6: To I've got a really good question for you.
- 6:24Speaker 3: Cat.
- 6:24Speaker 6: So you wore a suit.
- 6:25Speaker 4: On the weekend, d yes, So you have the pack
- 6:29Speaker 4: your microphone pack on the back of your pants.
- 6:31Speaker 2: Oh yeah, good question.
- 6:33Speaker 4: And then the cord that goes up the back of
- 6:35Speaker 4: your jacket and clips on the back if you're running
- 6:39Speaker 4: to the toilet. How does this exercise issues in my
- 6:44Speaker 4: time to the talt forgetting that the pack was on
- 6:47Speaker 4: and once that it dropped into the top.
- 6:49Speaker 5: I'm very aware of that, and I hold onto the pack.
- 6:52Speaker 5: But the amount of times the cords got up my
- 6:54Speaker 5: bum a dear, which I don't tell the audio guys
- 7:03Speaker 5: about when I hand it back at the end of the.
- 7:06Speaker 2: Well, aren't they lucky? Maybe they'll be Glenn twenty in
- 7:10Speaker 2: the equipment from now on too. So we did talk
- 7:16Speaker 2: about this last week and apparently this is not a
- 7:18Speaker 2: hooking up story, but we do. We need to get
- 7:20Speaker 2: to the bottom of this now, Gordy. So there are
- 7:22Speaker 2: there are stories about Madonna and John bon Jovi and
- 7:26Speaker 2: the bond John Jovi, you keep to yourself, that's for John.
- 7:31Speaker 2: If we ever set up Petreon with an X rated
- 7:35Speaker 2: no dribble, maybe we'll get back and tell that story.
- 7:37Speaker 6: But that's a few wines in a late night that one.
- 7:39Speaker 4: But which ones do you want first? You want do
- 7:41Speaker 4: you want John or Madge?
- 7:44Speaker 6: Is nickname is?
- 7:46Speaker 3: I think it is?
- 7:48Speaker 6: Let's go John John.
- 7:49Speaker 4: So all right, I was a Melbourne girl. I was
- 7:51Speaker 4: born in Melbourne and we were going out on a
- 7:53Speaker 4: Friday night with a group of friends and we were
- 7:56Speaker 4: going to a place called the Saloon Bar in Chapel
- 7:58Speaker 4: Street and it was the place that used to go
- 8:01Speaker 4: off and it had lost a little bit of its
- 8:02Speaker 4: buzz and so we thought we'll just go and have
- 8:04Speaker 4: a quiet drink there before we head on into the city.
- 8:07Speaker 4: And as it was, John bon Jovi was in town
- 8:09Speaker 4: that week, and everyone was mad for tickets got to
- 8:11Speaker 4: get to see John bon joviy blah blah blah.
- 8:13Speaker 6: Sold out in an instant.
- 8:15Speaker 4: Anyhow, I get up to go to the toilet at
- 8:17Speaker 4: this saloon bar, not very many people inside the place,
- 8:20Speaker 4: and as I come back out of the toilet, I
- 8:22Speaker 4: look on the outside of.
- 8:24Speaker 6: The building and it was like a flash mob of people.
- 8:27Speaker 4: I've never seen anything like it. So it went from
- 8:30Speaker 4: casually walking to the toilet and no one around to
- 8:33Speaker 4: this building having and there were security guards and it
- 8:36Speaker 4: was absolutely insane and probably within the next minute, I
- 8:40Speaker 4: think about one hundred more people were allowed into.
- 8:42Speaker 6: The saloon bar. So we were sitting there as two
- 8:45Speaker 6: friends and myself like what the heck's going on here?
- 8:47Speaker 4: And we were positioned probably two meters from where the
- 8:51Speaker 4: stage was that had a little stage which bands cover
- 8:54Speaker 4: bands would play. Anyhow, two seconds later, looking up on
- 8:58Speaker 4: the stage and upwalks John Bonjo and who's the Guitaristora,
- 9:02Speaker 4: Ritchie Sambora, Richie Sanbora just casually walks up onto the
- 9:06Speaker 4: stage and they sit down on the chair and everyone's
- 9:08Speaker 4: just like looking around. I'm like, oh, John bon Job
- 9:12Speaker 4: and he's like get everyone here going.
- 9:14Speaker 6: We're like good, how are you?
- 9:16Speaker 4: And yeah, he just came to do a and apparently
- 9:19Speaker 4: this is a little bit of his repertoire before he
- 9:20Speaker 4: does a massive gig like an mcg gig. He'll find
- 9:25Speaker 4: just a little bar somewhere in the local town and
- 9:28Speaker 4: goes in with Richie and they just do their set
- 9:31Speaker 4: pretty much as a warm up before they get out
- 9:34Speaker 4: on the.
- 9:34Speaker 6: Big stage the following night.
- 9:35Speaker 4: So somehow this had leaped through the radio and everybody
- 9:38Speaker 4: was sort of scrambling, but they wouldn't let anyone in.
- 9:41Speaker 6: So we were just on a quiet night.
- 9:42Speaker 2: Out and were you like can you guys keep it?
- 9:45Speaker 2: Damn we're having a conversation here.
- 9:47Speaker 4: I don't know if you were coming, I wouldn't have right,
- 9:49Speaker 4: So yeah, it was huge. So and look, I'm not
- 9:53Speaker 4: a big bon Jovi fan. Kats dragged me, I think
- 9:55Speaker 4: somewhere before.
- 9:57Speaker 2: You're halfway there.
- 9:58Speaker 5: They went to the But that's another thing into that's right,
- 10:00Speaker 5: the gunsight.
- 10:02Speaker 4: Yeah yeah, but there now didn't look he was brilliant.
- 10:04Speaker 4: And just like I'm a big acoustic fan, I'm not
- 10:07Speaker 4: as much a big band fan.
- 10:08Speaker 6: I just love acoustic sound. So I probably got the
- 10:11Speaker 6: best of the night. So that was a special one.
- 10:15Speaker 6: So me and John we go way back, way back.
- 10:18Speaker 2: I heard him mention this on a podcast the other day.
- 10:20Speaker 4: In fact, those three blonds sitting at the saloon bar,
- 10:25Speaker 4: one in the middle.
- 10:26Speaker 5: He's probably got a story for every city. That sounds
- 10:28Speaker 5: exactly that.
- 10:30Speaker 6: I'll tell you what. There's been some stories from that
- 10:32Speaker 6: saloon bar, I'm sure. So anyhow, so that was John Madonna.
- 10:35Speaker 6: Well that's the other one. So the Madge one.
- 10:37Speaker 4: Very simply, I had my heart set on doing this
- 10:39Speaker 4: netball clinic at the very time.
- 10:41Speaker 6: On a Sunday morning, I got a phone.
- 10:43Speaker 4: Call from a friend of a friend who ran a
- 10:46Speaker 4: catering business and had been engaged by Michael Gadinsky, who
- 10:49Speaker 4: is the music was music promoter of many famous people.
- 10:54Speaker 4: He was having a private function at his house in
- 10:56Speaker 4: Mount Macedon former Donna and her entire band and an
- 11:00Speaker 4: entourage because they were in the midst of the Girly
- 11:02Speaker 4: Tour which was happening at the MCG and they were
- 11:05Speaker 4: one staff down.
- 11:06Speaker 6: Would I like to go?
- 11:07Speaker 4: And because I was, I worked in a bar at
- 11:09Speaker 4: the time called The Depot, which was the hottest spot
- 11:12Speaker 4: in Richmond to go to. I thought, I'll go along
- 11:14Speaker 4: and I can help out in any way possible. So
- 11:17Speaker 4: I went up to Mount Masidon on a Sunday lunchtime
- 11:20Speaker 4: and my first job and I'm allergic to seafood, so
- 11:23Speaker 4: everyone understands this. My first job was to clean out
- 11:28Speaker 4: the seafood trailer that had tipped over on the way
- 11:31Speaker 4: to the actual FUNCTIONEA. Food had gone everywhere and no
- 11:38Speaker 4: masks existed in these days.
- 11:41Speaker 2: I'd like break out massively, or it's.
- 11:43Speaker 4: Only if I eat it, But like the smell, just
- 11:46Speaker 4: like I was just regurgitating the whole time. Just yeah,
- 11:49Speaker 4: like that, the whole time, so I gave it a
- 11:51Speaker 4: quick sue Gordian clean and moved on. And then when
- 11:55Speaker 4: I came outside and I'd finished the job, the lady
- 11:58Speaker 4: that had employed me had come up and said, listen,
- 12:00Speaker 4: is there any chance you can run the bar.
- 12:02Speaker 6: We've lost a we've lost a member of our staff.
- 12:05Speaker 6: And I was like, okay, yet, no problems.
- 12:08Speaker 4: What's the deal and she said, it's the main bar
- 12:10Speaker 4: on the cocktail level. And to understand, Michael Gadinski's house
- 12:13Speaker 4: insane three levels. Every level had a different thing going on.
- 12:17Speaker 6: You could ride horses, put on.
- 12:19Speaker 4: Wrestling excellent horses on one level, then you put on
- 12:22Speaker 4: suma wrestling dolls on another level, and fun different food
- 12:26Speaker 4: on every level. But I was on the main level,
- 12:28Speaker 4: just outside of his house, in his kitchen and the area,
- 12:31Speaker 4: and it was the dance floor and I was basically
- 12:33Speaker 4: running the bar.
- 12:35Speaker 6: And the first crew that came in were her dancers.
- 12:37Speaker 4: So if you go back and watch The Girly in
- 12:40Speaker 4: Bed with Madonna, I think it was the movie the
- 12:43Speaker 4: thing she made. This was all of her entourage and
- 12:45Speaker 4: so her dances were there. A first dancer came up
- 12:48Speaker 4: to me and said, could I have a orange and vodka,
- 12:51Speaker 4: and I said, do you meet a vodka and orange
- 12:53Speaker 4: and he goes, no, I'm in an orange and vodka,
- 12:55Speaker 4: which was thirty mels orange and thrill the rest with vodka.
- 12:59Speaker 6: This is going to be a party and a half.
- 13:02Speaker 6: So anyhow, that was basically, and then the big rumor
- 13:05Speaker 6: was Madonna wasn't going to turn up.
- 13:06Speaker 4: Everyone was devastated, She's not going to come. I'd just
- 13:10Speaker 4: run out of strawberries, which I was making strawberry dakeerries.
- 13:12Speaker 4: So I popped inside to Michael, my new best friend's fridge,
- 13:16Speaker 4: pulled out a rock melon or a cantalope or whatever
- 13:18Speaker 4: it was because that was the only bit of fruit,
- 13:20Speaker 4: started chopping it up, making these cantile like dakeries.
- 13:23Speaker 2: And disgusting rock melon.
- 13:26Speaker 6: Yeah yeah, rock melon. I think Americans were there, so
- 13:30Speaker 6: that's how they call it.
- 13:32Speaker 4: And anyhow, so I was making it and then next minute,
- 13:33Speaker 4: this petit little thing says and I can't.
- 13:37Speaker 6: I'm I do Indian accents only, So I'm going to apologize.
- 13:40Speaker 2: You want Cat to do the accents because she's our
- 13:43Speaker 2: expert in that area, and you're just going to say,
- 13:46Speaker 2: what are you making there?
- 13:48Speaker 5: In an American accent, an American accent, Well you do it?
- 13:52Speaker 6: Any oh god?
- 13:53Speaker 2: What we could just ask people to put the accent
- 13:56Speaker 2: lens over in their minds as they're listening.
- 14:00Speaker 6: Anyhow, what are you making there?
- 14:01Speaker 4: And I looked and it was Madonna having a chat
- 14:04Speaker 4: with me, and she is she is tiny. I couldn't
- 14:06Speaker 4: believe it. So I told her I was making a
- 14:08Speaker 4: rock Melandacre.
- 14:09Speaker 6: Did you want one?
- 14:10Speaker 4: And she was like no, no, no, And she was
- 14:13Speaker 4: surrounded by these bodyguards that had gold jewelry you could
- 14:16Speaker 4: only think about in your dreams.
- 14:18Speaker 6: It was insane.
- 14:19Speaker 4: And then we went and made her a cup of tea,
- 14:21Speaker 4: and then she went inside and sat with what I
- 14:23Speaker 4: was trying to think it was John John Farnham, Tina Arena,
- 14:28Speaker 4: Peter Andre, Molly Meldrene, this was the crew at the time,
- 14:33Speaker 4: and they all sat around the.
- 14:34Speaker 6: TV and watched her last performance.
- 14:37Speaker 4: And then they just they just told her how brilliant
- 14:40Speaker 4: she was and she just sat there and smiled.
- 14:41Speaker 6: And that was my day. So it was it was
- 14:44Speaker 6: a huge It was a great day to meet Madonna.
- 14:45Speaker 6: And then the band.
- 14:47Speaker 4: The band wanted to go out afterwards, so I told
- 14:49Speaker 4: them come back to the pub. I was working at
- 14:51Speaker 4: and I'll put your names on the door, and sadly
- 14:54Speaker 4: the bouncer at the door didn't believe and so kicked
- 14:56Speaker 4: them out. And then I ended up running down Swan
- 14:58Speaker 4: Street and Richmond chasing them to drag them back.
- 15:00Speaker 6: Into the pub.
- 15:02Speaker 4: And then we gave them a drink card because that's
- 15:04Speaker 4: the thing you did back in those days. And then
- 15:05Speaker 4: they took over the band for the rest of the night,
- 15:07Speaker 4: which was under so it was it was a big
- 15:09Speaker 4: day at the office.
- 15:10Speaker 5: Get a massive pay rise that day far out.
- 15:13Speaker 6: Yeah, no, that's not at all, to be honest with you.
- 15:17Speaker 4: They were great, but they were drunk and they carved
- 15:19Speaker 4: up a bit of a storm in the pub, but
- 15:22Speaker 4: people didn't care.
- 15:22Speaker 6: So well, well.
- 15:25Speaker 5: I'm trying to think of the song since he said
- 15:28Speaker 5: his name, what was his was the one hit won?
- 15:30Speaker 2: I can only think of the abs. Yeah, give me
- 15:32Speaker 2: a little sun girl, Yeah, tell me that jim girl. Yeah,
- 15:39Speaker 2: give me give me some kind of sign girl.
- 15:42Speaker 6: Yeah, your voices actually sound like you.
- 15:46Speaker 2: Well, well that was certainly worth waiting for.
- 15:49Speaker 5: No crashing, no pertrashion. Well, not that you're aware of.
- 15:55Speaker 6: I'm sure there was, im, sure there was.
- 16:00Speaker 2: If you're not part of our Facebook group jump On.
- 16:02Speaker 2: It's so much fun. We have a lot of fun.
- 16:03Speaker 2: And we also have an Instagram page which is No
- 16:06Speaker 2: Underscore Dribble Underscore Podcast. You know, we have been getting
- 16:09Speaker 2: some great stories from dribblers in the past week. Have
- 16:12Speaker 2: you been seeing it? Well, I know you have been
- 16:13Speaker 2: seeing this, and Kat, this is something that we might
- 16:15Speaker 2: need some counseling for you on afterwards. But and Tieriky,
- 16:20Speaker 2: I'm apologizing for butchering your surname there. And but put
- 16:24Speaker 2: up a video of something that is a scrunchy Crocs collaboration.
- 16:30Speaker 5: No, come on, are you two down with the crocs?
- 16:34Speaker 6: No?
- 16:35Speaker 2: No, no, absolute vehement opposition to them.
- 16:39Speaker 6: Makes a big foot look gigantic.
- 16:41Speaker 5: Oh okay, And then it's the socks with the crocs.
- 16:44Speaker 5: And then don't even get me started on the length of.
- 16:46Speaker 2: The socks with the cross Well, that's a whole other conversation.
- 16:49Speaker 2: That is that is intergenerational warfare the sock length. At
- 16:52Speaker 2: the moment, it's yeah.
- 16:56Speaker 6: Stocks with crocs.
- 16:58Speaker 5: It doesn't mean it's right.
- 16:59Speaker 2: I see the convenience of putting the kroc on after
- 17:03Speaker 2: you've been doing sports. So it was quite big in
- 17:05Speaker 2: CrossFit as well, it used to be the slide and
- 17:07Speaker 2: the socks now seems to move.
- 17:08Speaker 1: To a crosh God, yes, from the chemist, that's very
- 17:12Speaker 1: old school, but yeah, and put up a video of
- 17:15Speaker 1: someone cutting a scrunchy and then feeding it around the
- 17:18Speaker 1: backstrap of the of the.
- 17:21Speaker 2: Croc, and I don't know. I just think sometimes collaborations
- 17:25Speaker 2: can go too far, and that that is a bridge
- 17:27Speaker 2: too far for me. You know, scrunchy is in hair
- 17:29Speaker 2: crocs in the bin, as far as I'm concerned, that's
- 17:32Speaker 2: where they belong.
- 17:33Speaker 5: It's not taking off, is it. That's not a thing.
- 17:36Speaker 2: I don't think it's taking off. I didn't see a
- 17:38Speaker 2: great wave of you know, thirteen million hits on TikTok
- 17:42Speaker 2: or whatever. I once saw a collaboration and I regret
- 17:45Speaker 2: not trying this. I know it would have been horrendous.
- 17:47Speaker 2: But in twenty nineteen, I was in Hawaii, and you know,
- 17:51Speaker 2: US is the land of the horrendous food collaborations. It
- 17:55Speaker 2: was a KFC Cheetos collaboration and it was like a
- 17:58Speaker 2: burger and the the chicken had been coated in cheetos
- 18:03Speaker 2: instead of bread crumbs. And I do regret not trying
- 18:07Speaker 2: it because it's like, it's probably not a once in
- 18:10Speaker 2: a lifetime thing, but you don't want to eat that
- 18:12Speaker 2: more than once in a lifetime.
- 18:13Speaker 6: But I was not more than once. But I'm kind
- 18:15Speaker 6: of okay with it. I feel like it might.
- 18:17Speaker 2: Work, thank you. See that's what I think. I'm a
- 18:20Speaker 2: little I feel a bit dirty thinking that, but I do.
- 18:23Speaker 2: I feel sad. I feel like that was a moment
- 18:26Speaker 2: and I passed up an opportunity. And travel is all
- 18:28Speaker 2: about broadening your mind and trying different cuisines.
- 18:31Speaker 5: What is it with the US that just try and
- 18:33Speaker 5: add as many calories to foods as they can? Because
- 18:37Speaker 5: there was also a period that they had a Hamburger
- 18:40Speaker 5: that had Crispy Kream donuts as the bun. Really just
- 18:45Speaker 5: to really give you a heart attack straight.
- 18:48Speaker 2: Up, that's a bit like a Briosh bun, isn't it.
- 18:50Speaker 2: That's too sweet for me. But anyway, Briosh sounds fancier
- 18:53Speaker 2: than doughnut bun, doesn't it.
- 18:54Speaker 4: I'd rather discuss Asia and some of the things people
- 18:57Speaker 4: like there, but that's probably another podcast.
- 18:59Speaker 5: It sounds like it.
- 19:00Speaker 2: But anyway, back back to our dribblers. So it's three
- 19:03Speaker 2: no'se on the scrunchy croc collaboration from the hosts of
- 19:07Speaker 2: No Dribble and had not hard hell no, And I
- 19:12Speaker 2: will check in with Liz. But I suspect that she
- 19:14Speaker 2: would also because she's a farmer, so she's on the farm,
- 19:19Speaker 2: all right. We're going to have to ask her about that,
- 19:21Speaker 2: or maybe we just never tell her that this exists.
- 19:24Speaker 5: She wouldn't wear crocs on a farm because its dangerous
- 19:26Speaker 5: toes covered. I got a little snakes to be able
- 19:28Speaker 5: to get the.
- 19:29Speaker 2: Whole last week we did have. Actually, before I move
- 19:33Speaker 2: on to the Harrison Hoist debate that went on, I
- 19:36Speaker 2: do need to apologize to you, Kath, because you were right.
- 19:39Speaker 2: I listened, and it was I misunderstood it at the time.
- 19:42Speaker 2: I thought it was about who was going to win
- 19:43Speaker 2: the whole season, but on listening, you were right. It
- 19:46Speaker 2: was about who would win the minor premiership. So you
- 19:49Speaker 2: are currently not required to wear a No Dribble scrunchy
- 19:53Speaker 2: or any scrunchy in public. However, I will if it
- 19:57Speaker 2: is the last thing. I do find a way to
- 19:59Speaker 2: make this happen.
- 20:00Speaker 5: Do you know what, though, I will after the Thunderbird's
- 20:02Speaker 5: performance on the weekend. This is going to be very
- 20:04Speaker 5: brave of me. I'll stick with them to win the
- 20:06Speaker 5: Grand Final.
- 20:07Speaker 2: I think that's probably a reasonable Ah.
- 20:12Speaker 6: Well, they're in the hot seat, they have been, they
- 20:13Speaker 6: are in how good?
- 20:15Speaker 2: So good? Yeah? Went that? Well, shall we talk about nipple?
- 20:18Speaker 2: Shall we talk about the weekend?
- 20:20Speaker 5: Do?
- 20:20Speaker 4: And I was going to say, straight up, did you
- 20:22Speaker 4: see how many scrunchies were on the court this weekend
- 20:25Speaker 4: amongst the fourteenth?
- 20:26Speaker 5: Yeah? Is that us? Because if it is, we need
- 20:28Speaker 5: to stop talking about it immediately.
- 20:30Speaker 2: Well, Lisa, my mind went with two ribbons instead of
- 20:32Speaker 2: two scrunchies. And I'm wondering whether in the post match
- 20:37Speaker 2: wash up they're going to be talking about that.
- 20:39Speaker 6: Oh yeah, Jamaicans are all wearing scrunchies.
- 20:42Speaker 5: So on the weekend. I was talking to Kate Maloney
- 20:44Speaker 5: before the game and I said to her, what's with
- 20:46Speaker 5: the blonde buns? I really struggled to distinguish you guys
- 20:50Speaker 5: from each other, And I said, you need something else
- 20:53Speaker 5: in your hair? And she goes, what like a ribbon
- 20:55Speaker 5: or something? No, Catherine, and I thought, oh my god,
- 20:58Speaker 5: See she's a passionate no to the ribbon as well,
- 21:01Speaker 5: ribbon scrunching, anything not having it, but we need something
- 21:04Speaker 5: to distinguish them. They've got to have a little stuck.
- 21:07Speaker 5: I don't know. You know that nasty hair spray paint
- 21:09Speaker 5: that I was talking about.
- 21:10Speaker 2: What about the Sue Gordy Gordian corn rows. I'd like
- 21:13Speaker 2: to see those making a comeback for the last two weeks.
- 21:16Speaker 6: Did you need One of the corn rows hit the
- 21:17Speaker 6: floor on the.
- 21:18Speaker 2: Weekend, Yes, and then was tucked into the underpants.
- 21:21Speaker 5: Did she seek that up under a uniform.
- 21:23Speaker 2: No, she just popped it where the cord for the
- 21:25Speaker 2: microphone pack would go.
- 21:28Speaker 6: Do you know what The first part about that, We've
- 21:30Speaker 6: got to talk about this. The first part about that
- 21:32Speaker 6: was I was.
- 21:33Speaker 4: In the middle of calling this great moment and Stacy
- 21:36Speaker 4: Francis Bayman, my co commentator, probably the only commentator I
- 21:40Speaker 4: felt that had the right to do this, cut me off,
- 21:44Speaker 4: completely apologized, and then drew everybody's attention to the fact
- 21:48Speaker 4: that Sunday Allying had just lost a braid.
- 21:50Speaker 6: From her hair.
- 21:51Speaker 4: I loved it, and I honestly had to mute my
- 21:53Speaker 4: mic because I was laughing, and I'm like, I wouldn't
- 21:56Speaker 4: I couldn't say it right Like to me, I wouldn't
- 21:58Speaker 4: say it.
- 21:58Speaker 6: You know, you just don't go there. I think had
- 22:00Speaker 6: some days here Sundays hair.
- 22:01Speaker 4: But Stacey was absolutely out her immediately there was gold,
- 22:05Speaker 4: absolutely brilliant.
- 22:06Speaker 5: But you know what all I was thinking is once
- 22:07Speaker 5: I saw a tuck it up. You know how the
- 22:09Speaker 5: photographers are out all trying to get these great shots.
- 22:11Speaker 5: All you need is that bit of the skirt somewhere.
- 22:18Speaker 5: That'd be the thing that makes the paper.
- 22:22Speaker 6: That's funny.
- 22:22Speaker 2: Yes, So that was only one of many highlights for
- 22:25Speaker 2: the weekend.
- 22:26Speaker 5: Oh god, well, our game. So the Thunderbirds game, I
- 22:29Speaker 5: don't think anybody would have tipped that margin. I tipped
- 22:33Speaker 5: the Vixens to win the game, so I did. Yeah,
- 22:36Speaker 5: I was watching No wait in our poll on Facebook.
- 22:38Speaker 5: I did it after the fact, But no, I did.
- 22:42Speaker 5: I tipped the Vixens. I thought, I don't know, they
- 22:44Speaker 5: would have learnt their lessons from the last time they
- 22:46Speaker 5: played them. They've got more experience when it comes to finals.
- 22:50Speaker 5: They've got players that have been around for a lot longer.
- 22:53Speaker 5: I don't know. I just thought they'd get one up
- 22:54Speaker 5: on them. But for them to be down by ten
- 22:57Speaker 5: whatever it was in the first quarter was just like
- 23:00Speaker 5: these guys don't even look like they're going to slow
- 23:02Speaker 5: up here. And then Shamira Sterling cleaning up three hundred intercepts.
- 23:07Speaker 2: Oh yeah, that's amazing, congratulations Shamira.
- 23:10Speaker 5: But it took her for eight forever. So we were
- 23:12Speaker 5: talking about this the whole game, and then I think
- 23:14Speaker 5: she got she had to get four to get to
- 23:16Speaker 5: the three.
- 23:16Speaker 2: Hund Just just take that back a step and tell
- 23:18Speaker 2: everyone what it was she needed to do and what
- 23:20Speaker 2: she had.
- 23:20Speaker 5: Well, she had to score or get four intercepts to
- 23:23Speaker 5: get to the record milestone that was three hundred, which
- 23:26Speaker 5: no other player has ever done in the competition. And
- 23:28Speaker 5: she had a really slow start to the game because
- 23:31Speaker 5: every other person in her team was getting intercepts before
- 23:33Speaker 5: it got down to her end.
- 23:34Speaker 6: Of the court.
- 23:35Speaker 5: And then I think it was probably only the third
- 23:37Speaker 5: and the fourth quarter that she started to get a
- 23:40Speaker 5: little bit of Shamira Sterling Humphrey magic. Magic.
- 23:44Speaker 1: Now.
- 23:44Speaker 5: I was going to say, there's so many words to
- 23:46Speaker 5: use there, and she got like three or four in
- 23:48Speaker 5: about a minute, ended up with fourteen games for the
- 23:52Speaker 5: whole game.
- 23:53Speaker 6: But do you know what wasn't just three or four
- 23:54Speaker 6: in a minute.
- 23:55Speaker 4: If you put them all together like they're three or
- 23:58Speaker 4: four of the most magical winn.
- 24:00Speaker 6: She's just insane. She's inside.
- 24:02Speaker 5: There was one point in the game she took a
- 24:05Speaker 5: rebound and fell over her own feet and dropped the
- 24:09Speaker 5: ball up over the baseline, and I think she honestly
- 24:12Speaker 5: was shocked at how high in the air she was.
- 24:15Speaker 5: It was scared to land it. It's exactly what.
- 24:17Speaker 2: It looked like again, got an air bus. She was insane.
- 24:23Speaker 6: What was what was the venue like?
- 24:26Speaker 5: Oh?
- 24:26Speaker 3: It was good.
- 24:26Speaker 5: It was really good. It was about two three thousand
- 24:29Speaker 5: less than what they would have had at Adelaide Entertainment Center,
- 24:31Speaker 5: but it was sold out. It was freaking freezing, but
- 24:36Speaker 5: the fruit trucks were on fruit trucks.
- 24:38Speaker 2: You eventually found the source.
- 24:41Speaker 5: That was good.
- 24:41Speaker 3: It was good.
- 24:42Speaker 2: I'm really having one.
- 24:43Speaker 5: Crowd was fantastic.
- 24:44Speaker 4: When you were worried last week, you said that the
- 24:46Speaker 4: potential of them losing a new.
- 24:48Speaker 2: Venue, well, I just thought it was unfair that they
- 24:51Speaker 2: lost their You know that they won this home ground
- 24:53Speaker 2: advantage through their performance through the season, and then that
- 24:56Speaker 2: gets taken away by some admin stuff. You know, it
- 25:01Speaker 2: clearly didn't seem to worry them in the sight, but
- 25:04Speaker 2: a shame that there's another couple of thousand people in
- 25:06Speaker 2: Adelaide who I'm sure would love to have gone to
- 25:08Speaker 2: that game.
- 25:09Speaker 4: Very true, But at a twenty five goal when you'd
- 25:11Speaker 4: almost be thinking we might go back to that venue,
- 25:14Speaker 4: you know, I probably love it, but you're right.
- 25:16Speaker 6: We need big, biggest, the biggest numbers possible for Grand
- 25:18Speaker 6: Final Day. Then, without a doubt.
- 25:20Speaker 2: I was a little sad to see some empty seats
- 25:22Speaker 2: in my second home, being the rac Arena like that,
- 25:26Speaker 2: that it's such a great venue and those crowds are
- 25:30Speaker 2: so such fervent Fever, such feverish Fever supporters. But yeah,
- 25:34Speaker 2: I was just surprised to see on the on the
- 25:37Speaker 2: broadcast that there were some empty seats there.
- 25:39Speaker 4: Yeah, I was disappointed and I was excited to call
- 25:42Speaker 4: a sell out game in Perth, but that didn't come
- 25:45Speaker 4: to fruition. And why not, Well, I don't know that
- 25:50Speaker 4: the ticket pricing was one hundred percent correct and Nipple
- 25:52Speaker 4: Australia run the finals, so it's up to the League
- 25:55Speaker 4: West Coast Fever hand all of that over. They certainly
- 25:58Speaker 4: provide the staff for the day, as would Adelaide Thunderbirds,
- 26:01Speaker 4: but the logistics that set up. The decision making around
- 26:05Speaker 4: ticket pricing, et cetera. All sits with the national body,
- 26:08Speaker 4: and I think there's probably some questions that need to
- 26:10Speaker 4: be begged about that in terms of a semi final,
- 26:12Speaker 4: given that what Fever have had the biggest crowds the
- 26:14Speaker 4: entire season, They had what ten to eleven and twelve.
- 26:16Speaker 2: Hours to sell out when they were playing the Giants, know.
- 26:19Speaker 4: Literally so disappointing, But anyhow, it didn't affect Fever's performance,
- 26:23Speaker 4: did it?
- 26:24Speaker 6: They got there in the end?
- 26:25Speaker 2: Oh yeah, that was looking a bit wobbly in the
- 26:27Speaker 2: first quarter, though, wasn't it it?
- 26:29Speaker 4: It was Fever had I think seven turner was in
- 26:30Speaker 4: the first quarter and they averaged fifteen a game, so
- 26:34Speaker 4: they were halfway there in fifteen minutes.
- 26:36Speaker 5: Gordy nerves or just what lightning wasking?
- 26:40Speaker 6: I think a bit of both. CAF.
- 26:41Speaker 4: I think Courtney Bruce did a good job early and
- 26:44Speaker 4: getting around the heads, and I think once she went
- 26:46Speaker 4: off and came back on at Gold offense and they
- 26:48Speaker 4: bought ash Irvin on. I was just I think I
- 26:51Speaker 4: mentioned it in commentary. Have you stopped to consider how
- 26:53Speaker 4: big that defensive unit is when you put ash Irvin
- 26:56Speaker 4: and Courtney Brucet.
- 26:57Speaker 3: Again, it's enormous.
- 26:58Speaker 6: It would be the biggest defense SI duo in the league.
- 27:03Speaker 6: So I think that had some presence on the fever
- 27:05Speaker 6: and their attack.
- 27:06Speaker 4: But they certainly found their way after halftime, which has
- 27:08Speaker 4: been a little bit of fevers. I think season they
- 27:11Speaker 4: are a bit not season as in, but their games
- 27:14Speaker 4: they build and through a game so and their third
- 27:17Speaker 4: quarter is their best, so they certainly put their foot down.
- 27:20Speaker 2: So question Gordy for you from a coaching perspective, and
- 27:23Speaker 2: Cath I think you've coached an under seventh team, so
- 27:25Speaker 2: feel free to chime in here if you.
- 27:27Speaker 6: Want to back at a better answer.
- 27:29Speaker 2: So, players moving team. So I think that you said
- 27:32Speaker 2: Katie and Delane Hani had played with lightning before and
- 27:35Speaker 2: Courtney Bruce has played with fever. How is a coach
- 27:37Speaker 2: do you use that type of insight when you are
- 27:42Speaker 2: bringing a player into the team. So, looking back to
- 27:44Speaker 2: the beginning of the season when we had these guys swapping, do.
- 27:47Speaker 4: You know what It's a really good question because I
- 27:49Speaker 4: think most people on the peripheral think you spend a
- 27:52Speaker 4: heck a lot of a time trying to gather insight
- 27:54Speaker 4: from elsewhere. But in any season, and Kathy, you would
- 27:57Speaker 4: know this yourself really is season's built probably eighty five
- 28:02Speaker 4: to ninety percent of the time worrying about yourself, you know.
- 28:04Speaker 6: Like it's really about what you're doing as a team.
- 28:07Speaker 4: And I can tell you there was a part in
- 28:09Speaker 4: West Coast Fevers season where they had a bit of
- 28:12Speaker 4: a stumble and I'm led to believe that there was
- 28:14Speaker 4: a period of time where potentially the coaching stuff's went
- 28:18Speaker 4: a bit too much time on the opposition and it
- 28:20Speaker 4: just it was a bit of a it was a
- 28:22Speaker 4: bit of a stumbling block for Fever. Whereas when you
- 28:24Speaker 4: bring it back and you start talking about the players
- 28:26Speaker 4: and whatnot and what the game plan is and how
- 28:29Speaker 4: they're going to execute it, that's where that's where the
- 28:32Speaker 4: heart and goal sits with a with a playing group.
- 28:35Speaker 4: But in terms of say a Courtney, Bruce Rakatie and Deahaney,
- 28:39Speaker 4: you'll grab little snippets of gold around. Oh, you've played
- 28:42Speaker 4: on a car Ra Conan before or Fortney, you've played
- 28:44Speaker 4: on a Janille Fowler before, so you know, when it
- 28:47Speaker 4: becomes a defensive unit, what do we need to do?
- 28:49Speaker 6: That's more of it. But you don't spend a lot
- 28:51Speaker 6: of time on it. You have to worry about yourself.
- 28:53Speaker 6: That's what the players want.
- 28:55Speaker 5: We spoke about this on the weekend because it is
- 28:57Speaker 5: a fine line, though, isn't it, Because you've got to
- 28:59Speaker 5: pay respect to some players and some teams, like certainly
- 29:02Speaker 5: the Thunderbirds, but that completely changed the Vixen style of
- 29:06Speaker 5: play the last time they played them, because they you know,
- 29:09Speaker 5: they typically would use the high ball going into garb
- 29:12Speaker 5: and suddenly they're not doing that because Sterling Humphrey is there.
- 29:15Speaker 5: So it does change people's game. But it's such a
- 29:17Speaker 5: fine line because you've got to do both.
- 29:19Speaker 6: You have to do both.
- 29:20Speaker 4: And this is the great beauty of the Adelaide Thunderbirds
- 29:24Speaker 4: is that they've proven so far this season that every
- 29:26Speaker 4: team that's come up against them.
- 29:28Speaker 5: Shits its pants.
- 29:29Speaker 4: Shitslves Is that a technical term in true coaching terms
- 29:35Speaker 4: in Age thirty seven of the Book of Coaching? Yeah,
- 29:38Speaker 4: players shit themselves from the so but you're right, and
- 29:41Speaker 4: Vixen's look well off from what they would normally do,
- 29:45Speaker 4: and you'd expect them to fire this weekend, no doubt.
- 29:47Speaker 6: But I'm a.
- 29:49Speaker 4: Great believer as a coach that you execute what you
- 29:52Speaker 4: know you should until someone tells you otherwise, so you know, don't.
- 29:56Speaker 6: Stop doing what you do.
- 29:58Speaker 4: And if Shamira Stirling will attend you will who were
- 30:00Speaker 4: the two biggest interceptors and deflectors in the league, happened
- 30:03Speaker 4: to find a way around your A plan, then make
- 30:05Speaker 4: sure you've got a B plan that works. So but
- 30:08Speaker 4: don't back away from the A plan because the A
- 30:10Speaker 4: plans what Wing and Nipple and so somehow you've got
- 30:13Speaker 4: to find beliefs in that.
- 30:14Speaker 5: The Vixens needed a c D and e pan.
- 30:18Speaker 7: Well.
- 30:18Speaker 2: I'm back to coaching my under elevens tonight after a
- 30:20Speaker 2: three week school holiday hiatus, so I'm planning back to
- 30:24Speaker 2: keep to go in and we focus focus on ourselves
- 30:26Speaker 2: because because we know nothing about the opposition anyways, ask.
- 30:28Speaker 6: Them what the A plan is and see what that's
- 30:30Speaker 6: what they say.
- 30:31Speaker 2: They'll just ask if I brought Lolly's. I mean, I
- 30:33Speaker 2: guess it does lead a bit to your conversation that
- 30:35Speaker 2: fret Steph Fretwell was having in the postmatch interview last
- 30:38Speaker 2: night about the how the older players have to wrap
- 30:40Speaker 2: their arms around the younger players in tough times and
- 30:43Speaker 2: share that experience and oh it was so hard to
- 30:45Speaker 2: watch her. She's clearly taking this very personally responsibility for it.
- 30:50Speaker 2: She said, my job is to shoot eighty five percent.
- 30:52Speaker 2: I didn't, and now they're like, well, what do we
- 30:55Speaker 2: do tomorrow? We thought we were preparing for a final season, So.
- 30:58Speaker 6: Do you know what? Okay, So Frett Royll knows is
- 31:00Speaker 6: so by chance she's a dribbler, she'll know. I'm her
- 31:03Speaker 6: biggest fan, have been my coach, sir at the AIS.
- 31:06Speaker 4: I've been on her journey the whole way. And I
- 31:09Speaker 4: hate that interview because no individual.
- 31:13Speaker 6: Player should ever feel the weight of the world.
- 31:15Speaker 4: Of course not and if anything, if anything, she should
- 31:18Speaker 4: be not that she would do this publicly, but she
- 31:20Speaker 4: should be turning around to her teammate in Carra Conin
- 31:23Speaker 4: and saying, you've got to shoot the ones that are simple,
- 31:26Speaker 4: don't miss the ones under the ring, don't put the
- 31:28Speaker 4: pressure on me and practice. You're two pornos, Cara Conin,
- 31:31Speaker 4: because the reality of the situation is you've got to
- 31:33Speaker 4: be You've got to have at least the ability to
- 31:36Speaker 4: think you can go from a distance. Romelda Aiken does,
- 31:39Speaker 4: Shimona Jop does, Janielle Fowl and Mr does and they're
- 31:42Speaker 4: all big beasts. Conan's a moving shoot, got to get
- 31:44Speaker 4: range in her shots. So I feel for Frett well.
- 31:47Speaker 4: I hate the fact that she's got one year left
- 31:49Speaker 4: on her contract, potentially may go out without winning another.
- 31:52Speaker 6: Premiership and feel crap about herself, just not deserve it.
- 31:55Speaker 2: I agree, I felt it was a lot, but she
- 31:57Speaker 2: did put it in context and she said she thinks
- 31:59Speaker 2: her job is one of the senior players, is to
- 32:01Speaker 2: show vulnerability now to the younger players and to you know,
- 32:05Speaker 2: she said quite often I look like a bit. I'm
- 32:07Speaker 2: misquoting her, but she was saying, I can look like
- 32:09Speaker 2: a robot, so I need to show them my vulnerability
- 32:12Speaker 2: and that's something that we will all learn from. And
- 32:14Speaker 2: I thought that was a really it was a very
- 32:16Speaker 2: insightful thing for her to do. It wasn't just her
- 32:19Speaker 2: self flagellating. It's her saying in order for us all
- 32:22Speaker 2: to learn from this, we all need to accept our responsibilities,
- 32:25Speaker 2: including me as a senior player here.
- 32:28Speaker 6: That's why I love her. She's just a champion.
- 32:30Speaker 2: Just before we move off this next week, Fever go
- 32:34Speaker 2: to Melbourne. Yes, okay, and when will Fever travel, Like,
- 32:38Speaker 2: do they go three or four days in advance, so
- 32:40Speaker 2: they go the.
- 32:40Speaker 4: Day love, they go Friday morning, I'd say Friday morning
- 32:44Speaker 4: into play.
- 32:45Speaker 6: I don't think anyone really changes the routine.
- 32:47Speaker 4: I think the only time teams have to shift their
- 32:49Speaker 4: routine will be for Grand Final, when there's commitments in
- 32:52Speaker 4: the week leading up. But I Fever all get out
- 32:54Speaker 4: Friday morning, play Saturday.
- 32:55Speaker 5: And really interesting, isn't it? Because the Thunderbirds obviously win
- 32:59Speaker 5: straight through the ground fun or they have the week off.
- 33:02Speaker 5: I don't think they need another game because they look good,
- 33:04Speaker 5: but it's the Vixen's and the Fever that look like
- 33:08Speaker 5: they need to do some fine tuning. So I think
- 33:10Speaker 5: an extra game is good for them. They're having to
- 33:13Speaker 5: do it the long way and the hard way, but
- 33:15Speaker 5: I reckon they need it.
- 33:16Speaker 2: So what if Thunderbirds do this week, what do they
- 33:18Speaker 2: do with that week off? Because that can be problematic too,
- 33:21Speaker 2: can't pinaciladas all the making.
- 33:26Speaker 5: Love admit, But well, they did it last year exactly
- 33:28Speaker 5: the same way, so they'll know what works for them
- 33:31Speaker 5: what doesn't. They won't change too much. They'll probably have
- 33:34Speaker 5: a couple of practice games.
- 33:36Speaker 4: Yeah, it's an interesting one because they'll they'll have the
- 33:40Speaker 4: experience historically cast where a lot of that two weeks
- 33:43Speaker 4: would have can been consumed in twenty twenty three by
- 33:46Speaker 4: just sheer excitement because it's the first time, so it'll
- 33:49Speaker 4: be it will definitely be a bit of a different feel.
- 33:51Speaker 4: They'll be a bit more relaxed than a bit calmer
- 33:52Speaker 4: and probably be able to enjoy the two weeks a
- 33:56Speaker 4: little differently.
- 33:58Speaker 6: But I've always desperately want to win and be in
- 34:01Speaker 6: the Grand Final.
- 34:02Speaker 4: But I can tell you it's the longest two weeks
- 34:05Speaker 4: of your life.
- 34:06Speaker 6: It is a long two weeks.
- 34:08Speaker 4: And sometimes getting back into the routine and knowing you've
- 34:10Speaker 4: got to play the.
- 34:11Speaker 6: Next week, and if you could guarantee yourself that you
- 34:13Speaker 6: were going.
- 34:14Speaker 4: To win and go into the Grand Final, I'd take
- 34:16Speaker 4: let's keep playing, because it's just that routine that you like.
- 34:19Speaker 4: And anyhow you adelaide, like I keep saying, they're in
- 34:22Speaker 4: the box seat. Very excited for them.
- 34:27Speaker 2: Apparently there's something sporty happening in Paris this week. Anyone
- 34:30Speaker 2: heard about this?
- 34:31Speaker 5: No, I have not.
- 34:32Speaker 2: I saw some rings up five rings. You would have seen,
- 34:34Speaker 2: you know what I saw this week, which is very exciting.
- 34:37Speaker 2: I saw a Sydney Olympics volunteers uniform in the wild.
- 34:42Speaker 2: What yes, twenty four years ago. Yeah, these were so
- 34:46Speaker 2: meaningful to those people, you know, so you used to
- 34:48Speaker 2: see them all the time. It's not as common anymore.
- 34:50Speaker 2: But I guess this person thinks, well, it's Olympics season,
- 34:54Speaker 2: I'm going to It's like having the Olympics tattoo a.
- 34:57Speaker 6: Big collector's items on eBay? Wouldn't they for.
- 35:01Speaker 5: The Olympic rings tattoo? I understand, But it's the you
- 35:05Speaker 5: know when you see the other sporting ones, you know,
- 35:08Speaker 5: like someone's teams won the premiership and they've decided to
- 35:11Speaker 5: go and get a Manly Seagulls big tat on their
- 35:13Speaker 5: arm or no calling.
- 35:16Speaker 4: Someone goes out after a night and yeah, wins a
- 35:18Speaker 4: premiership and then gets their surname put on their wrist.
- 35:22Speaker 2: No, no, does anyone police this Olympic rings tattooed? Like
- 35:25Speaker 2: could I just go in and say give me the
- 35:26Speaker 2: Olympic rings? Like, I know it's who police?
- 35:29Speaker 3: Is it?
- 35:30Speaker 6: You can go on yet, but then you're an idiot.
- 35:32Speaker 2: Yeah, well that has been accepted on the basis, but
- 35:36Speaker 2: I just think it's like all of the we all
- 35:38Speaker 2: just respect that and go, well, I can't get the
- 35:40Speaker 2: Olympic rings because I haven't been an Olympia, and it's
- 35:42Speaker 2: like it's one of the few things that we have
- 35:44Speaker 2: any decency about as a society anymore, going, oh, well,
- 35:47Speaker 2: let's not. Let's all I go and get the Olympic
- 35:49Speaker 2: rings tattooed on my forehead. Now, what did you represent
- 35:51Speaker 2: us in? Oh it was a long time ago.
- 35:53Speaker 6: Yeah, I think you.
- 35:54Speaker 4: Could go to Bali and get discounted rings, but you
- 35:57Speaker 4: just be concerned that they might get the colors.
- 35:59Speaker 5: Wrong all the upside down or upside down.
- 36:03Speaker 2: I love seeing when people have got their tattoos spelt
- 36:06Speaker 2: wrongly in things. It's just fantastic, isn't it. Love it,
- 36:09Speaker 2: love it anyway, so we are excited about that. I'm
- 36:11Speaker 2: particularly excited to watch the artistic swimming, which used to
- 36:14Speaker 2: be called synchronized swimming.
- 36:16Speaker 5: Oh, I love it.
- 36:17Speaker 2: It's great. It is a fabulous break dancing.
- 36:20Speaker 5: Let's bring a bit of that back.
- 36:22Speaker 2: How do they I don't understand how is that a sport?
- 36:25Speaker 2: I don't I absolutely appreciate that it is an incredible skill,
- 36:30Speaker 2: but I don't understand how you score it.
- 36:31Speaker 5: Here's my other question. Who does it like? Does anyone know?
- 36:35Speaker 5: Does anyone in my EMC happy pants? I certainly did.
- 36:39Speaker 5: That was my first paycheck ever. Just as an FYI,
- 36:42Speaker 5: what when I worked at DAILI I saved up my
- 36:45Speaker 5: first paycheck and then someone went to I don't know,
- 36:48Speaker 5: like a surf shop and bought a pair of stussy
- 36:51Speaker 5: happy pants you know the big poo catches.
- 36:53Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 36:54Speaker 5: Nice, so I could wear them to the pen and
- 36:55Speaker 5: Hills Dance.
- 36:56Speaker 2: I thought you were telling us that your first paycheck
- 36:59Speaker 2: ever was and break dancing, And oh sorry, I was
- 37:03Speaker 2: more excited than Gordy making out with Madonna and John
- 37:06Speaker 2: bon Jovi on the same night.
- 37:08Speaker 5: I need to work on my seguays.
- 37:10Speaker 2: Okay, so some of the things, some of the other
- 37:11Speaker 2: questions that we had this week in the chat, and please,
- 37:15Speaker 2: if you're not dribblers, if you're not part of our
- 37:17Speaker 2: Facebook group, jump on. It's so much fun. We have
- 37:19Speaker 2: a lot of fun. And we also have an Instagram
- 37:21Speaker 2: page which is no Underscore Dribble Underscore Podcast. Did I
- 37:24Speaker 2: get that right? You did, beautiful, So come and join us.
- 37:27Speaker 2: We did have a question this week, and we want
- 37:29Speaker 2: to be very clear on this. The question was will
- 37:31Speaker 2: no dribble continue after the end of the sun Corps
- 37:34Speaker 2: Super Netball season. Catherine Cox, could you answer this question.
- 37:37Speaker 5: Yes, it will, and we are very excited and we've
- 37:42Speaker 5: got plenty to talk about. As you guys know, we
- 37:45Speaker 5: hardly talk about netball. We talk about all the other stuff.
- 37:47Speaker 5: But if you've got any suggestions or anything you'd like
- 37:50Speaker 5: us to talk about, hit us up on our Instagram
- 37:53Speaker 5: or our Facebook page. Is probably a better place to
- 37:55Speaker 5: start a conversation and we'll see if we can tick
- 37:58Speaker 5: some off.
- 37:58Speaker 2: But we will definitely be there. Please come and join
- 38:01Speaker 2: the fund now. One of the things, and I flagged
- 38:02Speaker 2: this earlier on we talked last week about the Harrison Hoist.
- 38:05Speaker 2: You're upset because the Kiwis have been allowed to name
- 38:08Speaker 2: that keys were also allowed to name you and me,
- 38:12Speaker 2: but that's a different question altogether. So I, on the
- 38:15Speaker 2: spur of the moment, said well, we could call it
- 38:17Speaker 2: the Lizzie Lift or the Ellis Elevation. We've also had
- 38:19Speaker 2: the Broadbent Boost suggested. We have also had a dribbler.
- 38:24Speaker 2: We've had one vote for keeping at Harrison Hoist, and
- 38:27Speaker 2: I suspect that person is from New Zealand. But we
- 38:31Speaker 2: did have a note from a Cameron Stewart, who confirmed
- 38:34Speaker 2: that he was there at this event that it did
- 38:37Speaker 2: occur that Ali broad But did Ali lift Liz or
- 38:40Speaker 2: did Liz lift Ali? Can you tell me what you
- 38:42Speaker 2: think Ali lifted lists? Yeah, old showbiz has to be
- 38:47Speaker 2: lifted up, so well, then it has to be the
- 38:50Speaker 2: Broadbent boost, doesn't it. If Ali was doing the lift,
- 38:53Speaker 2: she has to be the one who gets the name.
- 38:55Speaker 6: There were what about the Chared and lift now that
- 38:57Speaker 6: she's the chair.
- 38:58Speaker 2: Oh, it's a good ski season reference.
- 39:03Speaker 5: Yeah, there was another good one there that was the
- 39:05Speaker 5: Elie for Ellis Ali oop.
- 39:09Speaker 2: I love that?
- 39:10Speaker 3: Oh God?
- 39:11Speaker 2: Could you say that in commentary?
- 39:12Speaker 5: Like?
- 39:12Speaker 6: How did you go with it?
- 39:13Speaker 2: No, it's the early.
- 39:14Speaker 4: Aliop And listen, if I have a couple before the game,
- 39:18Speaker 4: I can probably say anything, to be honest, flies off.
- 39:21Speaker 5: The tongue beautifully, doesn't it. But Cameron Stewart was married
- 39:26Speaker 5: to Narrative Spindler, who became neared to Stewart. She was
- 39:29Speaker 5: one of our teammates and she's now the assistant coach
- 39:32Speaker 5: with the Giants and the head coach of the Kelpies,
- 39:35Speaker 5: the men's national Okay, yeah, so he was one of
- 39:39Speaker 5: the boyfriends or the what do we call them?
- 39:41Speaker 2: The bags?
- 39:42Speaker 5: Bags? The bags? We did come up.
- 39:46Speaker 2: No, it's the Habs, isn't it that friends?
- 39:51Speaker 5: It was the Habs, but they all played rugby, so
- 39:54Speaker 5: they suggested we try a line out and use it defensively.
- 39:57Speaker 5: But somebody also commented on Facebook and said if they
- 40:00Speaker 5: I haven't tried it on court, doesn't count.
- 40:03Speaker 2: I think that's true. I think that the Harrison hoist
- 40:05Speaker 2: gets named that because it was the first time that
- 40:07Speaker 2: it was done in competition, wasn't it.
- 40:09Speaker 6: It was Dan and I were calling it. Dan Ryan
- 40:12Speaker 6: and I were actually calling the game when it happened.
- 40:14Speaker 4: It was in a It was an A and Z
- 40:16Speaker 4: game against It was the Mystics against the Vixens in Melbourne,
- 40:20Speaker 4: and I was calling the game as expert, commentated to
- 40:23Speaker 4: little Dan Ryan at the time was hosting, and it
- 40:26Speaker 4: happened and the crowd food like there was no tomorrow,
- 40:30Speaker 4: and then illegal. Yeah, I think it was illegal and
- 40:33Speaker 4: it wasn't illegal. And then that's when all the newspaper
- 40:35Speaker 4: stories came out, and then there was this debate between
- 40:37Speaker 4: what it should be called.
- 40:39Speaker 6: Ah, that happened twice in the game.
- 40:41Speaker 2: Maybe we can just settle that whole underarm bowling thing.
- 40:44Speaker 2: Now go all right, New Zealand, Yep, you've got a
- 40:47Speaker 2: fair cop that wasn't great and you did this all right,
- 40:50Speaker 2: where even even Stevens. Let's move on. We need to
- 40:54Speaker 2: talk about our win Beneath our Wings. So Win beneath
- 40:57Speaker 2: our Wings is where we acknowledge someone who is out
- 41:00Speaker 2: our netball community volunteering their time keeping our great game
- 41:03Speaker 2: alive at the community level every week. And I believe
- 41:06Speaker 2: that we have a nomination, and I believe another gold star.
- 41:09Speaker 2: We have a voice recording.
- 41:11Speaker 5: We do, so I'm just going to play it. I'm
- 41:13Speaker 5: not going to say anything. Let's just have a listen
- 41:15Speaker 5: to this.
- 41:15Speaker 7: This is brilliant, Hey, team love the podcast. My nomination
- 41:22Speaker 7: for Wind Beneath Our Wings is Katie from the Jaguars
- 41:25Speaker 7: Netball Club down here in Victoria. She jumps in wherever
- 41:29Speaker 7: is needed and helps out and assists everything that I
- 41:33Speaker 7: might need. CAAs just wanted to add to Scrunchy Gait
- 41:37Speaker 7: as well that Jaguar's Network club down here in Victoria
- 41:41Speaker 7: have club issued scrunchies and ninety percent of the girls
- 41:46Speaker 7: all wear them to different events.
- 41:48Speaker 2: Well that was Steph Malkai or mul Kaye. Again, I
- 41:51Speaker 2: don't quite know how to pronounce your surname correctly, Steph.
- 41:53Speaker 2: I'm sorry, but thank you very much for that nomination. Also,
- 41:56Speaker 2: thank you for piling in on Scrunchy Gate. We're loving.
- 42:00Speaker 2: I did see someone the other day saying, oh, poor caf.
- 42:02Speaker 2: It's like what poor calf I had to wear the
- 42:04Speaker 2: stupid hat.
- 42:05Speaker 5: Yep, yeah, but it suits you.
- 42:07Speaker 2: Thank you very much. It gave me some added height.
- 42:11Speaker 2: But so Katie from Jaguars, thank you very much for
- 42:13Speaker 2: all you do for the game. You are the wind
- 42:14Speaker 2: beneath our wings and we are going to be This
- 42:17Speaker 2: week is when I go to the post office, soby
- 42:18Speaker 2: getting people's addresses, we have some things coming out to you,
- 42:22Speaker 2: the scrunchy and obviously a little signed thank you card
- 42:24Speaker 2: from us. But please hit us up at the Socials
- 42:27Speaker 2: with your wind Beneath our Wings nominations. I'm pretty sure
- 42:30Speaker 2: we still don't have Act and Tasmania represented in our
- 42:35Speaker 2: national Wind Beneath our Wings, So come on, guys, get
- 42:38Speaker 2: on top of it. But we're just I think just
- 42:41Speaker 2: about out of time. I do want to say I
- 42:43Speaker 2: am doing a solo show at Sidney Fringe Festival this
- 42:45Speaker 2: year September third to seventh, five shows only, and tickets
- 42:49Speaker 2: are going on sale this week. It's called Suitable Employment.
- 42:52Speaker 2: So if you are in Sydney, I would love to
- 42:53Speaker 2: see you. It's in Erskyville, it's at the lovely time
- 42:55Speaker 2: of seven thirty and it's an only an hour long,
- 42:57Speaker 2: so it's not like a nine to thirty comedy that
- 43:00Speaker 2: you've got to be up in the middle of the night.
- 43:01Speaker 2: Who needs that. But yeah, I've also got a director,
- 43:04Speaker 2: beck Melrose, who's one of the writers from Grew and Transfer,
- 43:06Speaker 2: So it's going to be sweet again. Please third to
- 43:11Speaker 2: the seventh of September. I am there lovely, thank you,
- 43:15Speaker 2: but Gordy, thanks a great couple of weeks we've had.
- 43:19Speaker 6: Yeah, it's been some guys. I love it. I'm a dribbler.
- 43:21Speaker 6: I'll leave and I'll be continue to be a dribbler
- 43:23Speaker 6: from a distance.
- 43:24Speaker 2: And I reckon, we might be hoping you'll come back
- 43:27Speaker 2: at some stage. Two, will you come back at some
- 43:29Speaker 2: stage when we need you?
- 43:30Speaker 6: Well, I won't replace catcherin, but I will replace the chair.
- 43:34Speaker 5: I was going to say, I might be away shortly.
- 43:36Speaker 5: You might have to come back where are you going?
- 43:38Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 43:39Speaker 2: You haven't put a leaf form in Some of us
- 43:42Speaker 2: when we go on holidays still record the podcast.
- 43:45Speaker 5: I would, but it's been beautiful having you here.
- 43:48Speaker 2: Thanks, thanks for thinking of me, and enjoy the last
- 43:51Speaker 2: couple of weeks of the some caught super netble season.
- 43:53Speaker 2: And yeah, good luck to good luck to Fever and
- 43:56Speaker 2: Vixen's and may all the fans of the Fever and
- 43:59Speaker 2: the vicks and feel happy with what happens this week.
- 44:02Speaker 2: I know some are going to be disappointed, but you
- 44:04Speaker 2: can watch a game and netball and go, well, my
- 44:05Speaker 2: girls did is proud?
- 44:06Speaker 6: Do we dare?
- 44:07Speaker 5: Get a tip from you?
- 44:09Speaker 2: From me?
- 44:09Speaker 4: Yes?
- 44:11Speaker 5: Who are you going to put? The who do want?
- 44:14Speaker 2: I know it's terrible as well. Now maybe I've broken
- 44:16Speaker 2: the whodoo now seek I'm I'm going to go with Fever.
- 44:23Speaker 3: With it.
- 44:24Speaker 6: Okay, I'm with Fever too, all.
- 44:27Speaker 2: Right, dribblers, I'm Caroline Swindell, catguts Zoo Gordion. Thanks for
- 44:31Speaker 2: joining us. Se you next week. It's by
