- 0:46Welcome back to the boundary Corner podcast.
- 0:50My name is Curtis Wilson. I'm Brian seagull.
- 0:53How you doing on this man again? Got a little rainy weekend,
- 1:17coming up, rainy cold, going to probably miss, baseball,
- 1:22practice tomorrow and I'm we had a game tonight.
- 1:27Our field was borderline okay to play.
- 1:30There were still puddles and everything and it is as much
- 1:32rain as they say. We're going to get tomorrow into
- 1:36Friday, we're not playing till next week sometime.
- 1:40Yeah, it's going to be a soggy one the next couple days.
- 1:43So I figured y'all are probably not going to see any games until
- 1:47next week. So no, not for all if that's
- 1:50what you were looking for. All things considered, if not,
- 1:54it is what it is. When you say fall ball, we do
- 1:56not reschedule schedule. But tonight, let's reschedule
- 2:00game from Monday. So it's kind of cool, but I
- 2:04think we also need Needed to. I think I coach saw the weather
- 2:07and it's like, we're not going to play Saturday or not going to
- 2:09play Thursday. We're not going to play
- 2:12Saturday, so if we don't get them in, will be almost two
- 2:15weeks between games which is yeah, not a funny.
- 2:18So got it. Got it got to make it happening
- 2:21but this is sort of the last week we can like really, really
- 2:25do it because I mean time change this weekend, the next like if
- 2:30we can't get a field at five We don't have one of the field
- 2:34lights, you know? We're not going to be out of
- 2:37play. I mean heck we were out there
- 2:39the last 20 minutes, it will start to get Dusky so it was
- 2:41kind of pushing it man. So yeah.
- 2:44So your wife posted something, you guys had a murder mystery
- 2:49tonight. Well yeah well up to a
- 2:52neighbor's house. Did a little murder mystery in a
- 2:54box I guess they get like a monthly thing and decided we do
- 3:01it together, we solve the mystery, man, and two, bailiffs
- 3:05captain. Yeah.
- 3:08It was skipped / Bayless her bailiff.
- 3:15Well some of his takes are murdering because there's just
- 3:17that bad. I mean, you know, but I guess
- 3:21that's the way you get ahead in sports media.
- 3:22Nowadays is just make asinine statements and then never ever
- 3:26come off of them, right? Yeah.
- 3:28You pick a guy you pick a player you hate and just rip them
- 3:31regardless of the situation regardless of the facts
- 3:34presented, like that's, he's Like three or four guys, he just
- 3:37rips on regularly and then he just throws in other bad takes
- 3:41four teams. He doesn't like, and then he
- 3:43just puts a bow on it, and that's what he does even when
- 3:47it's wrong. Oh yeah, that's even better when
- 3:50it's wrong. All right?
- 3:52It's all about, it's all about clicks and eyes, man, it doesn't
- 3:55matter whether he's right. It is true.
- 3:58Clicks acrylics are the important part, man.
- 4:00All right. Well, Braun Lets Roll into it.
- 4:03No, the enemy this week Hokies. Travel West to Louisville, to
- 4:09play the Cardinals, Cardinals 2 and 4 overall, 1 and 4 in
- 4:13conference play, but they are coming off one of the better
- 4:17performances of the year against FSU, 4816 win, all right.
- 4:22We'll kick it off with the offense.
- 4:25They are they are loaded with a three headed monster at
- 4:29quarterback wide receiver and running back.
- 4:32Malik Cunningham the quarterback to to at well and JV and Hawkins
- 4:36so bright. I want to start with Cunningham.
- 4:39Let's start at quarterback just because he's got the ball in his
- 4:41hands every time right before the season.
- 4:44So far put up really good numbers. 1396 passing yards, 12
- 4:49touchdowns five interceptions. Sixty two point nine.
- 4:52Completion percentage. Adding on to that 174, rushing
- 4:56yards and three touchdowns. Now, although the rushing yards
- 5:01where they were last year, comparatively there is no doubt.
- 5:05This is going to be the biggest duel threat.
- 5:09The Hokies have faced all year. You know we saw Sam Harmon run
- 5:13last week for a touchdown but those guys compared to this guy
- 5:17it's night and day, 15th and passing yards, 27th and passing
- 5:22efficiency and know. Overall, he's really had one bad
- 5:25game. Brian.
- 5:26I mean in that was the pit game. You kind of, were we picked out
- 5:30a few weeks ago where you threw three interceptions, only 170
- 5:35yards and a 42 percent completion.
- 5:38So you know, you got an athletic guy back at quarterback, who
- 5:41obviously canceling, the rock Brian.
- 5:44What do you see out of Malik Cunningham?
- 5:48Definitely a guy that can beat you with his legs.
- 5:50Like you said there, man. That's a true dual threat.
- 5:55We've had here. I think other guys are have been
- 5:59athletic quarterbacks. This guy's a true dual threat,
- 6:02who can dynamically beat you with his legs and his arm, they
- 6:08get in the ball, in the running game, a lot of different ways.
- 6:11Sometimes that's the scrambled, but primarily the way they draw
- 6:14it up, in terms of a coal Run for the quarterback is going to
- 6:18be a lot of QB drawers. So you'll see him kind of
- 6:22influence. With kind of a drop step and
- 6:25then he'll just take off. Usually up the middle between
- 6:27the tackles there, try to find a crease get to the second level.
- 6:31Make some guys miss try to bust a big one.
- 6:35He's also a quarterback that for not being the biggest guy.
- 6:39He doesn't shy away from contact.
- 6:41I heard something on the broadcast where they were
- 6:44talking about the quarterback room talked about, we don't run
- 6:47out of bounds, we don't slide we fight for every yard.
- 6:51So that's something that has Kind of come back to bite them a
- 6:55couple times because Cunningham was banged up pretty bad in the
- 6:59pit game towards the end there. Especially that last big shot.
- 7:02He took, oh yeah, he came off the field once against Notre
- 7:05Dame. So he's going to take some shots
- 7:09and there's going to be some opportunities there their Forest
- 7:13but when he's not running, he throws a pretty decent deep
- 7:17ball. That's what they like to do is
- 7:19attack down for you with the football.
- 7:22They're not, they're not a ding. Conduct team.
- 7:24They're not a team that's going to kind of throw those
- 7:27intermediate routes a whole lot. They're going to throw some
- 7:30screens to the wide receivers and then take shots so look for
- 7:34him to do that with his arm. Some of that could be because
- 7:39his intermediate are magar. See is not the greatest he'll
- 7:43miss on through, still wait too long on throws but if it's not
- 7:49there and he sees an opening Hill, quite easily, likes to
- 7:52climb the pocket early in the after the snap and then if it's
- 7:56not there he's not afraid to take off and makes things happen
- 7:59with his legs. So there's going to have to be a
- 8:00lot of discipline from the defense against this guy.
- 8:04All right, so disciplined and then something you mentioned
- 8:07just a couple seconds ago. The Deep shot the Deep balls and
- 8:11Buddy, does he have himself a wide receiver to throw the ball
- 8:15to in 22 at? Well man, I mean he's no doubt.
- 8:21His favorite Target five touchdowns this year 450.
- 8:25Receiving yards, 32 receptions at 14 perceptions and this
- 8:31season, his best games have come.
- 8:33Um, against some of the better athletic teams.
- 8:36Athletically gifted means with Miami and FSU, both over 100
- 8:41plus yards and he's scary, man. I mean, this guy is a sub for
- 8:45for guy, was clocked it for 38 last year and a 40, so he can
- 8:51get on it top 10 in receiving yards, in the country and he is
- 8:54leading the ACC. I should say, tied for the lead.
- 8:58Now, Brian, you watched, obviously, it's film.
- 9:00Does he play as fast as these stats are?
- 9:03Saying and what that clock says or is it he plays fast or he
- 9:08doesn't play Fast, impasse, he's just passed, he's a track
- 9:12athlete. That also is fast on the field.
- 9:16See it run by guys run through zones.
- 9:22Definitely likes to take more likes to hit him either down,
- 9:25filled with the shot or in the screen game where you can kind
- 9:29of Working space a little bit so they're not trying to run him
- 9:35over the Middle where he's getting hit ton by linebackers
- 9:38and things like that. But what he does well is he's
- 9:42going to outrun your guy if you're playing that man coverage
- 9:46if you're giving half feel responsibility to a safety,
- 9:49that's not really something you want to do a whole lot of either
- 9:53and have against the FSU game here.
- 9:55And by guy just for a touchdown right up the sideline, You know,
- 10:01he's going to be a guy that we have to keep in front of us the
- 10:04whole game, if we're going to contain him, he's only an
- 10:07average route Runner. He's not got a great route
- 10:09Runner, but but what he does, well is working space and just
- 10:13take the top off a defense. And that's kind of scary when
- 10:18you say that Brian because I think about the UNC game and
- 10:23multiple fun beat over the top and I know we were we were still
- 10:26acting. We were short-handed but it
- 10:29worries you when a guy's 438, man, man.
- 10:32The first thing you say is, if we tried going man and he gets
- 10:35beat and they put one on the money.
- 10:37Like we have seen numerous time in Louisville's game this year,
- 10:41it's three plays in there in the end zone.
- 10:43And if I were to happen early the way we Been playing
- 10:48especially on offense, you can be very long day for us, but you
- 10:52know, is bothersome is that isn't is worrisome.
- 10:54Is that is the third head of this monster is absolute?
- 10:57No slouch. JV and Hawkins has 693 yards and
- 11:03six touchdowns 11 receptions at 85 yards.
- 11:06In three of his six games played, he's won over 156 yards
- 11:14per Rush, including last week, 10.9 against FSU.
- 11:21He's already improved those receptions from last year and
- 11:24he's kind of slowly becoming an all-around back which is really
- 11:29good for Louis. Bill because they really don't
- 11:31have to substitute him out. He can stay in there, the whole
- 11:33dime. 693 yards. There's only two people ahead of
- 11:38them in the country. One person had him in the
- 11:41conference Khalil Herbert's. A guy in the conference and, you
- 11:46know, it's it's pretty wild top 25 in yards per carry surprise.
- 11:55We worry about the guys going over the top, but they've got a
- 11:57guy that can run. So how, you know, what do we got
- 12:01to do to slow him down and what does he do?
- 12:03Really well, that's going to potentially cost.
- 12:05I'm for the Hokies. So, another thing with with with
- 12:08Hawkins man we're talking about a track athlete at wide
- 12:11receiver, with that. Well, we've got another track
- 12:13athlete at running back with Hawkins, kind of a big play guy.
- 12:18If you get into the second level really dangerous in the open
- 12:22field, but he's not going to grind out drives like some of
- 12:27the guys we saw with Wake Forest or even some of the guys we saw
- 12:30on UNC, he is definitely more of a Feast, or famine, hit the big
- 12:35play, or it's probably just a my skein to a loss.
- 12:41Yeah, I've seen him thrown for a lot of negative plays, but then
- 12:44they'll turn around and hit just a big chunk play with them.
- 12:47And obviously, you know, you get 30 on one carry and -5 one
- 12:50another, you still have a pretty damn good average there ever
- 12:54carry. So that's kind of what you're
- 12:55looking at with with Hawkins is that he's not going to beat you
- 13:00you know, five to eight yards at a time, he's going to beat you.
- 13:03By hitting those big cashing runs and get 20 to 30 yards or
- 13:07go for the big one. Give you a prime example man he
- 13:12had a big run against Pittsburgh things like a 70 or 75 yd
- 13:16touchdown but he had less than 10 total yards from scrimmage.
- 13:20The rest of the game in the room, the running attack.
- 13:23So he was still used some of the passing game, but if you're able
- 13:28to keep him from getting to the second level, you can make Look
- 13:33pedestrian. But if you can't do that, he's
- 13:37going to run up and down the field.
- 13:41Now, Brian even mention something with Cunningham you
- 13:43should mention wide receiver screens but you didn't mention
- 13:45running back screens. It's he strictly just a check
- 13:48down guy or something like that. Maybe like, you know, up the
- 13:53seam or something, and not really do anything because the
- 13:56way they use them primarily, man, is they use them a lot in
- 13:58the check down game, but they also will kind of run him on
- 14:01some wheel routes. So I've seen him catch about two
- 14:04or three of those 20 yards, downfield, 30 yards downfield,
- 14:08one of them actually I think it was Notre Dame was an easy
- 14:14touchdown that kind of came actually through short and he
- 14:19kind of had to fall forward on it and by the time you reach the
- 14:21ball out, he was right at the 1-yard line.
- 14:23So it could have been a touchdown for him there but
- 14:27wasn't because of the throw. So got to keep an eye on him
- 14:31when he leaves the backfield as well because he can still I'll
- 14:33bite you, especially on those wheel routes.
- 14:36Most of the check down stuff. They're getting the ball to him
- 14:38and space either. A quick swing pass or a true
- 14:43check down if the primary target, isn't there?
- 14:46So still got to tackle him in those instances because he liked
- 14:49again, if he does get to the second level or into some wide
- 14:52open spaces there, he can hurt you.
- 14:56Got it, Brian. Alright, let's turn.
- 14:58Let's turn away from the three-headed monster and kind of
- 15:00look at some other pieces that are offense.
- 15:02Now overall their total offense, you're getting four hundred
- 15:05sixteen yards a game which is good for 43rd and Country.
- 15:07So my terrible and they're pretty balanced on offense.
- 15:14We're really neither The Passion of the rubbish, really exploded
- 15:16up into the top 20 where team like you know, Wake Forest
- 15:21really their running game is what carries He's them now
- 15:26they're very efficient in the Red Zone, converting 95% of
- 15:29their chances and you know, 15 of their 22 touchdowns.
- 15:37I scored have come in the red zone so they get down there
- 15:40majority of time. They're scoring touchdowns.
- 15:43Now this team when you lose book, in tackles one who is an
- 15:48absolute beast, from Highland Springs, In McHale pectin,
- 15:54you're going to give up sex and they are, they're giving up
- 15:56about two and a half, two and a half sacks per game 63rd in the
- 15:59country. So in the bottom half, they also
- 16:01give up around nine tackles for loss of game as well.
- 16:06So there is you just mentioned with Hawkins about.
- 16:10He's not really going to grow around you.
- 16:11So if you can get them in the backfield and get him down,
- 16:13you're putting them behind the chains.
- 16:16But again, they like the chunk plays.
- 16:18So getting them behind the chains and Obviously, you know,
- 16:24keeping them behind the change is going to be super important
- 16:26for the Hokies but you know, you know, wide receiver you
- 16:31mentioned. We got to to, you know, best
- 16:33Fitzpatrick Branson's, very good.
- 16:35Compliments to to not putting up the numbers he are, but not bad
- 16:39receivers at all. But one guy that we me, and you
- 16:42kind of discussed and you brought them to the light was
- 16:45Marshawn. Ford number 83, six-foot-two
- 16:48240-pound tight in half back. Unranked Hometown kid playing
- 16:53form so far this year, 18 receptions, 189 yards and four
- 16:57touchdowns. So Brian, what only are you
- 17:02seeing from him? But what else are you seeing?
- 17:04Like from their offensive line and this team in general with
- 17:07the other parts of the offense that aren't part of the
- 17:09three-headed monster? So yeah the big thing like I
- 17:13said we highlighted Marshawn forward and he's kind of a kind
- 17:16of a do-it-all HVAC he's usually going to be an HVAC instead of
- 17:20true in line tight in they like to do stuff with him out of the
- 17:23back field especially in the goal line area.
- 17:27So we talked about their Red Zone chances there he does a
- 17:30great job blocking the Red Zone but he also does a great job
- 17:33kind of getting out of the backfield going in motion and
- 17:37just getting open for those touchdowns.
- 17:39He said I think two or three, two or three of those those
- 17:41touchdowns A come in the Red Zone, he had another long one.
- 17:44I think that he took the house, I believe it was against Florida
- 17:48State. Or one that I believe I have
- 17:53almost scored on that one. I can't remember if that was the
- 17:55one that got got moved back to the 1-yard line or not.
- 17:58But he's a dynamic player as well, but their offensive line
- 18:01is probably the weakest part of their off to you mention losing
- 18:04two bookends. And you can definitely tell it,
- 18:06especially in the past game, Cunningham is taking a lot of
- 18:09shots this year. The again I noted earlier he got
- 18:13hit a lot against Pitt. That hit a pretty good amount
- 18:16against Notre Dame, got hit probably more than he should.
- 18:20Have considering how well they were moving the football against
- 18:23Florida State. So, you know, he's definitely a
- 18:26guy that's going to take a hit and I think this offensive line
- 18:30is kind of more finesse than power.
- 18:32That's why you see some of those plays that Hawkins is running,
- 18:37either get thrown for kind of negative yardage or bust out for
- 18:40the big one if they're able to get on their blocks and stay on
- 18:44their blocks. They end up doing pretty well,
- 18:47but if they don't stay on the blocks, then a lot of times, ha
- 18:51Let's pull down for no gain or loss of a couple yards.
- 18:54So it'll be interesting to see how we attack that offense
- 18:59offensive line and kind of make them think more than they need
- 19:02to. I think that's what we're going
- 19:03to need to do is confuse them a little bit and try to take
- 19:07advantage of the fact that they aren't kind of the road graders.
- 19:12They're more fit up and see what happens.
- 19:14Type offensive line. So hopefully we do well with it.
- 19:18All right, let me ask his Brawn to prom.
- 19:20Question, if we slow down on Cunningham, 22 and Hawkins.
- 19:27Can we win this game and how do we slow them?
- 19:30Now, how do we attack this team? You know what I would do to slow
- 19:38down Cunningham in the running game is I would probably let a
- 19:40guy like Tisdale spy Cunningham pretty much the whole game,
- 19:44especially on obvious passing situations.
- 19:48You don't want the quarterback to beat you with this legs
- 19:52especially when he's dropping back in the pocket.
- 19:54So if he tries to escape the pocket, I'd like to have a guy
- 19:58that's athletic like Tisdale but also a good tackler to be able
- 20:02to track him and bring him to the Now, the second thing is, I
- 20:07mean, don't let 22 at will be Tuesday, make him work
- 20:12underneath, make him earn the yards, don't give him 30, 40
- 20:17yard games in the air, make him have to get them either in the
- 20:21screen game or some of those hitches or outs or things like
- 20:26that. They like to throw in the
- 20:27intermediate game and make them have to catch the ball, secure
- 20:32the ball, make honey, I'm after every accurate ball and not give
- 20:36him. Those sheep Big Shots down the
- 20:37field. How about him?
- 20:39They're not all the guys. I think all three of them are
- 20:42like 59. I think 22 you like 170 Hawkins
- 20:47is like 185 or 185 190 at all. Yeah and that's the big thing is
- 20:58that I think if you can make them punish them a little bit,
- 21:02make them pay for it. I've seen Hawkins put the ball
- 21:05on the ground and several times. So there's going to be some
- 21:08opportunities there. You kind of get him in a In a
- 21:12jam there, you know, I've seen guys, pull the ball out on him,
- 21:16so that that's something that will try to take advantage of.
- 21:18I'm sure we've had some success punching the ball out like we
- 21:21saw against Boston College. Hopefully we can maybe replicate
- 21:24some of that. I think some of the delay
- 21:27blitzes would come in handy here that we saw early in the season
- 21:30to kind of confuse Cunningham when he when he does drop back
- 21:34and the most important thing we need to do is just tackle
- 21:38tackle. Well when we get to a position
- 21:41to make a tackle, we make the tackle because if you don't make
- 21:46a tackle in these guys have area to work that's going to be
- 21:49problematic. Yeah, Brian, you talk about
- 21:52tackling the last few things out here, is third down wise.
- 21:56They're converting. 40% of their third Downs.
- 21:58They're converting 60% of their third down of their fourth
- 22:01Downs. Excuse me.
- 22:03And, you know, the problems we've had it has not been
- 22:07consistent, but it's sporadically that weight force.
- 22:10It was that drive? It was just like, we could never
- 22:13stop them. And when you see a team that's
- 22:16converting, you know, 40 and 60. It's like, is this another game
- 22:20where their third and three, they get it.
- 22:24Third and six, we stop them. One yard short, but they the
- 22:26risk on Fourth and they push it. I think I could be a big issue
- 22:29for us now. I did see one thing you talked
- 22:34about getting stripped out, we've mentioned the
- 22:36interceptions. They have 12 turnovers so far,
- 22:40so that could be good for us, right?
- 22:45Yes. I mean, I think we definitely
- 22:46need to turn them if you're not turning them over at least
- 22:48probably two times in this game. I don't feel very good.
- 22:54All right, so that that now that's my son.
- 23:00The other piece is that we look at ourselves last week with the
- 23:04highest amount of penalties and penalty yards in a Virginia Tech
- 23:08game under Justin Fuente. They are significantly A
- 23:11undisciplined Team all the time. They're 79th in the country with
- 23:15332 penalty yards and basically in all their ACC games at least
- 23:21six penalties somewhere during the Game.
- 23:24So a little bit of undisciplined there.
- 23:26Something you probably would expect as a team is essentially
- 23:29getting turned around from the dumpster fire.
- 23:32So hopefully I'm like last week, it's them making the penalties
- 23:38and giving us. The first downs are backing
- 23:40themselves up and putting themselves in bad situations on
- 23:43both sides of the ball. Yes, I've seen them scenes of
- 23:48holding some face mask. Couple P eyes.
- 23:54I mean they'll commit kind of penalties across the board.
- 23:57It's not any one area that you can really highlight, but they
- 24:02definitely their discipline leave something to be desired.
- 24:04Just like we played last week, hopefully we can stick more to
- 24:08our average and hopefully they'll stick to theirs and I
- 24:11think we'll be okay in that category.
- 24:13Absolutely. All right, well let's look to
- 24:15the defense. Take a quick look at that.
- 24:18Just a little statistics and data here.
- 24:20Their Total Defense is 44th in the country.
- 24:22Giving up. 383 yards. A game at about five point seven
- 24:25three per play scoring defense sensually, given about 27 and a
- 24:29half points. 187, rushing yards per game at four point nine one
- 24:35per touch. Again, you feel with what we do
- 24:37on offense, that hopefully can Transit translate to big numbers
- 24:42in that game. Now one interesting piece,
- 24:45Brian. And I don't know if you saw
- 24:47anything while you're going through the tape, but the only
- 24:49give up about 18 first downs, Game.
- 24:53It seems like on the low side where when we talked about BC
- 24:56and couple the other teams, those teams were more in the low
- 25:0020s. So that's kind of interesting to
- 25:03me there. Is it, do they get them off the
- 25:05field or is it? No, they give up three big plays
- 25:08and then you're off the field with the touchdown, okay?
- 25:12In the second apartment, getting about two and a half sacks per
- 25:15game. Seven tackles for loss so they
- 25:17do have a way to create some pressure you know?
- 25:23They've only forced four, turnovers two fumbles, two
- 25:26interceptions. So there are -8 internal
- 25:33category which is probably one reason they're two and four
- 25:37right now and not at three and three, maybe even four and two.
- 25:41And then last piece always like to look at third down
- 25:44conversions, they're giving up 45% third down conversion, which
- 25:48translate to 72nd the country. So not good at all Brian.
- 25:51So, Just looking at this Brine and then take a look at what.
- 25:58You did with their skiing. What is this team look like in?
- 26:01What can we what are we looking for on this team?
- 26:06Sure, so the big thing I'll start with the there a base 314
- 26:11so you not something we've really seen to this point.
- 26:14We've seen some 33, some some 42 and some 245 but their base is
- 26:22going to be a 34 but they do mix front.
- 26:25So like on obvious passing Downs They're going to run the nose
- 26:28off, run an extra DB on and got to go with a with a 245 look on
- 26:36some obvious passing Downs there.
- 26:38But when I looked at the tape man so they're D line is not
- 26:43great. Probably the weakest part of
- 26:45their defense. Looks like that's an area that
- 26:47we should be able to attack but they have really athletic
- 26:50linebackers in their secondary please really opportunistic and
- 26:54Zone coverage when it's Passing down this defense is success, is
- 27:01kind of predicated on getting pressure on those downs and
- 27:03they'll do it with the with kind of a variety of kind of Blitz
- 27:07packages and they'll switch up the coverage behind those Blitz
- 27:10packages. So they'll Blitz and and give
- 27:13you a man free look in which case we would need to find the
- 27:16mismatch if they give a kind of cover three combo coverage.
- 27:20We need to look for the check down or the crossing route to
- 27:24take advantage of some of those linebackers and coverage and if
- 27:29it's kind of a cover 3 Zone Blitz, we just need to find the
- 27:32void. See if they got a route in that
- 27:35area and take advantage there. But that's what they like to do.
- 27:38On the passing Downs is bring that pressure and try to make
- 27:42you make a mistake or get a sack, whatever it may be, so,
- 27:47but they play a good show when they're in that cover three
- 27:50look. So, we're going to again, like,
- 27:52we, like I talked about last week, we're going to have to
- 27:54kind of take our shots underneath that.
- 27:57And not keep trying to press the ball.
- 27:59Deep down the field. Say it again.
- 28:05Stop throwing Fades. It's okay.
- 28:08Occasionally, it's not okay. Every time we get in third and
- 28:10long so I'd like to, you know, hopefully see us utilize some of
- 28:17the quick passing game and, you know, they usually play more of
- 28:21a straight cover three. But occasionally, they'll go
- 28:24into like a quarter quarter half look and like I said, And when
- 28:27they sometimes go on this blitzes it'll be kind of a man
- 28:31free look, so a single high safety.
- 28:34All right, Brian. Brian you mentioned the two
- 28:36athletic linebackers really stood out to you.
- 28:39And you know that's CJ, Avery the 5-11 230-pound inside
- 28:44linebacker who was a composite four-star, coming out of
- 28:46Mississippi, a top 247 player in the country.
- 28:50So far this year, 40 tackles one interception, three tackles for
- 28:53loss, and one sack and then the other is Monty Montgomery.
- 28:58The Juco transfer 32 tackles seven-and-a-half tackles for
- 29:03loss for sale. tax kind of just looking at that and in hearing
- 29:08you talk about it, you know, am I wrong in saying Avery's the
- 29:12backbone of the defense, but Montgomery's that guy you kind
- 29:15of worry about That's a pretty accurate assessment.
- 29:19Like Avery's the all-around guy. He does a lot of things really
- 29:23well. And Monty Montgomery is the
- 29:27disrupter. He's great in pursue.
- 29:30He shoots gaps in the backfield. He's good at Rushing the passer
- 29:33when they Blitz led the team in sacks last year.
- 29:36So that tells you something there but CJ Avery, I mean,
- 29:39he's, he's the balance kind of do it all guy, he tackles well,
- 29:43he plays well in coverage, tackles in space.
- 29:46And he's had a pic against Pitt and returned it for some decent
- 29:51yardage throws guys, for some tackles for loss in the running
- 29:54game. So he really does it all.
- 29:56He's the Sound Player, he's where he needs to be while Monte
- 30:00Montgomery's more of the the freestyler that completely
- 30:05disrupt your play if he guesses, right?
- 30:10All right, but what are some things like you saw against some
- 30:13of the games that work that we might implement?
- 30:18Yeah, so I'll say something and you can tell me what you think
- 30:21about this pit rush for over 150 yards against this defense.
- 30:26Well, that's no one fit and how their offense works and knowing
- 30:31they gas for 150. That makes me feel better about
- 30:34us running the football this week.
- 30:36Yeah, well at least put us in the 250 just by default we
- 30:44should be Kind of over that to 150.
- 30:48So, That's kind of been our bread
- 31:34and butter. This year, Herbert should be
- 31:36able to The edge of more consistency, we should be able
- 31:39to use Blackshear and our wide receivers in more, the jet
- 31:44motion game and in some of the outside runs whether it's the
- 31:48sweep or some of the other items that we kind of worked in here
- 31:51and there. So I like that.
- 31:54And I'm hoping that we can throw the ball well enough.
- 31:58In kind of the different levels of the defense that we need to.
- 32:00So they can't just keep throwing a Hard Eight box out us the
- 32:05whole game because if we can do that, we should be able to solve
- 32:08them up. I did see that both pit and
- 32:12Notre Dame had some success in like the counter and screen
- 32:15game. So I expect to see some of that
- 32:18thrown out there as well. Okay.
- 32:20They they like to get kind of fooled by Some of the window
- 32:27dressing and motion before a snap.
- 32:30So might be able to get them to over-pursue or or look the wrong
- 32:34direction at the snap of the football.
- 32:36So there might be some opportunities there.
- 32:39Got it, Brian. So again we're you're talking
- 32:44and saying good things, but I'm always concerned about who's at
- 32:49the controls. So let's let's go, let's go to
- 32:53this, let's go to pivotal players because obviously you
- 32:56know we've got to know who we should be looking at is hokey
- 32:59fans this week and kind of deciding how we're going to win
- 33:04this game and we landed on 11 because he literally played his
- 33:08His worst game as a hokey and in hookers, one and hidden hookers.
- 33:15One also for the other reason, and you would let me put him on
- 33:18here. But I'll let you know.
- 33:22All right, so hookers on here because number one hooker played
- 33:25a bad game last last week. It needs to get out there redeem
- 33:28himself. And number two is that we're
- 33:30going to need hooker both running.
- 33:33And passing this week, we're not going to be able to settle on
- 33:36him, just having success in the running game and only hitting a
- 33:39few passes. While throwing three picks, we
- 33:41can't do that again. We need him running the
- 33:45inverted. V r with the Reeds would even
- 33:47with the Zone reads. We need him to actually be
- 33:49reading this situation. Not just, it being a Jet Sweep
- 33:55or an outside Zone, we need to have him reading the play,
- 33:58whether it's place out on the inverted beer, whether it's
- 34:01backside on the Zone, read and making plays with his legs.
- 34:05But also throwing to those wide receivers.
- 34:07On those quick passes outside Crossing routes, which are going
- 34:12to be important to kind of beat those man.
- 34:14Underneath coverages and screens to take advantage of some of
- 34:17their over Pursuit and ability to Fall for the window dressing
- 34:25before the snap. So he's going to be the play.
- 34:28But what's going to be more important?
- 34:30Is that, as you said, break or Nelson, needs to call a much
- 34:34better game than be called against wake for hooker to have
- 34:38that type of game as well. So hopefully that they're both
- 34:41in sync this week and hooker plays well and executes, and
- 34:46cornelison is calling a game that doesn't Make a bad
- 34:50situation worse. Like you did last week?
- 34:53Absolutely. Alright.
- 34:54Number two on the list. Brian something you already
- 34:57mentioned jet sweeps. We put Rahim Blackshear because
- 35:02I will say this last week in the Wake Forest game when the jet
- 35:08sweeps for called not deep down inside the Red Zone they were a
- 35:13very effective play it. They were they the only two
- 35:17times they didn't go positive when we were in shorts.
- 35:19In the end, all the others we saw what, like a 12 and then a
- 35:2210 yard gain and I think one more like six yard game so
- 35:27positive yardage. You know, for the Hokies where
- 35:31it's, that's really great to have.
- 35:33Because as you just pointed out, You said, you felt a couple of
- 35:38those Jet Sweep calls last week. They were strictly jet sweeps.
- 35:43There were no reads on it and we made it look like a hooker was
- 35:47just carrying out of fake, not actually reading, especially on
- 35:52the one. Unless T I did look like he was
- 35:55reading because the one that he gave to Blackshear inside the 10
- 35:59that just got completely ate up for like a seven-yard loss.
- 36:04If he keeps it, he walks into the The End Zone.
- 36:07Oh yeah. Got a blocker.
- 36:09And there's only one guy that stopped him and he's got space
- 36:11to maneuver, so we I think he wants in there.
- 36:15So let's see, completely misread there but he will.
- 36:18It looked like he wasn't even carrying out his fake strong.
- 36:20So I don't think it was a true re but I could be wrong.
- 36:25But that that's what I'm that's what's in my head based on what
- 36:28I saw there. So for Blackshear it's going to
- 36:30be two things here man. So I want us to start running
- 36:34more, 21 Personnel. We ran it some against weight
- 36:39especially when we had black shirt on the field on the jet
- 36:41ski. I want more of it and I want
- 36:44more three wide receiver sets versus some of the sets out
- 36:48there with Mitchell and Gallo. Just because I think I want to
- 36:56spread this defense out a little bit.
- 36:57They have two linebackers that are very good.
- 37:00I don't need more guys in the Box.
- 37:03Gumming up the running game. So I want to see three wide
- 37:07receiver sets. I want to see 21 Personnel where
- 37:09we can use Blackshear in the slot in the weighing and maybe
- 37:15even, you know, getting a traditional carry from the
- 37:17backfield and putting Herbert somewhere else.
- 37:19So there's so many options that you can do there.
- 37:21I know I've talked about it, probably ad nauseam at this
- 37:24point. Probably listeners are getting a
- 37:26little tired of broad, so I've done with 21 Personnel.
- 37:28No, no, what? No, we haven't found a
- 37:31consistent third wide receiver. Why not leave this guy on the
- 37:34feet? It's very true.
- 37:37And the other piece about you talk about running 21, running
- 37:40three wide sets and things like that brine.
- 37:42Is you noticed last week and this is something we, you didn't
- 37:46see it until a little further into reviewing the Wake Forest
- 37:50game later this week. A lot of our sets were what two
- 37:54main routes. We were keeping six and seven to
- 37:57a, do a Max protect where it's like, we're taking shots.
- 38:00And you're sitting here saying, A drove.
- 38:03You crazy because you knew to beat that team.
- 38:05We needed underneath. We needed to build a little
- 38:08pieces here and there into your point.
- 38:12They were loading the box, right?
- 38:14Well, if we had put Tre and even James and Rahim in some way and
- 38:20you force them to what if you still want to play in the box,
- 38:24that means you're leaving nobody behind you in the cases where
- 38:27what we were doing with putting gallo and Mitchell in.
- 38:31Is essentially. Well now you can still need one
- 38:34safety out back to help with the Deep passes.
- 38:38So yeah. Alright let's let's jump to
- 38:41number three on the offensive pivotal players brine.
- 38:43You mentioned earlier we mention them by name with Avery and
- 38:47Montgomery the dynamic inside linebacker Duo.
- 38:52Who's the third most important person in my life?
- 38:56Because I mean those are going to be the guys that are
- 39:04consistently throughout the game.
- 39:05So they're going to need to have a really good game for us to be
- 39:09able to have the big night. We're going to need in the
- 39:13running game to win this game, so I look for them.
- 39:16I mean, Hoffman in particular, he's going to be pivotal in.
- 39:19Not only neutralizing, the news, almost Please but also some of
- 39:23the handoffs in the zone where he's going to combo with a guard
- 39:28up to the up to a linebacker. So look for him to have a big
- 39:33game if we're going to have some success against this defense.
- 39:37You know we're also talking about Nestor HUD and unless the
- 39:42Smith needing to have some, some big games as well, depending on
- 39:44what iteration of the offensive line ends up out there whether
- 39:48it's too new to back at, right tackle or whether they go.
- 39:52Go back with with Nestor back at right tackle with HUD at Right
- 39:56Guard. So be interesting to see if
- 39:59there's any shifts there because you know we noted last week that
- 40:02new to had kind of a rough game. So I don't know if there's going
- 40:05to be more fidgeting around with those rotations or if they're
- 40:09going to stick with what they had and just chalk it up to two
- 40:12new, to still working his way back into the swing of things.
- 40:16Absolutely. Right.
- 40:17I think you put we put them on here too because of what you
- 40:20mentioned about This defense, it's not a good defensive line.
- 40:24The secondary has to take chances to be successful if the
- 40:28interior offensive line neutralizes Montgomery and
- 40:31Avery, then it could be a very long night for Louisville or if
- 40:36anything, they know they're going to be in a track meet
- 40:39against. Yeah.
- 40:41Let's look through the defensive side of the ball.
- 40:43Obviously number one, we gave it away earlier, but we'll still
- 40:47maintenance, you know? It was the first name.
- 40:50Brian mentioned about continually Italian Allen
- 40:52Tisdale. We talked about Tisdale, the
- 40:55reason I liked his day on this is because it's a linebacker
- 40:58that you can use in the spiral because of his athleticism
- 41:01versus having to take Connor or one of the safeties out of
- 41:04coverage in the zone. So I like that a little bit
- 41:07better and it's a guy that's kind of more in the middle of
- 41:11the defense versus kind of those Edge guys where they like to
- 41:15attack. So look for Tisdale to be key
- 41:18there in the spiral hopefully that comes to fruition in terms
- 41:22of what I The matchup is there because I think you would be
- 41:25perfect to kind of neutralize Cunningham in the quarterback
- 41:29run game. You know, we talked about second
- 41:33here is going to be those defensive backs man and it's
- 41:38funny when we went through this we were both like defensive back
- 41:42and I was like oh the corners yeah it makes sense and you know
- 41:44like know the defensive back I'm like the safeties.
- 41:48You're like no. Bonds basically say everybody in
- 41:53the backend and is more here saying, everyone's job.
- 41:59That has any deep responsibility in this game?
- 42:02Do not let 22 at will get behind you.
- 42:06That's what that's, that's the primary thing.
- 42:08If you if you do nothing else. I want the second thing I want
- 42:13you to do is tackle, but the first thing I want to do is not
- 42:15let 22 at will get behind you if you do those two things, well
- 42:19we're probably going to be okay. At least in the passing game.
- 42:24Absolutely right. Third one run and I think you
- 42:27probably put these on here because we are going to be
- 42:29missing a primary starter in Jerrod you in the first half,
- 42:34you know, with the targeting penalty, not going to be there
- 42:38but also we're reading Mike more of a Richmond Times saying it
- 42:43looks like the Sean Crawford is close to getting back.
- 42:47We'll also seeing that Kendricks could get to start to putting
- 42:50some more size up front and Why do you feel other than is it
- 42:55just is it just having Hewitt, not there for a half?
- 42:58Is that one reason you wanted to put them in this Slaughter?
- 43:00Is there some other reason to run?
- 43:02There's some other reasons, you know, we've kind of thrown it
- 43:06back and forth obviously Hewitt is our most experienced player.
- 43:10He's kind of the the juice guy on this team and Pollard is more
- 43:15of the he's athletic, but he's undersized.
- 43:18I'm interested to see how we get some of these bigger deal.
- 43:22Offensive tackles playing some more snaps for us because we've
- 43:25seen some success with with fuga.
- 43:28In there playing significant snaps.
- 43:31He's had success, essentially not getting moved out of the
- 43:34pocket of some of the gaps and some of the smaller guys have
- 43:39I'm interested to see how Kendricks and Crawford can hold
- 43:46up, is there more of the like 290?
- 43:50Not not quite what we're looking for.
- 43:52Probably in this newer scheme on the defensive side.
- 43:55But Closer than kind of our to Frontline guys have been so far
- 44:00this season so I'm hoping for maybe some more success with
- 44:04some of these bigger guys lining up in there.
- 44:06Hopefully they won't get moved off again.
- 44:08This is not, you know, a road grader type team.
- 44:14I'll call the the offensive line that we played against you and
- 44:16see kind of like a finesse Power Team.
- 44:19This is definitely more of a straight finesse team so I'm
- 44:24hoping that we're going to, we're going to have some success
- 44:25if it's Shooting those gaps, getting the penetration and
- 44:29making Hawkins not be able to get to the second level where he
- 44:33can really do some damage. So if we, if we can have some
- 44:36success there, I feel good about it.
- 44:37Like I said, he would not being in there is definitely a blow
- 44:41leadership wise and energy wise. But I'm hoping that some of the
- 44:46matchups that we have might end up being in our favor a little
- 44:49bit more, having more more size there in the interior.
- 44:54Got it wrong. All right.
- 44:56Well let's move on to get a prediction down here for the
- 44:59game. Brian, I led the last week fell
- 45:02flat on my face so I'm going to let you leave this week.
- 45:05All right. Thank you.
- 45:07Thank you. I think this is going to be at.
- 45:11I think it's going to be a tight one.
- 45:14I have faith in our offense is going to bounce back, so I think
- 45:20we're going to play a lot better game.
- 45:23A lot more sound football, not make the errors.
- 45:26I mean we had a combination of turnovers and penalties last
- 45:28week. We haven't really seen that in a
- 45:30long time. So give me the Hokies. 35:31.
- 45:42Let's put you down for 3531, for jigna tech line would is 3 right
- 45:49now. Rope hook, he's as a road,
- 45:51favorite Brian. First time for everything right?
- 46:00Yep well I can't do it because I can't because my face against
- 46:07the picking against a good guy, hope I'm wrong.
- 46:11Hope I'm wrong by a lot of points.
- 46:14But what I saw last week is when we got down in that red zone was
- 46:18atrocious and I think that's going to bite Us in the ass this
- 46:22week. I think we're going to move the
- 46:23ball more on them and they will on us.
- 46:26I just think we're going to come up short and have Brian Johnson,
- 46:30kicking field goals versus stuffing it in the end zone
- 46:33because we're going to do some stupid play calling inside the
- 46:3715 inside the 10 that backs us up or slows us down.
- 46:42And I hate saying that. I really do.
- 47:16And hopefully a joke on me because I don't want to be
- 47:23right. But that I've got to go with
- 47:27what I'm feeling and what I'm seeing and I want this team to
- 47:30prove it to me. Okay okay so you got Thirty One
- 47:35Thirty Thirty One Thirty Louisville.
- 47:37Thank you. See we're going to be and we're
- 47:38going three, touchdowns three field goals.
- 47:41Going to struggle, putting some of those drives away.
- 47:44We're going to get down there more.
- 47:46We are not going to convert as many times them.
- 47:48Okay? So you think they're going to be
- 47:49four out of five? Yep.
- 47:52Well, I don't know. You I think they're going to get
- 47:56at least one, maybe two deep balls.
- 47:59We saw it in Carolina. And that's okay, but I also
- 48:05think they're going to hit some more and get down there.
- 48:07When they get down, we're going to convert.
- 48:09We're going to get down there a lot more.
- 48:11We're just not going to convert because we're going to do
- 48:14something that doesn't make sense.
- 48:17There's going to be a play where we're sitting at the 4-yard line
- 48:20with first and goal and the interior line has been getting
- 48:25and just wiping out there inside linebackers and we're going to
- 48:27try like some fake tossed. We're going to go talk short
- 48:31side or toss and we just something that makes no sense.
- 48:36And and luckily, I will have to keep my my mouth.
- 48:42Kind of quiet. We will be going over to the
- 48:44In-laws to do a Halloween, candy hunt in the year.
- 48:51We'll get to watch the game but won't get the cursed loudly.
- 48:55All right, Braun, let's flip it, ACC pics.
- 48:58Let's do a recap real quick last week.
- 49:00Last week you came out, the gate firing 5 and 0 and then lost
- 49:05three straight games. Thanks to Miami.
- 49:09Thanks to Minnesota. And I think your third eye gamer
- 49:14who it was, but five and three hours forward and for saved late
- 49:18by Michigan. This week, we're going, we're
- 49:21going for in conference, three out of conference, some pretty
- 49:25good games. Some couple we got four double
- 49:28digit lines that we have to make a bet on this week Brahma.
- 49:31So it's gonna be really interesting.
- 49:33Let's start with the team. We just played there playing
- 49:36Syracuse this week staircase. Wake Forest, wait for slain ten
- 49:40and a half points. Brian since you are so gracious
- 49:44to lead the last one. I'm going to leave this one.
- 49:47Give me way and give me the points.
- 49:51I think Syracuse played the best they could play last weekend.
- 49:55I think they're going to come down a little bit.
- 49:57I think I think we force win this game by 17 with their sound
- 50:00defense, solid Run game and effective passing game.
- 50:06I am right there with you and there's zero recency bias
- 50:11attached to this /s. Yeah, so there's a little
- 50:15sarcasm. There are definitely some
- 50:17recently buys attached to you, there's no way for me to really
- 50:20separate that, but I still think wake is the better team and I
- 50:24think they're, at least a 13-point 13-point winter here.
- 50:29So give me wait and then points, Alright, the next game, the
- 50:36biggest spread of the week were picking Boston College, Clemson
- 50:41Clemson, laying 17 points less than last week, but laying still
- 50:4530 and a half points against BC. Brian, what are you feeling on
- 50:51this one? Clemson Clemson, Clemson.
- 51:26Yeah, I think about a half where they were never pressed, but it
- 51:37was closer than they wanted it to be.
- 51:38So I think they come out a lot more Focus this week, I'm going
- 51:43to take Clemson laying the 30 and a half me too.
- 51:46Well, I think also, what BC likes to do plays into what
- 51:49Clemson Frank, there's this year, which is their secondary.
- 51:52So, yeah, I think your coach is going to have a pretty rough
- 51:55game. Both of us laying the 30 and a
- 51:57half at Clemson. All right, Brian, we have
- 52:00another big line here at Notre, Dame.
- 52:05Notre Dame laying 20 points now. Brian, Georgia, Tech has burned.
- 52:12You numerous times this year numerous times of late Notre,
- 52:17Dame is also burned. the two teams that I think the most
- 52:26unpredictable, even though Notre Dame on the top end on the
- 52:29beneficial side, in terms of still, still winning the game
- 52:32but not convincingly and then Georgia Tech, you know, beating
- 52:36a team like Whew. FSU and Louisville but just
- 52:42getting smoked by a team like Syracuse, so it doesn't make
- 52:48sense. But I do say this, I do think
- 52:52because of Notre, Dame's defense has been its one consistent all
- 52:57year. One consistent all year, less
- 53:00the FSU game with the new quarterback where they hadn't
- 53:03had any tape. They really want, given up a lot
- 53:06of points. I think they can cover this.
- 53:09I really think I see them like running 31, you know, 31 10:35,
- 53:16you know, 14. So I wasn't vote of no
- 53:18confidence in Georgia Tech's offense.
- 53:22Notre Dame is just to sound of a defense with the not athletes.
- 53:26You know, that's that's the issue were George.
- 53:30You're essentially saying Notre Dame's going to get to 28 and
- 53:35Georgia Tech. I'm like, I'm right there with
- 53:42you, buddy. What do you think that?
- 54:17Just seems like a low-lying. What is UVA done anywhere?
- 54:23Anything to be impressive. And somebody said, well, they
- 54:25kept Miami to 19 points that game was in a monsoon and Miami
- 54:32continue to drive the ball. Every time they touched it, The
- 54:38one thing and let's talk about this a little bit.
- 54:40What's been the one thing that's really her tva's defense?
- 54:43Most of this season? If you watch any other games,
- 54:48what's been different this year that they that they couldn't
- 54:51that they were really good at last year that they're not
- 54:53really great at this year. That's rough.
- 54:57I'm thinking, okay, what, what is Miami not do?
- 55:04Well, well, there, there an air raid, there it is.
- 55:27Other than one game, you looked pretty good to great.
- 55:37I hate both of these things, but I'm taking you and see laying
- 55:40the seven I'm with you two. I don't see.
- 55:45I just don't see how it's a seven.
- 55:47And you can say, well, you know, they did lose to Florida State.
- 55:52Well. Okay.
- 55:54But What a state least has some athletes on the outside and
- 56:00athletic quarterback. I mean UVA We Lay last weekend,
- 56:05they burned us because they got that touchdown late.
- 56:07I think we were it was they got to 12 and Miami would keep
- 56:13getting down there. Like okay here comes the score
- 56:15that we're going to get back to over 12 and a half and they did.
- 56:19UVA. I don't think UNC has beat both
- 56:22programs like it in the state both times.
- 56:26I think they will this year lay the sudden points.
- 56:30And and just try to figure out why it is that low.
- 56:34All right, Brian, let's go out of conference.
- 56:36Let's head over to the state of Texas versus Oklahoma State.
- 56:45Oklahoma state is only lying, three and a half.
- 56:48We got the hook last week, the hook got us.
- 56:51They won that game by 3. I believe Iowa, state scored a
- 56:55late, something to get it back with them.
- 56:58And I'm going to go back and look up that because, you know,
- 57:00I was doing stuff during that game will primarily I was over
- 57:08my neighbor's yard during that game last week.
- 57:10What am I talking about? But let me look here.
- 57:13Yes, Iowa. With 49 seconds, left scored a
- 57:16touchdown to beat this friend. Be the bad B&B.
- 57:22I will state has a good defense, right?
- 57:24We agree Matt Campbell pretty good.
- 57:26Defense has Texas. Anybody this year.
- 57:31No, the they stop Baylor and yeah, Baylor's covid riddled the
- 57:39other games that Texas has played.
- 57:41They gave up 53 to Oklahoma, they gave up 33 to TCU.
- 57:45They gave up 56. To Texas Tech second.
- 57:53Wait a second, still scoring on them.
- 58:00I think they take the Longhorns to the shed.
- 58:04Maybe this could be it for Herman.
- 58:08This could be the game that if he loses.
- 58:10I don't think they fire them until the end of the year
- 58:13because of the money situations, but I think Oklahoma State here.
- 58:18We are agreeing a lot here, buddy, and I'm okay with that
- 58:21because it's better than me, right?
- 58:23Then be interesting for the last couple weeks, but that's right.
- 58:35You know, I'm right there with you, that is awful.
- 58:46I just don't think Texas has enough on offense to keep up
- 58:49with what a few States going to do to that defense.
- 58:52So yeah, I'll take Okie State. Lay the three and a half, man.
- 58:57All right. I think it's probably closer
- 58:59than the experts. Think, some people that are
- 59:01talking about this game, but I think it's like a touchdown know
- 59:06that I've found you both teams break 30.
- 59:10Yeah, I'd say like 35 42 somewhere in that range.
- 59:18I'm trying to see some here and give me a second it's a for it's
- 59:22a four pm game. So won't be seeing that one or
- 59:27maybe we'll be seeing that one alone watching the hope.
- 59:29He's alright let's go to SEC country next.
- 59:31Brian Auburn LSU LSU Lane three points.
- 59:39What do you think? Brian this one's tough and
- 59:45neither team has really been great this year relative to kind
- 59:49of what people were kind of putting on them to start the
- 59:52season. I think we had a lot of
- 59:55questions about LSU. I think Auburn's, probably
- 59:57underperformed relative to what we kind of thought we were going
- 59:59to be especially after week one. I'm going to take actually
- 1:00:06Auburn to win this one out, right?
- 1:00:11Ryan takes Auburn. Not so fast.
- 1:00:15You are out of your mind on this.
- 1:00:20Have you not seen how many games that Auburn has won because of
- 1:00:24the officiating? I have you have, do you think
- 1:00:31that they want a team ranked by the name of LSU in a few weeks
- 1:00:37when LSU goes and plays? Alabama, they certainly would
- 1:00:44prefer that. Yes, yes, they would.
- 1:00:46And I don't care if this is on the planes or not, unless you
- 1:00:50scored 52 last week against a better defensive team in South
- 1:00:54Carolina, this Is my legal limit.
- 1:00:56That right here. I see LSU winning this one, at
- 1:01:01least by 17. Wow,
- 1:01:26Can score points on LSU. So kind of all bets are off.
- 1:01:31It is, but that offense down at Auburn hasn't done too, too
- 1:01:34much. So, do you say Auburn wins out,
- 1:01:37right? I see, LSU wins.
- 1:01:39Big covers. All right, let's get the big
- 1:01:42thing country. Next, fine for really, what is
- 1:01:44the game of the week Penn State? Ohio State in Happy Valley,
- 1:01:48which whether you love Penn State, hate Penn State.
- 1:01:53Love Ohio, State hate principal Truth regardless regardless
- 1:01:58whether you love them or hate them, this game usually Penn
- 1:02:02State would be the whiteout thing which is it cool ass
- 1:02:06tradition in again covid this year?
- 1:02:10That's the stuff we're missing. That's true.
- 1:02:12Are you going to get back to? Because as much as we dislike
- 1:02:18both programs, if somebody said we got tickets, you guys can go
- 1:02:22to both of these stadiums and we'd look into say, well, what's
- 1:02:26Virginia Tech's game? One of they playing does it
- 1:02:28over? No, we go in a heartbeat.
- 1:02:32So for this one, Bryan, Ohio State Road.
- 1:02:38Favorite. Usually, he rode favorite.
- 1:02:42You think what? Field goal maybe touchdown.
- 1:02:46Yeah, eleven and a half. That is so many points.
- 1:02:54That is because of that and how Penn State likely will play this
- 1:03:00game. I think Penn State can keep it
- 1:03:03close enough. I think Ohio State's going to
- 1:03:04win probably by either Polly, I'd say by ten points.
- 1:03:09So I'm going to be cutting it close, but I think Penn State
- 1:03:12stays with them, you know, last week we saw during that Ohio
- 1:03:18State Nebraska game, the pieces. I saw a lot of targeting
- 1:03:23penalties on Nebraska getting rid of some of their better
- 1:03:26players on the back end. I think that's not cleaned up,
- 1:03:30but I just think just kind of game.
- 1:03:32They swallow the whistles a little bit more.
- 1:03:33Give me Penn State late, eleven and a half.
- 1:03:37Okay, okay, I'm right there with you, man.
- 1:03:47We have one disagreement. And State plays with a chip this
- 1:04:09week after that, last second. Oh, holy shit game of inches
- 1:04:17moment that they lost to little last week.
- 1:04:20I mean, and there were some coaching issues on there in
- 1:04:24terms of how it like managing clock at the end of the game.
- 1:04:26And Areas where they're not taking a knee.
- 1:04:31Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:04:33They're so there's a lot of a lot of problems that that led to
- 1:04:39Indiana getting the opportunity, which they took full advantage
- 1:04:42of once they did get the opportunity there.
- 1:04:44So I think Penn State cleans up those things and I think they
- 1:04:49keep it closed. Think it's like somewhere
- 1:04:52between a six and eight point victory for OSU, but I don't
- 1:04:56think it's it's Meats that 11 to half line.
- 1:04:59So give me Penn State. I'll take them 11, a half again,
- 1:05:03so our state. All right, we'll look it down.
- 1:05:08Alright. Alright.
- 1:05:10What you smoking seeing this weekend?
- 1:05:13Alright. This weekend I'm doing some
- 1:05:15spatchcock chicken. Go on going.
- 1:05:18Just going just smoking a spatchcock.
- 1:05:20Chicken. Stir It Up.
- 1:05:22Probably going to do some some fun size with it.
- 1:05:24Maybe some smoked baked beans to go along on the side, but going
- 1:05:30to keep it more simple this weekend.
- 1:05:34Nothing. Nothing too crazy.
- 1:05:36I'd always loved doing spatchcock.
- 1:05:38Chicken. The cooks pretty quick, pretty
- 1:05:41even get some chicken so good, with some smoked flavor in
- 1:05:44there. So any foul usually, usually
- 1:05:48takes them over really. Well, always does, man, although
- 1:05:51he does anything breaking in the last hour or so that we've been
- 1:05:55recording. Oh man, I don't see anything of
- 1:06:01no, I think we're good. I did see a couple people
- 1:06:05including myself debating, whether mac and cheese belongs
- 1:06:09on a, on a plate. And I'm definitely in the hell.
- 1:06:12Yes, category on a plate. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:06:17So Yeah, that's still like, the traditional, like soul food
- 1:06:23plate. You got some fried chicken mac
- 1:06:24and cheese, collard green cornbread, and someone's like,
- 1:06:27take the mac and cheese off the plate.
- 1:06:29No way. No, no, no, there's a debate
- 1:06:38about The fans Bachelor podcast. Always put the mac and cheese on
- 1:06:45the plate. So alright.
- 1:06:48Alright, there we go. Well, that will wrap up this
- 1:06:52episode of The Boundary Corner podcast.
