Speaker 1: Well, hello, a good afternoon, or a good evening or
• 0:03
Speaker 1: a good morning. I don't know what time of day
• 0:05
Speaker 1: it is for you, but Brandon and I are here
• 0:08
Speaker 1: in studio. And Brandon, if some of you may recall,
• 0:12
Speaker 1: was in a very foul mood last week. That was
• 0:14
Speaker 1: not I was not upbeat and that was not my
• 0:16
Speaker 1: normal chip herself. No, no, and that's because you were robbed. Yes,
• 0:20
Speaker 1: I was robbed, robbed not once, but twice in one day,
• 0:23
Speaker 1: that's right. So he obviously has to move. But other
• 0:27
Speaker 1: than that, the great update, because you've been in Hawaii
• 0:30
Speaker 1: all wait, so a lot of things have transpired, Brandon.
• 0:33
Speaker 1: There's been a lot going on. And I came home
• 0:35
Speaker 1: to the news that the gentleman who is my neighbor
• 0:38
Speaker 1: who robbed me, the perpetrator, he was arrested, and it
• 0:41
Speaker 1: didn't look like justice was going to be served. But
• 0:43
Speaker 1: we had Jennifer Lopez type of d A or detective
• 0:48
Speaker 1: detective you referenced Jennifer Lopez. Question, she's been on the brain. Yeah,
• 0:52
Speaker 1: apparently she stopped by and she let us know that
• 0:55
Speaker 1: she was definitely going after him and going to pursue charges.
• 0:58
Speaker 1: And she did. And when that happened. Jennifer Lopez, Yes
• 1:02
Speaker 1: Jlo herself descended upon his house with the swat and
• 1:05
Speaker 1: a fucking helicopter to arrest him. That is exces juice.
• 1:11
Speaker 1: I mean, I just thought, like, you know, someone would
• 1:13
Speaker 1: sweep by, pick him up, put him in the back
• 1:15
Speaker 1: of a cop car. But no, they did a full
• 1:19
Speaker 1: descent on his home and he was arrested. So gratifying
• 1:23
Speaker 1: after that fucking asshole stole from you, not once he
• 1:26
Speaker 1: stole from him, like a year ago. He broke into
• 1:29
Speaker 1: their house. Then he came back again, and then he
• 1:31
Speaker 1: came back again. His friends came back later that day
• 1:34
Speaker 1: after Brandon chased him down the street and apprehended him himself.
• 1:38
Speaker 1: The police were like, there's nothing you can do. There's
• 1:40
Speaker 1: nothing you can do unless you catch him in the act,
• 1:42
Speaker 1: which you did. But then I guess I've realized that
• 1:46
Speaker 1: the law is very intricate, that there are a lot
• 1:49
Speaker 1: of levels to the protections for people, which I understand. However,
• 1:53
Speaker 1: I fucking caught this guy with the stolen goods, and
• 1:55
Speaker 1: there were still not much there could be done until
• 1:58
Speaker 1: again this detective came in on her white horse to
• 2:00
Speaker 1: save the day. And now I have to go testifying.
• 2:04
Speaker 1: I'll get to Oh, I can't wait for that. That
• 2:07
Speaker 1: is like a courtroom draw. There's nothing I love more
• 2:09
Speaker 1: than at the Law and Order SVU moment I've been
• 2:12
Speaker 1: waiting for for so long. Well, it's just so gratifying
• 2:15
Speaker 1: because it really felt like the police were not going
• 2:17
Speaker 1: to do anything about this because of this no bail
• 2:20
Speaker 1: rule that we have in Los Angeles, which means that
• 2:22
Speaker 1: you can get arrested for a non violent crime, but
• 2:25
Speaker 1: then you're booked and released the same day. Yes, it's
• 2:27
Speaker 1: an immediate release, which again I understand components of all
• 2:31
Speaker 1: of these things now. And I had a very bad attitude.
• 2:33
Speaker 1: I was mean to basically everyone I encountered the day
• 2:35
Speaker 1: we were robbed. I was screaming at every police officer
• 2:37
Speaker 1: who I had to interact with. And so I'd like
• 2:40
Speaker 1: to apologize for our behavior. But that's nice. Nobody needs
• 2:44
Speaker 1: to be yelled ABT. No. I do understand that there
• 2:46
Speaker 1: are everyone's trying to do their job. Everyone I think
• 2:49
Speaker 1: wants justice to be served. But because there's been injustice
• 2:53
Speaker 1: for so long, we now have to course correct. And
• 2:55
Speaker 1: again it can go too far one direction or another,
• 2:58
Speaker 1: but we'll find we'll find the appriate footing. I think, well,
• 3:01
Speaker 1: so how did you find out about the arrest? The
• 3:04
Speaker 1: detective emailed while we were away and let us know
• 3:07
Speaker 1: what was going on and what charges. He's being charged
• 3:09
Speaker 1: with three felonies. Oh good, maybe whatever his name is,
• 3:12
Speaker 1: I don't want to say his name, that's not really fair.
• 3:15
Speaker 1: Hopefully he'll get a ship together. I spoke to him
• 3:18
Speaker 1: very compassionately while it was happening, even though you were
• 3:20
Speaker 1: apprehending him, that this is not the life you want
• 3:23
Speaker 1: to live. There's so much more opportunity than robbing your neighbors.
• 3:27
Speaker 1: And I mean, he was on drugs, but I think
• 3:30
Speaker 1: he heard me. He'll hear me in court. Well, actually,
• 3:33
Speaker 1: you probably by that time, yeah, I mean you're probably
• 3:35
Speaker 1: gonna have you already have empathy for him, so you
• 3:38
Speaker 1: probably will have to have empathy for people. Actually, my car,
• 3:41
  Speaker 1: since I've lived here, I've lived in l A for
• 3:42
Speaker 1: six years, my car has been broken into three times,
• 3:44
Speaker 1: every time it's around Christmas. And I just try and
• 3:47
Speaker 1: to remind myself that when it happens, because it's so
• 3:49
Speaker 1: freaking annoying, that whoever is doing that doesn't want to
• 3:52
Speaker 1: be doing it, that they're in a position where they
• 3:54
Speaker 1: feel like this is their only option and it's the holidays,
• 3:57
Speaker 1: like who knows if they're doing it for their family
• 3:58
Speaker 1: to get gifts. So you try and lead with empathy
• 4:01
Speaker 1: in these things. But well more on a happier note, though,
• 4:04
Speaker 1: you just came back from like your first vacation since
• 4:06
Speaker 1: I've met you, your first real vacation vacation, And thank
• 4:10
Speaker 1: you so much for you did not bother me one time. No,
• 4:14
  Speaker 1: I didn't. I didn't want to. I wanted you to
• 4:16
Speaker 1: enjoy your time in the sun. Literally I did. I
• 4:18
Speaker 1: had a great time traveling during We're still in a pandemic,
• 4:21
Speaker 1: were on the tail end seemingly of the last year's quarantine,
• 4:27
Speaker 1: and so traveling felt a little strange. And it seemed
• 4:29
Speaker 1: like we went to a w who it seemed like
• 4:31
Speaker 1: they wanted it so badly to be wrapped up, but
• 4:33
Speaker 1: it still wasn't. So there was social distancing. There was
• 4:37
Speaker 1: you know, capacities at every restaurant, so limited capacities, cacities.
• 4:42
Speaker 1: So we just spent most of our time on the beach,
• 4:44
Speaker 1: which is exactly what we were there for, which was nice.
• 4:46
Speaker 1: And did sweetheart try to surf? I did try to surf,
• 4:49
Speaker 1: and it was so fucking hard. And you know, I
• 4:51
Speaker 1: really pride myself and being able to like lean into
• 4:53
Speaker 1: any sort of athletic activity and do well. I did
• 4:56
Speaker 1: not do well with surfingart. You know, I could have
• 4:59
Speaker 1: told you that Sweethearts aunt serf. I tried to serf
• 5:01
Speaker 1: once in Portugal, and I ended up with literally my
• 5:05
Speaker 1: breasts well they were exposed, which obviously everyone knows it's
• 5:08
Speaker 1: not a big deal for me, but in the way
• 5:10
Speaker 1: that they were exposed, it wasn't my choice. My bathing
• 5:12
Speaker 1: suit basically almost decapitated me. My bathing suit top because
• 5:16
Speaker 1: the waves were so quick in quick succession that I
• 5:19
Speaker 1: couldn't get my bearings. And I know that when you
• 5:22
Speaker 1: strapped the leash to your ankle, it's supposed to be
• 5:25
Speaker 1: for your safety, but all I wanted to do was
• 5:28
Speaker 1: get that fucking leash off my ankle. And all I
• 5:30
Speaker 1: could do was rip it off. And the guy, my
• 5:33
Speaker 1: surf instructor, who didn't speak English and I don't speak Portuguese,
• 5:36
Speaker 1: was saying like gesticulating, don't take off the rope, don't
• 5:39
Speaker 1: take off the rope on my fuck this rope funk.
• 5:42
Speaker 1: And then I just swam into shore, and by the
• 5:44
Speaker 1: time I got to the beach, my bikini top was
• 5:47
Speaker 1: around my neck, the bottom was gone, just I was bottomless,
• 5:51
Speaker 1: just soaked. I just covered in sand, and I looked
• 5:54
Speaker 1: like a sand dab. Actually I looked like somebody who
• 5:56
Speaker 1: had been dipped in sand and then was waiting to
• 5:59
Speaker 1: be fried. And it was humiliating, and I'll never forget
• 6:02
Speaker 1: my friend's boyfriend came running over to help me cover
• 6:05
Speaker 1: my Pikachu because it was out because I had no
• 6:07
Speaker 1: bathing suit bottom. But it was by far the most
• 6:10
Speaker 1: humiliating beach experience. Oh no, actually I did have another
• 6:14
Speaker 1: humiliating beach experience. I also too. Once went to Oahu
• 6:17
Speaker 1: with my sister showtime, and she and I went to
• 6:20
Speaker 1: the north shore and we thought, because we've grown up
• 6:22
Speaker 1: in Martha's Vineyard and we've had a lot of swimming,
• 6:26
Speaker 1: South beach is rough, and we thought we knew what
• 6:28
Speaker 1: was up. And we went out and there were all
• 6:33
Speaker 1: those signs on the beach saying like no swimming, but
• 6:36
Speaker 1: we didn't. I couldn't be bothered with that, so we
• 6:39
Speaker 1: went in and then as soon as we felt the riptide,
• 6:41
Speaker 1: we were like, oh my god, what the fuck and
• 6:44
Speaker 1: we were holding each other and holding each other, and
• 6:46
Speaker 1: then we had to ride in the waves to get
• 6:48
Speaker 1: out of you know, to get out of the ocean,
• 6:50
Speaker 1: and we had to time it. Finally I just let
• 6:52
Speaker 1: go of her hand. I'm like, everybody's on their own.
• 6:55
Speaker 1: I'm like each man for herself, and then I and
• 6:59
Speaker 1: it was the same scene, running like in slow motion
• 7:03
Speaker 1: to the safety of the beach. And when we got
• 7:05
Speaker 1: to the shore, everyone was on the beach screaming at
• 7:09
Speaker 1: us that we shouldn't have been swimming in the water.
• 7:11
Speaker 1: And then someone thought I was Pam Anderson because at
• 7:13
Speaker 1: that time I was like white blonde hair with just
• 7:15
Speaker 1: huge tits, and I pretended I was And I just
• 7:19
Speaker 1: took a bunch of pictures with some Japanese tourists. I'm sure. Yeah,
• 7:23
Speaker 1: so that was fun, but yeah, that was another bad
• 7:25
Speaker 1: ocean experience. The ocean can be very scary. Yeah, it's
• 7:28
Speaker 1: I love being on the water. I am so relaxed
• 7:31
Speaker 1: when I'm there, but if you go out too far,
• 7:33
Speaker 1: it's very menacing, like you get past the point of
• 7:36
Speaker 1: no returning, Like, wait, can I make it back to shore?
• 7:38
Speaker 1: I think I've gone too far, right, And it's also
• 7:40
Speaker 1: a giant toilet. So that's disgusting because when you really
• 7:45
Speaker 1: think about what's in the ocean, it's not great. It's
• 7:49
Speaker 1: the opposite of great. And the critters and the creatures
• 7:52
Speaker 1: that are in the ocean are also you know. Well,
• 7:56
Speaker 1: that's what I did like about Hawaii is that there
• 7:57
Speaker 1: are no questionable animals out and about We said, you
• 8:01
Speaker 1: had a baby pup, a seal and her pup. Yeah,
• 8:05
Speaker 1: but there's no like snakes, so you should love Hawaiian Yeah,
• 8:08
Speaker 1: that's actually one of my favorite things about Hawaii that
• 8:10
Speaker 1: there are no snakes. You don't have to worry about anything.
• 8:12
Speaker 1: They don't have any snakes in New Zealand either. By
• 8:14
Speaker 1: the way, there was a shark. Good that was scary.
• 8:18
Speaker 1: We we kind of like debriefed on the way here.
• 8:20
Speaker 1: I totally forgot to tell you there's a shark. Of
• 8:22
Speaker 1: course there was. Well, I did not think I have
• 8:25
Speaker 1: an unreasonable fear of sharks. When we went to Spain,
• 8:29
Speaker 1: you had to tell me that there were no sharks
• 8:31
Speaker 1: in that portion of the sea, so I would get
• 8:33
Speaker 1: in were But with global warming, they're coming in closer
• 8:36
Speaker 1: to places that they shouldn't be. And what you do
• 8:39
Speaker 1: if you see a shark as you hop on the
• 8:40
Speaker 1: back of it and hold onto the fin like it's
• 8:42
Speaker 1: a mountain. You mount it and just hope for the best.
• 8:45
Speaker 1: That's what I do. Well, that's advice for everyone. Well,
• 8:48
Speaker 1: where was the shark? So we had just left the
• 8:50
Speaker 1: hotel of this little private beach and this is where
• 8:52
Speaker 1: the seal and her pup were nesting, and we had
• 8:55
Speaker 1: just gone up. We looked over the balcony we were
• 8:57
Speaker 1: on the highest floor to see the mom and her
• 9:00
Speaker 1: up The fucking shark had come in to shore, I'm
• 9:03
Speaker 1: assumed to try and get it, and it just swam
• 9:04
Speaker 1: around for a few minutes and went on its little way.
• 9:06
Speaker 1: I mean it's probably like six or seven foot. It
• 9:09
Speaker 1: wasn't huge, but too big for me to be comfortable
• 9:12
Speaker 1: getting back in over there. Yeah, yeah, Well, when they're
• 9:14
Speaker 1: seals are sharks, I'm like, that's bait I don't need, right, So,
• 9:18
Speaker 1: how come the shark didn't get the pup or the seal, Well,
• 9:20
Speaker 1: because I think they had gone too far upshore. They
• 9:23
Speaker 1: were they were sunning. It must be hard to be
• 9:26
Speaker 1: constantly on the lookout of being fucking eaten. Well, I
• 9:30
Speaker 1: guess that's what people have to deal with now with sharks.
• 9:31
Speaker 1: I like when people say, oh, well, sharks aren't here
• 9:33
Speaker 1: to eat people, It's like, well, they keep fucking trying
• 9:35
Speaker 1: to So who gives a ship what their m O is?
• 9:38
Speaker 1: They're eating us. These sharks and these whales are much
• 9:40
Speaker 1: smarter than people give them credit for. Have you seen
• 9:42
Speaker 1: all these reports about these whales, Like when they hit
• 9:44
Speaker 1: the side of the boat and they take the propeller
• 9:47
Speaker 1: off and then they try and sink the boat. It's
• 9:49
Speaker 1: like a conscious effort. Really, it's like Moby Dick. But
• 9:54
Speaker 1: I didn't understand. And moby Dick was when they had
• 9:56
Speaker 1: all these little boats and when they would go whaling,
• 9:58
Speaker 1: you know, they're like little I need like almost like
• 10:01
Speaker 1: the equivalent of like a TP but on the flat
• 10:04
Speaker 1: for the pool, and they would harpoon the whales and
• 10:07
Speaker 1: it's like, why don't the whales just buck up against
• 10:09
Speaker 1: the boat. But maybe what's happening with the whales and
• 10:12
Speaker 1: the propeller is evolution, because whales now are hip to
• 10:16
Speaker 1: it and they're like, hey, stop sucking harpooning us. We
• 10:18
Speaker 1: need to be more respectful of the sea creatures in
• 10:21
Speaker 1: the ocean. Itself. It's I mean, it's really disgusting when
• 10:24
Speaker 1: you see all of the wash up of all these
• 10:27
Speaker 1: cigarbage and all all those pires. Is that what they're
• 10:31
Speaker 1: called pires? Or is that an Indian funeral piles pires? Yeah?
• 10:35
Speaker 1: I think they're called pires. It did give me a
• 10:37
Speaker 1: different appreciation for Mayorka as well, because of all the
• 10:42
Speaker 1: great jellyfish they have there, because I was also stung
• 10:44
  Speaker 1: by jellyfish. I didn't realize it. I don't know if
• 10:48
Speaker 1: you can even see anymore. I got out and I
• 10:49
Speaker 1: was looking at my rubbing my arm was like, oh,
• 10:51
Speaker 1: my arm feels hot. Did I burn it on a
• 10:53
Speaker 1: curling iron? We didn't have a curling iron, so I
• 10:55
Speaker 1: knew that wasn't it. And it would have been great
• 10:57
Speaker 1: if you did have a curling iron and you got
• 10:58
Speaker 1: it to the beach and he was like, oh, no,
• 11:01
Speaker 1: you're stung by jellyfish. He goes, but you know a
• 11:03
Speaker 1: lot of times their toxins aren't like intense enough to
• 11:05
Speaker 1: hurt you. And he's like, well, do I need to
• 11:07
Speaker 1: pee on it? I was like, I don't want you to,
• 11:10
Speaker 1: but he didn't. He did anyway, Well, it was fully clothed.
• 11:14
Speaker 1: That doesn't really make a difference. Okay, So what do
• 11:19
Speaker 1: we got on tap Today's sweetheart? Drugs sobriety? Oh, sobriety. Okay,
• 11:23
Speaker 1: Well that's boring but necessary for some people. Well let's
• 11:27
Speaker 1: find out who it's necessary for. Okay. Well, before we
• 11:30
Speaker 1: get to sobriety, it feels like you want to take
• 11:32
Speaker 1: a break. I feel like we should take a break eventually, prepare. Okay,
• 11:37
Speaker 1: you've done special on drugs, so people often ask you
• 11:39
Speaker 1: for your advice or input on drugs, and this is
• 11:42
Speaker 1: something that's pretty consistent across the board. So Scott writes
• 11:44
Speaker 1: in and he says, Dear Chelsea, I'm a big fan
• 11:46
Speaker 1: of recreational cocaine, and it's gotten to the point where
• 11:49
Speaker 1: I find myself micro dosing at work. My colleagues and
• 11:53
Speaker 1: my boss have both commented on how productive I've been
• 11:56
Speaker 1: over the past few weeks. However, they are unaware of
• 11:58
Speaker 1: the fact that I'm very much high. Is it a
• 12:03
Speaker 1: bad thing if it's helping me at work? Thanks Scott?
• 12:07
Speaker 1: Oh my god, wait, wait, micro dosinc. Yes, he's micro
• 12:12
Speaker 1: docin cocaine. I don't know. Docin cocaine is excellent. Okay,
• 12:16
Speaker 1: read it one more time. Let me just listen to it, Okay,
• 12:19
Speaker 1: Dear Chelsea. I'm a big fan of recreational cocaine, and
• 12:22
Speaker 1: it's gotten to the point where I find myself micro
• 12:24
Speaker 1: dosing at work. My colleagues and my boss have both
• 12:27
Speaker 1: commented on how productive I've been over the last few weeks. However,
• 12:31
Speaker 1: they are unaware of the fact that I am very
• 12:33
Speaker 1: much high. Is this a bad thing? If it's helping
• 12:35
Speaker 1: me at work? This is a real predicament for Scott
• 12:41
Speaker 1: because the results are positive, and so it's very tricky
• 12:46
Speaker 1: to to give him sound advice certainly. I mean, he
• 12:51
Speaker 1: raises a point that why are you it's a micro
• 12:54
Speaker 1: dose certain drugs, but those drugs are psychedelic drugs, and
• 13:00
Speaker 1: cocaine is like a narcotic. What is it a Class
• 13:05
  Speaker 1: three narcotic? I couldn't tell you. I mean, there's really
• 13:08
Speaker 1: no good argument or science data driven that cocaine it's
• 13:15
  Speaker 1: good for you. I mean, I can't imagine that that's
• 13:18
Speaker 1: an easy feet throughout the day to just be doing
• 13:21
Speaker 1: a line in the bathroom, you know, and it's it's
• 13:24
Speaker 1: dirty and it's gross, and you're snorting it through your nose.
• 13:26
Speaker 1: So like mixing that in the workplace. As much as
• 13:30
Speaker 1: I would like to be an advocate for that, I
• 13:33
Speaker 1: have to say that it's not okay. You're on a
• 13:36
Speaker 1: slippery slope because also you just don't know what kind
• 13:39
Speaker 1: of cocaine you're getting, and whether you like it or
• 13:42
Speaker 1: not doesn't tell you what people are using to put
• 13:45
Speaker 1: in it and cut it with. And like you're polluting
• 13:48
Speaker 1: your body, you know, and you com pollute your body
• 13:50
Speaker 1: in so many other ways that are less legal damaging.
• 13:56
Speaker 1: And as we know, Chelsea believes that your body is
• 13:58
Speaker 1: a temple and it should not be tainted. Your body
• 14:00
Speaker 1: is yeah, exactly, your body is a temple. That's what
• 14:03
Speaker 1: I'm going with. No, no, no, wait, hold on, the
• 14:07
Speaker 1: cocaine used to that degree is not recommended for anyone. Scott.
• 14:13
Speaker 1: You you got to like dial it back and find
• 14:17
Speaker 1: something else that gives you the pep in your step.
• 14:19
Speaker 1: I know, cocaine feels good and you like for the moment.
• 14:22
Speaker 1: It will not last like that, It won't. So this
• 14:26
Speaker 1: is a hard question. So what do you take when
• 14:28
Speaker 1: you need a little perk up? Well, I had to
• 14:30
Speaker 1: take one of my energy drinks, like a five hour energy.
• 14:33
Speaker 1: You love a five hour energy. I don't love it.
• 14:35
  Speaker 1: It's just it's a necessary evil. I don't love the
• 14:38
Speaker 1: way it tastes. I don't love the fact that I
• 14:40
Speaker 1: need it. But you know what, I also like this
• 14:42
Speaker 1: Macha green teath. This guy is not gonna This guy
• 14:45
Speaker 1: is saying much. Saying much. This guy is like saying
• 14:49
Speaker 1: melotoneinto me. You know, it's it's a moot. So do
• 14:52
Speaker 1: try a five hour energy because that does give me
• 14:55
Speaker 1: a jolt. But yeah, lay off the coke at work.
• 15:00
Speaker 1: What would you think if I started to do drugs
• 15:02
Speaker 1: at work? Well, you are doing drugs at work, I presume,
• 15:05
Speaker 1: I mean you take edibles and stuff, don't you. Can
• 15:08
Speaker 1: you imagine if you walked in on me just doing
• 15:10
Speaker 1: coke at the kitchen counter. Honestly, at this point, Brandon,
• 15:13
  Speaker 1: I really just wouldn't. I wouldn't even mind. Like I
• 15:16
Speaker 1: would be like, if that's what you need to do
• 15:17
Speaker 1: to get you through the day, I would be surprised.
• 15:20
Speaker 1: I definitely would be surprised that you were blowing lines
• 15:22
Speaker 1: at the kitchen table. I've never done coke before, but
• 15:25
Speaker 1: I often think that I would like to try because
• 15:27
Speaker 1: i've because I don't think you have the personality for coke. Well,
• 15:30
Speaker 1: and I trust your recommendation. We've had lengthy discussions about
• 15:35
Speaker 1: different drugs and what you'll thrive under, and that is
• 15:38
Speaker 1: not one of them. No. Mushrooms, on the other hand,
• 15:41
Speaker 1: which you introduced me to, have been very positive. Have
• 15:44
Speaker 1: you been doing the chocolate mushrooms lately? Not often, but yeah,
• 15:47
Speaker 1: I keep a chocolate bar in the fridge. Yeah. I
• 15:49
Speaker 1: took a chocolate mushroom the other day and it had
• 15:51
Speaker 1: the adverse effect of putting me in a good mood
• 15:54
Speaker 1: because I was going to work out with Ben Bruno
• 15:56
Speaker 1: and I need something, you know, to do that for
• 15:58
Speaker 1: an hour. It's like I need to be stone loomy, yeah,
• 16:02
Speaker 1: or lobotomy. And so I took a piece of chocolate
• 16:04
Speaker 1: and I went over there, and he was extra annoying
• 16:08
Speaker 1: on that day. Sorry, almost turned my mushroom, it did.
• 16:12
Speaker 1: Even though I can't blame it on someone else, I will.
• 16:15
Speaker 1: It turned my mushroom experience around because Ben, you know,
• 16:20
Speaker 1: he can ruin anything. Yeah, that's like the first time, well,
• 16:22
Speaker 1: first and only time I took Molly. I took it
• 16:24
Speaker 1: and I went to my first like gay warehouse party
• 16:27
Speaker 1: where one's dancing. There's no words in the music which
• 16:29
Speaker 1: is the fucking worst. And I walk in and immediately
• 16:32
Speaker 1: everyone's very touching and feely, and I guess that's what
• 16:35
Speaker 1: Molly is supposed to do. And I was highly irritable,
• 16:37
Speaker 1: like a fourteen out of ten. I walked in. I go,
• 16:39
Speaker 1: first of all, it smells like fucking taco seasoning and
• 16:41
Speaker 1: here everyone has b O. I want to get out.
• 16:43
Speaker 1: And then people come up and they're like rubbing on
• 16:45
Speaker 1: you and they're touching it. I just look this guy
• 16:46
Speaker 1: in the face, I go, do not touch me. I go,
• 16:49
Speaker 1: whatever you're feeling, I'm not feeling feeling. I wish I were,
• 16:51
Speaker 1: because this is so unenjoyable, weird that you had that
• 16:54
Speaker 1: reaction to time. Now I don't feel like I need
• 16:56
Speaker 1: to do it again. But yeah, well yeah that's too bad,
• 16:59
Speaker 1: because as Molly is fun. I did some Molly when
• 17:01
Speaker 1: I was in Canada. It was really fun. You see,
• 17:03
Speaker 1: you always have a good time. I feel like, yeah, well,
• 17:05
Speaker 1: I just set my intention and that's to have a
• 17:08
Speaker 1: good time. Now I'll know for next time. Oh and
• 17:10
Speaker 1: for clarification purposes, we did look it up. Cocaine is
• 17:13
Speaker 1: a level two grade to narcotic, so I misspoke as usual, okay.
• 17:19
Speaker 1: Our next mission comes from Shane. He is thirty years
• 17:21
Speaker 1: old out of California. He writes, Dear Chelsea, I've been
• 17:25
Speaker 1: smoking weed since I was seventeen. I'm almost thirty one,
• 17:28
Speaker 1: and no matter how many times I try and smoke less,
• 17:30
Speaker 1: I fail. Shane, I feel like a month long break
• 17:33
Speaker 1: would benefit me as I don't really get high anymore.
• 17:36
Speaker 1: This sounds just like is this you, sweetheart? Let me see.
• 17:39
Speaker 1: All three of my roommates partakes, so there's always weed
• 17:42
Speaker 1: and bongs, pipes and paraphernalia around the house. What do
• 17:46
Speaker 1: I do? Shane? Shanee? This is a common issue where
• 17:50
Speaker 1: you have sweetheart on the phone because she deals with this. Shane.
• 17:53
Speaker 1: If you're not hi, Shane, how you doing good? How
• 17:56
Speaker 1: are you? I'm good, I'm good. You're so cute? Then
• 18:00
Speaker 1: are you there right now? If you're not getting high,
• 18:05
Speaker 1: you have to take a break. It's the only way
• 18:07
Speaker 1: to get your high back. You have to take a
• 18:08
Speaker 1: month off. So when I was developing this brand of
• 18:11
Speaker 1: weed that I haven't still haven't released yet, they explained
• 18:14
Speaker 1: to me that you can either take a week a
• 18:16
Speaker 1: month off or a month a year off, and that
• 18:19
Speaker 1: is how you maintain the intensity of your highs. So
• 18:23
Speaker 1: I do that. I don't have that. I have done it.
• 18:27
Speaker 1: I have done it and it works. But if you
• 18:29
Speaker 1: really can't get high anymore, you need to take a break.
• 18:31
Speaker 1: I don't know what to tell you about your roommates.
• 18:33
Speaker 1: It's gonna involve some serious world power. I have none.
• 18:37
Speaker 1: What are the repercussions of the Shane? You have a
• 18:41
Speaker 1: terrible memory? Right? Is this correct? You've just spent the
• 18:45
Speaker 1: most crucial years infecting your brain or actually diminishing your
• 18:48
Speaker 1: brain capacity. So yeah, you've got to take a break.
• 18:52
Speaker 1: I agree. I've been smoking since I was seventeen, even
• 18:55
Speaker 1: with my dad as a teenager, so it's like ingrained
• 18:57
Speaker 1: in my DNA at this point. Okay, well quickly, what's
• 19:00
Speaker 1: seventeen times seventeen? Well, I don't know exactly. How's your
• 19:05
Speaker 1: dad doing? How's his mental alacrity? Oh he's way worse
• 19:09
Speaker 1: than I am. Okay, well, you should use that as
• 19:11
Speaker 1: an example of what not to do. Right, that's true.
• 19:14
Speaker 1: But he's also an alcoholic on top of that, so
• 19:15
Speaker 1: he's lost. Well he's doubling down. That's not gonna be
• 19:18
Speaker 1: good for anyone. But there is still time. Are you
• 19:20
Speaker 1: an alcoholic. To Shane, you don't drink. I drink, just
• 19:25
Speaker 1: not to that extent. Okay, So why don't you just
• 19:27
Speaker 1: focus on having a couple of beers here and there
• 19:29
Speaker 1: instead of your weed for a month. I swear if
• 19:31
Speaker 1: you do it, we should incentivize him somehow. There's no
• 19:34
Speaker 1: way to know if he's going to stick with this.
• 19:36
Speaker 1: He is a pothead. He's not gonna remember. First of all,
• 19:39
Speaker 1: I mean, let's hear what the incentive is. I don't know.
• 19:41
Speaker 1: I was just thinking about what we could do to
• 19:42
  Speaker 1: incentivize you. I don't know. I didn't have anything. Because
• 19:45
Speaker 1: if I start giving out prizes to people, then that's
• 19:47
Speaker 1: what this podcast will be about. People will call him
• 19:49
Speaker 1: with fake problems wanting you know. I was going to
• 19:52
Speaker 1: offer you some cash, but I realize I can't do that.
• 19:55
Speaker 1: Well disclaimer, Shane only gets prized, but there is still
• 19:58
Speaker 1: time for you to correct your memory loss. Like there
• 20:01
Speaker 1: are so many apps now that you can download in
• 20:04
Speaker 1: little game and brain teasers, and I do them all
• 20:07
Speaker 1: the time because I feel like you. Granted I don't
• 20:10
Speaker 1: smoke like you, I would assume, but he's not worried
• 20:12
Speaker 1: about that. He's not worried about his brain Aboucity. He's
• 20:14
Speaker 1: worried about actually not getting high anymore. But that's all
• 20:17
Speaker 1: that you're worried about. Then there are then there are
• 20:19
Speaker 1: bigger issues, Shane. I can guarantee you that, Shane without Okay, Well, Shane,
• 20:25
Speaker 1: you're first of all, you're adorable, so you've got that
• 20:27
Speaker 1: going for you. And you called in to get advice,
• 20:30
Speaker 1: so you clearly are serious, right about taking a break
• 20:33
Speaker 1: from weed. What can you do to give your Please
• 20:36
Speaker 1: don't call me ma'am. Okay, that is just not except
• 20:38
Speaker 1: you say ma'am or I am I am? Yeah, great answer.
• 20:42
Speaker 1: So what do you do for work? First of all,
• 20:45
Speaker 1: I work in a a vy warehouse doing shipping receiving
• 20:48
Speaker 1: and like deliveries and stuff, and I often forget to
• 20:52
Speaker 1: bring ship on deliveries, right, your favorite thing. You often
• 20:56
Speaker 1: forget to bring the actual equipment that you're supposed to
• 20:58
Speaker 1: deliver right because Okay, so you need to Okay, so
• 21:01
Speaker 1: you need to think of this as an investment in
• 21:03
Speaker 1: your future. Like if you take this month off really
• 21:07
Speaker 1: seriously and assess your life, and you are cognizant and
• 21:10
Speaker 1: kind of like take the month just to be real
• 21:13
Speaker 1: and present and not escape, like use it as escapism,
• 21:16
Speaker 1: you know, treat yourself to beers here and there. Obviously,
• 21:18
Speaker 1: don't go overboard on that either, because that's not really
• 21:21
Speaker 1: like a detox, but really try and take a month off.
• 21:24
Speaker 1: I honestly think you're going to feel a lot differently
• 21:26
Speaker 1: about pot once you're done with it, and then you'll
• 21:28
Speaker 1: have both things. You'll have a clear sense of like
• 21:30
Speaker 1: what your future is going to hold in a little
• 21:32
Speaker 1: bit more direction, and you'll also be able to get
• 21:35
Speaker 1: stoned a lot more easily. Yes, that sounds great and
• 21:38
Speaker 1: it seems like I already know the answer to this.
• 21:40
Speaker 1: But are there reasons for your habitual use? Like is
• 21:44
Speaker 1: it stress, depression, anxiety? Or are you just doing it
• 21:47
Speaker 1: all the time? Like you couldn't even tell me at
• 21:49
Speaker 1: this point. Who isn't stressed or depressed at this point?
• 21:52
Speaker 1: But it's just always there? Okay, I like go home
• 21:56
Speaker 1: at the end of the day and just get stoned
• 21:57
Speaker 1: and chill in my couch. And are you taking edibles
• 21:59
Speaker 1: at work? Are you stone while you're working? Edibles don't
• 22:02
Speaker 1: even infect me? Yeah, then you're really far gone. Then
• 22:05
Speaker 1: you really need the month. You might need a month
• 22:06
Speaker 1: and a half, but you do. You definitely need to
• 22:09
Speaker 1: get a little bit of a like clear idea of
• 22:12
Speaker 1: when you do it mindlessly like that, then it kind
• 22:14
Speaker 1: of has lost its luster, right Yeah, yeah, I even
• 22:18
Speaker 1: have it right here, right right, So yeah, I wish
• 22:21
Speaker 1: I had it right here. I wonder if there's any
• 22:24
  Speaker 1: I don't know. Okay, well I haven't had I can't
• 22:26
Speaker 1: find any weed. And I know this is a good
• 22:28
Speaker 1: practice for you to. Okay, well i'll do Maybe I'll
• 22:30
Speaker 1: go a month with him. What if I do it
• 22:32
Speaker 1: with you? Will that help you? I think that would. Okay,
• 22:35
Speaker 1: I can commit to a month of no weed, and
• 22:37
Speaker 1: are you Are you guys going to do something in
• 22:39
Speaker 1: its place, because that's what I would think. I'll just exercise, Shane,
• 22:42
Speaker 1: what are you gonna do? We're gonna check in. We
• 22:44
Speaker 1: we need to check in with him a little bit
• 22:45
Speaker 1: more regularly because he's going to have a hard time
• 22:47
Speaker 1: with us. I'm gonna actually, you know what, Shane, I'm
• 22:50
Speaker 1: gonna have a hard time with this too because I
• 22:53
Speaker 1: rely on edibles to go to sleep every night, and
• 22:56
Speaker 1: I'm just gonna take it out of my repertoire for
• 22:58
Speaker 1: one month. Okay, I'll do it. Okay, what's this holiday
• 23:01
Speaker 1: going to be called? Brandon? I don't doomsday for me
• 23:04
Speaker 1: because you but I still have the chocolate mushrooms. Oh great, great, great? Okay,
• 23:09
Speaker 1: so do you need chocolate mushroom, Shane. I actually have
• 23:12
Speaker 1: chocolate mushrooms. Okay, so those are fine during this time, okay, okay,
• 23:17
Speaker 1: like a low dose Shane. Let's so, what's the date.
• 23:20
Speaker 1: We'll just do a month from today, right, okay? Okay, Yeah,
• 23:23
Speaker 1: I'm gonna be talking about this on my Instagram and stuff.
• 23:26
Speaker 1: So watch because I'm not going to fall off the wagon.
• 23:28
Speaker 1: I'm gonna do thirty days. And if you fall off
• 23:30
Speaker 1: the wagon, you need to notify us. I would never
• 23:33
Speaker 1: fall off the wagon. Okay, I told you I'll do
• 23:35
Speaker 1: it all right. Sounds good? Thanks Shane. Thanks Shane. Oh Shane,
• 23:38
Speaker 1: real quick? Actually wait, I hear that you used to
• 23:40
Speaker 1: steal Chelsea's books. Maybe, Shane, are you straight? Uh No,
• 23:45
Speaker 1: I'm queer, okay, I like everybody? Yeah? Good, okay, Well
• 23:49
Speaker 1: then I have a fallow up to that too, So
• 23:50
Speaker 1: I have multiple Now, Shane, what is the difference in
• 23:53
Speaker 1: queer and pan sexual? Would they be one of the same? Yeah,
• 23:58
Speaker 1: at least I mean everybody's because it's like you can
• 24:00
Speaker 1: fall in love with anyone regarding their gender and what
• 24:03
Speaker 1: they were biologically at birth. Right, Yeah, okay, I'll never
• 24:08
Speaker 1: I'll never understand. Well, that doesn't work out because you're
• 24:11
Speaker 1: you're gay and you need to know these things. For me,
• 24:14
Speaker 1: there's a lot to keep up with. It's hard to
• 24:16
Speaker 1: understand it all. Yeah, seriously, Well that's what Shane's here
• 24:19
Speaker 1: for apparently, and what's the deal with the book? By
• 24:22
Speaker 1: the way, that also, you know your seman count Shane also,
• 24:24
Speaker 1: if you want to have children one day, is deeply
• 24:27
Speaker 1: affected by marijuana abuse at that age. Here's the thing.
• 24:30
Speaker 1: I'm trance, so I don't have any human all right,
• 24:33
Speaker 1: Well there there you go. Well, no, wonder why you're
• 24:37
Speaker 1: so cute. Did you seal every book? Was this a
• 24:39
Speaker 1: one off situation? No, it was just two and they
• 24:42
Speaker 1: were used, so it was like not full price, so
• 24:47
Speaker 1: really you were doing them a service. Anyways, I would
• 24:48
Speaker 1: encourage anybody who can steal any of my books to
• 24:51
Speaker 1: do so. They were great. That's good. I'm glad. I'm
• 24:54
Speaker 1: glad that's what they're there for your enjoyment. Yeah. I
• 24:57
Speaker 1: used to sit in them all and read them during
• 24:59
Speaker 1: during much. I love that. Keep us posted. We're going
• 25:02
Speaker 1: to check in. We'll figure out a time to get
• 25:03
Speaker 1: you back on Okay, alright, Shane, good luck, good luck? Okay,
• 25:07
Speaker 1: together together, we're doing it. By Shane. Bye. There is
• 25:13
Speaker 1: no fucking way that I'm going thirty days without a
• 25:17
Speaker 1: fucking a chance. But I just made that promise to him.
• 25:20
Speaker 1: I know, sweetheart, but things happen. I know. But I
• 25:23
Speaker 1: what about the next caller that I make a promise too.
• 25:25
Speaker 1: We have to well, if it's not weed related, I
• 25:27
Speaker 1: would have much more faith in you. Okay, But okay,
• 25:33
Speaker 1: I'm just thinking if I want to follow through on
• 25:35
Speaker 1: my word, you could, Shane, I could do thirty days
• 25:39
Speaker 1: without pot and see what happens. What did you feel
• 25:42
Speaker 1: like happened after your binge at the beginning of the
• 25:46
Speaker 1: pandemic and your time and whistler? Because you have pretty
• 25:48
Speaker 1: consistent use throughout the day most days, right, I think
• 25:52
Speaker 1: there are times where I find myself to be extra stupid.
• 25:56
Speaker 1: That's what I'm really bored, and I smoke pot like
• 26:00
Speaker 1: I don't. This is why it's going to be good
• 26:01
Speaker 1: for me to take a month offt You need to
• 26:02
Speaker 1: do this, Actually, It's also that I'm easily influenced, and
• 26:06
Speaker 1: I'm also don't remember things well, you simultaneously remember everything. Oh. Also,
• 26:12
Speaker 1: the time that I took a picture I was in
• 26:13
Speaker 1: someone's car and whistler, and I said, I really liked
• 26:15
Speaker 1: this car and sent the video to Brandon and he
• 26:17
Speaker 1: told me you already have this car, and most recently
• 26:20
  Speaker 1: this weekend. I wasn't gonna say anything, but it's a
• 26:22
Speaker 1: perfect segway. Here is you were looking for joints and
• 26:26
Speaker 1: I had told you where they were hours prior, and
• 26:30
Speaker 1: you had gone to look for them. And I know
• 26:31
Speaker 1: this because we were on Marco Polo And then you
• 26:34
Speaker 1: had said, sweetheart, where are the joints? And I told
• 26:36
  Speaker 1: you again, and I said, I don't know if there's
• 26:38
Speaker 1: going to be enough left. You said, oh, I've not
• 26:40
Speaker 1: ever looked for them, so I'm sure that it's fully stocked.
• 26:43
Speaker 1: Mind you, you had just done it hours before, so
• 26:45
Speaker 1: it's probably time the test, sweetheart. Okay, Okay, then, well,
• 26:51
Speaker 1: so our next mission comes from Robin. She lives in
• 26:54
Speaker 1: Costa Rica. She's in her thirties, and nobody lives in Darika,
• 27:00
Speaker 1: who doesn't serve. She writes, dear, Chelsea. I went from
• 27:03
Speaker 1: a peace loving yoga teacher to a raging maniac. Help.
• 27:06
Speaker 1: I was sober and single my entire twenties as an
• 27:09
Speaker 1: no mind altering substances except for an occasional spliff and
• 27:12
Speaker 1: yearly Ayahwaska retreats. Oh Special, Maybe I know her desperate
• 27:17
Speaker 1: to find love. In my thirties, I went into two
• 27:19
Speaker 1: consecutive relationships that may or may not have been with
• 27:21
Speaker 1: narcissistic and manipulative men. Well they basically all are who
• 27:25
Speaker 1: are both drug addicts. I developed a very meaningful relationship
• 27:28
Speaker 1: with ketamine, like very meaningful, like I would roll out
• 27:31
Speaker 1: of bed and wake up with a line and sometimes
• 27:35
Speaker 1: a line and a homemade kombucha champagne cocktail for months.
• 27:38
Speaker 1: This is my question. If I have to do ketamine
• 27:41
Speaker 1: all day, every day and occasionally drink in order to
• 27:43
Speaker 1: tolerate the relationship I'm in, how much longer should I
• 27:46
Speaker 1: stay in said relationship? I know it seems like there
• 27:50
Speaker 1: is an obvious answer to this question, but I am guessing.
• 27:53
Speaker 1: I'm asking sincerely because it seems like the only other
• 27:55
Speaker 1: options are one to be with someone who will literally
• 27:58
Speaker 1: bore me to death, or two you with someone who
• 28:00
Speaker 1: will annoy me to death? Did you write this? I know?
• 28:04
Speaker 1: I was like, listen to how you can't get away
• 28:06
Speaker 1: from people annoying you. You just have to learn how
• 28:08
Speaker 1: to cope with it. But not like this. Well, she
• 28:10
Speaker 1: finishes off. I guess I mostly just feel like the
• 28:12
Speaker 1: same thing will just keep happening, so it's not just
• 28:15
Speaker 1: tough a out and it will eventually get better. Robin,
• 28:18
Speaker 1: what's the ps oh, she says. Ps I'm actually in
• 28:20
Speaker 1: Costa Rica right now and have been sober for over
• 28:22
Speaker 1: a month. But I don't necessarily want to be hell O,
• 28:25
Speaker 1: L I do feel good, though this really seems like
• 28:28
Speaker 1: a letter you would write. Well, yeah, if I were
• 28:30
Speaker 1: snorting ketamine every morning, Okay, Robin, I mean, Robin, you
• 28:36
Speaker 1: have to stop snorting kennemine. That's snorting anything is not good.
• 28:41
Speaker 1: And this is coming from somebody who has snorted lots
• 28:43
Speaker 1: of things. Don't snort ketamine. Please please do it for me.
• 28:48
Speaker 1: And if you have to do any of these things
• 28:50
Speaker 1: to be in a relationship, then these people are fucking
• 28:53
Speaker 1: idiots and you can't be around them. You can't drug
• 28:56
Speaker 1: yourself in order to tolerate people. Drugs should be an
• 28:59
Speaker 1: enhanced or is what I've what I've realized, your sweetheart,
• 29:01
Speaker 1: that it should just boost things. You shouldn't take them
• 29:04
Speaker 1: to cope with things. Right, right, And let me be clear,
• 29:08
Speaker 1: because I talk about my use of cannabis a lot
• 29:10
Speaker 1: as a coping mechanism, and this is true. I do.
• 29:13
Speaker 1: I do use cannabis as a coping mechanism, and I have.
• 29:17
Speaker 1: But I've also realized that he that's not the main
• 29:21
Speaker 1: reason I do use it, and I tried never to
• 29:23
Speaker 1: use it to cope with someone. I try not to
• 29:25
Speaker 1: have it as the reason have someone as the reason
• 29:28
Speaker 1: that I need to smoke a joint or take an edible.
• 29:31
Speaker 1: You have to change your perspective about that. Right, you
• 29:33
Speaker 1: should be able. You just said you're feeling good. You've
• 29:35
Speaker 1: been sober for a month, and you're feeling good that
• 29:38
Speaker 1: the proof is in the pudding. Like you, You just
• 29:40
Speaker 1: showed yourself that you don't have to operate in that way.
• 29:44
Speaker 1: All of these things will end up in flames. Dating
• 29:48
Speaker 1: any drug addict is going to end badly unless that
• 29:51
Speaker 1: person is working very hard to get sober. And you
• 29:54
Speaker 1: don't need to date a drug addict. There are plenty
• 29:56
Speaker 1: of options for you. To date people that are not
• 29:59
Speaker 1: drug addicts. And the other option is for you to
• 30:01
Speaker 1: remain alone and actually do some like soul searching and
• 30:05
Speaker 1: inner work so that you're not going to find yourself
• 30:07
Speaker 1: in a situation like this. Again, sweetheart, do you need
• 30:10
Speaker 1: to weigh in? I just think that that was beautifully said.
• 30:13
Speaker 1: I don't know that there's ever an appropriate time to
• 30:16
Speaker 1: take drugs to manage your relationship. I think that that's
• 30:20
Speaker 1: and stop snorting things. No snorting, no snorting. I wish
• 30:25
  Speaker 1: I could, I wish I could. I wish I could
• 30:26
Speaker 1: make a snorting now noise. Now's with my note now Schnauzer,
• 30:32
Speaker 1: there you go, Thank you, sweetheart. Welcome Please, Robin, just
• 30:35
Speaker 1: for me, stop that be alone. Why don't you give
• 30:38
Speaker 1: yourself three months to be alone and be sober, and
• 30:41
Speaker 1: I bet you at the end of that you're gonna
• 30:43
Speaker 1: have a lot of different thoughts than you do right now. Okay,
• 30:45
Speaker 1: So our next mission comes from Confused in California, thirty
• 30:49
Speaker 1: years old. They write, Dear Chelsea, I need some advice
• 30:53
Speaker 1: with a friend who's struggling with sobriety. My childhood best
• 30:55
Speaker 1: friend has recently acknowledged that she's an alcoholic. I live
• 30:58
Speaker 1: here in California and she lives in Rhode Island. I
• 31:00
Speaker 1: told her, I'm so proud of you. I support you.
• 31:02
Speaker 1: I will do anything to help you. I researched counseling
• 31:05
Speaker 1: services and resources for her to start her sober journey,
• 31:09
Speaker 1: and checked in with her frequently on her progress. This
• 31:12
Speaker 1: enlightened moment was unfortunately short lived, as it quickly turned
• 31:15
Speaker 1: into an oh, just one glass of wine tonight, or
• 31:17
Speaker 1: I won't drink the entire bottle. Not today, Katie, I
• 31:20
Speaker 1: need to relax. I'm trying to remain positive and supportive,
• 31:24
Speaker 1: but I'm frustrated that I'm going to have to watch
• 31:26
Speaker 1: my friends slam into rock bottom? Do I need therapy?
• 31:29
Speaker 1: Do I need to cut her out of my life?
• 31:30
Speaker 1: And I am enabler? Am I annoying? I'm so freaked
• 31:33
Speaker 1: out that the next phone call I have with her
• 31:35
Speaker 1: will be the last. Any advice or compassion on the
• 31:39
Speaker 1: issue would be a huge breath of relief. Hi Anonymous,
• 31:43
Speaker 1: Hi Chelsea, Hi Brandon, Hi, Hi, thanks for writing in
• 31:48
Speaker 1: so How short lived was your friend's sobriety? Well, it's
• 31:53
Speaker 1: back and forth, and it's new, it's fresh. Um, I
• 31:56
Speaker 1: think this is her first time really acknowledging that there's
• 32:00
Speaker 1: a bigger issue that she wants to focus on. Since
• 32:04
Speaker 1: I wrote in, she has been making some big strides
• 32:07
Speaker 1: and some big steps on trying to find help and
• 32:11
Speaker 1: support and therapy. But I think really unfortunately in this country,
• 32:15
Speaker 1: mental health help can be so hard to find, especially
• 32:20
Speaker 1: if you don't have insurance or you don't have the
• 32:22
Speaker 1: right insurance. So she's trying, and I'm trying to help her,
• 32:26
Speaker 1: but still new and fresh. Yeah, so you seem like
• 32:31
Speaker 1: a really good friend a So there's that to be
• 32:34
Speaker 1: grateful for and proud of, right, thank you? Yeah, Yeah,
• 32:38
Speaker 1: I've had this experience. I was just with a friend
• 32:40
Speaker 1: this morning who recently got sober, well like you know,
• 32:43
Speaker 1: six months ago, but she went to rehab. There was
• 32:46
Speaker 1: a big intervention. I had told her myself that there
• 32:49
Speaker 1: was a problem, and then she had a big intervention
• 32:51
Speaker 1: and that's when she went to rehab and she came
• 32:53
Speaker 1: out and she is living the high life. She's like,
• 32:56
Speaker 1: this is the best adventure I've ever been on. Is sobriety.
• 32:59
Speaker 1: So there is hope for all of these people, you know,
• 33:02
Speaker 1: So don't ever give up on people. First of all,
• 33:04
Speaker 1: because people do change just when you least expect it.
• 33:06
Speaker 1: Sometimes they change, you know, when they hit their rock bottom.
• 33:10
Speaker 1: Some people don't need to hit a rock bottom. So
• 33:12
Speaker 1: first and foremost, there are tools for you to know about. Oh,
• 33:16
Speaker 1: oh my god, this book that's sitting right here, Set Boundaries,
• 33:20
Speaker 1: Find Peace, A Guide to reclaiming Yourself. Look at this book.
• 33:24
Speaker 1: I just picked this up because it was about codependence
• 33:26
Speaker 1: and counterdependence and it really expliccause I'm like, oh, I'm
• 33:29
Speaker 1: not codependent. And it's like, well, when you enable somebody
• 33:32
Speaker 1: and you make their problems your problems, and you talk
• 33:36
Speaker 1: about their problems like they're your problems, that is codependent.
• 33:40
Speaker 1: That's huge codependent. I think I suffer from counter dependency,
• 33:43
Speaker 1: which will get into later because this isn't really about
• 33:46
Speaker 1: me right now. Sometimes I forget. But you don't want
• 33:49
Speaker 1: to be a codependent friend, right You don't want to
• 33:51
Speaker 1: enable her, but you do want to be supportive of her,
• 33:54
Speaker 1: and so that if she does make a mistake, there's
• 33:57
Speaker 1: not anything punitive from you as a friend. It's like, oh, okay,
• 34:01
Speaker 1: we had to slip up. Well, I guess we as
• 34:03
Speaker 1: probably codependent too, right, but like you had to slip
• 34:07
Speaker 1: up that's okay, it's not the end of the world.
• 34:10
Speaker 1: I'm still here for you. And it's like, like you're
• 34:13
Speaker 1: a team member for her, right, you know you want
• 34:16
Speaker 1: to act like that, like she can rely on you.
• 34:18
Speaker 1: I have that with my friends. It's so important for
• 34:20
Speaker 1: me to be the reliable one, Like I want to
• 34:22
Speaker 1: do what I say and say what I do and
• 34:24
Speaker 1: show up. So I get that. But what's the latest
• 34:28
Speaker 1: with her? What have the last few weeks been? Like, Well,
• 34:31
Speaker 1: I think she's at the point where she's ready to
• 34:36
Speaker 1: get into treatment and she's ready to find the support
• 34:39
Speaker 1: that she needs. But I think she's still in that
• 34:42
Speaker 1: realization of, Oh, I can't have a glass of wine
• 34:45
Speaker 1: on Friday. Oh I have to tell people I can't
• 34:48
Speaker 1: have champagne at their wedding. I have to I can't.
• 34:51
Speaker 1: You know, it's a social thing that she's starting to realize,
• 34:54
Speaker 1: which you're right, I'm probably codependent of like no one cares.
• 34:58
Speaker 1: It's just me. I love you, and I'm like hyper
• 35:01
Speaker 1: positive and I just don't want to be like annoying.
• 35:04
Speaker 1: Like I can imagine somebody that's having those realizations of
• 35:09
Speaker 1: you know, this is something I'm going to have to
• 35:11
Speaker 1: deal with the rest of my life. I'm like, nah, girl,
• 35:13
Speaker 1: you're good. Shut up. This isn't about you. So I
• 35:16
Speaker 1: think I just I think that's really helpful to hear.
• 35:19
Speaker 1: Is maybe I never realized I was codependent on her.
• 35:23
Speaker 1: Is a part of my personality of trying to help
• 35:27
Speaker 1: is I need to step back and let her take charge.
• 35:32
Speaker 1: Well yeah, and you can be like a ballast of
• 35:34
Speaker 1: support for her, you know, but you are not her, right,
• 35:38
Speaker 1: So that's a good reminder and you don't want to play.
• 35:40
Speaker 1: You should pick up this book though, because it's really
• 35:42
Speaker 1: about like all that kind of stuff. And I was
• 35:44
Speaker 1: reading and I was like, oh my god, this is
• 35:45
Speaker 1: so good for me to read again. It's called Set Boundaries,
• 35:48
  Speaker 1: Fine Piece by Nedra Glover tawab t A w w
• 35:52
Speaker 1: A B. Anyway, the other thing that is helpful that
• 35:56
Speaker 1: I learned from one of my friends who got sober
• 35:59
Speaker 1: was to not make it a permanent thing, to not
• 36:02
Speaker 1: think of it as a permanent thing, to not think
• 36:05
Speaker 1: of it as I can never have a drink again,
• 36:07
Speaker 1: you know. I mean, it's like kind of like what
• 36:09
Speaker 1: they do in a a which is, you know, take
• 36:11
Speaker 1: it one day at a time. But there's a permanence.
• 36:13
Speaker 1: When people say like I can never have sugar again,
• 36:17
Speaker 1: or I can never have a cigarette again. You know,
• 36:21
Speaker 1: hopefully that's you don't ever have another cigarette. But I
• 36:24
Speaker 1: don't even think you smoke, So I don't, but she does,
• 36:27
Speaker 1: and you know that's like so I'm like, all right,
• 36:30
Speaker 1: we gotta really balance our our demons here. And I
• 36:34
Speaker 1: guess cigarettes. You know. That's the thing too, is there's
• 36:37
Speaker 1: a lot of things that I don't do that I'm like, oh,
• 36:40
Speaker 1: it's trying to stop, you know, And that's the opposite
• 36:44
Speaker 1: of what people in her situation want to hear. So
• 36:48
Speaker 1: I think you're right. Is as much as I can
• 36:50
Speaker 1: just be that support and be like, it's maybe it's
• 36:53
Speaker 1: not permanent. I just I wonder too. This is kind
• 36:56
Speaker 1: of a hot topic of conversation because we live in California,
• 37:00
Speaker 1: the idea of California sober I've heard that a lot recently,
• 37:04
Speaker 1: and and it's something that her and I talk about,
• 37:07
Speaker 1: is do you cut out you know, what the substance
• 37:11
Speaker 1: is that you feel that you're addicted to, or are
• 37:13
Speaker 1: things like weed and cigarettes? Are those still okay? Yeah?
• 37:17
Speaker 1: And I think that's you know, that's obviously going to
• 37:19
Speaker 1: be a personal choice for her, but like if she
• 37:21
Speaker 1: has an addiction problem, it's great to cut everything out
• 37:23
Speaker 1: for a period of time and then recalibrate, right and
• 37:26
Speaker 1: you know, when she's going to a wedding or she's
• 37:28
Speaker 1: going to event, she doesn't, you know, if she has
• 37:30
Speaker 1: to tell if somebody she's not drinking. She just said
• 37:32
Speaker 1: I'm not drinking right now. I'm not drinking right now.
• 37:35
Speaker 1: And that's much less of a big deal than saying
• 37:37
Speaker 1: I'm sober or I'm not drinking again, you know what
• 37:40
Speaker 1: I mean. It takes the drama out of it. So
• 37:42
Speaker 1: maybe you can help her reframe that in her mind
• 37:45
Speaker 1: as well. Yeah, I think I think it's all fear,
• 37:49
Speaker 1: which is totally normal. You know. I think at thirty,
• 37:53
Speaker 1: we're at the point where it's like we can go
• 37:56
Speaker 1: on vacation and get crazy, but you can't do that
• 38:00
Speaker 1: on a Tuesday at eight am. I think that finally
• 38:03
Speaker 1: was the point that she got to of like, oh
• 38:06
Speaker 1: my other friends aren't doing this, or you know, we're
• 38:09
Speaker 1: not on vacation. I shouldn't be, you know, drinking this
• 38:12
Speaker 1: earlier all day every day. So it's it's such a
• 38:16
Speaker 1: learning curve that I don't know if as a kid,
• 38:19
Speaker 1: I saw this happening for our relationship. But I'm just
• 38:23
Speaker 1: happy she's okay and wants to take these steps and
• 38:25
Speaker 1: we're able to get advice from people like you and
• 38:28
Speaker 1: other professionals that that know what they're talking about because
• 38:33
Speaker 1: it's so sensitive and it's so layered. Yeah, well, she's
• 38:36
Speaker 1: lucky to have your friend like you that cares enough
• 38:38
Speaker 1: to call it about this, you know. So that's really nice.
• 38:41
Speaker 1: And we will keep your anonymity because you requested that,
• 38:45
Speaker 1: and I mean that's really good. And all you can
• 38:47
Speaker 1: do is just show up for her and be supportive,
• 38:49
Speaker 1: and if she does slip up, you know, that's not
• 38:51
Speaker 1: the end of the world either. It's just a little
• 38:53
Speaker 1: mistake and it's a little blip, and you know, you
• 38:55
Speaker 1: got to look at the bigger picture and where she's
• 38:57
Speaker 1: headed in that direction and just try and help support
• 39:00
Speaker 1: that movement. Definitely, And I'm definitely going to get that book, Okay. Yeah,
• 39:06
Speaker 1: I'm always on a book book tour, so I love
• 39:09
Speaker 1: and I love your books too, They're so great. And
• 39:13
Speaker 1: you even though I know you said, like in your
• 39:15
Speaker 1: podcast before, like I'm not a doctor, but you know,
• 39:18
Speaker 1: just hearing someone with such experience and growth is so helpful. Well,
• 39:25
Speaker 1: thank you for calling in, Brandon. Did you want to
• 39:27
Speaker 1: say any fucking thing? It was very It was very
• 39:30
Speaker 1: it's falling in love. It was very eloquently put. The
• 39:33
Speaker 1: only thing that I would add is that I've had
• 39:35
Speaker 1: to learn this the hard way. But support does not
• 39:37
Speaker 1: have to be up close and personal. You can you
• 39:39
Speaker 1: can support people from afar sometimes and that's what they
• 39:43
Speaker 1: need as well. So I know it seems that in
• 39:45
Speaker 1: those moments you need to really be there by their side,
• 39:48
Speaker 1: but it can almost be overwhelming, I think to a
• 39:50
Speaker 1: certain degree. So just letting them know acknowledging that you're
• 39:53
Speaker 1: there and that if they need anything you are happy
• 39:56
Speaker 1: to support however you can. But it doesn't have to
• 39:59
Speaker 1: be consistent, ay check ins. It doesn't have to be
• 40:01
Speaker 1: holding them accountable like they have to do that themselves
• 40:04
Speaker 1: as well. So I think just you know, as she
• 40:06
Speaker 1: kind of embarks on this and you're along for the ride,
• 40:10
Speaker 1: you have to remember it's her ride, like you're just
• 40:12
Speaker 1: in the car, So kind of let her lead the way,
• 40:14
Speaker 1: but be there how you can. And yeah, I think
• 40:17
Speaker 1: that you're doing all the right things. You're posing the
• 40:19
Speaker 1: right questions. Again, like Chelsea said, she's really lucky to
• 40:22
Speaker 1: have you in her corner to support, So it's just
• 40:24
Speaker 1: kind of rethinking about how you're doing that. And to
• 40:28
Speaker 1: Chelsea's point, the one last thing that I would say
• 40:31
Speaker 1: is she can take back the purpose of this and
• 40:35
Speaker 1: she can change the verbage instead of saying like I
• 40:39
  Speaker 1: can't have this, I don't want it, Like you don't
• 40:41
Speaker 1: want to be drunk at nine am as a third
• 40:44
Speaker 1: year old. So even in that way, like I have
• 40:47
Speaker 1: to remind myself, I don't want fifty five popped hearts
• 40:50
Speaker 1: a day. I would like them sometimes, but like I
• 40:53
Speaker 1: don't want that, like I want to be better and healthier,
• 40:55
Speaker 1: and she does too. So even reframing those little words
• 40:59
Speaker 1: instead of I I don't want, because then it's your choice,
• 41:01
Speaker 1: it's not something that's being chosen for you. Definitely, I
• 41:04
Speaker 1: love that analogy of being in the car. I'm in
• 41:06
Speaker 1: the car, I've got my seatbelts on and I'm just
• 41:08
Speaker 1: trying not to jump out. I just I want to
• 41:11
Speaker 1: be there and maybe in the back seat, like maybe
• 41:14
Speaker 1: I'm just you know, in my car seat in the back. Yeah,
• 41:17
Speaker 1: you have your headphones on, your not backseat driving you're
• 41:19
Speaker 1: just there. Well, you do want to have an air bag,
• 41:21
Speaker 1: so you might want to sit up front. Good boy,
• 41:25
Speaker 1: that's a good point. Definitely, Well, thank you so much.
• 41:28
Speaker 1: Let us know how it goes. Keep us posted on
• 41:30
Speaker 1: her posted. I definitely will for sure and all her
• 41:34
Speaker 1: her success and her struggles. Thank you guys so much.
• 41:36
Speaker 1: I really appreciate it. Have a good day by you too.
• 41:40
Speaker 1: By What are your thoughts on that? My thoughts on
• 41:43
Speaker 1: that are that I just love all of our callers.
• 41:47
Speaker 1: I can't believe how normal and cool everyone has been.
• 41:51
Speaker 1: Every single time we get on the phone, I'm like
• 41:53
Speaker 1: impressed by the person. Do you know how nice that is?
• 41:56
Speaker 1: It's shocking, honestly because most people, all these people seem
• 41:59
Speaker 1: so great it and like they would have good, you know,
• 42:01
Speaker 1: social skills out in the real world, but then you
• 42:04
Speaker 1: interact with people outside of the studio and that's not
• 42:07
Speaker 1: the case. So this is a good time to bring
• 42:10
Speaker 1: in Demi Lovato, who just came out as non binary.
• 42:13
Speaker 1: So congratulations for coming out as non binary, because that
• 42:16
Speaker 1: is a very difficult thing to do. Demi has a
• 42:19
Speaker 1: lot of experience in talking about addiction. They have their
• 42:22
Speaker 1: own personal experience with addiction. So I think they will
• 42:25
Speaker 1: be able to contribute to this conversation in a way
• 42:27
Speaker 1: that you are. I may not be. There's nothing more
• 42:32
Speaker 1: enticing about a person endearing than authenticity in their flaws
• 42:39
Speaker 1: or their errors, because you know, what you get is
• 42:42
Speaker 1: what you see. Yeah, Okay, hi, Demi, Hi, but that
• 42:45
Speaker 1: was so nice. You're so sweet. Well, Brandon, I'm not
• 42:49
Speaker 1: really that sweet. It looks so you look so cutey.
• 42:53
Speaker 1: Thank you got dressed up just for y'all. I'll look
• 42:56
Speaker 1: at that. Your outfit matches your lamp. Look what you
• 42:58
Speaker 1: did color coordinating. It's a very tired eye, look Sudhart.
• 43:03
Speaker 1: They're busting out of their shirt, just like you do
• 43:05
Speaker 1: in front of me every day. Sweetheart. I'm just trying
• 43:08
Speaker 1: to thank you, thank you for noticing. Actually, well I'm gay,
• 43:11
Speaker 1: but as you know, I immediately look at someone's chest
• 43:14
Speaker 1: just to see what's going on. Only gay men can
• 43:17
Speaker 1: say that now, or can they actually? Who fucking no,
• 43:21
  Speaker 1: don't know. I probably shouldn't know. You shouldn't we take
• 43:23
Speaker 1: it back? I know. So you're welcome to all the
• 43:25
Speaker 1: straight men. Okay, So, de mean, we needed your input
• 43:30
Speaker 1: on a couple of callers we've had in so we
• 43:33
Speaker 1: know these are areas that you kind of have been
• 43:35
Speaker 1: really public about, so we would love your feedback. What
• 43:37
Speaker 1: is the first one, sweetheart? Well, so, the first one
• 43:39
Speaker 1: is someone wrote in about a friend who is slipping
• 43:43
Speaker 1: off of the wagon. So I think they're just having
• 43:44
Speaker 1: a little difficulty on their journey through sobriety. And in
• 43:48
Speaker 1: your experience of going through sobriety a couple of times
• 43:52
Speaker 1: and knowing that it's a process that there's no one
• 43:55
Speaker 1: track for each person, how do you think people can
• 43:58
Speaker 1: be there to support someone who is trying you stay sober.
• 44:01
Speaker 1: I think the best way to handle any situation when
• 44:06
Speaker 1: it comes to helping someone through an addiction is having
• 44:13
Speaker 1: compassion for that person, knowing that that addiction is stemming
• 44:17
Speaker 1: from a place of pain, and so therefore when that
• 44:22
Speaker 1: person is acting out in their addiction, they're hurting. You know,
• 44:26
Speaker 1: nobody ever acts out in an addiction out of joy,
• 44:31
Speaker 1: and so I always just try to remember that, Like,
• 44:34
Speaker 1: if this was a friend of mine falling off the wagon,
• 44:37
Speaker 1: I would have compassion for them. I would absolutely let
• 44:41
Speaker 1: them know that I was there for them. But that
• 44:44
Speaker 1: it's tricky because for me, I can't be around people
• 44:49
Speaker 1: that are actively using things that either I used to
• 44:53
Speaker 1: like or just things that are dangerous. I don't like
• 44:56
Speaker 1: watching my friends put themselves in situations that are harm
• 45:00
  Speaker 1: full because of I too, I've I've lost a lot
• 45:02
Speaker 1: of people, and so I set a strong boundary with
• 45:06
Speaker 1: those people while also telling them if you need help,
• 45:10
Speaker 1: If you want help, I'm here for you. I love you,
• 45:14
Speaker 1: and I'm here for you. I can't sit by and
• 45:16
Speaker 1: watch this happen to you. I'm not abandoning you. I'm here,
• 45:22
Speaker 1: but I can't sit by and watch. And so when
• 45:26
Speaker 1: you're ready to get the help that you need, I'll
• 45:29
Speaker 1: be there for you and whatever capacity you need me to,
• 45:32
Speaker 1: whether that's calling the rehab and getting you set up
• 45:36
Speaker 1: there or taking you to a meeting or whatever it is. Like,
• 45:40
Speaker 1: I think compassion is key. What's your take on tough
• 45:43
Speaker 1: love in that situation? Does it work? I think, like
• 45:46
Speaker 1: you said, it's it's different for every person, and so
• 45:50
Speaker 1: tough love may work on some people. It did not
• 45:53
Speaker 1: work on me. Tough love to me felt like these
• 45:57
Speaker 1: people are leaving me once again. Kind of fueled the fire.
• 46:01
Speaker 1: And so that's why I stress compassion so much when
• 46:05
Speaker 1: talking about people in their addictions because it's like they're
• 46:09
Speaker 1: obviously going through something. And so when someone says I'm leaving,
• 46:13
Speaker 1: I'm out of here, tough love whatever, you know, that
• 46:15
Speaker 1: made me go more inward and that made me actually
• 46:17
Speaker 1: act out more. And so I air on the side
• 46:21
Speaker 1: of caution when telling people to have tough love. You know,
• 46:23
Speaker 1: it's it's important to stay completely transparent and honest. You
• 46:27
Speaker 1: can totally do that. But I think in the same
• 46:31
Speaker 1: way that I don't do well with a trainer that
• 46:33
Speaker 1: yells mean things that made when I'm working out like
• 46:37
Speaker 1: I'm going to do better when I have a trainer
• 46:38
Speaker 1: that's like, hey, you're killing it, keep going like or
• 46:43
Speaker 1: I know this is hard right now, but you can
• 46:45
Speaker 1: do this. You know. It's like it's stuff like that
• 46:48
Speaker 1: that helps push me to the other side of the
• 46:50
Speaker 1: finish line. And it might actually be the wrong thing
• 46:54
Speaker 1: to say to someone, and you can't take it back,
• 46:58
Speaker 1: you know. That's the tricky part about tough love. So
• 47:01
Speaker 1: once you go past that line, you kind of can't
• 47:04
Speaker 1: reel it in because they've already heard the toughness. Yeah, yeah,
• 47:08
Speaker 1: which is my specialty. So I'm glad that we got
• 47:10
Speaker 1: your point of view on that for sure, because you
• 47:13
Speaker 1: speak from experience, which is better than no experience at all.
• 47:16
Speaker 1: And I haven't had to get that kind of tough love,
• 47:19
  Speaker 1: so I yeah, So I'm glad I didn't give advice
• 47:22
Speaker 1: on that and we had. It's interesting to hear because
• 47:25
Speaker 1: my mom is currently going through an issue with her sobriety.
• 47:28
Speaker 1: So she's an alcoholic, she was sober for a chunk
• 47:30
Speaker 1: of time. She's no longer sober. She actually may be
• 47:32
Speaker 1: sober right now. It's a little touch and go. But
• 47:35
Speaker 1: for me, my stance has always been you have to
• 47:37
Speaker 1: be sober for yourself. So as much as I wanted
• 47:39
Speaker 1: to be there to support her, I didn't want her
• 47:43
Speaker 1: kids to be the reason she stayed sober. So what
• 47:46
Speaker 1: about family members who have someone who's going through this
• 47:48
Speaker 1: and they want to be supportive but also want to
• 47:51
Speaker 1: set up positioning where you have to be sober for yourself.
• 47:54
Speaker 1: It has to be something you want because then there's
• 47:57
Speaker 1: a pressure to those around you to help them maintain
• 48:00
Speaker 1: hang their sobriety, and a responsibility like if we do something,
• 48:04
Speaker 1: we could be harming your path of sobriety, right, you know.
• 48:09
Speaker 1: I think that's why if you always act out of
• 48:11
Speaker 1: a place of compassion. You can't go wrong. I think
• 48:14
Speaker 1: that when having empathy for people, no one's going to
• 48:19
Speaker 1: take that the wrong way. You know, it's it's you're
• 48:22
Speaker 1: showing love, You're showing grace and mercy. I think that
• 48:26
Speaker 1: having the understanding that, like we've kind of been taught
• 48:30
Speaker 1: through the Book of Alcoholics Anonymous for almost a hundred
• 48:34
Speaker 1: years now, that that is the only way right. And
• 48:39
Speaker 1: and not to say anything bad about a A by
• 48:42
Speaker 1: any means, it's just it's almost a hundred years old.
• 48:44
Speaker 1: And so with the way that things progress over time,
• 48:48
Speaker 1: there starts to become different solutions for different people. And
• 48:52
Speaker 1: so it's it's no longer a one size fits all solution.
• 48:55
Speaker 1: What if your mom decides that she doesn't want to
• 48:59
Speaker 1: be sober and she's able to manage it, you know,
• 49:05
Speaker 1: it just we don't know what the future holds. And
• 49:07
Speaker 1: so I think being mindful of like it always has
• 49:11
Speaker 1: to come from a place of that person wanting to
• 49:15
Speaker 1: be sober. If they don't want to be sober, they're
• 49:17
Speaker 1: not going to stay sober. They're always gonna wonder and
• 49:20
Speaker 1: if and it just it's one vulnerable moment I had
• 49:23
Speaker 1: but I think that's true what you're saying, Like, you know,
• 49:26
  Speaker 1: a A isn't for everybody. I had a friend who
• 49:27
Speaker 1: got sober and he didn't do it through a he
• 49:29
Speaker 1: didn't go to rehab. He was like, this sounds all.
• 49:32
Speaker 1: He got ketamine treatments and he just stopped one day
• 49:35
Speaker 1: and then he would drink when he was on vacation,
• 49:37
Speaker 1: but not drink when he was here, and then he
• 49:39
Speaker 1: just stopped and it's been like two years since he's
• 49:41
Speaker 1: had a drink. And he was like, listen, a A
• 49:43
Speaker 1: is not for me, Like, I'm not going to a
• 49:45
Speaker 1: A meetings and I'm not going to rehab. He's like,
• 49:47
  Speaker 1: I understand I have a drinking problem. I understand it
• 49:49
Speaker 1: got out of hand, but I'm never going to say
• 49:51
Speaker 1: to myself, I'm never going to drink again. He goes,
• 49:53
Speaker 1: I'm not doing that to myself. I'm just going to
• 49:55
Speaker 1: say I had to get the situation under control, and
• 49:58
Speaker 1: then that turned into sobriety for him. Right, And it's
• 50:01
Speaker 1: just kind of like it's almost analogous to the classroom
• 50:05
Speaker 1: isn't always the best place for kids to learn, right.
• 50:07
Speaker 1: Everybody has different needs and desires and they respond to
• 50:11
Speaker 1: different kinds of interactions with people, and I think that
• 50:14
Speaker 1: applies to everything in life now so well sobriety. The
• 50:17
Speaker 1: way that Demi just described it, it's kind of like
• 50:18
Speaker 1: the Constitution. It's like how this was established with a
• 50:23
Speaker 1: There are so many more possibilities now for people to
• 50:25
Speaker 1: get their addictions under control or to find an outlet
• 50:27
Speaker 1: that is not they're going to abuse. So, for instance,
• 50:31
  Speaker 1: I don't know what the positioning is for a A,
• 50:34
Speaker 1: but my mom at the time was interested in taking
• 50:37
Speaker 1: cannabis to be able to relax to night because that
• 50:40
Speaker 1: was her stressor and when she would drink. And so
• 50:42
Speaker 1: that's California sober, isn't it. That's California. Yeah, And so
• 50:46
Speaker 1: you've mentioned that and not to me seems like a
• 50:50
Speaker 1: much more realistic approach to trying to find something that
• 50:52
Speaker 1: works for you, because just because you had an issue
• 50:55
Speaker 1: with one substance does not mean you're going to have
• 50:56
Speaker 1: an issue with another. But again, it's reconciling that there
• 51:00
Speaker 1: was an issue and then trying to enter into that cautiously.
• 51:02
  Speaker 1: I would think, yes, absolutely, it's it's look, I I
• 51:06
Speaker 1: am aware of where my substance patterns have ended me
• 51:12
Speaker 1: up in the past. So it's like, even when starting
• 51:16
Speaker 1: this journey of California sober, you know, I needed to
• 51:19
Speaker 1: be very careful that I wanted to make sure that
• 51:22
Speaker 1: I didn't start smoking too much. And there's been periods
• 51:25
Speaker 1: where I've smoked probably too much, and then and some
• 51:29
Speaker 1: periods where I don't smoke at all. You know, it's
• 51:31
Speaker 1: just about finding that balance of what works for you,
• 51:34
Speaker 1: and so I encourage you to support your mom and
• 51:38
Speaker 1: finding what works best for her. Look, I always go
• 51:42
Speaker 1: back to cannabis because I just I know I'm going
• 51:45
Speaker 1: to wake up in the morning. I can't say the
• 51:47
Speaker 1: same for other substances. And that's why I feel okay smoking. Now,
• 51:53
Speaker 1: if that doesn't work for another person, then that doesn't
• 51:55
Speaker 1: work for them, and that's okay. I just encourage support
• 52:00
Speaker 1: finding their journey and their own path and not just
• 52:04
Speaker 1: going to this dogmatic view of recovery, which is, you know,
• 52:10
Speaker 1: A or the highway. Well, so that kind of answers
• 52:12
Speaker 1: the next question. So we have someone call in who
• 52:14
Speaker 1: has been Shane taking well, so Shane Shane is one.
• 52:18
Speaker 1: We'll get to Shane, but the the other one was
• 52:20
Speaker 1: the person who called in and they had been using
• 52:23
Speaker 1: ketamine to try and make their relationship work. So they're
• 52:27
Speaker 1: trying to find something that, again not specifically to the
• 52:30
Speaker 1: relationship the way Dummy's describing it, but you have to
• 52:33
Speaker 1: find something that works for you. I don't know what's
• 52:35
Speaker 1: going on in the relationship that would cause them to
• 52:38
Speaker 1: need to supplement its seemingly happiness with a subject. Ademine
• 52:43
Speaker 1: isn't necessarily Snorting lines of ketamine is a lot different
• 52:48
Speaker 1: than academine infusion, which is usually guided by a medical professional.
• 52:53
Speaker 1: I am not a medical professional. I like to repeat
• 52:55
Speaker 1: that consistently on this podcast because I know a lot
• 52:57
Speaker 1: of people get confused because I'm trying to confuse them him.
• 53:00
Speaker 1: But ketamine infusions are a very therapeutic tool for a
• 53:04
Speaker 1: lot of people. So snort and kenemine is kind of
• 53:07
Speaker 1: like something you would do at a party or off
• 53:10
Speaker 1: somebody's ass. Much different utility, right, right, So kenemine infusions
• 53:14
Speaker 1: are one thing, and those are helpful. Like that. My
• 53:16
Speaker 1: friend who got sober went and got ketamine infusions in
• 53:19
  Speaker 1: l A a a bunch of times, and that's becoming, you know,
• 53:21
Speaker 1: more mainstream than it ever has been. With micro dosing
• 53:24
Speaker 1: psilocybin LSD, like there's all these great healing benefits. But
• 53:29
Speaker 1: I actually let's talk about Shane though, because I can. So.
• 53:31
Speaker 1: This guy called in. He says he's a stoner. He
• 53:33
Speaker 1: stoned all the time, his roommates smoke all the time,
• 53:36
Speaker 1: and he just feels like brain dead. And I was like,
• 53:39
Speaker 1: it sounds like you need a break, like and when
• 53:41
Speaker 1: I you know, I'm researching cannabis and reading about it.
• 53:44
Speaker 1: I've been told that you take like a week a
• 53:47
Speaker 1: month or a month a year. So I told him
• 53:50
Speaker 1: to take a month off. And then I was like,
• 53:51
Speaker 1: you know, and he's like, it's gonna be so hard,
• 53:53
Speaker 1: and I was like, I'll do it with you. I'll
• 53:54
Speaker 1: take a month off just to do it in concert
• 53:56
Speaker 1: with him. But also I feel great taking a break
• 53:58
Speaker 1: from smoking weed. You know, it's another exercise of your
• 54:01
Speaker 1: control over yourself, like to say, okay, I can say
• 54:03
Speaker 1: no to this for thirty days, it's obviously gonna do
• 54:06
Speaker 1: me good. I'd love to be able to smoke a
• 54:08
Speaker 1: joint in thirty days and be high as a kite again,
• 54:11
Speaker 1: you know, like, you know, I get that feeling back
• 54:14
Speaker 1: instead of having you know, over smoking, like I can
• 54:17
Speaker 1: tend to do. Do you take breaks from weed I do.
• 54:20
Speaker 1: I call them weed taxes, like a little I'm like, yeah,
• 54:26
Speaker 1: I just tell my therapist. I'm like, yeah, I'm going
• 54:27
Speaker 1: on a little weed talks this week. And uh, I
• 54:30
  Speaker 1: just I actually didn't even know that that's what you're
• 54:32
Speaker 1: supposed to do. I just kind of like naturally started
• 54:36
Speaker 1: doing that, because yeah, if you if you're not careful,
• 54:39
Speaker 1: you can build your tolerance too quick and then all
• 54:41
Speaker 1: of a sudden, your tolerance is super high, and you're
• 54:45
Speaker 1: just like, it is nice to take a break, and
• 54:48
Speaker 1: first of all, you feel super clearheaded, super present, and
• 54:52
Speaker 1: then yeah, your tolerances jump started. So it's like I
• 54:56
Speaker 1: kind of I think I used to do that with
• 54:58
Speaker 1: caffeine to back in the day when I was drinking caffeine,
• 55:01
  Speaker 1: but like, yeah, it's just it's it's interesting. It's like
• 55:05
Speaker 1: cannabis is something that like it's so gentle, and in
• 55:09
Speaker 1: my experience, it may not be that way for everybody else,
• 55:12
Speaker 1: but in my experience it's been so gentle to where
• 55:14
Speaker 1: if I need to go without it for a period
• 55:18
Speaker 1: of time, I can stop and be fine, and then
• 55:22
Speaker 1: when I'm on vacation, I can smoke it during the
• 55:25
Speaker 1: day and and at night and be fine. You know.
• 55:27
Speaker 1: I definitely agree with the tolerance though, you know, that's
• 55:30
Speaker 1: my main objective, because my tolerance gets so high that
• 55:32
Speaker 1: like all of a sudden, you know, I can take
• 55:34
Speaker 1: like a twenty five milligram edible and just feel like
• 55:36
Speaker 1: a little dense, and you're like, okay, this is getting
• 55:39
Speaker 1: carried away, you know. And plus it becomes very expensive.
• 55:42
Speaker 1: I was in the habit of getting in my car
• 55:44
Speaker 1: in the morning or in the you know, we'll be
• 55:46
Speaker 1: on the way to the podcast and I'll have a joy,
• 55:48
Speaker 1: you know, and then I'm just like, oh wait, this
• 55:50
Speaker 1: is my becoming my morning routine. I don't want anything
• 55:52
Speaker 1: to be my morning routine that's not purely healthy, you know.
• 55:55
Speaker 1: So it's always been to change up the dynamic and
• 55:57
Speaker 1: to change up your relationship to the substance or whatever
• 56:01
Speaker 1: it is you're having. Noticed that if you are having
• 56:04
Speaker 1: like a really hard time putting it down, maybe it's
• 56:08
Speaker 1: time to reevaluate your relationship with that substance. You know.
• 56:11
Speaker 1: If the weed talk is too difficult, it's like, talk
• 56:15
Speaker 1: to the therapist, do what you gotta do and figure
• 56:17
Speaker 1: it out, because obviously that's not working for you. Anymore
• 56:21
Speaker 1: if you're needing to do it every single day. Well,
• 56:24
Speaker 1: it's interesting to hear you talk about cannabis because women
• 56:27
Speaker 1: are finally getting a place in the cannabis space again
• 56:30
Speaker 1: where it's been predominantly male focus for so long, and
• 56:33
Speaker 1: there are so many ways to take it now with edibles,
• 56:36
Speaker 1: with the vapens, you you can sick them anywhere basically
• 56:40
Speaker 1: so our spositories. I've seen this so for for women
• 56:44
Speaker 1: who are listening to this and thinking like I would
• 56:47
Speaker 1: love to introduce myself to cannabis as a way to
• 56:50
Speaker 1: deal with my anxiety, to help me sleep, to to
• 56:53
Speaker 1: enjoy a day out. You know, some people want to
• 56:55
Speaker 1: be social but have such a hard time getting over
• 56:57
Speaker 1: the hump in a social situation. What would you both
• 57:00
Speaker 1: recommend for women who are interested in want to dabble
• 57:04
Speaker 1: get into enter the cannabis space. I think you just
• 57:07
Speaker 1: have to go to your local, like honestly, the micro dosing.
• 57:10
Speaker 1: You can find things that are two and a half milligrams,
• 57:13
Speaker 1: you can find mints that are one milligram, and you
• 57:15
Speaker 1: have to just go with the smallest, smallest dosage and
• 57:19
Speaker 1: try it and see how it affects you. Because it
• 57:21
Speaker 1: is not for everybody. You know, I'm the biggest pusher
• 57:24
Speaker 1: in the world. I want everyone to be stoned, but
• 57:27
Speaker 1: some people just I have a couple of girlfriends that
• 57:29
Speaker 1: cannot handle it, and I'm not trying to convince them
• 57:31
Speaker 1: anymore because I've tried too many times and it always
• 57:33
Speaker 1: ends up, you know, not being pretty. So I'm like, Okay,
• 57:36
Speaker 1: I give up about you. I would say so, yes,
• 57:41
Speaker 1: definitely going to your local dispensary. I think there's there's
• 57:45
Speaker 1: really interesting ways that you can, like you said, and
• 57:49
Speaker 1: take cannabis. So there's these drinks called can those too. Yeah,
• 57:56
Speaker 1: they're like two milligrams. If someone comes over and they're
• 57:59
Speaker 1: not used to smoke king, I'll give them one of
• 58:01
Speaker 1: those and say. They even have like a lid that
• 58:03
Speaker 1: you can save it for later of situation. Or like
• 58:08
Speaker 1: dosst pens, they vibrate when you've hit a full hit
• 58:15
Speaker 1: and so it measures the hits out for you. So
• 58:17
Speaker 1: not just like hitting a vape pen. There's different ways,
• 58:19
Speaker 1: and I encourage people to explore. That's what life is about,
• 58:24
Speaker 1: is exploring and so finding what works for you. And
• 58:27
Speaker 1: if that's if that's cannabis, great, If it's just CBD. Great.
• 58:31
Speaker 1: If it's none of the above, great, whatever works for
• 58:35
Speaker 1: you because of your history, did you have people in
• 58:38
Speaker 1: your circle that are concerned that you're even smoking cannabis
• 58:41
Speaker 1: or are they pretty supportive of the green um? I'd
• 58:45
Speaker 1: say my my team is, for the most part, pretty supportive.
• 58:50
Speaker 1: I've been on this journey since like summer of two
• 58:53
  Speaker 1: thousand nineteen, so it's not been I think we're I've
• 58:58
Speaker 1: gained trust back and you know, they've they've seen me
• 59:03
Speaker 1: be able to have a healthy relationship with cannabis. I
• 59:07
Speaker 1: think that maybe my security guard, Max and maybe Scooter
• 59:12
Speaker 1: are like the They kind of are like Max is
• 59:16
Speaker 1: like my dad. He's like I think he'll always just
• 59:19
Speaker 1: be the type of dad that like never wants to
• 59:22
Speaker 1: see his daughter smoking weed. You know what I'm saying,
• 59:24
Speaker 1: Like he rolls his eyes when I light up a
• 59:26
Speaker 1: joint or something. But like it's it's not out of judgment.
• 59:30
Speaker 1: It's just like whatever floats true vote kind of thing,
• 59:33
Speaker 1: and we make jokes about it. But yeah, I think
• 59:36
Speaker 1: that's I think it's out of protectiveness. And if anything,
• 59:39
Speaker 1: everyone or else else around me knows how much it
• 59:42
Speaker 1: works for me and how much has changed my life
• 59:44
Speaker 1: because I've been able to find relief and still wake
• 59:48
Speaker 1: up the next morning. And also just you know, when
• 59:52
Speaker 1: I'm celebrating something like my album, you know, it's no
• 59:55
Speaker 1: longer like you don't have to go to a bar
• 59:58
Speaker 1: and get drunk, you and light a joint, remember the
• 1:00:01
Speaker 1: entire night, you know. So it's just it's it's cool.
• 1:00:05
Speaker 1: People have seen how it worked for me, how it
• 1:00:07
Speaker 1: works for me, and they're just supportive now. So moral
• 1:00:10
Speaker 1: of the story is, with substances, there's no one size
• 1:00:13
Speaker 1: fits all. With recovery, there's no one size fits all.
• 1:00:15
Speaker 1: But remember when we're going to go look at that house.
• 1:00:17
Speaker 1: A few weeks ago, I forgot that we saw a house,
• 1:00:20
Speaker 1: and then I looked at it online. She was very
• 1:00:23
Speaker 1: stones when we went, oh my god. And then three
• 1:00:26
Speaker 1: weeks later I saw the house online. I said to
• 1:00:28
Speaker 1: him the link. I'm like, I want to see that house.
• 1:00:30
Speaker 1: He's like, sweetheart, we already saw that house, did a
• 1:00:32
Speaker 1: full walk through, spent like a chunk of time in
• 1:00:35
Speaker 1: this home. So that's just how you know when it's
• 1:00:38
Speaker 1: time for a weed talk. Yeah, that's right, and you
• 1:00:41
Speaker 1: need to get that shirt. But I'm like, right, I'm
• 1:00:43
Speaker 1: blacking out on weed. I don't need that. That's why
• 1:00:45
Speaker 1: I don't drink so much anymore. I mean I thought, yeah,
• 1:00:48
  Speaker 1: I didn't. I didn't realize your memory could go. But
• 1:00:50
Speaker 1: you know what, Yeah, that's exactly right. So I'm excited
• 1:00:52
Speaker 1: about my weed talks, and I'm thank you for your
• 1:00:54
Speaker 1: stamp of approval. Demi. Yes, absolutely, we talk up. Thank
• 1:00:59
Speaker 1: you so much, Thanks so much for calling in. We
• 1:01:01
Speaker 1: love you, Thank you, love you guys. Okay, it sounds
• 1:01:06
Speaker 1: like it's time to take a break, so that's what
• 1:01:07
Speaker 1: we're gonna do. You guys will be right back. Well
• 1:01:12
Speaker 1: that was fun, Demi Lovato was fun. Yeah, they're a
• 1:01:15
Speaker 1: good time. Yes, I like them. They are coming from
• 1:01:20
Speaker 1: a place of love, and as we are, sweetheart, we
• 1:01:24
Speaker 1: are coming from a place of deep love. Deep. You
• 1:01:27
Speaker 1: must lead with love. You must lead with deep love. Deep.
• 1:01:32
Speaker 1: So important to have these conversations about drugs because as
• 1:01:35
Speaker 1: things become legalized, and and as these drugs become more
• 1:01:39
Speaker 1: popularized to some degree, we need to know about appropriate use,
• 1:01:43
Speaker 1: about responsible use, and the only way to do that
• 1:01:45
Speaker 1: is to have conversations that might be a little uncomfortable.
• 1:01:47
Speaker 1: But I can't wait till my niees we're doing here.
• 1:01:50
Speaker 1: I can't wait till my niece starts to get like
• 1:01:52
Speaker 1: because she's so anti drugs. I was in San Francisco
• 1:01:54
Speaker 1: last weekend visiting my sister, and my niece is so
• 1:01:57
Speaker 1: anti drugs, like she is so drugs everything like she
• 1:02:01
Speaker 1: I mean, she knows we we are always taking edibles,
• 1:02:03
Speaker 1: are always out and about. Obviously we have no secrets
• 1:02:06
Speaker 1: in our family, and she's just always like we always
• 1:02:09
Speaker 1: try to get her to have a drink. We were like,
• 1:02:11
Speaker 1: come on, have a glass of champagne, and she's just
• 1:02:14
Speaker 1: like nope, nope, nope. And I'm just like, you know what,
• 1:02:18
Speaker 1: I was anti drugs too, and when in high school
• 1:02:21
Speaker 1: I was against them. I couldn't believe people who use them.
• 1:02:25
Speaker 1: And then I tried them. And so is it? What
• 1:02:27
Speaker 1: is her stance on it? Why is she in such opposition.
• 1:02:30
Speaker 1: I think she's just she wants to be in control
• 1:02:32
  Speaker 1: of herself. So I think that's it. I think that's
• 1:02:34
Speaker 1: a lot of people's reasons for not wanting to experiment
• 1:02:37
Speaker 1: is that they are going to lose control. I kind
• 1:02:40
Speaker 1: of like that feeling. Do you think it's But I
• 1:02:42
Speaker 1: also don't feel like I lose control when I take
• 1:02:45
Speaker 1: an edible or something like that, it's not a loss
• 1:02:48
  Speaker 1: of control. It's just you're not as I don't know,
• 1:02:52
Speaker 1: but for people who are Type A, it does feel
• 1:02:53
Speaker 1: out of control to some degree, because that's how I feel,
• 1:02:56
Speaker 1: I would assume, especially when I started, because I am
• 1:02:58
Speaker 1: so particular and so in control in a lot of
• 1:03:01
Speaker 1: ways that when I took an edible, it's like how
• 1:03:03
Speaker 1: when I take a five milligram it could feel like
• 1:03:05
Speaker 1: I'm taking a twenty because I'm wound so tight that
• 1:03:08
Speaker 1: that level of relaxation feels very foreign, or did in
• 1:03:10
Speaker 1: the beginning for me. But it was also a superiority
• 1:03:14
Speaker 1: thing for me, Like I liked being able to say
• 1:03:15
Speaker 1: that I'd never done drugs, and then I realized what
• 1:03:18
Speaker 1: the fund is? What's the point of that, because then
• 1:03:20
Speaker 1: I will have never experienced anything right, right, right, And
• 1:03:24
Speaker 1: now I've done drugs and I'm much happier about it. Yeah, well,
• 1:03:27
Speaker 1: I mean as long as you're yeah. I mean, everyone
• 1:03:30
Speaker 1: needs to just get over themselves with regard to drugs
• 1:03:32
Speaker 1: like there, we really have to work hard at destigmatizing
• 1:03:35
Speaker 1: all of it because it's like, especially cannabis, it's medicine
• 1:03:38
Speaker 1: for so many people like I don't want anybody to
• 1:03:41
Speaker 1: being denied of medicine, do you well. And it's interesting
• 1:03:44
Speaker 1: because the my Midwest counterparts, my family who are still there,
• 1:03:48
Speaker 1: their stance is so against recreational canvas they're talking about
• 1:03:54
Speaker 1: because they're all indoctrinated by government saying that it's a
• 1:03:57
Speaker 1: criminalized thing. And yeah, they're all alcoholics, exactly like alcohol
• 1:04:01
Speaker 1: is better than cannabis. No, fucking nay, no, especially not
• 1:04:05
Speaker 1: for the blow no. I remember I gave my dog
• 1:04:08
Speaker 1: Chanca zan x once on a flight to Spain and he,
• 1:04:15
Speaker 1: I know, all of this is very relatable listeners, he
• 1:04:19
Speaker 1: freaked out. He freaked out, and he was heightened and
• 1:04:23
Speaker 1: psycho and he was acting in ways I had never
• 1:04:25
Speaker 1: seen him act before. But it was such a long flight.
• 1:04:27
Speaker 1: I thought I was helping him, so I could just
• 1:04:29
Speaker 1: put him to sleep for the flight so he wouldn't
• 1:04:31
Speaker 1: be on a twelve hour flight. And it backfired. And
• 1:04:34
Speaker 1: when also backfired was that I also had taken the
• 1:04:37
Speaker 1: zan x, so I was sleeping and he was fucking
• 1:04:40
Speaker 1: freaking out. And when I got home and I spoke
• 1:04:42
Speaker 1: to my vet, I said, I don't understand what happened,
• 1:04:45
Speaker 1: And he said when your dog is in a heightened
• 1:04:49
Speaker 1: state like what you were describing, if you give him
• 1:04:52
Speaker 1: a zan X, he will stay in that heightened state.
• 1:04:55
  Speaker 1: And I was like, well, I'm like I'm in a
• 1:04:58
Speaker 1: constant state of ad agitation and when I take a Zannex,
• 1:05:02
Speaker 1: I go to sleep. So I guess dogs physiology and
• 1:05:05
Speaker 1: biology is different than ours. Well now we know, and
• 1:05:07
Speaker 1: that's an important lesson for everyone listening. Do not give
• 1:05:10
Speaker 1: your dog humans annex. No, that was an actually it
• 1:05:13
Speaker 1: was his annex that I took from him. To be
• 1:05:16
Speaker 1: completely honest, I looked up what that that had prescribed
• 1:05:19
Speaker 1: him and I was like, oh, I like xann X.
• 1:05:22
Speaker 1: Because you're a doctor, you knew what portions you. So
• 1:05:24
Speaker 1: I gave one of myself and I give one to
• 1:05:26
Speaker 1: Chunk and then I had a really embarrassing flight per Chunk. Well,
• 1:05:32
Speaker 1: on that note, the important thing is to calibrate your
• 1:05:34
Speaker 1: drug experience, because there's losing control in a fun, harmless way,
• 1:05:37
Speaker 1: and then there's losing control of your life, and you
• 1:05:40
Speaker 1: know those things are different, and losing control of your
• 1:05:44
Speaker 1: life is very very serious. As we've heard today from
• 1:05:46
  Speaker 1: a lot of people. It's not a fun ride. A
• 1:05:49
Speaker 1: road to go down well, that you need to take
• 1:05:52
Speaker 1: personal inventory of where you're at with your drug use,
• 1:05:54
Speaker 1: which is what you're doing now. So you're gonna take
• 1:05:55
Speaker 1: a month Off'm going to take a month off of cannabis,
• 1:05:58
Speaker 1: and I'm going to hold you and my taking off
• 1:05:59
Speaker 1: a month of edibles and smoking or just smoking your
• 1:06:03
Speaker 1: throat could use it for the smoking, but you should
• 1:06:05
Speaker 1: probably do a full detox. Okay, I can do that,
• 1:06:08
Speaker 1: no problem. Well report back. Yeah, I'm setting an example.
• 1:06:12
Speaker 1: I gave Shane my word and I'm not going to
• 1:06:14
Speaker 1: break it. Shane. We'll see what Shane. I hope Shane
• 1:06:17
Speaker 1: is able to get through the month. Probably not, but
• 1:06:19
Speaker 1: I'll do it regardless because I stand by my word.
• 1:06:23
  Speaker 1: It's science. I hope I don't get pregnant.
