On the morning of the 14th of February 2004, Valentine's Day, a seventeen year old Aboriginal kid named Thomas Hickey, everyone called him TJ, came off his bike on Phillip Street in Waterloo, inner Sydney, and was impaled on a metal fence. A police vehicle was nearby. He was taken to hospital. He died early the next morning. He was seventeen years old. What happened between TJ riding his bike and ending up on that fence has never been fully resolved.
