- 0:08the Simply Christ podcast hosted by Leon Martin, along with Aaron
- 0:12Keaton, Melvin Martin, Andrew Schrock and Dan Blatz.
- 0:16Let's get right to it. All righty, I guess we're ready
- 0:20for another Monday night Bible study.
- 0:22So welcome fellow lovers of Christ and we are going to look
- 0:29at Colossians chapter 3 and excited to see what what it has
- 0:35to offer here for us. Just wanted to mention before we
- 0:40get started for anybody that's listening on any of the
- 0:43platforms. So like a share, you know,
- 0:45comment sharing content from this would be we would love to
- 0:49see that helps everybody see some of the truths that are
- 0:52written in the Bible here. And also from our family camp
- 0:58meetings that we had couple weeks ago.
- 1:01All the recordings of that are are on our website there or on
- 1:04our YouTube channel as well. If you would, if you're
- 1:07interested in listening to some really good preaching by Aaron
- 1:11Keaton and that Ben Sergeant from Virginia.
- 1:14There were the weekend. There's six full sermons on
- 1:16there that are really good. But so anyway before.
- 1:19We got any? Going any further, I'll ask Dan
- 1:22to kick us off with the word of prayer here.
- 1:25All right, Father, we come to you this evening, bowing before
- 1:29you in the name of Jesus, knowing that it's only in his
- 1:31name that we can come, but in his name we can come boldly.
- 1:35And so we ask this evening, God, that you would help us help our
- 1:39minds and hearts to understand and not only to just comprehend
- 1:43with our minds, but to allow it to sink deep in our hearts and
- 1:46to cause us to live according to the truth of the gospel that we
- 1:50would, as he has already told us in this book to as we received
- 1:55him. So walk in him of this book and
- 1:59the words that we read and study tonight to transform our
- 2:01thinking so that we can better honor you in our day-to-day and
- 2:05bring more souls under your Kingdom.
- 2:07We prayed in Jesus name, Amen. Amen.
- 2:10Thank you. Yeah.
- 2:12So that is exactly what we're going to do is learn how to
- 2:17walk. How was it with Ben Sargent?
- 2:20I've never heard him speak. Oh yeah, yeah, he's a a kind old
- 2:25soul. Very.
- 2:28He's something he got converted maybe 40 or so years ago, I
- 2:32think as a very sinful. He was a Army person, I think or
- 2:39Navy or I can't remember for sure.
- 2:42And God delivered him from all kinds of riff raff and he just
- 2:45loves Jesus. And so, yeah, really enjoyed his
- 2:50teaching. He lives in Virginia and he is
- 2:53very, very involved with that. Joshua Steele, I don't know if
- 2:58you've heard him, but he does that.
- 3:00He's over in Ukraine, him and his family.
- 3:03And they have. Man, I wish I could, I should
- 3:05maybe find a link and see if I get posted on here.
- 3:08It's it's really a blessing to hear it.
- 3:10Like he's like, they'll hear bombs and stuff and then and you
- 3:15know, in this war that's going on over there.
- 3:16But anyway, so he has they, they, they have some kind of a
- 3:21ministry and I don't even know what it all is really.
- 3:24Maybe one of you guys knows more, but I I know they they
- 3:27teach and they have and a program or or something they
- 3:32use. I interviewed him on my podcast,
- 3:36Joshua Steele. Oh.
- 3:37Sure. And that was a couple years ago
- 3:40when the war in Ukraine was just kind of getting started.
- 3:42So we talked a bit about his ministry and how he got started
- 3:44there as a single man that eventually came back and found
- 3:47his wife and moved back there and has been there ever since.
- 3:50And then then we talked about the war a little bit too,
- 3:54because there's so much confusion over what's going on
- 3:57there, right? What, what is his curriculum or
- 4:00whatever that he has a curriculum or something that
- 4:02they hand out, don't they? Yeah, it's like a homeschool
- 4:05curriculum, just kind of studying the Bible.
- 4:08I've never actually looked into it, and so I don't know.
- 4:10I've heard it's very thorough and good from the Pearls, but I
- 4:13don't know what it's really all about.
- 4:16Yeah. Do you know, Andrew, what the
- 4:18Joshua Steele's thing? I think it's, yeah.
- 4:21I think it's some kind of a Bible study program, but I can't
- 4:23even think what it's called a little bit.
- 4:25Yeah, Hannah, do you remember what that's called the Joshua
- 4:27Steele, though? Is it Bible first?
- 4:29Bible First sounds right. Yep, Yep.
- 4:33I think that is what it is. But anyway, so, yeah, he's, he's
- 4:36very involved. He's been over there several
- 4:38times with Joshua. Ben has.
- 4:40And so, yeah, really, really enjoyed his teaching.
- 4:43And, and we had a just a kind of a impromptu brothers meeting
- 4:48where a bunch of us guys kind of sat together, a couple guys had
- 4:50questions and really, really fun to listen to an older
- 4:54gentleman's council regarding some of this stuff that comes
- 4:58up. It's just, it's, I mean, I know
- 5:00why, why, you know, the Bible you read and yet talks about
- 5:05elders among us and stuff and that, you know, that we should
- 5:08honor them. And I think I know why they they
- 5:10have an element that us younger, well, 44 years old, but us
- 5:15younger people just don't have. I don't know what in the wisdom
- 5:19or whether you know. Yeah.
- 5:20So. Yeah.
- 5:21I think often, I think often older people have went through
- 5:25things that have kind of levelled themselves out a little
- 5:28better and maybe matured a little more.
- 5:31For some of us get pretty cocky about an opinion that we have
- 5:36all of a sudden, or get be a little radical and insensitive
- 5:41and all of a sudden we get kind of humbled.
- 5:44Yeah. Yeah, a really good example
- 5:46actually of that was one of the guys was talking about how that
- 5:50that verse about that says that it by by his stripes we were
- 5:53healed. We are healed and Ben was like,
- 5:56well, that's not talking about physical healing, that's talking
- 5:59about Jesus coming, you know, and taking our stripes for the
- 6:02sin that we have and and very carefully walk through it.
- 6:06But if it would have been me, then, you know, I would have
- 6:08said, and that's the way it is, you know, and he he dialogue
- 6:12with the guy and never shot him down at all.
- 6:15Just told him the truth and and engaged in conversation in such
- 6:19a such a gentleman better better appreciated.
- 6:23The thing is is you can't. You can't have insight or wisdom
- 6:29in something until you've actually been through it and
- 6:32experience it, right? I mean, and that an older person
- 6:36like that has been through a lot, right?
- 6:39That so that's where they get their ways and.
- 6:41Understanding and they they learn the value of actually
- 6:44hearing the other person. That's where I often struggle
- 6:46myself is I know what I think and it's hard for me to hear the
- 6:51other argument even, or consider it the other guys you know,
- 6:54because I know he's wrong already.
- 6:57It was. Well, the more you go through
- 6:59things, the more people you deal with, right?
- 7:02And so you learn that too. Well, the older and the smarter
- 7:06you get, the quicker you know when someone is wrong so it's we
- 7:09don't waste our time. See.
- 7:15Sounds like we get humbler along the way too.
- 7:20Remind me to never go to Andrew Schrock for character give.
- 7:28Him some. Time.
- 7:30Yeah, I was kidding. Just in case.
- 7:36No, that's all good. All right, well, we'll get into
- 7:40the Word here. So chapter 3 of Colossians verse
- 7:45one. Yeah.
- 7:46Good evening, Cameron. Thanks for being on here.
- 7:49It says if he then be risen with Christ, seek those things which
- 7:53are above where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.
- 7:57That's the verse that we're going to kick off.
- 7:59But we just got done talking about last week.
- 8:02And like I said, you'd go find previous episodes if you didn't
- 8:04hear that hear this what we went through where it says verse 21.
- 8:09Let's see where should I back up to let's I'm going to just read
- 8:13verse 20 on through real quick from chapter 2 what we went
- 8:17through last week a little bit to get a running start wherefore
- 8:20he's making the argument wherefore if you be dead with
- 8:22Christ from the rudiments of the world.
- 8:24Why, as though living world are you subject to ordinances, touch
- 8:28not taste, not handle, that which all are to perish with the
- 8:32using after the commandments and the doctrines of men, which
- 8:35things have indeed a show of wisdom in will, worship and
- 8:39humility and neglecting of the body, not in any honor to the
- 8:43satisfying of the flesh. So we were just instructed that,
- 8:47you know, doing all these right things, but for the wrong
- 8:50reasons is not what we need to do.
- 8:54We can do everything right, everything looks right, but if
- 8:57we are just doing them because we think that's the right way to
- 9:01do it, then that's an issue. But anyway, but so he says, if
- 9:05you then be risen with Christ, seek these things which are
- 9:08above where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.
- 9:11So he's making the assumption that we are risen with Christ.
- 9:16An interesting position that he talk talks about here.
- 9:20Dan. Go ahead, Dad.
- 9:26Chapter chapters 2 and three describe the difference between
- 9:30someone that has quote UN quote, self-control through philosophy
- 9:35or religion and someone who is getting their victory through
- 9:38the gospel. And he's made our case very
- 9:41clear that we have the victory in Christ.
- 9:43That's where our source of victory and identity and purpose
- 9:47and position comes from is through his work for us.
- 9:51Chapter 1 made that abundantly clear.
- 9:54And he he doesn't want us to move on from that simplicity.
- 9:57Again, I think we've we've talked that again and again
- 10:00around in circles about that same topic and it never gets
- 10:02old. But he doesn't stop there.
- 10:04He continues on in that same vein here so many times.
- 10:08And I did this early on in my Christian life when I wanted to
- 10:12go come up with a devotional for somebody, I would turn to
- 10:15Colossians chapter 3 verse one. I remember the very first time I
- 10:18ever shared a devotional. I was only a Christian for a few
- 10:21months, perhaps, maybe a year. I doubt it.
- 10:24And my thought was, I'm going to encourage people to change their
- 10:27thinking. Set your mind on things above.
- 10:29So think about God, think about heaven, think about eternity,
- 10:33think about all the beautiful things that are to come.
- 10:36And don't think about cars and trucks and planes and and trips
- 10:40and, you know, stop thinking about earthly things and start
- 10:43thinking about heavenly things. But you do that if you start in
- 10:47chapter 3, you just RIP the whole thing right out of its
- 10:50meaning in context. And the the passage has been
- 10:53abundantly clear. The problem that the Colossians
- 10:56had was not that they were too worldly thinking in Mennonite
- 11:00terms. They weren't thinking too much
- 11:03about sports and technology like they were thinking about how to
- 11:07control their flesh with external forces.
- 11:11Touch, not taste, not handle, not.
- 11:12Their affections were set on earthly principles, earthly
- 11:17fundamentals, the earthly things that they could do to try to
- 11:22bring some kind of beauty and wisdom to their life.
- 11:25That's where their affection was.
- 11:27But he says don't set your affection on those things that
- 11:31are on the earth, like touch, not taste, not handle, not like
- 11:34religious practices, like trying diligently to be, you know, a
- 11:38very principled person. Rather set your affection on
- 11:41things above because that's where Christ is seated.
- 11:44That's where Christ is already risen.
- 11:46Seek those things which are above because we are with Christ
- 11:51in God. He's going to tell us set your
- 11:54affection. And he doesn't say affections
- 11:57where, you know, I've got an affection for pizza and I've got
- 11:59an affection for baseball and I've got like take all those
- 12:02affections and, you know, stop thinking about those things that
- 12:05you enjoy and try to put your affection somewhere else.
- 12:09He's actually discouraging religion and philosophy and man
- 12:13made traditions because that's where the Colossians affection
- 12:17had been turning and they were losing their vision of Christ
- 12:21and his work and setting their affection on earthly things like
- 12:25going to church at a certain time, wearing certain types of
- 12:28clothes, doing certain external practices, keeping feast days,
- 12:32holy days, Sabbath days, whatever it might be.
- 12:35Those were the things that they were now setting their affection
- 12:37of on. And he says if you're risen with
- 12:40Christ, why as though living in the world are you subject to
- 12:43ordinances? If he then be risen with Christ,
- 12:46seek those things which are above where Christ sitteth at
- 12:49the right hand of God. Set your affection on things
- 12:51above, not on things on the earth.
- 12:53So again, one more time, he's not trying to get us to stop
- 12:57being worldly in the Mennonite or Amish perspective.
- 13:01He's trying to get us to stop being Amish and Mennonite and
- 13:05start trusting in Christ. Yeah, Very well done, Melvin.
- 13:11Yeah, I was really been thinking about the last three verses that
- 13:15we went through last week, this past week.
- 13:18And I don't know, I just kind of he kind of resonated with me
- 13:24where just what you were saying, Dan, where he says there in
- 13:30verse 20 that we are dead with Christ from the rudiments of the
- 13:34world. So rudiments of the world.
- 13:36And ordinances and then commandments and doctrines of
- 13:41men. So all this is, is earthly
- 13:44things. And then he says in verse 23,
- 13:49But all these things are a show or a appearance of wisdom, and
- 13:55in will worship and humility and neglecting of the body, like
- 13:58trying to keep your refrain yourself from bodily things like
- 14:06whatever it may be, it could be various things.
- 14:09But then he says, and not in any honor to the satisfying of the
- 14:13flesh, those things are no value against fleshly indulgence.
- 14:18In other words, those things, all those external things do not
- 14:24keep you from lust and from having power.
- 14:29None of those things give you power over your flesh because
- 14:32he, he was saying, Oh, you are dead in with Christ, right?
- 14:37That's where you get your power, not these religious things that
- 14:41you're doing on the outside or trying to do external things.
- 14:44And that's where I was at before I got saved.
- 14:49I had this. The biggest thing that bothered
- 14:51me before I got saved was that I had no power over my flesh.
- 14:57I had no power over sin. I had zero power over sin.
- 15:02And that really kind of bothered me, although I would not have
- 15:06admitted it probably, but I was doing all those things.
- 15:09I was I was externally doing all those things that will worship,
- 15:15neglecting of the body and all those things.
- 15:18And it didn't work. It does not work.
- 15:22It's only in Christ and being dead in Christ that we have
- 15:27power over sin and over flesh and which talks about in Mormons
- 15:31a lot. But but yeah, it's just
- 15:33interesting that he goes on there and and in that thinking
- 15:37in that context, like you pointed out, then we'd go into
- 15:41three one, he says if you be then risen with Christ, seek
- 15:46those things which are above tonight's pointing out not only
- 15:50are we dead in Christ, but we are also risen with Christ.
- 15:54So in other words, we're a lie. We're seated with Christ in
- 15:57heavenly places the Bible says and and then he says where where
- 16:03Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.
- 16:05That is so good truth right there where Christ sitteth on
- 16:10the right hand of God in Ephesians one I've found this 2
- 16:14verses. I'm just going to read these.
- 16:15It's so profound. It says and what is the
- 16:18exceeding greatness of His power to us?
- 16:21Word who believe according to the working of His mighty power.
- 16:26And people are always wanting more power right there, power
- 16:31over their flesh. Power.
- 16:33They're always looking for power, right?
- 16:35But it says, which He wrought in Christ when He raised him from
- 16:40the dead and set Him on His own right hand in heavenly places.
- 16:45So that is where we get our power over sin and over flesh,
- 16:50over indulgence, over temptation is in Christ, who is seated on
- 16:56the right hand of God in heaven and faces, and we're seated
- 16:59there with him actually right now.
- 17:03Yeah, who? They're good, Andrew.
- 17:06And it's good stuff. They covered it all.
- 17:09What am I supposed to say now? That's why I don't like being
- 17:12last. No, it's good.
- 17:15I can always go a little bit different angle.
- 17:17One thing that I was actually at the homeless shelter last
- 17:20Thursday night and I was so fired up about Colossians.
- 17:24I actually went started kind of in chapter 1 there, if we
- 17:27remember it said that the thing that Paul was praying for them
- 17:33non-stop was that they would grow in spiritual wisdom and
- 17:36spiritual understanding. So they don't fall for
- 17:38philosophy and deceit and all that stuff.
- 17:42And he said in the when you have that spiritual wisdom and
- 17:45understanding, then you will be strengthened with all might, not
- 17:51some might, all might. And now he's revealed to us
- 17:56where that all might comes from, believing that we're dead from
- 18:00the root of the world, believing that by Jesus Christ dying and
- 18:04rising again make me dead to the flesh.
- 18:08And if we believe that, if we have that spiritual wisdom and
- 18:10understanding, it's where all the might is at.
- 18:13It's where all the power is at. It's where all the strength is
- 18:17at, but the law was the strength of strength and sin, the cross
- 18:26overpowered it and now we are now we are stronger than sin
- 18:31through Christ Jesus, sin is defeated.
- 18:36And what I told them over there, the homeless shelter is like the
- 18:41Christian world is pretty much nowadays trying to get God to do
- 18:47a work in our heart, to do a work in our lives.
- 18:51Let's get God to move. If we could just get a good old
- 18:54moving of the Holy Ghost again, we would have some life changing
- 18:58power. And, and, and you know, big
- 19:01moment, you know, revival. And I just told him that I think
- 19:06what's lacking is we've, we're so focused on getting God to
- 19:09move now that we don't see that he moved and we don't understand
- 19:13of how he moved when he died. When he died is when he moved.
- 19:19God moved to change the human flesh down to our affections and
- 19:24emotions to where we can set them or whatever direction that
- 19:28we choose is we benefit. And he's telling us right now to
- 19:32set our affections on things above based on the fact that
- 19:36Jesus Christ did a work 2000 years ago that has changed us
- 19:40and given us a power and a strength that overcomes the
- 19:44things of this world, sin and flesh.
- 19:46And he's going to tell us a whole list of sins that we're
- 19:50free from based on setting our affections on things above in
- 19:54the cross. So yeah, stop getting asking God
- 19:57to move and start believing on the moving that he already did.
- 20:01Yeah, he doesn't need to be moved.
- 20:03We do. We need to be moved, but he's
- 20:06already where he already moved. But we're I wish people would
- 20:11understand that believing the gospel, believing this truth
- 20:14will do a work in your life right now.
- 20:18Stop waiting on God to move in your life.
- 20:21Look at what he did and believe it and it will change your life.
- 20:25And you can say God moved and changed you and now you're free
- 20:29from slave. However you want to put it.
- 20:31I know that the work has already been done and the moment you
- 20:34believe it, your life will be changed.
- 20:37You. Don't have to wait on God
- 20:39because God already died. You know, before he died, people
- 20:42were waiting for him to come and die.
- 20:45Now we're, we already know he died and we can already tap into
- 20:49that river that it's flowing with all might and power and
- 20:53strength and redemption and blood and all that is flowing.
- 20:56And it's up to us whether we're going to step into it and get
- 20:58our feet wet. Right.
- 21:01Yeah, our. Purpose, Our purpose in
- 21:04preaching and teaching ought to be to change people's affection,
- 21:09to turn their affection to what actually delivers, right.
- 21:12And so the only way to truly overcome an affection or a lust
- 21:17or a great desire that you have is not by saying no to the drive
- 21:22or saying no to the affection. The affection is there.
- 21:26You need to replace it with a greater affection.
- 21:28And so as long as you're just trying to replace your affection
- 21:31for worldly things with religious things, all you've
- 21:34done is turn your affection from one set of worldly things like
- 21:38cars, trucks, and technology onto some other set of worldly
- 21:41things like touch not, taste not handle not and trying to dress
- 21:44yourself up just right. I I believe it will be as much
- 21:48or more of a challenge for us as Christians to avoid religion as
- 21:53it will be to avoid sin. The the problem is that religion
- 21:57and philosophy will act won't actually make you free from sin,
- 22:01but it will dress you up with an appearance of humility and
- 22:04godliness. And so it's that much more
- 22:06tempting than outright sin. It's it's much more tempting
- 22:09than going to the bars and drinking or strip clubs.
- 22:11You know, like that's not tempting because that's the
- 22:14botched and it's ugly. It doesn't bring any glory to
- 22:17me, but that outward religion does and it and it has this
- 22:21appearance of will worship. And so you need to replace your
- 22:24affection. You need to get a better
- 22:26affection than the sin of this world or the religion of this
- 22:29world. That's so good.
- 22:32And. You know, that is just as filthy
- 22:35as going to the barge of the strip club, you know, so.
- 22:39Yeah, Yep, that's good. Thank you for that.
- 22:42Then. Appreciate that, Romans.
- 22:44Romans 69311 says knowing that Christ being raised from the
- 22:49dead dieth no more death, has no more dominion over him, but for
- 22:53in that he died, he died under sin once, but in that he liveth,
- 22:56he liveth unto God. Likewise reckon ye also
- 22:59yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God
- 23:03through Jesus Christ our Lord. That's what we're talking about.
- 23:06Like like Andrew was already saying and then mentioned, you
- 23:10know, it's already been done. You know, just convinced, you
- 23:13know, be convinced of that truth, believe it and it says
- 23:17set your affection on things above not all things of the
- 23:19other. I know, Dan, a couple you kind
- 23:21of commented on on this verse already verse 2 there, but set
- 23:25your affection on things above, not all things of the earth.
- 23:28Dan, you mentioned that that it like as a preacher, a teacher,
- 23:31it's our job to maybe do that more, you know, like like set,
- 23:37get get the people to believe how or change their affection or
- 23:40whatever. I'd be interested in hearing
- 23:43like, what do, how do we do that?
- 23:45Like what is, how do we, how do we get somebody to change their
- 23:49affection? You know, comment on the verse
- 23:53however you want, but, but that in the back of your mind, like,
- 23:55what do we do? What do we have to offer that
- 23:57would cause people to change their affection?
- 24:00Because I, I know one thing. If I have a a piece of candy in
- 24:03my hand, you know as a 5 year old kid, it's going to be hard
- 24:06for you to wrench that thing out of my hand unless I see
- 24:09something that is better, right? Yeah, I, I think it's a
- 24:14combination of both seeing the ugliness of sin and the result
- 24:17of it, but then the glories of Christ.
- 24:20I'm starting my way through first Peter right now on my
- 24:23WhatsApp and YouTube. And he knew and before he
- 24:28started writing the letter that the people he was writing to,
- 24:31the stranger's scattered throat, Pontus and Galatia and so on and
- 24:34so forth, that they were going through a real tough time, that
- 24:37they were in great heaviness through manifold temptations.
- 24:40He knew that before He started the letter, but his first 456
- 24:43verses are just these flowery, beautiful, poetic words about
- 24:48the glories of Christ and what He's done and how He's reserved
- 24:52an inheritance for us that's incorruptible and undefiled that
- 24:55doesn't fade away. And we are kept by the power of
- 24:58God unto salvation like He. He lifts up the great work of
- 25:01Christ and makes us see how beautiful and complete and whole
- 25:05it is. And then he says, yeah, and I
- 25:07know you're going through heaviness, but he first set
- 25:11their affection in the correct place so that he could talk to
- 25:14them about their heaviness. Because if he started off the
- 25:17conversation with his deep heaviness that you get sunk into
- 25:20that, that's where your tension goes.
- 25:22That's where your mind goes. And so I this is where I believe
- 25:26a sermon is incomplete without a presentation of the gospel,
- 25:30without some reference to the glories of Christ.
- 25:33I know when you're teaching through a book, there's sections
- 25:36where you're it's not the focus is not Christ.
- 25:38But you know, the great Charles Spurgeon had said, you know, no,
- 25:43no Christ in your sermon, Sir, go home and never preach again
- 25:46until you see, I forget exactly the rest of the quote, but that
- 25:49was kind of where he's like, don't ever preach again unless
- 25:52you're finding Christ in the text.
- 25:54I mean, you might want to air on the side of putting Christ in a
- 25:57text that he doesn't belong to rather than preaching a whole
- 26:01text and there being no attention on Christ.
- 26:04And so I think emphasizing Christ and his work repeatedly
- 26:08and constantly reminding people again and again of the great
- 26:11work of Christ and and making it beautiful, letting people see
- 26:15the glories of it. That's, that's, that's
- 26:18beautiful, Melvin. Yeah, I think one of the things
- 26:22I see maybe is the word affection.
- 26:25Set your affection on things above.
- 26:28If you look up that word, it actually means to exercise the
- 26:32mind or to have a sediment or opinion.
- 26:35So it gives kind of an idea that you're setting your mind, but
- 26:40you're changing your mind. And because of the previous
- 26:44verse, he said seek those things which are above.
- 26:48And now he's saying set your affection on those things which
- 26:52are above. I guess that's kind of what I
- 26:54see. And like, if you're going to set
- 26:57your mind on something, you are going to set your mind on
- 27:01something, let's put it that way, right?
- 27:02You're going to set your mind on either lust or fulfilling your
- 27:08flesh, whatever that looks like, alcohol, women, whatever, or
- 27:14you're going to turn into religion instead, right?
- 27:18And, and you're going to try and set your mind on those things.
- 27:23And that's what he's saying that they were trying to do.
- 27:27But we need to set our minds or our affection on Christ and
- 27:33Christ, what he has done and what he did is enough and it is
- 27:38complete and we are who we are in him.
- 27:42I I That's just my thought, but. That's good, Andrew.
- 27:49Yeah, verse it says seek those things which are above.
- 27:53So it's changing. He wants us to change to the
- 27:55direction of our affection. It says seek those things which
- 28:00are above where Christ sitters on the right hand of God.
- 28:03Then he says set your affection on things above, not on things
- 28:07in the on the earth. So if you're earthly minded, you
- 28:11can just tell where someone's affections are.
- 28:14You can tell whether someone affections are on things above
- 28:19and just by talking to him for a little while, you can have also
- 28:25bad affection like in verse 5 it says in one of the sins it says
- 28:29inordinate affection. So you can, you might be very
- 28:35compassionate and affectionate about something, but it's
- 28:37inordinate. It's not it's not good.
- 28:41So I'm not saying that every affection we have is good and it
- 28:46just needs to be directed in the right direction.
- 28:48There's also an inordinate affection evidence for your
- 28:51affection about something that good.
- 28:55So yeah, I would say he's again just bringing us back to keep
- 29:04notice words seek in verse one that tells you that there's a
- 29:08lot of stuff hidden in the finished work of Jesus Christ
- 29:12that gets revealed as you seek. You see it you you learn it and
- 29:18hear a question about how do you get someone to change the
- 29:21direction of their affection is the only way that I know so far
- 29:25is kind of how Paul does is he he is to prove how short their
- 29:32way is falling like you had peace.
- 29:38Why are you doing sacrifices? Why are you doing what you're
- 29:41doing? Like I'm, I know a guy that he
- 29:47doesn't believe that we're sanctified in an instant.
- 29:52He doesn't believe that we're justified in an instant, that we
- 29:57gradually get justified or we gradually get become godly.
- 30:01And the only question I have is at what point do you become
- 30:05godly? Do you ever reach a point of
- 30:07godliness and you know they have all their ways to go around to
- 30:13try to make it make sense more than just faith and that we're
- 30:16already godly through Christ Jesus.
- 30:18So disaffections are in something that falls short.
- 30:23The best thing I know we can do is just show how short it falls.
- 30:27And so like, well, you have peace and joy and where would
- 30:30you go if you died tonight? And and then he then if he says,
- 30:35well, I would go to heaven because of such and such and
- 30:36such and such, Well, just always point to how that in your own
- 30:44body, God says, you know, his standard is way higher.
- 30:47So how do you measure up with that?
- 30:49And then like you were saying, you got to show something
- 30:53better. That's how you get a kit to drop
- 30:55a piece of candy is to roll in a brand new bicycle and they go,
- 30:59all of a sudden they're not hungry.
- 31:01They want to try that bike. And so you have to first show
- 31:06them the weight of sin, how ungodly we are.
- 31:09So it kind of dismantles their hope that they have in that
- 31:13thing that is actually not a hope and draw them to something
- 31:18that is sure. Yeah, Well, I was, I was
- 31:22interested in hearing what you have to say about it.
- 31:24I, I think you're right. I, I like those points.
- 31:27There's there's something that we in the advertising world know
- 31:31too, is that if we want an ad to work, we when we put a Facebook
- 31:37ad or whatever out on on the Internet, we set our ad dollars
- 31:43to show the same person the same ad five to seven times.
- 31:49That is the amount of times that a person needs to see an ad
- 31:52before he is either fully convinced that he won't click or
- 31:56he already did. Number five to seven
- 32:00impressions, they call it and and so there's there's something
- 32:05scientific about the fact that if you look at something and I
- 32:09just I just saw this, you guys commented on it saying that
- 32:12first it says seek this, those, those things which are above and
- 32:15then set your affections on them.
- 32:16That is actually a natural process.
- 32:18If you whatever you behold and look at your, your heart turns
- 32:24toward it. You think, Have you ever
- 32:26considered why a Ford dealership would spend hundreds, if not
- 32:30thousands of dollars every single month in a light bill to
- 32:34put lights in their yard so that everybody that drives by there
- 32:37could see those shiny new vehicles?
- 32:39It's not because they wanted to look good.
- 32:41And they could. They could find cameras,
- 32:43security cameras at work just fine in the dark.
- 32:46No, it's for that impression. It's for you to see that thing
- 32:49and build that, that one, build that one, build that one till
- 32:53you go by. And so if you use that same
- 32:56strategy, I know that God is always drawing us.
- 32:58And there's other other points in this, in this spiritual
- 33:01aspect of it, but the I mean, it works the same way for this
- 33:06impressions, impressions like, and that's an encouragement to
- 33:09me. Sometimes you you preach the
- 33:11gospel message and nothing happened.
- 33:13You're like, what was that in vain?
- 33:14No, it wasn't. It was one of those impressions.
- 33:16It was one of those impressions from.
- 33:19The in the book of James, he tells us that every man is
- 33:23tempted when he is drawn away of his own lust and enticed so that
- 33:28it could be said this way. You only ever sin because you
- 33:32want to. Nobody sins because they don't
- 33:36want to. What drew you away?
- 33:38Well, I had this desire. Well, yeah, there you go.
- 33:40You drew away after your own lust, your own affection.
- 33:44It was you that wanted what you got, and then you regretted it
- 33:48because there was another part of you that didn't want it.
- 33:50I get that. But the only way to avoid that
- 33:53want for lust, for sin, for some other corrupted, as he, as
- 33:59Andrew already pointed out, inordinate affection is to have
- 34:02a greater and deeper and better appreciation.
- 34:06You know, I was going to point out what religion will not
- 34:11dampen the desire. It will only condemn you when
- 34:16you make a fault in not overcoming or it will give you a
- 34:20false sense of security when you do partially overcome.
- 34:23So it it never actually helps you, it'll only condemn you or
- 34:27it will make you feel a little proud that you did OK.
- 34:31Yeah, there's wait, I'm going to point out something that might
- 34:36really help us kind of understand this whole in order
- 34:40or affection, like affection things.
- 34:43The I remember feeling like, you know, when I would be Amish and
- 34:49I'm looking at other people that say they're Christians, but then
- 34:52I look at the way they're dressed and picturing myself to
- 34:57be like that was just like, you know, I would, I would feel like
- 35:02I'm losing all my dignity and honor by getting rid of my
- 35:07clothing and wearing something to like just common like that,
- 35:12you know, just there's nothing that makes him stick out like I
- 35:17I'm, I'm it was the my clothing and lifestyle was very it meant
- 35:24a lot to me, evidently. Like it was where my honor and
- 35:28dignity lied. It was where it it seemed
- 35:32special and and worth there was worth there.
- 35:35It's like if I just drop all my clothing and I wear like English
- 35:41clothing, It's like I lost my honor, I lost my identity, I
- 35:46lost my dignity and man, that's in order to affection like it it
- 35:50the reason I'm saying it, it was a kind of a big deal to me.
- 35:53It was hard to breakthrough that until I saw what it was that it
- 35:58was a will worship and it was it was God was not impressed.
- 36:05And now I'm like on the other side.
- 36:07I want to be as common. I've tell people that I'll I'll
- 36:10dress on purpose to make people think I'm not a Christian based
- 36:14on the way I look. I don't want anybody to think
- 36:16that I'm a believer based on the clothing I'm wearing.
- 36:22I like that, Andrew. That is good because in all
- 36:24reality, people seeing Christ in US should not be by our
- 36:29clothing, right? They should be able to see the
- 36:33Bible says where it says that out of your belly will flow
- 36:37rivers of living water right and things nurses like that's what I
- 36:40think about is what people see in you this in the see Christ in
- 36:45you like they see the spirit in you, not whether you're wearing
- 36:49the right clothing. No, that doesn't mean I don't
- 36:52try to be respectful. Like I was wearing a sleeveless
- 36:55shirt today out mowing hay and I came in and Hannah's like, hey,
- 36:59do you want to change? Because they might think you're
- 37:01not non resistant because you're bearing arms.
- 37:06I was getting worried a bit. You might show up with Mohawk
- 37:10and tattoos and who knows what. Bear arm, bear arms, bear arms.
- 37:17I thought that was pretty funny. That is funny.
- 37:21Well, I know, I know. You try to be respectful because
- 37:25I've seen you go step aside and change your shirt quick.
- 37:30All right, you jumped me for it. Yeah, of course we did all.
- 37:34Right Mercury, for ye are dead and your life is hid with Christ
- 37:40in God. Dad I'll let you go on this but
- 37:45if anyone doesn't understand what this is talking about read
- 37:50read through Romans. That really takes this down
- 37:53right to the right to the last hair of breath on how that all
- 37:57works and how that looks like. Yeah, I clicked on a link today
- 38:03of a local young man who was hanging around where my
- 38:07daughters were for a little while today.
- 38:09And he, he tries to be very spiritual.
- 38:11He wants to be very sober and, and diligent and, and it there's
- 38:14some respectable things about him.
- 38:16He's trying very much to be like that, that hard working
- 38:20discipline, no nonsense, kind of a Christian, right.
- 38:23So he's taking some of that philosophy that's this world's
- 38:26thing right now, like, you know, do hard things, wake up at 4:00
- 38:31AM, work out hard, have cold showers that like that kind of
- 38:34mentality. And he's trying to make it a
- 38:36Christian thing. So he you know, he got down all
- 38:39cool and casual like on his on his bed, had the video camera on
- 38:43and he said something about he was going to be crucifying
- 38:46himself and he was going to be having cold showers and he was
- 38:50going to fast for so and so much of the of the month coming up
- 38:54and he was going to avoid this and avoid that.
- 38:56And I just thought like, that's as vain as it gets, especially
- 39:03to publicize it. You know, like what, what are
- 39:06you trying to gain from this? And, and how much deader are you
- 39:09getting through a cold shower? You know that you're, you're,
- 39:12you're just subjecting your body to another touch knot or a taste
- 39:17knot or some kind of comfort or anything, when the text here is
- 39:20so abundantly clear. And the reason why it's so hard
- 39:25for most religious people to accept this concept of you are
- 39:29dead is because the same reason it's hard to accept a free gift
- 39:34of salvation. Like, no, no, no, no, I, I've
- 39:36got to give you something. I've I've got to earn it some
- 39:38way. No, no, you are you are saved by
- 39:42great through faith. It's not of works, not of works
- 39:44lest Amen should boast. So now they accept that.
- 39:47But when it comes to freedom from sin and freedom from the
- 39:50affection towards sin and religion, people just can't
- 39:54accept it. They it's just too simple like
- 39:56no, no, no, I've got to put something to death.
- 39:58I've got to die to self. I've got to crucify the flesh.
- 40:01I've got to do something. But but it says right here that
- 40:05set your affection up there because.
- 40:09You're dead because you're dead. Your body has been crucified
- 40:14together with Christ. When Christ died, you died.
- 40:16Yeah I know, but I still got all this drive.
- 40:19Most just dry. Set your affection on things
- 40:22above 4 because you are dead, not because you're trying to be
- 40:27dead. You're not trying to put on a a
- 40:30display of being dead. You are dead.
- 40:33Therefore set your affection somewhere else.
- 40:35Your life is hid with Christ in God.
- 40:38You couldn't be more complete than being at the right hand of
- 40:43the throne on high like being in Christ in God.
- 40:47You know, it's, it's as complete as it gets, but the challenge is
- 40:52to believe that, to accept it, to walk in it.
- 40:54And that is a real challenge. But it's not about trying to
- 40:57crucify yourself to become more dead or to become more in Christ
- 41:01or try to get into God. The work was done when Christ
- 41:05died. You died, you are dead and your
- 41:08life is currently hid with Christ and God.
- 41:11I am right now seated in the heaven places.
- 41:15Call me crazy if you like. This is what the Bible says.
- 41:19That's what I'm basing my my position on.
- 41:24Yeah, and it's effective too. Melvin, I'm.
- 41:27Going to let you. Go ahead, Andrew.
- 41:29I got to go get a cough. Drop my throat.
- 41:32Go ahead, Andrew. I'll be right back.
- 41:36Oh man, now I now I'm not. I had.
- 41:43All these ballots now. Now Melvin startled me.
- 41:48Yeah. What?
- 41:49What verse were we on again? Verse 3 for your life is hid
- 41:53with oh you. Are dead, yeah.
- 41:55So like you were saying that it's so hard for us to believe
- 42:00that we're dead and it's in still a challenge for me.
- 42:04So all of us would have to agree with the opposition when they
- 42:13say, well, so you're saying your flesh is dead.
- 42:18So you don't it doesn't hurt you or you're dead.
- 42:21You're like, obviously in our life here, we're not dead.
- 42:26This flesh is still here. We're not trying, we're not
- 42:32trying to. How would I say this?
- 42:39The way that I am debt to sin is by believing that I am dead.
- 42:43And if I'm not completely free and debt to sin, it's my I have
- 42:50a believing problem, not a deading problem like a dying
- 42:53problem. I have a believing problem.
- 42:56I'm So if you're not as dead to sin as you'd like to be, stop
- 43:01trying to be more debtor and start believing in the promise
- 43:05that you are dead. There's not a process of dying
- 43:08going on here. You're circumcised with a
- 43:11circumcision mate without hands. That is a one time cut.
- 43:15Like Dan was saying, we don't do progressive dying here.
- 43:19Like that would be like progressively cutting.
- 43:22You're like, we'll do one scratch one night and then the
- 43:24next night they like they say die daily, which is completely
- 43:28out of context. If you look at that passage in
- 43:31First Corinthians, or is it Second Corinthians where it says
- 43:34I die daily? He was clearly talking about
- 43:36persecution. He's not talking about dying to
- 43:38the old man or sin. It's not what he's talking
- 43:41about. So stop using that.
- 43:43It's not what he's saying you are circumcised.
- 43:49To go to try and die to yourself and die daily is to believe that
- 43:56you are dead. He tell he's going to tell us a
- 43:58little bit later because you are dead.
- 44:00Mortify your members, which in their in their argument they say
- 44:06see there he tells us to to put to death our members.
- 44:09Well, it's based on the fact that we are dead, not so that we
- 44:12become dead. See, don't jerk it out of
- 44:16context there. So again, if you're trying to
- 44:18die out of the flesh, believe it.
- 44:21Believe that's the challenge is to believe that we are dead.
- 44:23There's no process of dying going on here.
- 44:27You believe? Well, there might be a process
- 44:29in your experience in which is based on how much you believe
- 44:33that you are dead. I'll give that progression
- 44:37there. If there is a progression, it is
- 44:39based on your faith. Yeah.
- 44:43Yeah, Yeah, that's, that's good point, Andrew, that it does
- 44:46because it does sometimes seem like you don't.
- 44:48You don't realize it all at once.
- 44:49You don't believe it all at once.
- 44:51But as you see that truth to be evident, then you get more
- 44:55confidence in it and act like it.
- 44:57Because I don't act like I'm dead all the time at all.
- 45:00Probably every day somebody could say he's not dead, and I
- 45:04say yeah, and I'm working on it. Like I'm my, my one potential
- 45:09rebuttal to that would be just to, to clarify, I don't think
- 45:13this is what Andrew's saying, but some people might hear it
- 45:14this way that OK, so I need to believe more to be dead more.
- 45:19So then it still becomes this challenge of OK, I'm trying to
- 45:22believe. The more I believe, the more
- 45:23dead I am. I, I would say this statement is
- 45:26true of you today, whether you believe it or not.
- 45:29You are dead and you are free from sin.
- 45:32Well, how do I, how do I realize that?
- 45:34How do I accept that? Or how do I actually see the
- 45:37evidence of that, believe the truth of it?
- 45:40But you're not becoming more dead by believing it more you're
- 45:44dead already. That happened in Christ and now
- 45:47you need to believe it to see the reality of it.
- 45:50Yeah, I guess I was trying to kind of help someone understand
- 45:53that it will become more in your experience.
- 45:59If that's what bothers you so badly that your experience says
- 46:03otherwise from the promise that you are dead, you are as dead as
- 46:07you're ever going to get right now.
- 46:09If you're a believer, you are dead like Dan's saying, but
- 46:15don't stop believing it because your experience is not quite as
- 46:19100% yet. That's what I was trying to say
- 46:23is allow that progression, if you want to call a progression
- 46:27of your experience to become, to come to pass, if that's what you
- 46:33need. I guess I just don't want to
- 46:35spend any time there myself because if God says I'm dead,
- 46:39I'm dead, and my experience is not going to change my mind to
- 46:43whether God is lying when he says I'm dead.
- 46:46God said I'm dead, so I'm dead. And does it come out that I'm
- 46:52dead all the time? No, it doesn't.
- 46:54But that doesn't change the fact that I'm dead.
- 46:56Yeah, Thank you. Damn that.
- 46:59I got to. Verify that more.
- 47:01Now are you going to believe what you see, or are you going
- 47:04to believe what is written? Exactly.
- 47:07Exactly. Yeah, I'm going to come out at
- 47:10another angle. I'll just switch turn to Romans
- 47:13611 where it says likewise reckon you also yourselves to be
- 47:17dead on the sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our
- 47:21Lord. So uses that word reckon, which
- 47:24is a it's a term that you use to in your books, like in, in the
- 47:30counting term where you're reconciling your checkbook or
- 47:34reconciling your books to the bank.
- 47:37So in other words, that's something that I do every month.
- 47:41I don't always, but I should, right?
- 47:44So we should be reconciling our checkbook every month to the
- 47:47bank. And that's what he's pointing
- 47:49out here that we are to reconcile.
- 47:52In other words, look at what the truth is, what you guys just
- 47:56said. It says in caution 3/3 for ye
- 47:59are dead. It says you are dead.
- 48:01It doesn't say you might be or you feel like you're dead or you
- 48:05should be. You are.
- 48:07And so according to Romans, we're to reckon ourselves to
- 48:11that, reconcile. Look at that.
- 48:13And yes, that is true. That is even though I might not
- 48:17be living like that or feel like I am dead today or yesterday or
- 48:23whatever. But that is the truth and.
- 48:27Yeah, the hardest, the hardest day to believe this to be true
- 48:31is the day when you really mess up and you live and you walk
- 48:34after the flesh in some way. And then you need to go back to
- 48:38immediately just saying, well, that's not me.
- 48:40I, I not like you're pretending like you didn't do it, recognize
- 48:44you sinned. But you don't have to go back
- 48:47into that habit. That doesn't have to become who
- 48:49you now are because that man was crucified.
- 48:53Yeah, you messed up and and there's going to be, you know, a
- 48:56loss of reward for something perhaps or judgment in some way.
- 48:59But all sin has been washed away and we are dead to sin now.
- 49:04Currently, even the days when I mess up, you're from from that
- 49:08moment that you mess up going forward, you're still just as
- 49:10dead as you were before. And so it is very difficult to
- 49:13say. OK God, I'm going to accept what
- 49:16you say over what I see feel here taste and touch.
- 49:19Just like Abraham believed he was the father of great nation
- 49:23when he was beyond childbearing years and he looked over his
- 49:26wife and the deadness of her womb and he didn't see any
- 49:29possibility of life coming from her.
- 49:32He reckoned God to be true and God to be every man to be a liar
- 49:38and even himself and his own reality to be alive versus what
- 49:41God has said. And so that is the challenge on
- 49:45good days and bad, to recognize that what God said is true of me
- 49:48now, and it is now and it is now, right?
- 49:51Like no matter where you are at, no matter what you have done or
- 49:54how you've behaved, the truth is still what is true, right?
- 49:59Yeah, I tell you what, we're, if we guys listen, we're spending a
- 50:03lot of time on this, but this is the crux of the Christian walk.
- 50:07If you don't understand this point about your being in
- 50:12Christ, you're always going to struggle with sin.
- 50:14Guaranteed. This is the only escape route
- 50:17that is out there to not do the desires of the flesh.
- 50:20My testimony personally is very much that way.
- 50:23I've tried alternate means and to no avail.
- 50:26And so mentally, I wrote in my checkbook Ledger to a line up,
- 50:31you know, you go to the bank, you get the final number, you
- 50:33align your checkbook with that. It's in there.
- 50:36Leon Martin is dead in Christ. And that is a mental note that I
- 50:40have. Whether I, whether I experienced
- 50:43that is beside the point. And I tell you what, the relief
- 50:47that that truth brings to your life is phenomenal.
- 50:53I highly recommend it. I, I don't, I don't know of any
- 50:56better way to manage or whatever.
- 50:59If you want to say so. It's actually not even managing.
- 51:02It's just Simply put aside, just.
- 51:04Yeah. Good stuff.
- 51:07All right. Verse four.
- 51:08Yeah. Quick, I guess 10 minutes.
- 51:11When Christ, who is our life shall appear, then shall ye also
- 51:15appear with him in glory? Yeah.
- 51:21Kind of wraps it up here. Damn.
- 51:23Yeah. Like if you want to know to what
- 51:26extent are we in Christ? Is it just theoretical?
- 51:29Is it just positional? Is it just some ethereal sense
- 51:32or just in theological terms? It says when Christ, who is our
- 51:38very life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in
- 51:43glory. When you see Christ come back,
- 51:48all the dead Saints, all people who believe in Christ are coming
- 51:52back with Him, and they will be because they're in Him.
- 51:55Our life is hid with Christ in God, and Christ is our life.
- 52:00So when he shall appear, we shall appear with Him.
- 52:03That's how complete we are in Him.
- 52:05We are dead with Him, we are buried with Him, we are raised
- 52:09with Him, we are seated with Him, we're coming back with Him.
- 52:13And if you can't quite reconcile that in your mind, then you have
- 52:17to change your thinking about this.
- 52:20You need to check your affection and check where you are seated
- 52:23based on Christ's word, not based on what you feel here.
- 52:27See, taste and touch. Your life is hid with Christ in
- 52:31God, and when He comes back, you're coming back with Him.
- 52:34And we can't fully wrap our minds around that because it
- 52:37kind of separates us from who we are in Christ.
- 52:41It separates us from our position in Christ.
- 52:44But that's the reality. Anything that argues against it
- 52:48is something we ought to check off as this is not true.
- 52:52The truth is I'm in Christ. The truth is I'm see it there.
- 52:56Truth is, when he comes back, I'm going to appear with him.
- 52:59That's the truth. Yep.
- 53:03That would. Well, here's the thing that I
- 53:06see. We don't.
- 53:08It's sometimes, like you said, it's hard to wrap our brains
- 53:11around this, and it is. But what happens, I think is we
- 53:15tend to because we can't fully wrap our heads around it.
- 53:19And it's something that maybe we can't fully grasp.
- 53:22Then we turn to what he just thought talking about is will
- 53:29worship and and trying to, you know, mortify your your body or
- 53:35your flesh with religious acts instead of the the fact or the
- 53:41truth that we just got this done saying that you are dead with
- 53:45Christ. And that's kind of I mean, it's
- 53:49but the fact is this is that it doesn't matter.
- 53:52We don't have to fully grasp it or fully understand it.
- 53:57It is the truth and we can believe it by faith and we can
- 54:02walk in it by faith, right? That's what God wants.
- 54:04He doesn't. He's not looking for some sort
- 54:06of external thing that we're trying to do or a physical
- 54:10thing. But unfortunately, that's what
- 54:12we want to turn to. We want to turn to something
- 54:14that we can see or we can actually do, instead of actually
- 54:19believing it by faith. Right, Andrew?
- 54:23Yeah, you want to go to glory, Get in the one that is going to
- 54:27glory. Jesus Christ came to take us
- 54:34from the first Adam who fell and put us into the second Adam.
- 54:40You came to translate us from the Kingdom of darkness into the
- 54:43Kingdom of His dear Son in light of darkness to light.
- 54:49From life to death from from death to life, from
- 54:53unrighteousness to righteous, from alive and the sin to debt
- 54:57to sin, from being affectionate and compassionate about this
- 55:03world to having our affections and focus on the next World, the
- 55:09world to come. And it's pretty much all of our
- 55:14Christian life has to do with believing something that we
- 55:17can't see yet. It's a, it's, it's, it all hangs
- 55:21on that the, the element of faith and the reason that we
- 55:27struggle so much. One of the reasons we, I think
- 55:29we struggle so much is because we've spiritualized the concept
- 55:32of faith. We think it's some kind of
- 55:35mystical thing out there that God is waiting to give us some
- 55:38of this supernatural faith somehow.
- 55:41But faith is not spiritual. If I may be so bold, it's not a
- 55:45spiritual thing. If I told all four of you that
- 55:51I'm going to come out there Groundhog hunting tomorrow and
- 55:55if you hear some gunshots, you know who it is.
- 55:58If you tomorrow would hear some gunshots, you would say, oh,
- 56:01that's Andrew because you judged me according to what I said.
- 56:08You judged me faithful that I didn't just make it up that I'm
- 56:13going to come out Groundhog hunt.
- 56:15You know, like Abraham judged God faithful that he who has
- 56:19promised, he's also able to perform.
- 56:22So if my wife says we're going to have meatloaf for supper and
- 56:30somebody asked me 10 minutes later that doesn't know my wife,
- 56:35what are you going to have for supper?
- 56:37I'm not going to get all spirits and go try to feel something,
- 56:41try to muster up some kind of faith or whatever.
- 56:45I'm going to say, well, she said we're having meatloaf.
- 56:47So we're having meatloaf. You know, does that sound
- 56:51spiritual? I don't think it's faith.
- 56:53Is that spiritual? I think it's looking at the
- 56:56evidence, looking at what God has promised.
- 56:59Even the sports players, the players like the NBA or football
- 57:06teams, they talk about faith. Sometimes it's a faith that is
- 57:11not necessarily a promise, but they're looking at their team.
- 57:14They're looking at all their training.
- 57:16They're looking at the plays that they have and judging based
- 57:19on all the things that they're able to do and all the guys that
- 57:22they have and all their gifts and all the things they can do
- 57:25is like, I believe we can win this.
- 57:27I have confidence that we're going to win this.
- 57:29Now that's a very flimsy faith because there's no promise
- 57:33saying that you're going to win, but they're judging according to
- 57:36their talent. If you know what, I have faith
- 57:39that we can win this, that we can.
- 57:42Well, we have something much better than that.
- 57:45We have a God who cannot lie that told us that if we believe
- 57:49and put our faith and trust in Jesus Christ, we're dead.
- 57:53We're seated in heavenly places, We're ready to be revealed.
- 57:55We're in glory. Where God goes, we go.
- 57:59We're in him. We're in him.
- 58:02So we can't get away from glory. We're not going to escape glory.
- 58:06We're going to have to go to glory, you know, because that's
- 58:08where Jesus Christ is going. Amen.
- 58:12Says, wait, Christ, who is our life?
- 58:15He really is. Like literally that is where our
- 58:17life is and we are in him. So yeah, that's good.
- 58:21That's good. Couple couple verses I wouldn't
- 58:24mind pointing to Philippians chapter 321 Who shall change our
- 58:29vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious
- 58:33body? Colossians 127 The Christ in
- 58:37you, the hope of glory. Titus chapter 213 Looking for
- 58:42that blessed hope and the glorious appearing of the great
- 58:45God and our Savior Jesus Christ. Looks like we got a couple
- 58:51minutes. I was going to read first Peter
- 58:54Dan mentioned a little bit and I was going to read it the first
- 58:57time when I forgot. But this should help us too.
- 59:02Verse 3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
- 59:05which according to his abundant mercy has gotten us again unto a
- 59:10lively hope. You know like that verse was
- 59:13just talking about by the resurrection of Jesus Christ
- 59:17from the dead to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled,
- 59:20that fadeth not away reserved in heaven For you who are kept by
- 59:27the power of God through faith, faith unto salvation, ready to
- 59:32be revealed in the last time when you greatly rejoice, though
- 59:37now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through
- 59:40manifold temptations, but the trial of your faith again is a
- 59:44faith challenge, being much more precious than that of gold that
- 59:48perishes, though it be tried with fire might be found under
- 59:50the praise and glory and honor of appearing of Jesus Christ.
- 59:54Here's the verse I want to talk to.
- 59:56Whom, having not seen ye love, in whom though ye now you see
- 59:59him not yet be leading. He rejoiced with joy unspeakable
- 1:00:03and full of joy. Well, that's good, that's good.
- 1:00:10John. In first, John five, he makes it
- 1:00:13very clear. He says he that hath the Son
- 1:00:15hath life, and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.
- 1:00:20So simple. Already simple.
- 1:00:23Oh, that's good. Well, I'm glad we had a couple
- 1:00:26extra minutes to read those verses that really kind of put
- 1:00:29the fork in it. I think we're done now.
- 1:00:33All right, yeah, Thanks, Andrew, for the cherry on the top there.
- 1:00:36So, all right, that is it for this week, folks.
- 1:00:39Thank you very much. Appreciate it like always.
- 1:00:41Go see previous episodes at the website on the YouTube channel
- 1:00:44Simply Christ Ministries. It's all there.
- 1:00:47And folks, thanks for being on. Appreciate it.
- 1:00:49And we always look forward to the next time.
- 1:00:51So, yeah, have a good week. God bless you guys.
