- 0:29I Hate Talking: Welcome to episode 120 of I Hate Talking.
- 0:33I Hate Talking: Hi everyone.
- 0:34I Hate Talking: So, I think we've had a number of words in our past episodes that we said we were going to get to, but we certainly will get to the one that we talked about in our last episode, which is synopsis.
- 0:46I Hate Talking: OK.
- 0:46I Hate Talking: And probably the plural.
- 0:50I Hate Talking: Synopses.
- 0:51I Hate Talking: Is that what you're saying it's gonna be synopses?
- 0:55I Hate Talking: Thanks, synopses.
- 0:56I Hate Talking: Yes, like you have a thesis or you have thesess, right?
- 1:01I Hate Talking: It's probably the same root language, synopsis and thesis.
- 1:07I Hate Talking: Maybe be the same root word.
- 1:08I Hate Talking: I don't know.
- 1:10I Hate Talking: Synopsis is going to be interesting because usually sin, S Y N is like with.
- 1:17I Hate Talking: Right?
- 1:18I Hate Talking: And the Greek or Latin root, but I don't know if synopsis is going to be the same.
- 1:24I Hate Talking: Greek or Latin with word, might be the opposite.
- 1:28I Hate Talking: One of those might be Greek, one of those might be Latin.
- 1:31I Hate Talking: And sin means something different in each one.
- 1:35I Hate Talking: I don't know, sin means Uh, anything counter to God.
- 1:40I Hate Talking: Yes, I'm sure that's what the Greek and Latin people of the day were thinking.
- 1:46I Hate Talking: So Let's look up synopsis.
- 1:50I Hate Talking: We'll define it first.
- 1:52I Hate Talking: I I think it's sort of like a summary statement that describes the critical points of a particular thing.
- 2:02I Hate Talking: OK.
- 2:02I Hate Talking: And this is because last week we read a bunch of synopsis, synopses, possibly, possibly synopsis.
- 2:12I Hate Talking: About AI creating, rewording the the synopsis of the movie and we could not figure out if it was synopsisis, synopsesis, what did you say synopsize?
- 2:28I Hate Talking: No, what was the one you said?
- 2:30I Hate Talking: I think it's gonna be synopses, synopses, OK.
- 2:34I Hate Talking: So, the singular synopsis, according to our favorite American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language, 5th edition.
- 2:43I Hate Talking: It is defined as a brief outline or general view as a subject or written work, an abstract or a summary.
- 2:51I Hate Talking: Or a general view or a collection of heads or parts so arranged as to exhibit a general view of the whole, an abstract or summary of a discourse, a syllabus, a Conspectus Or a brief summary of the major points of a written work either as prose or as a table, an abridgment or condensation of a work.
- 3:14I Hate Talking: Well, there's a lot of funky words in that.
- 3:17I Hate Talking: There are.
- 3:18I Hate Talking: It seems like synopsis is typically going to be.
- 3:22I Hate Talking: An outline or a summary of a written work.
- 3:26I Hate Talking: All of those definitions typically refer to some sort of writing that it is condensing.
- 3:33I Hate Talking: -- So -- I couldn't say when you're at the kitchen table, just give me a synopsis of your day.
- 3:38I Hate Talking: That would actually not be accurate.
- 3:41I Hate Talking: -- I -- mean, I guess if I wrote like a lengthy discourse about my day and then I just provided the synopsis of that particular written work, then that would be acceptable, but no, I think a more accurate statement would be like a summary or some other thing because this does seem to be referring generally in this definition.
- 4:04I Hate Talking: To a written work.
- 4:06I Hate Talking: OK, interesting.
- 4:07I Hate Talking: I didn't know that.
- 4:09I Hate Talking: So let's check on the etymology or the plural first, which one?
- 4:13I Hate Talking: Uh, plural.
- 4:16I Hate Talking: We've been waiting a week.
- 4:19I Hate Talking: That's true.
- 4:19I Hate Talking: Yeah, so, Most commonly, according to grammardefinition.com, it will be synopses.
- 4:29I Hate Talking: So, whereas synopsis is spelled S Y N O P S I S.
- 4:36I Hate Talking: Synopses, a plural, will be spelled S Y N O P S E S.
- 4:41I Hate Talking: OK.
- 4:42I Hate Talking: And that follows a general rule for words ending in IS where the IS is changed to ES.
- 4:48I Hate Talking: So, my thesis on theses being the plural of thesis.
- 4:54I Hate Talking: Similar to synopsis -- is -- correct.
- 4:57I Hate Talking: There you go.
- 4:58I Hate Talking: Good job, hon.
- 4:59I Hate Talking: There also is occasionally, and somewhat acceptable, but highly Not the general rule.
- 5:10I Hate Talking: Synopsis synopsis.
- 5:14I Hate Talking: You just basically put an ES on the end of synopsis.
- 5:19I Hate Talking: But I think that's what we initially started calling it, and then we're like, that's not right.
- 5:24I Hate Talking: Synopsis.
- 5:25I Hate Talking: Yeah, that just does, it doesn't sound very like educated.
- 5:30I Hate Talking: It's like, wait, right?
- 5:33I Hate Talking: It's like what somebody that doesn't know the plural of synopsis like we did last week would do just to like make it plural, so.
- 5:43I Hate Talking: Synopsis is the correct general rule that also says that that will have clarity and grammatical correctness according to this particular website.
- 5:55I Hate Talking: There you go.
- 5:56I Hate Talking: So now we can sound more educated, synopsis.
- 5:59I Hate Talking: Synopses.
- 6:01I Hate Talking: I was about to say the wrong one, synopses, yes.
- 6:05I Hate Talking: So, according to this same website, and maybe we'll check another source as well, but for the particular etymology, it comes from sin, meaning together or with, -- so I was -- right.
- 6:18I Hate Talking: Yeah, wow, -- you're on a roll -- tonight.
- 6:20I Hate Talking: And opsis, which means seeing or view.
- 6:24I Hate Talking: So, Literally Seeing together or?
- 6:29I Hate Talking: With the view synopsis.
- 6:33I Hate Talking: OK.
- 6:34I Hate Talking: I, it's still sort of strange to me that sin.
- 6:37I Hate Talking: Together or with be would be used.
- 6:40I Hate Talking: But nonetheless, both come from Latin.
- 6:44I Hate Talking: And some.
- 6:47I Hate Talking: Theories here state that basically this was used.
- 6:52I Hate Talking: With the with type language because a synopsis would provide a view of a particular thing like we discussed a written work perhaps that could be understood together.
- 7:07I Hate Talking: So a synopsis would allow understanding of a larger group of people.
- 7:11I Hate Talking: Hm, wait, but it has to be a written work, right, so if you summarize a written work into a synopsis, it allows a greater people of that group to understand what you're talking about.
- 7:26I Hate Talking: So the whole group can understand.
- 7:28I Hate Talking: I thought you said like you were understanding the group.
- 7:32I Hate Talking: I was like that doesn't make sense.
- 7:33I Hate Talking: But no, -- the group is -- understand is understanding the written work through this summary called a synopsis.
- 7:38I Hate Talking: Got it.
- 7:40I Hate Talking: Well, there you go.
- 7:41I Hate Talking: So, Synopsis and synopses are going to be the general rule, but according to that website that we quoted, Grammar definition.com, synopsis.
- 7:57I Hate Talking: I, like I said, the general rule, but synopsis is.
- 8:02I Hate Talking: is also slightly acceptable.
- 8:04I Hate Talking: But not preferred.
- 8:07I Hate Talking: All right.
- 8:09I Hate Talking: But if you get tongue tied, don't feel bad about it, cause it's still acceptable.
- 8:14I Hate Talking: Well, we did determine that definitely synopti is.
- 8:18I Hate Talking: I was rooting for that one cause I like cacti and all those.
- 8:23I Hate Talking: I think it sounds fun.
- 8:24I Hate Talking: Well, there you go.
- 8:25I Hate Talking: Maybe we can get into next time the reason why some words end with an I in Pearl, octopi, cacti.
- 8:34I Hate Talking: There's probably more, but those are the two that come to mind.
- 8:37I Hate Talking: So, there you go.
- 8:40I Hate Talking: That is.
- 8:41I Hate Talking: The synopsis of synopsis, OK.
- 8:44I Hate Talking: So for the remainder of this episode, perhaps we will give some synopsis or just general insights into the Netflix series We Will Find You or I Will Find You.
- 8:57I Hate Talking: I will find you.
- 9:00I Hate Talking: Very.
- 9:00I Hate Talking: Interesting title.
- 9:02I Hate Talking: It's set an appropriate title.
- 9:04I Hate Talking: Yeah, it is an appropriate title.
- 9:07I Hate Talking: So, I suppose spoiler alerts ahead.
- 9:10I Hate Talking: So, I don't, I guess before we dive into perhaps some of the details, we can let our listeners know whether this is worth watching or not.
- 9:17I Hate Talking: And then they can make their decision if they're going to go watch it before they listen to this episode so that we don't spoil it for them.
- 9:24I Hate Talking: OK, yeah, so you don't have to turn it off yet.
- 9:27I Hate Talking: And decide if you want to watch it or not.
- 9:29I Hate Talking: Yeah, in my opinion, you don't have to turn off this episode because it's not worth watching.
- 9:33I Hate Talking: I love the movie.
- 9:34I Hate Talking: OK, first, well, it's not a movie, it's a show.
- 9:37I Hate Talking: A 4-part, right now, 8 part, 8, 8 part, yes, like where they had so much content that they couldn't fit into a movie, so they went to a TV show provider like Netflix and said, hey, let's make this movie, but AKA let's make it actually a TV show.
- 9:53I Hate Talking: OK, so first, it is not for children.
- 9:56I Hate Talking: It is an adult like content.
- 9:59I Hate Talking: Yeah, it has mature themes of variety of things that Contain things, right.
- 10:04I Hate Talking: Language, violence, yes.
- 10:06I Hate Talking: All right, so obviously if you're not.
- 10:09I Hate Talking: Of that, then it's not for you anyways, but I watched it.
- 10:14I Hate Talking: I binged it.
- 10:15I Hate Talking: And was obsessed.
- 10:18I Hate Talking: I loved it so much.
- 10:19I Hate Talking: I was begging pretty much everyone I talked to to watch it.
- 10:23I Hate Talking: Because I desperately wanted to talk to someone about it.
- 10:26I Hate Talking: And so I finally got you to, it was a couple of weeks, and you finally agreed to watch it.
- 10:33I Hate Talking: And then you didn't even like it and that bums me out.
- 10:36I Hate Talking: So now this is my opportunity to talk about it.
- 10:39I Hate Talking: There you go.
- 10:40I Hate Talking: So you would recommend it to other people.
- 10:42I Hate Talking: Yes, -- I told everyone to watch -- you recommended it to many people.
- 10:45I Hate Talking: Did any of those other people actually watch it?
- 10:47I Hate Talking: I don't know yet, but they should.
- 10:49I Hate Talking: I don't know why people are so against watching it.
- 10:52I Hate Talking: I don't know.
- 10:53I Hate Talking: It's OK.
- 10:56I Hate Talking: There are a lot of surprises in it, right?
- 10:58I Hate Talking: -- That's -- all, it's almost like Toy Story 4, where you get like this ending fatigue, like, oh, we're gonna end the show because we figured out this major cliffhanger, and it's like, oh no, actually just redirection, we're gonna have another cliffhanger.
- 11:15I Hate Talking: And it happened several times over.
- 11:17I Hate Talking: So I think that's part of the reason that perhaps I did not like it, is it like, this could have been wrapped up sooner.
- 11:25I Hate Talking: But it was surprising, right?
- 11:27I Hate Talking: I know you thought that you had figured it out pretty early on.
- 11:31I Hate Talking: And I was trying so hard.
- 11:34I Hate Talking: I have such a bad poker face, but I was trying so hard because you know I'd already watched it and I was watching it alone for the second time, watching it with you.
- 11:43I Hate Talking: And so when you thought you figured it out, I was trying really hard not to give it away.
- 11:49I Hate Talking: Uh, that you were wrong.
- 11:51I Hate Talking: So I think I'm convinced you you were right, even so.
- 11:56I Hate Talking: Do you agree with that?
- 11:57I Hate Talking: My reaction?
- 11:59I Hate Talking: Perhaps so, towards the end, maybe.
- 12:02I Hate Talking: Uh, that was also maybe part of the issue that I had with the show is Now reflecting on it, is it like made this particular thing, like, this is the person who did it, and this is the reason why, and this all makes sense, and you should think that this is the reason that all this happened in this particular narrative.
- 12:26I Hate Talking: And it's like so obvious and you're like on episode 2, like, well, obviously that cannot be the answer because you have 6 more episodes after this.
- 12:34I Hate Talking: So like, this can't be the solution because There's more things that are, there's not enough content.
- 12:41I Hate Talking: So I think maybe that frustrated me a little bit, like, the show is trying to make it so obvious that this is the quote unquote solution.
- 12:50I Hate Talking: And you know that it's not the solution.
- 12:52I Hate Talking: So it's like almost trying too hard to say, That there's gonna be a twist.
- 12:58I Hate Talking: Like, obviously there's gonna be a twist because you're making this particular point that XYZ is going to be the solution, that it's so obvious that obviously it's not.
- 13:09I Hate Talking: But they do that a couple times, I guess, to your point about this, this, uh, the fatigue, they put like all their eggs in one basket, and you're like, this is what it is, and then it's like, oh no, it's not, oh, it's this.
- 13:23I Hate Talking: Oh wait, no, it's not.
- 13:25I Hate Talking: And so that's why at the very end, I was like, what?
- 13:28I Hate Talking: Like my mind was blown, like I didn't, all of a sudden, I felt like that meme is a Julia Roberts when she's trying to think and all the numbers around her and she's trying to solve a problem.
- 13:39I Hate Talking: Like all of it came together, like, oh yeah, duh, blah blah blah blah blah.
- 13:46I Hate Talking: So I absolutely loved that.
- 13:48I Hate Talking: Yeah, I guess that's true.
- 13:51I Hate Talking: The last two episodes were good.
- 13:53I Hate Talking: Like if you can sort of grind out the first, like the first episode is like manually introduction, that's fine.
- 14:01I Hate Talking: So if, if this is an 8-part episode, right, then like episodes 23456.
- 14:07I Hate Talking: are sort of a grind, in my opinion, and then 7 and 8 are good.
- 14:12I Hate Talking: So like if you could just watch, maybe that would be a good thing to do.
- 14:15I Hate Talking: If you have not watched this and are willing to try this experiment, just watch episodes 1 and then the last the last 2 episodes.
- 14:23I Hate Talking: And see if it makes sense.
- 14:26I Hate Talking: And it like cuts out all the stuff that is like fluff.
- 14:30I Hate Talking: I mean, I think it could make sense, but you're not gonna get the whoa, aha moments, right?
- 14:36I Hate Talking: But then it's almost like a movie instead of like a binge watching a show, it'd be like a movie, and you will save at least like 5 hours of time.
- 14:46I Hate Talking: Maybe we'll, we will do this experiment and watch episode 1.
- 14:51I Hate Talking: -- I'll watch -- it again.
- 14:52I Hate Talking: I'll watch it a 3rd time.
- 14:53I Hate Talking: We watch episode 1 and then the last 2 episodes.
- 14:57I Hate Talking: Where like you find out that the main antagonist is the antagonist, not all these like fake antagonists that they prop up in the beginning.
- 15:06I Hate Talking: I'm trying to think of when.
- 15:09I Hate Talking: Certain people come in though.
- 15:11I Hate Talking: Is it one or is it 2, episode 2, I guess we'll have to watch it and find out.
- 15:15I Hate Talking: -- I think it's episode 2 though when -- people come in.
- 15:17I Hate Talking: I think the picnic scene is in an episode 1.
- 15:19I Hate Talking: So you have like a Reference to the person, but yeah, you don't really have any character development.
- 15:26I Hate Talking: -- You're not -- gonna have any.
- 15:28I Hate Talking: I'm not opposed to doing it your way, but you're not gonna have any buy-in at that point if you do it that way.
- 15:35I Hate Talking: You're not gonna be invested in the characters.
- 15:38I Hate Talking: I'm sort of not really still invested in the characters.
- 15:41I Hate Talking: Like it took so long to go through this process that like, yeah, -- I don't -- know.
- 15:47I Hate Talking: So you regret watching it.
- 15:49I Hate Talking: Mm, not, -- not like -- firmly back, not firmly, not firmly against it, not firmly regretting it, but yeah, I think they're, like I would have rather rewatched like something else that I know is good.
- 16:06I Hate Talking: Like John Wick, I would have rather watched John Wick.
- 16:09I Hate Talking: That, that's on my list to do is like rewatch the, the all of the John Wick movies, yes.
- 16:16I Hate Talking: Or you're just gonna watch one and how many does he have?
- 16:20I Hate Talking: He probably has like 8, -- I -- think there's 5.
- 16:22I Hate Talking: And then there's also like the side universe.
- 16:26I Hate Talking: Like, I don't know if it's necessarily like a show.
- 16:28I Hate Talking: It's more like a soundtrack.
- 16:29I Hate Talking: It's like the John Wick music experience.
- 16:31I Hate Talking: -- So -- our kids haven't watched it.
- 16:33I Hate Talking: I mean, I hope they haven't watched John Wick yet.
- 16:36I Hate Talking: I make them listen to the soundtrack though.
- 16:38I Hate Talking: Oh, maybe that's how I was about to say -- how do they know who -- he is.
- 16:42I Hate Talking: They know who he is.
- 16:43I Hate Talking: They'll reference him and stuff like if someone's being like really cool or whatever, like, um, crazy cool and powerful, they're like, well, John Wick cracks me up.
- 16:55I Hate Talking: -- Is that like a term -- now?
- 16:56I Hate Talking: I guess.
- 16:58I Hate Talking: -- I don't -- know.
- 16:59I Hate Talking: -- I can't keep up with the -- terms.
- 17:00I Hate Talking: Yep, I'm behind in all the terminology.
- 17:02I Hate Talking: I use a like millennial term at work the other day and my younger cohort was like, good word.
- 17:10I Hate Talking: I don't remember what it was.
- 17:12I Hate Talking: I remember, I hope you remember it was a good word.
- 17:15I Hate Talking: Yeah, I have no idea.
- 17:17I Hate Talking: Uh, we'll think about it and probably not remember.
- 17:20I Hate Talking: Was it a good word or did you?
- 17:22I Hate Talking: Yeah, no, it was a very, very appropriate use of, um, whatever it's called, millennial term, right?
- 17:28I Hate Talking: Are they millennials?
- 17:30I Hate Talking: Gen A, -- we're -- millennials.
- 17:32I Hate Talking: What's the gen -- below -- us alphas are kids.
- 17:37I Hate Talking: No, uh, Jen.
- 17:40I Hate Talking: Gen Z, yes, there you go.
- 17:43I Hate Talking: That's uh Ones that are entering like the workforce right now or in high school and stuff.
- 17:48I Hate Talking: I suppose so.
- 17:49I Hate Talking: I don't know.
- 17:51I Hate Talking: It's all sort of a blur with all these terminology things that Or use, but I guess that makes me old.
- 17:58I Hate Talking: Yeah.
- 17:59I Hate Talking: So yeah, I don't regret watching, I Will Find You.
- 18:04I Hate Talking: Per se, but.
- 18:07I Hate Talking: Like if I was going to devote my time to watching a show or movie, I think I would have rather watched something that I knew was good and rewatch something that I knew was good.
- 18:20I Hate Talking: OK, so this is a spoiler.
- 18:21I Hate Talking: Did it give it away that it was a good ending?
- 18:24I Hate Talking: Because I liked it, right?
- 18:26I Hate Talking: I feel like I wouldn't like something.
- 18:28I Hate Talking: Unless it's a good ending, right?
- 18:31I Hate Talking: So we've given minor spoilers.
- 18:35I Hate Talking: He's here so far.
- 18:36I Hate Talking: Now we're gonna have major spoilers.
- 18:38I Hate Talking: Is that what you're saying?
- 18:39I Hate Talking: So, yes, that's probably true.
- 18:43I Hate Talking: It has a quote unquote happy ending.
- 18:45I Hate Talking: It leaves a little bit to the imagination with like, whether the main character and sort of the supporting actress are like together as a relationship or something like that.
- 18:54I Hate Talking: But It's generally.
- 18:58I Hate Talking: A happy ending.
- 18:59I Hate Talking: But did you, I feel like, cause I kept talking about how good it was, and to everybody, and I was like, oh, they're gonna know it ends good though, because -- I don't like movies that end -- sad.
- 19:12I Hate Talking: Yeah, but it also sort of Ends in a positive light just because that's what you, the viewer, are focused on based on the narrative.
- 19:19I Hate Talking: Because there's still an orphan at the end of the movie that does not have any resolution.
- 19:24I Hate Talking: Yeah, that is sad.
- 19:26I Hate Talking: But you're focused based on the way the story is written, to not even really think about that.
- 19:33I Hate Talking: Yeah.
- 19:34I Hate Talking: See, I think that's my problem.
- 19:36I Hate Talking: Like, I like open-ended movies and shows where like, the narrative will actually encourage you to think about a variety of things instead of being like forced into their particular narrative, like, you will think that this person is the bad person.
- 19:53I Hate Talking: And then we'll trick you, and they're actually a really good person, or they're just like a person that was part of the story.
- 20:01I Hate Talking: Yeah, that's why I don't like that.
- 20:02I Hate Talking: I would rather have it more open-ended where like you, the viewer, can decide whether they're good or bad.
- 20:10I Hate Talking: No, because I was just like, oh, this person's good, this person's bad, like the whole way through.
- 20:16I Hate Talking: And then at the end I was like, whoa, I was wrong.
- 20:20I Hate Talking: Everyone.
- 20:21I Hate Talking: Not everyone, but a lot of the people I thought were good or bad, and so forth.
- 20:26I Hate Talking: And also there is an argument in there.
- 20:30I Hate Talking: The bad guy makes an argument for the orphan.
- 20:33I Hate Talking: Being better off.
- 20:35I Hate Talking: So it depends.
- 20:36I Hate Talking: I don't agree, but it depends on your philosophy.
- 20:38I Hate Talking: Maybe the orphan was good after all.
- 20:42I Hate Talking: -- I suppose it depends on -- yours.
- 20:45I Hate Talking: I don't agree either.
- 20:46I Hate Talking: I can't even when I'm saying, I have a hard time with that, but That was his justification.
- 20:51I Hate Talking: That's true.
- 20:52I Hate Talking: I mean, at least he had a justification, but.
- 20:54I Hate Talking: Yes.
- 20:56I Hate Talking: So, I mean, my theory early on was like, this guy in prison was just having a hallucination and like this is all in his head.
- 21:05I Hate Talking: And I sort of actually wish that was the ending.
- 21:08I Hate Talking: Like that just by the end of the final episode, like he woke up, he's like still in prison and like it was all just some fever dream.
- 21:18I Hate Talking: No, see, I wouldn't have liked it then.
- 21:22I Hate Talking: I would have been so sad.
- 21:24I Hate Talking: I guess.
- 21:25I Hate Talking: I also don't feel like I was vested in The child in which he was seeking.
- 21:31I Hate Talking: And I don't know why that is.
- 21:34I Hate Talking: Maybe because there's like so few.
- 21:37I Hate Talking: Depictions of that particular child and it's more like just flashbacks.
- 21:41I Hate Talking: And things like that, but It didn't seem like there was actually established as part of the story, like a very real.
- 21:50I Hate Talking: Connection in terms of a relationship.
- 21:54I Hate Talking: Between the father and the son, so you weren't really rooting for the kid.
- 21:59I Hate Talking: It's just, it was like another kid.
- 22:01I Hate Talking: It is like as much of a character as the orphan.
- 22:05I Hate Talking: Mhm.
- 22:05I Hate Talking: Yeah, it's true.
- 22:07I Hate Talking: Very little was actually said about him, right.
- 22:10I Hate Talking: The only one thing I had a problem with in the show, and I have a problem with this in a lot of shows, is obviously they have like.
- 22:19I Hate Talking: The protagonist, right?
- 22:22I Hate Talking: Or the um.
- 22:23I Hate Talking: Main characters And so you're rooting for them.
- 22:27I Hate Talking: And Lots of people get hurt along the way, protecting them or trying to stop them, and so I always feel bad about that, cause there's like a lot of casualties.
- 22:41I Hate Talking: That, you know, OK, this one family is happy.
- 22:47I Hate Talking: But there are a lot of other families that are hurt along the way.
- 22:50I Hate Talking: I think it's a very common, even like Indiana Jones and movies like that, that that happened.
- 22:56I Hate Talking: It's just how movies are made, I guess.
- 22:59I Hate Talking: It's hard to not think like, well, that character, even if he didn't have a name in the script.
- 23:04I Hate Talking: If he's just I don't know, guy with hat #2.
- 23:09I Hate Talking: He still had a family.
- 23:11I Hate Talking: That's true.
- 23:13I Hate Talking: I mean, it's different in Indiana Jones and like some of the perhaps older movies where there was like a good guy side and a bad guy side, and like, if a bad guy from the bad guy side was a casualty, you don't necessarily care as much, whereas like, I will find you will be more Just ambivalent about whether they're quote unquote good people or bad people, which is sort of the whole theme, right?
- 23:41I Hate Talking: You don't know from the entire characters whether they're good people or bad people, quote unquote.
- 23:47I Hate Talking: Right?
- 23:48I Hate Talking: Well, each person had reasoning to do what they did all these years.
- 23:53I Hate Talking: This is a, what, like a five-year time frame that narrows down to just like a week.
- 24:00I Hate Talking: But it starts off 5 years ago, and you just see people's lives and what they did in those 5 years and how they thought they were doing the right thing.
- 24:09I Hate Talking: And I mean, we can always argue like, oh, this person obviously did the wrong thing, or this one also obviously did the wrong thing, but in their head, they were doing the right thing still, even if we didn't agree with their philosophy.
- 24:22I Hate Talking: I suppose so.
- 24:25I Hate Talking: They had justifications for why they did it.
- 24:28I Hate Talking: The mom.
- 24:30I Hate Talking: had justifications for what she did for her son.
- 24:34I Hate Talking: The dads had justifications for what they did for their sons.
- 24:37I Hate Talking: Yeah, I guess, right?
- 24:40I Hate Talking: The narrative sort of just portrays it as happening.
- 24:43I Hate Talking: There's not necessarily any like moral commentary.
- 24:46I Hate Talking: Like Indiana Jones will have like an underlying moral commentary that these are the bad people, these are the good people, and even if they're not necessarily.
- 24:56I Hate Talking: At least it's Presented very clearly, these are the good and these are the bad.
- 25:02I Hate Talking: Well, maybe the overall story in here.
- 25:05I Hate Talking: The moral story is that parents will do, even put themselves on the line for their children, because there's what, 1, there's 5, there are 5 parents and kids' stories in this.
- 25:18I Hate Talking: That run kind of simultaneous, the cop and his kid.
- 25:22I Hate Talking: Yeah, that was also still not, yeah, that was also very confusing that they called each other brother and they had no relationship.
- 25:31I Hate Talking: No, because the two dads were police officers.
- 25:35I Hate Talking: I understand you explained it that like after the fact that these two dads had 2 kids, 2 sons, -- they raised -- them like -- they were -- cousins or brothers, yeah.
- 25:46I Hate Talking: And then there was like the current cop and his daughter and then a famous mom and her son.
- 25:53I Hate Talking: So they all, I mean, there's a ton of parents doing pretty sketchy stuff for the well-being of their child.
- 26:00I Hate Talking: Yeah, I suppose so.
- 26:02I Hate Talking: I think that's the moral is parents will.
- 26:04I Hate Talking: Do whatever it takes for their child.
- 26:07I Hate Talking: I guess so.
- 26:09I Hate Talking: And they will find a 3rd kid.
- 26:12I Hate Talking: Yeah.
- 26:12I Hate Talking: I guess I don't think it really has a moral.
- 26:16I Hate Talking: Watch it, guys.
- 26:17I Hate Talking: It's so good.
- 26:18I Hate Talking: Yeah, I still maintain that.
- 26:21I Hate Talking: It is not good.
- 26:22I Hate Talking: The more I think about it, the more I actually dislike it.
- 26:25I Hate Talking: The more I've talked about it during this episode, you not even 17 and 8?
- 26:30I Hate Talking: I don't know.
- 26:31I Hate Talking: Maybe we'll try.
- 26:32I Hate Talking: And see if that like is a better experience.
- 26:35I Hate Talking: If you watch them again, I'll watch the Matrix with you.
- 26:39I Hate Talking: Oh, you've watched The Matrix with me.
- 26:42I Hate Talking: Yeah, it's been -- Have -- you watched The Matrix Reloaded?
- 26:46I Hate Talking: I at one point you watched, showed them up to me, all of them to me.
- 26:52I Hate Talking: I, I watched it while you were sitting beside me.
- 26:54I Hate Talking: Matrix Revolutions.
- 26:57I Hate Talking: Yeah, I mean, I mean, well, is that the one in the movie?
- 27:01I Hate Talking: I think the one that most recent in the movie theater, I haven't seen.
- 27:05I Hate Talking: I've watched it at least 3 times.
- 27:07I Hate Talking: Which is sort of sad because the other Matrix movies I've watched double digits.
- 27:11I Hate Talking: But That one's not quite as good.
- 27:14I Hate Talking: I don't think I've seen it, have I?
- 27:16I Hate Talking: You've seen it in the theater.
- 27:18I Hate Talking: I've seen it in the theaters, yeah, maybe you've not watched it.
- 27:20I Hate Talking: I don't know.
- 27:21I Hate Talking: The Animatrix.
- 27:22I Hate Talking: Yeah, and I like that one.
- 27:23I Hate Talking: I do remember watching that one.
- 27:25I Hate Talking: There you go.
- 27:26I Hate Talking: So, maybe we'll do our experiment or you, our listener can do the experiment.
- 27:30I Hate Talking: You can either watch all of them or Watch episode 1 and then the last 2.
- 27:36I Hate Talking: I think there's 8, right?
- 27:37I Hate Talking: So 8.
- 27:38I Hate Talking: It's, I mean, it's definitely gonna spoil it.
- 27:40I Hate Talking: That's true.
- 27:42I Hate Talking: You can't go back.
- 27:43I Hate Talking: So if you do this experiment and watch 17, 8, and let me confirm, to make, just to make sure that there's 8 episodes.
- 27:50I Hate Talking: Or that if this experiment is correct.
- 27:53I Hate Talking: So there are 8 episodes, so that is correct.
- 27:58I Hate Talking: And I would say, You can watch episode one.
- 28:03I Hate Talking: And then, Might even be able to jump to 8.
- 28:11I Hate Talking: Where, uh, where's the guy?
- 28:14I Hate Talking: Yeah, I think it might be 8.
- 28:17I Hate Talking: I think you could watch 1 in 8.
- 28:20I Hate Talking: And it would work.
- 28:22I Hate Talking: But definitely 178, I think.
- 28:25I Hate Talking: Because episode 7 is where they like jump way back in history.
- 28:31I Hate Talking: I think it might work 18.
- 28:34I Hate Talking: These were also dropped on the same day, all 8 episodes.
- 28:38I Hate Talking: It was made to be binged.
- 28:40I Hate Talking: I also don't appreciate that.
- 28:42I Hate Talking: I would much rather have a TV experience like Silo, where you have to wait for each episode.
- 28:49I Hate Talking: You can actually like think and reflect and like theorize on what's gonna happen in the next episode.
- 28:56I Hate Talking: That's like old school TV shows, like that's how it used to be.
- 29:00I Hate Talking: Maybe it's just nostalgic.
- 29:01I Hate Talking: Yeah, I don't know, I mean.
- 29:05I Hate Talking: Yeah, we are in the middle of silo right now, but it's so frustrating when we watch it.
- 29:10I Hate Talking: OK, in disclosure, it takes us about 2 nights, sometimes 3, to watch one episode of Silo, right?
- 29:19I Hate Talking: That's true, we're not caught up on the current episode and we are on night 3 if we try to attempt that.
- 29:24I Hate Talking: Cause I, we just fall, I fall asleep.
- 29:27I Hate Talking: And then we have to stop it and rewatch it or start it later.
- 29:31I Hate Talking: But when we do watch it.
- 29:34I Hate Talking: Or if we start it early enough in the night that I can finish it before falling asleep.
- 29:40I Hate Talking: Then I get disappointed cause I wanna watch more, you have to wait an entire week.
- 29:45I Hate Talking: And I can't believe we used to have to wait an entire week to watch Boy Meets World or all those movies.
- 29:52I Hate Talking: It's crazy or TV shows, it's crazy.
- 29:54I Hate Talking: I don't like that.
- 29:56I Hate Talking: The only thing I do like about it is that it builds the anticipation.
- 30:00I Hate Talking: Like when Friday comes and silo drops, it's exciting, and I look forward to it now, which used to be Fridays, right?
- 30:08I Hate Talking: Like TGIF and stuff, uh.
- 30:10I Hate Talking: Thank God it was Friday and you'd have all the good TV shows.
- 30:15I Hate Talking: That's true.
- 30:15I Hate Talking: So, perhaps we will try our Test or experiment of I will find you episode 1, followed by, I think episode 8.
- 30:27I Hate Talking: I think that is the, the experiment.
- 30:29I Hate Talking: And then you, our listener, can let us know in a comment, email, or text message if you've watched this particular show, and if you're going to sign up to do the experiment and be spoiled because if you do this experiment, Straight from Watching it the initial time.
- 30:47I Hate Talking: It's pretty much gonna ruin episodes 2 through 7, right?
- 30:52I Hate Talking: I mean, yeah, you can obviously watch it, but everything's set up, you're gonna know, OK, this is a red herring or this is a whatever.
- 31:02I Hate Talking: But if you are not really interested in it and we're not planning on watching it, then just do episodes 1 through 8 or 1 and 1.
- 31:11I Hate Talking: That's right, 1 through 8, everyone, you heard it 1 and 8.
- 31:15I Hate Talking: It save you time and then you can say you watched it.
- 31:17I Hate Talking: It's less than an hour and a half of your time.
- 31:19I Hate Talking: There you go.
- 31:20I Hate Talking: So, from your friends at I Hate Talking, until next time, remember, it is only through talking that we begin the journey to understanding.
