Transcript
- 0:24Speaker 1: Hey, folks, and welcome to Movie Crush. It's Chuck Bryant here,
- 0:27Speaker 1: and uh boy, I gotta tell you this week is
- 0:31Speaker 1: a pretty special episode. Uh this one needs a little
- 0:34Speaker 1: bit of set up, and I urge you to, uh
- 0:36Speaker 1: to listen to this one because the background of Tig
- 0:39Speaker 1: Nataro's interview and how this thing started was, uh, well,
- 0:44Speaker 1: well here's here's what went down. So I had met
- 0:47Speaker 1: Tig before at her comedy festival that she curates every year,
- 0:51Speaker 1: Benson Ball in Washington, d C. And Josh and I
- 0:55Speaker 1: do our stuff you should know, live there usually every year,
- 0:58Speaker 1: and was lucky enough to meet her last year and
- 1:00Speaker 1: she's just really sweet and a very nice person. And
- 1:04Speaker 1: so I hit her up to be on this show
- 1:07Speaker 1: because she was coming through town to perform, and she
- 1:11Speaker 1: said yes. It was very sweet of her to do so.
- 1:13Speaker 1: And so day of the show, waiting for her to
- 1:17Speaker 1: get here, texting with her assistant who was traveling with her,
- 1:21Speaker 1: and uh, they said, all right, she's here, meet us downstairs.
- 1:25Speaker 1: Met her downstairs. I was really excited because I adore
- 1:29Speaker 1: Tick Nataro in her comedy, as I'm sure everyone listening does.
- 1:34Speaker 1: And I meet her downstairs in our building and she's, Um,
- 1:38Speaker 1: she's just a little weirdly removed, I guess the best
- 1:41Speaker 1: way to say it. She's a very warm, friendly person,
- 1:44Speaker 1: So it was different than I was expecting to get. Uh.
- 1:50Speaker 1: She wasn't being mean or anything. She wouldn't be in
- 1:51Speaker 1: a jerk, but I could tell something was going on,
- 1:54Speaker 1: and I was uh, kind of walked around the building
- 1:57Speaker 1: a little bit and then got on the elevator, and
- 1:58Speaker 1: the whole time she was just sort of nodding and
- 2:00Speaker 1: being being nice enough, but something was off, and I
- 2:03Speaker 1: could tell something was off. So we get up here
- 2:07Speaker 1: in the studio and she needs a moment to uh,
- 2:10Speaker 1: to go to the little podcaster's room. So I walk
- 2:14Speaker 1: her over there to the bathroom and say, here you go,
- 2:15Speaker 1: I'll be inside. It's fine. She takes a while. She
- 2:19Speaker 1: gets on the phone outside and it's sort of having
- 2:23Speaker 1: a it looks like a fairly intense conversation, and uh
- 2:28Speaker 1: wraps that up, and then we get into the studio.
- 2:32Speaker 1: We sit down and we we are just sort of
- 2:35Speaker 1: small talking initially, and she starts to cry right there
- 2:41Speaker 1: in front of my face, and I don't know what
- 2:45Speaker 1: to do. Um, she's just sort of crying and saying
- 2:48Speaker 1: I'm sorry, I'm sorry, and I go all right, listen, um,
- 2:52Speaker 1: I'm gonna give you a minute. And her assistance actually
- 2:54Speaker 1: in the studio with us so said, I'm gonna give
- 2:56Speaker 1: you all a sec uh and step out, um and
- 2:59Speaker 1: let you, you know, deal with whatever's going on here.
- 3:02Speaker 1: So I go out and I start chatting with producer
- 3:05Speaker 1: Noel and I'm like, ticks in there crying and he,
- 3:09Speaker 1: you know, he saw what was going on through the
- 3:11Speaker 1: through the window here, and nobody knows what to do.
- 3:14Speaker 1: Jerry's kind of over there too, and we're all just
- 3:17Speaker 1: sort of wondering what we should do. So I give
- 3:21Speaker 1: it a little bit of time. Finally, her assistant comes
- 3:23Speaker 1: out and says, hey, she's good. She wants to do this.
- 3:26Speaker 1: So I was like, are you sure and he says yes,
- 3:28Speaker 1: come back in the studio. I sit down and I said,
- 3:31Speaker 1: listen to it. Said, we do not have to do this.
- 3:34Speaker 1: I said, whatever you've got going on is more important
- 3:38Speaker 1: than this silly little show. And I will not think
- 3:40Speaker 1: any less of you. Uh. If you want to postpone
- 3:45Speaker 1: or cancel or whatever, I said, you take care of
- 3:47Speaker 1: yourself here. That's what's important. And she said, she said,
- 3:51Speaker 1: no, no no, no, I'll be all right. I was like,
- 3:53Speaker 1: all right, and uh, I was like, are you sure.
- 3:56Speaker 1: She said yeah, and she looked at me, and she
- 3:59Speaker 1: looked at her phone own and she was sort of
- 4:01Speaker 1: still wiping tears from her eyes, and she said it
- 4:04Speaker 1: looks like I'm gonna live. And I just stopped, and
- 4:09Speaker 1: I start to get a little emotional, honestly because I'm
- 4:11Speaker 1: a sensitive guy. And I was like, what do you mean?
- 4:14Speaker 1: And she said that was my doctor and she said,
- 4:17Speaker 1: I had my five year ah results from my cancer
- 4:22Speaker 1: treatment come back. And it was basically a call I
- 4:25Speaker 1: was have been waiting on for three days on whether
- 4:29Speaker 1: or not the cancer was back, and if the cancer
- 4:31Speaker 1: was back in the way that they thought it could be,
- 4:35Speaker 1: it would be a death sentence for me. And I
- 4:37Speaker 1: just got the call I'm gonna live. And I am
- 4:41Speaker 1: like literally fighting back tears at this point. Uh. She's
- 4:47Speaker 1: two ft from me, and it's a very intense situation
- 4:49Speaker 1: and she's sort of crying laughing at this point. So
- 4:53Speaker 1: it's a good call. That's the great news. Um. But
- 4:56Speaker 1: she was just overcome, obviously, And so we kind of
- 4:59Speaker 1: chat for a moment and about she she called her
- 5:01Speaker 1: her wife, Stephanie and shared the good news with her
- 5:05Speaker 1: and they were crying and it was just really a
- 5:08Speaker 1: super super special moment. But even so, even though it
- 5:11Speaker 1: was good news, I said, listen, seriously, I know it's great,
- 5:16Speaker 1: but if you you still don't have to do this,
- 5:18Speaker 1: like we're literally sitting here about to talk about the
- 5:20Speaker 1: movie mask and I don't blame you if this is
- 5:24Speaker 1: like not what you want to do right now. And
- 5:25Speaker 1: she said no, and she said, you know what, she said,
- 5:28Speaker 1: this is exactly what I want to do right now.
- 5:31Speaker 1: So that's the setup for this episode. Uh, my second
- 5:35Speaker 1: interview ever with someone um for the show, not like
- 5:41Speaker 1: the most accomplished interviewer yet, so needless to say, I
- 5:45Speaker 1: was sort of on ice skates at this point, um,
- 5:48Speaker 1: but it made for a really good conversation and I
- 5:52Speaker 1: just really hope you enjoy it. So here we go
- 5:55Speaker 1: with Tick Nataro and mask Man. Well, and especially after
- 6:02Speaker 1: everything well and I'm right at my five year um
- 6:07Speaker 1: mark where I was supposed to be technically in remission
- 6:10Speaker 1: and people have been congratulating me, and I've been like
- 6:13Speaker 1: walking around with like, well or I might be terrible,
- 6:17Speaker 1: you know, Um, so I've just been like, come on,
- 6:20Speaker 1: let's just get this news and um uh. And a
- 6:24Speaker 1: funny addition to this is that Thomas was just talking
- 6:27Speaker 1: about how uncomfortably is with people crying. I've never cried.
- 6:34Speaker 1: We've worked together now for a long time. I've never
- 6:36Speaker 1: cried in front of him. And then I'm like, oh, well,
- 6:39Speaker 1: like the day after, he was like, well, I'm a
- 6:42Speaker 1: little awkward when people cry, Like, oh no, I have
- 6:46Speaker 1: to release this. Um this sad but very excited, new
- 6:53Speaker 1: excited energy. Yeah. He was specifically talking about ex girl friends.
- 6:58Speaker 1: Okay on track good, I'm alive. Stephanie knows. I told him.
- 7:05Speaker 1: I told him. I told her, and she was texting
- 7:09Speaker 1: that she was crying, and I think that really triggered me. Yeah. Well,
- 7:13Speaker 1: and you have kids now, it's like not that it's
- 7:15Speaker 1: ever a light, but that I have a lot in
- 7:21Speaker 1: my life. Yeah, I love that's awesome. So everything's going
- 7:25Speaker 1: great with the kids, Yeah, everything's I mean, I really
- 7:30Speaker 1: have a pretty splendid life. Yeah, so there'd be a
- 7:33Speaker 1: lot to mourn. Yeah. So uh yeah, anyway, boy is
- 7:38Speaker 1: going to go down and history me too, Me too,
- 7:44Speaker 1: um my apologies. Oh no, they're everyone. I think you
- 7:49Speaker 1: have this thing where everyone cares about you so much
- 7:52Speaker 1: as fans because you've been so open about all your
- 7:57Speaker 1: experiences the past few years. So I think everyone feels
- 8:01Speaker 1: like like you get a collective hug from your fan base,
- 8:04Speaker 1: which I don't know if you can feel that, I'm
- 8:06Speaker 1: sure you can. I definitely can. So Thomas gets the
- 8:09Speaker 1: residual stuff at the merge booth. Are you doing season
- 8:14Speaker 1: two of What Mississippi's coming out September eight? I'm so glad. Yeah,
- 8:18Speaker 1: it's so great. Um, I think it has one of
- 8:22Speaker 1: those I think the quality that I find a lot
- 8:26Speaker 1: of TV shows is attracted to me is heart and
- 8:30Speaker 1: um like Master of None is another one, and I
- 8:32Speaker 1: think both those shows just have so much heart. Uh.
- 8:35Speaker 1: And that's something you can't manufacture, you know. So uh,
- 8:39Speaker 1: it's it's great, you can manufacture, it's just do you
- 8:44Speaker 1: want to watch it? Yeah? Well exactly, Paul start, I guess.
- 8:48Speaker 1: But my family families from Mississippi, so it's sort of
- 8:50Speaker 1: that's what he was. He was reading that to me
- 8:53Speaker 1: in the car. Oh, how how did you know Wikipedia? Oh?
- 8:57Speaker 1: Is that on there? My family in Mississippi. They started
- 9:04Speaker 1: an email chain that I was on talking about how
- 9:10Speaker 1: I have a Wikipedia page, and they were all like oh,
- 9:14Speaker 1: chiming in, like wow, right, guys, I've actually done a
- 9:23Speaker 1: lot of other things and you could probably have your
- 9:25Speaker 1: own Wikipedia page to write I mean somehow someway. Um,
- 9:31Speaker 1: but this is not my biggest, biggest accomplishment. I hope not. Well,
- 9:37Speaker 1: I think for a long time and stuff, you should
- 9:39Speaker 1: know how to page. But I was like, no, why
- 9:41Speaker 1: don't I have a personal page? And then that happened.
- 9:43Speaker 1: I was like, be careful what you wish for. But um, yeah,
- 9:46Speaker 1: my family, my dad's uh ancestry is from like Tupelo
- 9:52Speaker 1: and Jackson, and I don't know, that's your that's your family.
- 10:02Speaker 1: You have to you know all the towns of Mississippi, right,
- 10:05Speaker 1: So I went there as a kid growing up and stuff.
- 10:07Speaker 1: So it's kind of cool to see, um, although you
- 10:10Speaker 1: didn't grow up there, right. I was born in Jackson.
- 10:14Speaker 1: Then we moved to Pastristam, Mississippi on the Gulf Coast,
- 10:17Speaker 1: and then yeah, we moved outside of Houston to Spring, Texas,
- 10:21Speaker 1: and then I used to spend our summers in New
- 10:26Speaker 1: Orleans and Jackson and Hattsburg and pastors Stan Right. Yeah,
- 10:31Speaker 1: so you're familiar with this weather, don't you out too much? Good?
- 10:36Speaker 1: Were your early days in Houston? Like, were you a
- 10:40Speaker 1: big movie goer? Was? How did did they factor in? Um?
- 10:45Speaker 1: I went and saw Greece and Star Wars, which are
- 10:49Speaker 1: kind of my two big movies. Uh, yeah, you know what,
- 10:58Speaker 1: I remember going to see Eddie Murphy his concert films,
- 11:05Speaker 1: and also you know all Molly Ringwald movies. Um, yeah,
- 11:13Speaker 1: just all that kind of I guess rat pack type
- 11:15Speaker 1: of stuff, Molly ringwalden I was. I think I've always
- 11:19Speaker 1: been a little more of a music person, and I
- 11:23Speaker 1: followed stand up a lot also until I got into it,
- 11:27Speaker 1: comedy records and um, but yeah, I think consistently through life,
- 11:33Speaker 1: I'm always more heavily in the music world. Thomas and
- 11:38Speaker 1: I were driving to Georgia yesterday, and I mean just
- 11:45Speaker 1: going through anywhere from the Indigo Girls to Frightened Rabbit
- 11:49Speaker 1: to Ronnie James Dio. You know, yeah, I don't, I
- 11:54Speaker 1: don't just somehere. But it was a fun. Uh, it
- 11:59Speaker 1: was a fun little drive. So you drove on this uh,
- 12:02Speaker 1: I think you said you were Mississippi and then Oxford, Yeah, Oxford, Birmingham, Atlanta. Yeah, yeah,
- 12:11Speaker 1: Thomas and we're talking before how do we mention who
- 12:14Speaker 1: Thomas is? Yeah, Thomas is your assistant. It was feet
- 12:18Speaker 1: from us, giggling in the background, smiling so proud of me. Right, Um, yeah,
- 12:29Speaker 1: we were talking about stuff you show did a Birmingham show,
- 12:32Speaker 1: and just how sometimes when you go to places like
- 12:34Speaker 1: Birmingham and Oxford, they're just so appreciative. It's just really lovely. Well,
- 12:38Speaker 1: I was reading um about Birmingham and I guess it's
- 12:44Speaker 1: the number one unless I have completely wrong information, but
- 12:49Speaker 1: the number one most liberal city in the Southern States.
- 12:53Speaker 1: Oh really Yeah, m hmmm, probably of a certain size.
- 12:58Speaker 1: Maybe I can't imagine a more liberal than like Athens, Georgia. Um,
- 13:04Speaker 1: I don't. I don't know. How do you measure how
- 13:06Speaker 1: liberal are places too? I'm not sure, but I could
- 13:10Speaker 1: believe that though Birmingham is pretty cool. I think it's
- 13:12Speaker 1: a pretty cool rep Yeah, I was. I was stunned.
- 13:15Speaker 1: And I think Atlanta was ranking fourth. Yeah, where the
- 13:19Speaker 1: city of Atlanta is, Um, it's fairly liberal and like
- 13:24Speaker 1: the in town neighborhoods are, well, I know it's fairly
- 13:26Speaker 1: liberal in Atlanta. I guess my shock was I thought
- 13:29Speaker 1: it would be closer to the top, right, Yeah, yeah,
- 13:33Speaker 1: I did too. I wonder what number two and three were.
- 13:36Speaker 1: I don't remember. Again, I could have gotten all the
- 13:39Speaker 1: wrong information. I'm here to spread. That's not what it
- 13:44Speaker 1: shows about it anyway. Um, so we can go ahead
- 13:47Speaker 1: and get into Mask if you want. Um I did.
- 13:50Speaker 1: I should let everyone know I've verified a little nervously
- 13:52Speaker 1: right before that it was not the Mask, the Jim
- 13:55Speaker 1: Carey movie, because I don't know what I would have
- 13:58Speaker 1: said about that. Well, here is the thing. There was
- 14:01Speaker 1: a part of me that wanted to reach out and
- 14:04Speaker 1: clarify which one. But then I also thought, it'll be
- 14:10Speaker 1: hilarious if you researched the wrong movie and I came
- 14:14Speaker 1: in to do a more dramatic film, and yours is
- 14:19Speaker 1: You've researched this over the top, ridiculous film. And so
- 14:23Speaker 1: I was like, you know what, just leave it. I
- 14:26Speaker 1: appreciate that. Let it do what it wants to. Yeah.
- 14:31Speaker 1: I think I would be in a panic if I
- 14:33Speaker 1: hadn't seen Mask, and that happened. But Mask, for me
- 14:37Speaker 1: was it was a big HBO movie. For me. I
- 14:41Speaker 1: was born in Oh, yeah, what's your birthday? What's your birthday?
- 14:47Speaker 1: Mar shut up really alright? Yeah, well, all right in
- 14:54Speaker 1: Mississippi ancestry. So when I was third, I guess we
- 14:59Speaker 1: were four seen then when he's kind of fun to
- 15:03Speaker 1: say when Mask came out and it was I don't
- 15:07Speaker 1: know about you, but HBO when that um landed in
- 15:10Speaker 1: my neighborhood, we were kind of one of the last
- 15:12Speaker 1: neighborhoods to get it because I kind of lived out
- 15:15Speaker 1: in the woods and on a dirt road until it
- 15:17Speaker 1: was paved when I was like twelve, So it was
- 15:19Speaker 1: a really really big deal. Right, So HBO came late,
- 15:25Speaker 1: and uh, I would just watch some of these movies
- 15:28Speaker 1: over and over again, and Mask was one of those.
- 15:31Speaker 1: You know what my HBO movie was, What under the Rainbow?
- 15:36Speaker 1: Oh yeah, Chevy Chase. Uh what was the premisi was
- 15:41Speaker 1: a Wizard of Oz like remake. No, I actually don't
- 15:46Speaker 1: even remember what the movie was about, but I remember
- 15:49Speaker 1: there were just a lot of little people, and um,
- 15:53Speaker 1: I watched it several times today anytime it was on HBO,
- 15:58Speaker 1: I was like, well, I know what I'm doing with
- 16:00Speaker 1: my time. Yeah, I don't remember the premise that there
- 16:04Speaker 1: was definitely a Wizard of Oz angle. I don't know
- 16:06Speaker 1: if they were trying to do a remake or a
- 16:07Speaker 1: musical or something. I have no idea. I mean, nothing
- 16:11Speaker 1: stuck except Chevy Chase and Little People and but really
- 16:18Speaker 1: I think that's the movie I've seen most in my
- 16:21Speaker 1: life is Under the Rainbow thanks to HBO. Have you
- 16:27Speaker 1: ever heard of that? Well, yeah, watch it. It didn't.
- 16:30Speaker 1: Um that's not one of the like, that's not one
- 16:33Speaker 1: of those even here about anymore of course not. It
- 16:35Speaker 1: didn't live on in like the popular culture. I think
- 16:38Speaker 1: it was thriving at the time, but something like Mask
- 16:41Speaker 1: like still you know, I think people still talk about
- 16:45Speaker 1: that kind of movie. I bring up Mask a lot
- 16:47Speaker 1: and it is often followed by the Mask. So yeah,
- 16:53Speaker 1: um so I watched it today again, um, Mask is
- 16:57Speaker 1: really hard to find, um Like, you can't even pay
- 17:02Speaker 1: for it on YouTube and as a rental um Like.
- 17:06Speaker 1: I had to watch it on it on YouTube. But
- 17:08Speaker 1: it was a The screen was in the top little
- 17:13Speaker 1: third of the corner and then all around it were
- 17:16Speaker 1: like starbursts going off and it was in Yeah that's
- 17:19Speaker 1: the original So that sounds about terrible quality. Was really weird,
- 17:24Speaker 1: But I've seen it, like I said, because of HBO,
- 17:26Speaker 1: saw I don't. I mean, I can't even hazard a guess,
- 17:29Speaker 1: but at least like ten times probably. So It's a
- 17:32Speaker 1: movie I was really familiar with, but I hadn't seen
- 17:35Speaker 1: in many, many years, so it was it was fun to,
- 17:37Speaker 1: you know, kind of go back and watch it. Now,
- 17:39Speaker 1: this is an embarrassing moment where I admit I didn't
- 17:43Speaker 1: go back and watch it. That's okay, okay, no, no, no,
- 17:46Speaker 1: that wasn't like part of my There won't be a quiz,
- 17:50Speaker 1: so you don't need to worry about it. You remember
- 17:52Speaker 1: the gist of the movie, right, yes, do so? Eric Stoltz,
- 17:55Speaker 1: Oh I remember? Yes? Okay, I thought I thought you
- 17:57Speaker 1: were about to say I didn't know that who that was? No? No,
- 18:00Speaker 1: sure did. Yeah. I read a funny thing today where
- 18:03Speaker 1: apparently at the rat party, uh, there were crew members
- 18:06Speaker 1: introducing themselves to him because they didn't see him out
- 18:08Speaker 1: of his makeup, so they didn't even know Eric's like
- 18:11Speaker 1: what Erik Saltz looked like. And I also read that
- 18:14Speaker 1: share dated him after the movie, which really, yeah, kind
- 18:18Speaker 1: of tarnished it a bit in my head, that is
- 18:23Speaker 1: that's bizarre. Yeah, I thought it was a little bit weird.
- 18:25Speaker 1: I was about to say, are they the same age?
- 18:27Speaker 1: But guess that doesn't matter. Well, no, of course not.
- 18:31Speaker 1: But my wife's fifteen years younger than me. I think
- 18:33Speaker 1: that's about the age difference of sertol. Did I just
- 18:36Speaker 1: ruin it for you about me and Stephanie? No, no, no, no,
- 18:39Speaker 1: that doesn't tarnish because well you didn't play your mom
- 18:42Speaker 1: in a movie, so no, I played her love interest
- 18:45Speaker 1: in a movie. That's right. Uh, she's really good in
- 18:48Speaker 1: One Mississippi too. It's like that's part of the heart
- 18:51Speaker 1: of that show. I think. Is this like a little
- 18:53Speaker 1: sweet budding relationship that you guys have. She's so good
- 18:56Speaker 1: in season two, she's so good. Really, Oh my gosh,
- 19:00Speaker 1: who is the guy that plays your dad? Or yeah?
- 19:04Speaker 1: Um John Rothman, Well he's so good and I've seen
- 19:09Speaker 1: him like over the years as a character actor, but uh,
- 19:13Speaker 1: she's that role is just so like internal. But um
- 19:17Speaker 1: he's doing a lot with it. Yeah. Yeah, it's really
- 19:21Speaker 1: uh fun to watch. Yeah, I just can't wait for
- 19:24Speaker 1: season two, very excited. Um, so you know probably that
- 19:30Speaker 1: Springsteen was supposed to be the songs, right or do
- 19:33Speaker 1: you know that? I know what? Don't Bob seeger Bob
- 19:40Speaker 1: Seger was the sound the soundtrack. Yeah, so he he
- 19:44Speaker 1: was the stand in. Um Peter Bogdanovich, Um, the director
- 19:49Speaker 1: was insistent on Springsteen being the guy because in real life,
- 19:52Speaker 1: the real Rocky Dennis was a Springsteen fanatic, and so
- 19:57Speaker 1: UM very famously he Uh. They had a battle because
- 20:02Speaker 1: I think the record label UM and the I can't
- 20:06Speaker 1: remember it was Columbia or Universal who was who? I
- 20:08Speaker 1: think Springsteen was on Columbia and Universal was the movie studio.
- 20:12Speaker 1: But they someone didn't like each other and they wouldn't
- 20:14Speaker 1: allow it, and um and Bogdanovitch later sued the studio
- 20:20Speaker 1: because they made him use Bob Seeger, whom I don't
- 20:24Speaker 1: even think he cared for. Really, I feel like makes
- 20:28Speaker 1: that movie. Oh my gosh, the end credits. I remember, Um,
- 20:36Speaker 1: what Bob Seger song is that? Um, well, I can't
- 20:42Speaker 1: tell you because I watched the director's cut today which
- 20:44Speaker 1: has Springsteen. Really yeah, how was that? It was a
- 20:49Speaker 1: little like Bizarro mask because you're right, like it's such
- 20:52Speaker 1: a through line the Bob Seeger stuff, And then having
- 20:56Speaker 1: seen the Seeger version fifteen times, A knew that the
- 21:00Speaker 1: Springsteen version was out there, so it was a little
- 21:03Speaker 1: strange hearing like thunder Road and Born to Run, And
- 21:06Speaker 1: I'd feel so curious to see that version because I
- 21:09Speaker 1: feel like Bob Seeger represents way more of that world,
- 21:14Speaker 1: like biker Yeah, that biker world than Bruce Springstein. Does
- 21:19Speaker 1: you know Bob Segers is on the nose? Yeah? Yeah,
- 21:23Speaker 1: and the Catman do song, especially because you know, one
- 21:26Speaker 1: of the big subplots of the movie was his europe
- 21:29Speaker 1: trip that he was going to take with his friend. Yeah,
- 21:31Speaker 1: I mean so so great. Yeah, alright, so Seeger, you're
- 21:36Speaker 1: in the Seeger camp. I love Bob Seger. You're a fan.
- 21:40Speaker 1: Uh well, we actually had a thing on stuff. You
- 21:42Speaker 1: should know where I complained about Bob Seeger. Um. I
- 21:45Speaker 1: think I was complaining about a specific song, Turn the Page,
- 21:50Speaker 1: you know the song. Of course. I'm a Seeger fan anytime,
- 21:53Speaker 1: so I can to tell you. And I think I
- 21:56Speaker 1: made it. I think it may have just been so
- 21:58Speaker 1: I can make the joke that should have been called
- 22:00Speaker 1: turned the Station, um, because I always thought that was
- 22:03Speaker 1: kind of a funny joke. And then, um, we heard
- 22:06Speaker 1: a lot from a lot of people to your loyalists.
- 22:08Speaker 1: That kind of gave me ship for that. And then Metallica.
- 22:11Speaker 1: Do you hear their remake of Turned the Page? Oh? No,
- 22:13Speaker 1: I don't think so. It's great. It's just a heavy,
- 22:16Speaker 1: slow version. Yeah, it's good. It's I'm not typically a
- 22:20Speaker 1: fan of remakes of anything. I'm always like, I think
- 22:23Speaker 1: they had it handled, guys, relax, But I feel like
- 22:29Speaker 1: Metallica did a really great Metallica version of Turn the Page. Wow,
- 22:34Speaker 1: I'm gonna have to hear that. Yeah. Well it's sort
- 22:36Speaker 1: of the ultimate Grizzly road song, you know, as a
- 22:39Speaker 1: touring artist, and I do feel like when I hear
- 22:42Speaker 1: that song, I'm just like, that's me turning the page. Well, well,
- 22:48Speaker 1: you're definitely gonna have to check out the Springsteen version.
- 22:50Speaker 1: I think you can get it on DVD unless you
- 22:52Speaker 1: want to watch the weird um third screen YouTube starburst version.
- 22:57Speaker 1: Um no, thank you. Um. But as far as the
- 23:01Speaker 1: bikers go, UM, I don't know like what kind of
- 23:05Speaker 1: growing up uh you did in Houston, But I was
- 23:09Speaker 1: a very um, sort of sheltered Southern Baptist boy before
- 23:13Speaker 1: I came to my senses later on in life, and um,
- 23:17Speaker 1: the notion of like a biker gang was very exotic
- 23:21Speaker 1: and scary to me. Um. So to see this movie
- 23:25Speaker 1: where they like, you know, love puppies and did like
- 23:28Speaker 1: blood drives. I don't know if you remember that scene
- 23:30Speaker 1: where they were like had a blood drive at one
- 23:32Speaker 1: of their bike rallies. I don't remember. It's kind of
- 23:35Speaker 1: early on and that's where they had the puppies and
- 23:38Speaker 1: they all you know, cared for Rocky and love one another,
- 23:41Speaker 1: and it was just very kind of mind blowing for
- 23:43Speaker 1: me to see, uh, this other world of like the
- 23:46Speaker 1: bikers that I shouldn't fear them. Well, I think it's
- 23:49Speaker 1: that typical situation, whether it's bikers or punk rockers or
- 23:53Speaker 1: you know, just that whole like we take care of
- 23:55Speaker 1: our own and then they you know, all the little
- 23:59Speaker 1: spikes on the jackets, whether you're a biker a punk rocker,
- 24:03Speaker 1: it's just the you know, stay away from me because
- 24:06Speaker 1: if you get too close. I'm actually really soft and
- 24:09Speaker 1: I love puppies and I love babies, and I'm it's
- 24:13Speaker 1: like they don't trust how sensitive they actually are, so
- 24:17Speaker 1: they have to put the spikes on their coat. Yeah
- 24:19Speaker 1: that makes sense, and they're just like back off, I
- 24:22Speaker 1: cry easily, but they can show that love to each
- 24:25Speaker 1: other though. Yeah, I think when they're within their little
- 24:28Speaker 1: community and there, um they have their little puppies and
- 24:32Speaker 1: babies and well, it seemed unrealistic to me as a kid.
- 24:35Speaker 1: But now that I'm older and I look at that,
- 24:37Speaker 1: I think that's probably You're probably exactly right, yea, and
- 24:39Speaker 1: Bogdanovitch probably nailed the biker scene like more than anyone else. Yeah,
- 24:44Speaker 1: I whenever I see bikers, I'm I'm always just like
- 24:48Speaker 1: I'm that's scary, right, I'm a biker. Yeah. I have
- 24:52Speaker 1: two motorcycles, and uh well I started writing motorcycles. Well,
- 24:58Speaker 1: I mean, how long do we have? I mean, the
- 25:00Speaker 1: story triggers another. But I always wanted to ride motorcycles.
- 25:05Speaker 1: And I had a friend growing up that invited me
- 25:11Speaker 1: when I was in fourth grade to come over and
- 25:13Speaker 1: ride motorcycles in her pasture. And I was and she said,
- 25:16Speaker 1: do you know how to ride a motorcycle? And I
- 25:17Speaker 1: was like yeah, because I'm like, uh yeah, I know.
- 25:23Speaker 1: And so I went over to her house and we're
- 25:28Speaker 1: going to ride motorcycles. And it was just a mini bike.
- 25:32Speaker 1: You know what a mini bike is. It's just you
- 25:34Speaker 1: don't have to like switch gears. It's just gas and
- 25:37Speaker 1: break and motorcycles. Yeah, but they're just like little little things.
- 25:42Speaker 1: And and so I got on her mini bike and
- 25:47Speaker 1: I just I was like what And I mean no
- 25:52Speaker 1: control of the bike. I just went shooting off through
- 25:55Speaker 1: the pasture over like a bump and then they had
- 25:57Speaker 1: like a hole in the and then I slammed into
- 26:02Speaker 1: the fence and fell over and I had hurt my hand,
- 26:09Speaker 1: and I just wanted my mommy, you know. And I
- 26:12Speaker 1: had gone from just feeling soak, like yeah, I know
- 26:15Speaker 1: how to ride a motorcycle because I truly just thought
- 26:18Speaker 1: it was just doing from room in their hands. And
- 26:21Speaker 1: you've probably ridden bicycles well, And I've been watching the
- 26:24Speaker 1: Funds and I've been watching Evil Kinnevil, who I was
- 26:29Speaker 1: obsessed with. And I had all those like wind up
- 26:33Speaker 1: and my mother stopped buying them for us because the
- 26:36Speaker 1: Evil Knevil doll ended up twice on our heaters that
- 26:41Speaker 1: were on the floor and melted. Um. But anyway, when
- 26:47Speaker 1: I was seventeen, I was going to play pool at
- 26:51Speaker 1: this pool hall my friend, and there's this motorcycle shop
- 26:54Speaker 1: next to the pool hall. And I had already dropped
- 26:57Speaker 1: out of high school and had a job, and um,
- 27:01Speaker 1: and I had saved all this money, and I was like,
- 27:05Speaker 1: should I buy that motorcycle? And my friend I still
- 27:08Speaker 1: didn't know how to ride one, and she was like, yeah,
- 27:11Speaker 1: you have to. So we went back the next day
- 27:14Speaker 1: and I bought the motorcycle. And when my friend and
- 27:18Speaker 1: I went into the shop, this was our plan. We
- 27:24Speaker 1: were pretending like I had broken my foot so I
- 27:27Speaker 1: can't ride, so could he teach my friend how to
- 27:30Speaker 1: ride a motorcycle? We weren't gonna Yeah, so yeah I
- 27:36Speaker 1: had That was my first acting job, so um uh yeah,
- 27:40Speaker 1: I was like, yeah, my foot's broken, can you just
- 27:42Speaker 1: show her how? So he did and we learned, and um,
- 27:46Speaker 1: we didn't even have motorcycle helmets. We had brought along
- 27:50Speaker 1: a go kart helmet and a plastic football helmet, and
- 27:56Speaker 1: we rode the motorcycle. Yeah, like a Houston Oilers or something. Yes,
- 28:02Speaker 1: and um, we just were so amused by it was
- 28:05Speaker 1: her little brother's plastic football helmet and um and then
- 28:10Speaker 1: I ended up selling that And then they sold you
- 28:12Speaker 1: a bike with but to some to a young seventeen
- 28:16Speaker 1: year old lady limping with the plastic football helmet. Yeah,
- 28:19Speaker 1: well they didn't see the helmets that was something we
- 28:21Speaker 1: took out of the car. Yeah, yeah, I wore the
- 28:25Speaker 1: We didn't want to be pulled over by the copts,
- 28:28Speaker 1: of course, so you know, you grab your football helmet
- 28:31Speaker 1: and uh, nothing to see here, officer. And so I
- 28:36Speaker 1: ended up selling that motorcycle. I had that from when
- 28:39Speaker 1: I was seventeen until I was probably twenty three. Wow,
- 28:47Speaker 1: is that your primary mode? Um? No, I had a
- 28:50Speaker 1: car as well. Um, And then I bought years later,
- 28:56Speaker 1: I bought a couple of vintage motorcycles that I still have.
- 29:01Speaker 1: But Stephanie no longer will allow such a thing. Like
- 29:08Speaker 1: a lot of people go through that thing, especially if
- 29:10Speaker 1: you grew up loving evil kin evil and the funds
- 29:13Speaker 1: to where at one point I thought about it like,
- 29:15Speaker 1: oh man, I know they're dangerous, but they're just so cool. Yeah,
- 29:19Speaker 1: and I got married. My wife was like, no, go
- 29:22Speaker 1: ahead and get that thought out of your head. So
- 29:24Speaker 1: did you own Did I think I kind of thought
- 29:28Speaker 1: about it here and there over the years. Well, yeah,
- 29:31Speaker 1: Stephanie said, probably before we were together, she would have
- 29:36Speaker 1: thought it was fun and cool whatever. But she saw
- 29:40Speaker 1: somebody die on our cycle and she said, it just
- 29:45Speaker 1: there's no way. If it was before she saw that right,
- 29:49Speaker 1: but then after she was like, it's me or the motorcycle.
- 29:52Speaker 1: So these theories still out. They collect dust in your garage,
- 29:55Speaker 1: they do, Okay, they do. I think I'm gonna get
- 29:57Speaker 1: rid of one of them. Yeah, one of their it's
- 30:00Speaker 1: one of them's gold and one of them is teal colored.
- 30:03Speaker 1: Their Honda CB three fifties and really cool ones on
- 30:10Speaker 1: a seventy. The gold one, uh is named Goldie Honda,
- 30:15Speaker 1: and the teal one is, um, what's her? What's her? Russell?
- 30:22Speaker 1: Kurt Russell? Okay, I thought it was gonna have something
- 30:24Speaker 1: to do with teal No, I know that's the setup,
- 30:27Speaker 1: and then you fooled you. Goldie Honda and Kurt Russell
- 30:33Speaker 1: sit in my Who am I going to? I mean
- 30:36Speaker 1: you love them both? Oh? I know for sure? Sell? Um,
- 30:41Speaker 1: Kurt Russell, Yeah yeah, Goldie Honda stays yeah. Goldie Honda
- 30:45Speaker 1: was the first, and I had that motorcycle. I did
- 30:49Speaker 1: like ten episodes or so of Sarah Silverman's first TV show,
- 30:54Speaker 1: and um, I had that motorcycle in that show. And
- 30:57Speaker 1: so there's kind of an attach, right, what if your
- 31:00Speaker 1: sons grew up and they're like, why don't you have
- 31:02Speaker 1: two motorcycles for it. My good friend Rick Is he
- 31:07Speaker 1: collects motorcycles and he races motorcycles and behind Stephanie's back
- 31:11Speaker 1: to the babies, he's always like motorcycles. You guys, get
- 31:16Speaker 1: him a sidecar. Those kind of cool. Um, that was
- 31:20Speaker 1: a great story, thank you. Uh so the bikers. Well,
- 31:26Speaker 1: first of all, we need to talk about Share in
- 31:28Speaker 1: that movie. Yes we do, because, um, I don't know
- 31:31Speaker 1: anything about shares process in her career, and I may
- 31:36Speaker 1: be wrong, but I've always had the feeling that she
- 31:39Speaker 1: can kind of be in anything if she wants to be,
- 31:43Speaker 1: or at least put herself out there to just act
- 31:47Speaker 1: all the time. But she's only done yeah, like five movies. Yeah.
- 31:51Speaker 1: I feel like she's could do whatever she wanted to,
- 31:54Speaker 1: but it's perfect purposely just sort of been super selective. Yeah.
- 31:58Speaker 1: I mean you hear about people be being selective, Yeah,
- 32:01Speaker 1: but she really really selective. She's just like, seriously, only
- 32:06Speaker 1: the greatest movies ever, That's all I'm doing. Yeah, I mean,
- 32:09Speaker 1: which is Eastwick, Mask, moon Struck, of course, the Sunny
- 32:13Speaker 1: and Share Show. That's a great movie. Um, but I
- 32:18Speaker 1: know that Mask was I think she had us while
- 32:21Speaker 1: she was in silk Wood. Uh, and had a small
- 32:24Speaker 1: part in silk Wood before this, but this was her
- 32:27Speaker 1: first big starring role. And um, and everything that she's in,
- 32:32Speaker 1: she's just so good and like real and authentic and um,
- 32:38Speaker 1: I like, I've always wanted more Share in my life. Yeah,
- 32:41Speaker 1: like movie life. Um, but you know, Share is gonna
- 32:45Speaker 1: do what Share wants to do. We can't boss this
- 32:48Speaker 1: woman around. No, And apparently Peter Bogdanovitch couldn't either because
- 32:53Speaker 1: apparently they um there was some friction because she was
- 32:57Speaker 1: sort of new and she wanted her boyfriend played Gar,
- 33:01Speaker 1: who was Val Kilmer at the time. So like, after
- 33:05Speaker 1: you see Sam Elliott, I mean he is Gar. I'm
- 33:08Speaker 1: surprised that's not his name. Uh, like you because remember
- 33:11Speaker 1: what Valkimer looked like in eighty five. There's no way
- 33:14Speaker 1: he could have pulled that part on Gosh that Gar? Yeah,
- 33:21Speaker 1: I mean I know. Do you love that movie? Yeah?
- 33:25Speaker 1: I did you just go? Yeah? You know I like it? No? No, no,
- 33:28Speaker 1: I love it. Um. And seeing it today it kind
- 33:31Speaker 1: of brought back a lot of did it hold up? Yeah?
- 33:33Speaker 1: I haven't seen it in a handful of years. It
- 33:35Speaker 1: does hold up? It? Um, I think it avoids that
- 33:38Speaker 1: like movie of the week thing that it easily could
- 33:40Speaker 1: have been because Bogdanovitch was a director and like a
- 33:43Speaker 1: really like masterful director and the casting you know. Um, Like,
- 33:48Speaker 1: my mom has been in love with Sam Elliott since
- 33:51Speaker 1: she was from that generation of uh, mustachioed hunks of
- 33:55Speaker 1: the seventies. We're kind of right up her alley. She
- 33:58Speaker 1: like Tom Seller, she loved Tom Selleck and Burt Reynolds. Uh.
- 34:03Speaker 1: In fact, Smoking the Bandit filmed um in Atlanta and
- 34:08Speaker 1: shot some scenes across from my elementary school in our
- 34:11Speaker 1: station wagon is in one of the scenes. And how
- 34:15Speaker 1: did you wait so long to bring this up? Well,
- 34:18Speaker 1: this gets even better, she um. For probably twelve years
- 34:22Speaker 1: after that movie, in our garage we had the sheriff
- 34:27Speaker 1: Jackie Gleeson's card door in our garage. It was knocked
- 34:30Speaker 1: off of the car in a scene in the movie,
- 34:32Speaker 1: and somehow my dad got it and we had it
- 34:37Speaker 1: in my garage and for years until my mom was like,
- 34:40Speaker 1: get rid of that thing, get rid of that piece
- 34:42Speaker 1: of movie history. But anyway, long story short, she drugged
- 34:47Speaker 1: me down one day to meet Burt Reynolds. He did
- 34:49Speaker 1: like an autograph day and It's one of those things.
- 34:52Speaker 1: You know. I'm like, I don't know, nine or two
- 34:53Speaker 1: years old, in line for hours and hours to meet
- 34:56Speaker 1: Burt Reynolds, uh and have him like smack is scumming
- 35:00Speaker 1: my face, hit me on the chin and sign a
- 35:02Speaker 1: thing for my mom. You know what movie history I have,
- 35:06Speaker 1: um that I didn't realize was movie history at the time.
- 35:10Speaker 1: I used to work for Sam Raymie, and yeah, I
- 35:15Speaker 1: was an assistant and I mean not his personal assistant,
- 35:20Speaker 1: and I was just an assistant for the company. You
- 35:22Speaker 1: hear that, Thomas and so um. Yeah, I remind Thomas
- 35:29Speaker 1: near daily about assisting Sam Raymie and let me tell
- 35:32Speaker 1: you how it's done. But when I was I think
- 35:41Speaker 1: the company was moving out of a building or I was.
- 35:43Speaker 1: I can't remember how I acquired Sam Raimi's old um
- 35:50Speaker 1: file cabinet, but I acquired I started working for Sam
- 35:54Speaker 1: Raimi when he was finishing up A simple Plan Great
- 36:00Speaker 1: Man and moving on to he was in he was
- 36:04Speaker 1: finishing that, and then he was in pre production on
- 36:06Speaker 1: his big, first big movie, which was Spider Man No
- 36:11Speaker 1: No Um for Love of the Game with Kevin Costner.
- 36:16Speaker 1: So everybody, Yeah, there's one moment where Kevin Costner's hand
- 36:20Speaker 1: is bleeding, um and there's like a shot that everyone's like, oh,
- 36:24Speaker 1: there's Sam. But um. So I have this um file cabinet,
- 36:32Speaker 1: and I remember when I brought it home, I was
- 36:34Speaker 1: like peeling all the labels off that said like dark
- 36:37Speaker 1: Man and Evil Dead one and Evil Dead too, and
- 36:40Speaker 1: did you have it just so you could use it? Yeah?
- 36:43Speaker 1: I wasn't even like thinking, this is Sam Raimi's file cabinet,
- 36:47Speaker 1: like historic little stickers and um, and I couldn't fully
- 36:53Speaker 1: get the stickers off, and I just bailed halfway and
- 36:56Speaker 1: just wrote like comedy on one and like it just
- 37:00Speaker 1: all these stupid labels that have to do with me.
- 37:03Speaker 1: But then years later, um, you know, after he went
- 37:08Speaker 1: from just cult iconic director to just like one of
- 37:13Speaker 1: the biggest A list directors you can find, I looked
- 37:17Speaker 1: at the file cabinet and I was like, thank god,
- 37:20Speaker 1: I was unable to fully scrape off Evil Dead and
- 37:24Speaker 1: dark Man and all these labels, even though my stupid
- 37:28Speaker 1: like comedy label is written on there too. That's pretty funny.
- 37:32Speaker 1: It's a funny merging my stuff and Sam Raimi's file cabinet.
- 37:37Speaker 1: But I have that like Johnny Ron's base case and
- 37:40Speaker 1: I had a bunch of stickers. I couldn't get them off.
- 37:42Speaker 1: It's fine. I used it as a planter. So did
- 37:47Speaker 1: you do you still have that? Oh? Cool and use it?
- 37:51Speaker 1: I do? And now you tell everyone right over it
- 37:54Speaker 1: actually hasn't. It's in my garage. So I was forget
- 37:57Speaker 1: with Goldie and Curt. It's real. It's a really I
- 38:00Speaker 1: need to get share to come over and hang out
- 38:02Speaker 1: in the garage. Uh do the same, RAMI do you
- 38:05Speaker 1: know him now? Like does he know who you are
- 38:07Speaker 1: and that you worked for him? Or uh? Yeah? He Um.
- 38:11Speaker 1: He made a couple of short films and he paid
- 38:15Speaker 1: for both of them. One is called Clown Service. Yeah, yeah,
- 38:18Speaker 1: I saw that he paid for that. He did well
- 38:21Speaker 1: a portion of it. Um. And my first short film
- 38:25Speaker 1: called Poop Dreams colon a series of stained short I'm
- 38:32Speaker 1: certain you haven't. It's not anywhere to be found. You've
- 38:35Speaker 1: never heard of this, Thomas. Okay, Sam not only paid
- 38:38Speaker 1: for it, but he's in it. Yeah and um and
- 38:43Speaker 1: then yeah, he gave a chunk of money to Clown Service. Yeah,
- 38:47Speaker 1: because that Clown Service kind of help put you on
- 38:49Speaker 1: the map, didn't it? Or did it no, okay, no,
- 38:54Speaker 1: it only came out a couple of years ago. I
- 38:57Speaker 1: wrote it twenty years ago, and then I started a
- 39:01Speaker 1: Kickstarter fund to raise money for it five years ago,
- 39:06Speaker 1: and then I had a few bumps in the road
- 39:08Speaker 1: in life, installed the production, and then I made it
- 39:13Speaker 1: two years ago. I know what I'm thinking of now
- 39:16Speaker 1: that I read about it recently because of a controversy. Yes, yes,
- 39:20Speaker 1: that's why there is a controversy around it. Yeah, you
- 39:23Speaker 1: get ripped off controversy. I just know that I wrote
- 39:34Speaker 1: it twenty years ago. I made it two years ago,
- 39:36Speaker 1: and it's based on true events from my life, so
- 39:41Speaker 1: it might have put me on the map to some
- 39:42Speaker 1: people who had never heard of me. I know. The
- 39:45Speaker 1: first time I saw you was the Conan O'Brien appearance
- 39:48Speaker 1: where you where you shoved the stool around. Um. I
- 39:51Speaker 1: was just like, who is this? That is the best
- 39:54Speaker 1: thing I've seen and m and uh. Paul Thompkins was
- 39:59Speaker 1: the guest that might Yeah, so I'm a fan and
- 40:01Speaker 1: sort of friend of his now and that was why
- 40:03Speaker 1: I was watching that night. I was to watch Paul
- 40:06Speaker 1: and then you came on and did that and I
- 40:07Speaker 1: was like, Wow, this is awesome. This is funny because
- 40:10Speaker 1: when I when I pitched that idea to the booking
- 40:13Speaker 1: agent producer, they were like, I said, so I just
- 40:16Speaker 1: want to you know, push a stool around and he
- 40:21Speaker 1: was like, well, um, I trust you, but I did
- 40:26Speaker 1: you know, I think I need to see it. And
- 40:28Speaker 1: I was like, yeah, it just makes no you really
- 40:30Speaker 1: need to hear. It makes these squeaky noises. It makes
- 40:35Speaker 1: people laugh and then it makes them not laugh, and
- 40:37Speaker 1: then they laugh and then they don't. And he was
- 40:40Speaker 1: just like, let me, let me just come see this,
- 40:43Speaker 1: and um, I was like yeah, sure. And so he
- 40:45Speaker 1: came and saw me do it live and he was like,
- 40:47Speaker 1: oh my gosh, So that was part of your act
- 40:49Speaker 1: for a while. Uh, for a little bit. Yeah, and
- 40:52Speaker 1: um and then when I did it, I when I
- 40:55Speaker 1: was doing it on Conan, I couldn't get the stool
- 40:59Speaker 1: to make the noise is it was supposed to make.
- 41:02Speaker 1: So I just went on a leap of faith literally
- 41:06Speaker 1: and leapt up closer to where because there was a
- 41:11Speaker 1: plexiglass underneath the plexiglass floor or these lights that come up,
- 41:18Speaker 1: and so I went over and I was, you know,
- 41:21Speaker 1: running running it across the plexiglass and it was just
- 41:24Speaker 1: making the sweet sweet. Well, yeah, I think I'd probably
- 41:31Speaker 1: told you, yeah, you probably heard it directly from me. Um,
- 41:35Speaker 1: but yeah, I I scratched the floor. No, the scratch
- 41:38Speaker 1: isn't still there. They had to have it buffed out.
- 41:42Speaker 1: But what is still there is the sound of the
- 41:45Speaker 1: stool and the one of the sound guys, I guess
- 41:49Speaker 1: to annoy ConA will play it every now and then.
- 41:54Speaker 1: That's great. Yeah, I think, well it was kind of
- 41:57Speaker 1: great that you went up to that second level because
- 41:58Speaker 1: then you had Andy and and p F. T. Conan
- 42:02Speaker 1: like just dying in the background, so that really added
- 42:05Speaker 1: to it. It was really fun. So that was my
- 42:06Speaker 1: introduce introduction to you. But but you can watch Clown
- 42:10Speaker 1: Service on Vimeo. Now, okay, well that should settle any
- 42:16Speaker 1: controversial Um. Two years ago, I do feel like I
- 42:19Speaker 1: have I need to mention that we were talking about
- 42:22Speaker 1: how great, uh well, how great Gar was, Yeah, and
- 42:26Speaker 1: Sam Elliott, but that was the only thing in that
- 42:28Speaker 1: movie that kind of took me out of it was. Um,
- 42:30Speaker 1: I don't know if you remember, there's the one scene
- 42:32Speaker 1: at a party, one of the many biker parties, where
- 42:35Speaker 1: he has a mustache, rides shirt on. I don't. Yeah,
- 42:40Speaker 1: I didn't. I don't think I probably knew what that
- 42:41Speaker 1: meant when I was fourteen, and then I saw it
- 42:44Speaker 1: today and I was like, oh, man, like car, it
- 42:46Speaker 1: is way too cool to wear a shirt like that.
- 42:48Speaker 1: It's like somebody walking around with a hey Man or whatever.
- 42:52Speaker 1: Bart Simpson, Yeah, you know, or I don't have a
- 42:55Speaker 1: cow Yeah, just like, hey, what are you doing. I
- 42:59Speaker 1: remember a friend of my and was on a date
- 43:00Speaker 1: and she ran off to the bathroom and called me
- 43:02Speaker 1: and she was like, I'm out with this guy and
- 43:04Speaker 1: he's wearing Uh, what was that movie the guy that
- 43:08Speaker 1: that was filmed I think in Salt Lake City with
- 43:11Speaker 1: the kind of nerdy guy. No Thomas said, Wayne's World.
- 43:16Speaker 1: By the way, Napoleon Dynamite. I guess he had some
- 43:19Speaker 1: Napoleon Dynamite shirt on that thing. Yeah. And my friend
- 43:23Speaker 1: was like, am I crazy? But this is such a
- 43:26Speaker 1: turn off and I was like, no, it's it's telling
- 43:28Speaker 1: of something that's absolutely Yeah, if you choose to wear
- 43:32Speaker 1: like it was probably a vote for Pedro. Yes, it
- 43:35Speaker 1: was for Pedro. On the first day, first day, you're
- 43:38Speaker 1: screaming yeah, because you pick out your clothes for a
- 43:41Speaker 1: first day, and you think about it deliberate and you
- 43:43Speaker 1: might try a few things on even I'd like to
- 43:45Speaker 1: see the rejected outfit exactly. Let's see what t shirts
- 43:49Speaker 1: he did not wear. Can I tell you my favorite
- 43:51Speaker 1: Gar moment? Yeah, and it's actually my favorite. It's my favorite. Oh,
- 43:56Speaker 1: oh my gosh. Right when I started to say it's
- 43:58Speaker 1: my favorite moment from the movie, then my brain jumps
- 44:01Speaker 1: to other unbelievable performances by Share but Share and Gar together. Um,
- 44:10Speaker 1: I guess that's not her movie name, but anyway, it's When, Um,
- 44:16Speaker 1: what's her name? Yeah, it's When, Um, And what's her
- 44:20Speaker 1: son's name? Again? Bad with names? But I love the
- 44:23Speaker 1: movie Rocky Rocky. Rocky has gone off to camp and
- 44:27Speaker 1: Rusty is so devastated him and then she's trying to
- 44:33Speaker 1: write a letter. And that is a scene that when
- 44:36Speaker 1: I would try to describe it to somebody, I would
- 44:39Speaker 1: a lot of times start crying. Um, it's so raw
- 44:45Speaker 1: her love for this child. And when Gar comes in,
- 44:50Speaker 1: any starts to try and right what she's saying, and
- 44:56Speaker 1: then he just stops and looks at her and oh man,
- 45:00Speaker 1: and are you kidding me? Yeah? I mean, just kill me. Now.
- 45:03Speaker 1: Another few of those scenes are when Rocky confronts her
- 45:06Speaker 1: about her drug use and she rips up one of
- 45:09Speaker 1: his baseball cards and he goes into his room and
- 45:13Speaker 1: like it brings on one of his headaches brought on
- 45:16Speaker 1: by his bone disorder. And then she goes in there
- 45:20Speaker 1: because you know, it's one of those parents kids, the
- 45:22Speaker 1: parent of the parent kind of situations, and algy he
- 45:27Speaker 1: cares about is for her just to not do drugs,
- 45:30Speaker 1: you know. And then she goes in there and does
- 45:32Speaker 1: her her thing where she talks to him, uh, to
- 45:37Speaker 1: get his headaches to go away, because they go to
- 45:39Speaker 1: the doctor and they're like, what do you do and
- 45:40Speaker 1: they're like, she she talks to me and they go away.
- 45:43Speaker 1: And the doctors are very incredulous about the whole thing,
- 45:45Speaker 1: of course because it's an eighties movie, but that scene
- 45:48Speaker 1: just devastates me. Are still in gradulous, Yeah, you've got
- 45:53Speaker 1: a little experience there. Um. And then the scene where
- 45:58Speaker 1: does are the big tough biker with the stutter after
- 46:01Speaker 1: graduation tells him that he's proud of him, and that's
- 46:04Speaker 1: the only thing he says in the whole movie. I
- 46:07Speaker 1: was crying in my room today. It's like in there
- 46:09Speaker 1: with the blind strawn crying. Were those were those all
- 46:14Speaker 1: the ones that destroyed you? Because I mean there's a
- 46:17Speaker 1: major one, just like come on, yeah, no, that's not it. Um,
- 46:25Speaker 1: well we may as well. I was thinking you might
- 46:27Speaker 1: be a tough little cookie. If that's all that destroyed you,
- 46:30Speaker 1: well we should go to Laura Dern. And then Rocky
- 46:34Speaker 1: goes to camp for the blind. And um, first of all,
- 46:39Speaker 1: that's where like I developed a lifelong crush on Laura Dern.
- 46:42Speaker 1: I think everybody says that, Yeah, yeah, that movie kind
- 46:45Speaker 1: of did it for me, and I still just adore her.
- 46:48Speaker 1: But um, when he well, first when she feels his
- 46:53Speaker 1: face and you know, he tells her like he's not handsome.
- 46:57Speaker 1: Then he has this thing and she feels his face
- 46:59Speaker 1: and says, you pretty good to me. That gets me, yeah,
- 47:02Speaker 1: of course. And then when he uh and just look
- 47:06Speaker 1: on her face, sweetness and openness. She already knows she
- 47:12Speaker 1: loves this guy, you know, and of course his face
- 47:16Speaker 1: is everything's going to feel and it seemed perfect to her.
- 47:20Speaker 1: It's just so sweet. Uh. And then when she teaches
- 47:24Speaker 1: her the colors with the hot rocks and the cool things, Yeah,
- 47:28Speaker 1: and like she gets it, she gets, Yeah, it's just
- 47:31Speaker 1: disrects me. Yeah, but uh yeah, I mean we should
- 47:38Speaker 1: talk about his death. Yeah, it's devastating, devastating. I was
- 47:44Speaker 1: weeping this morning. I'm a big sap and a big
- 47:48Speaker 1: sucker I got. I don't know when I got so emotional,
- 47:50Speaker 1: But um, I have no qualms about breaking down and crying. Yeah,
- 47:55Speaker 1: the spirit moves me. I don't think we caught my
- 47:58Speaker 1: boohoo session on audio today, obviously, I will. You should
- 48:05Speaker 1: watch Mask tonight if you need a good cry. I don't.
- 48:09Speaker 1: I'm foo hooed out today. Well, so, as you probably
- 48:12Speaker 1: remember in the movie, she um the night before they're
- 48:17Speaker 1: having another big biker party and he says that his
- 48:19Speaker 1: headache is kind of bad, so he goes in. She
- 48:22Speaker 1: goes to bed, and then she gets the call in
- 48:23Speaker 1: the morning that he's not at school, and she fucking
- 48:27Speaker 1: knows right then, there's no way Rocky wouldn't be in
- 48:30Speaker 1: school because he like swept the academic awards. And uh
- 48:35Speaker 1: goes in the room and he's there, and she knows
- 48:38Speaker 1: he's gone, but she's she's pulling the blinds up and
- 48:43Speaker 1: talking to him like, you know, oh my god, it's
- 48:49Speaker 1: just devastating too much, it is, and um, she keeps
- 48:55Speaker 1: talking to him and then you know, it goes and
- 48:57Speaker 1: kind of destroys her kitchen briefly, and it's just so
- 49:01Speaker 1: painful because he's this this one bit of light she
- 49:06Speaker 1: has in her life. You know, very hard to sit
- 49:10Speaker 1: through that scene. And I remember being thirteen or fourteen
- 49:12Speaker 1: and just like it wrecked me. Then, yeah, you know,
- 49:15Speaker 1: it's a sense of Baptist boy. But yeah, I uh,
- 49:21Speaker 1: I don't know if that movie is what started things
- 49:23Speaker 1: off for me, but I'm I love movies that just
- 49:28Speaker 1: destroy me. I do too. I don't know what it is.
- 49:32Speaker 1: I mean, yeah, but that was Catharsis in a way too,
- 49:39Speaker 1: I think for me it is. Yeah, probably so just
- 49:42Speaker 1: to like be affected so deeply about something you're seeing.
- 49:47Speaker 1: I'm not that way with music too, Like any piece
- 49:49Speaker 1: of art now can move me to tears, and like
- 49:52Speaker 1: a second, it's that I feel like that might be
- 49:57Speaker 1: that that first dramatic film, and then it just became
- 50:02Speaker 1: you know, I actually don't follow too like comedic movies
- 50:08Speaker 1: or things like that. It's just more like York and
- 50:12Speaker 1: Dancer in the Dark. Yeah, I'm there. Oh my god,
- 50:15Speaker 1: talk about a heavy movie, Please don't cry. Oh jeez. Yeah.
- 50:19Speaker 1: But then my favorite thing to do when I leave
- 50:22Speaker 1: the movie theater after movies like that, as I'm going
- 50:24Speaker 1: down the escalator with other people that clearly just saw
- 50:27Speaker 1: that movie, I'm just like, I didn't think it was
- 50:30Speaker 1: that funny, you know, or what part? What did you
- 50:34Speaker 1: think was the funniest part? And people are just like, yeah, Um,
- 50:42Speaker 1: it's always so weird in l A too, because I
- 50:44Speaker 1: lived there for like five years, and um, when you
- 50:47Speaker 1: hold up in a dark theater, and especially a heavy
- 50:49Speaker 1: movie like that, and then you come out and it's
- 50:51Speaker 1: always just like you're at the fucking grove or something
- 50:55Speaker 1: so alarming trolley goes by it is it's alarming, like
- 50:58Speaker 1: a trolley full of touria. Um, it's very disconcerting to me.
- 51:03Speaker 1: I remember I left a movie at the Beverly Center
- 51:06Speaker 1: one time. I can't remember which one it was. You know,
- 51:09Speaker 1: they have like a series of escalators going down there,
- 51:12Speaker 1: and uh, this is inconsequential. But I looked out to
- 51:16Speaker 1: the side and there was something going on a parking
- 51:18Speaker 1: lot across the street, and I went down. It's like,
- 51:20Speaker 1: what's going on over there? And so I said, oh,
- 51:21Speaker 1: the Go Goes are about to play. It's free. It's like,
- 51:24Speaker 1: are you shipping me? So me and my friend like
- 51:27Speaker 1: went from this downer movie and we literally walked straight
- 51:29Speaker 1: off as the Go Goes stage. It was a little
- 51:32Speaker 1: shorty promotional thing that they did like their eight greatest
- 51:35Speaker 1: hits and banged it out like yeah and like forty
- 51:39Speaker 1: minutes and it was. It was one of those l
- 51:41Speaker 1: A things like did this just happen? This is like
- 51:43Speaker 1: the best day ever. Oh my gosh, the Go Goes
- 51:45Speaker 1: are so great. Uh So I'm here, but I have
- 51:50Speaker 1: plenty to say about that. Boy. Yeah, well, I mean
- 51:54Speaker 1: you're my age. That was that was our wheelhouse. Yeah,
- 51:57Speaker 1: I mean we talked about this march because I don't
- 52:03Speaker 1: I think I'm aries Stephanie follows all that. I think
- 52:07Speaker 1: it's I'm like pisces cuss or something, But I truly
- 52:10Speaker 1: don't know what I'm talking about. And hilariously enough, I
- 52:14Speaker 1: don't know what her sign is, and she is astounded
- 52:19Speaker 1: every time she finds us out because she talks about
- 52:22Speaker 1: her sign all the time, and I never I can't
- 52:27Speaker 1: I can't clock that, I can't quite register. It's not
- 52:30Speaker 1: anything like that that I follow so you can put
- 52:33Speaker 1: a gun in my head and I cannot tell you
- 52:35Speaker 1: what Stephanie's sins. Well, we did a stuff you should
- 52:38Speaker 1: Know episode about astrology about how it was just bullshit.
- 52:40Speaker 1: So don't feel bad. I know. I used to with
- 52:43Speaker 1: the next girlfriend of mine. Uh, when we have an argument,
- 52:46Speaker 1: she likes because you're an aries and everything I did,
- 52:50Speaker 1: I guess it's because you're an aries. And I would
- 52:52Speaker 1: always say, so you're telling me that if I was
- 52:56Speaker 1: born just one day earlier, everything would be your fault,
- 52:59Speaker 1: you know. I mean, it's just I'm baffled by I
- 53:04Speaker 1: don't have information on it, and so I don't want
- 53:07Speaker 1: to completely slam stuff. My wife believes him, but whatever
- 53:15Speaker 1: her sign is really quickly speaking of alternate casting, Um,
- 53:21Speaker 1: Kevin Costner, who you mentioned from Sam Ramy's movie was
- 53:23Speaker 1: almost Rocky Dennis. Do you want some Costner trivia? I'd
- 53:28Speaker 1: love some. Do you know what his production company is called? Boy?
- 53:31Speaker 1: Can I get a guess? Sure? Um, Kicking Bird Productions.
- 53:39Speaker 1: That's Correct Productions. Really? Why is that? Uh? Something about
- 53:46Speaker 1: like his grandmother. I'm not sure, but Kevin Costner was
- 53:50Speaker 1: a star of for Love of the Game. When I
- 53:53Speaker 1: worked for Sam there was a mix up, two couple
- 53:57Speaker 1: of mix ups where cash was livered to me when
- 54:02Speaker 1: I would sit at my office that was clearly supposed
- 54:04Speaker 1: to go to the production or someplace else. I don't know.
- 54:07Speaker 1: I also ended up on a conference call with Kevin
- 54:12Speaker 1: Costner and somebody else and looped in. I'm just wondering
- 54:17Speaker 1: about the cash. Is that how Costner operates? He just
- 54:19Speaker 1: has catched. I think it was just petty cast or something. Yeah,
- 54:22Speaker 1: I thought you met like a briefcase. I ended up
- 54:25Speaker 1: with an envelope of petty cash that clearly had to
- 54:29Speaker 1: do with the production. And then I ended up on
- 54:31Speaker 1: a conference call going hello, Hello, who is that? This
- 54:36Speaker 1: is Tig, and it was Kevin Costner and somebody else
- 54:41Speaker 1: going what do you mean? Yeah? It was a lot
- 54:44Speaker 1: of but it was me just really unaware of what
- 54:48Speaker 1: was happening. And then I was like, I'm an assistant
- 54:51Speaker 1: over at my name is Tig, and you're probably so
- 54:54Speaker 1: afraid to miss any meeting like you felt like, well,
- 54:57Speaker 1: I never needed in a meeting. Well that's why when
- 54:59Speaker 1: you at the conference, they must really need me. Yeah,
- 55:04Speaker 1: I was like a call for me, okay, chime, I'd
- 55:08Speaker 1: like press conference and then all of a sudden, in
- 55:11Speaker 1: on a meeting, when did you hang up from the meeting?
- 55:14Speaker 1: After they were like, okay, well you know, can you
- 55:17Speaker 1: hang up now? We need to have our meeting when
- 55:20Speaker 1: you were politely asked yea, and now could someone actually
- 55:23Speaker 1: connect us to TIG Productions and not this buffoon answering
- 55:27Speaker 1: the phone at the production office? Is your production company,
- 55:31Speaker 1: Kevin Costner Productions? It should be That's a good idea.
- 55:35Speaker 1: Robolo was the other person who almost played Rocky. I
- 55:38Speaker 1: don't have any trivia for you there, No, that seems
- 55:40Speaker 1: like it would have just been weird stunt casting. Like
- 55:43Speaker 1: let's take like the most handsome guy in Hollywood, and
- 55:45Speaker 1: I can't stand stunt casting, saying I pride myself on
- 55:49Speaker 1: with my show, is that we hire who's perfect for
- 55:56Speaker 1: the job. Yeah, and we I personally, I am never
- 56:02Speaker 1: like I want to get a celebrity. I always wanted
- 56:04Speaker 1: to work with this person, and now this is it's
- 56:06Speaker 1: easier to buy into. I think, uh for me as
- 56:09Speaker 1: a viewer, because like when I saw the guy that
- 56:11Speaker 1: played her stepdad, I was like, wait a minute, like
- 56:13Speaker 1: I know that face, like I think he was in Ghostbusters.
- 56:16Speaker 1: We'll See. That's the thing is if somebody's just like
- 56:19Speaker 1: a character actor working actor, I don't care, or if
- 56:22Speaker 1: they've never acted, but I do not want to like
- 56:26Speaker 1: cram a bunch of famous people. That's weird. And they
- 56:30Speaker 1: kind of plays your brother. He's so great, he's so good. Yeah,
- 56:32Speaker 1: it's really so great. Second season. I can't wait. How
- 56:35Speaker 1: many episodes? Six? Again? Okay? Yeah, that's good, A nice
- 56:39Speaker 1: tight like there's no filler episode. No, I feel that
- 56:43Speaker 1: way for sure. It um. I watched it with my
- 56:45Speaker 1: wife well when I came out, but it was I
- 56:49Speaker 1: think people try to do too much these days for
- 56:52Speaker 1: more episodes, like anything over ten, and I'm trying to
- 56:55Speaker 1: do less. Yeah that's good. Yeah, it's a good goal.
- 57:00Speaker 1: All right. Well, let's finish up then with a couple
- 57:02Speaker 1: of quick segments. You've been kind enough with your time.
- 57:07Speaker 1: I want to call what Ebert said, because Roger Ebert's
- 57:11Speaker 1: my favorite movie critic of all times. So I like
- 57:13Speaker 1: to go back and kind of see where he landed
- 57:15Speaker 1: two thumbs up from Thomas. He gave Mask three and
- 57:18Speaker 1: a half stars out of four three and a half.
- 57:21Speaker 1: I wonder what the little half problem was. You know
- 57:24Speaker 1: what John Watson said the same thing when he got
- 57:26Speaker 1: three and a half stars on his movie. He went, yeah,
- 57:28Speaker 1: I wonder why he deducted a half a star. Yeah,
- 57:30Speaker 1: but I mean, really, what was the problem. I don't know.
- 57:32Speaker 1: I guess you just didn't think it was a perfect movie.
- 57:35Speaker 1: I'm I disagree. Well, here's this quote. Movies don't often
- 57:40Speaker 1: grab us as quickly as Mask does. The story of
- 57:43Speaker 1: Rocky and Rusty is absorbing from the very first maybe
- 57:46Speaker 1: because the movie doesn't waste a lot of time wringing
- 57:48Speaker 1: its hands over Rocky's fate. Mask lands on its feet
- 57:51Speaker 1: running mm hmm, not bad. And then five questions and
- 57:57Speaker 1: these can be short answers. I kind of I don't
- 58:00Speaker 1: even know if I have been named for this yet,
- 58:02Speaker 1: sort of like movie going one on one with with
- 58:05Speaker 1: Tig and you'll call that segment movie going one on
- 58:08Speaker 1: one with Tig. Every other Um, what was the first
- 58:13Speaker 1: movie remember seeing in the movie theater? I think it
- 58:19Speaker 1: was Star Wars. That's good. I mean we were sick,
- 58:22Speaker 1: so we were march. Um first R rated movie that
- 58:30Speaker 1: you remember seeing in theater or in VHS or whatever.
- 58:34Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I couldn't go near that one. I was.
- 58:37Speaker 1: That was so for boating in my life, I would have. Really,
- 58:40Speaker 1: I don't think anybody was saying, sure, go ahead and
- 58:43Speaker 1: watch it. I think, um, you know, there was just
- 58:47Speaker 1: other activities going on at my house that we're more
- 58:50Speaker 1: interesting to my mother than monitoring what I was watching
- 58:55Speaker 1: up here, watching Parks such a dumb movie, now that
- 58:59Speaker 1: what we look back, you know, didn't you know it
- 59:01Speaker 1: was a dumb movie when you were watching? No, because
- 59:04Speaker 1: I didn't see it until I was much older, because
- 59:05Speaker 1: I just thought it was I thought it was like,
- 59:08Speaker 1: you know, the sexiest movie ever made, because there were
- 59:12Speaker 1: body parts in there that aren't usually shown. And I
- 59:14Speaker 1: literally thought it was like the filthiest movie. Yeah. Like
- 59:17Speaker 1: I have no recollection of the movie. I just know, yeah,
- 59:24Speaker 1: I just I just know I watched it, and I
- 59:29Speaker 1: know it was rated. Are Um, will you walk out
- 59:33Speaker 1: of a bad movie? Do you remember doing? So? I have.
- 59:40Speaker 1: I did walk out of a bad movie? Do you
- 59:42Speaker 1: remember it? I do? Are you willing to go on record?
- 59:45Speaker 1: I am not. Because a friend of mine was in
- 59:47Speaker 1: a and I I was stunned about how bad it was. Okay,
- 59:54Speaker 1: and then I saw a bad movie. I think it
- 59:58Speaker 1: was not true, and I didn't walk out because my
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: friend and I were laughing so hard that it ended
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: up being so fun laughing in the wrong way. What
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: was that one? Can you say that one? It was
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: Calm cong Skull Island? Oh like the recent thing? Yeah, okay,
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: did you see it? It looked I knew better. Why
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: did you go see that? Well? I love I love
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: the original King Kong movie here and so the original
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: meaning Jessica Lang. Yeah, and so when this movie was
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: coming out, I was I just was hopeful, and my
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: hope was completely annihilated. It supposed to be really bad.
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: It was just me and my friend and two other
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: people in the theater, and I don't know what the
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: other people thought of us, but we were laughing so hard. Yeah,
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: it's oh so funny. It's one of the funniest. I
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: can't believe it. Well, that's good that you stuck it out.
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: You didn't walk out. I wanted to, but then I
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: just also wanted to see how much this would escalate.
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: And it's ridiculous, and yeah, how bad it could get.
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: This movie felt like they turned in the first draft.
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: Nobody gave a note. Everyone was just like, all right,
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: all cameras go and do it. Yeah, let's do it.
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: We wrote the movie. Um, can you name a guilty
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: pleasure movie aside from Under the Rainbow? Point? Um? Like,
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: is there one that you go back to a lot
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: that's just kind of ridiculous and dumb? Yeah? I guess
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: some people think it's ridiculous and dumb. And actually, now
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: that I am and fairly educated adult, I can see
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: some flaws in it in uh, in ways that are
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: not socially accepted, Like it's it's not just socially acceptable,
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: but there's horrendous behavior and you're cheering for an abusive person. Um.
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: But Urban Cowboy that is a nearly perfect film as
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: far as I'm concerned. And that's a guilty pleasure because, um,
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: I just I think I relate to it and connect
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: to it because a lot of like living in Texas
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: as a kid, and that was Houston too, Yeah, and
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: living outside of Houston, a lot of these people look
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: very familiar to me, and the urban cowboys that lived
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: in pent house apartments and drove the big trucks and
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: cowboy hats and and you know, my parents were friends
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: with um specifically this couple that we used to go
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: over to their house. I it felt like that it
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: felt like John Travolta and that new girl he started
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: a date with the hair down to the down the
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: back Crystal who I've seen her live at the rodeo
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: but anyway, so yeah, I would say Irvin Cowboy for sure.
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: I could watch that movie. And I loved Eva Winger Man.
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: She was so good. But she is who I wanted
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: to play my mother on One Mississippi, and she wanted
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: to play my mother and One Mississippi and wrote me
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: this unbelievable email, just desperately wanting this to work. And
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: then she got booked on another show right called The Ranch,
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: which I haven't Ashton Kutcher. It's like a sitcom on Netflix,
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: and then Amazon didn't you know, there was just a
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: lot of like we want somebody that Anyway, it didn't work.
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: But the actress that does play my mother on One
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: Mississippi is so phenomenal. She's great, and it's like one
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: of one of the things like once you see her,
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: like I can't imagine even deva Winger. And I know
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: I already said I didn't want to litter a show
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: with just famous faces, but that wasn't that wouldn't be
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: stunt casting. No, no, Oh, my gosh, Debora Winger nothing
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: better officer and a gentleman still share. I mean those
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: two Share reminds me of my mother. Deva Winger reminds
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: me of my mother. Yeah, my mother was a little
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: bit of a clammy. Well no, she was just she's
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: very beautiful, but she she's wild and a little irresponsible.
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: And so that character in Mass reminded me a bit
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: of my relationship at times with her mother, and I
- 1:04:37Speaker 1: think it's also why it kind of killed me a bit. Yeah,
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: I was before we get to question five, I was
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: going to ask you, was like, what was it about
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: Masks specifically? Um? For you? Yeah, it was the parent
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: child connection and I did feel like a lot of
- 1:04:54Speaker 1: times I was the mature together m HM one and
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: that I it was a lot of times parenting and
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: trying to get my mother to pull it together in
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: different ways, and you know, yeah, never happened, but well
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: that kind of came through on the TV show. I
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: kind of had a feeling that might have been part
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: of it. What do you mean part of your love
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: for Matt the connection to Mass? Yeah, yeah, yeah for sure. Yeah.
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: Share shares portrayal very much reminds me of my mother.
- 1:05:27Speaker 1: But I also really connected to Deva Winger um as
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: my mother because of that, like just passionate, like I'll
- 1:05:37Speaker 1: rip your face off. I love my kids. Deva wing
- 1:05:40Speaker 1: Or share kind of love for their kids. Yeah, for sure,
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: I saw big mistake. I saw terms of endearment believe
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: it or not, for the first time last year on
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: a plane and I had to like put on my
- 1:05:53Speaker 1: sunglasses and like in my seat. And I told my
- 1:05:58Speaker 1: wife after She's like, why the fund did you watch
- 1:05:59Speaker 1: that the plane? Yeah, so you know what that movie is.
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: I was like, I thought I could handle it, but yeah,
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: I could not handle it. Have you seen that? I
- 1:06:06Speaker 1: don't know why it took me so long to see
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: that movie because I loved every wing Orson and Gentleman
- 1:06:10Speaker 1: is one of my favorite movies of all time. And
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: just speaking of wrecking me, yeah, the whole movie wrecked me.
- 1:06:17Speaker 1: Uh And finally, um, what is your do you have
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: like a movie ritual? Like do you kind of sit
- 1:06:23Speaker 1: in the same place or get the same thing at
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: the concession stand? Or oh boy, I have always been
- 1:06:30Speaker 1: somebody that gets popcorn. Well, I love barks root beer barks.
- 1:06:36Speaker 1: You know it's it's from Mississippi. Um, I would always
- 1:06:40Speaker 1: get barks no ice and always feel like, don't don't
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: you even put ice in there because it comes out
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: cold anyway. So just fill up the large one with
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: barks no ice. Yeah, you get so much? Yeah and
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: uh And I don't typically eat like that, but when
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: I would go to the movies and it's like, fill
- 1:06:56Speaker 1: me up big old barks and extra large, big gulp
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: of popcorn and then throw some milk duds into the popcorn.
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: And but now I'm vegan. So Stephanie just reminded me
- 1:07:13Speaker 1: the other day. She's like, our milk days are gone.
- 1:07:18Speaker 1: Inde sit in sort of the same area, or do
- 1:07:20Speaker 1: you care? You know? Um, this girl I dated several
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: years ago, she told me the trick at this one
- 1:07:27Speaker 1: theater in Los Angeles, which, um, well, I don't want
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: to tell you because I don't want in case you're
- 1:07:33Speaker 1: in town, if you're going to see a movie when
- 1:07:35Speaker 1: I'm going to see that all full to bump into me.
- 1:07:38Speaker 1: Now it's I don't want you to steal my good seats.
- 1:07:41Speaker 1: It's at the grove and if you sit with you
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: sit behind where there's um bars. I think it might
- 1:07:52Speaker 1: be a handicap seating is in front, so there's no
- 1:07:57Speaker 1: chairs there. So if there's nobody in a wheelchair sitting
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: there and you sit behind those bars, you can just
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: put your feet on those bars. Yeah. I guess you
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: could be a total jerk and put your feet up
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: there if there's a wheelchair there, but I would highly
- 1:08:11Speaker 1: suggest being a considerate human not doing that. Put your
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: feet down, you slob. But anyway, Wow, so that's your
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: that's your secret tip grove. But I also always have
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: had a fantasy of going to a movie walking to
- 1:08:29Speaker 1: the front the very front rope, you know, Ryder left
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: corner by myself, just in an empty theater that was there.
- 1:08:39Speaker 1: That's John Ronson's move. He sits in the front left seat.
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: I'll see him there. I'll sit on his lap. So
- 1:08:47Speaker 1: strange kind of like to see that. I know we
- 1:08:50Speaker 1: have to wrap up. I will say, this is what
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: my fantasy of I've always wanted to do is go
- 1:08:56Speaker 1: into the grove. Yeah, and just start making announcements to
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: the theater and not work there obviously, and just see
- 1:09:07Speaker 1: how that goes for me. Yeah, see what takes. Yeah,
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: And because the person you know that does work there
- 1:09:12Speaker 1: is going to come in and and need to do
- 1:09:15Speaker 1: the announcements and ask me would you just freewheel it
- 1:09:18Speaker 1: or yeah, just like make sure you get your ticket validated,
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: and you know, no talking, turn off your cell phones,
- 1:09:28Speaker 1: really tell people the rules, you know, please no talk.
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: You know, just bathrooms are over here, and if you
- 1:09:35Speaker 1: have to get up and get it. And then the
- 1:09:36Speaker 1: person the job that is comes in and sees me
- 1:09:39Speaker 1: doing it one day, one day, I'll do it, all right, thanks,
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: thanks for having me. Appreciate you coming in. All right.
- 1:09:56Speaker 1: So how about that Jack Nataro and mask uh mirror
- 1:10:01Speaker 1: seconds after getting the news that she was gonna live
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: very very intense, cool conversation. She is the best. The
- 1:10:10Speaker 1: fact that she soldiered on through this and uh we
- 1:10:14Speaker 1: I feel like we really shared a moment. And I
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: think she even admitted it on the show that she's
- 1:10:19Speaker 1: going to remember this one for a while. So I
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: feel lucky to have to have been with her when
- 1:10:25Speaker 1: she found that news out. Very grateful that this all
- 1:10:28Speaker 1: worked out this way and uh, not a bad way
- 1:10:31Speaker 1: to get the second show off the ground. So I
- 1:10:34Speaker 1: hope you enjoyed it and we will see you next
- 1:10:37Speaker 1: time on movie Crush and until then, Uh, would you
- 1:10:41Speaker 1: mind putting your phone away? Movie Crushes, produced, edited, engineered,
