- 0:10Speaker 1: What's up, everybody. Welcome back to another episode of Buco Territory,
- 0:13Speaker 1: presented to you by the Foul Territory Network on Noahiles.
- 0:16Speaker 1: Joining me as always are my co host Josh Harrison
- 0:19Speaker 1: and Platinum Key aka Mark. The Pirates win two and
- 0:23Speaker 1: then lose two in their four game series against the
- 0:26Speaker 1: Chicago Cubs. They lose the back end of their four
- 0:29Speaker 1: game set. We're gonna talk about that. We're gonna talk
- 0:31Speaker 1: about the guy who's on the bump Friday, Jared Jones
- 0:35Speaker 1: making his first start for the Pirates since twenty twenty four.
- 0:40Speaker 1: Mark's excited about it. We're gonna dive into that, and
- 0:42Speaker 1: as always, we will round out our Friday show with
- 0:45Speaker 1: our weekly segment Jay Hay Now, where our own Josh
- 0:48Speaker 1: Harrison highlights something that he noticed this week and Buco Land.
- 0:52Speaker 1: But guys, we'll start off with the series split. The
- 0:55Speaker 1: Pirates take the first two games, they lose the back
- 0:58Speaker 1: end to the last one being a Paul Skien start.
- 1:02Speaker 1: Skins looked a little better today. I think he finished
- 1:05Speaker 1: with five and a third three earned runs or two
- 1:08Speaker 1: three runs three runs.
- 1:11Speaker 2: Yeah, Okay, they made two scoring changes.
- 1:14Speaker 1: I was gonna say they absolutely should have It should
- 1:16Speaker 1: have only been one run, so three five and a
- 1:19Speaker 1: third three runs earned or three runs allowed one earned.
- 1:23Speaker 1: He struck out ten. I believe he walked three yep,
- 1:27Speaker 1: So I mean he was he was fine. He wasn't
- 1:29Speaker 1: Paul Skin's level good, but he was good enough to
- 1:32Speaker 1: keep them in the game. The defense was a bad,
- 1:36Speaker 1: bad footnote of this series. The offense looked really good
- 1:39Speaker 1: in the first couple of games of the series, kind
- 1:43Speaker 1: of faded away in the back half. I'll start with
- 1:46Speaker 1: Mark here. I mean, what's your takeaway. Are you feeling
- 1:48Speaker 1: better or worse after these four games?
- 1:51Speaker 2: Yeah? I mean it was. It was disappointing the way
- 1:54Speaker 2: it ended because there was so much momentum. It felt
- 1:57Speaker 2: like after the first two games it felt like this
- 1:59Speaker 2: team was really rolling and with a skien start in
- 2:03Speaker 2: one of the next two games, you felt like, Okay,
- 2:05Speaker 2: we can pick up one of these next two win
- 2:08Speaker 2: the series, take a big step forward in the division,
- 2:11Speaker 2: and instead it just felt like two steps forward, two
- 2:14Speaker 2: steps back. So I'm kind of left just numb with
- 2:18Speaker 2: this series. It feels like a missed opportunity, especially with
- 2:21Speaker 2: it being at PNC. You had Paul Skins up against
- 2:24Speaker 2: the Cubs. You got a solid start out of him.
- 2:27Speaker 2: It may not have been a you know, classic Paul
- 2:30Speaker 2: Skins just gem, but if any other picture gave what
- 2:34Speaker 2: he threw tonight, we'd be saying, wow, that was fantastic.
- 2:38Speaker 2: So good stuff for Paul Skins tonight. But yeah, just overall,
- 2:42Speaker 2: it just really felt like there was a lot of
- 2:45Speaker 2: meat left on the bone. And just I don't feel
- 2:49Speaker 2: like as optimistic as I did coming into the series necessarily, Josh, I.
- 2:57Speaker 1: Mean, yeah, how do you think? How do you think?
- 2:59Speaker 1: And they're feeling after winning to losing two.
- 3:04Speaker 3: I think they're okay.
- 3:05Speaker 4: Obviously with Paul going tonight, you you I don't want
- 3:10Speaker 4: to say you look at those is for sure wins,
- 3:12Speaker 4: but you obviously like your probability to say, you know,
- 3:15Speaker 4: we got a likely a very high chance of winning.
- 3:19Speaker 4: Unfortunately that didn't happen to night. But also some you know,
- 3:22Speaker 4: some defensive blunders which defense can cost you games. But
- 3:25Speaker 4: that also shows why one hundred sixty two is tough. Man,
- 3:30Speaker 4: It is a ride. But you know, four game series
- 3:33Speaker 4: or series that don't happen often, and one you look
- 3:37Speaker 4: at it, they want the first two Typically when you're
- 3:39Speaker 4: playing a three games set. You know, you're like, oh,
- 3:41Speaker 4: we want the first two, let's go for sweep. To
- 3:45Speaker 4: to play a four game set to win three out
- 3:47Speaker 4: of four is it just shows you how tough it is,
- 3:50Speaker 4: even when you got you know, the best picture in
- 3:53Speaker 4: the game. So you look at it to say, yes,
- 3:57Speaker 4: in your words, Mark, yes, a lot of meat may
- 3:59Speaker 4: have been left on the bone. But you also look
- 4:02Speaker 4: to say, you know, the start that we would consider,
- 4:06Speaker 4: you know, like a high likely chance to win. We
- 4:09Speaker 4: didn't win, but you know what, we still salvaged a
- 4:11Speaker 4: series split. Yes we would have liked to win, but
- 4:15Speaker 4: you know, you gotta look at things to say, yes,
- 4:18Speaker 4: we had a chance, and yes it sucks, but at
- 4:21Speaker 4: the end of the day, you didn't lose the series,
- 4:24Speaker 4: and that that's better than you know, you know, splitting
- 4:28Speaker 4: the series better than losing the series. And you move
- 4:31Speaker 4: on to the next one to say, you know, I
- 4:33Speaker 4: don't think the next one is a four game set.
- 4:34Speaker 5: Right, yeah, yeah, so you're gonna you're looking at that
- 4:41Speaker 5: to say, you, as you said, two steps forward, two
- 4:44Speaker 5: steps backwards.
- 4:45Speaker 4: You didn't really gain, right, you didn't lose ground, granted,
- 4:48Speaker 4: depending what happened above, you know, behind you you split
- 4:53Speaker 4: two out of four, It's hard to be a major
- 4:54Speaker 4: league team three out of four times, you know, let
- 4:59Speaker 4: alone you in tune row. Momentum is big, but you know,
- 5:02Speaker 4: also things happen. As you know, we'll get into a
- 5:05Speaker 4: little bit more for the down segment.
- 5:08Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, the way I see it right now,
- 5:10Speaker 1: they're just treading water. They're not they're not gaining any ground,
- 5:14Speaker 1: but they're not losing any ground. I mean, they were
- 5:17Speaker 1: a last place team in this division by being a
- 5:19Speaker 1: game over five hundred after getting swept by the Phillies.
- 5:23Speaker 1: And that's still what they are. They're five and five
- 5:26Speaker 1: since getting swept by the Phillies. So I mean, and
- 5:30Speaker 1: I believe Sunday was when o'hearne went on the IL, Right,
- 5:33Speaker 1: that sounds right, That sounds right. Yeah, so yeah, so
- 5:38Speaker 1: I mean, if he might have went on Saturday, it
- 5:40Speaker 1: was it was during one of those six nothing losses
- 5:43Speaker 1: where he was on the IL. But nonetheless, like if
- 5:45Speaker 1: you if you used that Phillies sweep as like a
- 5:51Speaker 1: marking point, they played five hundred baseball without Ryan O'Hearn
- 5:57Speaker 1: in in a stretch where they got two less than optimal. Yeah,
- 6:02Speaker 1: starts from Paul Skiings.
- 6:03Speaker 2: Really stand point. That's encouraging, but it's fine. Look at
- 6:07Speaker 2: the whole year too. The Pirates are also five hundred.
- 6:09Speaker 2: In Paul Skis starts, they're six and six, they're five hundred.
- 6:13Speaker 1: In general, they're one game above five hundred. Like they're
- 6:15Speaker 1: just playing to what they are. They look good sometimes,
- 6:18Speaker 1: they look bad sometimes, And I think that that's like
- 6:21Speaker 1: I think I said earlier on this show, like weeks ago,
- 6:25Speaker 1: that like when Memorial Day comes around, you kind of
- 6:27Speaker 1: have an idea of what your team is. Not to
- 6:30Speaker 1: say that, like you know, you're completely bought in one
- 6:32Speaker 1: way or another, but like that's kind of what this
- 6:36Speaker 1: team is right now. It's it's a five hundred ball club,
- 6:38Speaker 1: which isn't good enough. I mean, it's better than last year.
- 6:40Speaker 1: It's a dramatic improvement from where they were at this
- 6:43Speaker 1: time last year, but it still not good enough. So
- 6:46Speaker 1: you look at the schedule. You've got three games coming
- 6:48Speaker 1: up at home against the fighting Derek Shelton's and you've
- 6:52Speaker 1: got to win two of those, go up another game
- 6:55Speaker 1: and five, you know, go another game above five hundred.
- 6:58Speaker 1: Because you look at the calendar, that's what's coming up. Man,
- 7:01Speaker 1: you're going to Houston, you're going to Atlanta, you're going home,
- 7:05Speaker 1: and you're playing the Los Angeles Dodgers. So I mean,
- 7:09Speaker 1: June does not start off. It gets a lot easier.
- 7:11Speaker 1: You get the Marlins, you get the Rockies. But I
- 7:15Speaker 1: mean again, you're you're playing the Mariners. You're playing the
- 7:18Speaker 1: Phillies in uh, July as well or June as well.
- 7:22Speaker 1: So yeah, June's probably their toughest month on the schedule
- 7:25Speaker 1: to date. So they got to get going.
- 7:28Speaker 2: They got to get it round with a really good competition.
- 7:30Speaker 2: So far, I don't know if they're still like one
- 7:32Speaker 2: of the toughest strength of schedules thus far, but I.
- 7:35Speaker 1: Mean that's yeah. But in June, I mean you look
- 7:38Speaker 1: at it. They're for three of their first five series
- 7:42Speaker 1: against first place teams right now.
- 7:44Speaker 4: So that list of teams you just ran off, that's
- 7:47Speaker 4: some some prettyesthetic competition.
- 7:49Speaker 1: Yeah, So I mean, you can keep floating, but eventually,
- 7:52Speaker 1: like you know, that's why this weekend series against Minnesota
- 7:55Speaker 1: is really important, and they've got a really important guy
- 8:00Speaker 1: on the bump for game one of that series. Jared
- 8:03Speaker 1: Jones makes his return on Friday Today. When you're listening
- 8:07Speaker 1: to this. We're gonna talk about it after this break.
- 8:11Speaker 6: It's getting hot out there, people. Let's talk Mack Weldon
- 8:14Speaker 6: Fashion Show real quick. AJ's got the Pima crew neck
- 8:18Speaker 6: T shirt, Froth.
- 8:19Speaker 7: Heather is gross Heather's. It's got little pieces of gray
- 8:22Speaker 7: heather in there. It's nice, it's soft, it fits really well.
- 8:26Speaker 7: It's great for summer down here in Florida. And I
- 8:29Speaker 7: got a couple of linen shirts and linen pants that
- 8:32Speaker 7: are gonna look nice when I go to Europe here
- 8:33Speaker 7: in a couple of weeks.
- 8:34Speaker 5: Very nice.
- 8:35Speaker 6: Yeah, it's very smooth, very thin. I'm wearing the eighteen
- 8:38Speaker 6: hour jersey short and heather gray. I'll leave that down
- 8:41Speaker 6: here for you. And the Pema short sleeve Henley. The
- 8:45Speaker 6: color on mine is desert spring, but it really resonates it.
- 8:49Speaker 6: It fits in, kind of matches with everything in the
- 8:53Speaker 6: wardrobe too. It's the classic look. They know what they're
- 8:55Speaker 6: doing here, so check it out. We've got the code

- 9:11Speaker 6: ou l.
- 9:14Speaker 1: All right, Jared Jones he's back, folks, and guess what
- 9:18Speaker 1: he's in the starting rotation. Finally, not in the We
- 9:21Speaker 1: don't say that, we don't say the B word. He's
- 9:23Speaker 1: not in the B word. Yeah.
- 9:24Speaker 8: Uh me.
- 9:25Speaker 4: He threw one though, right, Yeah.
- 9:27Speaker 1: Yeah he did. He threw one, but he wasn't a
- 9:30Speaker 1: part of it and that's the difference. Yeah, he'll be
- 9:34Speaker 1: starting on Friday against the Minnesota Twins.
- 9:38Speaker 2: Uh.
- 9:38Speaker 1: Mark again, I'll start with you. I can see the
- 9:40Speaker 1: smile on your face. I mean, this is a this
- 9:42Speaker 1: is a big time guy, someone a lot of a
- 9:45Speaker 1: lot of the fans really love. How excited are you
- 9:47Speaker 1: to watch number thirty seven to take the bump again? Oh?
- 9:49Speaker 2: I've missed watching Jared Jones pitch so so much. Just
- 9:53Speaker 2: the fire, the energy, like he just gets it going.
- 9:56Speaker 2: You watch him on the mountain and it's electric. And
- 9:59Speaker 2: that's just his emotions. It's also his stuff. I mean,
- 10:03Speaker 2: his fastball average less Or in twenty twenty four was
- 10:06Speaker 2: ninety seven point three miles per hour. He gets a
- 10:09Speaker 2: ton of swing and misses. He's only really like a
- 10:11Speaker 2: two pitch kind of guy, fastball slider. He'll mix him
- 10:15Speaker 2: the change up more against lefties, but basically just two
- 10:19Speaker 2: pitches and really really pairs them together well, like he
- 10:24Speaker 2: can tunnel them really well keep guys off balance. So yeah,
- 10:28Speaker 2: I'm really excited to get Jones back in the rotation,
- 10:32Speaker 2: but I may be even more excited about the fact
- 10:36Speaker 2: that it pushes Carmen Macinski into the bullpen, just because
- 10:40Speaker 2: this bullpen needs so much help, and that is such
- 10:44Speaker 2: an improvement. You can go high leverage multiple innings with him.
- 10:49Speaker 2: He's been there before and he's shown that he you
- 10:53Speaker 2: can just trust him. So I really really appreciate that
- 10:58Speaker 2: aspect of the Jones move, not just getting back. Uh
- 11:02Speaker 2: so where are you guys thoughts?
- 11:04Speaker 1: Well, I wanted to ask Josh, like, what what do
- 11:07Speaker 1: you expecting to see from him? What are you looking?
- 11:10Speaker 1: Say you're Jared Jones's manager or just someone who's you know,
- 11:14Speaker 1: setting expectations. What do you expect to see from a
- 11:16Speaker 1: guy who's making his first outing post? Uh, you know,
- 11:21Speaker 1: a surgery. It wasn't Tommy John, but it was what's
- 11:24Speaker 1: it called the something brace that they had inserted. But
- 11:30Speaker 1: what What are you looking to see from him in
- 11:31Speaker 1: his first start?
- 11:32Speaker 4: Josh uh, You definitely want to see how low stress
- 11:38Speaker 4: you can keep it as far as clean innings. You know,
- 11:43Speaker 4: obviously there's gonna be some excitement. You know, a guy
- 11:45Speaker 4: that you said hasn't touched the mound in PNC since
- 11:48Speaker 4: twenty four You know, there's gonna be you know, some excitement.
- 11:53Speaker 4: He's gonna be ready to take the ball and throw
- 11:55Speaker 4: a million miles an hour, which that's all adrenaline. You
- 11:57Speaker 4: expect that, you expect to be out there and being
- 12:01Speaker 4: a bulldog that you expect him to be. But you
- 12:04Speaker 4: want him to be clean as far as you know,
- 12:07Speaker 4: mechanically coming off an injury. But you also want him
- 12:10Speaker 4: to attack the zone and you want him to have
- 12:13Speaker 4: a feel for the zone right away because obviously it's
- 12:16Speaker 4: been you know, two years, and this is gonna be
- 12:18Speaker 4: his first test in the big leagues, not only with
- 12:21Speaker 4: you know, coming off of injury like that, but new
- 12:24Speaker 4: rules with the abs and everything. You know, there's so
- 12:26Speaker 4: many more things that are gonna be you know, thrown
- 12:31Speaker 4: to him the first time in it, in this real situation.
- 12:33Speaker 4: So it's gonna be about clean innings. You know, attacking
- 12:36Speaker 4: the zone and just trying to keep it as you know,
- 12:39Speaker 4: low stress as possible, especially in a time where you
- 12:42Speaker 4: know this team needs a little pick me up and
- 12:44Speaker 4: not saying that you want him to go out there
- 12:45Speaker 4: and say, hey, we need you to give us eight shutty,
- 12:49Speaker 4: go out there, throw some clean innings, you know, get
- 12:51Speaker 4: the fans you know, excited to see you. But uh,
- 12:54Speaker 4: you know, keep your composure. And it's it's easier said
- 12:57Speaker 4: than done, because you know, coming from a guy that
- 13:00Speaker 4: spent you know, more than one time on the injured list,
- 13:03Speaker 4: I know what it's like, you know, to have to
- 13:05Speaker 4: spend you know, an extend amount of time on an
- 13:08Speaker 4: injured list, and you know you're eager to get back
- 13:10Speaker 4: and play, and uh, you know that the guys are
- 13:13Speaker 4: ready for you to get back. So it's just about say, hey, man,
- 13:16Speaker 4: stay with you yourself.
- 13:16Speaker 5: You don't have to go out.
- 13:17Speaker 4: There and throw a complete game, have fun, and you know,
- 13:22Speaker 4: be as clean as possible.
- 13:25Speaker 1: Before we wrap this segment up, I just want to
- 13:27Speaker 1: talk a little bit about Carbon Macgensky. I agree with
- 13:31Speaker 1: what Mark said. The Pirates Bullpen is in a much
- 13:34Speaker 1: much better place with Carmen Magenski to the point where
- 13:37Speaker 1: it's like, if they have a lead after six innings,
- 13:39Speaker 1: I'd just give him the ball for the seventh and
- 13:42Speaker 1: the eighth. Even after five, I would be comfortable giving
- 13:45Speaker 1: him the ball for the sixth and the seventh and
- 13:48Speaker 1: maybe the eighth, depending on what the lineup looks like
- 13:51Speaker 1: and if they're unless they're like stacking lefties against them.
- 13:54Speaker 1: I mean, he's he is a really, really good relief pitcher,
- 13:57Speaker 1: someone who can has proven to be able to throw
- 14:02Speaker 1: multiple scoreless innings of relief, and he will make this
- 14:05Speaker 1: team better. All that said, I feel for him for
- 14:10Speaker 1: this move because it's not necessarily fair. He has not
- 14:14Speaker 1: been their worst starting pitcher this year, but not even close.
- 14:18Speaker 1: I mean, the Pirates are two and nine and Bubba
- 14:21Speaker 1: Chandler starts this year. He leads the National League in walks.
- 14:25Speaker 1: He's got an urn around average over five. Now, Bubba
- 14:29Speaker 1: obviously a friend of the show. He has way higher
- 14:33Speaker 1: of a ceiling. He's younger, and he has the potential
- 14:37Speaker 1: to eat innings because he will have less workload restrictions
- 14:41Speaker 1: you would assume than Carmen, who's been in the bullpen
- 14:43Speaker 1: primarily his whole Major League career and the rest of
- 14:46Speaker 1: this rotation who has a lot of injury concerns or whatever.
- 14:51Speaker 1: But right now, Bubba's not getting it done. He would
- 14:53Speaker 1: even admit that. And I don't think that moving Bubba
- 14:56Speaker 1: to the bullpen makes the team better. I think he
- 14:59Speaker 1: would be more of of what they already have going correctly.
- 15:02Speaker 1: Them is a guy who is kind of overthrowing right
- 15:05Speaker 1: now and might be in his head a little bit,
- 15:08Speaker 1: and they don't need more of that, So I get why.
- 15:10Speaker 1: And you're not gonna option by the chandler right now,
- 15:13Speaker 1: so I understand why it is. But this is this
- 15:18Speaker 1: is an unfair spot for Carmen. It just is what
- 15:21Speaker 1: it is. And for sure that needs to be mentioned.
- 15:25Speaker 2: Being demoted, Oh yeah, I done well.
- 15:28Speaker 4: And I don't even want to say demoted because he
- 15:30Speaker 4: hasn't been demoted. But it's just one of those unfortunate
- 15:34Speaker 4: situations that for their team to be better right now,
- 15:37Speaker 4: it makes sense for him to be in a pen.
- 15:39Speaker 4: And that's not him being demoted. That's just unfortunate that
- 15:44Speaker 4: you are the guy that is able to do this,
- 15:48Speaker 4: and you know, especially for a guy you know coming
- 15:50Speaker 4: into the season where he really made it a point
- 15:52Speaker 4: he wanted to be in a rotation and as you said,
- 15:54Speaker 4: has not been the worst starter. But when situations like
- 15:58Speaker 4: this arise, who is the guy that is most comfortable
- 16:01Speaker 4: going back to that role and who makes our team better? Especially,
- 16:05Speaker 4: I think it's different if the bullpen is you know,
- 16:08Speaker 4: lights out or pitching, well, they may be reevaluate, you know,
- 16:11Speaker 4: but knowing that that is an area of need, this
- 16:15Speaker 4: is a guy that really feels that area of need.
- 16:17Speaker 4: But at the same time, you know, you do feel
- 16:20Speaker 4: for the guy you know that wanted to be a
- 16:23Speaker 4: starting picture, that has deserved that right. But you know,
- 16:26Speaker 4: in the grand scheme of things, you know, that's just
- 16:29Speaker 4: the nature of the game. Sometimes guys are dealt unfortunate
- 16:32Speaker 4: situations and you know, it's how you make the most
- 16:34Speaker 4: of it. And you know, I expect Carman to go
- 16:36Speaker 4: out there and you know, as you said, take the
- 16:39Speaker 4: ball sometimes sixth, seventh and eighth, and you know it's
- 16:41Speaker 4: could be an opportunity that you know, you don't want
- 16:44Speaker 4: to speak on it, but who knows what the future
- 16:45Speaker 4: holds for him. He's really you know, forcing their hands
- 16:48Speaker 4: for you know, future roles. But definitely a situation where
- 16:54Speaker 4: you know what you're just a guy that feels this
- 16:56Speaker 4: need for us and it's not a demotion, but it
- 16:59Speaker 4: can feel like that just because you know, he doesn't
- 17:01Speaker 4: know when he's taking the ball.
- 17:03Speaker 1: Yeah, I think all of us can relate, or everyone
- 17:07Speaker 1: watching this can relate to a situation where you get
- 17:11Speaker 1: asked to do extra stuff at work, things that you
- 17:15Speaker 1: no longer should have to do, but because you're competent
- 17:19Speaker 1: at your job, your bosses are like, look, we know
- 17:22Speaker 1: it's not fair. Yep, we know this is you're it's
- 17:26Speaker 1: beneath your pay grade, but you can do it better
- 17:29Speaker 1: than anyone else. We need you to do it. And
- 17:31Speaker 1: I think there is a lot to be said about
- 17:33Speaker 1: people who just you know, they don't have to be
- 17:37Speaker 1: happy about it, but they roll up their sleeves and
- 17:39Speaker 1: they get it done.
- 17:40Speaker 8: YEA.
- 17:40Speaker 1: What people can't relate to is being asked to do
- 17:43Speaker 1: this right before they're heading into arbitration. But that's where
- 17:48Speaker 1: we'll leave it then. So, yeah, that's unfortunate for him,
- 17:53Speaker 1: and I hope to see Carmon get another opportunity to
- 17:56Speaker 1: get back in this starting rotation because candidly, yeah, he's
- 17:59Speaker 1: proven to be one of their best five starters. Right,
- 18:01Speaker 1: right now, not long term, but right now he is
- 18:04Speaker 1: one of their best starts.
- 18:05Speaker 2: In twenty six.
- 18:06Speaker 1: Yeah, in twenty twenty six through May twenty ninth, he
- 18:11Speaker 1: is one of their best five starting pitchers. Yeah, so
- 18:13Speaker 1: all right, we're gonna take another break. Then when we
- 18:15Speaker 1: come back, we close off the show with Josh's weekly segment.
- 18:19Speaker 1: Jay hay Now.
- 18:21Speaker 6: Todd Father, I'm a last minutic guy. Sometimes you're a
- 18:24Speaker 6: last minutic guy where you all of a sudden see
- 18:26Speaker 6: a night open up and you want to go grab
- 18:28Speaker 6: some tickets, and you hadn't gotten them already, so you're
- 18:30Speaker 6: gonna seek geek, and you're gonna go look for a
- 18:33Speaker 6: green dot and see where the good seats are and
- 18:35Speaker 6: the good value is and have a little night with
- 18:38Speaker 6: the fam.
- 18:38Speaker 8: Right without a doubt. And I'm looking for some of
- 18:41Speaker 8: the best seats. I'm looking for that green dot. When
- 18:43Speaker 8: I get that, it's a simple plug it in, use
- 18:45Speaker 8: your hands, go right on your screen, your phone, whatever
- 18:49Speaker 8: platform you can get it on.
- 18:51Speaker 2: And it's so simple.
- 18:52Speaker 8: They make it so easy for you to do. Even
- 18:55Speaker 8: my son can do it if I ask him, Hey, Blakester,
- 18:58Speaker 8: let's go man, get on their Forest five. This a
- 19:00Speaker 8: couple of seats so we can watch even that Subway series.
- 19:03Speaker 8: That would be fantastic. See Geek has it all there
- 19:06Speaker 8: for you.
- 19:06Speaker 6: Yeah, and the code for you you should know it.
- 19:09Speaker 6: It's Territory ten. It just gets you ten percent off
- 19:11Speaker 6: your next set of tickets as ten percent off any
- 19:13Speaker 6: tickets with promo code Territory one zero. Make sure you
- 19:16Speaker 6: click the link in the description, download the app. Then
- 19:19Speaker 6: the code is automatically added to your account so you
- 19:20Speaker 6: can use it later.
- 19:26Speaker 3: What do you say, Oh yeah, j Hay, Now word
- 19:39Speaker 3: to the editors right there.
- 19:41Speaker 4: Man, that's a nice little promo video. But on another note,
- 19:45Speaker 4: on it's Jay Now we're gonna get a little serious,
- 19:47Speaker 4: nothing too sappy, but some have noticed that just happened.
- 19:51Speaker 4: Obviously want to highlight KG kind of griffin with you know,
- 19:56Speaker 4: the day to day you know, precautions been taken out
- 20:01Speaker 4: more anything, and yes, this is just more highlighting that.
- 20:05Speaker 4: But also on a bigger note, a little bit of
- 20:07Speaker 4: the injury bug. We spoke a little bit on it
- 20:09Speaker 4: with O her and being down. Some guys have stepped
- 20:12Speaker 4: up and then obviously the news of KG today and
- 20:14Speaker 4: then I think during the game, Nick Gonzales might have
- 20:17Speaker 4: filed a ball off his foot one of those things.
- 20:20Speaker 4: And just obviously going off of what we've talked about
- 20:23Speaker 4: with the serious split tread and water that and kind
- 20:26Speaker 4: of you know, hanging in there. This this is another
- 20:30Speaker 4: testament of you know, one hundred and sixty two and
- 20:33Speaker 4: really going to test their death. So this j now
- 20:36Speaker 4: segment is you know, testing that depth obviously with the
- 20:41Speaker 4: wave of you know injuries and you know aches and
- 20:44Speaker 4: things that are going on that you know they gotta
- 20:47Speaker 4: make some adjustments with obviously Callahan being brought up and
- 20:50Speaker 4: being put right into the lineup or finding his way
- 20:54Speaker 4: into the lineup. That right there, you know, just you know,
- 20:58Speaker 4: set off a little bit of radar saying, you know,
- 21:01Speaker 4: the depth is being tested a lot earlier and a
- 21:04Speaker 4: lot more than they probably anticipated. But just knowing that,
- 21:10Speaker 4: as I say, you gotta have guys to step up
- 21:13Speaker 4: and Callahan I think today had a double. But there's
- 21:17Speaker 4: gonna be you know, obviously with this day to day
- 21:19Speaker 4: with KG until they really get it figured out or
- 21:22Speaker 4: whatever the case may be, you gotta have some guys
- 21:26Speaker 4: step up. And it's one sixty two, next man up,
- 21:31Speaker 4: But hold the line and get our guys back. So
- 21:35Speaker 4: that was something I've notice to me is that said
- 21:38Speaker 4: Baseball's gonna happen, and you know you don't want to
- 21:40Speaker 4: speak on it, but at some point injuries you don't
- 21:43Speaker 4: want to say they are gonna pile up, but you're
- 21:44Speaker 4: gonna have guys coming in and out and you know
- 21:47Speaker 4: you're gonna be tested and they're being tested.
- 21:51Speaker 1: And I'll just say this, I mean, Connor Griffin is
- 21:53Speaker 1: just not a player they can afford to lose right now.
- 21:55Speaker 4: Oh no, I mean and I did forget to add
- 21:59Speaker 4: on like with him and Oharn, like key players, not just.
- 22:02Speaker 2: Yeah, it's gonna be my point exactly. The injury bug
- 22:05Speaker 2: is the positions that they can't lose, where yeah, you're
- 22:09Speaker 2: talking about shortstop. Coming into this year, they couldn't last
- 22:12Speaker 2: five games or six games without Connor Griffin before they
- 22:15Speaker 2: had to call him up because they realized how much
- 22:18Speaker 2: this team needs Connor Griffin on it. And same thing
- 22:21Speaker 2: with Ryan o'hearna. I mean, he is just such an
- 22:23Speaker 2: impact and so you can see like this offense hasn't
- 22:25Speaker 2: been as much in like in tune with him gone,
- 22:29Speaker 2: and even to start the year with Jared Triello where
- 22:32Speaker 2: we're like third base is the biggest hole on this roster,
- 22:36Speaker 2: and of course the first guy that gets injured is
- 22:38Speaker 2: the primary third base, so it has been tough from that,
- 22:42Speaker 2: I mean, at least we haven't had any pitching injuries.
- 22:44Speaker 2: Knock on wood.
- 22:46Speaker 1: Oh, I cannot believe he just said, yeah, yeah.
- 22:49Speaker 2: But I mean, and those are gonna happen regardless if
- 22:52Speaker 2: I say it, you know, but uh yeah. It's the
- 22:55Speaker 2: biggest takeaway has just been how tough the injuries have been.
- 22:58Speaker 2: Luckily they haven't been too seas. It seems like ohearen's
- 23:02Speaker 2: trending back. He's going to come back quicker than the
- 23:04Speaker 2: four weeks they anticipated he might be out, and doesn't
- 23:08Speaker 2: seem like Connor's too long day to day, it seems like,
- 23:11Speaker 2: and same with Nick Zales day to day, so bad
- 23:15Speaker 2: day to record and discuss injuries. It seems like we
- 23:17Speaker 2: might have just caught a little gap here. But Noah,
- 23:21Speaker 2: the guy who shared the news that of Connor's injury
- 23:24Speaker 2: with all this Pirates fans were your thoughts on this?
- 23:29Speaker 1: Not much? I mean, right now, it's from my understanding,
- 23:32Speaker 1: it seemed like things are more cautionary than anything, which
- 23:35Speaker 1: is a good sign. But I mean, you know the
- 23:37Speaker 1: fact that they have to run tests, the fact that
- 23:40Speaker 1: he's not playing is a concern, Like you want your
- 23:44Speaker 1: guy out there, and like I said, I mean, this
- 23:46Speaker 1: guy was trending to be like a four win player. Yeah,
- 23:50Speaker 1: and you need those, You need those that You need
- 23:55Speaker 1: those in the infield. You need that guy at shortstop.
- 23:58Speaker 1: You need a guy who's gonna steal you know, bases
- 24:00Speaker 1: when he gets on. You need someone who is starting
- 24:03Speaker 1: to get more at bats in the top third of
- 24:05Speaker 1: the lineup. That's that's a player that's not just a
- 24:07Speaker 1: player the Pirates can't afford to lose. No one can
- 24:10Speaker 1: afford to lose a Yeah, like that's you take away
- 24:16Speaker 1: any team starting shortstop, they're a worse team. That's just
- 24:19Speaker 1: how it goes. So I mean, in the fact that
- 24:22Speaker 1: this team really only has one shortstop. I know, we
- 24:24Speaker 1: talk about how good of a defender Jared Triolo is.
- 24:27Speaker 1: He's not that good of a defender at short He
- 24:30Speaker 1: just isn't. I mean, he's better than what they have
- 24:32Speaker 1: to work with. And if Gonzalez is down too, then
- 24:34Speaker 1: they really just don't have anyone else who can even
- 24:37Speaker 1: play that position right now. So yeah, it's a concern.
- 24:42Speaker 1: And again we're talking under the presumption that like this
- 24:46Speaker 1: is bad, there's a good chance that this isn't And
- 24:49Speaker 1: you know that the IL isn't an option right now.
- 24:52Speaker 1: So uh, it's day to day, and you know it
- 24:56Speaker 1: might be something simple where it's like maybe they d
- 24:59Speaker 1: h him for a couple of days, just because you know,
- 25:01Speaker 1: it sounds like throwing like the only issue here if
- 25:06Speaker 1: it's forearmed, Like I don't think a swing would be
- 25:08Speaker 1: impacted by that, So you know, maybe rest up and
- 25:12Speaker 1: if he's good to go, he's good to go. If
- 25:14Speaker 1: he's not, yeah, that's the problem. I don't I don't
- 25:18Speaker 1: know what you would do. I mean, like, as I said,
- 25:21Speaker 1: you really only have one shortstop right now if Gonzalez
- 25:26Speaker 1: is also injured because he was moved from the game
- 25:28Speaker 1: on Thursday. So it's scary for Pirates fans, it's no doubt.
- 25:32Speaker 1: And you know, just as someone who's again Connor friend
- 25:35Speaker 1: of the show, had a lot of good conversations with him.
- 25:38Speaker 1: He was really putting it together. He had a really
- 25:40Speaker 1: good month of May. I'd hate to see him sidelined
- 25:43Speaker 1: and you know, put on ice that sucks. So hopefully
- 25:46Speaker 1: he's okay. All right, guys. Before I issue any final thoughts,
- 25:53Speaker 1: I want to remind everyone to hit that subscribe button
- 25:56Speaker 1: if they haven't already. Uh, we're on a mission of
- 25:59Speaker 1: three thousand subs, can't get there without your help. Also,
- 26:03Speaker 1: be sure to check out our Bucco Territory team shop
- 26:06Speaker 1: where we've got all of your goodies to support the show.
- 26:10Speaker 1: We appreciate everyone who is rocking merch. I believe I
- 26:13Speaker 1: saw someone rocking some Bucks Territory merch. Oh look at that.
- 26:18Speaker 2: Yeah, so you'll see that when I rock up to
- 26:21Speaker 2: PNC part Yeah, be decked out with a fanny pack.
- 26:25Speaker 2: So pick that up. Really high quality. Pretty impressed with it.
- 26:27Speaker 1: So it looked pretty good. Actually yeah good? All right guys,
- 26:33Speaker 1: any final thoughts before we wrap it up?
- 26:35Speaker 8: Ah?
- 26:35Speaker 2: Yeah, I got one for sure. I don't know if
- 26:39Speaker 2: you guys listening. Uh had a chance to read Noah's
- 26:41Speaker 2: column today. Uh, we're recording this Thursday night. Uh, but
- 26:47Speaker 2: make sure you get that one to read. He discusses
- 26:50Speaker 2: a diehard Buckos fan who's dealing with terminal cancer. Right now,
- 26:56Speaker 2: Mike's going to be thrown out the first pitch on Friday,
- 26:59Speaker 2: the night that this releases, So very cool for the
- 27:02Speaker 2: Pirates to you know, give him that opportunity. This is
- 27:04Speaker 2: a guy who proposed at P and C Park, had
- 27:07Speaker 2: his wedding at like the Renaissance Hotel right across the street.
- 27:12Speaker 2: A guy who uses the Pirates as an escape. You know,
- 27:15Speaker 2: I think a lot of us do, and just kind
- 27:18Speaker 2: of highlight that beauty of sports that it allows us,
- 27:22Speaker 2: you know, a reprieve from all the tough stuff going
- 27:25Speaker 2: on in life, even if it's a little tough when
- 27:27Speaker 2: we watch sometimes. So just make sure to give that
- 27:30Speaker 2: article a read. It you did a really phenomenal job
- 27:33Speaker 2: covering that. That's not an easy topic to write about.
- 27:38Speaker 2: But I'm really glad that you highlighted that for Mike
- 27:40Speaker 2: and his family. And so if you're listening to this
- 27:43Speaker 2: and the twenty eighth something minute, make sure you go
- 27:46Speaker 2: give that read. It's well worth your time. Any final thoughts, Josh, Yeah,
- 27:50Speaker 2: following that up.
- 27:51Speaker 4: No, No, I think you hit it, you know, hit
- 27:54Speaker 4: the nail on the head. Go give that a read.
- 27:57Speaker 4: I think everybody that does will definitely you know, be
- 28:01Speaker 4: grateful that they read it.
- 28:02Speaker 1: Yet, Yeah, I just want to think Mike and his
- 28:07Speaker 1: family that was that was a really empowering story to
- 28:12Speaker 1: tell just some context real quick. I mean, not only
- 28:16Speaker 1: does this guy have incurable cancer, he lost his mom
- 28:19Speaker 1: and two siblings to cancer due to a rare genetic disorder.
- 28:24Speaker 1: So his family's been through hell from this disease. But
- 28:27Speaker 1: baseball has been something he's leaned on during some incredibly
- 28:31Speaker 1: dark times and it kind of puts life in perspective
- 28:35Speaker 1: a little bit. And it also kind of explains why
- 28:38Speaker 1: we all love this game. I mean, some of us
- 28:40Speaker 1: get to play it longer than others, some of us
- 28:42Speaker 1: get to cover it, and some of us get to
- 28:44Speaker 1: just post a million Twitter clips about it. But at
- 28:48Speaker 1: the end of the day, like we all love this
- 28:50Speaker 1: sport for something that's way bigger than all of us,
- 28:53Speaker 1: and it's because it's in a great game that connects
- 28:55Speaker 1: people and gives your reason to sit down on a
- 28:58Speaker 1: couch or on a bar, or at a in a
- 29:02Speaker 1: stadium and just enjoy it for three hours a day
- 29:06Speaker 1: for nine months out of the year. You have an escape,
- 29:08Speaker 1: and that's why baseball is the best. So for Platinum
- 29:12Speaker 1: Key and Josh Harrison, I'm Noah Haile signing off saying
- 29:16Speaker 1: thanks for tuning in to another episode of Bucco Territory,
- 29:19Speaker 1: presented to you by the Foul Territory Network. Take care,
