- 0:06of scintillating energy, even you. I'm Diane Goldner, an internationally
- 0:12known healer, intuitive, and author. Join me as we explore
- 0:17the energy and consciousness that creates your reality. I'm here
- 0:22to help you heal and awaken with Energy Medicine. Welcome
- 0:31to Energy Medicine. I'm your host, Diane Goldner, and today
- 0:35we have Jim Kempner back with us again. Jim Kempner
- 0:38is a psychologist, an author, and a healer. He's a
- 0:42Gestalt therapist with an expertise in trauma recovery, and he's
- 0:47also been an energy healer for more than four decades.
- 0:50He's the author of Body Process and Healing Tasks, and
- 0:55also a the founder of Pathways for Healing and Nervous
- 0:59System Energy Work. And there's one more thing I want
- 1:02to mention because we're going to be talking about that today,
- 1:06and that is he's the author of some amazing memoirs
- 1:10about upon a time in France, including About Time. And so, Jim,
- 1:16let's just dive right back in. I think it's really
- 1:18wonderful that you're open about all these esoteric things.
- 1:24Speaker 2: I mean, I'm out of the closet and all this stuff.
- 1:27Speaker 1: Yeah. Did that take a while? That's an interesting term,
- 1:32out of the closet, because I had literally that experience
- 1:37where I finished my book, and I was like, okay,
- 1:41I'm going to go back and get a job as
- 1:43a magazine person. But I was promoting my book, and
- 1:46I was on the radio, and I'd been on one
- 1:49show a few times before. And the host knew that
- 1:54I was able to do healings. And he was like, Diane,
- 1:57when are you going to say, when are you going
- 1:59to admit that? And he was a wonderful guy. And
- 2:05he was gay. And he outed me.
- 2:07Speaker 2: He outed you. That's great. Literally outed you.
- 2:11Speaker 1: He literally outed me as a healer on the radio show.
- 2:15Speaker 2: Well, I have to say that in terms of energy
- 2:18work in general, I had been out. I had been
- 2:22using energy work in teaching in the gestalt realm, you know, working.
- 2:28That was just part of how I worked. And Carol
- 2:32and I have been teaching workshops and trainings and energy
- 2:35work for years. So I was certainly out in that way.
- 2:40People could go to that website, which was a little
- 2:43different than my gestalt website. And I was kind of,
- 2:47you know, I had a foot in both worlds. I
- 2:50think what I had to really come out with, or
- 2:54my wife said, yeah, finally you've come out, was when
- 2:57I published About Time and this whole thing about remembering
- 3:02this past life. That was like, okay, this may totally
- 3:08blow a lot of people's image of me as, okay,
- 3:13he's really respectable person. Gestalt therapist, and he's written two
- 3:18kind of classic books in the field. He's okay, even
- 3:23though he does energy work, kind of. And now it's like, whoa,
- 3:28what happened to Jim Kepner?
- 3:30Speaker 1: Yeah. So how were you able to have the courage?
- 3:34It does take courage, right, to come out with your
- 3:38truth sometimes.
- 3:41Speaker 2: Yeah, I think it helps that I'm older. Okay. And
- 3:45I've met my kind of mainstream career ambitions and been there,
- 3:52done that. So in that sense, I'm not going to
- 3:56like ruin my reputation.
- 3:57Speaker 1: You don't feel like you have a lot to lose
- 3:59on one hand.
- 4:01Speaker 2: But I think, but it's, you know, it's certainly there's
- 4:05a feeling of vulnerability to kind of go, I'm putting
- 4:08out stuff that is very dear to me, important. And also,
- 4:13I mean, as a writer... I hadn't written books like
- 4:17this before I'd done professional books. It's a very different
- 4:20thing than writing a prose narrative memoir.
- 4:24Speaker 1: Yeah. It reads like a novel.
- 4:27Speaker 2: Thank you. Thank you.
- 4:29Speaker 1: Yeah. That's very powerful too.
- 4:32Speaker 2: I'm glad. I'm really glad it impacted you that way.
- 4:34Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 4:35Speaker 2: Yeah. So I had to teach myself that. And then,
- 4:39you know, it's at some point you just, you have
- 4:41to kind of step into that light and say, you know,
- 4:45I wasn't given this really detailed set of memories for
- 4:51no reason. It's not like some spiritual attainment to have
- 4:57past life memories. I don't think. Yeah. I think, you know,
- 5:03if I had all this detail and I was compelled
- 5:06to write this, it had to be so that it
- 5:10could affect others in some way.
- 5:12Speaker 1: It was very powerful. Let's talk about it for a
- 5:15minute because people don't, you know, unless they've read the book,
- 5:18they won't know. So I'm going to give a little description,
- 5:21but I'd like you to add to it because, so
- 5:24it's about a boy, I forget what period of time,
- 5:28what is the year?
- 5:29Speaker 2: In the mid-1400s.
- 5:32Speaker 1: Okay, so he's been orphaned by the plague. And ends
- 5:36up in a chateau with— he was a master, not just
- 5:40the master of a chateau, right, but the master of
- 5:43the psychic arts.
- 5:45Speaker 2: Of the alchemy, yeah.
- 5:46Speaker 1: Of the alchemy and the spiritual. And he brings you along, right? Yeah.
- 5:52That's the essence of the book. And Rosalind is in
- 5:55there because she's the abbess. But there's also an amazing— considering
- 5:59your work as a trauma therapist— This is especially, I
- 6:05was just like, wow, it was so powerful in the
- 6:07book because you describe a very traumatic incident where this
- 6:13boy is brutally abused, not for his own sake, but
- 6:19to send a message to the master. So the dark
- 6:23forces have, you know, descended on this boy and physically
- 6:29brutalize him, sexually brutalize him. And because he's in this
- 6:34group with really amazingly adept spiritual people, the Abbas, who's
- 6:40a healer, and he doesn't really even understand how all
- 6:44the shame is lifted from him, but he's restored.
- 6:48Speaker 2: Yeah, so she, in the book, my life as Etienne,
- 6:54and this was still probably early on when I was
- 6:59adopted by Edouard, Yeah. Maestro, I called him.
- 7:03Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah.
- 7:04Speaker 2: We all called him. One of the things that Duarte
- 7:07was part of an order, as was the abbess, that
- 7:09was kind of combating the dark sorcerers of that time.
- 7:15There was a lot of dark magic going on.
- 7:18Speaker 1: Just darkness in general, right?
- 7:20Speaker 2: Darkness in general. And a lot of darkness in the
- 7:23church and so on. So in some of the, one
- 7:27of the dark sorcerers that Edward was kind of helping
- 7:32to combat through the order, decided to send him a
- 7:36message by brutalizing me. Yeah. But one of the things
- 7:42that happened was the abbess came to me in dreams.
- 7:51Speaker 1: Yes.
- 7:52Speaker 2: So I was attended by her and by two of
- 7:56the nuns who were healers that she had done. But
- 8:02where the healing came was she would enter into my
- 8:06dreams and things would happen in the dreams, which I
- 8:10described in one of the scenes in the book, and
- 8:14kind of led me out of the trauma in the dreams. Yes.
- 8:23And gradually kind of brought me back into reclaiming something
- 8:28of my lost life. soul, as it were.
- 8:31Speaker 1: So in my experience, those kinds of dreams are really
- 8:35not just dreams. They're another dimension of, I'm just going
- 8:40to go there for everybody because I've had, I've experienced
- 8:44those dreams and occasionally client tells me that I've been
- 8:48to see them, but it's another dimension of reality, a
- 8:52soul dimension. And it's very real. And what happens in
- 8:57that is even more real than what happens in the physical,
- 9:00in a sense, right? I imagine in the case with Rosalind,
- 9:04she was praying and doing other work, not just when
- 9:08she was with you, but at other times. And then
- 9:12you would experience it as that dream where she was,
- 9:15because you should.
- 9:16Speaker 2: Yes, and it's those kind of dreams when someone is
- 9:20deliberately entering into your dream for healing. It's like, you know,
- 9:27You have your dreaming in what seems like normal dreams,
- 9:31and then it's like it shifts. It's like there's a
- 9:34segue into something that is very specific and very different
- 9:40in nature.
- 9:41Speaker 1: And meaningful.
- 9:42Speaker 2: And I know Rosalind.
- 9:43Speaker 1: You know it's meaningful.
- 9:45Speaker 2: Yes, you know there's something else going on. So it's
- 9:49interesting that you remembered that whole part of it. Oh, yeah.
- 9:53Speaker 1: It really struck me deeply.
- 9:56Speaker 2: And so there was a lot of that kind of...
- 10:00I'd say, magical forms of healing in that life, particularly
- 10:04from the abbess and then later from two of the
- 10:07nuns that there's a big ceremony that they did before I,
- 10:13as Etienne, was going off to study elsewhere. So a
- 10:18lot of ceremonial kinds of... healing forms. That, you know,
- 10:24it was a very different time and the whole kind
- 10:28of orientation towards healing was also very different.
- 10:31Speaker 1: Do you think?
- 10:33Speaker 2: I do.
- 10:34Speaker 1: How do you think that is? I mean, on the
- 10:36face of it, I don't know if I agree.
- 10:38Speaker 2: Well, I think there was a whole range, certainly. There
- 10:43was a whole range, you know, everything from herbalists and
- 10:46herbal healing and people who had hands-on work or people
- 10:51who scribed, you know, the auric field or that kind
- 10:54of thing.
- 10:56Speaker 1: I think.
- 10:58Speaker 2: Some of the experiences that I recalled and wrote about,
- 11:02that really were more ceremonial in nature, but much closer
- 11:09to what we might know about from contact with, say,
- 11:12indigenous healers here. I think of some of the Navajo
- 11:16healings I've read about. And that really tapped some very
- 11:22big kind of forces, more kind of fundamental forces, deific forces,
- 11:30if you will. And I think that's not your day-to-day healing. Certainly,
- 11:35I pray. Certainly, I'm opening myself to the divine as
- 11:40much as I can.
- 11:41Speaker 1: Yeah, yes.
- 11:43Speaker 2: But things that happen in a really whomped-up, big field...
- 11:49that reach into big archetypal realms, that's not a common
- 11:54kind of form of healing. And those are some of
- 11:57the things that kind of, I think that may be
- 12:00why those workshops with Rosalind tapped into my memories of
- 12:06this in part. I'm just thinking of this now. Because
- 12:12in those big group fields, she tapped into some big forces.
- 12:19Speaker 1: I understand why you're saying that. I don't know. I
- 12:22have a slightly.
- 12:23Speaker 2: Say more about what you're thinking about.
- 12:26Speaker 1: I feel like I've experienced, not just with Rosen, but
- 12:31with other people. And I think, you know, when we
- 12:35pray a lot, we are invoking very big forces too,
- 12:40even if we don't always see them. Do you know
- 12:43what I mean? I think we're opening a... We can
- 12:46open a really big field. I'm interested... So was it
- 12:51shocking to start remembering your past incarnation?
- 12:58Speaker 2: Well, I'll tell you the thing that was most shocking
- 13:00because as I worked with Rosalyn and I'd always wanted
- 13:06past life memories and never, under no circumstances did they
- 13:10happen and I kind of gave up. And then as
- 13:14I was exposed more to her and energy work in particular,
- 13:20Then on the healing table, like with my friend working
- 13:24on me, I would occasionally kind of things like, oh,
- 13:26I could see myself as this really different person. Yeah.
- 13:31And the things, the area she was working on. Oh,
- 13:36I could see that I had a withered arm in
- 13:38that life and things like that. So I had these
- 13:41small experiences and they accumulated. Yeah. But, you know, I'm
- 13:46a psychologist and. good rational boy, a Jewish boy, you know, and,
- 13:50you know, it could be just my metaphor for the physical. Right.
- 13:56Or and at some point I just kind of said, oh,
- 13:58you know, I I take dreams seriously. These are no
- 14:02different than dreams. They're my experience. I don't have to
- 14:06prove them to anyone.
- 14:07Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 14:07Speaker 2: Right. It was a way of kind of holding it
- 14:10all a little at bay. Right. A little at bay
- 14:13without upsetting my intellect too much. When this incident happened
- 14:26where Rosalind did this big piece of work and I
- 14:31saw this figure kind of flash across, you know, and
- 14:35he had a very particular purple cloak and feather on
- 14:38his hat and no idea.
- 14:41Speaker 1: That was Eduardo?
- 14:43Speaker 2: That was Eduard.
- 14:44Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 14:44Speaker 2: And so... At the end of this big healing ceremony
- 14:48that she did for someone, I kind of said, Rosen,
- 14:52I don't know who this was, but I'm supposed to
- 14:53tell you. That's all I know. She kind of went, oh.
- 15:00And she did something, which I'd never seen her do
- 15:03spontaneously like this. Usually when she channeled, it was very formal.
- 15:09She closed her eyes. She clearly left her body and
- 15:13someone came in and started talking. And gave this, what
- 15:18people tell me, was a really interesting lecture about things.
- 15:24And I was, I heard nothing because I felt like
- 15:29I was rung like a bell.
- 15:31Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 15:33Speaker 2: And when she finished, or this person finished, and she,
- 15:39you know, and Rosalind came back into her body and said, well,
- 15:41that was interesting. And I'm sitting there with tears streaming
- 15:45down my face.
- 15:46Speaker 1: Mm-hmm.
- 15:47Speaker 2: And these memories cascading about this time in France with
- 15:53the maestro. That's all I knew at the time.
- 15:55Speaker 1: Mm-hmm.
- 15:58Speaker 2: But here's the thing that really got me. All right,
- 16:01this is pretty powerful and very emotional, but I'm in
- 16:05a room of 60 people, 70 people. And all around
- 16:08the room, there's people having their own memories of the
- 16:13same time period.
- 16:15Speaker 1: Mm-hmm.
- 16:18Speaker 2: Well, my brain went, when we all collected together and
- 16:22talked about this. Oh, my God. Oh, I can't just
- 16:25call this my fantasy.
- 16:27Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 16:30Speaker 2: So that was.
- 16:32Speaker 1: That is mind blowing, right? But it is. I mean,
- 16:35we come back. You know, Rose and I had this
- 16:38conversation recently that there's no point in remembering a past
- 16:43life per se. And you said the same thing. And
- 16:47I would agree. It's really because it's information about your
- 16:52soul's purpose and your soul's journey, right? So what does
- 16:58that tell you about your soul's purpose and journey through time, right?
- 17:06It's not just this time, right?
- 17:08Speaker 2: Edouard uses the phrase, he actually said to me, you're
- 17:13not here to remember past lives. You're here to get
- 17:17a glimpse. Of the curious project of your soul.
- 17:22Speaker 1: Yes. Getting chills.
- 17:29Speaker 2: I have a lot of ideas about what that project is,
- 17:32but I really think that phrase operates, for me, as
- 17:37a kind of Zen koan. It's like the unanswerable thing. Yeah.
- 17:41How can I know what the curious project of my
- 17:43soul is? Well, in a way, I can't.
- 17:47Speaker 1: But in a way, memory gives you a clue, right?
- 17:51There's a flow through in the theme.
- 17:56Speaker 2: Right. There's themes. So we get a glimpse. And it's
- 18:00not always what we think it is, but we start
- 18:04to see outlines and themes. And I think we develop
- 18:12a sense of knowing. And that our soul has a
- 18:18trail here. And it's hard to say too much more
- 18:26about it than that.
- 18:28Speaker 1: You know, I had some experiences before. In addition to
- 18:33the one where you were talking about it, and I
- 18:35realized I had been there too. Even though that wasn't
- 18:40the same time everyone else had that. I was like, oh, wow.
- 18:45But I have had other spontaneous memories when I've encountered
- 18:50certain people, I guess, where there was a particular... And
- 18:56I don't think I would be so shocked now, maybe.
- 18:59But at the time, it was very... It was kind
- 19:03of like, I'm just going to share this with people.
- 19:05For me, it was like a movie playing. At the
- 19:09same time you're in this space, you're seeing a movie.
- 19:12But it was also like the continuity is kind of
- 19:16almost the same as remembering when you were in high school.
- 19:21It's not like you're so different. You're a little different,
- 19:25at least. time has passed, no pun intended. But that
- 19:31essence of who you are really is very, in my experience,
- 19:36there's some, it's very continuous. I find that very comforting.
- 19:41And I'm sharing this because I feel a lot of
- 19:46people are so afraid of death. And I'm about that
- 19:50in other podcasts. But from my experience, I know the
- 19:55soul continues because I remember other times when I was
- 20:01in a different time.
- 20:03Speaker 2: Yeah, I think, you know, I agree. I think the
- 20:07soul continues. The personality doesn't. And I think that's... You
- 20:13don't think so?
- 20:13Speaker 1: I feel like my personality isn't that different.
- 20:17Speaker 2: I think there are certainly qualities we carry. I would say,
- 20:20for example.
- 20:21Speaker 1: You think you're very different than Etienne?
- 20:23Speaker 2: You know, there's a lot of ways in which I'm
- 20:25very different than Etienne, yes. I'm very much an introvert.
- 20:30I mean, very introverted. Yeah. And Etienne was much more,
- 20:36I think, extroverted than... And much more adventurous rather than
- 20:40anxious than I am.
- 20:43Speaker 1: He wasn't Jewish in that life.
- 20:45Speaker 2: He was not Jewish in that life. That's right. But
- 20:50I also think, well, I'm here to write. Since I
- 20:59was in fifth grade, that was important to me to
- 21:02learn to be a writer. And I think these books are...
- 21:08than outcome of like, I'm supposed to be writing these,
- 21:13you know, not that people should remember their past life,
- 21:16but they, something should resonate for them, whether they've remembered
- 21:21anything or not. And so you don't become a writer by, uh,
- 21:30I mean, it takes a lot of time sitting alone.
- 21:34Speaker 1: You know? Yeah, I do know.
- 21:37Speaker 2: You know, maybe you're more social than I, but boy.
- 21:41Speaker 1: What's that?
- 21:42Speaker 2: Maybe you're more social than I am, but boy, you know,
- 21:45you got to put up with being alone a lot
- 21:49and circling a lot of things for a long time.
- 21:52And this life, I'm suited for that.
- 21:56Speaker 1: Okay.
- 21:57Speaker 2: Etienne was different in that way. And then there's other
- 22:02things that are very similar. So, you know, there's those.
- 22:07Speaker 1: But you're both, you know, adepts, right?
- 22:12Speaker 2: I think he was, I was more adept in that
- 22:14life than I am now.
- 22:15Speaker 1: Oh, I don't know about that.
- 22:20Speaker 2: I joke in the book about time that sometimes I
- 22:24feel like I'm in the like remedial course for the soul.
- 22:28Like I remember lives in which I certainly seem more
- 22:32spiritually advanced than I've than I am now and so
- 22:37what did I did I fail a course or something.
- 22:52Speaker 1: Do you think it's more like you know you think
- 22:55back and you when you look back at something like
- 22:58even in this life you have everything has a rosy
- 23:02glow Do you know what I mean? Like, so you
- 23:06have this idea that Etienne is more advanced than you
- 23:09because it's sort of.
- 23:10Speaker 2: Oh, interesting.
- 23:12Speaker 1: You know, you're not looking at all the little weeds
- 23:16anymore or the challenges.
- 23:17Speaker 2: That's true. For the distance. I mean, I certainly see
- 23:23a lot of the flaws that I had then as Etienne.
- 23:28I think really... It's the wrong way to look at it,
- 23:33like as if there's some linear kind of progress. That's
- 23:37a very modern notion. And I think we project that
- 23:42into our notion of things like karma and soul evolution.
- 23:47Speaker 1: I think it's more like a vine.
- 23:48Speaker 2: The soul's not concerned about progress.
- 23:50Speaker 1: It's more like a vine, isn't it? Where it's not
- 23:54as straight up or straight this way.
- 23:57Speaker 2: It's... Yeah, that's a vine or that the soul is
- 24:02working on its own things. And sometimes it looks from
- 24:07our personality like we went sideways or we went back.
- 24:13But the soul's path, there's the thread in it. It's
- 24:18working on something that maybe doesn't meet how I look
- 24:23at progress or something from this personality. you know, with
- 24:29all these modern notions of it. But it's there, and
- 24:34it pushes me to look deeper into what is this
- 24:39project of my soul. It's not like my modern notions
- 24:44of achievement. You know, I've got advanced degrees. That seemed
- 24:48like progress to me, but that's not what my soul's about.
- 24:52Speaker 1: What is your soul about?
- 24:53Speaker 2: Oh, boy. The bigger project of healing. And I think,
- 24:59which kind of moves me to think of it that way,
- 25:02you know, I'm very, I have a small project of
- 25:04healing in this life, doing hands-on work, and I love
- 25:07energy work, and I love all of that. But if
- 25:11I look at my time with Etienne and what I
- 25:15know about other times, there was a bigger project of
- 25:19healing societies in some of that. There was the project
- 25:29of healing on magical dimensions or other dimensions of energy
- 25:35that were very, very important in some of those other
- 25:40lives that are not as much of where I'm focused now.
- 25:44But it's like....
- 25:47Speaker 1: But each soul that you heal, each soul that you
- 25:50help is moving the collective forward.
- 25:57Speaker 2: I certainly... Have faith that that's true. And so I
- 26:02think I could say my soul seems to have participated
- 26:06in a bunch of different levels and dimensions of healing
- 26:12in all sorts of different forms. So that seems to
- 26:15be a big theme.
- 26:16Speaker 1: Yes, I think so. That's the flow through I see
- 26:20for you. Yeah.
- 26:23Speaker 2: I'm glad to have it seen. I mean, because... We're
- 26:27always reaching for it, right?
- 26:29Speaker 1: It's interesting to me that you said, I think there's
- 26:32more parallels between that time and this time than I
- 26:36think you see. Maybe. Because when you talk about that
- 26:40time and the dark forces, honestly, I feel there's still
- 26:47a lot of darkness in the world. Oh, yeah. I mean,
- 26:51everyone who's had a traumatic experience with some intention behind it,
- 26:56has experienced some kind of darkness, right? Just on that
- 27:00personal level. And then we see the brutality of some
- 27:03of the regimes out there.
- 27:06Speaker 2: Including, don't mean to be, you know, political, but including
- 27:10the current one, because what's, you know, has promoted a
- 27:14lot of brutality.
- 27:15Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 27:15Speaker 2: You know, you can argue about things like what you know,
- 27:20our immigration policies and all that, but the treatment of
- 27:23people has been brutal.
- 27:25Speaker 1: Yes, I would agree with that. It's brutal. I would agree.
- 27:28Speaker 2: So that's, you know, as you say, it's still there.
- 27:31Speaker 1: And brutality isn't required for enforcement.
- 27:36Speaker 2: Right, but there it is.
- 27:38Speaker 1: I agree.
- 27:39Speaker 2: Right, so we're still, you know, we're still struggling as
- 27:44a species to kind of deal with ourselves.
- 27:48Speaker 1: Yeah, it seems like that's a never-ending story. Maybe that's
- 27:51your third book. Maybe you're still going to go back
- 27:57to working on the societal level. You never know.
- 28:01Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 28:03Speaker 1: You know, the other thing that I did want to
- 28:05bring up is you had mentioned that you've struggled with
- 28:09chronic fatigue. And I don't know if you'd like to share...
- 28:16I have my own ideas about it, but I'm not
- 28:19living that. I've done healing.
- 28:23Speaker 2: I don't have any great solutions. I think it's a
- 28:28problem that I call it, by the way, now, it's
- 28:33long something. We have long COVID.
- 28:36Speaker 1: Yes.
- 28:37Speaker 2: Well, chronic fatigue is long something, meaning some unidentified virus.
- 28:43We know that because... the symptoms are almost identical with
- 28:49some variations. So, you know, that's the only reason there's
- 28:54now any research in chronic fatigue is because of long
- 28:57COVID money. For years, it's been neglected. So I have
- 29:02to say, I don't have any great energy, you know,
- 29:06cures for it. One of the reasons that the work
- 29:10with Rosalind was so important to me was it was
- 29:14crucial in giving me something that pulled me out of
- 29:20some of the worst of the chronic fatigue and gave
- 29:23me a platform to work from. It didn't cure it, though. Yeah.
- 29:27Speaker 1: You know, the limited experience I've had working with people
- 29:30with chronic fatigue, two things. One is it's exhausting. You know,
- 29:35you put your hands on somebody who's really in the
- 29:38throes of chronic fatigue and you just want to take
- 29:40a nap while you're doing the healing. Because I'm feeling,
- 29:45I'm very, you know, clairsentient.
- 29:48Speaker 2: Especially if you're an empath. Yeah. It can be hard.
- 29:50Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah. But the other thing that I've noticed, and again,
- 29:53this is a very limited experience, experience, but underneath the exhaustion,
- 29:58the system is working too hard. It's in a very,
- 30:03do you know what I'm talking about?
- 30:05Speaker 2: I absolutely know what you're talking about. Yeah.
- 30:07Speaker 1: And that's where I think the fatigue comes from.
- 30:10Speaker 2: Well, we know this more. We have enough accumulated research
- 30:14that on a whole bunch of levels, including the immune system,
- 30:18on the cellular level, I mean, there's scientific data now
- 30:22that We know this about the dilemmas of poor exercise recovery,
- 30:29that the system is really working hard in a whole
- 30:33bunch of dimensions that aren't working well, but the system
- 30:39like redoubles its efforts.
- 30:41Speaker 1: Yes, it's working so, so hard. It's like exhausted from it.
- 30:46I mean, there's no rest for the weary.
- 30:49Speaker 2: So that's true on a whole bunch of dimensions. And
- 30:52I think Yeah. While I haven't seen energy work be
- 30:56really curative, I think it is of an enormous value
- 31:00for people. Yeah. Because the energy work can help directly
- 31:06calm some of those overworking systems.
- 31:08Speaker 1: Yes, of course, yeah.
- 31:10Speaker 2: Having a supply from outside of clean, beautiful energy can
- 31:17really fill out some of the deep depletion that takes place.
- 31:23I think it really can make a difference in people
- 31:26being able to function better and suffer less. I'm sure it.
- 31:29Speaker 1: Has for you. I'm sure it has for you.
- 31:32Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely.
- 31:33Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 31:34Speaker 2: And I'm so grateful. That was one of the things,
- 31:39the first time Rosalind worked on me in a workshop,
- 31:42and she shifted something physical, and I realized, wow, I
- 31:47haven't had open channels to energy. I mean... It didn't
- 31:52matter how much Qigong I did. The channels were so
- 31:55jammed up.
- 31:56Speaker 1: She opened all the channels.
- 31:59Speaker 2: It was pretty big, yeah.
- 32:03Speaker 1: Yeah, I think, you know, until you have a healing,
- 32:06it's really unfathomable how it feels. I mean, you know,
- 32:10I've been doing it for, I don't even want to
- 32:13count how many years, more than 25. Yeah, it's been
- 32:17about 30. You know, so I forget that, you know.
- 32:20It's just a different dimension.
- 32:21Speaker 2: Yes.
- 32:22Speaker 1: It's pretty amazing. So I want to thank you. This
- 32:25has been so amazing. And I want to encourage everyone
- 32:29to read your wonderful books. So name them all for us, please.
- 32:35Speaker 2: Well, going back to my first question. Yeah, every one.
- 32:40Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 32:40Speaker 2: Okay. So my first kind of well-known book in Gestalt
- 32:44therapy is called Body Process, Working with the Body in Psychotherapy.
- 32:49which was followed by a book called Healing Tasks, which
- 32:54is working with childhood trauma in adults. Then my big segue,
- 33:01kind of very different books. Thank you for the compliment
- 33:04that they read like a novel because that was my
- 33:08best wish.
- 33:09Speaker 1: I thought they were published as novels. No? No. They're
- 33:11published as memoirs? Okay.
- 33:13Speaker 2: You know, as far as I'm concerned, they are verbatim memoirs.
- 33:18Speaker 1: Wow.
- 33:19Speaker 2: Sorry, but, you know, they're written with some drama, I
- 33:22have to say, because, you know, they're interpreted through a writer.
- 33:27And the first one was called About Time. That's the
- 33:31one we talked about, yeah. And the second one is
- 33:34called Past the Past.
- 33:36Speaker 1: Past the Past?
- 33:37Speaker 2: Past the Past, which is a phrase from Eduard, actually.
- 33:40Speaker 1: Okay.
- 33:42Speaker 2: And they're from a series of, This memoir, which is
- 33:47called Upon a Time in France.
- 33:49Speaker 1: And then there's a third one coming then.
- 33:52Speaker 2: Oh, we'll see. Yeah.
- 33:53Speaker 1: We'll see.
- 33:56Speaker 2: I hate to promise because you know how difficult that is.
- 33:59Speaker 1: Yeah, I do. I thought I was writing a trilogy.
- 34:02I've only written one.
- 34:04Speaker 2: And if I could just say one thing about, you know,
- 34:08different than writing, say, a professional book or even a
- 34:11novel where you can plot it out.
- 34:13Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 34:14Speaker 2: I have to remember.
- 34:15Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 34:16Speaker 2: And I have some of the outlines of the rest
- 34:19of that life. But one of the things that Spirit
- 34:23made clear to me is the things I'm remembering, which
- 34:27I remember some of the tragedies that happened next. I said,
- 34:32you can't write it from that energy. You have to
- 34:36get yourself.
- 34:36Speaker 1: Write it from the place of healing. Right.
- 34:39Speaker 2: You have to get yourself to a bigger sense.
- 34:42Speaker 1: So....
- 34:45Speaker 2: I can't just go kind of outline the book. I've
- 34:47got to get myself to a different state. Yeah.
- 34:51Speaker 1: Okay. That's amazing. I understand. I really do.
- 34:58Speaker 2: I thought you would.
- 34:59Speaker 1: Yeah. So anyway, this has been really wonderful. I hope
- 35:02everyone will read your books and, you know, maybe see
- 35:08you for help with trauma, right?
- 35:09Speaker 2: Yeah. It's been great to talk to you, and I
- 35:14just love hearing the things that you're working with and understanding,
- 35:19and it's a pleasure.
- 35:21Speaker 1: Yeah, same here. So where can people reach you, Jim?
- 35:25Speaker 2: They can reach me through my website, which is jimkeppner.com,
- 35:30and there's a contact form and all that stuff.
- 35:33Speaker 1: Fantastic. Okay.
