- 0:58this morning as I'm filling in for Dave Allen. Dave, we'll be back
- 1:00on Monday. He's just off for one day and so Dave we'll be back
- 1:04on Monday. I appreciate you hanging out here with me today. We're gonna
- 1:07have a good show coming up where you we're gonna talk about our dot me
- 1:10Please pet of the Week coming up here in just a moment. Jim Strawn
- 1:12will drop by for his Friday check in on Live on the Levee as it
- 1:17fires back up for this weekend. We'll find out what's going on music wise
- 1:19tonight on the Levee and see what the weather's supposed to do. I think
- 1:23we're going to be in pretty good shape as as far as that goes.
- 1:26And we're also going to have on the Frog and we're gonna talk about the
- 1:29four h fair that's coming up at the camp and Vergil Tate this weekend.
- 1:33We're gonna talk about that a little bit. And also what he woods is
- 1:34going to join me. He's gonna have to do it by the phone.
- 1:37He was gonna come in and be my guest co host this morning, but
- 1:40he had some stuff come up around his house, and so what he's going
- 1:42to join me on the phone. There's been some movement on what he's end
- 1:47of things here in our family of stations in Charleston. The Beat formerly ninety
- 1:52eight seven The Beat is now one oh seven three the Beat, which means
- 1:56that he's about tripled his reach. I'm going to talk to Woody about that
- 1:57a little bit. And one world's going on with ninety eight seven. There's
- 2:00a little bit of a mystery there, so we might get into that just
- 2:04a little bit too. You're welcome to give us a call this morning open
- 2:07phone lines otherwise, but we have to weave in and out of the guests
- 2:09that we have, so you can give us a call this morning at three
- 2:12zero four three four five fifty fifty eight three four five fifty eight fifty eight.
- 2:15You can also send us a text message this morning, of course.
- 2:17That's three zero four nine three five five zero zero eight. Three zero four
- 2:21nine three five zero zero eight is the number that you can use to text
- 2:25us any questions or comments or anything like that that you have as well.
- 2:30But let's let's not bury the lead here a little bit. We want to
- 2:32talk about our pet of the week this week, and uh and it is
- 2:38a doggy that we're gonna be talking about. We're gonna thought to hand and
- 2:39now from the Canal Humane Society to talk about our adopt me please pet of
- 2:45the week HANDA good morning. How you doing this morning? I'm good.
- 2:46How are you? I'm doing very well. Appreciate you coming on with us
- 2:50as always to talk about the pet that we're trying to adopt this. We
- 2:53can tell us a little bit about this pooch that we have this week.
- 2:57It you started your text message with is that the dog's name? Yes?
- 3:02Okay, I thought maybe she was smiling wild for the picture. So our
- 3:07dog's name is Cheese. Tell us a little bit about cheese. Yeah.
- 3:10So she came in from another shelter and she had cargo when she initially came
- 3:16in along with twenty some other dogs, and then she we did treat her.
- 3:23She's available, she's healthy, she's great now. M but she does
- 3:29have demodex, which is the skin issue that is not contagious or anything to
- 3:32humans or other animals or anything like that. So she just needs some TLC.
- 3:38She just needs to be in a home where she can run and play
- 3:42and also get the care that you know her skin is needing right now.
- 3:46But she is one years old. She's not fixed yet, but she will
- 3:50be. And we are having Whissel till the end of the month. So
- 3:53I believe the thirties first I think of this month. So we are having
- 3:58twenty five dollars adoptionshels. So any of our adults dogs that are over six
- 4:03months are included in a special and also our captain kittens. Puppies not included
- 4:11unless they are like part of the cargo babies or something like that, So
- 4:15you'll just have to ask us about the puppies if you're interested in any of
- 4:17those. But she is a sweet girl and she does amazing with other dogs,
- 4:24and she loves dogs so much that she can be pretty rough, So
- 4:27she would need someone who like another sibling, for sure, would be great
- 4:30for her, but someone who's equally as energetic and equally wants to play and
- 4:36just an all around great dogs with the With the skin disorder that she has,
- 4:42is that something that requires continuous medical attention or anything like that, or
- 4:45is it just she looks a little different. No, um, So it's
- 4:48basically like a type of might that lives in the hair follicles and stuff.
- 4:55So it's just something that you just need to get very a little bit of
- 5:00TLC for um. It's not anything that's like life long. It just she
- 5:03can needs to get treated and get her hair to grow back, that's really
- 5:06all. And that's currently what we're doing. And her hair is already starting
- 5:10to go back, so she is already on the way to success. For
- 5:14that. Well, that's that's the best possible news. So we're really talking
- 5:16about a pretty sweet dog here who's already been taking care of her Well,
- 5:21a little bit of a rough player, you said, but that's just because
- 5:24she's so happy in dealing with other dogs, I guess. Yes, Yes,
- 5:28she does love other dogs. We chat her in our playgroups and stuff
- 5:32like that, and she absolutely has a black she'll run, soun, he'll
- 5:36play, and she does it with the other dogs, not just like on
- 5:41her own. So she definitely would thrive in a home that has another energetics
- 5:46dog and maybe even a yard where she can run around in because she definitely
- 5:50has that energy. She's still a puppy um. She hasn't really had she's
- 5:56been sick for a while, as you know, it's cargo and everything.
- 5:58She hasn't really had that chance to get out and run around and stuff like
- 6:00that other than just a few times a day. So she really could use
- 6:03someone who is even if even if you don't have another dog, even if
- 6:09you're just like a hiker or an inventor or something like that, she would
- 6:13be really good for that as well. But yes, she is a great
- 6:15all around dog and she does love other dogs and She absolutely loves people too,
- 6:19and I don't know how anyone could pass up those pretty, pretty icy
- 6:25blue eyes. That's so sweet. If folks are interested in cheese, because
- 6:30she does have and we have her picture up on social media. You can
- 6:31check it out on Twitter and on Facebook you can see the picture of cheese.
- 6:34If folks are interested in cheese, and I know you gotta be because
- 6:38this is one pretty dog. How would they come on down to take a
- 6:41look and or contact if they had any other questions? Yeah, they are
- 6:46more than welcomes to. Just come on up to the shelter is one way
- 6:48and just let us so that you want to adopt, or you can also
- 6:53just call us three or four three four two one pave seven six and just
- 6:59let us know that you're interested in cheese or that you just want to straight
- 7:01up adopt cheese. And you can do that over the stone as well.
- 7:05But she is very very sweet, and we hope that she does adopted.
- 7:11We do as well because we like having that. We like having that kind
- 7:15of mission statement here to help adopt out some of these these puppies that we
- 7:18talk about and cats sometimes that we talk about, and we hope that we
- 7:23get on the straight and narrow there. So Hannah, thank you so much
- 7:25for coming on today and telling us about Cheese. I know that folks will
- 7:29be clamoring to check her out themselves once they see just how cute this dog
- 7:32is. We rely phrase your time this morning, Hannah and telling us that
- 7:35about our adopt me please bet of the week, Thank you, thank you
- 7:40very much. We'll talk to you next week. That's Hannah from the Canal
- 7:43Humane Society talking about Cheese. You can check out Cheese down there today,
- 7:46the dog, not the not the the food product, and you can go
- 7:49down there today or give him a call if you have any questions. But
- 7:53that's that's such a sweet dog. Just in case you missed, Dave did
- 7:56send out a picture of the dog earlier. If you're used to those channels,
- 7:59I did just resend them out on the WCHS social media. So that's
- 8:03on both Facebook and on Twitter. You can see a picture of Cheese now
- 8:07if you would like to do that before we before we take a break,
- 8:09well we might as well go ahead and talk to Jim Strong. Jim's in
- 8:13studio now and Live on the Levee is firing back up this weekend after a
- 8:16little bit of a time off. How you doing this morning, Coop.
- 8:20I'm well, you're doing okay, buddy, man, I'm okay. Man.
- 8:22It's another stormy weekend. But I hope, I hope, I hope
- 8:26it holds off a little bit tonight. But yeah, I'm doing well.
- 8:28Many coming through the other side of regatta summers in full swing with the heat
- 8:31anyway, now that's for sure. You know you're doing okay. Yeah,
- 8:33I'm doing great. Great, you look great. Reset button. I took,
- 8:37you know, without the Levy last Friday. I went down south,
- 8:39got a little sun, rode my bike a little bit, swam a little
- 8:43bit, ate some fish, a little bit nice. It feels good.
- 8:46I got back last night and ready to, like I said, hit the
- 8:50reset button. Here we go. The Moses Auto Group Live on Levy is
- 8:54returning. I just want to say thanks. So we basically we've never done
- 8:58this, Coop. We took a break mid season. We have really truly
- 9:01never done that. And I remember last year the friday after the regatta.
- 9:05I woke up Friday morning and I remember feeling it. I'm like, wow,
- 9:09we have to have fun again, and it was like a fun hangover.
- 9:13But we really imagine how we felt having so much fun, But imagine
- 9:18how the city services workers felt working basically twenty four seven for five straight days.
- 9:22Right, So we gave them a break, and I think the fans
- 9:26a break too. So I think it was a good decision and it's great
- 9:31to be back again. Tonight we're going to get things rolling down at Haddad
- 9:35Riverfront Park with season nineteen. We're calling it week number six of the Moses
- 9:39Auto Group Live a Levy. We're just remind folks we're gonna kind of stop
- 9:45a little earlier this year. August eighteenth will be the final night, but
- 9:48we'll get things started tonight as we always do right at six thirty. We're
- 9:52pretty sharp to get things going. But it's gonna be kind of an interesting
- 9:56fun night. We have a group at six thirty. You have to come
- 10:00down just to see them, right, they hear them? Who calls themselves
- 10:03the Dinosaur Verbs and the Infidel Phonics. Infidel phonics. Man, that's that's
- 10:07a mouthful. That's pretty good. You noticed I didn't, I let you
- 10:09say, noticed how I was working on it all the all morning. I
- 10:13was my mirror exercises. It's the Infidel Phonics, infidel Phonics, Infidels,
- 10:18and the Dinosaur Verbs. But they're they're a West Virginia a group and I
- 10:22think there's three or four of them. They're they're from there's a group member
- 10:26from Morgantown in Fayetteville and Huntington and Charleston. So they've covered the state pretty
- 10:30good and they'll get things rolling at six thirty. They describe themselves on Facebook
- 10:35is intergalactic snack wraps and heavy beats. Can you describe yourself like that?
- 10:39All you know is it's going to be fine. It doesn't necessarily uh matter,
- 10:45It's just going to be you know, it's gonna be a fun night.
- 10:46The weather looks like it's going to cooperate. It really looks like a
- 10:50really nice night. About eighty degrees, no rain. I think there might
- 10:52be a little rain early this afternoon, but nothing really tonight. Should be
- 10:58a nice little breeze off the the Mighty Kanala River and six thirty to seven
- 11:03thirty Dinosaur Burps and then at seven forty five taken center stage on the shoon
- 11:09Bomb stage down it had at Riverfront Park. Jim Pollock and Alie Fletcher.
- 11:13I believe they're from the Huntington area. Describes himself as he likes to play
- 11:18some semi loud music and he wants to be a rock star someday, so
- 11:22he sounds fun as well, and it should be just one of those interesting
- 11:26evenings where you just come down. I think these guys play some alternative things,
- 11:31some of their own original stuff. It's just you know, fun,
- 11:33fun rocks, some crazy things. I think it's just one of those nights
- 11:37where you go, wow, look at that group. They're pretty interesting.
- 11:41They'll be entertaining. But as most people say, it, just come down.
- 11:46Yeah, be with your neighbors again, hang out, get a spirited
- 11:50beverage. Delicious food vendors. This year we've been we've been getting rave reviews
- 11:56with our food vendors down on the boulevard and they're just lined up and down
- 12:00all the way from Quart Street. There's tons of there's so many and it
- 12:03smells so good when you're over there. Delightful, yeah, no doubt delightful.
- 12:07So you know, we always say it the music is important, but
- 12:13not all that important. Yeah, I mean, yeah, the music's there.
- 12:15You got the vendors there. If you want to take a stroll down
- 12:18one of the side streets, and there's there's businesses and places down through there
- 12:20you can check out, you get some ice cream, coffee somewhere. That's
- 12:24good. It's great. It's it's it takes the whole block of downtown and
- 12:28turns it into like a little social gathering and it's pretty good. And yeah,
- 12:31if you have two and three year olds, they'll enjoy it. Isn't.
- 12:33My daughter's five. She went to the last time I went, she
- 12:35had a blast a little bit. There's some rides over there for the kids
- 12:41and they just enjoy the music too. And and of course if you know
- 12:43anywhere from five to eight or nine or ten, and you know your numbers,
- 12:48I'm always looking for tickup pullers, and so they can help me with
- 12:50the the fifty to fifty, which we do the fifty to fifty about eight
- 12:52thirty five every night, guys. And that fifty to fifty is for the
- 12:56great cause, we know, great fun for a great cause and help those
- 13:00five inner city charities every Friday evening with selling fifty fifty tickets. So thanks
- 13:05to everybody that's really supported that. Over the nineteen plus years, we've raised
- 13:09one hundred and fifteen thousand dollars Coop in the previous times, that's a lot
- 13:13of money for We help folks who may need a bite to eat in a
- 13:16place to lay their head at night. That's what we do for the fifty
- 13:20to fifty drawing. And we have five city inner city charities that help us
- 13:22with that. So yep, So we're having the charities tonight. We're having
- 13:26some food, we're having some beverages, and we're having music with Dinosaur Burps
- 13:30at six thirty and Jim Pollock and Alie Fletcher at seven forty five. They'll
- 13:33do two forty five minute sets. As always, we get done about nine
- 13:37thirty live on the Levy Charleston dot com Live on the Levy Charleston dot com
- 13:41to learn more about our partners and our sponsors and the lineup, and then
- 13:46just the tease. I'll be back next week. I think Dave will be
- 13:50here next week, right, but next week Coop we have that fleet with
- 13:54Yeah, I'm looking forward to it. I'm talking to them. Maybe we
- 13:56can. I'm not going to say anything. Maybe we can already on I'm
- 14:00already out there now. I'm thinking about maybe seeing if we can maybe get
- 14:03them in here. I'll bring them on in here. That'd be great,
- 14:05and maybe the morning or the afternoon show, wellcome in on hot line as
- 14:09well. We'll find a way to make that. We'll find a way to
- 14:11I'm working on it right now. Brother, So I'm on a record.
- 14:13I just wanted to go on. See when I'm on record, I tend
- 14:16to do I tend to do more things when I'm on record, get things
- 14:18done, yeah, because then you have yourself out there right at myself as
- 14:22out Yeah, that's the chains. Don't came up away right. Yeah.
- 14:24I appreciate you, and I appreciate the WCHS TV eight and Talk Radio fifty

- 18:22about what that move means for him and also what's happened to his old signal
- 18:26over at ninety eight seven. Inquiring minds want to know. I don't know
- 18:30if we're going to find out right away, but we'll see what's going on
- 18:32over there. So that's coming up a little bit later on, and that'll

- 18:52Three zero four three four five fifty eight fifty eight three zero four three
- 18:55four five fifty eight fifty. I have a mic that keeps on falling on
- 18:59me in here, so I'm trying to get that situated before I go to
- 19:00Jocelyn. Okay, I think we could do that. Now, let's go
- 19:03ahead and bring one from four H. I'm looking forward to talking about the
- 19:06fair that's coming up at Camp Virgil Tate next weekend. Jocelyn Crawford is joining
- 19:10us now this morning to talk a little bit about that. Joscelyn, good
- 19:11morning. How are you doing this morning? I'm good, Good morning too,
- 19:15How are you? I am doing very well. Appreciate you taking some
- 19:18time with us to come on to talk about four H and the the affair
- 19:22that's coming up at camp and Virgil Tate next weekend. I've been reading about
- 19:26this thing this morning and all the different things that's going on being I was.
- 19:30I was a Scout when I was younger. I was in uh wee
- 19:33Blows and boy Scouts and when I was younger, so I had a little
- 19:37bit of the background on some of the nature stuff. But over the years,
- 19:40and especially as I've been on the radio and i've and I've done some
- 19:41stuff with four HUM, I am amazed at everything that four H does and
- 19:47just how large of an organization it is. You have like what three and
- 19:49a half million members, five half a million volunteers or something like this.
- 19:53Four H is where it's at. Yes, absolutely, four EACH is an
- 19:59internation youth organization that focuses on youth development. So that's basically helping kids find
- 20:06things that they enjoy and then work to help them become better at those things.
- 20:11So a lot of people think about four H ASUM raising animals, right,
- 20:15So a lot of people ask me, oh, well, you're in
- 20:17Thoreace. Do y'all race pigs. I'm like, yeah, sure, we
- 20:19race pigs, but we also do robotics. We also teach kids how to
- 20:23cook, we teach kids leadership skills, and West Virginia has a huge four
- 20:29H program, like tons of kids participate and we have UM camps in almost
- 20:33every single county each summer in West Virginia. So four H has a little
- 20:37bit of everything for every single kid from age five all the way up through
- 20:41age twenty one. I'm very much considering getting the clover Bud program as the
- 20:47program that for five to seven year olds. I'm very much considering getting my
- 20:48daughter, she just turned five. I'm very much considering getting her into this.
- 20:52All of these things that you guys specialize in and teach and the continuing
- 20:56things, those are all the things that she really loves. The peaks into
- 21:00stem and the outdoor stuff, these are all things that she loves to do.
- 21:03She's hands on, she loves animals, she loves science stuff and outdoor
- 21:07stuff. I think she would fit right in. Yes, absolutely, and
- 21:11we do. In Kanawk County have four each clubs that are going to start
- 21:14meeting again in October. So there's lots of information. If you just google
- 21:18WVU Extension Kanaw County and take you to the first the first link will take
- 21:23you to our page, but there's information about four each clubs. But if
- 21:26you're not in Kanawk County, there are all of our surrounding counties and in
- 21:30every County in West Virginia, there are four EACH clubs that kids can join,
- 21:34and again that starts about October first, And there has been studies and
- 21:38people that have taken a look back at kids that have been enrolled in four
- 21:41Each and studies show that FOURACH members do better in school. They're more motivated
- 21:44to help others, they feel safe to try new things, they have a
- 21:47better self esteem, and have relationships. Of course, because it's a kid
- 21:51networking. You know, the bunch of kids that you meet at these things,
- 21:52you might end up going to school with them, or they go to
- 21:55a school across town, or you run into them, you know, playing
- 21:57sports somewhere later on. I mean, these relationships last for a long time.
- 22:00It's a great opportunity for children. Yes, absolutely. And I actually
- 22:04grew up in Knaw County for eight and then I was a teacher for eight
- 22:10years and I've actually come back to be the four H agent in Knaw County.
- 22:14So a lot of those relationships that I built with, you know,
- 22:18people my own age, not just that, but older adults who now work
- 22:22with me as volunteers. I mean, those are you know, wonderful bonds
- 22:25that I have made over a lifetime and so four eighth, you're right,
- 22:29is exactly that's kid networking and you know, finding those things that you enjoy
- 22:33and that you can become better at for sure. Jocen Crawford joining me from
- 22:37four h we're talking about the four h Fair that's coming up at Camp Virtual
- 22:40Tate next weekend starts a week from today, that's next Friday, the fair
- 22:44begins, and this is the first day is sort of setting the stage for
- 22:48the rest of the weekend. Can you kind of walk me through a little
- 22:49bit of the events it's going to happen next weekend? Sure? Absolutely,
- 22:52so. Um we this is our second year trying out the Camp Virtual Tate
- 22:59four age Fair, and so we're doing it bigger and better this year.
- 23:03So Friday is actually our day for people to drop off four each projects.
- 23:07So if you have a kid who has been enrolled in four each and they've
- 23:11been working on a four each project, then in exhibit through the year,
- 23:15they'll drop it off at Can't Virtualtate. But this is also a time for
- 23:18all of our community members. And so when we say community, we don't
- 23:22just mean people in Knaw County. It can be people in Putnam County.
- 23:25Boom County, Fayette County. But we have open competitions that people can compete
- 23:30in, and so our open competitions are based goods, so anything that you
- 23:34can bake, brownies, cakes, cookies, canned goods, soap, pickles,
- 23:40tomato, sauces, canned fruit, flowers, produce arts and crafts,
- 23:45and then we also have a quilt show that we have had preregistration for.
- 23:49So all of these things will be dropped off next Friday, July twenty first,
- 23:56between three and six pm. So that's how we get the fair kicked
- 24:00off. So that's going to kick off the big weekend. And I love
- 24:03the thing. I love that you have the open competition with arts and crafts,
- 24:06big goods, can goods, flowers, proto squilts. If you ever
- 24:08need anyone to volunteer to help taste any of these, I'm your person.
- 24:11Just let me know and I'll be glad to from anyone the hat. I
- 24:15love doing stuff like that. On Saturday, it's going to be a big
- 24:19day. So Saturday is a huge day. The fair opens at ten am.
- 24:22It's going to go to four I think, is that right? Yes,
- 24:25it's ten am to four pm, and everything is free all the activities
- 24:29and things that we're doing on Saturday is free. So we have everything from
- 24:33live music to heritage craft demonstrations. Our Elk Valley Shammarks for each club is
- 24:38going to do a corn roast. We've got a heritage or an antique tractor
- 24:44show that's going to happen. The Canaw Valley Astronomical Society is actually going to
- 24:49do a solar telescope demonstration that you can go up to the Breezy Point Observatory
- 24:55there it can't virtualtate and actually look at the sun through a special telescope.
- 24:59We've got claw with the West Virginia Mountain Valley Cloggers UM. We have someone
- 25:03who's doing a living history presentation as Mary draper Ingalls UM a couple of times
- 25:07on Saturday, so there is something for everybody. And then in addition to
- 25:12that will have UM some activities for younger kids. And you know, if
- 25:15you just want to spend time outside, you can bring your fishing pole and
- 25:19go fishing in the pond there. It can't virgiltate UM. So there will
- 25:22be something for everybody in the whole family. And I love this because i
- 25:26know what I'm gonna do with my kid next weekend. So my plans are
- 25:29already stacked. This fits right in her alley. So things wrap up on
- 25:32Sunday, Sunday, the twenty third, and uh, that's and this is
- 25:34this is what I know four h ward when I first was exposed sort of
- 25:37the four ches that the small animal shows and that's something that uh that's usually
- 25:41at a lot of the fairs and the camps and things like that, and
- 25:44the the kids really take pride in that. So that's going to happen on
- 25:48Sunday this week and again the uh the uh it opens at ten am again
- 25:52on Sunday, is that right? Well, so we're starting at noon and
- 25:56that now you're good, right exactly. Um, So we're having m a
- 26:00pet show and that is open to every kid age five to seventeen. And
- 26:06it's going to be an open pet show. Um. And so there's more
- 26:08details again on our extension website about like what kind of documentation you need to
- 26:14bring with your pet. But um, we are not judging on the quality
- 26:18of the animal. We're judging on the showmanship. So kids can even bring
- 26:22their stuffed animal. So if you've got a stuff a stuffed bear, a
- 26:25stuff cat and you want to come and tell us about your your stuffed animal,
- 26:29you can also do that as well, and we're giving out ribbons.
- 26:32Um. So that's the pet show that's going to start at noon. Registration
- 26:34starts at eleven thirty UM, and then later in the afternoon we're going to
- 26:38have our four each small animal show. So this is just for kids who
- 26:41have registered to take a four each project and we are just doing um,
- 26:45rabbits, goats, and chickens. So we don't have the big live struct
- 26:51show like you have at the State Fair, Like we don't have the lamas
- 26:53and the cattle in the big but we have our small animals with our for
- 26:56each kids, well the open show for then the four h animal So that's
- 27:00just great because it gets everyone involved and you get to see, you know
- 27:03what. My kid would probably present one of her like my little Ponies or
- 27:07something and do a great job. But I might have to ask her if
- 27:10she wants to do that, because I think she would do pretty well with
- 27:11it, absolutely absolutely. What we're looking for again is those public speaking skills
- 27:17that we work on a lot in forage. We're looking for kids who can,
- 27:21you know, present what they have an answer questions. So again,
- 27:23it's not necessarily you know, how great is your my little pony? How
- 27:27can you answer questions to the judge as about your pet that you've brought.
- 27:30I think that she would do that. This sounds like a great time.
- 27:33I know that it's a great time for AGE. Is such a wonderful,
- 27:36wholesome event for kids to get involved with and teach us so many different life
- 27:40skills that they can carry with them. So I encourage everyone to check it
- 27:42out. I'm going to take my daughter see if she likes it. If
- 27:45everything works out next weekend, then that's something I'm planning on signing or up
- 27:48for because I think it's going to fit perfectly within her extracurricular activities. Josh,
- 27:52and I appreciate you coming on today and telling us about this is This
- 27:55sounds like a great event, and I know that our folks are going into
- 27:59a go into it. Yes, absolutely, and we will have more information
- 28:03about what H is and how to get your kids signed up for for H
- 28:07at the fair. If you come, we'll have lots of flyers, lots
- 28:08of people who can answer questions. I'll search you out and say howdy,
- 28:11I'll see you there next weekend. This is going to be for the four
- 28:15h fair coming up at Camp Provigiltate next weekend, starting on Saturday. You
- 28:18can go to the Canal Extension for four h You can do a search for
- 28:22that and find out over there read about it. You can also do that
- 28:23search on Facebook and get linked to it that way. Johnthan, thanks so
- 28:27much for your time this one. I appreciate you coming on and tell us
- 28:30about this. Yes, absolutely, thank you so much. You guys have
- 28:32a wonderful day. You do the same. Thanks so much for your time.
- 28:33That's Jocelyn Crawford from for H and Man, I'd love for H and

- 32:34on the phone now. And I've been trying to keep track of all the
- 32:37stuff that's going on around the radio ranch man, and I saw a big
- 32:40video that you put out the other night and was showing the strength of your
- 32:45signal. Man. You're taking over southern and central West Virginia. Woody,
- 32:47what's how you doing this morning? I'm good, brother. How about yourself?
- 32:51I'm doing all right? Is your baby okay? By the way,
- 32:53she's laying in bed. She's been doing up all night. So I've been
- 32:55up all night. Let us shut up to Taptuli on the seeping about twelve
- 33:00thirty afternoon to get it right. There we go thinking about you, man.
- 33:06I hope everything's all right, But man, tell me what is going
- 33:07on with one oh seven three the beat Man? You got a big stick
- 33:12now out there flaming through West Virginia. Yeah, the Overlander. How many
- 33:16times I'm gonna say ninety eight point seven? I know, man, it's
- 33:21hard, it's hard to bury. How many years of saying that? How
- 33:24many years? How many years now? I think Kid Connelly and dol Shahan
- 33:29shout out to guys were starting to beat They hired me in nineteen ninety nine,
- 33:32So twenty three and four years a fan ninety eight point seven to dat.
- 33:37But at this moment ninety eight I don't know what they're playing on ninety
- 33:42eight point seven to be What does all that? I know? Man,
- 33:45I didn't heard two part. I hadn't heard Motley Crewe, I didn't heard
- 33:50it goes from wrap to like twenties barbershop music. I don't know what in
- 33:53the world's going on over there. There seems to be a theme, but
- 33:57I can't quite pick up on it yet. Man, I'm still trying to
- 34:00learn it. Man, it's it's still weird to me. But shout out
- 34:02to them guys over at uh ninety eight point seven to be whatever I mean,
- 34:07Well, ninety eight point seven, whatever you're doing, keep doing it.
- 34:09We're gone. I figured maybe to check in next week, like Monday
- 34:13morning or something like that. Maybe things will change by it than I don't
- 34:15know. You might find something out over there. But tell me, tell
- 34:17me about the play. There's something I know. There's some things you can't
- 34:21overly talk about. But tell me how excited you are to be one this
- 34:23bigger, bigger signal for one of seven three. I know this is something.
- 34:27I mean. The beat has been kind of the little engine that could,
- 34:30as far as a signal goes here in the Canall Valley for a long
- 34:34time, always kind of pulling more than your weight. Well now you got
- 34:38now you got the the artillery to go with the reputation. Well, people
- 34:43acting like what do this really mean? I'm like, yo, Because the
- 34:46ninety eight point seventh signals about six hundred ways there's one or seven three signal
- 34:52is about fifty thousand. Watch, so I put it in if you got
- 34:54six hundred dollars or you got fifty thousand dollars, if you got yeah,
- 34:59I'm gonna take the figure thousand dollars. What in my eyes, Cooper,
- 35:01Oh, it just means we can help more people. We reach more people
- 35:05who're going to help more people. Would I've been getting calls and texts like
- 35:07Boone County, Logan, some parts of asshlin Kentucky, some parts of Ohio,
- 35:15Putnam County was strong o'kill Beckley. We reached a lot of counties and
- 35:20that means we can just get out and do what the Beat does. Nothing's
- 35:22going to really change in our end of what we do in the community.
- 35:27We're just gonna be out and to give us more reach to communities to help
- 35:30help help our community. That's what we're all about, man. And honestly,
- 35:34that's what I really love about this thing is that if anybody knows what
- 35:37he's done over the Beat for forever and ever, and he's he's always been
- 35:38kind of a partner on this show where we talk to what he on all
- 35:42the things he's doing, because he's so community focused everything that that the Beat
- 35:45does over there. It's all about lifting up the community, whether it's younger
- 35:47folks or the adult listeners, whoever it is, it's all about lifting up
- 35:51the community. And you've always well serviced your community, but now your community
- 35:54is bigger, and that could only be a good thing, not only for
- 35:57the Beat, but also for these communities, the outreaches that are gonna benefit
- 36:00not only for listening to you know, great music and programming and stuff,
- 36:04but exactly what it means to have the Beat is part of your community,
- 36:07because that does mean a lot, no doubt. Brother, Like we say,
- 36:09we're not just a radio stage, and we are family. And I
- 36:12really believe that every listener that tuned in, you are part of our family.
- 36:16And we were just out to do what we're supposed to do. Man,
- 36:20it's not about me, it's not about you, it's about us.
- 36:22And now we can reach more of us. We can really go out and
- 36:27do what we're supposed to do, do God's work and get in these streets
- 36:30and help people. And and like you said, you're gonna get some good
- 36:34music. You're gonna get some some people that's coming back. You're gonna hear
- 36:37some familiar voices over on one on seventy three, you're gonna hear some new
- 36:39voices and hopefully I still got a job on Monday. I hopefully you will
- 36:44hear me on Monday from three to seven, and we just gonna have fun.
- 36:47Man. It's all about fun. It's all about family, and it's
- 36:51all about uplifting. That's where we're about, man. Now on one on
- 36:53seventy three, the new signal is called the new one on seven three to
- 36:57beat. We just really outside, mister coup for what they say, we
- 37:00outside doing a lot from the streets, right we outside, man, and
- 37:07I'm excited. It was a long time coming, a long time coming.
- 37:09It was a lot of planning, a lot of strategy going uh, the
- 37:14flipping a radio station, a lot of hard work because people don't understand,
- 37:17like everything that that was on ninety eight seven has to go away and you
- 37:22have to. You have to rebuild one on seven three with your voice,
- 37:27your imaging commercials uh. I probably, Donna, I'm probably gonna say ninety
- 37:32eight point seven one hundred times within the next week, but eventually it's gonna
- 37:37be one on seven three to beat, And I'm excited to find out what's
- 37:40going on ninety eight point seven. It's kind of like your kid going to
- 37:45college and you get to see what's gonna happen with ninety eight point seven.
- 37:47Yeah, yeah, that is the truth, because there's there is definitely something
- 37:51crazy going on over there. Just briefly before I cut your loose with I
- 37:53had a Thursday night, you have the Triple D. Last night we had
- 37:58some weather that kind of interrupted that thing. But for the folks that listen
- 38:00to five eighty love that maybe isn't sure what you're doing out there. Triple
- 38:04D's a relatively new thing that the beats doing. What is it they usually
- 38:06do on Thursday nights? Oh, we all at the prestigious Red Carpet Lounge
- 38:10that's on Charleston's Bastin And it's just and if you've never been to the Rand
- 38:14Carpet Lounge, the Red Carpet Lounge is like a melting pot of Charleston.
- 38:17You've got politicians, you've got the regular people. You've got rich people,
- 38:22you have poor people who had white people, you have black people, you
- 38:25got little people who got small people. But we call the things on Triple
- 38:30D and not what you're thinking like Triple D is drinking, dancing and dinner.
- 38:35Paum Greco of the Rand Carpet. He switches to dinner up every Thursday.
- 38:38Last night was it was crab cakes. They had crab cakes. And
- 38:43the dinners sell out, like I'm talking about past So if you're trying to
- 38:45get to dinner, you want to call the Rand Carpet early and get into
- 38:49that. But next week we had to cancel yesterday due to the storm.
- 38:52So next next week we're gonna go Thursday and Fridays to be Triple D Thursdays
- 38:57and Triple D Friday. So it's we two days at the Red Carpet next
- 39:01week. My brother, I've heard so much about it. It's a relatively
- 39:04new thing, but it's already taken off, and now even more people are
- 39:07going to hear about it because you're on such a larger signal. On one
- 39:09of seven three one of seven three. The beat is where you can find
- 39:12what he was in the beat, d D in the morning and stay tuned.
- 39:15We're from one to understand of the little bit the wood, he tells
- 39:17me every once in a while. From one understand, maybe there's some some
- 39:21other big news coming up. One of seven three to beat within the next
- 39:24you know, several weeks or so, so you might want to stay tuned
- 39:28to that station for some some more big news. It's gonna it's gonna be
- 39:30fun. People. It's trying to buckle up the seat belt and enjoy the
- 39:35ride because we outside with it, hearing me cool and cool before you give
- 39:38me off. Yeah, when we talk about our sixteen annual backpack Giveaway that's
- 39:42coming up all the seventeen Thursday, I was just gonna ask you if there's
- 39:46anything else you wanted to talk about. So, yeah, let's talk about
- 39:49the backpack because I know we talk about servicing the community. This is one
- 39:52of the things you do, no doubt. Man, it's sixteen years strong
- 39:55that we we what sixteen years ago we learned that some teen struggle with school
- 40:00supplies. And we're not about having handouts. We're about having hand uffs.

- 45:25welcome to do that. Jim Stron told us about Live on the Levy.
- 45:29We had Joscelyn Crawford here for the four h fair that's coming up next weekend,
- 45:32and what he woulds checked in to tell us about what's going on with
- 45:36one oh seven three the beat. He's moved to a big signal now and
- 45:38there's some craziness going on over at the ninety eight seven the former beat.
- 45:44That's that's going through something. You gotta check it out. Maybe you can
- 45:45pick up on the theme. There's a theme going on over there. I
- 45:47think I can't quite put my finger on. It might give you a hint
- 45:51on what's what might be in store in the near future over on that station.
- 45:53So that's ninety eighty seven the Beat to where there's a big question mark
- 45:58right now wrapping up the show here the morning a couple of things I wanted
- 46:00to tell you about before we before we wrap it up, and I'm going
- 46:04to subject our producer Jeff to some of the questions that I had for Woody
- 46:07that you know how Dave likes to do, like the ten questions, add
- 46:09a few questions that I that I set aside to ask Woody, but he
- 46:14wasn't able to make it in. I didn't want to do it over the
- 46:15phone, so I'm going to put Jeff to the test instead. We'll do
- 46:17that here in just a few minutes. But let me tell you about what's
- 46:20coming up this weekend on five ad W CHS. If you're like me,
- 46:22you've been waiting for the baseball season to get back into the swing of things.
- 46:25Reds baseball debuts or debuts, but it comes back tonight. It will
- 46:30be seven o'clock right here on five ad WCHFS after the sports line Tomorrow night
- 46:34at six forty and then at one ten one Sunday afternoon, the Reds are
- 46:37taking on the Brewers again three straight games. The Reds are up one in
- 46:40their division right now after the All Star break. That means that the result
- 46:45of this division series to kick off the second half of the season. The
- 46:49Reds could come out of it up before or they could come out of a
- 46:52worst case scenario down by two. So we want to see what happens with
- 46:54the Cincinnati Reds. Of course, with Elie Day, La Cruz and Matt
- 46:58McLean and an abbott on, all these guys that are leading the charge of
- 47:01the new Reds, Joey Vado coming back somewhat resurgent. It's just a fun
- 47:06time to be a Reds fan. So I encourage you to check into that.
- 47:08Anytime you want to check out the schedule, you can do that WCHS
- 47:10Network dot com slash sports for other baseball coming up this weekend. Yes,
- 47:15we have that too over on our sister station, ESPN one of six point
- 47:19seven and fourteen ninety. On Saturday, we'll have the Dodgers and the Mets.
- 47:22It's at six thirty, and then on Sunday we will have Sunday Night
- 47:24Baseball, which is the Astros at the Angels and that will be at six
- 47:30o'clock. I do have some questions here for you, Jeff. I was
- 47:32going to ask these to Woody, but since I really didn't want to make
- 47:36him answer these while he was on the phone and taking care of his kids.
- 47:38So are you ready for a couple of questions from the from the WCHS
- 47:44firing hole. Oh? Absolutely all right. So I'm going to just pick
- 47:46through some of these that I found here and see what we can come up
- 47:49with. So what would you do if you found a dead body in a
- 47:52hotel room? Um? Okay, there's there's a little bit of context that
- 47:57goes that, is that I just walk into the hotel. Yes, yeah,
- 48:00so like you're checking in, like they give you your keys and you
- 48:02walk in, you go to the bathroom, and oh, there's a dead
- 48:05body here. I believe I would turn around, walk out before I put
- 48:08my fingerprints on anything and report it. Would you check for a pulse?
- 48:12Um? Probably not, I'm not. I guess I did say dead body,
- 48:17so it's not a body, so you know, so I guess maybe
- 48:21you know it's dead by looking at If I know, if I look and
- 48:22I see that there's like some faint breathing, then maybe I would I would
- 48:25do something. But if yeah, if they're just straight up dead, I'm
- 48:29going the other direction. So when you go to a restaurant, if you
- 48:31are you somebody that looks at like how the kitchen works and stuff like that.
- 48:35You're seeing if people are wearing hairnets or they're serving with gloves one and
- 48:37stuff along those lines. Sometimes sometimes so if someone doesn't have hair, if
- 48:43they're hair and paired bald, I mean, do they need to wear a
- 48:46hair and it um on? For me? No, because there they don't
- 48:53have any hair. But I know that there is some people that have certain
- 48:58conditions like danger and stuff, so maybe at that point it would be good
- 49:01to have a hat on. I mean, I've noticed that in some kitchens.
- 49:07Yeah, I think that's probably true. I'm not a like, I
- 49:10don't know if I would even notice, to be honest with you, but
- 49:13it is. It is a good question. Maybe you don't wear like the
- 49:15nets so much as like a skull cap if you have some sort of an
- 49:17issue or maybe a lot of sweat, because you know, sometimes you've got
- 49:20people that sweat a lot doing that. Absolutely, so that would be something
- 49:23that that I would want to maybe look into. Um, this is a
- 49:27good one, and I'll answer this one too after you do. What's the
- 49:29most embarrassing thing you've ever worn? Um? That's oh, that's that's a
- 49:36I gotta okay, I'll go with something recent. So a friend of mine
- 49:40has been getting me in the golf, and I've noticed that, you know,
- 49:44you can kind of you within reason, you gotta wear something like something
- 49:49nice. I was actually golfing the other day with a sun hat on a
- 49:52green sun hat, had on a Hawaiian shirt, um, some slacks,
- 49:57and I had on vans, so kind of golf. But that, like,
- 50:01that's probably the goofiest thing I could think of. I did go to
- 50:05a party back in my high school days as a pint of beer, but
- 50:08I don't think that's as embarrassing. That's pretty good though. I actually like
- 50:13that. When my most embarrassing would have to be when I was twelve eleven,
- 50:17twelve years old and a big, big fan of the old Miami Vice,
- 50:22you know, a big fan of Miami Vice. Thought that I was
- 50:27eleven years old and kind of a little a little on the chunky fat side
- 50:31of things, thought that I could wear the old the bright blue shirt with
- 50:37the white the white linen pants and the white over jacket to school and be
- 50:42cool man. That was not a good move because all that it led to
- 50:46was me being made fun of constantly. You know what, I actually I
- 50:52have something sort of similar to that. It's actually was telling us to my
- 50:55girlfriend the other night, and I went to Okay, so I was like
- 51:00seven, eight years old something like that. I went to a barber shop
- 51:04and I was really big in the g I Joe's and I showed the guy
- 51:07the g I Joe actually figure us how I want my hair to look like
- 51:08this? And he had a buzz cut and I thought he was gonna give
- 51:12me like a flat top. Oh, I was so mad. I was
- 51:15so mad. Oh he cut it all off. I was so mad.
- 51:19That's funny stuff, man. I appreciate your time on that, Jeff.
- 51:22That that's gonna do it for the show though. We're gonna got thirty seconds
- 51:23left, so that's gonna wrap it us for us today. Coming up next
- 51:25with ABC News Local News and then talk Line with a Dave Wilson. They'll
- 51:30still be your steam release though at the eleven thirty, so you want to
- 51:32tune in for that. I'll be back this afternoon at three o'clock hot Line
- 51:35with Dave Weekly. Jeff, thanks for your time this morning and all of
- 51:37our guests that we've had. Have a great day everyone. You're listening to
